Attentive waitstaff, portions large enough to feel just a bit overstuffed by the end of the meal but perfectly full a couple minutes later (ha!).

My wife got the lamb satay, and I got the Panang curry. Her lamb was TOP NOTCH. She let me sample it, and while I generally don’t love peanut sauce, the lamb meat itself was so good that I would’ve eaten it with ANY sauce, and the peanut sauce complimented it nicely.

The panang curry was warming, nourishing, and not too heavy.
My wife & I both found the Hokaido Sweet potatoes appetizer to be not to *our* taste, but others might enjoy it.

I can surely say the best food I've ever eaten was in AL appreciate the great experience you provided us. Tempura green beans 🫘, roasted edamame die for it 🥰 Tofu fried rice , I love the lots of options. I really loved it .

Diner Review №3

A special place.

Diner Review №4

Love this place. The atmosphere is unique and fun, their food is amazing and you are served quickly by an very nice staff.

Diner Review №5

I recently visited Shiki, intrigued by their Indonesian-inspired offerings, but left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

The Indonesian food was just okay—nothing particularly stood out. The duck dish, while promising, was overpriced for what it delivered. The meat was dry, and the flavor profile didn’t quite justify the cost. As for the Indonesian ramen, it was mediocre at best. The broth lacked depth, and the overall dish felt uninspired.

Overall wouldnt come back again.

Diner Review №7

Spicy beef salad, sushi and curries are all amazing! Good prices compared to much of the area as well.

Diner Review №8

Wonderful dinning experience. The waiter was very attentive and kind. The food was delicious. And the atmosphere was chill. There are terrace sitting, wish it was warmer so we could have sat outside, but the inside is intimate. The basil roll was top notch, that peanut sauce made it very very delish! That was my favorite for sure!

Diner Review №9

Any place that makes beef rendang well is 5 stars.

Diner Review №10

Maybe it was a good place long ago, but we visited it today first time and it was a horrible experience. On pictures serving size is a good and in reality it’s tiny and looks like a waste of money, compared to other restaurants. Poor portions and very low level of service. The only plus is a very good location of this restaurant. Completely disappointed, and never come back.

Great place enjoy the food ..

Diner Review №13

Very tasty , authentic Thai food and amazing service. We were seated promptly and service was very quick. We got the appetizers and drinks for 50% off. Thanks to the happy hour !!
We ordered curry potstickers, tempura shrimp and tempura green beans. For mains we got the chicken fried rice, lamb curry and the beef bulgogi. Everything was super delicious !! This was on Christmas Eve. Everything else was closed but we enjoyed a great dinner.

Diner Review №14

Ordered via Toast because it is listed as preferred by store. Called upon arrival in accordance with store’s message in Toast (see screenshot) while walking from parking spot. Staff on phone said “we don’t do curbside.” Staff at front door said “you’re on the phone, this order is for online” and initially refused to give me my order. Please update Toast to remove this message. This low rating, and your staff’s confusion, are self-inflicted.

Exquisito lugar!!!!

Fun club atmosphere

Diner Review №20

Friendly service, great menu selection, & flavorful food with big portions. The "Spicy Thai Ramen" (pictured below) was especially delicious. This has been the best Thai ramen bowl I have found so far in Birmingham. I have been for lunch and dinner both takeout and dine-in and I have been impressed all times. Check this place out for a quality dining experience - which is hard to find these days!

I had the Panang Curry and my wife had the Pad See-U, both were excellent. Both indoor and outdoor seating available.

Diner Review №24

I've eaten here several times and the food was excellent. Tonight they were a little off. Or they may have had a new owner and chef? We started by ordering "hot" sake but it was barely above room temperature. My wife then ordered coconut soup that was served with her entree. She enjoyed it, but had to eat it fast so that her main dish didn't go cold. She had the chicken in green curry. It was nicely spiced, and a good portion. I ordered ginger and mushrooms with chicken. Also a nice portion, but bland. Given the restaurant's past performance we will return.

