This place offers a mix of standard and northern-style Thai food. It has also been recognized by the Michelin Guide for three consecutive years.
Food: SUPERB. The portions are huge, and everything we ordered was tasty and authentic. Khao Soi was amazing, served with pickled cabbage, definitely a must-try. The sticky rice that came with the som tam and fried chicken was incredibly tender and fragrant.
Location: Easy to find but difficult to park. We visited on a Friday, and there was a street sweeping from 1:30–3:30 PM, so we had to park pretty far from the restaurant.
Vibe: This place has the genuine feel of a street food spot in Thailand, small, packed, and full of great food.
Service: The restaurant was extremely crowded when we visited. It seemed like they were short-staffed. We tried to get a water refill, but the staff was too busy to attend to it.
Luckily got a reservation for 2 and when we got there we were seated instantly!
The atmosphere was lively and the service was great, they were very nice.
So many things I wanted to try but since there was only 2 of us, we definitely had to limit ourselves. The roti combo was delicious! Amazing combo of the fried wings (2 whole wing pieces, basically 2 drums and 2 flats) with the yellow curry and roti together. Flavors were on point. The crying tiger and moo ping were both great choices. Love that one of them came with sticky rice, it’s a must. The sauces for them seemed similar though. Thoroughly enjoyed the Khao Soi, really liked it with the soft shell crab. If you’ve never had Khao Soi before, please ask the server to explains the side condiments! Completely enhances the flavors! We were way too full to get desserts but I’ll be back for sure to try more things because it was a wonderful Thai food experience.
Parking - street parking. Surrounding residential area has free street parking, we were lucky to find a space not too far from the restaurant.
Nothing made me love this place, but the food was good enough to keep eating. The oysters and crying tiger were the best dishes That tasted good. I did not like their version of green tea (It seemed it was made with dairy , mint and some other flavors)
The wait time was long. Even though when we got there there were only two or three other tables, we waited 32 min. When we noticed our table being skipped, we had to call someone over to take our order. The waitress came and left only one cup of water; she said she would be back, she never came back with more cups of water until more time had passed by. I’m not sure how long it took to finally get our food, but by the time it finally did our table was filled with full and empty cups which none were cleared off the table. Also the food was barely hot when it arrived. No one checked in on us. I wanted to say something about the noodles tasting undercooked.
I was excited to come try the food here because of its Michelin star status, but I personally did not see how they had earned that.
Even getting the bill took long.
Just finished an incredible meal at this tiny Thai place in Long Beach. Wait times can be very long, but there are a few bars nearby you can hang out in while you wait for your table. We ordered quite a few dishes and none of them disappointed. Stand outs were the spicy mama noodles and the Khao Soi chicken soup. Only negative was that the chicken in the dishes was a bit overcooked as they primarily use white meat. Highly recommend and would love to go again.
This is a Michelin-rated restaurant and for good reason: The food is delicious! Everything is so flavorful! Get here early or else you'll wait in a long line. The food pics speak for themselves! Make a point to trying their food but they don't take reservations so you'll just have to get their before everyone else does. Try the Khao Soi. It's amazing!
A good Thai restaurant with an exquisite and cozy interior. The menu design is thoughtful and well-crafted, showing the effort they put into it. I ordered Pad Kee Mao, BBQ Pork & Crispy Pork Noodles, Thai Iced Tea, and Moo Sahm Chan Tod Nam Pla (Fried Marinated Pork). Everything was delicious and above average, though the flavors leaned a bit on the sweeter side. The portions were small, and while no dish stood out significantly, it’s still worth trying if you’re in the area.
Came down from the valley to check out this place. I heard only great things about it and it definitely lived up to the hype! Honestly, everything sooo delicious and flavorful. It was hard to pick a favorite. But we got the fresh oysters to start, we were flavored Thai street style. Then we got Khao Soi Noodle Soup with Thai sausage, the Roti Combo and the Chiang Rai Pork. All great big portions! Next time I’m in Long Beach, I’m coming back :) Just a tip, prepare to wait a bit for a table. But they text you when your tank is ready. My friend and I got boba in the meantime.
It's the place you should come visit at least once if you want to try something different. They have pretty authentic Northern Thai food.
Came on Sunday 20 mins before the restaurant openned with party of 3. There was already a long line. We're lucky enough to make the cut and got the last table for the first round. Otherwise, we'll need to wait for at least another hour.
Plenty street parking.
I am highly confused as to how this restaurant earned a Michelin star. The food is mediocre at best and for the crazy wait times it just doesn’t justify it. The chicken wings and khao soi fried rice were one degree lesser than what would classify as burnt, so dry and flavourless. The crying tiger although good was nothing extraordinary. The Nam prik ong was so boring and lacked flavor. I just can’t justify the crazy wait times for a restaurant service such subpar food.
