Excellent food and service. The best red and yellow curry in the valley

Chon was off the charts!!!!!! So I received a message through Facebook marketplace asking if I would trade a decorative plant I had for Thai food. After a quick glance at chon’s reviews I said absolutely I will trade my plant for Thai food!! The reviews dont do it justice. By all accounts and every metric applied the experience was excellent on every level. Staff, house made drinks and the food was on another level.

It is absolutely delicious, one of the best Pad Thais I've ever tried in the USA, and the curry was absolutely mind-blowing. A place you should definitely try :)

Used to come here quite a bit. Ordered to go and the portion wasn't enough to feed a baby. They must think they're fine dining with how much space is left on the plate and the price. If you don't want to do takeout then don't do it instead of disappointing your customers. This place is right across the street but I need to drive 5 miles to go to a Thai place that isn't trying to rip me off.

Love the chicken coconut veggie soup medium heat was perfection. Along with the rice perfect for recovering after a head cold! Soooo Good definitely recommend it.

So many gluten free options marked clearly on the menu! Then the server told us those items are naturally gluten free, but there's actually a ton more options they can modify to be gluten free, like drunken noodles, fried rice. Everything is made to order so they were really good about allowing modifications. Excited to find a great place nearby!

we used Chon Thai for catering an event (approx 25 people), the team there was incredibly nice and worked with us to figure out the best items that would hold well -- even let us borrow their warming oven! Food was also wonderful, prices completely reasonable, would definitely recommend this place if you need to feed a larger group

All the food was very meh. Had very high hopes for this place with its high star rating. Our server was super sweet and attentive. Sad to give them a meh review but it was such a disappointment being one of my two dinners on vacation here. Also it was too sweet being that one in our party was diabetic. Not worth the splurge at all.

Crispy Garlic Chicken is great!!

Had Chon Thia Rama- entire bowl was lined with broccoli - steamed with zero salt - very bland. I sensed they were using the broccoli to reduce portion of main dish. Rice portion is limited, can pay extra for additional. Overall I was not impressed- will not be returning.

Pad thai was delicious

We go to Chon Thai about once a week. Great lunch, dinner and kids menu options. We love the shrimp and pineapple curry and the Thai tea. All dishes on the menu have nice flavors. Reasonably priced.

Update August 2024: Still going here 3 or 4 times per month, but from our recent visit, it’s clear times are changing. We are now served smaller portions for more money, so it’s no longer reasonably priced. One or the other is acceptable, but not both.

Satay was inedible. It’s thick prices of burnt dry chicken that you couldn’t swallow. Drunken noodle was tasteless. Even sticky rice desert was lacking coconut milk.the panang though was good. Right amount of heat and the chicken in it was good.

My friends and I went here for lunch and all got a different curry, red, yellow, green, and massaman. They were all so delicious and full of flavor. A little sweet, a little salty, a little spicy. We ate it all. It was nice and hot too. The Tom Kha with chicken was also the perfect balance of flavors, creamy, savory, but light from the herbs and lemongrass. Yumm! The servers were so friendly and sweet as well. I’d definitely come back here again.

I waited for her to give me the punch line.
She turned around to walked away in distain that I said no.
That moment is impossible to unsee.
The bill arrived.
We were up charged 3.5% for a credit card.
I see no reason to have to go o the bank to eat Thai food.
I use credit cards.

$45 dollar bill with 5.5 dollar up charge.
About a 12% greed fee.

Unkind and unacceptable.
I don't care about the food.

We have been coming to this place almost every week for 7 years, we enjoy their food very much. We haven't had anything that we didn't like. Their staff and the owner are so easy and fun to talk to. It's always a treat for us to go there.

This is a wonderfully relaxed place where they want you to have a great time and treat you like family! The food was amazing and we went at lunch time and it was definitely made to order and came out very quickly! They have lunch specials so it would definitely work for somebody taking their lunch break. They gave us the biggest pops I've ever seen!

We found Chon a few years ago and it’s our new favorite Thai restaurant. Haven’t tried a dish I didn’t like. Curries are flavorful. Noodle dishes are good. We’ve never had to wait long for a table. Our kids like that there’s a kids menu (chicken nuggets and fries and stuff) that even come on kid friendly trays, though they also like getting pad see ew. We’ve always had friendly service as well.

I have been ordering through ubereats and it's always been amazing food, large portions, super hot and packed with care! I love the basil ground chicken and the yum nua salad!

Resturant does NOT allow baby food. Be aware if you are dining in with babies / young toddlers. We went with our 15 months old kid. They did not allow him to eat his fruits and refused to serve us. Had to leave with him crying, upset and obsiviosly hungry.

If baby food is not allowed, are they also not allowing milk? Formula? Breastfeeding!! Not sure, what a sick policy!

May be add kids menu. We would have probably tried something for him if you have let us order but you were stuck up on him not eating his fruit.

I've been coming here for over five years, and it is still my favorite Thai restaurant in the valley. The food carries incredible variety... and it's all good, so don't be afraid to try whatever! The atmosphere is chill and the owner and staff will treat you like family. I highly recommend the Tom Ka Guy chicken with medium-hot spice if you can take it. The chicken pad Thai also never disappoints ;).