Diner Review №25

Okay, this place is one of my favorites in town! A lot of pan-Asian restaurants can be a real let down BUT NOT SHIKI. My favorite dish is the Opor Ayam, which is more of an Indonesian style dish and it is AMAZING! That said, their Thai and Sushi menus honestly are great as well. They do a great Happy Hour as well, would definitely recommend it. I'm still not sure why this place isn't more busy, I tell all my friends about it. Staff is very friendly and efficient.

Diner Review №26

I love this place. Best Tomyum soup ever!! Sushi is on point. Highly recommend l.

Diner Review №27

I went here with my 1 year old toddler, 1 year old nephew, sister, brother and brother in law. We definitely lived the food. The portions were great, not too much but not too little. Waitress was very attentive! Definitely coming back soon!

Diner Review №28

The wait to get service was super ridiculous once we sat down. Had to ask if we were going to be served. Seemed very low on staff, and disorganized. Sushi was okay, Ramen was good
Unfortunately I will not be coming back

Diner Review №29

I asked for the spicy noodles and to make it vegan. They must not know what vegan means because it had eggs in it.

Diner Review №30

First time eating Shiki. There was no wait, which is odd for a Sunday (after church). The spring rolls were melt-in-your-mouth fantastic. Pho was amazing. The duck was a little dry but still tasty. Good place for some healing food.

Diner Review №31

Walk a few blocks for late dinner, sat outside and enjoyed a nice cool and peaceful night with quick service.

Diner Review №32

This place is a little gem in Homewood and the mgr is a delight to speak to. I try to get here every trip to Birmingham. Just a wonderful menu and experience

Shiki is a special place and we consider the employees there to be like family. They are always welcoming and the food is art.

Diner Review №44

Great peanut sauce. One of the best I’ve had anywhere. The Tofu w/ Satay sauce is exquisite. Several vegan and all the ones I’ve had are good. Service is always great and the atmosphere is laid bacc.

Diner Review №45

Hell yeah!!!!! Immaculate sides!!! Immaculate selection of dishes!!!! Excellent music choice and super attentive but not nosy waiters!!!!! We couldn't even take photos when our main dishes came out because we went directly to stuffing our face and needless to say everything was DELISH!

Diner Review №46

Amazing food and great service!!

Diner Review №47

Great local neighborhood dinner spot!

Diner Review №48

This is the best asian restaurant I’ve ever been to and it’s not close. Everything is amazing every time, along with the service!

Diner Review №49

I ordered the hangover ramen and it was missing my lobster head and my bone shank with the marrow it is advertised that it has a whole lobster and it has a long piece of bone shank with marrow I was very disappointed!!! Otherwise it was absolutely delicious!!!

Diner Review №50

Diner Review №51

Food was really good. Had a broad selection of sushi and curry. I had the red curry duck and it was fabulous. DW had the a special ramen chicken (msaman). She loved it. Had the surf and turf sushi. Food was very authentic. Service was fine. Really enjoyed the experience.

Diner Review №52

Diner Review №53

Every time I try a new sushi spot I tell my fiancé we should have went to Shiki! I recommend this restaurant to every sushi lover. I am never disappointed with the food or service. The wait staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The food is consistent any time of day.

Diner Review №54

About had the worst meal of my life. I’ve had really bad meals and this just tops it. I already knew it was going to be bad when I asked for Thai hot and there was no spice at all. The noodles were too over cooked and overall tasted like it was just too watery. No flavor at all. Chicken was too dry and everything just tasted like a soggy mess. Trash of a place and trash of a meal. Disgraceful. I saw an add for $3 whopper Wednesday and I just wish I would’ve just got a freaking whopper. Would’ve saved me a headache to find parking and now I’m at a loss of money and my stomach hurts.

Diner Review №55

LOVE this place and the staff. Everything is amazing!

