Best place to have northern Thai food in CA. We tried most of every menu they have and found that the test is very authentic. Our favorite dishes are the northern sausage and the chili pastes menu. Services also really great for the small restaurant. The server she always asks how much spices you want and recommends dishes for you.
It's rare for me to find authentic food that truly captures the taste of its origin. After years of craving the flavors of home, this place has earned a special place in my heart. Their Gang Hang Lae (Northern Pork Curry) is a must-try if you love perfectly stewed pork with curry powder and ginger. Don't miss the Sai Oua (Northern Spicy Pork Sausage) with sticky rice either. The combination of herbs and spices in the sausage with the hot sticky rice is a match made in heaven. Next time you're craving Northern Thai food, this is the only place you should consider.
I downed a khao soi gai after a little hike at Griffith. I don’t make it out into this area of LA very often so this was the only placed I had saved (recommended by a friend). The chicken was fall-off-bone tender and clung onto the coconut curry super well. The type of noodles weren’t my personal favorite but I definitely know people who like the egg noodle texture. The fried noodles they give you in the bag are SO delicious in the soup!! You will not regret trying it and the price point is pretty solid too!!
Los Angeles Times selected this hole in the wall as top 101 restaurants back few years ago.. yelp average rating is 4.7… can this truly a hole in the wall Thai restaurant really this good? Hasn’t been here for few years so it is time
to give it a try again… with seats fewer than 20, this is truly a hole in the wall .. similar to many restaurants in Thailand.. we had 2 of their most popular soup .. curry chicken which I love and my wife chose the tomato soup with pork… and of course, tiger signature dish-spicy sausage.. very delicious taste with lemon grass..
We had travelled LA for 4 days and came here for 3 dinners continuously, we also ordered to-go dishes for breakfast. Foods were a little bit spicy but really delicious! We love the deep fried pork belly most! We always order a combination of 1 dish of sour salad, 1 main dish with meat, and 1 bowl of porridge or noodle. That was perfect for two people in both quantity and flavor. Additionally, the owner was super friendly, and price was fair.
Loved this place! Super authentic Thai food, if you don't look outside it almost feels like Thailand. Loved everything we ate, wish I could remember the names but I wouldn't know how to spell them anyway.
The beef jerky, papaya salad, and fried pork belly are some of the best I've ever had!
Immaculate. Great food. Great Prices. Great Customer Service. Would come again. 👏
Really yummy Thai food, we got Khao Soi, beef salad, and fried pork belly. Good Thai tea also.
REAL Thai food. REAL family. Quality and flavors 10 stars

The people who worked there were nice, but the food wasn't very tasty. Also, the restaurant itself was not clean.
Fantastic no frills food made with love - number 1 on the menu slaps
本場の味で感動しました。久しぶりにタイ料理を食べて、とても満足できました。
このレストランは北タイ料理のお店です。特に、オーナーさんもとても素敵な方です。
😍😍😍😍😍🫡
Most delicious Thai food we’ve had - highly recommend
Wow! One of the best Thai meals I’ve had in my life! Highly recommend the larb, pork curry, khao soi, and omelette!

A rundown, lacking presentation and character, Northern Thai restaurant. The chicken leg Khao Soi that I ordered was a poor version of the signature dish of that name served in Chiang Mai. The drumstick was boiled and yucky tasting. The curry soup broth was served luke warm. The dry noodles tasted old rather than fresh.
This was the best Thai food I’ve ever had in the US. I will come here every time I’m in LA

I hope I live there. All the northern style food is good.
Incredible food!!! The Khao Soi Nua and Gaeng Hang Lae were the best I’ve ever had! Next time we are trying the jackfruit salad and larb moo kua!
The service is so kind and the prices are great!
Definitely coming back next time we are in LA!

