Wonderful experience with delicious food at Tamarind Thai Food this evening in La Mesa, California. Everything from the appetizers, main dishes, and desserts were very flavorful and the staff were all helpful and friendly.

I have no doubt this place had changed management and cooks. I used to enjoy and came here regularly prior to covid shutdown. I made a return again yesterday and found no Asians in the establishment. The food did not taste like Thai flavor dishes. My usual squid pad thai noodles was mostly packed with noodles. I went thru the entire dish and counted 5 small size pieces of over cooked chewy squid. There was barely any green onions or beansprouts. It tasted very bland. The chicken fried rice had other colored rice included. Not much proteins. It was also very bland. The tom kha soup was extra sweet with not much of lemongrass flavor or the lime leaves.
Overall, their food do not taste like Thai foods. Extremely disappointed! That will be my last time ordering there.

This has to be my favorite Thai restaurant in San Diego. I’ve been to Thailand several times and the flavors coming out of this kitchen are spot on! The food is always consistently good and loaded with flavor. They have great options for vegetarians too!

Two of my favorite dishes here are the Cashew Nut and their Khao Soi. They have great portions sizes too! I would highly recommend stopping by!

After a long day at work, we stopped by to grab a late dinner. Even though we got there 50 minutes before closing, they were super attentive and welcoming. We ordered the papaya salad, yellow curry with chicken, and another entree. They were so delicious, I wish I would’ve taken a picture haha. Then as we left, we were offered a small dessert (we felt bad since we had come in so late) but honestly that treat was the cherry on top!

We will be back (earlier than this time haha) but it was an absolute delight being able to come here for dinner and enjoy our meal in a welcoming environment.

My wife and I have been coming here for many, many years and we have always enjoyed the meals here and the service.

Average Thai cuisine. Maybe the quality was poor because it was almost closing time. Noodles were overdone and sticky, red curry was good. I might try them one more time but earlier in the day. Can’t comment on service since we ordered take out.

Haven't been here in years and was in the area so I decided to grab their lunch special. So good!

If you enjoy eating a meal so sweet that it tastes like candy, then this place is for you. I have a few go-to spots for great Thai, but I was in the neighborhood and tried out the pad see ew just "a little spicy." It was so sugary that I threw it out after a few bites. I know this dish is often sweetened, but it was REALLY sweet, like dessert sweet, and if it contained eggs, I couldn't find them. The inside of the restaurant is clean and nicely situated, and the staff were attentive and friendly, but the food ... pass.

The last two times we have eaten there, the service has been deplorable. Tonight, they forgot my order while food was served for the other three at our table. I couldn’t partake in the shard Ed food as it’s too spicy so I waited. Halfway through their meal we found out they forgot it. That’s not all. The last two times, never did our waitress stop by the table to ask us if all was ok or if we needed anything……. Water at the least.
I don’t know what’s going on here lately with their service. The foods good but unless they correct their young waitress to actually wait on tables,I doubt I’ll eat in again.

How is it possible that I have 3 different times attempted to call in an order and been forgotten on the phone? I get it. Things can get busy. But come on.

Jerky was like the boiled the meat and there was no flavor. The iced coffee was watered down and muted flavor. The pad thai had a fish taste and the red curry at 1 spice was too spicy to eat.

The lunch special includes a fantastic soup and salad, so keep that in mind when choosing appetizers. The satay, featuring curry, was exceptionally tasty and served piping hot. The warm peanut sauce added a nice touch. While the fresh rolls were decent, they didn't come with the same peanut sauce as the satay, which was a bit disappointing. I ended up using the satay sauce, which was really good.

For the main course, I opted for the spicy noodle (drunken noodle) special, and it was quite delightful. I'd rate it a 4.7 (would have liked bell peppers, and the portion was relatively small). I requested a spice level of 8, and they absolutely nailed it. This is impressive because often, when you ask for an 8, it turns out more like a 4. However, this place got the spice level perfect.

Got the Pad Thai, it was average, noodles weren't too firm and broke easily when I picked them up with a fork. The chicken was dry and lacked flavor. It was a pretty big portion of food and I wasn't able to finish it all but it wasn't too bad, inside was nice a cool, it was mostly clean and the place is pretty small but overall it was an alright place,

The Mango sticky rice, did not disappoint! Best I’ve had so far!

It's been awhile since I ate here, I tried a few different things. Spice Level 3 was good, I had no issues with anything.

Worst food ever!!!!

We got green papaya salad, mixed vegetables and eggplant with basil to go. All threes dishes were great with flavorful sauces and reasonably priced for the size. We will be ordering from there again without hesitation. We chose number 2 for spice level and I would not go any higher. It had nice heat but not to the point of overpowering me or my kids. Even my kiddo who does not like vegetables noted that after this meal he will eat them more. (He is like Mikey from those old commercials)

If I am anywhere near this place I will drive out my way to eat here. It is so flavorful and delicious. We love the peanut sauce and curry. The Thai iced tea is a must have as well.

I was served spoiled overcooked pork, there were tiny holes all throughout the meat. My wife’s chicken was flavorless and overcooked as well. I’ve never in my life left food on my plate at a restaurant. But this place is absolute trash I’m sorry to say it. Workers were polite but this is the worst food I have ever been served. Also we get calamari at every restaurant that serves it. This wasn’t calamari that they served. It was also 10 dollars for 7 littles pieces of pig skin or whatever they were calling calamari.