Diner Review №56

What a great place. We were just in the area visiting applesauce gymnastic store and decided to come here on a whim. Sitting was quick, and the service was wonderful. The older gentleman serving us was so sweet. And the food was amazingly good. Would totally come again.

Diner Review №57

Fantastic spot walking distance from my hotel. I will definitely be back!

Diner Review №58

Highly recommend the basil pork belly: inexpensive, filling, and very tasty.

This is also a great place to get sushi in B'ham, *far* superior by leagues to rock-n-roll, Ikko, Surin West, and others that have sushi in downtown B'ham. Just make the 4min trip out to homewood and visit Shiki.

Diner Review №59

Diner Review №60

Hidden gem. Sushi is good, and the crab angels are fantastic. The peanut butter pie dessert is a favorite of mine. The pricing is fair and happy hour specials are great.

Diner Review №61

Diner Review №62

Absolutely some of the best sushi I have ever had in my life!

The waitress was lovely but the person who seated us was not, so 3/5 for customer service.

Interior of the restaurant is simple, but the menu is elaborate! The sushi really was incredible at a reasonable price!

Diner Review №63

They could do with maybe one less table inside. It's pretty cramped. Also, if you're going to make people pull out their phone and scan a QR code for the menu, the very LEAST you could do is format the menu so it's readable on phone screens. Or just, you know, give people a paper menu, since that is clearly what the graphic designer had in mind. Food was perfectly good.

Diner Review №64

Diner Review №65

We are new in town and this was the first sushi place we tried out but certainly didn’t exceed our expectations.
I decided to try the vulcan roll since I read so many good reviews. Sadly, it was a big meh for me. tasteless, no harmony between flavors, and had to dumped it in soy sauce to feel any flavor besides the funny cream cheese they use.
If we ever go back, it would be for the shrimp tempura roll *during happy hour* bc the place doesn’t have any vibe so Id rather stay at home or just go somewhere else.

Diner Review №66

Excellent quality food, flavor and taste. Everything I ordered was made fresh and it tasted AMAZING!!! Our Salmon Avocado Rolls were GREAT!!! And BTW, I also LOVE the fresh Woodear mushroom 🍄 & Bok Choy 🥬 in my Spicy Thai Ramen w.Coconut milk. Thank you soooo much 😊. I would definitely order here again.

Diner Review №67

Everything was hot, quickly served and the service was great. Best place I've eaten in birmingham in a long time. Price point was perfect just like the portions. Got two different Ramen spicy and it was amazing.

Diner Review №68

Diner Review №69

Wonderful food!

Diner Review №70

Great place to have dinner. Plenty of Thai and sushi options. Great appetizers. Loved the Nam Tok Beef and Unagi were excellent. The atmosphere was good but a little too dark.

Diner Review №71

Perhaps I went on a bad night, but it took forever to get my order taken just for drinks alone. The food also took forever to come out. I had the Pad Thai, and it was good! My friend I went with got food that was cold and his meal made him sick later that night. The staff was friendly, but I feel like we were forgotten quite a bit. It took a long time for us to get everything, including refills and the bill.

Diner Review №72

Diner Review №73

Great food

Diner Review №74

This restaurant had outdoor and indoor seating and the ambiance was beautiful in each. Outside was a bit quieter and so with kids we chose to eat inside. The restaurant is dimly lit, perfect for a date night.

Service was good and timely. The sushi was good, but I would only go back for the Thai food; it hit the spot!

Diner Review №75

Delicious food. Great service. Pretty quick. We enjoyed the Indonesian ramen(18), the hangover roll(24) ànd the balinese duck(25)

Diner Review №76

Shiki is a gem. Beautiful food, beautiful people.

Diner Review №77

A quick pit stop for some dinner

Diner Review №78

Happy birthday to me!

Diner Review №79

It was a very cute restaurant. Very clean. The portions were a good size and it was very tasty. They even had some really nice outside seating. Overall we had a great time.

