A large menu of Thai specialties, from BBQ chicken to mint shrimp, highlights this unassuming spot.
I’ve been coming to Thai Original Barbecue for years, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently excellent, with a great selection of authentic dishes. The flavors are always spot-on, and the service is friendly and efficient. Highly recommended for anyone looking for delicious Thai cuisine!
We came on a Wednesday afternoon and it was empty and we took advantage of the lunch special to get the bbq chicken and beef sage, both coming with fried rice. The service was good, our server was polite and offered everything we needed. We even got little salads, which I don’t think came with the lunch deal. Very simple, but it’s the thought that counts. The interior is not the most modern, but it’s not run-down or dirty, just a bit old. They even have the fish tank, a sign of authenticity.
The sate was very good. Outside was charred with a bit of crisp while the inside was juicy and it was all flavorful. The accompanying fried rice had ketchup mixed in, which is why it’s red? I like ketchup rice 🙊, but it was just unexpected.
I grew up in Hollywood and I’ve been eating that food for over 35 years but I’ve never found a spot where they actually makes the authentic Thai food. I have eaten and many other thai food places. but nothing compares to this one. I know a couple of bigger ones one in Normandie, the other one on Sunset but there’s so many of them out of all those in Hollywood this one is the best !
I remember going there as a teenager with my uncle getting the same plate plus the seven seas seafood soup, which is delicious so now I live in San Gabriel Valley and there is this other place on Covina I’m pretty sure they brought the same cooks from the previous place because it is the exact same flavor so I ask and they actually are the same owners or where are the same owners, but the recipes remain the same I wanted to share this because I was in Hollywood which I haven’t been for a couple years and I remember I need to eat something special and great so my cravings took me down there Western and Maplewood across the street from 7-Eleven so there this is the real flavor and I’m proud to say that they earned this review I only review the best and the worst Mr. machine
We ate lunch here today and I got to say that the food is still delicious as before. Me and my late father used to take out food here when I was young. Eating here was like a trip down the memory lane during my childhood years. Will definitely eat here again when I visit L.A. again.
Old lady server was extremely rude and condescending.

I pick up to go the Thai Bbq dish and it was very over cooked, and stale, it had been cook a few days before kept on a warmer, so the meet was dry like beef jerky. And the place was really dirty with food sitting on the floor next to the bathroom. Very bad, and disgusting. I would NOT come back or recommend.
the waiters here are so nice and funny! the food is also super good. the panang curry is so good which is what i got, don’t get it if you hate spicy food it was pretty spicy but i love spicy food so that’s why i got it. thai tea is also super good! i recommend this place

Great place to eat. Mainly get takeout for lunch. Fried rice and Beef Phad See-Ew is definitely my go too.
This place is a huge disappointment. We used to come here yearsago and the food was great but now it is not. This is the last time I will come. The restaurant itself has gone down its extremely dirty. The food quality is the worst. I got served raw chicken. I hope I don't get sick from this. The place is not clean. Will nevercome again.
It saddens me to be writing this review for a restaurant that I've been coming to for the past 27 years. So much has changed, so much in the past year. I came to eat here for the first time when I was about 8 years old. I remember being a teenager on Summer vacation and gathering up about 750 pennies from my moms giant penny filled jar, just to eat their delicious chicken (God bless Sam, the man who would allow me to pay in pennies because i would not want to eat leftovers from the night before lol). But after 26 great years, their streak has come to an end. The staff that use to run the restaurant and cook the food, have all gone their separate ways. The atmosphere doesn't seem to be on point as it use to be. The food just doesn't taste as good as it did before, it's just okay (Especially the fried rice). I will probably be dining from the original Thai BBQ in Glendale from now on as their food still has some resemblance to the food I still hold dear in my memory. Thank you for all the years of service and I will never forget the good times I've had in here throughout my life. I wish this chain the best of luck on their future endeavors.
Just a big disappointment, order via doordash was expecting more than 2 shrimp in my fried rice, no flavor at all. Chicken satay was dry asl. Never again. Best part of the meal. Thai tea!
Siempre esta la comida deliciosa
We celebrated Mexican Mother's Day and the fact that I became a GRANDMA, MY MOM A GREATGRANDA AND MY GRANDMA A GREAT GREAT GRANDMA..... SOON WE WILL TAKE THE 5 GENERATION PICS!!!!
Literally had a cockroach in the counter. Also the waiter never checked on us once
Great place to celebrate a family event. The food delicious. Is not just me saying. You must visit. The only downside is the parking. However, plenty of street parking if you enjoy to walk.
Family favorite
Good food, big portions and good prices specially now how everything is so expensive
The chicken was not bbq at all it looked like old chicken that was just sitting there & fried rice had no flavor. And wonton soup had no flavor either. I’ve had the bbq chicken at other locations & they taste good, this place just doesn’t make it right.
