Heading to Joshua Tree and decided to stop off and grab a bite, when the cool Zen sign caught my eye.
We had 2 sushi rolls that were pretty good. Philly and Tournament style.
Beef short ribs were juicy and fatty on a bed of white onions. No spice this time! But there was plenty on the menu.
Fries noodles were decent. With beef.
I'll def stop by again to this cute little family owned restaurant if I come through. Will be back!

Welcoming family restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious. Red and yellow Currys were some of the best in the greater Palm Springs area. We will be returning to try more dishes in their menu.

I am divided when I review this place. 1st the service is great, the waiters are attentive and cheerful. They managed a near full house when I was there. The food proportions are strange. For example, I ordered a penang beef, but I had a bowl full of onions. My partner ordered a curry, and she got a bowl full of roughly chopped green peppers. The vegetables were fresh, the spices and flavor was delicious, however the ingredients proportions were too much towards garnish. Perhaps less garnish, or smaller portions.

In fairness, I highly recommend the green papaya salad, as the dressing was sweet, not too fishy and the green papaya was fresh. Highly delicious.

If the restaurant eliminates 30% of the menu and puts a little more balance into the garnish level, food would be perfect.

So good, so fresh. Humble but great atmosphere. Salmon was lovely.

Update: 4/5/24 went here for lunch because Papaya Bay has closed down, apparently. Then I remembered this place. Got the delicious Pad Thai with jasmine green tea. Service and atmosphere were lovely.

While the service and ambiance was quite nice and hardly anyone was in the restaurant the food actually made us sick, I remember this place being really good but this time I don't think I'll be back. The food isn't fresh anymore and the ingredients aren't what they used.
The coconut milk in the soup wasn't good and made my mom throw up and really upset my stomach and the beef in the other dish definitely wasn't fresh

The best Japanese and Thai food in town. With generous portions, reasonable prices, and friendly attendant waitresses.

Food portions were very light in volume... minimal protein is served - combo plate. Edemame was not tasty, had to add salt. Overall, lacks love in food preparation, corners are cut. Very pricey for overall deliverance.

Great curries and fried rice. Also obsessed with their peanut house salad dressing. The staff is the sweetest too.

We really enjoyed the sushi rolls, appys and entrees. My husband loved the rice bowls and I loved the salmon. The wait staff is so friendly and attentive. We are regulars now.

I’ve lived in Southern California for over 3 years now. I’ve tried many different Thai places from different cities, and this place is BY FAR the best I’ve had! It was so good, I couldn’t stop eating!

My wife and I have been fans of Zen ever since we moved to the Beaumont-Banning area. We consistently enjoy both the delicious food and friendly service.

The only suggestion we have is that extending the closing hours by a bit would be a great convenience for customers like us. While the current hours work well, a little more time in the evening would be fantastic.

Worse food ever want to try this food for the first time with my mom in there was pieces of wire in the rice. Both times they gave it to us will never go again.

Highly recommend for anyone who like Asian food. This place got it all, beer, wine, sushi, Tom yum, kraprow, Boba drinks.
Only thing is they should pay money to yelp like many place has to pay, so yelp will put them up on their web.

I will say, the waitress was very very nice, dining room is quite small, a little run-down, portions are also a little small, but otherwise it was really good.

No idea why this place has 4 stars. Food had no flavor and the portions were small. We asked for several things and the waiter will say they ran out. The sushi tasted like they were premade and were days old. I hope we don’t get sick with this food.

Fairly decent Tom yam soup, I would say. Probably because the owner is a Thai. Even the sushi roll was not too bad either.

Pretty ghetto restaurant.
Service is weird and I’m pretty sure they keep ripping me off? Maybe the prices changed but she didn’t tell me the same price as the menu claimed and I wasn’t about to argue with her. So I let it go . Buuuut this place is sketchy despite the high reviews . Be careful.

Just left and I will never go back. My fire roll was warm, I couldn't eat my pad thia noodles due to odd smell and all 3 people in my party left with stomach aches. Not to mention the the staff asked to take our order three times before I asked if they would take our drink order. How is this place still open ???????

It’s really good and the variety is amazing

I ordered 4 dishes there:
# BBQ short rib was salty.
# Sizzing Combination was the opposite - very bland, also undercooked, and the chicken and beef inside were not fresh, had a weird taste.
# The sushi was not fresh either.
# The only good dish was the udon soup.

I had a stomach ache and diarrhea after having dinner there.

The two waitresses in Zen are warm and polite.

Their pad see eu is amazing. The atmosphere is eclectic, and the music can be annoying, but the food is good. This is one place I keep coming back to, even though they are a bit too expensive.

Amazing service and food! Our server was great, we are vegetarian and she made sure our food was made accordingly. She was very attentive to all the tables. The Thai food is one of the best food in the area! The dinning area in the front is a bit small and minor adjustments would make it look better. Highly recommend trying this place out.

The 3 piece bowl was Tremendous and my cousin had the green curry that was smaking and my other cuz had spicy eggplant was very good and i had the Spicy salmon roll fired was good but i ask her to make it with no spicy and they did good place good service 👍

I was driving by and saw this cute restaurant and decided to try it out I have to say that I loved the food the flavor was delicious definitely worth the price 😋😋😋 the ladies are also nice and food was fresh and fast

There was a piece of plastic/glass in my food. I had even put in my mouth. Looked like they didnt take my complain seriously. They just said sorry it was a crack from the box it was stored. And that was it.