Diner Review №80

They were closing in 25 mins when we called for a pickup. It's the end of the day so we would have understood if it wasn't their best work. But man oh man they still went above and beyond. We just had the best spicy noodle and kamikaze sushi that we've had to date.
They just don't miss. Love that place.

Diner Review №86

Diner Review №87

the food was amazing the night time vibe was ok but good time

Diner Review №88

Visited on Friday Aug. 11th, around 7pm. Very crowded, and VERY hot. So the more people they crammed in, the hotter it became. This is coming from someone that is constantly cold. At one point it was reading 84°F. Sushi and hot do not mix well. The food was mid and service was mid. (All this could very well be due to it just being miserably hot in there so it wasn't enjoyable). Maybe we will try again in cooler months.

Diner Review №89

Delightfully tasty Asian fusion in the best part of Birmingham! Prices are reasonable. Service was great!

Diner Review №90

I got a sushi roll, and it was so good! My friend got pad thai, and she absolutely loved it. We sat outside and had a lovely time, and our server was sweet!

Diner Review №91

Some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time. I don't remember the name of my dish, but it was cooked in yellow curry and coconut milk. I'll be dreaming of this dish until I return.

Diner Review №92

As you can see from my previous posts, I typically don’t leave negative reviews. Because the food was so bad, I felt compelled. My sake nigiri was not fresh and “veiny.” Driving back from the Gulf Shores, I craved Asian food and expected much better experience. The carrot slices in Sautéed vegetables actually tasted sour, which meant they were spoiled.

Diner Review №93

Dish was actually spoiled.

Diner Review №94

Diner Review №95

Beautiful vibe inside. Half off apps during happy hour. Very tasty Panang dumplings. Coconut soup was on point. Sushi tasted fresh and was presented nicely. Overall very happy.

Diner Review №96

Had my wife birthday dinner there!! Service was excellent!

Diner Review №97

Love Yogi. Love the food. Love the music.

Diner Review №98

Little overpriced food with average flavor. Tom yum soup is not that tasty and the $17 appetizer Tuna Tataki is really small and no flavor at all. Waitress was good and atmosphere is ok.

Diner Review №99

Food and service was fine if a bit pricey for what was given.

Diner Review №100

I enjoyed the ramen so much that I wanted another bowl. I will be back again. I went here for ramen but tried other apps. This was a great lunch spot but I know date night can happen here as well. The drinks and food put this place on my list; however, be prepared for a wait. I wish I had more time to enjoy my food.

Diner Review №101

Great service, Great food selection & a beautiful atmosphere outside seating.

Diner Review №102

Diner Review №114

Always a great meal! We love this place and have yet to receive bad service or bad food.

Diner Review №115

Crab angels and basil rolls were great appetizers. Tuna tataki was delicious. Food was well prepared. Service was professional and ambience of the restaurant was lovely. Walkable from the aloft Soho Marriott property.

Diner Review №116

Always a pleasant experience. Encourage you to try it.

Diner Review №117

Worst Thai food I've had in Birmingham. Overall there was a lack of flavor.

Diner Review №118

Fantastic food! I had the basil pork and it was wonderful. The old fashioned with the smoked orange was also the bomb. The owner
( I think it was the owner--it was very loud and I couldn't hear him, but he appeared at our table of six at least twice) was super attentive and has a kind demeanor. I will be back.

Diner Review №129

Good food. Nice place have a meal

Diner Review №130

so freaking good!! we ordered 3 specialty rolls and the beef rendang. i know the popular dishes here are typically sushi, but the standout for me was definitely the rendang. it tastes like home, and they don’t skimp out on the beef. the rolls were tasty but much thinner than what i’m used to. very good if you like cooked rolls.

Diner Review №131

Diner Review №132

Great thai food and the cheesecake was yummy, just really frozen and challenging to eat. I also didn't love all the lasers they had on. The service was great though!

