The food is good with nice spicy flavors. However this food hall leaves much to be desired. It’s cold and dark and dirty. Women’s restroom has a code, but there was still feces on the wall. Male restroom requires asking security to let you in, but they don’t even have hand soap.
Stumbled across a review for this cute little Thai spot downtown. It’s in sort of a food hall with one or two other places. Plastic chairs and small tables. No waiter. You order at the window. Feels a bit hipster but also a bit true to Bangkok street fare.
Our server/cashier/food runner wasn’t rude but was a bit over it (probably because he’s doing everything but the cooking) but we’ll forgive him because the food was fantastic.
This is some of the best Thai food I’ve had in LA. Started off with this amazing light, sweet sake. For apps we got the chicken wings which were cooked to perfection, crispy, not at all greasy, and had this salty sweet flavor to them. One of the best Asian wings I’ve ever had.
Next had the green curry which felt very fresh like it was made from scratch and not from a paste. It was bright, punchy, and there was a sweetness that brought it all together. The yellow curry rigatoni was different but grew on me. Had such a unique flavor. The Gra Pow was solid, love the fried egg on top. And the fried pork belly was absolutely divine. Crispy, not terribly fatty, tons of flavor, and came with a herby green sauce.
Love this place will def come back. Portion sizes are small but 4 dishes and one app easily filled 4 of us up. Came out to about $40 each with tax and the sake. So pretty fair.
I grabbed pick up for me and a few friends and I really wish we ate at the dining hall. I love how there were lots of windows and tables so you pop in for a quick bite. The service was super fast and the staff were really friendly. Next time I plan to spend more time. I will say the spice level was mild so keep that in mind when you order.
Bursting with flavors and tastes homemade, I’m a big fan of Holy Basil.
They do not carry Thai tea but they do carry a fantastic selection of fine wine, sake, sparkling wine and beer.
Their seating area is a whole vibe and makes you feel like you’re in Thailand with the red crates and red plastic stools.
No modifications to orders, and honestly they know best!
Favorite dishes are the Moo Krob Slab (takes 48 hours to prep before it’s baked then fried.)
Their Grandma’s Fish Fried rice literally tastes like someone’s grandma cooked a dish that everyone raves about. Their egg rolls are long and thin, definitely a favorite too.
Holy Basil is instant comfort that teleports you home. The dishes are flawlessly executed and the flavors are consistently on point. The vibe of this hidden gem reminds you of your family’s kitchen and I feel like a kid again full of excitement from the escaping aromas. I lean heavy into firing the menu family style and always look forward to memorable meals shared. Their take out withstands LA traffic to the far away land of Santa Monica. Service is hands down the friendliest in town.
Okay, it's hectic here. Ordering at the window takes a while because they're slow to notice you. The place is loud, parking is weird and a little sketchy, and it's literally a block from Skid Row so lingering outside isn't always great.
However.
Everything we ate was delicious - exactly the right spice level to satisfy all of our palates, excellent balance of seasonings, fresh veggies and revelatory sauces, and addictive broth and fried pork.
My green curry was wonderfully flavorful with tender chicken and fresh veggies, my friend's tom yum goong with noodles was gorgeously fragrant, her hubby's moo krob slab was crunchy perfection...but it was the eggplant & kabocha squash that blew us all away with its fiery sauce. I cannot stop thinking about it, and will crave it daily until I can have it again.
Definitely trying the Atwater Village location next!
I ordered delivery Kee Mao and Shrimp Fried Rice and gotta say it’s 10/10 delicious. Arguably best Thai I’ve had in LA- Ruen Pair or Northen Thai food are other favs. Some fool on here dropped the score for the ambiance but it is not that kind of place!
DO NOT order delivery from them. Ordered on Postmates, they forgot to put the entree in the bag, and they’ve refused to give me a refund for the $20 it cost, or do anything to try to make it right. Eventually I just gave up.
The food is great though, so go in person! EDIT: another guy on here (who seems legit) said there was feces smeared on the wall in the bathroom, so watch out for that I guess
Got the grandmas fish and rice. Good flavors. The portion is way too small. It’s an appetizer for $23. I left hungry.
Love this place and so grateful for vegan options, but 4 stars because the portion sizes for the price of the food.. wish they’d give you more like authentic Thai spots
Lunch Service: Ordered Uber eats due to the fire and madness going on right now. The food was absolutely terrible. I ordered the pad ki mao, pad Thai, holy wings, and the green Thai curry.