We’re vegan and found this gem on our way from picking up soap supplies! This is our second time in less than 2 weeks! They have an entire vegan menu! We had curry, drunken noodles, rolls, fried tofu, and tea (with coconut milk) to name a few. So so good! Food is best Thai we’ve had in the valley! Service is amazing.the owner is so sweet and the staff checked on us frequently and asked how the food was -amazing!!! Food is full of flavorful and tasty!!! Such good food! This warm lunch special was the perfect balance of spicy, sweet, and tangy. And the Thai tea was just perfect level of sweet.

I like the place, I order the lunch special rice noodles with beef. The beef was all fatty barely any meat. All my colleagues liked their food though.

Came in for lunch. They served complimentary egg drop soup while we wait for our meal. I had kao soi for the first time and it's delicious. In it is the yellow chicken curry with pickled vegetables. There were noodles in the curry but also the fried crispy ones on the side to add the texture to it. You can select your spice level for it. I had it hot.

I am not vegan, but my grandkids are. So when we meet we meet at Chon's. They do offer meat dishes, but it's their vegan dish that shine. They are beautifully presented, tasty, and spicy!

My family and I regularly order takeout from this place and absolutely love it. I started ordering from here after finding them on the Happy Cow app and seeing that they had a whole seperate vegan menu with various options, which a lot of restaurants around here don't have. Their vegan options are fantastic and their portions and prices are great! I'd definely recommend their vegan pad woon sen w/tofu, vegan drunken noodles w/ tofu, vegan eggplant basil w/ tofu and their vegan pad see ew w/ tofu. My meat-eating family also enjoys their food and often orders their pad see ew w/ beef or tofu. Their customer service is always great, they are friendly and quick to serve you. Just last night they accidentally forgot a plate in our take out order that my dad didn't notice when he picked up. I called back but they had closed. I hadn't seen that I had missed calls from them after they had closed and a voice-mail from May apologizing for the mistake and offering to fix it. I greatly appreciate their initiative and that they called even after they had closed and offered a solution. They definetely treat their customers well and we will continue to be regulars. I'd definetely recommend them for your go to Thai place!!

Food was good. Packaging for take out wasn’t. Pad Thai was put into styrofoam piping hot so the meal warped into the container so felt like we were eating container. Drunken noodle and Thai basil were yummy, no packaging issues

The atmosphere is ok but the food is disgusting and the crab delight was over cooked and brown. The oil that they used was not clean. DO NOT EAT HERE.

This is my 8th times going here. And every times I go, I ordered the mango salad with fried fish on top. Yesterday the salad is so bad, they used very soft and bribe mango instead of the young crispy one. so my salad was so bad. this is the last time i will be here. you guys disappoint me so much..

Great food!

Let me start by saying that if you're familiar with Thai food and you're looking for a very specific flavor, this place is a must. I'm from San Francisco. Good Asian food is 5min away. I've been suffering here because most thai places here don't hit right. It's taken about 5 thai places from Mesa to Phoenix and in Chandler to find a place that has the flavor this place has. This is my new regular Thai spot. Probably better than the ones we have in SF.

The Tom Yum soup with seafood was delicious! A really nice balance of flavors with just the right amount of sour.

Mango salad was good and very fresh. I prefer more ripe mangoes but i guess the flavor is slightly green or firm mango. Still good.

Chicken Satay, yes! Well flavored chicken with the best dipping sauce I've ever had. I'm well traveled with my food from coast to coast and this is my favorite satay dipping sauce.

The actual let down: the garlic pepper chicken. Not to be confused with the crispy garlic chicken. The flavor was still very very good and I'll order this again and again. But for some strange reason, the garlic was hard like uncooked rice. Found this the most strange.

One other issue... the food does come out slow and out of order. Entree before appetizer. Jokingly, I guess it's a good thing we didn't order dessert. Lol. Make no mistake though, the food is really really good. We're very satisfied and will be returning customers. Just come with patience and not being in a rush and you'll be fine.

Just had dinner here tonight. Took 5 minutes before we were given their menu. Took another 10 minutes before the waitress took our orders. Bare in mind, no glass of water was given to any of us like they did with other customers. Took about 20 minutes before we got our food in which I had to remind the server that we need our drink. She was not the waitress so she wasn't aware of what we ordered for drink. So we had to tell her. Jasmine tea was definitely low quality. Food was definitely not served room temperature and very bland for fried rice and pad Thai. Never once we were asked if everything was ok and if we needed anything.
Oh they also charged 3.5 % extra for using card. Overall negative experience in which we will never go back. So that was the first and last time we will dine or eat their food. I love Thai food just not this one.

Yummy food, great prices, nice atmosphere, and pretty bathrooms

My mom and I LOVE Chon Thai! I first started coming to Chon Thai around 5 years ago. We fell in love with the food and with May, the owner. She is so sweet and comes out to say hi when she can! Their spring rolls are better than any other Thai place we’ve tried. Some of our favorites are the orange cauliflower, pad see ew, the yellow curry, the Tom kha, and crispy garlic chicken. The servings are very large. Thanks May for the incredible food and wonderful service through the years!