Anyway the server was nice and it was a quiet nice place. I would recommend people to be extra careful about the food from this restaurant.

Everything we had was good. I had the tom Kah soup was sour, sweet and a little spicy . My boyfriend had the yellow curry it was sweet and spicy. He also had mango sticky rice and it was delicious. We're definitely coming back to try more, I want to try the crying tiger!

Terrible place to come to and definitely not zen environment. We were sitting for about 5 minutes and we heard the waitress being very rude to the other customers who were ordering and took their drinks away and told them to leave so we got up and left too.

Best Thai in Banning!

All restaurants in Banning and Beaumont are for folks who don’t know what gourmet foods are! Pretty much u need to drive to Palm Springs for decent food! No offence ! Really regret moving out here!

Yellow curry and spring rolls... delicious!!! 😋 Steamed rice was excellent as well. There was a miscommunication with my online order but I called and the owner assured me that my order was ready for pickup. He was very friendly when I went and said he was glad that I called. 👍

Awesome Thai-Japanese dishes!

This honestly is one of the best restaurants my wife and I've been to on a date night. The food was outstanding the service was outstanding. If you're in the area highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. There's a young lady that works there on Tuesday Saturday and Sunday. She's an amazing waitress her glasses were never empty but she made great recommendations for my healthy choice diet.

Like just about every other business in California this one is suffering from being short staffed. However the one Server was trying her hardest and for the most part she did a good job. I was a little disappointed in the udon noodles as they were undercooked and the broth didn’t have a lot of flavor to it. The spicy tuna roll sushi somewhat made up for it. If I’m ever in the area again I would give them another try

This place is a hidden gem. My partner and I are vegans. We loved the Kung Pao dish! They have great vegan/vegetarian options. The veggie "egg rolls" are actually vegan too. They even modified the Thai iced tea to make it vegan for us.

Everything was fresh and flavorful. We have eaten Thai food from all across the state and this spot is among our favorites. We love spicy food and felt the 3 was perfect. They seem more authentic than most places we've been where we order 6 or 8.

The esthetic is cute, old school, but very clean. I'm so confused by negative reviews. This is not chain, white washed food.
If we are ever in these parts, we will definitely return.

Service sucks now. We arrived at 12:25pm. They had 3 groups of people eating, less than 10, when we arrived. The hostess/waitress asked if we were eating there and she said there was a wait. “Ok, how long is the wait?” I asked. “Oh, I don’t know, most of the people just sat down.”

You should train your front end staff to anticipate the wait time for your customers so they’re not arbitrarily waiting.

This used to be our favorite place to eat when it first started but it’s going to the pits now.

The curry my dude. The curry. Ohhhhhh and the fried tofu, oh man. Good stuff. not too pricey and you can order online off their website for pick up. The staff are pleasant enough. Quality food.

My visit was a huge disappointment. Startung with the service or lackthereof. We had to order at the register before sitting down and asked for a tip even before we had any service. I refused to tip. After ordering, we were seated in a very small area confined to one space. Water and condiments were self serve. Wine was limited to two choices and not very good. Had to walk through the kitchen to get to the dilapidated restroom. I did leave an 8% tip cash on table before leaving. Will not return until service and place is more appealing and customer service improves.

Really good food. It does come in Togo boxes but the food and portions were wonderful. They have kids options too, which was nice. Will return.

They used to be good before corona hit but now everything is served in to go containers and the portions are halved and yet their prices remain the same.

If you want homestyle, good Thai food this is the spot for you! When walking in it looks and feels like a house. They are being very COVID aware so masks are required until sitting down. They have you order your food at the front and then choose the seat that you feel most comfortable in. The drinks were brought out right away and we waited about 15 minutes for our food. Everything came to the table in to-go containers with disposal plates and silverware. This is the first place I've seen do this and let me tell you it was appreciated in the environment we are in. All the food was delicious. We ordered veggie spring rolls, pad Thai, green curry, garlic and ginger chicken and Thai coffee. The servers and owners were very attentive and polite. Great service and great food!

really good! ordered take our 1st night in town not expecting too much but super happy with everything about the food we ordered. couldn't get myself to try another place on 2nd night thinking we had already struck gold and this place rocked it so well. Honestly, they must have a mom or grandma overseeing the kitchen and are kicking out lovely family recipes done in a professional restaurant setting. My hometown of Minneapolis has developed into a pretty good food scene and this place would be appreciated big time if were there...

I absolutely LOVE the food. It is delish!! However im giving four stars based on the seafood combination.
It cost just about $20. Which is always a little pricey in my opinion but when you were able to dine in they had put it in a much larger container and got a lot more for what she paid for, when delivered Or taking out they now put the seafood combo in this small tray which I can't even say is half of what they used to give when dining in, it's a little taller and wider than the size of a children's cup . I one hundred percent don't think that's a tray they put it in is worth $20. Maybe 10 and that's only because it comes with a decently size rice. Again , food is great ! But I would have given five stars if i got more for my money.

I had the Kai Kua (?) noodles with tofu and the flavor was amazing. I ordered it a level 3 heat and it was just spicy enough to make me warm up and get my blood flowing. SO DANG DELICIOUS. Food was HOT and FLAVORFUL. I will be going back.