I ordered via Grubhub. It’s normally very tasty. My spicy noodle was all gummie and crumbled pieces. I got medium spice , but it was clearly way hotter than that. I usually is great. There was no way to rate this on grubhub..,,, who delivered 20 minutes late.🙁

This was for a called-in take-out order. The food was excellent and the people who waited on me were great! But, I waited in the restaurant for 20 minutes longer than the time they quoted me over the phone. Just tell me it's going to take longer so I'm aware of the optimal time to leave my home to pick up the food.

I had dinner with a friend. I choose this restaurant because my friend is vegan. I had sizzling salmon with wild rice. It was excellent. I don't remember what my friend had. She seemed to enjoy her meal and said I made a good choice.

The price was quite reasonable. My only caution is the sauce was spicy. The server ask 1 to 10 how hot I wanted, I said 6. Next time I'll say 4.

So disappointed. This used to be our favorite place but for the past 2 years it has been inedible. They changed their spice rating from a scale of 1 - 10 to just mild, medium, or hot. They put zero spice in their curry if you ask for mild and it is bland and terrible. If you ask for medium or even say you want it just a little bit spicy they put the order in as medium or mild and it is unbearably hot at medium or not hot at all with zero flavor if mild. Will be finding a new go-to Thai place asap as this place has been consistently horrible for a while now no matter what we say when we order and we will not try again.

The Minute I walked in I was helped immediately by a very polite and extremely friendly employee named Fonny! Honestly made me feel extremely welcome even though I came in as they were closing and even offered me a cup of water while I waited. This is my first experience and first time ordering from this restaurant but I will definitely be back because of the excellent service! Fonny is such a delightful person and is the main reason I would return! Thank you so much!

Absolutely amazing food. We had a variety of things - golden money bags, fried wontons, calamari, pad see ew, pad thai, fried rice, lemon fish, and thai iced tea.. none of it was a disappointment. It was all full of flavor and massive portions. We took our food in a to go box and that can last us at least one or two more meals. They informed us they use real Thai chili’s to do their spices which is impressive. Most places use powders but you know this place is legit when they use real chili’s!!

The employees were attentive with constant drink refills. We had a big party and they came to check on us constantly. They went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied with all of our drinks and meals. The two girls we had were very friendly and made our experience wonderful!

This is the best thai restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. Thanks for a great meal.

Well first impression going in is that it's a quaint little place. Then we're greeted by Foony our server. This woman had 70% of her face covered by a mask but her huge smile shined thru immediately making me and my best friend smile big as well. She was sooo sweet and very attentive. The food was on point! Especially the chicken wings. I was tempted to eat the bones . I even ordered food to go for dinner including more chicken wings

You guys need to pay more attention on your orders. I ordered vegetable yellow curry spicy and the pad thai noodles with no spice. What we ended up getting was the curry with no spice and the noodles spicy. My little brother was not able to eat because it was too spicy and ended up having to throw it away. 2nd and last time going here.

Prices on all items were $1.50 to $3.00 more than listed on Google and on Uber eats online menus?! When I questioned it they said prices hadn't been "updated"...and then said they are giving one extra piece in the fresh roll order now (which was a lie)...not cool. They should post the correct prices..especially when higher thank TWO online menus I checked..won't be going back again

Everything I've eaten there has been excellent! The flavor, the spices are all a perfect blend to give the various dishes their own distinct flavor! Tamarind Thai has quickly become one of my absolute favorite Thai restaurant in the San Diego area! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! The amount of money I marked does not include the tip I left. The prices are very reasonable considering the excellent taste of the food! Their Thai Ice Tea is also delicious!

Hands down the best pad thai in all of San Diego. I've lived in OB, normal heights, lemon grove and north county and still always come back to this place.

Spring rolls are immaculate. Tom Kar amazing. Golden Bags are the greatest appetizer you'd be lucky enough to stumble across. And I cannot emphasize enough, THE BEST PAD THAI IN SAN DIEGO.

I don't even live close anymore but will always make the trip for this place. Maximum stars.

Fast excellent service

I ordered the Spicy Noodles with tofu and extra vegetables at a level 5 spiciness through DoorDash. The dish was not spicy at all and almost no flavor. The tofu was burnt and the dish included several types of vegetables not included in the description including green beans, cauliflower, and snap peas.

When I lived in the area 4-5 years ago, I use to order from Tamarind a few times a month. Sometimes it was hit or miss. Huge miss this time. I won't be ordering here again.

What a waste of $40. The beans in there hot basil seems like its a month old. Spicy noodles tasted nasty overcooked and burnt. The tea is filled with ice very little tea and the spring rolls are very tiny. Customer service is horrible. Never again will I come back to this place.

I would rather tell you in person, and I did to the people here; thank you. I've not much to say of a grain of what is rice in comparison. The hands that prepared it put their touch to it. This place serves up the best Thai food. The owners are very nice and get food to us super fast. Being vegetarian in East county is not easy but most of their dishes can be made with tofu so I don’t have to limit myself to a tiny section of the menu like every other place I go. Tamarind Thai is my go to spot for delicious fast Thai!

The BEST Thai in all of East County. The vegetarian dishes are especially good. So good I order tofu because its prepared here In a way no one else in town has mastered

Places an order through posts mates on a dead night. Showed up to get my order and it hadn't been fired yet. When I got my food home the order that was ordered mild was extra spicy and inedible for my daughter. And my mother in law had the Panang Curry and got food poisoning from it. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place line it will kill you.

Service not good till its time for paying bills, then the waitress bother to ask you how's everything...

I ordered my food online and it was suppose to be Hot Thai Basel with chicken as the protein. Literally got only green beans and 4 slivers of chicken. I do not recommend this place if they treat online orders this way.