This was our second time trying to eat here. We had to wait about 20 minutes for Sunday lunch. We were turned away Saturday night 1.5 hours before closing due to long waiting time.
Lastly, while the servers are friendly they are not attentive. The only time they came over was to say last call. Our fried rice which we intended to eat with the ground chicken dish arrived so late that we were just about to ask for to go boxes for the rest of the food. Had to take the entire thing home after just one bite. Poorly managed.
The oysters were a standout among a variety of excellent items chosen by my group. This little spot is special.
Must go to!! Love this place. Northern Thailand cuisine in a great environment. Smaller space and no reservations but wonderful
Zagat guide restaurant. Average food. Crowded space. We went for lunch. Nothing special. Nothing bad

Great place. Khao Soi is amazing.
Most wonderful food, consistent quality. The service is super friendly and caring. Tables are a bit close to each other, but maybe that's just me.
.
They serve, to my best knowledge, authentic Thai food, so be warned: They offer four levels of hotness - mild, medium, spicy, and very spicy - and even though I am used to and like spicy food, even "medium" turns out to be a challenge for my guts later on.
.
I decided that "mild" will do for me at honestly great Chiang Rai. It's truly a great place. Oh, and they even offer decent wines!
A gem in Long Beach!
The service was quick and professional, the decor is super cute but the star of the show is the food!
I went to Thailand a couple of years ago and Chiang Rai is the real deal. Delicious, superb and excellent 💕
The Kao soi was phenomenal, as was the pad kee mao. The green curry was also good, but the appetizer of roti and curry was amazing. Make sure to get the kao soi next time you go! But beware of spice - even with a decent spice tolerance, we were barely able to handle medium.
Our favorite Thai restaurant in our area! The khao soi is very similar to our favorite Thai in NYC. Super friendly service and the food is so delicious. We started coming here before it got really popular so if you come, expect a line. But totally worth it! Thank you Chiang Rai family for always being so kind to us despite being super busy now and always providing such amazing food and cool music!
This place lived up to the hype (and Michelin guide). I ordered the khao soi noodle soup with softshell crab. My friends ordered the same with tofu and spicy sausage. All addon items were great. The soft shell crab was very soft and fried very well. The khao soi broth was rich and flavorful but not overwhelming. The egg noodles were at the ideal texture and the veggies accompaniments.
We also ordered the chang rai platter that included shrimp blanket, egg roll, crab cheese wonton and crispy gyoza. All fried very well and tasty along with the sauces that it comes with. The roti with yellow curry was also great. The curry with the roti was very good and the roti was nice n soft and flaky from the frying. Unfortunately they didn't have mango sticky rice but that's more of a seasonal availability. But we ended up ordering the white coconut ice cream that was very delicious.
Overall the staff was very nice and attentive and made suggestions based on what they felt was popular or to our tastes. There are so many items to try at this restaurant that it'll take a couple of visits.
This place gets very crowded so I suggest visiting at an off time for optimal waiting time. Or else you could be looking at an hour at least on the waiting list at prime meal times.
Had Khao Soi noodles and it was very authentic, very close to what I actually had in Chiang Mai.
As soon as we were sat down a server brought a sauce with flatbread, unsure what it was. We assumed it was complimentary as we had just been sat down. No one had came to take check in on us yet when another server comes back mad asking if we ordered it, scolded us for trying it and quickly took it away. We were confused and just thrown off by the rudeness. It soured the rest of our experience.

Had lunch and the specials were good. Tight space so you eat fast but they don’t rush you. A great mix of people there too. Will try house specialties next time.
Make sure to arrive there what time because it does get packed and it is a small restaurant but it’s so worth it. Everything we turned on the menu was top-tier. Definitely a must check out.

I placed an order online for pick-up, but when I walked in to pay they said they do not accept Amex. Sadly, I walked out without any dinner and likely won't be going back.
Love this place.
The food was simply amazing! There was a 40 minute wait since it's a small location with a lot of people trying to eat there, but it was worth it when I actually got to eat my pad see ew and spring rolls. I def recommend!
Chicken Satay is good,Pad Thai chicken is Ok but not enough chicken in there, just thin slices of chicken 😒, Green curry chicken is good but not enough rice to eat with the sauce😒 But one thing not professional at all ,We ordered main dished for 2, but the food didn't come together. I ate half of my food, before my partner got his food. They may have got the Michelin guide for the food but not for sevice🙄
I give this place props for the long lines outside so there must be dishes that are good. My experience wasnt that good. Im a big fan of tom yum& tom ka kai soup that is tamarind tangy. Chiang rai is sweet sugarry. Not good at all. My wife also said her noodle soup was way too sweet. Mite not go back ever again.
