KHAO KANG THAI KITCHEN
Khao-Kang has stood the test of time as the most popular meal in Thailand for a reason.
KHOAKANG THAI KITCHEN serves the best authentic Thai street food dishes based on traditional family recipes.
Khao-kang (Rice-Curry ) has been the most popular meal in Thailand for decades. Besides being delicious it’s fast, affordable, and highly nutritious. It’s typical to pick 2 or 3 entrees with rice.
This is the kind of restaurant that keeps you coming back! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with soft traditional music playing in the background and an elegant yet relaxed setting. The service was impeccable—our server was so kind and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The food was simply outstanding! The Tom Yum Soup were packed with bold flavors and the perfect amount of spice. The Thai iced tea was rich and creamy, balancing the heat of the meal beautifully. Every dish tasted fresh and homemade. If you’re looking for incredible Thai cuisine, this is the spot!
I like this restaurant. Food is great. Price is not expensive compared to other restaurants in Bay Area. The only thing I do not like is their tip is calculated based on after-tax amount. I will still come in the future though. I also ordered Tom yum, great portion and taste! Three dishes for two is slightly too much but I was hoping to try different food.
The restaurant does have unique Thai street food options. I did not try them due to dietary restrictions. One of their signature dishes I did try is the fish curry cooked in wrapped banana leaf. It was good but not excellent. I have tried this dish in Thailand. My comparison maybe a bit unfair. It is a much milder version of what I have eaten. I feel they could have added more curry paste and spiced it up a bit more. The restaurant staff are very kind. It is a good place to bring family and friends. There is parking around. I had the Thai papaya salad. It was standard papaya salad. I have had much better in other restaurants in bay areas. They use French beans I would recommend them to use Chinese long beans. They use large tomatoes I would recommend using small cut cherry tomatoes that will look nicer and easier to eat. Also have options to put dried shrimp. Also out a tiny bit of tamarind water. Papaya salad has to be sour spicy salty and sweet at the same time. The Thai fish cakes was also good but not great. Again more on the bland side. Kafir lime leaf and red curry paste flavor should stand out. It was very mild. The quality of ingredients is very good. The execution of dishes can be more authentic. I would rate this place more like 3.75 for the food but due to it's staff and good ambience for family get together will round it up to 4. I will come back to try the chef's seafood specials in a few weeks.
The restaurant offers an exciting selection of Thai street food, which we found to be enjoyable in terms of ingredients, flavors, and service. I couldn't confirm the authenticity of all the dishes, because I felt there were too many options compared with other Thai restaurants I had been. Also note that the prices were on the higher side, which may be a drawback for some.
Food has flavor, customer service is excellent!
Positives:
- Outside seating
- delicious spring rolls
- Thai soup
Food can get really spicy though, we requested medium spicy but the food was too spicy for us. So maybe, the kitchen does not adhere to conventional understanding of medium spice levels.
I went here for lunch and was a little surprise. The Thai ice tea was not list on the menu and turns out to be over $6 for it. With tax and tips, it was over $30 a person. I guess inflation.
The lunch was only ok nothing wow. The portion on the small size for that price. It wasn’t too busy but had hard time flagging down the stuff for chopsticks and box
It was hard to find parking in the small strip mall too.
Food is good however service is super slow and food takes forever.

food is OK, though a bit salty. The waiting time is too long. 30mins for one dish…
AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!
Waited for 30min to be seated. Then another 25min for minced pork rice. Only two staff on a busy Friday night. You won’t be getting any service at all.
The service is really bad the food is decent. I would not recommend this place.
The restaurant is clean and the decor is nice. The food tasted okay. The pad see ew was fine. The kow prik kang was too salty. The quantity is acceptable. The price was about $3 to $5 more than it should be based on quantity and quality. Compared to the other Thai restaurants in the South Bay Area it’s not bad but also not amazing.
We really like the curry rice and curry noodles we had here. Taste very authentic for us, highly recommended for those who can have spicy meals
南灣最好喝冬陰功湯
The service is horrible, takeout takes a long time. Drivers wait more than half an hour for a meal. I don't recommend it

long wait for order time, inflated prices and unpolite staff
Good place to eat after work
Recommend mango sticky rice and pad kee mao
Not recommend pad thai
went here for dinner and the food was just alright! comes at around 17-21 dollars per plate but protion sizes are generous. i had the spicy basil fried rice and would give it a 5/10
Pad Thai which should be a standard for all Thai restaurants was not good here. Food is basically bland.