The green curry had the consistency and taste of green water I was unable to eat it at all. 0 flavor profile of Thai cuisine and just a really sad excuse for a Thai curry.
The holy wings were just okay you’re better off not ordering it especially with how under seasoned it came.
The pad thai was seasoned pretty well however the shrimp that it came with wasn’t seasoned AT ALL and I just left me with a bad taste in my mouth especially if I’m drinking paying $18 for a supposedly authentic dish.
The pad ki Mao was under seasoned as well and the serving portions were abysmal for the price which is insane.
TLDR: go somewhere else if you’re looking for authentic Thai cuisine unless you’re drunk af then order pad Thai with no shrimp cause it’s not worth the money. Order nothing else cause it will disappoint you and leave you hungry still.

In a weird little food court, casual street vendor vibes, the food is delicious
I LOVED THIS PLACE! ORIGINALLY I WAS GOING to eat at Broken mouth but their menu was small so I went to HOLY BASIL and, HOLY BASIL IT WAS DELICIOUS!😂 I GOT THE Grandma Fish Bowl and and the order of wings! Damn make you want to slap your momma! I suggest this place ! 5 stars from me.

Ordered green curry. Never will again even though this place is close to me because of how grainy the curry was and how undercooked and fatty the chicken was. Most Thai restaurants use chicken breast. Not sure why they use the cheapest cuts of chicken for their curries, but it was foul. Never again.
Very tasty food. I had the spicy ground beef plate with an egg and it is very good. I wish it was 50% bigger for the price ($23 after tax and tip). You will probably be hungry after you eat here if you’re looking for a full meal. They made it quickly during the lunch hour, took about 5-10 mins. Ambiance is OK - it’s a food hall. Bathrooms are gross but otherwise the seating and eating areas are clean. I think for this high price point to work on an fast casual Asian concept, the owners need to throw in another side to fill up customers, something they can break even at for an extra $1 (a paratha maybe?)
Will genuinely never understand the over hype of this place. I've given it about three different chances and each time it's mid at best. Mainly for people walking through the alleys stopping for a quick bite. All of the praise and accolades sadly make no sense

Pad see ew was divine. Can’t wait to come back and try more!
customer service is trash. even if you show up in person no one will take your order. you can't order food without downloading their specific app and doing it on your phone. And the attitudes of the employees 🥴. The food is fine but
Do not come here if you respect yourself.
Food is pretty good but the portions aren't really worth the price. I could've eaten two of my meals for the $20+ cost. I order to-go, maybe they're bigger if you eat at the restaurant? They only filled about a third of my small to-go box.

Taste is mediocre for Thai food, and a little pricey. The food did taste fresh which was a plus.
This is what I want from a great Thai food place.
Amazing food, affordable price for the quality and simple easy ambiance
Annoying and aloof staff. Kept forgetting our order and then came back to charge us after we already paid. They also were unsure of when they were opening when they listed a certain time on their website. Also not worth the price.
Friendly staff
I’ve only had their food via Uber eats and it’s been great. Most recently I had their Kang Kew Waan Kai green curry, garlic Chinese broccoli, & Gra Pow eggplant.
The green curry is nice in spicy with excellent flavor and the right amount of chicken. The Chinese broccoli is delicious because of the amount of garlic they put in it and the Gra Pow eggplant is delicious.
Overall it’s a delicious Thai place. My new favorite dish is their Kai Jeew(scrambled egg but fluffy).
***update***
I tried their pork egg rolls, pad see ew pork and shrimp, along with the beef tataki nam tok. The pork egg rolls were delicious, crispy and flavorful. The pad see ew was pretty good and it had a good amount of meat. Overall a solid noodle dish.
The beef tataki was also delicious, the picture looks really messy because it was a delivery order. It was super tangy, flavorful but a lot of chili. Still a very delicious appetizer.
Saw that the Kai Jeow is gone, which was my favorite dish.
Food is good. Love the place (tho I did takeout). Verrryyyy spicy
Downtown LA boasts the finest Thai cuisine, an undisputed gem where culinary excellence meets a burst of flavors. The dishes, crafted with fresh ingredients, create a symphony of taste that tantalizes the taste buds, leaving you craving more with each explosive bite.

Vegan options ! Near fashion district ( north ) .
The food is mid. Lacking services. And there are some flies around. Overall not worth the price
My best meal in my week in DTLA
Skimpy with food portions. I've had better thai food for less money and you get way bigger portions. I will not eat here again !!! I do not recommend !!!!