Great to see thai restaurant keeps its taste and flavour like in Thailand. We were luckily arriving at the open time so no wait for us. Warm greeting and brought straight to table. All dishes we had all delicious. 😋 Highly recommend.
Food was amazing, can't wait to go back
My favorite place to get Thai in Long Beach. The taste and quality ingredients are unparalleled! Perfect whether or not you’re a vegetarian. Highly recommended!
Great vide, food was over salted and the drink too sweet. Better food just a few blocks away at Long Beach Thai. Maybe the Pad See Ew or their version of Curry Noodle Soup were bad options but definitely had better. The curry wasn't particularly well balanced and was overpowered by what may have been cumin. The place was packed, but I don't understand all the hype.
I ordered a takeaway and I could immediately tell the food was something special. Plus there was a line of people waiting just in front. So it certainly is a favorite and trending place in the area. Unfortunately, the Gyoza was burnt and the sauce in spicy thai basil eggplant was a bit sweet to me. Next time I will ask for mor spicy!

This place was really hyped up and it was just another Thai place honestly
Long wait time and very salty food. This is far from delicious
Omg this place was ridiculously good. Definitely worth the wait, anything you get looks delicious, I'm only sad we didn't have a bigger group so that we could try more things. It is a small location so be aware.
They close for a couple of hours in the day and then begin dinner service so plan accordingly. Parking was bit of a hassel but didnt struggle too much. Definitely a tough place to beat for Thai food, hope to be back soon
很不错的thai,最好提前排队预约
Truly, excellent Thai food and the mango sticky rice is to die for the service was great very speedy and the servers were very nice
Best Thai food I've had in a very long time. I had the Khao Soi with soft-shelled crab. Outstanding . Also, the best Pad See Ew I've ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection. Magnifique!
Parking is zero. So you have to take Uber or find it in the street. I don't know how long beach city gave them a license to open. However once you get here the food is excellent. I will be going back to try other dishes. The staff is super friendly and the lovely ladies have beautiful smiles. The 3 star represents the parking issue and not the food or service.
Outstanding dishes and worth the wait.
Incredible place. Best thai food I've ever had. And I've been to thailand before. I was in Bangkok for 3 weeks and had delicious foods. Nothing compres to the food i had here at Chiang Rai.
This is an amazing place that’s got a long line for a good reason: great food!
The steamed Branzino was $42 but it was definitely worth it. Not only it was presented beautifully (see video) and tasted amazing, we brought left over soup and bones and enjoyed more at home!
Crab fried rice, served with generous amount of real crab meat, delicious!
Roti with curry sauce and midnight chicken, served as a combo and I can have them all day, everyday!
Service was friendly and prompt. Long lines moved fairly quickly, no more waiting at around 1:30 so we might come back for a late lunch.
Seatings are pretty tight, not much room between tables, reminds me of restaurants in Paris, ha ha.
Parking might be challenging, we were lucky to find a spot in the nearby neighborhood.
First time I tried the food I was hooked. Love the quality and the owner is as nice as they get.
Great customer service and delicious food.
Absolutely delicious food.
We dined in yesterday waited for an
Hour and half.
We had some of the obvious plates, there like fried rice etc … they were good , then came the specialty fried Branzino fish was so small by the time he got to our table there was not much left from it.
Stick with usual menu and you will be fine.
The best Thai food in town!!
อาหารลำทุกอย่างจ้าว ลำแต้ๆ
The food is good but the price is too high for the quality provided .
Took 1.5 hours for delivery. Food wasn’t warm.
Not sure how this was Michelin starred. Some items were excellent but not everything.
Interesting variety of Thai food.
The flavors of the food gave me dejavu of previous trips to Thailand.
The staff was nice and helpful but they got busy that they forgot one of our orders and we had to remind them. It was already getting cold when we got it otherwise the food still tasted good.
I came here with some friends and I absolutely loved the food! each dish was unique in its own way. Every bite was flavorful, had the right texture, and kept me wanting more!
The line does get long so I recommend coming in early, before the restaurant opens. We came about 15 minutes before opening and there was already about 10 parties ahead of us. In fact, we were the last group to be seated before the seating became full. The manager was really nice and let us squeeze 6 to a table of 4 so that our friend could catch his flight.
Apparantly this restaurant is Michellen recommended. If youre in the local area, do stop by. The food is a treat your tastebuds wont forget!
