Mellow Thai eatery featuring floor-to-ceiling windows & traditional dishes from curries to pad Thai.
Thai Basil is an excellent spot for delicious Thai cuisine! We were very happy with the flavorful taste, generous serving sizes, and great service. Every dish we tried was fantastic, with well-balanced spices and fresh ingredients. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place if you’re in Tempe and craving authentic Thai food!
We tried the restaurant after coming from the airport and it did not disappoint. We ordered the chicken pad Thai and pineapple chicken fried rice. The flavors were so rich and delicious. The cool part was being able to customize any dish with protein options and spiciness level. We also got the pot-stickers and fried banana ice cream (FBI) and they were equally delicious. The atmosphere was very quaint and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place.
I found this restaurant on Google Maps and was intrigued by its impressive rating—over a thousand reviews and more than 4 stars. I was excited to have dinner here. I ordered the pineapple fried rice and pad thai, choosing a level 2 spiciness for both dishes, as offered by most Thai restaurants.
When the dishes arrived, they smelled fantastic. The pineapple fried rice, made with curry powder and pineapple, was particularly addictive with its mix of sour and spicy flavors. However, my friend mentioned that the rice was a bit too wet. The pad thai, on the other hand, was just okay; it lacked the bold flavor of the fried rice, and the beef was dry and tough.
Overall, the food was decent and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant's décor is also a nice touch, with plenty of elements that remind me of Thailand.
So I've had Thai Basil in California and loved it except their hot n sour soup. Came here with husband and ordered drunken noodles (amazing dish to try!) pad see ew which I had in California (love this dish especially because it's a bit sweeter) and the Thai fried rice which I would highly recommend to go with anything you order! What a ton of food that came out hot, quick, and was so good! Could not stop eating even after I was so full. The place was quiet for a Friday night, very comfortable and small restaurant but beautifully lit and very clean. Our server was so patient with us, very helpful in making selections carefully to fit our needs especially since I've had Thai food once and my husband's never had it. Even though he's never been receptive to trying it, I finally convinced him and he's ready to back and try more as am I! Highly recommend! Bill after tip for iced teas and 3 entrees was $50 and we were very happy with it!
This is one of the prettiest curries I’ve ever had. It was delicious and so so creamy and flavorful. It was loaded with meat and veggies. Only thing I would improve was to make it spicier I got the hottest they had (I eat spicy). The Thai iced coffee was amazing.
The service was good and the place clean. It was well decorated and serene.
We loved our experience! The curries were hearty, and the Tom kha Gai and pad Thai were insanely flavorful. We had a great experience and look forward to going again.
Good, not insane Thai food. Got the red curry
I had the worst pad Thai I've ever tasted in my life.
We loved our experience! The curries were hearty, and the Tom kha Gai and pad Thai were insanely flavorful. We had a great experience and look forward to going again.
Very good thai food. Go to place
Fast and good quality! Really enjoyed the sautéed eggplant dish
I ordered take-away. The food had a really good taste, but the rice and some veggies were a bit overcooked. The fresh rolls were very good. I plan to give this restaurant another try in the future.
Ordered this on Uber eats and I was so disappointed. The drunken noodles tasted like oil- absolutely no flavor. The pad Thai just tasted like ketchup. It was so bad we didn’t eat it. The mango from the mango sticky rice was blackened in most areas. We won’t be ordering. Gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because I gotta support my people somehow.
Fast friendly service with great tasting food. All the flavors of Thailand that you crave!!!
Visiting from Northern California and absolutely loving this place. The decor is cute, the food is delicious, and the staff is super friendly. Feels like a family-run gem!

Ordered their signature dish the Thai basil and it was mid. I asked for a fried egg on top and they said they didn’t do that. Waiter said it was the white version of Thai food 😂. Pad kra pao with no khi daw is not pad kra pao. Go to Sala Thai for way better quality authentic Thai food
The service was quick and the food was delicious. Good value for the money too.
Had the green Thai curry with avocado, absolutely delicious! Never thought about avocado with curry.
Good food experience
Restaurant had a face-lift inside. The staff was very nice. The food was yummy.
This was a takeout order. The order was wrong, and items were missing. They were very nice and apologetic when I went back.
This place is awesome! Great customer service and even better food. Some of the best Thai food in the valley! Apple was our server and is an absolute gem! Looking forward to going back.
I only ordered your delivery. I was here for about a week for a lab atASU. The curry here is the best curry I have ever had. It’s huge portions so yummy very fast very hot great food. I can’t speak about the atmosphere. I never went in person and I just had it delivered, but it was amazing.
Yellow curry was amazing 👏 💛
Food and service was over the top. Really friendly staff and a great choice of food.
Very good food!

The food and service were good.