Super delicious, quick, friendly. The spring rolls and yellow curry were delicious
Waited for > 40min for one of the worst fried noodles I’ve ever had.
Just got out of this restaurant super dissatisfied, and without food. Felt discriminated and upset as we don’t experience this at any place we go to. They sat us down when the restaurant was empty with literally only 4 military personnel’s already finishing up their food. We placed our order (simple- 1 coke, 1 Thai iced tea, 1 basil chicken with rice and 1 fried rice). Had hungry kids and limited time as we were making a lunch stop due to soccer tournament in the area. The server gets us the drinks, and other customers started filling up the place, however nothing too crazy for lunch time, 10-15 mins go by and we are watching others get served their appetizers and drinks and we are still cool…we sit there and waited for 45 mins and folks that came behind us got their food, almost finishing up. I finally lose patience and nudge the server who says “he is still working on it”. She goes inside without checking as she is still in my view, instead serves some other incoming customers and takeaways. Finally I went in to tell her we need to leave and let me pay for the coke and iced tea. She tells me sorry with her body language telling another story and needs to recall the order another 5 mins process. Comes to the table unapologetically arguing now with us at the table. Didn’t even bother to say sorry or have any courtesy to compensate for the mishap. Horrible experience.
Very slow food prep for takeout experience. From order placement to food ready is one and a half hours. No clear communications made as to why the order is taking so long to prepare, initially quoted order will be ready in 20 minutes.
If you like Thai food, you will love this place.
I’m very disappointed with my recent visit to this restaurant, which I used to frequent almost weekly. The experience this time was far from satisfactory. Despite reducing our party size from four to three, we were told we had to wait for the entire group to be present before being seated. The staff explained this was due to concerns about extended dining time if the fourth person joined late, but when asked for specifics on the time limit, they only referred to it as policy.
Additionally, we found an insect in the soup, which we promptly canceled. However, it still appeared on our bill. The restaurant also does not accept cash, and while paying by card, we encountered issues and were told it was due to us pressing the wrong button, although we only selected the tip option.
Not sure if they change the staffs and managers. The decline in service and overall experience has made me reconsider my future visits. It’s unfortunate, but I won’t be coming back.
Always come here when we’re in the mood for Thai! Really cozy atmosphere, and the food is always great. Prices are what you would expect.
One of the best Thai restaurants. All staff are super helpful and welcoming. The food is so good. Quality. Got to try the Mango Coconut Rice among other great options. Price is reasonable.
Good food, bad server. Won’t explicitly tell customers that their sticky rice is $4 when ordered with a curry. Feels really scammy.
Good food but expensive. About $20-30 per person
Best Pad Thai in the area. I had it with the peanut sauce. Great serving size. Enough for two meals. Service was very good.
Green curry is above average, thick and flavorful. But pad Thai is way below expectation, too wet and light and without any of the strength/smell from the wok.
Also, waited TOO LONG for the Pad Thai, almost finished my green curry then it’s finally served. Asked the server for more than three times!!
Love this place
Good& tasty food
Ordered online for take out. Parking is limited but there were plenty of 15 minute only spots out front. Order was completed ahead of the estimate.
I ordered a curry and discovered they do not serve rice with it, you have to order your rice separately. I had to order it there and wait a few minutes. The side order of rice is expensive for how much you get, just a small takeout box. Given the prices for the rest of the meal I wasn't impressed.
Sad to say this was terrible. Looked promising, there were a lot of customers. The pad Thai noodles were over cooked and mushy, it was 50% bean sprouts. The curry didn’t not have the ingredients it claimed, and why were the carrots two inches thick? Also had 3 entire halves of potatoes. Also $19 and no rice???? We had to pay extra for rice. The crab rangoons were burnt. The Thai tea was terrible, taste like some awful mix. The flavor of the yellow curry was actually good. Insanely over priced for what it is.