Chiang Rai Thai Restaurant in Long Beach, offers an authentic and delightful experience for Thai cuisine enthusiasts. The restaurant is known for its warm ambiance and attentive service, making it a welcoming spot for both casual dining and special occasions. The menu features a wide array of traditional Thai dishes, including flavorful curries, aromatic stir-fries, and well-executed pad Thai. The Tom Yum soup is a standout, with its perfectly balanced tangy and spicy flavors. The freshness of the ingredients shines through in every dish, and the presentation is consistently appealing, I highly recommend the Tom Kha Seafood and Steamed Branzino In Spicy Lime Chili, and also for dessert the sesame balls with coco nut milk.
Be prepare to wait for around 40 minutes minimum.
Best Thai restaurant in SoCal Iv had to date and will be very hard to compete. Iv never left a review on a restaurant but this place deserves more recognition. Yes you’ll probably have to wait since their capacity is 42 but it’s worth it!
I recommend the soft shell crab khao soi!
It’s a long wait time usually because the food is so amazing! Excellent service and food. Definitely a hidden gem that you can easily drive by. All the dishes are flavorful and the desserts are just as good.
Ordered the fried marinated pork, yellow curry, pad see ew, Tom yum Kai, mango sticky rice and the fried banana with coconut ice cream.
Fave was the thai green tea and the dessert. The khaoi noodles and waygu boat noodle soup were ok. Maybe my expectations were swayed by the Michelin mentions. Overall I think its a solid B experience. Wish they had other mains without noodles or rice -- something more carb friendly than salads. Went on a Thursday night and the wait was not long. The restaurant is small and the fresh coconut drink looked good.
(Weekends) If you are not planning on eating right when the doors open, then make sure you are in the queue 1-1.5 hours before you plan on eating.
Food is all well executed Thai cuisine. San Diego is fraught for even decent Thai food, so this is worth the trip if you live down there. Is it anything special? Not particularly, but it's well done. I would visit again if I had an itch for Thai food.
For those wanting to try something new, I would recommend the orange juice matcha drink. The orange juice and matcha combination works surprisingly well; it's a bright drink with a matcha undertone and aftertaste.
Zero star. I suspect the restaurant bought their way into Michelin Guide and also paid off influencers to fill their greed. There's no way the food can justify the 3hr wait and they still serve takeout people until last call of the kitchen. They have 1 waiter waiting tables while having 2 staff to pack up takeout orders!?!? They clearly prioritize takeout to make the most money and ignore dine in people. We put our name on waitlist at 6:45PM, got seated at 9:15PM and the waiter told us it's kitchen last call (whaaattttt?!?). Food is mediocre at best. The most basic dish of crying tiger, the tamarind sauce is too sweet and sad we can't even fathom the justification for Michelin Guide. Waste of time and money!!!! Please take this off the Michelin Guide and don't fulfill their greed anymore. Absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous!
Amazing food, but be prepared for a 60-90 minute wait for to go orders if it's dinner time. Dining room is a bit chaotic with people waiting around to order, feels stressful rather than relaxed. The staff probably feel it too.
I got the soft shell crab noodles. Woke up with food poisoning and projectile everything from both ends.
So good!! Can’t wait to come back. Got the soft shell crab in yellow curry and mango stick rice. Delicious food
Michelin Recommended and for good reason! This place more than exceeded our expectations! We got there and waited about 30 minutes because there was a waitlist. The inside was decorated beautifully and gave a very Thai street feel which I can appreciate because I have been to Thailand so when I walked in, I knew it was the real deal! Once we were seated, we ordered a Thai Green Tea, the Fresh Oysters Thai Street Style, the Crabmeat Fried Rice, Yellow curry Roti, Fried Chicken, Moo Sahm Chan Tod Nam pla and the Khao Soi Noodle Soup with Soft Shell Crab.
First, the Thai Green Iced Tea was amazing! Freshly made! The Fresh Ousters Thai Street Style were actually so freaking delicious! I would come here and keep ordering them if I could! They needed no add ones and were perfectly seasoned! The Crab Meat Fried Rice was also delicious! With such good flavor and made so fresh! It was one of the best fried rices I’ve ever had! The Yellow Roti Curry Fried Chicken was also good and had amazing flavors but defines not the star of the show. The Moo Sahm Chan Tod Nam pla (Fried marinated pork belly, homemade tamarind sauce) was cooked so perfectly and paired so well with the tamarind sauce it was heavenly! The Khao Soi Noodle Soup with Soft Shell Crab was pretty good and honestly the reason why we came but it didn’t compare to everything else we were eating.
So good and I’m so impressed! I can’t wait to come back! They’ve definitely earned their Michelin Recommendation!
Some of the Best Northern Thai food. U must get their fried chicken. OF NOTE, THEIR CURRY ROTI IS TO DIE FOR.
Excellent food, service, and casual but cute atmosphere. On a busy night, sign in for text alerts and walk a block down to get a quick beer at Long Beach Beer Lab.
best Thai food, northern
Went with two other people, the menu shows wait times for dishes which seems fantastic. I ordered a dish that said 15 minutes.