Friendly service , good price , portion was enormous
I mainly go for the shrimp fried rice. Extra shrimp. But never extra extra shrimp. You won’t see the difference. Never had anything else here, but it’s absolutely fire, ask around.
Farmer and university location has better parking and is cleaner inside.
Service was quick and the food is so amazing. Red avocado curry, spring rolls, gyoza, pineapple fried rice were amongst the dishes we tried today.
Lunch specials are available if you dine in.
We went to Tempe for conferences from Florida, and we found this place with fresh and amazing food. The customer service is awesome!! All the staff are very friendly. We were so happy to see they are doing great with the business. Highly recommended!!!
Great lunch specials, always delicious and affordable. It’s the best Thai place in Tempe.
Great vegan options! I got more order to go and it was put together beautifully🙏
This location should not offer take out. They are NEVER ready always a long wait.
“Thai Spicy” is not thai spicy. Pad see ew ผัดซีอิ๊ว is ok but egg was clumped into one big cluster. Noodles wrong thickness overcooked and semi-mushy. Not enough taste of fish sauce or oyster sauce. They make do with what they have ingredient wise but there is alot to do better. Good veggies though.
Amazing staff & food was so good. Stayed a while to work & the staff was so nice and kept my water glass full. Very comfy place.
Very good, very fresh and tasty. The place is modest, nice and clean. The staff is wonderful, exhibiting the friendly atmosphere that the Thai culture is known for worldwide.
Try this place, it may become your favorite.
Good, not as spicy as it used to be they definitely have held back in seasonings since the last time I came here. But nonetheless good food at a great price.
Green curry is very good. The shrimp in it are huge good shrimp.
The food is good but I refuse to come back after the disrespectful takeout portion that I received the other day. I typically order a few times a week here and the portions are getting smaller with every visit, it's not worth the money anymore.
The staff were very nice to us and even showed us how to take pad Thai from a plate and put it on someone else’s plate with a fork and spoon. They also served extremely fast and the food was absolutely amazing. It’s 30 mins away but I would gladly drive that far to get there. Again, great service, mind-blowingly good food, and it’s even good for vegetarians. Awesome, keep up the good work!
Great for satisfying the craving for Thai.
Nice and cozy place for times when you are craving good thai food!
On a recommendation from the hotel staff, I visited Thai Basil and was very impressed. The Green Curry was exceptional, with just the right amount of spice and a rich, flavorful sauce. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the portion size was generous. The atmosphere of the restaurant was welcoming, and the staff was attentive and friendly. Overall, a great dining experience for anyone looking for delicious, authentic Thai cuisine!
First time here on a business lunch. Food was delicious and staff was very friendly.
Wonderful service & food. Definitely will be going back again!
Friendly service.
Very good food.

Service is a joke. Food is great. It doesn’t matter if you are a good customer and come regularly, they won’t let you come in and grab at 9:20pm even tho it clearly says they close at 10pm. The waitress said they didn’t want to clean up lol Lazy servers, it’s a shame because the food is great. My questions is why are you are in the food and restaurant business? Cleaning is a part of the job. 0 stars for lack of hospitality.
I absolutely love Thai food it’s like you can’t really go wrong with Thai food I love the curry so much delicious taste like a 5 star meal
Always great food and service here. Delicious
Food is great, except for the rude waitress who ask directly for tips with nothing done to me and they gave sb free special treat except me. Bro this is also my first visit to this restaurant ,and you guys r showing explicit double standards. Definitely a dumb decision
The food is above average but the person who was serving us was very rude. Tipping is optional but they literally said “you should’ve taken a takeout if you didn’t want to tip”. We are students, we save up and go out to eat. This is very rude. Even the bill was kept in front of us for a good hour when we were still eating. We were having a fantastic time until the server reacted like that.
No child friendly place. The server even forgot to bring us forks and napkins and I had to take from other table. He also forgot a plate for our toddler. We were not even ready to leave the place and they brought us our check. I am a frequent customer. I always brought my friends over, but seeing such unkind treatment to my child was upsetting. Not going there anymore.
Food is delicious 😋
I usually order takeout from here but I also like eating in because it's a chill atmosphere. The food is always amazing, never had a bad dish and I've been coming here for years. Great service! Highly recommend for Thai in Tempe.
Is amazing. The atmosphere could be better but it is clean just crowded.
Decent food. The soup and veggie dishes were too salty but the yellow curry was very good! The service could be better.
8pm, 5/7/24:
Waiter stopped me from leaving to demand a tip and said not to dine in unless you tip. I said I'll do that next time and left as I heard him curse me out under his breath. Very confrontational and disappointing as the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great.
Best thai food place around. I make sure to visit here every time I'm on that side of town.
10/10 best Thai food
Best Thai place I‘ve ever been!