Excellent meals! Flavors are outstanding! A definite must experience
This place seemed a lot better when the entrees were 8.99 each and no forced gratuity. I visited tonight and was surprised to find two entrees (both sitting out all day) and sticky rice were 32 dollars. The room temp larb and spicy basil chicken were taken in the back, half-arsed thrown in a microwave and brought to my table. The temperature of the food was very uneven (hot on one side, cold on the other, etc). For the basil chicken, instead of giving you wings or boneless wings, the chicken is cut into really weird sections (likely cheap scraps from the supplier) that were mostly just sharp cut bones...but they still bread and fry it like its actual meat lol. You have no idea if meat is there until you try to bite into it. Charging $13 for that is criminal. The meat of both dishes seriously lacked both in quality and taste. To top it off, they add gratuity no matter how small your party and STILL expect you to tip. Unfortunately it seems due to the hype, Mark Wiems video and steady stream of customers this place has turned into just another LA restaurant playing "How much can we charge stupid Americans for 'ethnic' food?". The actual quality is terrible, they are now running solely on reputation. This place is clearly no longer about the food...its about how much profit the owner(s) can extract. Prime example of what happens when a restaurant feels like they no longer need to EARN your business. Well they've lost mine.
Fall 2024 review: They sold out. Quality collapsed, prices increased more than 50 percent. Minimal spices and flavor in all of the dishes we ordered, with the larb using low quality meat and the sticky rice steamed in a plastic bag, not kidding. No leaf inside either. Won't return.
We were the only east/southeast Asian family dining.
They still use takeout containers and cutlery, there's no bathroom, and mediocre service that they insist on a service charge for.
They're basically a fake Thai attraction for tourists and transplants now. This clientele is also rude and annoying and our mediocre, overpriced meal was highly unpleasant due to screaming kids and pushy tourists.
For the final straw, I was sick the next day because they likely make the food in the morning and leave it out. This can work if properly seasoned and spiced. White level spice will breed bacteria. I had never gotten sick the many times I ate here when it was still an authentic restaurant targeting Thai people.
Summer 2022 review: Very good, and very interesting food. Definitely worth a visit to try another style of Thai food.
tofu khao soi + jackfruit salad. so good. so cheap. so fast. man!
Really good foods. They dont have alot of dining tables but you can always do to go.
Good food. Vairiety of c
foods to choose. Price is reasonable. Dining is kinda small, so dont go diring rush hours. Highly recomended!
Small cute place , staff are really nice
I have a nut allergy and the lady was really good at telling me what was safe for me , and the food I ate was safe and gave me no issues of course
Delicious curry and good prices, everyone in my party loved their food
And the Thai tea was a perfect way to end the meal
My friend and I are visitor from NYC. We were on a vacation trip in LA. Even we already ate, and we were supposed to meet her bf at another restaurant, on the way there, she saw the sign of Northern Thai food and she wanted to stop by to get some food to take home. The place is in a small valley but still have parking spaces. My friend got couple local northern Thai food orders because it remind her of where she was from which was also Chingari (one of the northern provinces in Thailand. Her bf ended up picking us up here because she has to wait for her order to finish. Outside also has some authentic Thai vegetable selling and I wish I can bring them to New York, but I couldn't because our trip still have long way to go and vegetable might be going bad. Anyway, were so jealous of Thais who live in CA now that they have more stuff we can find in NYC.
Top-tier Northern Thai food. Paired with phenomenal, down-to-earth service. 10/10
Amazing food! Just a small restaurant , with amazing staff.
I’ve been coming here since they first opened and were featured in the LA Times. My favorite is the jackfruit salad, it’s probably one of my favorite things to eat in LA period. I also love the larb, papaya salad and khao soi gai. Everything is excellent and spicy! The staff are all super sweet and friendly. I also love buying fresh fruit from the stand outside! One of my favorite hidden gems in LA
The food here is incredible good, this spot is a gem, $10 for a whole meal. Very good price, Very cheap! And it tastes soo good. The service is fast, so crowded everytime I came here to eat, I just wish they expand the place a little bigger! It’s so crowded I Alwys have to wait outside. Definitely worth the wait.. will highly recommend this to anyone!!
Authentic as it gets.

Best Thai street food in soCal. To die for pork curry!
They had buffet bins of food sitting out, not directly under heat lamps, at least the entire time we were there. The Thai iced tea was over brewed and quite bitter with tannins from the tea. Staff was on their phones and we stood at the cash register for some time before having to get their attention multiple times.