Unfortunately both people got and finished the entrées they ordered as I proceeded to wait for a total of 50 minutes. The waitress checked in around the 20 minute mark to ask about desert, at that time we informed her I still hadn't gotten my food.
She then proceeded to avoid the table for 30 more minutes. Now after waiting 50 minutes she brings it out, when asked what happened she says "It takes a long time to prepare". Then why does it say 15 minutes on the menu?
It is clear the item was forgotten by either her or the cooks, but I ended up taking it to go once it finally came, was completely ignored when I told her I didn't want the dish any longer. Still was on bill. Won't be back.
We ordered take out. We got Tom Yum soup, Khao Soi, and Pad Thai. Definitely lived up to the hype. Tom Yum is usually hot or miss at a lot of Thai places but this one was good! Sour and spicy like it should be. Loved everything else we got. Very busy when I went to pick up my takeout on Friday evening. But probably worth it.
Cute little Thai place in Long Beach, on a street corner. Has nice decor inside and I appreciated the plenty of vegan Thai options! We got vegan papaya salad, vegan panang curry, and vegan pad see ew.
They don’t take reservations so be prepared to wait a bit but it’s worth it!
Great local place for amazing Thai food. We have loved everything that we tried and the pricing is fair compared to the portion sizes. The staff is friendly and the food normally comes out pretty quick. Would definitely recommend for anyone who likes Thai food to try this place out.
The food was delicious and absolutely deserves its Michelin recognition. However, the service was terrible. We signed up for the waitlist and were seated around 8pm (waited around 30 mins), but as soon as we sat down the waitress told us we have to order everything all at once “because they close at 9.” This wasn’t a problem to us at all, except she then proceeded to bring out all of the food—including our ICE CREAM DESSERT—at the same time. When I told the waitress that the dessert would melt before we were able to finish the entrees, she just looked at me and walked away.
The waitress then brought us the bill before we even finished our entree and looked over our shoulder to watch the tip we gave her. When we left her a 15% tip, which we thought was still generous after she rudely tried to rush us out, she gave us a super dirty look. Very unprofessional.
If you don’t want to give your customers at the end of the night the same experience and level of respect as others receive, then you should close the waitlist earlier in the evening to make sure everyone can enjoy their meal without feeling rushed. I can’t believe we dropped nearly $300 to be rushed through our meals and served melted ice cream. There should be more pride in the food that you serve, especially if it’s Michelin-rated.
Our passion for Thai cuisine drives us to discover new culinary experiences. We initiated our meal with a flavorful pad Thai garnished with shrimp, but the serving size failed to meet our expectations. To quench my thirst, I opted for a refreshing Thai tea. We also enjoyed the pad see ew. However, our maiden attempt at Kano jeen ñam Ngiew was not successful. Our early dinner ended with a delectable mango sticky rice dessert.
Came here excited to try all the amazing food after seeing it on instagram, but left a bit disappointed.
1. Khao Soi. This dish was great! Very flavorful, albeit a bit small.
2. Oysters. Fine. I probably wouldn’t order it again. I was expecting spicy and tangy, but it was actually quite sweet.
3. Beef Tartare. This dish was drenched in fish sauce. So much so that it overpowered the entire dish rendering it pretty inedible.
4. Pork Belly. The cut of meat wasn’t very high quality and the pork wasn’t rendered, cut, or seasoned properly.
Service was lacking. We had to flag our server down to get water and napkins. Also, I’ve never had a server not let me hold onto the credit card machine. She literally held the machine and watched me as I tipped her for the lack of service. Nobody ever came to check on us. At least the delivery of the food came out quickly.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: would definitely come back (need to try their other dishes)!!! the flavors are amazing! There can be a long wait, but worth it! They don't take reservations. Saw lots of to-go/take-out orders! Once you're seated and order, they are quick at pushing orders out. Would recommend looking at the menu and making your choices while you are waiting.
AMBIANCE: Noise level is average. There are a good amount of tables (some close to each other), but no outdoor seating. Limited seating area while waiting.
DRESS CODE: Smart Casual
ORDERED:
- Roti Combo with the fried chicken: loved this!! fried chicken was not oily and who doesn't love roti + curry!?
- Khao Soi Noodle Soup: I don't usually have curry as my soup base, but this was delicious! We went for the sliced ribeye beef (med rare) and it was sOoOoOo good!! The egg noodles were also cooked to perfection!! The flavors were amazing!
- Mango Sticky Rice: mango was perfectly ripe!
SERVICE: Service was great!!
PRICE: ~ $30pp

Food: 5/5 stars
Service: 5/5 stars

Best food ever god bless thank you for great experience .