Also when eating into the chicken the bones & meat were all still red.. I don’t think that’s supposed to be normal. I have a tummy ache
they give unlimited refills and the women js so nice
Nice atmosphere inside, great service, the place has some class. Not expensive. I loved: the Ginger beef (I chose mild spice level), the Mint beef (beef stir fried with medium hot peppers and mint: very tasty; medium hot because I told them I didn’t want it too hot); the bbq pork spare ribs with fried rice; the garlic short ribs (pork short ribs); and on the first time buying the grilled rainbow trout with shrimp fried rice, I loved it even though it was not enough fish to satisfy the fish craving. The second time I bought the rainbow trout with shrimp fried rice though, there were several big problems (and keep in mind these problems were the same in both orders of the rainbow trout dinner that I ordered on this occasion): the meat of the fish was not tender at all, too tough; in the red wine sauce there was no longer any taste of wine, but the first time I ordered the rainbow trout a few weeks earlier, the red wine sauce was fresh and excellent and I could taste the wine a lot; another problem the second time I ordered the rainbow trout dinner was that the fried rice was old and the flavor was poor, very different from how their fried rice was the other times I ate here/from here: those times, their fried rice was very excellent; lastly, the second time I ordered the rainbow trout dinner (and this second order was comprised of two orders), the shrimp were not big, but instead quite smaller, and one out of 4 of the shrimp had a bad taste (4 shrimp counting 2 in each order from this second time buying the rainbow trout dinner). Now for the Honey Duck and the Crispy Duck I ordered two different times: I liked but didn’t love the roast Honey Duck that I tried two times (one of those times was a take-out order), and the Crispy Duck I tried another time was way too crispy: I’m not just talking about the skin of the duck, I mean that All the meat of the duck was so crisped it wasn't like eating meat, but like eating "burned" crisp without the meat; there was very little on it that had meat texture rather than super crisp texture.—Seems like Crispy duck is supposed to be that crispy, but I've had some crispy duck from elsewhere that wasn't so crispy and was more enjoyable. With many plates or with all, you can order their fried rice/shrimp fried rice along with whatever you order, like I did with the bbq pork spare ribs, the rainbow trout and the crispy duck. Their fried rice/shrimp fried rice is the best that I’ve had at any Thai restaurant because it barely seems like the usual fried rice: it's actually better and healthier because it isn't like the usual fried rice, it’s not greasy/oily like the usual fried rice: it’s more like some steamed rice with tomato bullion added like I used to eat as a kid at home. I like lightly tomato-flavored/colored rice. It's not like any fried rice I've had at a Thai place before...because it barely seems like fried rice. The shrimp were good and big enough (there are only two shrimps placed) all of the times that I ordered shrimp fried rice, except for one time that I mentioned above. When I ordered the crispy duck with shrimp fried rice, there were only miniscule bits of egg (but I didn't want more egg that day,so that wasn't a problem), but when I got shrimp fried rice with the rainbow trout, there was a lot of egg. So for the duck, I recommend the roast Honey Duck for sure, not the crispy duck. Their Thai Iced Tea tastes great, but it had a dulling sleepy effect, so take note of that. It was like the opposite of coffee. I'll have to read about Thai tea more before I order it again, though I've had similar elsewhere awhile ago. I like this place, even though they gave me a not-good order of rainbow trout with a hard fish and old shrimp fried rice in two orders that I bought one Saturday April 3rd 2021 about an hour after noon, when you’d think that would be fresh on a weekend order, but everything in that double order was well past its prime.
Bomb
MY FAVORITE SPOT BEEN GOING THERE FOR 6 YEARS NOW 😋
Bueno
Been coming here since 1992, always great service and good food. Seafood soup, pineapple fried rice, bbq spare ribs, nommmz
Yummi food and good place to eat and enjoy. Highly recommend.
food doesn't seem that high quality. Once the Meal came in melted Styrofoam containers which is a huge no no. Best thing i've had was the fried wonton appetizer but specify not to put it in styrofoam.
I usually get the S-2 rib dinner. I got the 1/2 chicken dinner. Delicious
The owner always takes care of my large orders, even last minute orders, and people love the food.
Terrible Terrible Terrible, where is the health department. Just because its covid going on and everything is closed doesn't mean I should settle for Terrible food. I don't understand why they are still in business. However the fried chicken wonton were amazing but I felt sick to my stomach after I ate them. Please send Gordon Ramsey, stat. Sounds funny but no lie
Love this place very good food snd service
Fresh seafood
No where near as good as original thai BBQ on 3rd street beef broccoli very hard & dry beef, beef satay hard & over cooked, on 3rd beef melts in your mouth. Garlic short ribs over cooked and dried out. Shrimp fried rice very disappointed sent back half of the food .I won't be returning to this location ever again. 3rd & Ardmore is the place to go!!!