BLUF: if you enjoy northern Thai food and happen to live or be visiting Hollywood, I found a place for you to try. It is very authentic.
I had the khao soi. This is a dish unique to northern Thailand. I had it in Chiang Mai for the first time. This bowl took me back to that first experience.
This restaurant is in Thai town, right off west sunset blvd. if you enjoy Thai food, this is a great spot.
I also had Thai tea, of course. Can’t go to a Thai restaurant without getting Thai tea. It was delicious, man aroi (มันอร่อย).
Small little shop packed with rare items from the northern Thai cuisine! I wish I came with others so I can try different dishes. I got Khao Soi, the standard coconut milk curry egg noodle with chicken. Even though the ingredients and presentation is not fancy, it delivers the right flavor. What's special is the tenderness, falling off the bone feel, of the drumsticks. They definite passed the bar for the most basic dishes. So I am looking forward to trying other stuff there.
We had travelled LA for 4 days and came here for 3 dinners continuously, we also ordered to-go dishes for breakfast. Foods were a little bit spicy but really delicious! Generous meat in Coconut Chicken Soup. Called before to make sure they had this soup. FYI They rotate soups & some dishes they offer. 20.00 = soup + rice + 18% tip Nice service.
Very spicy but very delicious dishes. Be prepared
Great authentic northern thai food. I believe the owner is from Chiang Mai too. Came on a Friday morning and got seated right away. Service is fast and you get your food shortly after ordering.
The khao soi tasted amazing and components were similar to thailand's. It had a kick of spice already so the extra spice wasnt needed. One thing i like about this restaurant was that a bowl of khao soi only costed $11 when other places charge around $15-$17.
The only downside here is the parking. Small parking lot in a plaza. I got lucky and snagged a spot but on other days might have to look for street parking.
Mega Essen, schon lange nicht so gut gegessen, wurden sehr freundlich bedient!!!
Busy little side street restaurant. We arrived during dinner rush but got seated quickly. Ordered Orange Chicken and Chicken Chow Mien. They are family portion so choose wisely. We took the extras with us and they were really helpful packing it up.
Almost $50 for 3 items and drinks but plenty of food 4 people.
Food is very very good!! But sometimes they close early :( The guy closing up didnt have the best english to explain why but I will still be coming back to eat again.
The curry is amazing!! And affordable
I grew up in a Thai household and the food here is very much authentic! The Thai northern sausage “sai oua” (ไส้อั่ว) is made fresh and is soooo delicious! 🤤 It is difficult to find a Thai restaurant that makes this dish fresh, not frozen.
The atmosphere is very humble and the restaurant space is small, but I don’t mind at all. They have a lot of choices for takeout food.
Got some Thai authentic dish , look like street food in Thai
Incredible hidden gem serving up mouth-watering authentic northern Thai food in a hole-in-the wall setting. The khao soi gai might just be my favorite dish in the LA food scene. Absolutely perfect and the owner/staff are all lovely.
Wow
what a wonderful family restaurant!
they were so nice and let me use their bathroom when i had to pee super bad
4.5/5. Highly flavorful northern Thai food at a decent price. Service was very friendly. Not much seating so be prepared to wait if dining in.
This is a wonderful place! The service is very friendly and the food is DELICIOUS - super flavorful and unique dishes you can’t find anywhere else. Small parking lot in the strip mall with reserved spots for the restaurant. Will definitely be back & the value for money is excellent. Dine in or take out - you really won’t be disappointed!
Food court style restaurant with 2-3 tables. Theres usually no seats, so expect to take it togo. Food is okay, can't speak on authenticity, but it tasted pretty good. Good spot for lunch takeout. Big free parking lot in front.
Spicy....
Anything you order will be fantastic.
Their Thai Tea is damn good too, would recommend.
They do actual proper Thai spicy if you want!
Just epically good. My second visit, and I ordered the #1 again (I also had the #23 and the Thai Iced Tea last time and both were wonderful, too). Just awesome for a cold late autumn night. Brothy and perfectly spiced and filled with delicious noodles. If you are GF you can replace your egg noodles with rice ones, which I did last time, but I decided to risk the egg ones this time, 'cause they are that much more delicious. The chicken is super flavorful and very tender.