Ordered yellow curry lunch special. Pro: Taste was average and food came out pretty fast. Con: Staff is not friendly and come across like they don't need your business. I can overcome bad service for great food, but this was not the case.
Food was amazing and the workers are very sweet. Would recommend to anyone.
Super rude staff who come attacking at the customers.
We had a very bad experience at this place and are going to never visit again. When ordering we asked specifically if a dish is going to be sweet and they said they never use anything sweet in that dish. Then when it finally came out it tasted sweet so we asked the waiter and he offered a replacement before we asked, but then the chef or some lady came to our table and started arguing with us in a rude manner that there's nothing sweet in the dish and they wouldn't cancel this order. We weren't even asking for a replacement or a refund but just didn't like the dish but the lady spoke in a super rude way and created a big scene. Had she came and politely told us that this dish is how they make and they couldn't make any adjustments to it we would have understood but instead she shouted and pushed the blame on us. We would never visit such a place again where they come attacking the customers. 0/5 stars for service and staff behavior
First time at this establishment. We went here before going to Tempe Town Lake. Suffice it to say, we'll be going back.
With a warm smile, the staff greeted me. The environment was small but cozy and pleasant. The Thai Ice Tea was a perfect.
The food here was great! The portions were a good size and the food was reasonably priced for being in Tempe.
Kitten and I were invited out early on Saturday afternoon by her Canadian and longtime friend, Blahblahblah. She had one of her two young and talented children in-tow -Halbhalb- and they seemed to enjoy their vegetarian fare. Our all-too-similar chicken pad Thai dishes were solid; I ate my plate without conscious thought. The ades were delish in general and fun was had by all.
Humorous note; we arrived just after opening and I went off to use the single bathroom. Locked in and within 20 seconds, someone tried the knob, first slapping at it with a familiarity I attributed to an employee's hand. There was a loud, thorough sigh and the sound of clicking heels in retreat.
I felt bad, as I knew this would represent someone's last chance to rest before the night's bustle. I got out quick and later, Blahblahblah must've tipped like a champ. The entire restaurant offered some varied forms of farewell as we left.
Chill atmosphere, quick and good service, AMAZING Thai green curry wooooo!
Ive been craving yellow curry for a while, my boyfriend and I came for dinner. my boyfriend got the silver noodle salad, the sauce and mint on the salad was amazing, it had great flavor and the lettuce was crispy. only complaint was that there was only 2 pieces of shrimp. my yellow curry with chicken was honestly not the best. the curry “sauce” was extremely watery, and way too sweet. there is no depth in this yellow curry dish. no lemon grass flavor no deep umami flavors. just sugar and cheap yellow curry paste. was 3 pieces of potato in it, the vegetables were undercooked and the chicken was just bland and regular. lastly, we were finishing up our meal about 30 minutes before they closed, and the guy kept rushing us out. he gave us our check while we were still eating. and even started picking up our plates when I was clearly not done with the food on my plate. the service was fast and straight to the point, so when my boyfriend signed the receipt, the girl checking us out got upset because of the low tip. she asked us why the low tip, me and my boyfriend were shook up at that so i just raised the tip by a $1, then the male server said “wow really?” very loud and rude. needless to say i am never coming to eat here again. rude staff, bland and bare minimum thai food. clearly only here to feed college kids who dont know asain food other than panda express.
Amazing spicy fried rice. Not a fan of the noodles. Veggy egg rolls are really good too. I usually do take out and never have an issue
My Favorite Thai restaurant!!! Their food is Authentic, fresh & not pre made, so be patient for the Best Thai food ever!
Awesome curry! Love the interplay of the sweetness of the coconut milk and peanut from the panang curry with the heat when ordered “Thai hot”
Food was good, service was prompt and friendly
I just hate the tipping culture. The server came running to tell us to get a takeout next time because the tip was low.
Ordered delivery from Thai Basil during our stay in AZ and loved everything we tried. The crab fried rice is a MUST try! If you like Thai food, this is your spot.
The food is good as always, but the to go person misheard my order over the phone and tried to up charge me. When I told her that I in fact did not order that, she starts talking about me to a server. Plain rude.
Very average and nothing special. Spring rolls were super small more wrap then substance… Chicken Thai fried rice was dry and lacked flavor. Disappointing.
This place is basic. Pad see ew was lacking depth. Don’t understand all these raving reviews.
Delicious food and an incredible server!
The waiters are so kind and welcoming. The portion of the food is big, so you can take it home if you can't finish it. Don't forget to try their dessert, it's authentic but not too sweet.
We had dinner yesterday at this location & we were a big group with kids. The food was amazing, we ordered Cashew Cashew with vegetables, Spring rolls, Tom Ka Soup, Drunken noodles. Everything was very flavorful, service was quick & our sweet server (Apple) had a big smile & was being very patient while she was serving us.