Diner Review №136

A gem of a Thai restaurant that’s tucked away in Homewood that serves some delicious sushi! The atmosphere is modern and fun for any party size! They have a great selection of uniquely crafted rolls and classic Thai dishes that are all delicious! Parking can be difficult during busy hours and there’s usually a wait so come early or have reservations!

Diner Review №137

Diner Review №141

Cute little place. I had the pad thai. It wasn't bad but the chicken was bland and I asked for Shrimp pad thai, and got chicken pad thai with 2 shrimps for the upcharge. I also had the panang dumplings. Just dumplings on a plate with panang sauce thrown on top. They were good but wasn't what I was expecting. Overall I would go back. My friend had so really good sushi and Ramen. I think I might just not have ordered the right thing but I'm definitely open to another shot. The service was good our server was very kind.

Diner Review №142

Cute spot in Homewood. Food was super tasty. Spicy Coconut soup was fire! Had the crispy rice app and it was the best in town. Will be back soon! Super friendly staff! Go during happy hour!

Diner Review №143

Great staff and good food

Diner Review №144

Pad Thai was great. Not quite the typical pad Thai you’d get. I think they do something slightly different from other Thai places I’ve been. I’d like to go back and try some of their other dishes.

Diner Review №145

Absolutely the best crab rangoon. The coconut soup and basil rolls were delicious as well. We ordered the masaman curry to split - next time will order it spicy.

Diner Review №146

Vibrant Thai food that tastes fresh and flavorful.
Ceviche was opulent and tasty. It has a decent amount of protein and is well worth the splurge!

Diner Review №153

Visiting the area and this restaurant was recommended. It was great! Excellent food. Listen to the server recommendations.

Diner Review №154

the ramen is really good. the attention is incredible I will return again. Thanks

Diner Review №155

Great service and Great food!

Diner Review №156

Came to visit the in laws in town and oh my word, I wish I found this place sooner. I am beyond excited that I found my new sushi restaurant. I got the spicy beef salad and the seafood ceviche and it was delicious. It reminds me of a time eating at a delicious seafood restaurant in New York, and I always thought of going back to NY just for the food. (Hahah)

The spicy beef salad was good, I prefer it with more lime which is just my preferred taste. Meat was cooked, wished it was medium but my fault for not specifying in the take out instructions. Taste is still amazing. I’m Laotian and this is a meal similar to my parents Thai cooking except we add a little rice powder to it. The picture taken was halfway eaten, but there were more red onions and more greens lol.

Next, the seafood ceviche is my favorite, and I will be ordering this every time I visit. I added cucumber to it. I wish it was diced cucumber since most of everything else was chopped, instead the cucumber was sliced. Doesn’t change the fact that it’s still yummy lol. We have our preferred ways, right? Anyway, the sauce is amazing. I squeezed the lemon that came with it, and it was delicious.

I hope y’all find something yall like. I recommend this place 10/10.

Diner Review №157

This is my second visit and this time Shiki Birmingham did not disappoint again. 👏
Wine, Ramen and Sushi for the win. This place stays packed and I see why. Because they know good food and they also know good customer service. Smiling faces everywhere!...Add Extra everything...my stomach left very happy and full.

Diner Review №164

Tasty treat! We went back a second time during our visit to Alabama! Love the atmosphere and vibe and this dish was amazing! The curry, turmeric, with lemongrass and Cucumber...and rice, was to die for... !

Diner Review №165

Nice looking place. Trendy. Music a bit too loud for good "date" conversation. But very nice area --- & the place looks gr8. Nice ppl. But sadly, if you want authentic, intricate, layered & luscious Thai flavor - then try elsewhere. The "Spicy Coconut Soup" (add chicken) was not either of those & had dried shroons just cut and garnished onto it - not cooked at all - and they definately tasted that way - "raw" tasting - like you just picked it out of the pile & threw it on top. They weren't even stir fried down a tiny bit with simply plain oil or garlic. Definately not enough coconut flavor by far - so there was no "depth" or luscious "mouth feel" to the soup - and the flavors are not "layered" at all. No Kefir Lime leaf or lemongrass or ginger chunks to layer & "marry" the flavors. Idk - maybe its a different regional type of soup thats not the traditional Tom Kha Kai most of us know & adore.