My only complaint is that everything is served on plastic disposable dishes. But it's very friendly service, super quick for food to come out, and just bomb diggity delicious. Not the most atmospheric by a long run, but colorful and charming and filled with locals of all stripes and thus very pleasant. The food was so good I didn't have time for a photo. Very reasonably priced, too!
I think the taste must be very authentic because it was very spicy and very complex, unlike anything we have had at typical Thai restaurants.
We were curious and drawn by the high ratings. Even though our palate was probably too Americanized to truly appreciate the taste, we did enjoy trying the many unique dishes not found at other places.
Service was fast and friendly.
They have some unique dishes I’ve never tried before and they’ve all been very satisfying. The staff here is very friendly as well.
This is my new favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. The restaurant is far from new, however, that doesn't make it any less exciting. Every single dish is exceptionally flavorful and the staff are all incredibly friendly, going out of their way to make you feel at home as long as you have the time to be nice to them as well.
Every time I came here I asked a lot of questions about the food, and they were really excited to tell me everything I wanted to know.
I particularly recommend the larb and the jackfruit but seriously, anything here is going to be incredible.
I paid, I sat down and they brought over the food.
The employees then came over to me with my receipt for $18 asking why I didn’t tip.
I told them I just paid $18 for 1 portion of red curry. They continued to ask me about a tip while I’m about to dig into my food. I then just got up, got my refund and left the food there untouched.
Came in for lunch and this one was just not it…. The quality is reaaallllyyy lacking here. We ordered the Kao Soi and the broth was nice but the chicken and the noodles were disappointing. The noodles tasted over cooked and not fresh :/ the chicken was falling off the bone which was very exciting but when you take your first bite, it is immediately noticeable that the quality of the chicken was poor and it tastes off? almost like it was cooking in a both with different spices so it just didn’t blend well with the kao soi broth. Price is nice but we just saw the reviews that they automatically add 15% tip!!! We did not notice this nor did they inform which is a HUGE MISS on service ughhhhh. there is absolutely better- one of my fav Kao Soi’s is in Silverlake.
Very good! We dined inside and had the papaya salad and curry noodle, Thai tea and grass jelly. Inside is small and no frills but besides the point. I would recommend this place STOP using plastic, forks, plates and bowls / it’s wasteful, bad for the environment, bad for us (micro plastics in food) and takes away from the dine in experience. But otherwise food was very good as was the service!
I finally visited this restaurant and am glad I did it. I ordered to go, 1 pork curry and 1 jackfruit (vegan), and $10.99 each enough serving for 2 people. As soon as I got home, I ate it over white rice. The pork curry was an explosion of flavors. The meat melts in your mouth. While the jackfruit was sweet, tangy, and spicy, perfect pair to my pork curry. I now have a new favorite Thai restaurant. Go ahead and give them a try. You'll be hooked!
Authentic Thai food. Lovely ladies, service was quick too.
Northern Thai cuisine is spicy, some of the dishes are ‘pet mak-mak’ - very very spicy!
But oh so flavourful.
Well worth a visit.
Atmosphere is like in Thailand 😁
Everything is tasty and prices are good
Might be the best food in Los Angeles. Legit everything is good.
I drove all the way to this restaurant from Cypress California.
Didn’t appreciate the way they handled their hours of operation. They didn’t answer the phone and when I got here, they were closed.
They offered no explanation- even with that, a simple oh, I’m sorry would’ve sufficed, the older gentleman just smiled but the older lady started laughing very loudly. I didn’t appreciate it, it made me feel bad.
I don’t care how good some people say the food is or the reviews, after that, I’ll never return.
Family members 👍
Everything here is delicious and authentic. But if you want to try something that nowhere else have, it’s jackfruit salad! It’s my favorite dish to order from here. Oh, and their Thai Sausage too! So tasty!!!
Saw this place on Munchies Vice YT channel and bookmarked to visit while in LA. Best choice ever! Full of flavor, spices, all fresh ingredients. Service was friendly and attentive. Went around 3pm so had place to sit. Parking is limited but lot is available. There's a grocery stand right in front of the restaurant. Papaya salad spice level can be adjusted. We got medium but that was too spicy for me. I would say medium is "spicy" and mild is medium. So go one notch down. Trust me, unless you want to cry while eating.
