Terrible Pad see ew. No veggies...the chicken didn't look or taste like chicken.

Diner Review №2

Got the spicy bbq pork plate and it was some of the best takeout I’ve had in LA. The meat was tender with crispy edges, the shrimp fried rice was to die for and for $20 I got three portions out of it. Highly recommend.

The real deal when it comes to Thai food in the City of the Angels.

Flew down from Canada and my friend recommended my wife and I come here. Such a good recommendation! 10:10 recommend the pork combo player as well as tofu pad thai and any of the starters.

Diner Review №12

Excellent bbq, excellent pad see ew. My favorite thai place in LA

Diner Review №13

Delightful northern thai dishes and top notch service. Stand outs are jackfruit salad, nam prik num, khao soi, and bbq beef.

Diner Review №14

Some of the best tom yum and bbq pork I've ever had. Will definitely be back.

Diner Review №15

I picked up carry out from this little Thai restaurant and it was amazing 😍! My aunts love it here and buy food here often, I'll be joining them too! The Shrimp Pad Thai was amazing and so was the seafood Tom Yum soup 🍲😋!!! Also the gentleman that rang my order was super friendly and nice 👍🏻!

Diner Review №16

Best Tom Kha of my life

Diner Review №17

Enormous portions of food!! Fried rice was nice but pad thai was very average. The north thai dish had a really tasty broth but the noodles and beef wasn’t great. I would recommend having chicken instead. Worth a visit for sure.

Diner Review №18

Loved every aspect of it, great service, the grilled pork and jackfruit salad, just wow

Diner Review №19

This is a must have every time I am in L.A.! The Khao Soi soup here is amazing and the fried dumplings are the best I’ve ever had! It’s a quaint little restaurant that gives a family vibe every time I visit. My first visit years ago was made special by Mrs. Kay, I was sad to hear that she was no longer working here during my last visit. The food is still very good, I would recommend stopping by if you are ever in the area.

Diner Review №20

One of my FAVORITE Thai restaurants in LA that's serving up dank Northern Thai cuisine. Great portions, fair prices and a great range of flavors...never had a bad dish yet. Also, if you're ever in a chatting mood the story of how this place came to be is heartwarming so be sure to ask for an added humanity bonus.

Had the Mixed Salad and WOW 😳 I was surprised by the array of sweet, salt and spice and it was gone in seconds; twas so nice I'll order it twice. Get over there and enjoy!

Diner Review №21

I love this place. Worth driving across LA in traffic to eat at. Usually do family style when I come here and all of the dishes are excellent (especially if you like spicy). The bbq items chicken/pork/beef & khao soi are excellent. The staff here are really friendly too. Highly recommend!

Diner Review №27

Most people are looking for the next big thing when it comes to restaurants. Spoiler alert, this place isn't new! It's been under your radar for decades. Family run. 2 generations and counting. Just go. Simple dining area. Small, 6 tables. I could go on but you'll get bored. Have a great time! Try something you haven't tried before. You'll love it!

Diner Review №28

I love Northern Thai food, especially Khao Soi. Spicy BBQ’s Khao Soi has earned a special place in my heart. Every component makes it so extraordinary, especially how well the egg noodles are cooked and the broth (oooooooh, the broth). I’ve had problems where the chicken can be gamey, but not here!

I had my very first Kai Kua, and I enjoyed it! Noodles can be heavy, but this had me going back for thirds and fourths! Their Hung Lay is exceptionally robust in flavor, and the pork is tender. And of course, their spicy bbq? Its darn good, but I don’t even have to elaborate on that.

They don’t skimp on meat, noodles, or the size of their dishes. It’s truly a family style spot. We shared 4 dishes between 3 hangry people and left with leftovers enough for the three of us! The little details is what I also love- the rose-shaped wrapper in our straws, the roasted peanuts in the Hung Lay, the freshly shaved cabbage resting under the bbq pork, and the spicy vinegar side addition. They don’t come unnoticed to me.

All hits here. Staff is lovely, especially Natty. She’s established a great spot that’s deserving of its praises.

Best Thai food in Los Angeles!

Diner Review №30

Food and service here is terrific. So glad to be back to have it again!