Pricey but you get what you pay for! You can tell, they use high quality produce.
I ordered the Tom Yum Goong soup and a Thai tea , both really good . Soup Medium Spice was pretty 🔥 but didn’t melt my eye brows off ;)
, great customer service 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
This restaurant has so many varieties. Everything is just so mouthwatering that I would love to recommend it to everyone out here. The mock tails here are just wow you must give it a try and trust me when I say this. This top menu here is almost vegan and too much to ask for.
Food is delicious and fresh so 4.5/5 there.
But everything else is a caricature of the current state of dining. First you have to order through an app (after scanning a QR code...what if you don't have a phone?). I guess Covid killed the need for humans. Then you can't pay with cash and have to pay a credit card fee. If you don't leave me the option then don't charge me for using my card or build in the cost in the food.
Since I live so close, I always hope the food will be better. It’s fine…just not great. I decided to try one of their specialty dishes, gra pow nueh. I wish I had photos…everything was a bit over cooked and dry - I like a crispy fried egg, but this was just too far, the meat was seasoned well, but also just a little too far to the point it started to crisp. The rice was perfectly cooked, just very dry. The beans as well, perfectly cooked, but just tossed on top of the crispy dried beef rubbery egg, they weren’t appealing. I ate the food because I was hungry, not because I enjoyed it. I’d give the restaurant this feedback myself, but you’re not welcome to step to the window unless you’re picking up an order. So…here’s the feedback…
so fun!!
I ordered the Pad Thai Goong, Tom Yum Goong, and Pad Kee Mao, which is my all-time favorite Thai noodle dish.
While I have to admit that the Tom Yum Goong was very spicy and even made me choke, I still enjoyed the soup. I ordered all the dishes with the least amount of spice, but it was still a tad too spicy for my liking. Thai spice is no joke!
One thing that stood out to me was the addition of pork belly to the Pad Thai and dried shrimp to one of the other dishes. These unique touches really elevated the flavors of the dishes.
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Holy Basil and would definitely come back again!
There was metered street parking available.
Everything was adequate and nothing special. Kitchen is open and clean. There were plenty of tables and chairs available in the food court.
Steaming hot and flavorful food! I enjoyed every bite. Be careful - the mild has a bit of a kick!
Really yummy Thai food. We went there and ordered at the kitchen but the lady seemed a bit unfriendly so it made ordering a bit awkward. But the food was really really good and we ate it all there! Also you have to bring your own drinks because they didn’t have any haha. Id recommend it anyways - this amount was enough to feed 6!
Phenomenal
This place is so good, my partner and I literally chose to do a 24 hour layover in LA on our trip back to London from Mexico just so we could eat here again. We went there for dinner and then lunch again the next day before our flight back :’D
Gra Pow is my #1 there! Joy is amazing. I cannot wait to be back.
came here on my lunch break and the food was fast and good!
really good thai food, the pad thai was delicious!
Solid Thai food. Jidori chicken is tender and very flavorful. Green curry not too sweet. Pad Thai is flavorful.
Overall: 4.4/5 (Ubereats)
Steamed Wontons ($8.80): They had a BOGO deal so we decided to try it. I don't think I had Thai wontons before so I didn't know what to expect. They looked like pot stickers but the sauce was very unique. I don't think I'm a big enough fan to recommend or reorder it.
Moo Krob (Crispy Pork Belly) Pad Kee Mao Noodle, Regular Spicy Level ($17.60): The portion is small for the price; however, it was delicious The dish is very umami but oily though so sharing it would be a good idea.
Crispy Pork is really good here.
What an Amazing way to start off my Saturday
This is the best Thai food I have had in Los Angeles. The flavors are mouth watering. Fresh herbs 🍃…excellent customer service. I am beyond blessed by the temperature and taste of the food. I would highly recommend to every and anyone.
Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Everything was perfect.
delicious food!
I highly recommend the pork pad see ew. I've tried other dishes and they are not as amazing as their pad see ew.
Best thai food ever!!!
Amazing food
Bodega
Real thai street foods. Very local
I think they are really picky about ingredients they use. Big prawns, pork and veggies etc.
I ordered and eat outside. There are seats outside sharing with other restaurants.
Must try
- Padthai prawns
- holy basil beef/ crispy pork
- salmon lime spice salad
Drink I had canned thai tea. Not too sweet, don’t need ice. It’s ready to drink.
They are professional drink maker so they know what they are doing. ! Recommend!