Theft alert!!! Be careful! The waitress/ owner stole money from us!!! She was unhappy with our tip, and aggressively asked for more, which we then rejected out of principle. When we checked our bank account later, we found that she had added the tip anyway! This was completely unauthorised and tantamount to theft! Will be reported to police!!!
This is one of my go-to spots for Thai food. The food and service are excellent. I recommend ordering the food for take-out as the space is small and crowded because it is a popular place. There hasn't been any outdoor seating when I've been there. As for parking, the plaza's lot is small, but I've always found a parking spot. Maybe I've been lucky.
Came to know about this place thanks to Mark Weins (Thai-food YouTuber). The Khao Soi spiciness is definitely adjusted for the American palette but the flavors are just as good as in Chiang Mai. The Nam Prik Ong was okay - the flavor changes from restaurant to restaurant even in Thailand. I was a bit underwhelmed by the lack of assorted veggies that came out (especially when compared with the photo). Mine sadly only came with some cabbage and cucumber.
That said, it's probably as authentic you can get especially for the price.
There was a bad feeling once we were asked if we were dining in. We ordered 6 entries and received to go portioned sized dishes, one thai tea, and two sticky rice in bags. We received plastic cutleries, cups, and bowls. We were charged and paid well over 100 bucks cash, including tax and a 15/20% forced gratuity for only 3 people. The older lady worker had the "face" to demand more tips. For their information, the amount of gratuity is at the discretion of the customer based on how they feel the service was. Sidenote-Fancy upscale restaurants charge that same rate for 6 or more people. This place served you water from a tap water sink located just a yard from your table. Be careful when you pay your bill. Check your receipt and the listed menu prices.
My first time here. I order the Khao soi chicken. Over all very good, just a little sweet for my taste. I'll try again, maybe beef.
Authentic Thai taste! Food is flavorful. Be prepared to be spiced
up!
Thought already reviewed. My go-to though still “iffy”. I tend to only eat one dish as it’s the only one freshly made; hot stuff is mostly buffet style or pre cooked from early, then reheated & later again reheated & served all day. Most (LA) Thai restaurants do this.
My rather critical review of Thai food is from over a decade of thoroughly the region just for food & culture.
Don’t get the “Larb” - just ground pork with minimal green onion & chili (zero authenticity as Larb is heavy spicy (lots chilies) & mashed garlic, coriander, green onion, basil with added lime…. But here/ there, looks like ground meat with minimal green onions & chilis. Added a google image of Larb (fresh and closer to “spot on”) compared to their overcooked, burnt version.
Pluses: I took option no.1 - kind of soup with tofu and it was tasty, with strong flavours. The staff was friendly, giving you water with ice and refill it once empty.
Minuses:
Unfortunately all food was served in oneway plastic cutlery for no reason.
There are signs saying "No public restroom" all over the place, but it seems that there is no guests' restroom either.
Cash only - minimum for card payment was higher than any dish.
The price I needed to pay was much higher than the price written next to the dish I took (!).
Super yummy thai food but be forewarned the soup that says it has blood does have actual animal blood in it. not quite my style but the other dish I had was incredible
Lovely place, authentic, delicious food. Get the khao soi (spelling?)!
slept on
Decent Thai food, zero ambiance, limited seating. Located in a strip mall with limited parking. Found food to be ok, very authentic but unlikely to please everyone. Service friendly and helpful. The interior offers a few seats and little else on offer. Not quite sure about the 5 star ratings people are giving.
He’s to find parking so prepare to spend some time looking for one on the streets. Small place but food is decent, staff were very friendly. They accept credit cards but only over $10.
so good!!! the khao soi and the jackfruit salad are incredible 💯😍💯😝💯
Great family run restaurant with plenty of choice, special Thai recipes, freshly cooked food, very kind staff and good prices. Also, you can buy excellent fruit and vegetables from the truck in front of the entrance.
Food was good its to spicy for me if you like spicy food you will like the food 🥘
After ordering a dish that was a little spicy, the staff intuitively noticed and provided other non-spicy food as a courtesy, all delicious. The dine-in area is modest in size, but is recognized for serving food authentic to Thailand.