Their curry is good, but I was surprised to find that the curry doesn't come with rice. You have to order it on the side. I've not yet seen a Thai restaurant that doesn't include a side of rice with their curry meal. Very disappointing (especially for the price)
The food is super delicious! Especially the samosa and mango sticky rice 👌🏽 the service staff was very kind and friendly but there weren't enough people for the crowd that was there so it was difficult to get help. But the 2 people there definitely did their best and were lovely.
Wok hei
Try somtam! It’s better than the other places.
there is no way to choose the size of the tip, the food takes a very long time to arrive, although it is tasty, the staff is not attentive enough
The Thai food here is so delicious. And it’s properly spicy if you ask for spicy 😋
The worst Thai food I have ever partially eaten. The smell should have been a strong clue but I am too trusting and regretfully went beyond to taste it. Truly disturbing.
Delicious and fresh flavors awesome staff will be back mwahahaha!
Most dishes we ordered were pretty good. I was bummed that they didn’t have duck dishes but there other dishes were good
The food was really great the restaurant was extremely busy, the staff although friendly enough was rushed in all interactions and the focus here is to move people out as soon as they're done.
Great Thai food. My wife and I just moved back into the area and have been trying to find a decent Thai place. We both love Thai food!
This place was wonderful. Fresh noodles for the pad kee mao and the curry was light and flavorful. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. The prices are reasonable as well. This will be a regular spot for us and we can’t wait to branch out and try the street food options. Great menu and unique selection. Loved it!
This place has excellent food. I asked for spicy 🔥 and they gave me spicy. I got the yellow curry and it was so delicious 😋. I also asked for extra broccoli and they gave me extra broccoli. I highly suggest you try this place. Fresh vegetables and amazing taste.
I don't why they get this high rating. Over priced food and they added a ton of MSG in any dishes I have tried.
Absolutely delicious yellow curry! Got mine "spicy" and it was just right for someone who enjoys really spicy food. The portion size was nice and large too.
Proper Thai spicy - would definitely recommend! (Most of our party got their food very quickly, but one didn't get their dish until everyone else was done eating.)
It's a very nice traditional Thai food place and worth a try. They offer 4 different spicy level to accommodate all kinds of spicy need.
I am taking "to go" from this place on average once a month for the last 4 years. It used to be a very good sushi. They started putting less and less fish and more rice. I took several rolls today and was very disappointed. Fish pieces on top of the rolls were 2 millimeters thick. You are basically paying for rice and fake crab meat. I will never order from this restaurant again.
It’s ok, but not that impressive.
Fresh ingredients, very tasty.
Excellent Thai food. They are serious about their spice.
The service is also nice.
Most interesting Thai food I've had in a long while, not all the same dishes you see elsewhere. Very good, great flavor. Closest to being in Thailand food-wise and vibe-wise that I've found since going there. Very fast service, the food comes almost immediately. Outdoor and indoor seating. Plenty of parking. Tasty Veg options.
Got satay and nam tok. Both were dry, very dry. Flavour was also mediocre
Poor quality and lukewarm satay and shrimp …my relative had the pad Thai and is currently feeling unwell…$85 lunch …
recommended by a Thai friend. very typical thai friend
For me this is definitely an OVERHYPED Thai restaurant in the bay area.
I am a fan of spicy Thai basil pork over rice so I ordered Kow Krapow Kai Dow which is also on the top of the menu. But it was an disappointment. The pork was not spicy or flavorful and the fried egg was not runny at all.
Also got the Mango sticky rice and this one was just ok. The portion is a bit small though.
Suggestions to the restaurant - if you can't handle orders by customer names, might as well just switch it back to order numbers so you and your staff didn't have to ask for my name 5 times and still handled someone else's order, I had to read it to correct your mistake. It's a take out order, can't tell you much about service but I sure can tell they're not being very efficient. Food itself is mediocre at best
Beef is so hard to chew
The restaurant offers an exciting selection of Thai street food, which we found to be enjoyable in terms of ingredients, flavors, and service. I couldn't confirm the authenticity of all the dishes, because I felt there were too many options compared with other Thai restaurants I had been. Also note that the prices were on the higher side, which may be a drawback for some.
The restaurant's policy on tardiness is rigid and unforgiving. In my personal experience, the establishment did not accommodate a late friend that arrived after my other friend and I had already been seated. The result was that my late friend had to sit at a different table, which was not only inconvenient for us but also left him feeling isolated. The lack of flexibility and understanding from the staff created a negative experience for all those involved.