Diner Review №31

Spicy Thai BBQ is my favorite Thai restaurant in the city, and probably my favorite place to eat anywhere for that matter. For my friends and I Spicy Thai is more of an institution than a restaurant. I've been coming here for almost a decade now. I've celebrated birthdays, reunions, and even my post wedding party at Spicy Thai. Truthfully, I must have eaten here over 100 times and I've never had a bad meal. THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE! I've tried almost every well known Thai restaurant in Los Angeles and keep coming back to Spicy Thai for consistently top notch and authentic Thai food, especially their Norther Thai regional menu. If you're a fan of Larb, Som Tam, Khao Soi, BBQ Pork and Beef, Gaeng Hung Lay, Gaeng Ho, etc. It's all here and it's all great. If I close my eyes while eating Spicy Thai I could swear that I'm back in Thailand. The food is incredibly authentic, and I strongly recommend ordering off of their Northern Thai regional menu. But really, everything is incredible and you can't go wrong. For my money you won't be able to find a better Thai meal anywhere in the region.

Diner Review №32

Don’t let the sketchy neighborhood scare you. Just walk in and enjoy the most authentic northern Thai food in LA. To be honest, it is hard to find northern Thai food even in Bangkok. So this place is heaven. Order all the strange food that is not in any typical Thai food. You will be amazed 😊

This small restaurant is very close to residential area, heart of LA. Food here was very flavorful. We order Tom Yum seafood soup, Pad see ew chicken, pad won Sen chicken, morning glory (ong choi), green curry with chicken, bbq pork and fried shrimp; that's a lot for 4 of us! But since this was our first time here, we wanted to try as many dishes. All very tasty. We'll be back!

Diner Review №43

Spicy and tasty, just how I like my Thai food. I did arrive for pick up and they were running late but I don’t blame them. Just wish ubereats had a better way of communicating that to us.

Diner Review №44

Diner Review №45

Diner Review №46

Food is amazing and super flavoursome. Really affordable with generous portions. Some of the best Thai food I have tasted. Restaurant is small and unassuming, although we had take away on this occasion.

Diner Review №47

I poked in for a quick takeout order and sat down at home to eat some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten at loads of places across SoCal.

Their spicy bbq pork combo plate is not only scrumptious but an insane value for money. The shrimp fried rice served alongside is perfect. The rice is fragrant and the grains are perfectly intact. The shrimpys aren’t rubbery at all. The bbq pork is savory and sweet and delightfully charred. The sauce served alongside is savory and spicy, with notes of lemongrass and bits of cilantro stems. I didn’t know a dipping sauce that tasty could even exist. I would like to eat all of my charred meats with that sauce exclusively from now on, it’s that good.

Their pork pad thai is also the best pad thai I’ve ever had. It’s garnished very beautifully with roasted peanuts, herbs, and lemon. The raw carrots and bean sprouts serve to lighten up every bite. The sauce is flavorful and not overly oily, like some other places can be. The noodles are perfectly chewy and the sauce sticks nicely to them.

The tofu khao soi is also very yummy. It comes with crunchy noodle bits, mustard pickles, cilantro, red onions, and a squeeze of lemon. Shockingly, this didn’t make the cut as being my favorite dish from here, but it’s nonetheless very tasty. I would be obsessed with it if the noodles were bouncier and the curry broth was a touch creamier and spiced a little bit more.

The Thai tea’s great, also… not too milky or watery. Takeout orders are packed very securely and the food didn’t take too long to come out at all. It smelled great even in the bag! The service is very friendly here. The only downside is that they do charge a $1 fee if you pay with card. I will for sure turn to this place when I’m craving Thai from now on.

Diner Review №48

First time at spicy bbq Normandie/santa monica .. pad see ew , pad thai, pineapple fried rice amazing flavors and freshness! I didn’t like $1 charge to use my debit card , but I’ll still give 5 stars…

They are literally beyond my expectations. Unfortunately, they are my regular menus, so I can't try others because they are too delicious😎 Worth visiting.

Diner Review №61

Very good Northern Thai Cuisine. Recommend the pork curry, rich, deep, and full of flavor.

Diner Review №62

Delicious. Tastes absoulutely authentic.

Diner Review №63

Hands down the best Thai food in town. In fact about the best Thai I've had outside of Thailand.

Diner Review №64

Very nice Thai foods, Spicy BBQ pork is delicious. Definitely recommend it.

Diner Review №67

I love this place! Northern Thai rice noodle dish is my favorite and the service is always friendly. Highly recommend.

Diner Review №68

To start with, Spicy BBQ makes an absolutely solid Khao Soi (Thai Egg Noodle Soup). This restaurant is a small local favorite perfect for family dinners or eating with your chosen family. Perfect for ordering dishes to share or take out orders that will last a couple of days.

Diner Review №74

Little dining area tasty but different Thai dishes separating your typical ones.

Diner Review №75

Amazing food!!! Very tasty, nice portions, and a great price per order. I ordered their pad Thai, bbq pork (amazing sauce), orange chicken, fried shrimp and seafood soup (coconut style). I was extremely satisfied and honestly, probably one of the best Thai restaurants I have eaten from. Their restaurant is small but that didn't matter since I ordered to go. If you're in the area, you definitely have to try. 5 stars for me.