Best Thai food in the valley

It was good and the service was very nice. Just felt like the flavor was lacking a certain depth that other thai places have. Overall not bad though and would satisfy a craving for Thai. Just not my first choice.

Best Thai food we've had! I love that all the food is super flavorful and never too oily. The jasmine rice is really aromatic and distinct. As many have said, there's an entire vegan menu! The portions are usually enough for two meals, so that's a win for me!

Absolutely delicious! My husband had the yellow curry medium spice and I got the Thai basil chicken fried rice! Soooo good! My hubs has been looking for that same taste and found it! My fried rice had great flavor no need to add in anything! Ooh and pot stickers were on point too! We will definitely be back! This place is the best Thai place in the area. Drunken noodle beef was pretty good! But their lettuce wrap, I could eat that all year!

First time and it won't be long before we return. Crispy Chicken was deeeeelicious. Tender with a light crisp and a tasty sauce. Owner came out to talk with us. She is friendly and sweet. Thai Rama was also excellent!! You won't be disappointed.

I was greeted well at the entrance, seated and handed a menu. I ordered the spring rolls from the appetizers list and drunken noodles with shrimp for my meal.
BOTH my entre and the appetizers came to the table at the same time (thumbs down).
The rolls were ridiculously hot. I couldn't even grab them without burning my fingers so I moved to my entre.
The noodles were over cooked and as I tried to noodle them onto my fork, it quickly just turned to mush from how overcooked they were (second thumbs down). The shrimp had great flavor but the bell peppers were also over cooked.
As I broke into the spring rolls I saw that they were burnt (third thumbs down).
Service was good but probably won't come here again.

We love this place, but advice to ownership/management: if someone says they have a gluten allergy… no need to snootily say, “there IS no gluten” every time… yea, we get that certain dishes are GF, it’s called cross contamination… The entire menu is not gluten free…

Music was a little weird tho. It’s a restaurant serving thai food and has smooth jazz playing in the restaurant and you can head that cooks in the back playing Latina music on their little radio. I think the owners are trying too hard to be modern American and straying far from just being authentic.

The egg drop soup had corn and carrots in it, a bit of an American twist…

Food was meh and so so. Pictures of what I ordered from the menu and what was delivered is an entire different presentation.

Staff was friendly although we had to wait for like 15 minutes to track someone down to just pay our bill.

Green Curry was wonderful!

Try the Kao Soi. It'll change your life.

Favorite Thai restaurant! I recommend trying their ‘Pad Thai with Beef’.

Cozy place with very friendly staff. Personally I didn't care for the pad Thai, but that could just be in person preference. I'd be willing to try other dishes.

Unacceptably slow

TomKa and Panang curry were good. However the Chicken Satay and rice servings were very small and they charge for more rice and 3.5% if not paying in cash.

Food was great. They have a separate vegan menu if you are vegan and many options for gluten free food as well.

We searched best local restaurants when we moved to Chandler about 6 years ago, and have been regularly going back since then. Have tried other locally owned Thai restaurants, but always come back to the best and most consistent.

The food is wonderful and they even have a separate vegan menu that has lots of choices. Food is always fresh. The owner is often there and she is warm, friendly and welcoming! You will not be disappointed!

This restaurant refused service to me today. Is was completely uncalled for. They had 4 two top tables available and 3 or four 4 top tables available. They said they were too busy to serve me. I then requested that I order take out, they refused me service then as well. I am 62 years old and retired and have never been refused service anywhere in my life. I would have been more than happy to wait over an hour for either a table or a take out order. I am livid. This is the worst customer service I have ever witnessed. I suggest if you wish to be seated or get take out, you may want to chose a different eating establishment that will not refuse you service just because they are busy. Most restaurants live and thrive on being busy. Save yourself the embarrassment. There are plenty other great Thai food locations close by. 🤨🤨

This is probably the best Thai food restaurant that we’ve ever been to since we moved in AZ. We ordered tom kha soup, larb salad, drunken noodles, and pineapple fried rice. Our order came out fast (it wasn’t too busy on a Sunday) and the customer service was great. Highly recommend this place!

The menu has lots of options, including weekly lunch specials. The portions are very generous for the price. I got a Pad Thai and it fed me for three meals! The restaurant itself is very comfortable, clean, and cozy. Make sure to bring cash if you don’t want to pay the 3.5% fee on credit card payments.

Quality has taken a real dive in last few months. Understand times are hard and staff is hard to keep. Last few orders have really disappointed. I'll wait a few months before I try them again.

One of the best red curry I have ever had. It had perfect balance of spiciness and warmth of coconut milk. Dragon noodles was great too with perfect smoky flavor. Great ambience and server was very friendly. Would highly recommend. They added extra fees for non-cash payment (credit card processing fees). They should write that on check/receipt.

Chon Thai has some of the best Thai food around the east valley.

The pad thai is incredibly delicious and well balanced.
