The restaurant is located in a good spot with good food options. The service is very good. The food is average and could be better. I felt the fried tofu was too much fried and very dry. The vegetarian tom yum soup was good but it could have other varieties of vegetables too. As per my husband, the shrimps were nicely cooked.

ordered the fresh ginger from the wok dish with tofu they gave a choice if soft tofu or fried tofu. it was absolutely delicious and perfection in every bite. we then got the coconut ice cream which was really not good.. it was too icy with very little to no flavor. minus the ice cream this was a total five stars but the ice cream knocked off a point. the speed at which we got the food was also very impressive. also right by the beach, nothing to complain about! people were incredible servers

Ordered the flying tiger salad and it was excellent spice and lots of meat. The steak came cooked a bit too much so order med rare. Great tables with an ocean view.

Great ambiance and greater service. We stopped by La Jolla for dinner and we were amazed with the Thai food here! We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer, pad see ew with tofu for the main meal, and coconut ice cream for dessert. I really recommend the tofu. The ice cream was very light and refreshing, perfect way to end the meal. Definitely will be returning to try the drunken noodles too.

I Had the Thai fried rice with chicken and veggies. I also ordered the cashew chicken. The chicken was moist and tasty and the sauce was the perfect amount of flavor with a little heat. Will be ordering again for sure.

Super nice people and good service.Thai Tea was good, food was yummy. You can go a little higher on spice than you think depending on the food of course, keep that in mind, and the flavors worked! Good if you like Thai food or even if you don't, the menu is pretty big!! It's also reasonably priced for La Jolla AND the portion sizes are nice.

Hate to give a not so good ranking for what looks like a mom and pop restaurant. I eat a lot of Thai and this place wasn't quite there. I've never been served tough chewy tofu. Could not finish it. Sat in open area ( not quite outside) and it was cool. Only restaurant on the street without the open air heaters. My first clue was the Waitress was wearing a coat. Definitely try something besides the tofu or the satay chicken.

A little bit on the salty side but all the thai flavors are there. The noodle soup is good too. Definitely will come back again to try out the rest of the menu.

It will be hard to compare thai food from the DMV area (DC MD VA) east coast, after having thai food at this restaurant. I had the boat soup and it was phenomenal with a heat level of 7. My family and friends enjoyed their food as well. Everything was delicious as we tasted each other's dishes. The Massaman curry was very, very good! Special compliments to the chef and staff/service. View of the water good, and ample seating avail both indoors and outdoors. Maybe one day we will be back and definitely will go there again!

Aroi Thai is our favorite Sunday day date spot for Thai food. The food is so good, best Penang Curry with chicken in the county, and a perfect 8 temp. But the service on Sunday afternoon is outstanding. Our waitress makes this thai experience very special. We love this nice casual restaurant.

For the first time in this restaurant, we decided to have lunch. I’ll be honest: it’s nice to feel the taste of lemon in the water served, good presentation of the dishes, they tried. But in general: not tasty, usually. The meat that was added to my dish was old greaves and the green onions were also not fresh. I definitely won’t come again.

Food is just okay. There aren't any utensils , service plates on the tables. I don't know if this restaurant served that way or if they forgot to bring it out because when we ate calamari for appetizers, there weren't any plates , or forks, knives... We have to keep asking for it.

The place was bought by new ownership who owns the other AROI Thai. This place is one of San Diegos best Thai restaurants and one of La Jollas best restaurants and it's affordable. All of the bad reviews are of the previous ownership. I recommend Curry Puffs, Half Moon, Curry Fried Rice, Curries.

Absolutely loved our dinner. By the time I got to the Mango Sticky Rice, I tasted exactly what I was looking for and more. I ordered take out, but I was taken in.
If it was this good to-go, it must be amazing dinning in. I do have a sweet tooth at times. After this, I’m definitely going for the spice next time, probably a green curry halfway spicy.