Diner Review №76

Delicious food. The service was excellent too!

Diner Review №77

Diner Review №78

I'll give this place a ten star if I could; it's not your average hole in the wall joint! I tried the Spicy BBQ with shrimp fried rice and it was amazing! Even their Thai Tea was one of the best I've had in recent memories. The Shrimp fried rice had the perfect amount of fire taste: not too overpowering and not too subtle which was perfect. The amount was perfect as well: the thing was heavy for just one order. The Spicy BBQ also came with a dipping sauce that was very unique; it was citrous-y and fishy and it wasn't like anything I've tasted before which was amazing! For what it's worth, you can't go wrong with this place!

Diner Review №79

I only one here because it was close to where I was working and some my surprise the barbecue pork was amazing it really wasn't spicy as advertised and they really don't give you much additional hot sauce but overall I'll definitely be back.

Diner Review №82

Years ago, I was looking for Kao Soy (Northern Thai Egg Noodles) and a few other Thai restaurants recommended Spicy BBQ. Since then, I've never gone anywhere else. The family is so friendly and welcoming, Kay is the main front house person and her smile is just heart warming. Usually always get the Northern Thai Egg noodles (lovely spicy curried noodles), Pad Won Sen (simple but great flavors), the fish soup, and the Spicy Jackfruit (with some sticky rice). Also the BBQ pork, green papaya salad, the lamb and spicy sausage are also great. BIG portions, CASH only (ATM in the restaurant) and holds up well to takeout. See you tomorrow again!

Everything we got was delicious, authentic, and presented with that home-cooked love&care (even the straw wrappers were folded into tiny flowers!). Our waitress was very helpful and gave us some awesome recommendations.

These pictures don't do this restaurant justice, thank you for the wonderful meal!

Diner Review №89

One of the best Thai restaurant in Los Angeles. Kay, is very kind and gave us great dishes to try. The Northern Thai menu is amazing.

Diner Review №90

Cash only spot FYI. Food is delicious and love supporting local small business. Got the bbq spicy pork, jackfruit with pork and the northern thai egg noodles. All amazing dishes. The standout was the bbq pork. How do they get it so flavorful, juicy and tender?!! Flavor bomb with every bite on all three dishes. Got it to go and still really good after 30 minutes on the road. Generous portions. Enough for two people for two meals. Will be back when in the area.

Diner Review №91

The foods are so expensive but the taste of their food is not so good, the steak is really hard to chew!! We didn't finish our food!

Diner Review №92

Except for my most recent experience, each time that I tried the spicy bbq pork, I thought it was great. Especially the first time I tried it. Has actual BBQ style/flavor, and usually if done right the bbq pork has additional light spice flavor (on May 15th 2021 though, because the pork wasn’t fresh, they covered the pork in a sweet sauce). So when done right, the bbq pork has only light spice flavor, and If you want to add some hot spices and additional spices, there's the sauce on the side, which tastes great and isn't that hot, but don't pour all of it on the food until you've tried how it works for you. I poured about half of the sauce and it worked well. 😼 Or you can dip the pieces inside instead. It's not so hot, which is a good thing. Hot enough so that I like it, not so hot that it ruins the food. It actually compliments the bbq pork very excellently, the sauce is a very tasty blend of spices, and the bbq pork on its own (when served with gentle seasoning, not when covered with a sweet sauce) is great too. I've tried a number of Thai places and few have something like this. They run the place with class, despite being in an unassuming/"ugly" strip mall, and few other of the small Thai restaurants have such a fine feel/look inside. They've been in business here since the 1980s. I tried the Spicy BBQ beef plate and it was also great that time when I tried it, and comes with the same sauce on the side. On May 15th 2021 at lunch time, I ordered the spicy bbq pork for maybe the 6th time, or 7th time, and this time it tasted good, but not great. They unusually put too much of the sweet sauce on it, I’m sure because the meat wasn’t fresh this time, it was past its time: I’m sure about that because I got diarrhea the next morning (Morning of May 16th) and once in the afternoon of May 16th, plus the day that I ate the not fresh bbq pork (May 15th) I had to go to the bathroom for a second time in one day that night, then as described above, the next morning I went two times before lunch, and it was diarrhea both times, though not such a bad case of diarrhea, probably because the morning of May 15th, I drank chamomile tea, which is germicidal, and that protected me. And this got me to wondering more about what kind of pork they use for their restaurant: I wonder this about almost all restaurants, since few restaurants are clear about that. I hope they don’t use the kind of meat that is injected with a bunch of hormones. I hope they use very good quality. But it’s not something that can be determined just from tasting the food, so though it usually tastes quite good, I have no idea of what quality of meat they use. I’m very disappointed in them not being consistent in quality, no one wants to eat expired or almost expired meat then get diarrhea! I’m not going to go again to them for over a month, and if it happens twice, I will go only a few times a year to them.