Lady very selfish. I came to pick up a customer order ask if I may used the restroom and needed code from store she said I needed to ask the janitor. And janitor said no she has the code all restaurants do so she must provide it. But she just didn’t care. As if she is the owner or cleaning the restroom
Holy Basil… more like Holy F this place is good. My wife and I heard great things about this place, so for dinner tonight we decided to order the Gra Pow Neuh, Pad See Ew, and Egg Rolls for delivery, and 4 hours later I’m laying in bed dreaming about the next time we’ll have Holy Basil again. Highly recommend!
Best Thai food in LA. Their tea is made in house, and is very tasty.
This is Thai food made with the love and respect it deserves. First time here and man was it worth the craziness of downtown LA.
Great Thai food in the heart of the fashion district!
Small portions and high prices. You are getting your food at prices for a nice sit down spot but you get to eat out of card board. Three win gs are 10 dollars. The cashier was rude.
UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF!!!!! NOT FRIENDLY!!!! NOT WELCOMING!!! Both workers seemed to be annoyed when I walked up. (There is no option to give 0 stars). They closed and stop taking orders at 8:23pm. When asked why, the excuses were because they were tired, they already broke the kitchen down, they’ve been at work all day and they were ready to go home. I requested to speak with a manager and they both refused.
I’ve been a customer at this place over a year and I’ve always loved the quality of the food, but today there’s this new cashier person said to me “ I advise you to tip” when I order a food to go. I’ve been to countless restaurants but nobody else has ever been told me this! I normally don’t tip for the food to go unless I pay for it with cash then I give them a change as tip. Like for example if the food was $18.50 and I paid with $20 bill, I’d give them $1.50 as a tip, but not when I use the debit card and especially when I asked for a condiment ( spicy oil), I was declined because they sell it in a jar and not give away for free. Like other person was reviewed, the customer service SUCKS!!! at this place. The tip is EARNED not demanded!! I’ve worked as a cashier at the restaurant in the past but this is unthinkable and unacceptable and I feel really disgusted to say the least.
Great meal. Solid ingredients.
I come here because the food is delicious but honestly their customer service sucks. I always have to go out my way to make myself visible at the counter. Often a staff member is nearby the window, granted they may be working on something, but good and even average customer service is to let the customer know you'll be right there and acknowledge them. Leaving me awkwardly waiting EACH time I come will be the reason if I decide to not patronize this business anymore.
Best tom yum I've ever tried
Tom Yum and the chicken wings are SO good
Don't order the pad Thai. 😒 There are lots of dime size hard shell shrimp that cut up my mouth, and almost made me choke. They had the head still attached with sharp points on them. A horrible eating experience.
Great thai food! Really good place.
Guys. I hate writing reviews but seeing how little reviews Holy Basil hurts me. I love this business so much. Their food is honestly powerful and sends flavor through my veins. Their shrimp in all their dishes are so large and fresh. AND they keep the head on - the best part! I’ve tried everything on their menu. Their crispy pork and green beans stir fry is amazing, their pad Thai is extra shrimpy, Tom Kha Gai is very lemony and sooo flavorful and tart. You can’t really go wrong with anything on their menu. Wow I could go on forever. Currently ordering from them this second!
Hands down, best Thai I’ve ever had. The flavor punch is unbeatable. Not your average Thai takeout. Also, their packaging is thoughtful (things are separated and don’t get soggy) and they have really cute branded tape/stickers to safely secure their bags!
Absolutely phenomenal Thai food. I feel likes it's my first time having the cuisine. Flavors and quality of the ingredients are superb. Thank you for sharing your flavors with the community. 😊
Holy mole this place is a gem in dtla.
Great service, great food, and even better Pad Thai. Differently coming back again.
I didn't care for this place
This place is a must. So many authentic Thai flavors. Make sure and check their Instagram for daily specials! You will not be disappointed!
I'm not sure how to describe it. It was like seeing in color for the first time. All the flavors that I'm familiar with in Thai food, but they were so bright and vibrant. Definitely recommend!
Hands down the best Thai food in town! Not to mention the__base drinks on offer to complement. Do yourself a favor and swing by.
This place is absurd. In all honesty I'm generally used to generic LA Thai food, which is fine, but once I found holy basil, HOLY!!!! The flavors, the variety and the freshness! Honestly, Thai food will never be the same. Holy basil has ruined me for all other Thai food places, and I am ok with that.
Oh yah, and the fact it's right below my apartment is just a cherry on top. ❤️❤️❤️
It’s the best Thai food ever. They use the best ingredients in the market. Come out and try.