What can I say about Chiang Rai Thai Restaurant. This restaurant was my go to during the pandemic, I’d come 4-5 days in a row every week or so. The Best Thai Street Food Restaurant. The food is so tasty, that in 2023 and again now in 2024, two years in a row, after only been opened for a few years under the new ownership of twin sisters OH and EM, they received a well deserving “most honorable mentioned” as the best Thai Street Food Restaurant in Long Beach presented by this world renowned, most prestigious, and most esteemed, Michelin Star Food Critique Magazine. Woohoo 🙌🏼 next, the Michelin Gold Star ⭐️ please 🙏🏼. Go Chiang Rai!!!
Amazing
MICHELIN awarded “street food”
UPDATE: 7/5/2024
On recent return trip we had the pineapple stir fry rice with Shrimp and it was most pedestrian and overcooked. The rice was mushy. The Panang Curry was skimpy on protein but tasty. 2 shrimp? Only!
Original Review:
There are at least half dozen top-notch Thai food joints in South LB worth recommending. But last night was very special. Finally tried Chiang Rai after being burned by the other 2 or 3 names on the windows since May's closed (sigh) 4 or 5 years ago. WORTH THE WAIT! The popularity has obviously bloomed since opening over a year ago.
It's because the food is a huge step up from other restaurants of similar $ and cuisine, here in LB. No, in the state. Dare I say best outside of Bombay?
Dunno, BUT, if you have the discerning pallet that appreciates the long simmer or slow roast of "Grandma's" recipes, then LOVE and BLISS will fill your heart by way of your belly. You will be amazed at what's been missing in your previous experiences. As you get to about 1/3 of your plate, it suddenly hits you-twice! First, you start to feel the LOVE chef imparts, and then the heat sets in, and you're Chang Thai beer meets its purpose in life.
A fun colorful "Thai Street Food" restaurant with many excellent dishes on its colorful menu. So popular you usually need to wait a while to get a table.
Food here was delicious as previously experienced but we tried some additional different items today. As usual the crab curry was the best - a crispy deep fried soft shell crab in a yellow curry sauce was delicious as ever. The roti with yellow curry was good, like parantha with yellow curry sauce. The crab fried rice was really good, nice flavor. The Crying Tiger was the only thing not meeting expectations, we expected the rib eye to be very meaty and juicy - instead it was dry and kind of "tough", a surprise we won't repeat. Finally the Tom Yom Shrimp soup was delicious and had a lovely citrus flavor.
In general a great meal here. Recommend ordering a cold beer with the meal, it makes everything taste so good!!
It is a bustling place because the food is quite good. Therefore, there are some issues with the service. The servers seem overwhelmed. No particular atmosphere or ambiance....
3 Michelin stars 🌟
Their Khao Soi soup is heaven, heaven, HEAVEN! I crave it constantly! So much so that it is the only thing I've tried. My friends, who have tried other dishes, say they are very good. Based on how crowded the restaurant ges and that people are willing to wait an hour for a table, I'd say their food in general is excellent. The restaurant itself is small but decorated nicely. The servers/service are always good. If you want to get in without a wait, I suggest you get there when they first open!
By far the best BEST Thai place I've been to in the southern California. It's definitely better than Hannuman. Menu is way bigger. More street food and issan foods included in the menu. Tom yum soup was just perfect. Pad see yew was also great. Dry khao soi tasted great. Everything we had was just perfect. The ambiance of the store also great. Pricing of the food was also much better than hanuman. I will definitely definitely go back.
I liked the deco. Excited to try their food. But... the servers brushed me off twice when I tried to order. When I was done with the dish, even after they saw me waiting for a bill, they focused on cleaning other tables. They charged me more than the menu. Overall, a very unpleasant dining experience. Yellow curry was not so appealing. With just meat, some pieces of carrot and potatoes with tons of onion in it. Too sweet. Wet spring roll, soggy with stale oil. Yuck.
I couldn't understand why it had so many good reviews.
The food was good and so was the service. The only issue I had was how they handled the bill. They were very shady when the bill came. I charged my card was going to enter the tip amount but they entered 0% which I thought was odd. I took second look at my receipt and they automatically charged me 18% without disclosing it. The 18% wasn’t an issue but the shady practice of not disclosing it and try to rush the transaction so I wouldn’t notice was annoying. Again food good and service was good. Good thing California will passed a law making this kind of thing illegal in July.
As a Southeast person, I recommend this place. Recommend crab fried rice.
Very good Thai food. It's worth the wait. Cool atmosphere and staff were very kind and attentive.