Good food used to be a regular customer but it's not the same as before
La mejor sopa
Delicious food
OMG....the food here is so good....I always get the S-9....which is grilled chicken with orange fried rice.....they have this peanut sauce that is unlike anything I've ever tasted...and a wonderful fresh cucumber salad....u gotta try this if u like Asian food....and their Thai tea will do u just right fr dessert....
Delicious food!
Two words: NEVER DISSAPOINTED!!!
Great customer service and great food.
Clean and family enjoyed
So delicious. Always.
Great food and service! A must try!
Great service, but the pad thai was so salty and I want to say "vinegar-y". The Glendale branch makes it 100 times better!
Good prices and good food!
I been going to this place for the pass 5 years. The food is great. The waiter is very friendly. The 4 star is because of the parking. Sometimes i have to park a block away. They only have valet parking. Other then that i would had gave them 5 stars.
Love this place
Awesome food!
I love Thai food and I can say the food is good. Parking is a problem sometimes.
Great food and service

My favorite Thai restaurant since 2000. Ken is the best server there.
Me gusta su comida ... ya llevo como 4 años comiendo su comida y siento q no me canso de ir ... sus meseros son amables..
Wonderful family restaurant serving delicious food
The prices are great as well clean good friendly service.
Que delicia ...
Good food, great prices.
This place is very near where I live, so when the menu--with coupons--showed up at my house, I was glad to try it. Thai food is very interesting to me but not always the first thing I go for, so I remember this being good--not great--and while the atmosphere is sort of cozy, the service was just okay.
The best Thai food restaurant in Hollywood And Los Angeles. I live the Thai tea, ribs, rice and shrimp. I recommend S2 on the menu 😍😁
Great place to eat .
I love their barbecue chicken.
Eating here since 1988! Great food..
Hi..yes.that.is.a.good..tasty.spacy.sea.soup..xlnt.bbq.n.super.drunken.noodles..is.ok
Beef Sate tastes like beef jerky. If you want good beef Sate, go to the 3rd Street location.
Wonton had no salt, chicken dry, thai coffee was strong, it was okay won't go back though. Prices are to high to have these many deficiencies.
Thai tea good, combo rice ok, ribs soft, coconut ice cream good
Good food..very busy..Order in advance..
Probably the best Thai food restaurant ever
Try the pork ribs!
First of all, people that gave this place 5 stars obviously have no idea about food. I have been to many great Thai restaurants and bad Thai restaurants - so far Thai Original BBQ on Western is the worst. I ordered bbq pork spare rib dinner w/ extra shrimp. Everything tasted like it all just came out of microwave - rice was dry and tasteless with sour flavor-definitely not fresh; ribs were disgusting, I ate one, the rest were too hard to even bite on - just a total disappointment and waste of $12. The extra shrimp consisted of 2 tiny and 1 small shrimp. Stay away.
Best food. Love that it's one of those hole in the wall place.
Excelente sopa 7 mares muy sabrosa y bien atendido
I never dine in I always order delivery food always comes on time and food is always good
I would have given this place five stars unfortunately until recently the food here has been incredible but the last two times I've ordered the barbecued spare ribs they haven't been nearly as good I don't know who's managing this place but it's starting to slip and hope they get it together cuz the food used to be really good
Great food! Do not have one thing to complain about!
I always order from this place, well not always as in every week but when I'm craving thai, especially their rib plate (which can feed 2/3 people, it's 3 ribs on a plate of shrimp fried rice, and side dishes vary on my mood. Overall the food is always delicious and hot. I was just bummed that yesterday the order took over 2 hours to receive. The same instructions are always requested , but I guess the delivery driver did not read the order print out because he couldn't figure out how to get in my building the first time and the second after I called about my late order he called back asking me how to get in the building and the apartment number. When I saw the order print out all that info was printed boldly. Anyways they sent me a fresh hot plate and everything was correct so I can't be mad. Delicious food.
DELICIOUS FOOD
Great food fast service...i love the s-1 and cucumber salad minus the peppers...too hot for me!!! I also add crushed peanuts, yummy!
Riquísima la comida de está lugar y muy barata fantástico lugar y compartir con la familia
Everything tasted like fish, which is fine if you have some kind of seafood in the item ordered. However, most of what we ordered did not have any seafood. The orange chicken was terrible. It was almost completely fried breading only, and really hard like it had been fried a couple of times. We were all really disappointed because our family has been coming here for over a decade, although it has been some time in between, but the food used to be fantastic. I guess the new places that opened in the same shopping center really did affect business.
Muy bueno
Really good food seafood soup👌
Food was decent but 'F' for service. Rude af
Very good food.and good soups,
There are hundreds of Thai restaurants in LA, but this is the first of a chain of restaurants in LA that makes great Thai food!
Best food and drinks
Oh no no no no no! This particular location is not as good as the others. When we came the food was dry (both Pad Thai and their S1 special - chicken barbecue). Parking is pretty tough as well.
Amazing food, and service is very friendly.
Best Thai food! I've been coming here since I was a little girl!