I came here for my Father-in-law's birthday dinner on a Saturday night, and it started to get busy. Started off with Tom kha soup and half moon (cream cheese wontons). It was solid and not a single piece left on the plate. For our entree, we ordered the Larb Pla tod, Beef Pad thai and Crab fried rice and it was piping hot and delicious! Larb Pla tod is a Crispy whole fish w/chili powder, red onion, mint, cilantro, scallion, lemongrass lime leaf, roasted rice powder and spicy lime dressing. No other Thai place makes it this good!! Noodles were cooked to perfection. Good amount of protein. Spice level was just right, and you could really taste the flavors! The service is solid as well, and the prices are very reasonable.

We brought a cake to share and the Chef even came out to sing happy birthday to my father-in-law and offered him a complimentary dessert! Talk about service! A+++

Definitely give this place a try if you're looking for good Thai food! Overall, we enjoyed our meal. If we are ever in la jolla wanting some amazing Thai food, this would be our go to place!

This Thai restaurant is one of the best I have tried this is 100/10!! Staff are so friendly and if you like spicy food this place is for you. The drunken noodle had little vegetables inside, too oily, with spicy sauce still conjugated for a small part of it, lacks true Thai spice taste. There’s so many great Thai restaurants that are way more authentic in SD with more reasonable price.

I've been ordering from AROI for years - they always meet or exceed expectations and today was no different. Whether motivated by their red curry packed with layer after layer of deep, perfect, comforting flavor; curry puffs with the flakiest exterior and softest, richest filling; or fulfilling my frankly unreasonable requests for off-the-menu levels of spice, I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Bonus points for Thai Iced Tea where you really can taste both the tea and the sweetener and for a staple mango sticky rice that never disappoints.

For fans of AROI, Thai Gulf is everything you love and more.

One of the highlights of our trip to San Diego. After a long day at the beach, this was a lovely spot to unwind and refuel. Thai food is notoriously hit or miss, but this was a HIT. Pad see ew and fried rice were both wonderful. Very flavorful, seemed authentic and the spice level choosing was on point. Service was great. Highly recommend!

Oh Thai Gulf we once loved you so much but now it’s time to part ways. Our last experience here was fantastic, despite the chef forgetting one of our two dishes ordered. He made up for it in full and then some, and the service was so good we tipped the busser on the side. We trekked here from an hour away to find that the original favored dish is about half the original size, rice is an extra cost, and the chef has a major chip on his shoulder. Though the server was nice and we appreciate him trying to look out for us, we won’t be coming back. The chef decided I wouldn’t like what I ordered, and though the protein included is listed on the menu, he wouldn’t let me order it. He said I could do the shrimp, then forgot to send it out. When it came after several minutes, it was literally two shrimp that had been tossed in a pan with no flavoring at all, no garnish, nada. So we paid $15 for a sliced green mango, some dressing I practically had to bargain for, plus $3 more for my two dry shrimp. The server apologized a lot, but he also said the menu confused others as well. So, restaurant owner, fix your menu and don’t put things on it that you don’t want to serve. Sad to part with you TG, but our hard earned money will be spent elsewhere.

A centrally located place with great ambience. Unfortunately they seem to be severely understaffed having only one person to take orders, serve and clean. Poor service. Only one person was working. We weren’t asked for drinks. When we asked for water, the waiter told us to get it from the water cooler stand for self serve. The waiter wrote down wrong dish and when we asked for the right one he wouldn’t admit his mistake and didn’t correct our dish. Very slow service. Leaves my food to get cold while I am waiting on rice.My wives food is steaming hot, mine is cold . She again argues about the rice! Who doesn't get rice at and Asian restaurant??? She took my plate of food and never brought it back BUT CHARGED ME FOR IT!#!! Tired of arguing just paid the full bill. They are good for two things public restroom and directions to the Sushi place. I personally saw more of that than satisfied customers. The people before us were arguing about the bill also

The food was amazingly delicious! My daughter had the shrimp pad Thai and I had the terriaki chicken with a side of steamed rice. Fantastic!! Both the owner and our waiter came out several times to check on us and they were so friendly! If I lived here in La Jolla, I’d be eating at Thai Gulf Restaurant all the time! If only we could get their take out in Austin, TX!!