There are a few table for lunch.
But the teasty original food of Northern of Thailand are right here.👍👍
A humble spot with great northern thai dishes which aren’t the typical Thai dishes we usually see like green or red curry, pad thai, or drunken noodles.
If we do a small research into the northern Thai cuisine we can fine absolute great dishes from this restaurant.
Liked everything except for the sausages they served, felt a bit off.
SO GOOOD! the flavors are incredible and have so much depth. chicken curry is my absolute favorite but cannot go wrong with anything in the menu. true hole in the wall relic
They don't have vegetarian options and the presentation of the dishes were really bad! The service was nice, I would recommend the Khao soy
Daily rotating specials are fresh, great service. Our favourite dish was the curry soup. Brought us back to Thailand. We ordered 4 dishes for 2 people and got to eat the leftovers for late night munchies.
Small Northern Thai spot in Hollywood. Came here after hiking at Griffith around noon. There’s a very small parking lot as well as metered street parking. Credit cards accepted but there’s a $10 minimum. There’s enough inside seating for 10 people; most people who went appeared to get takeout.
Hot take, but I didn’t really like the sai oua sausage. I found the texture to be fuzzy, which threw me off. That being said, the laksa was delicious and I wish I had more. It came with one giant chicken leg in the middle, and the meat just fell right off the phone. The pork curry was already; it had a slight sweetness from the tamarind paste. Rice is extra and they have jasmine or sticky rice for your options.
Delicious chicken khao soi and the staff are fantastic.
Great customer service. Good authentic thai food
Very friendly staff and the food is fire. Tastes like home cooking. My new favorite spot.
Adorable little eatery! Service was so quick and the food was uniquely delicious. They were extremely kind and I'll definitely be back :)
No vegetarian option and some in our party left hungry. Tons of plastic waste.
Personally I have to say Amphai is the most authentic Thai restaurant in Thai Town. I am obviously biased because I spend a lot of time in Chiang Mai and my favorite food in the world is Northern Thai food. The first bite of the ไส้อั่ว & น้ำพริกหนุ่ม just tastes so familiar it immediately took me back. (Northern Thai sausage and chilli paste, respectively.) Northern food is best enjoyed with friends tapas style, so please try their whole spread! The shop is cozy, quaint, and the folks are so nice. I will constantly be coming back and bringing many visitors!
Delicious, authentic food prepared with love! Although a very small space, it was filled with positive energy. Only 4 stars as the ambiance/decor is a bit lacking.
Some of the best food ever to be eaten by anyone anywhere
Great tasty northern thai food
reasonable price
Quick service
Canteen style serving
Great khao soi and crab fermented papaya salad
👌
I had the papaya salad and number 2 (noodle curry with beef). Divine. I wanted to take a picture now but it's too late. 😊 Soooo good. Sell lots of ingredients here too!
Absolutely Fabulous Thai. Paper plates, Formica tables in the parking lot, AMAZING food, unique flavours, very friendly staff. I wish I was staying in LA longer so I could try more things off the menu.
Incredible service, delicious food, totally genuine atmosphere, love this place! Take your out of town friends here. They gave us free jackfruit!
Good customer service but limited options even mild food to spicy , no options for vegetarians, same price for a nice Thai Resturant . When the food was ridiculously to spicey we had to pay for it anyway . No option . Rice $3 and they didn’t even have more for our meal . Over priced for prepared location . I think if you are Thai and like crazy spicy food . Otherwise I would go there … limited option tgat where not great
Amazing place at very affordable prices.
The food in this small restaurant is amazing and as authentic as it gets.
They have a good variety of dishes, all freshly cooked daily.
Highlights were the Som Tam, Pork Curry, crispy pork belly and smoked aubergine.
The owner offered us some freshly cut jackfruit as pudding.
If I lived in LA I would be here every week.
Rico y economico ❤
Loved the service and the Egg Noodle Curry with Chicken, it was amazing!!! And great price too!
Best Thai I’ve ever had
Scammers. A 15% service charge is added at the end of the meal regardless of the number of people. There is no mention of it anywhere before.