The main dish was ok. Again - not layered in flavor. No oyster sauce or fish sauce flavors at all. Definitely no "roasted pepper" taste as described on menu - and not spicy at all either. Had to add red pepper.
Regardless - it wasn't bad - just wasn't up to par. Maybe I got them on a bad day. Didn't try the sushi - it might be gr8 - but overall this place won't bring me back for the Thai menu. Might give it one more go just to try the sushi - but looking elsewhere for gr8 Thai...

Diner Review №166

The best sushi I ate while in Birmingham. It doesn’t compare to sushi on the west coast.

Diner Review №167

I was left incredibly disappointed. I am a big fan of Thai food and having relocated to the state recently, was excited to find a local place. But the pad see ew seemed whitewashed, perhaps, to cater to the local customer base and ultimately lacking authentic flavor you get elsewhere. Service was subpar as staff seemed overextended.

Diner Review №168

Great location along with great food and staff. An all around great restaurant, and their coconut soup is a must try

Diner Review №169

Diner Review №170

Diner Review №171

nice place and atmosphere, good dishes, friendly and fast service, low prices

Diner Review №172

Everything was excellent the drinks also

Diner Review №173

It was good. My son ordered a ramen bowl and I ordered a roll. It was a little bit annoying that we ordered before some but they got their food first. Also being walked around but not stopping to as if we needed anything but asking tables around us. It’s the stuff like that that makes me not return even if the food was good.

Diner Review №174

I ordered the chicken pad see-u to go. When I opened it back at my hotel, I realized it was completely missing the broccoli. It tasted good and was ready a lot quicker than quoted, but pretty disappointing to not have one of the main ingredients and the only vegetable is some onion.

Diner Review №175

Diner Review №176

Diner Review №177

Diner Review №178

A little pricey but inflation is real right now with food costs through the roof. Absolutely worth the trip. Food is well prepared, well plated and delicious. (See photo for exact meals purchased) I spent $150 including tip, which really wasn't bad to feed 8 people because we were all full and satisfied in the end, even had a small amount left over. It was so good that I actually wanted to eat more but i was just too full. I would say each of the meals I purchased easily feed 1 adult and 1 middle school aged child. Or 2 adults that eat recommended sized portions. I purchased 2 types of cooked sushi, 1 baked and 1 deep fried. Both absolutely delicious. 1 order can easily feed a family of 4 or 5. Customer service was good. 1 employee took the time to answer my detailed questions about the menu her name was Anna, please tip her when she's providing this level of customer service. Establishment was clean and well maintained. If i was so happy with service why not five star? I ordered extra veggies and double pineapple for my meals. I didn't appear to get that i had a total of 5 pineapple chunks and if that was double it would mean the norm is 2.5 pineapples.
That, would be unacceptable at these prices and finally I did not observe hand washing or sanitizing between handling of cash payments and handling of prepared orders. OVERALL, I was very pleased with my experience and meals and will happily continue to spend my hard earned money with them.

Really enjoyed the food here. Pad Thai had a great taste to it and was among the better Pad Thais I've tried. Coconut tofu soup was also really good, but I would say pretty overpriced for just a cup of soup. The Chicken Panang was very tasty, but my only reason for giving for 4 stars instead of 5 is the spice level of the dish. I like my Thai food hot and asked if my Panang could come out extra hot. While it was still really good, it was also very mild. I've never been to a Thai place that couldn't accommodate increasing or decreasing the heat level of an entrée. Besides that one gripe, food was great and the service was incredibly fast.

Diner Review №188

The best Thai restaurant in Birmingham!