Pedimos curry rojo, thai fried rice y Orange chicken. Todo estaba buenísimo y la decoración era muy acogedora.
Great food as usual 😋
Food was delicious and the service is very friendly.
Always excellent food and great customer service. I always get the BBQ pork. So good! I tried the pineapple fried rice. Wow!! All my friends loved this suggestion as a place for lunch.
Good food with good portions, decent prices, Americanized but what isn't these days?
I’ve been coming here for a good while with no issues. Today the new guy treated me as if I was going to steal the food in which I ordered. I recited the order, name, and time order was placed. He demanded I show him a receipt of order (which I have never done). I asked if I looked as if I would steal food and if so how would I know precisely what was on the order list. Mind you I did not walk in looking starved (trust me I look healthy), homeless, or like a criminal. This experience has deteriorated me from going to the Tempe and university location. I will be stopping in to make an in person complaint asap as this was not acceptable.
Small , cozy place with great food and good service. No Booze though 😄
Great food. server was amazing. overall great experience
Second time here and both noodle dishes were very bland and dry, chicken was tough as well.
Incredible Thai food in Tempe. The soups and the curry dishes are just amazing.
I cannot recommend Thai Basil highly enough. Absolutely delicious, authentic, high-quality food that comes with top notch service. Some of my absolute favorite Thai curry that I've ever had. I hope to return soon!
RUDE
The pad thai was very good! The service was good as well.
Ordinary Thai food. One can designate spicy or mild. Flavorful. Service was prompt.
saying this place is amazing is an understatement. the food is wildly amazing and the service is somehow better. my friend and i come regularly and the servers always takes the time to catch up with us and yesterday on her birthday they gave her a free desert and spring rolls.
First time. Ment a friend. Good food
"TIPPING IS MANADATORY" they say. It is a weird but common practice, however, when in a college town, be okay hearing a No once in a while. And definitely do not offer to go to other customers and talk to them about why I should tip.
Always good! Friendly service!
My favorite of the various Thai Basils in town. Decor was significantly nicer than others. Grateful for the purple sticky rice. Only complaint is how quickly all the add-ons add up. A $20 dish can turn into a $50 meal quickly. That’s probably partly my fault for lack of self control, but adding proteins to the curry gets pricey fast.
Overly price and charges for extra spice
3 dollar extra half cup rice not even taste like Jasmine
And Cooked-ahead protein not fresh basically reheated food
Last time I ordered and the sauces was extremely hot but the protein was room temperature and chewy. Clearly reheated!
If it was fast food it is maybe acceptable. Disappointing for a used to be nice experience.
Love this place! We both ordered an iced Thai coffee (she brought us the large size, more than enough for me especially when accompanied by a meal. I'll probably go with a small next time). The meal itself did not disappoint: we were greeted and immediately served a flavorful cup of a vegetable/broth-based soup. We ordered shrimp fresh rolls, accompanied with sides of their peanut sauce and another sweet chili-style sauce. The presentation was on point; I was so full from the appetizer and coffee that I was only able to take a few bites of my entree (Avocado Curry, mild). It was absolutely divine and I enjoyed the leftovers the following day. Likewise; his entree was equally delicious: bone in pork ribs perfectly crisped and served with a medley of broccoli, carrots, zucchini and cabbage. The food and service is sensational here, highly recommend!
Best Thai food around hand down
I’ve been coming here for years. Very good food but very unfriendly and cold staff.
Good food
This place is a banger! Crispy pork and yellow curry highly recommend
I'll say that the service was great and the food came out really fast. But the food itself was lackluster, didn't look very cohesive and felt lazy. I got a hot level and was disappointed at how mild it was. The food is definitely in the average range, in terms of quality.
Great Thai and a quick lunch!
Everything was fantastic. There was only one server for the entire dining area, but she was everywhere. Food was great. They have fresh spring rolls. Wish there was a place like this in my town.
Very cool place around downtown Tempe. I had the drunken noodles. I'll have to go back to try some of the other stuff, but my wife and I had a pretty good time with our son. Restaurant is nice and the food was good.
We hadn't eaten at Thai Basil for about 8 years because we had moved away from the area, but we found ourselves in the neighborhood and fondly remembering the fabulous Thai Iced Tea that they serve, we stopped in and had dinner. It was as good as I remembered it, and the Thai tea was still fabulous.
I had the Red Curry with chicken, and it was as good as when I used to get it eight years before.
It is a small place (only seats avout 30) so the service is good and the employees are pleasant.
We enjoyed it so much that we have been back another time since, even though it means driving 8 or 9 miles.
I definitely recommend it for anyone who is a Thai food lover (or just a lover of good food in general) and a lover of fabulous Thai Iced Tea!
This is a great place to eat not too crowded considering the location and the food was great !