The BEST Thai restaurant I’ve ever been in my life! We went to Long Beach for conference and found this cute local Thai restaurant which happens to be in Michelin guide. Foods were so good that we spent half of meals here. Definitely will come back and recommend to all friends! I’d say it’s the only worth trying restaurant in Long Beach area!
Went because of the Michelin recognition this restaurant received. It was busy and we luckily got there at the perfect time to grab a table before large groups arrived (not a lot of room for large groups by the way).
Spring rolls - good, the sauce was a good pairing with it.
Dry Khao Soi - good, little spicy but we enjoyed it.
Tom Yum Soup - DON’T recommend (the smell was terrible from the moment they brought it to our table, and we couldn’t get past it. Just wanted it gone unfortunately)
Had one of the Thai beers with the meal and it was light and enjoyable.
Overall, I would recommend this place but if you want to be adventurous with your order, ensure there is something on your table that you know you will enjoy. Great place to eat family style.
Best Khao soi I’ve had outside of Thailand!! I had it with soft shell crab for a second time and it was perfectly crispy and cooked. Wagyu Thai boat noodles also tastes just like in Thailand, it made me tear up from happiness. The panang and Thai fried rice were also classic and I feel like you can’t go wrong with anything you order here. The Thai tea is a little too sweet for my tastes though. The Tom kha beer though really tastes like Tom kha😵
There aren’t many legit Thai restaurants around OC, so I had to go to LB to see it for myself. The service here is friendly and patient. There was so much to choose from but I will be back to try more of their dishes. The papaya salad was bomb 💣 and the roti with the yellow curry 🔥. Mango sticky rice was on point.
Food: excellent. Actual Thai spicyness, original dishes. Service: could be better, quite a lot. Acknowledge the existence of your clients.
Amazing!! 1st visit and I know this is my new favorite Thai restaurant. Food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun & colorful.
I ordered spicy and it was properly spicy, as well as being the best Thai food that I've ever had.
Intimate, warm and whimsical ambiance. Great fast service and top notch dishes, some of the best Thai food I've had in the US
Food tasted great. We tried a few Thai dishes we have not tasted before. Everything was very good and tasty.
great food
This is tough, Michelin rated. Ordered the basic pad Thai and it was so wet, soggy and sour, not good noodle texture. Papaya salad was just ok, needs more papaya. Crispy pork is tender but not so crispy and fat! Might have to try the more serious entrees.
Really the best Thai places are still in Thai Town? Hands down!
The food is authentic and good. I tried the Khao Soi curry noodle with chicken in mild. It was good: creamy, a tad sweet, not spicy at all. The crispy egg noodles on top give a good crunch. I will get this again with the deep fried soft shell crab. This is craveable.
They have a good lunch special on weekdays!
Their Thai tea was sweet and strong. The ambiance is so pretty.
Highly recommend getting the crispy roti with yellow curry, papaya salad, and the khao soi noodle! If you like Thai tea, it’s a must!
Definitely gets busy so come early to be seated as all party members must be present!
Missing food in the order delivery. Said they would get back to me and didn't. Called a few times. Facebook messaged them for an update and didn't respond.
Delicious well made food. Stir fries could have had a bit more wok char but everything was delicious. Really appreciate the vegan friendly menu too
My favorite Thai place in Long Beach! Khao Soi noodles was super tasty. Noodles are soft, good quality meat and the soup was rich and creamy! I used to live in Chiang Rai for 4 years and this dish reminded me of the good old times in Chiang Rai.🥹 Also Chiang Rai Larb was super good! It’s spicy and I love it! Highly recommend this place for who ever comes to Long Beach!
A small warm space with incredible food and environment that made for a good night out. Left happy and full 😊
Food, absolutely delicious. Probably best Thai in Long Beach imo.
However, everything else was lacking which was surprising given the Michelin recommendation. Service feels like they’re just trying to turn as many tables as fast as possible. Server didn’t introduce themself and expected our whole order right when we sat down.
We ordered apps and half way through eating we ordered mains and those were delivered about 5 minutes later while we still were eating appetizers.
Atmosphere is cute and lively. Good decor. My only negative was the setup with thin paper napkins that fell apart right away and crappy take out chop sticks. Again just things I would’ve expected more from such a popular place because surely they can afford to elevate a bit in some areas
Apps: roti and egg rolls
Main: dry Khao soi and panang curry
Dessert: mango rice
Drinks: 1 beer 1 sake
All food 5 stars and definitely going back.
Sooooooooooooo good. And unique
Best Kao Soi I’ve found in Long Beach!
Highly recommend! Be sure to get the Soft Crab Khao Soi and Roti with Yellow Curry. The place is busy even on weekdays evening. It is better to make a reservation in advance or waitlist use Yelp.
