We love supporting small businesses. This restaurant was recommended on a FB post of spots to eat in Wausau. We visited on a Thursday evening. Our hungry little family began to order. We ordered short ribs. We were told that they are out. We ordered the chicken curry. They were out. How about the grilled pork? They were also out. Either, they were super busy before 7pm on this night or didn’t plan on serving those dishes (see pictures of the ambiences). We settled for the Thai Boat Noodles (sub-par) and Muscle Stir Fry. We also got the Khao Man Gai, fried wings with house sauce, house fried rice, crispy pork belly, meatball appitizer, Summer Shady and Mango Cart beer. IMO, the only good thing was the 2 beers. If you are traveling for great SE Asian food, get back in your car and drive 2.5 hours west. If you are a local who wants good Asian food, this is the spot. For us, it missed the mark.
First time in to Newch’s and it didn’t disappoint! The buns on the bao were so soft and fluffy, pork was nice and tender. The orange chicken was one of the best I’ve ever had. The outside was so crispy and the inside was perfectly cooked and tender. Really enjoyed the pad Thai as well. 5/5 all around.
Don’t judge this place by it’s location. At the end of a dead end road, surrounded by residential homes, this kitchen boasts some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. Everything we ordered we enjoyed. And we will again make the trip from Green Bay Area just for this amazing food!
Great Thai Food!
Just a short jaunt from downtown Newch's is your classic sports bar with an AMAZING Thai menu!
The chicken avocado egg rolls were a huge hit with my husband, and I loved the fresh rolls and how they used a lot of Thai basil. The pho was delightful on a cold January day; definitely our favorite part!
I ordered chicken Pad Thai. My favorite Thai dish.
I travel to Thailand frequently And speak Thai and Korean.
My plate was very small in quantity. $14+ for less than half of a plateful.
Pad Thai was burn’t. Cooked too long at too high of a temp.
If you want awesome Pad Thai eat at MA PHIM (The Teacher) Pike Street Seattle WA
Will not eat at this rip off joint again.
What a hidden gem! We were in town for a sporting event and after a full day of chips and hotdogs we wanted some Asian food. We picked the closest spot to the high school and didn’t even bother reading reviews. At first you feel like you are in a residential area and then end up at the bar/restaurant. We were promptly seated and attended to. The food came pretty quick! Everything we had was fantastic! It’s been a couple of months and we still talk about them! If you are in the area this is a must stop! The bao buns were are absolute favorite but everything else was delicious too. We ordered, spring rolls, bao buns, pho, pork belly, raw laab. We will definitely stop again! We were clearly hungry because we devoured our appetizers and most of our dishes before getting pictures.
Drove 40 miles for their fish fry only to find them closed. Call ahead before you go.
Amazing food and staff. Pho was fantastic. They were making fresh crab rangoons as well and those are TOP NOTCH. Newch is a great guy with great food. Don’t skip this place!
Wonderful

They were out of several things we ordered.
Food was awesome and the service was great! They got our spice level spot on. I would HIGHLY recommend you come here to grab some food!
It's a rustic sort of place, but the food is great with generous portions. We will definitely be back.
Absolute HORRIBLE customer service. We ordered a dish we couldn’t even eat- they didn’t offer to take it off the bill and just acted like we were stupid for ordering it. It’s my favorite food ever, I order this at every Thai restaurant I go to and it’s never been that bad before and the waitress tried to justify it with a “MHHMMM..” attitude. So into the garbage it went.
Will not be back.
We catered Newch's for our wedding. He told us to be on time with our schedule to be respectful to his business and workers. After giving us many different excuses before his arrival. he arrived almost 2 hours late. Throwing off the latter half of our evening reception.
Food quality and portions were disappointing considering that we had gone to a wedding in the spring catered by Newch's with less people and the food was far better.
His portions weren't enough, his trays were half filled. Our already hungry guests were left hungry. A quarter of our guests didn't get to eat at all. Newchs ordered fast chicken at the end to make up for it which it didn't because most guests already left. He also forgot to bring the pepper.
He tried to convince US that our guests took too much or maybe we had unaccounted heads. Our guest count was less than because people left after the ceremony, many families couldn't make it last minute, and our count we gave him included kids and infants in the total number.
On top of that his food was cold. Our wedding party had undercooked chicken. He gave us a discount due to the poor service but this was after denying the undercooked food.
There's more details to the context of our wedding day but business is business. He could've told us it wasn't possible and we would have looked elsewhere. All of his circumstances aside, Newch's saw our numbers, he saw his staff line-up, he told us he would be able to service our wedding. We made the mistake of trusting him.
Newch's overall service was not good. We are not so terrible to say our day was ruined because of Newch's, but that is ONLY because almost everything before mealtime went well.
Everything after mealtime was a disaster though.
Would not recommend if you are looking for professionalism or a trustworthy vendor.
A family favorite for dinner, the food slaps. We change up our entrees all the time- but the beef laab salad is so incredible. My husband and I share an order every visit.
what a gem of a place! ordered takeout from them tonight and it did not disappoint. will be back soon to try the Pho.