In an industry where customer satisfaction is paramount, this kind of policy can lead to a loss of patrons and negative reviews. It is important for establishments to find a balance between adhering to their policies and accommodating their guests to ensure a positive dining experience.
Amazing flavors and spice.
The chicken Larb was awesome with level 2 heat
Attention: this review is purely based on papaya salad ONLY. It is too sweet. It has too much sugar.
I visited Thailand a few times. The papaya salads I had were never sweet like this.
I hope they will reduce the amount of sugar they put in. I will try this place in a month or so and update my review accordingly.
Food was decent. Spice levels hold true to its name.
The Mango sticky rice dessert was the best.
Big portions, nice sit-down restaurant, good ambience. Would recommend!
Busy, simple place with delicious food. Vegetable biryani is to die for!
We got red curry and pad Thai and both were completely tasteless. The chicken inside both smelled and I had the worst stomachache the whole night and even the next morning. Not worth the calories and money!
Had a wait for about 20 mins on a rainy Thursday eve. Vibrant place with amazing food! But it was SPICY. We ordered medium spicy but couldn’t eat cause we sorta burnt our tongues
猪脚饭!
Very bad service and refused to give us menu rudely when we add the people in the middle.
Ridiculous service! Rude server!
I have two theories, one of them must be true. 1. They are an embarrassment of Thai cuisine. 2. They are not an embarrassment, Thai cuisine is simply bad. The rice is saggy, I can only taste salty and spicy in their curry, no herb whatsoever, the char siu pork is dry and tasteless. I can make all those far better at home, so either they are doing it wrong, or Thai cuisine is doing it wrong.
Great location, ample of parking spots. The food was good, and the portion size was huge. Not sure if we ordered family size, but nobody could finish their main course. Could be easily shared between two.
Service was ok.
Will go here again.
Fantastic food! Really good pat thai and sticky rice!
Ordered :
Lad Na : 4/5
Chicken + mixed vegetable : 2/5
Pad see ew : 4/5
Pad kee mow : 4/5
Spicy basil fried rice : 4/5
Order again : 2/5 Place has started to go downhill, has been removed from our favorite thai place to giving it a couple more tries before placing it on our "Don't Revisit" or "Occasional Visit" list.
You must be wondering if the dishes have been rated as 4/5 why is the overall rating 2/5. The food here used to be very good, Lad na was my favorite dish here and the gluten free + vegan versions of Pad see ew, Pad kee mow & Spicy basil fried rice were very flavorful and tasty. Infact they were the only thing palatable in the gluten free + vegan section among all the Thai places nearby.
However this place has either had a management and/or a chef change recently, as the food quality has gone down drastically. Food that was flavorful and tasty has now become bland, sauces that were mixed well with the food and gave it its flavor have been watered down and now can be found at the bottom of the plate, leave the food as if it has just been boiled.
Furthermore they have raised the prices two times now, dishes have gone from $14 to $18. Overall just bad and expensive food. Time to find a new thai place for us.
This place is an absolute hidden gem. Food is incredibly flavorful and fresh. Perfectly seasoned every time. From the curries to the noodles, every item that we've ordered has been perfectly prepared.
The servers are very polite and cheerful as well.
Beware the level of spice. If not too adventurous, I recommend sticking to medium.
Portions are also huge, so sharing family style is an option as well.
The quality of the beef they use is not good.
Great Thai restaurant, I love it when I try something new and it turns out to be good 😊
Descent food but seems way overpriced for the quality and the service. The restaurant is very casual. I could pay the same price at Dusita in Santa Clara for the better food for sure and the restaurant quality service. Their “Thai street food experience” would come with almost $20 price tag for appetizers. Their popular fish cake dish is just pre-made fish cakes you can get from any Asian grocery store. :/ very disappointing. Their curry was descent but a little watered down. Pad Thai was okay but again $20? Overpriced for the quality. I feel like this new restaurant needs a new strategy. Wouldn’t go back.
The service was extremely slow and the food was a bit underwhelming. While the portions are rather large, it still felt the prices were steep for what it was.
Absolutely loved all the dishes we order. From my impressions, Thai restaurants are usually quite similar, but this place gives a new Thai experience.