This was great. Interesting flavors and reasonable prices. Best Papaya salad I've had
Kao soi, boat soup noodle. Amazing.
Finally made it over to Chiang Rai Thai restaurant in Long Beach and we are so happy that we did. The food is absolutely delicious. We had a tasty lunch there everything that we ordered was great. We will definitely go back and we cant wait to see you there enjoying the food as well.
Got the Khao Soi rice dish. Was very flavorful. Had the yellow curry previously and would recommend both.
My husband and I were visiting LA and decided on Thai for dinner. This place, with its rave reviews and Michelin star, shot to the top of the list. At 8pm and with a handicap placard, street parking wasn’t too hard to find, but I can see how parking would be a real headache earlier in the day.
Anyway, as soon as we walked in, we were immediately charmed by the atmosphere and decor of the place. So contemporary and modern! LOVED all of the color on the walls! There were already about 10 people waiting, so we added our names to the iPad and settled in to wait. This place is obviously popular, especially on a Friday night, because that door never stopped opening to admit more people. All of whom waited for their chance to eat, which I think also speaks to the quality of the food. We waited about 20 minutes or so before being seated at a two-top by the window.
The menu is packed with a ton of familiar Thai foods in addition to a few items I hadn’t heard of, like the Khai Soi. The menu described the dish as a “northern Thai curry noodle.” I mean, I’m a sucker for Thai curry and noodles, so there wasn’t really a question of forgoing that for something else that I can get at a Thai place near my house. I also ordered a plate of the dumplings.
I don’t mean to exaggerate, but that soup (think a red curry ramen-type dish) changed my brain chemistry. Based on a google search, it’s not common on most menus and it can vary wildly in quality, but I think I’ll be ordering Khai Soi whenever I find it because this bowl was amazing. The bite on the noodle was perfect. The red curry had a silky soup consistency without losing anything that you love about red curry. I ate every bite with a small on my face and a little dance at being on the receiving end of something so delicious. I know I sound crazy, but a red curry soup on that cold night after a long travel day was exactly what I needed.
The dumplings were nothing to write home about and I regretted ordering them. My husband ordered the beef fried rice and said that he enjoyed it, but didn’t think it was any more remarkable than our local Thai spot. Having said that, I thought it was also delicious.
Service was super quick once we sat down, and for as busy as the serving staff were, we didn’t want for any refills of our drinks at all. I would have liked to taste whatever dishes they served to earn their Michelin star, but nothing was noted on the menu. That may be something to ask a server about, if you’re interested.
Visit! You won’t regret it - just come prepared to search for parking and to wait for your turn at a seat.
Khao soi curry noodles are so good. Got it with chicken and the flavor was delicious. Other food was good too, but the salad rolls were not my favorite. Tea comes in individual pots, not a pot for the table. Service was a bit slow but seems like they were short staffed and the restaurant was very full for a weeknight. Lots of vegetarian options. Street parking can be hit or miss
This establishment is located in the city of Long Beach, California. After spending some time digging for some vinyl at fingerprints music. I asked the guy behind the counter if he knew about some good thai food close by. He recommended "Chiang Rai" for its authenticity. I am super delighted that I was able to find out about this place. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this place & I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND Chiang Rai TO ALL LBC LOCALS OR VISITORS PASSING BY! I had a regular thai tea & my girlfriend had the green tea thai tea. We started off with some egg rolls. Then we ordered the Spicey "shrimp" fried rice (shrimp on the side), as my significant other is vegetarian. This allowed me to order the "Tom Yum shrimp noodle soup" and just add the additional shrimp to my broth. The more shrimp, the better, right? RIGHT! My girlfriend proceeded to order the "pad see ew" with vegetables instead of protien. We were both able to comfortably share the spicey fried rice, pad see ew noodles, & egg rolls. The highlight for me was the Tom Yum shrimp noodle soup (spicy level). The broth was out of this world delicious ( i didn't need to add anything to it). As a matter of fact, everything was enjoyable. I have no complaints & will definitely be coming back. The environment was very lively and diverse. This is a place that is welcoming to all people who truly enjoy good comfort food.. I couldn't help but notice how quickly this place got packed on a Tuesday! The surrounding tables all had different entrees! This pretty much spoke volumes to me. I correlated how much everyone was liking their specific entrees of choice. Which i interpreted as, everything must be sooo good. We spent about $75 dollars for everything i mentioned above and left a generous tip because of the awesome food and hospitality. I can not wait to return and try a little bit of everything next time. Thank you for having us, Chiang Rai!
This is from a person who never liked Thai food before this. Ive had the Khoi soi soup with shrimp tempura and crab. The sweet roti , crab cheese wontons pineapple curry mussels and Thai tea. All so good and flavorful . I will say this now one of my favorite restaurants now!