Diner Review №93

This is one of my favorite Thai places in the neighborhood, and that’s saying something being in Thai Town. The Khao Soi (Northern Thai Egg Noodle) has become one of my favorite dishes of all times and I haven’t found one that beats their version yet. Also, the employees are super sweet and often throw in some fresh fruit in our to-go order as they recognize our names from our constant ordering 🥰

Diner Review №104

This place is worth the wait! Love that they let you add yourself to the waitlist and check status on google. Came here on a Sunday night and it still took us 1.5 hours from the time we were added to the waitlist to get our table.

The best dishes we got were the tea leaf salad, chili lamb (so good!) and the traditional burmese lamb curry. The coconut rice goes really well with all the dishes.

I'm a tour guide of Los Angeles so it is literally my job to show people the best of the best of this vast city. When people ask for the best food (especially Thai, of course) this is one of the top places on my list.

Not only is their food delicious and authentic, but the people who run it are absolute gems and couldn't be more deserving of business and praise! I'm always greeted with big smiles and friendly conversation and it makes my whole experience so lovely. Looking at you, Kay and Tan! :)

My favorite thing to order is either the seafood platter or Khao soi but I find it quite unfathomable to imagine that anything here would be less than amazing.

Go eat!!!

Diner Review №120

I resisted reviewing this place 10 years ago in fears it would blow up... and that it has. Its under new ownership, but the staples are still strong. Egg Noodle Soup and BBQ pork are outrageously good. There are LA times articles on their soup written almost 15 years ago posted on the wall. A restaurant with only 4 or 5 tables, so plan accordingly.

Diner Review №121

I was in the mood for something low key and exceptional for the taste buds and this place hit the spot perfectly. It pains me to step on a small business struggling to survive but the quality of the food here is horrendous. The pad thai smelled like fat thighs. That's not a lame pun. Taste it to believe folks.

Food is fresh and amazingly full of flavor. A lot of people know the place so they order for pick up. There is an ATM machine, because it is a cash only place. I have never been to the bathroom but it is outside and upstairs and you need a key to get in. This is a "hole other wall" establishment that you should try at least once. They have a good selection of beef, pork, chicken, rice, and noodles. There is a lunch and dinner special. Their pork bbq was the best we’ve ever had at any Thai restaurants! It was juicy, smoky, and full of flavor! The portion was HUGE, too! Their Thai curry egg noodle was good also but too sweet for me. I’ve tried their clear noodle dish and fried rice in the past and all in all, their food seems authentic and definitely regional, i.e. Northern Thai style. If you are up to trying somewhat different Thai food, try this place!

Side note: staff are so kind and friendly and there are about five tables. Cash only but ATM machine inside the restaurant. Restroom is located upstairs and requires you to climb the stairs.

Diner Review №183

My fave is the mango sticky rice dessert! (Although twas my first time to try it) But you must also try the pork bbq and seafood with coconut milk sauce and thai fried rice with real crab flakes. Pad thai is just so-so, ive had way much better in other thai restos. I like how the place is small and rustic, it kinda gives you that homey feel vibe. It's like visiting your aunt who cooks great thai food. The server is also very knowledgable as to what to recommend based on your cultural background. I am a filipino and she hit the right spot.

Thai home cooking at its best. Amazingly friendly service, flavorful fresh ingredients and a good price point with large portions. 10 years
strong as a customer and I'm still bringing friends to visit Kay & her family.

Go-to dishes:
-spicy jackfruit. Try it. I've never had it anywhere else quite like this. Plentiful lemongrass, juicy bite size chunks of jackfruit, tomatoes and ground pork (the veg version is just as good). A side of sticky rice is necessary
-spicy pork bbq. Juicy, perfectly charred tender bites. You might want extra sauce if there are any leftovers.
-pad thai. The standard is not an afterthought here. Al dente with the perfect bounce when you chew the noodles, not too sweet with plenty of protein (tofu/shrimp usually for me)
-tom kha soup. Comes in a large flaming traditional Thai soup vessel (hot pot), creamy coconut, tangy lemongrass and galangal flavors with lots of veggies and tofu/shrimp.

Journey a bit outside of what's traditionally known as Thai Town for this tiny and amazing restaurant. And try the Jack Fruit. Also the owners couldn't be nicer.