I gave the best to the durian sticky rice. If you are dessert fan, it will not go wrong for you.
Kow ka pow is the rice with the minced pork. It is a little spicy and so tasty when stirred with rice!
The Hor mok pla the curry fish is well advertised by by all other customers, i can not emphasize more ~
Tom Yum soup is so so to me.
Love the traditional flavors of Thai food here. Tried their vegetarian pineapple curry - which was delicious. The curry was full of flavor 5/5
The yellow curry 4/5 - not a big fan of potatoes but love the consistency and creaminess of the curry.
Tom Kha soup - 5/5 - my favorite ❤️ perfect level of sourness and coconut flavor. I wish the soup had more variety of mushrooms - we mainly had baby Bella in ours but nonetheless it was delicious 😋
Pad kee mow- 3.5/5 they were short on the flat big noodles so we had to substitute them for a thinner noodle type. The noodles were December but were missing the drunken noodle texture and flavor
This a hidden gem, it’s not a fancy restaurant but the food is a bomb. It’s a true authentic Thai with correct spice level. Medium heat level is adequate for soup. We tried Tomyum it was awesome and papaya salad was so fresh. Garlic sauté was very tasty.
Food is not so pricy and portions are adequate.
Never had my coke and still put on the receipt, never have my water filled up. Literally no service !
Terrible service attitude, come if you like being kicked out after you have been seated. Been here a few times. The food is fine. I came today There was a waitlist. We were standing there and some girl seated us inside. After a couple minutes she came up to us and asked us to leave because she made a mistake, that the group before us on the list had just arrived and they wanted to sit inside. So in such cold weather we were thrown out to sit in the wind after already being seated and ready to order.
True, at first i said I'm ok with outside seating, though I prefer indoor because it's cold outside. But seriously, kick us out after being seated? And not saying sorry in the first place?
Thank you girls for saying 'i can't be rude to them' So it's fine to be rude to us or was it because we look asian? Thank you for saying 'i already said sorry what do you want', like a 'sorry' with that attitude should be accepted and we're obligated to understand your rudeness.
Small place, with good food - nice value
Papaya Salad good yum
Great Thai food! Some of the best you can find on the peninsula
Really good food! I loved the fried calamari. Entrees (curries, etc.) don't come with rice; rice has to be bought separately which is annoying because the entrees are already expensive.
Been trying to find Nam Tok but most places only has larb and i finally find it here
Went there twice. Both the thai fry rice and pineapple fry rice taste good. For all the dishes, their flavor are really good. But the problem is the meat is not that good. Chicken breast meat is really dry. Crispy pork skin is really hard to chew like belt. Maybe go with vegetables can solve the problem. It is a okay choice but I won’t crave it.
Not recommend.
Beef Noodles gross.
Waiter brought no napskin and seasoning
until asked.
Perfect casual Thai food place with on point flavors and spicy levels that don't hold back.
Always have to appreciate the Thai restaurants where spicy actually means spicy even after they give you a "warning" about spice levels.
Go mild for a pleasant taste or medium and higher if you're already familiar with Thai spice. You won't be disappointed.
Other than that, the food was on point and had your Thai spicy savory salty sour and sweet multidimensional flavor profiles. Would come back again.
Lots of options to choose from and they have Thai street food menu as well. If you are a vegetarian, they have good options for you too!
We ordered a Thai Basil chicken fried rice and a veggie pad kee mow with a spring rolls. Everything tasted good.
The service could definitely see some improvement.
Hor mok is superb tasty. Tom kha soup was also good.
The restaurant does have unique Thai street food options. I did not try them due to dietary restrictions. One of their signature dishes I did try is the fish curry cooked in wrapped banana leaf. I will come back to try the chef's seafood specials in a few weeks.
Extremely tasty and affordable Thai food with great service to boot, would highly recommend!
Food is just Okay, and they require you to go in for Curbside pick up🙃
Not generally a fan of curry, but the yellow curry here was phenomenal. We also had the spicy eggplant with prawns which was wonderful. The price was reasonable too.
Food is excellent but service is just horrible. Or maybe take out doesn’t deserve any service. It’s funny the waitress kept saying “I’ll be right back with you” and keep ignoring you. check the shelf by yourself actively, their email system is hit or miss.