Extensive menu options, cute place. We really loved every bite- the kids, too! We walked in off the beach and were served in a regular time-frame. They checked on us to see how we liked it and apologized for the wait (another table had complained) but we said it was a perfectly fine wait- the food was amazing. AMAZING.

Great Authentic Thai food. Parents are extremely picky when it comes to Asian food. Mother is Indonesian and they used to live in Thailand and this place impressed us. Great atmosphere, definitely come here if you're feeling Asian.

This place is a hidden gem. Really great menu with all the standard Thai dishes plus some with other Asian influences. The stand out is the salted fish fried rice, but everything we have tried (silver noodles, duck, soups) is great.

What a great chef!
I was walking around the beach with a friend when we stumbled into this place and decided to have lunch. We were not expecting much at first cause of the wait for food and the restaurant's style. But we were wrong! We ordered three dishes and a dessert and they were all executed amazingly. You can tell they cook their food with love and passion and can't wait to come back.

One star for the poor girls overwhelmed by the understaffing. They didn’t have the help needed to bus tables, take orders, run food, seat tables. Every role needed to run a restaurant was put on these two girls that couldn’t meet the demand of everything asked for them to do.

We came here for dinner 2.13.2021.. Outdoor dining..a bit cold lol but they had good food. Pad see ew probably our fave since the smokiness from the wok was define into the noodles. Yum! They were backed up in the kitchen and not all of our food came at the same time. But hey its OK.

Ordered food for delivery while staying locally recently . The food was pretty good , but there was not a fork, napkin or condiment of any kind to be found. Its hard to enjoy a meal without the necessities to do so while staying in a neighboring hotel/motel. You'd think for $40 one might take care of their customers a little better. Management is void of any kind of customer service skill when brought to their attention. Never again !!!!

This family owned business literally works 24/7 and serves up the best Thai food around. Our office is across the street and we have ate here countless times.

Spicy Sweet & Sour Soup, Duck Curry, Specialty Salads, large Thai beers, etc. are all delicious.

The serving plate mini, 2 items for$ 33 dollars,the front girl so rude...

Waited for our order. Said would be brought to the car and then forgot about it. Then once we had it and were 15 mins out we get a call they gave us wrong order and needed to turn around. Frustrated but we did. Once we got our order and got to our destination to eat... to top it all off they didn’t give us any type of chop sticks fork nothing and not even a napkin. Food was meh. Overall experience was atrocious. Wouldn’t go back and nothing special about food. Customer service needs improving when they mess up.

They don't seem to have much / any indoor seating but with consistent weather that shouldn't be any sort of problem. Parking is typical for the area.

Took forever. This was my second visit to the restaurant. The first time I visited they got my order wrong and served the wrong hot pot, which was frustrating but an honest mistake and when the correct soup arrived it was delicious. A few days later when I went back it took well over an hour before I received any food - it was appalling and just so slow. Everyone in the restaurant was just waiting there with no food - they were completely understaffed and underprepared for a Saturday night service. It was so disappointing and I would never go back even if the food was good, especially as on both occasions there was no compensation offered - firstly for the mistakes with the orders - both times my order was wrong - the second time I ordered seafood pad thai and was serviced mixed pad thai with beef and chicken! It was a complete joke!

SOOO FLAVORFUL. the absolute best tom yum soup i've ever had (and I love tom yum). I love the amount of healthy options at this place: zucchini noodles pad thai! beautiful place with an outdoor patio that has heat lamps.

Ordered a green Thai curry- the rice was box was like half filled, as if they were running low on rice.
Ordered a Thai ice tea - got something with loads of sugar in it. Not sure what it was.
Ordered a Take out - no napkins, no cutlery, no nothing
Overall - terrible experience. Would not recommend!

Took forever to make and deliver the order. At least 10 people who came after us were served before us. Not courteous to even update the status. Terrible experience. Won’t recommend

Great ambiance and greater service. We stopped by La Jolla for dinner and we were amazed with the Thai food here! We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer, pad see ew with tofu for the main meal, and coconut ice cream for dessert. I really recommend the tofu. The ice cream was very light and refreshing, perfect way to end the meal. Definitely will be returning to try the drunken noodles too.