Inside & out both need some tlc
Hidden gem, right off the interstate. Husband and I went for dinner. Decor is an old supper club vibe and I thought it might go either way. We sat at the bar and were given drinks immediately (3 of their 6 tap beers were out but they had an extensive selection regardless). Staff, I think the chef, came to take our order and answered all our questions and gave great recommendations. We ordered spring rolls to start. They took awhile but were delicious when they arrived and our food came shortly after. My curry was fresh, flavorful and really good. Husbands noodles were also fresh and delicious. Prices were very reasonable, staff was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious!
Always amazing food
Food was delicious
Waiters were nice. food was AMAZING. Arguably best pho in the wausau area. Food did come out slow but it was worth the wait☺️
What a surprise!!!We read the reviews so we knew it was going to be a fun little hole in the wall, it is far from fancy...
BUT the FOOD!!! Wow!!!! We ordered the Bao buns, Spring Rolls and Egg Rolls, they were made to order and so fresh and delicious, we are foodies, we've been enjoying the food in Wausau recently, and this place should be high on your list for Authentic Thai food. We will be back, probably once a week!!! 😋
Absolutely terrible experience here. It took an hour to get any food with only 3 small tables in the whole restaurant including us. The food was inedibly salty. The staff were too busy on their phones and quite rude. I wouldn't ever advise anyone to eat here. All around it deserves zero stars, but unfortunately that is not a possibility on Google.
It's based on the old chapter two bar but don't let the exterior fool you. Best food I've had in a long time and the owner/head chef newch was awesome. Sat down and chatted with us for a bit until it got busy. Stand up guy and the food...I wasn't expecting 5 star restaurant service but that's exactly what we got. The food was great, the atmosphere was great, even the plating was artistic. 5/5 recommend it
We have been to Newchs twice now and it’s fantastic! The mango dragonfruit refreshers have just the right amount of sweetness, the bahn mi loaded fries are unique and so good, and the entrees are delicious and full of bold flavors. Their portions sizes are great for the price (plenty of leftovers both times!), they get the food ready so fast, and the owner is super friendly! This place is truly a hidden gem like other reviews have said and we will definitely be back!
Food is very authentic with lots of flavors. I stop and get some food once a month. I like that the menu stays the same making it easy to have a favorite dish, but occasionally the chef may throw in some special dishes for the week.
The food here is awesome! One of the better Thai options in Wausau
This place is a gem of gems. Food is incredible. We went with 4 people and no one was disappointed at all. Highly recommend the chicken wings! The pho was fantastic as well. My wife loved her Thai Basil and Tomato fried rice, and our friends has some Bao Bun Bahn Mi Tacos that were described as next level awesome!
The lighting needs some work but the place makes up for it with charm and with the quality of the food. The chef takes time to mingle with you as a customer and I appreciated that and so did the two other guests. The boba is phenomenal and the place is just a fun overall atmosphere.
Food is great!
The food was absolutely AMAZING. Everything we had was great. The wet and dry wings were incredible. The pho was perfect. The green papaya salad one of the best I ever had. We will be back!
Great food, very nice.
I have mixed feelings...food is great which is why I'm giving 4 stars because I want to do 3 stars. The actual location and service leaves a lot to be desired. When we came in to eat the bar was full of regulars who you could tell were hammered mid day. The dining room is right next to the bar and the doors wide open. Super loud. I even had one drunk lady from the bar come in on her cell phone and start screaming to the person on the other line. I was looking at her and she said oh I am sorry am I interrupting your meal? uhhh yea!? then she kept talking. Another gripe I have is you get charged an insane amount of money for just a mt dew. Where most places do refills it was $8 for 2 sodas which I expected at least one refill lol. $8 is the price of an entire entre and when I spend it on a drink I will second guess getting one next time. Also like one person sain in the review when your server is acting at a bartender too it's time to rethink how the place works. Again great food I can't deny that. Not a place I want to take my kid because of the daytime bar crowd. Cant imagine what night time looks like.
Food was excellent service was very good. We will definitely be back highly recommend checking them out. It was so good ordered food to take home 😊
Amazing meal!!!! My partner tried chicken curry for the first time and loved it! We also got the Bao Buns and I had to try the blue gill fish fry. Wow! The breading on the fish was seasoned perfectly! Not greasy at all! Same with the French fries - surprisingly seasoned and yummy! The potato salad was some of the best I've had in a long time. I confirmed they made it in house. Just the right amount of dill and big chunks of egg. We will definitely be back!!!
An oasis in a culinary desert! Delicious Vietnamese (with a Hmong twist) and Thai options. The Pad See Ew was as good as I've had (and I've had a lot). This dude can cook and the service friendly and efficient.
The service was amazing. The food was soo good. The music and people at the bar were loud, but other than that we really enjoyed this place.
The most delicious fish fry. My husband had perch and I had walleye. Best coleslaw I have ever had . Egg rolls were outstanding. Definitely never had a bad meal yet.
We pulled up and thought we were at the wrong place. It is a bar in the middle of a neighborhood but we saw the sign and knew this was it. We decided to stay and check it out and let me say, BEST DECISION 👌!!! The food was absolutely fantastic. So much flavor and so fresh! We got the chickin curry, tum yum seafood soup, pad thai, and spring rolls.... omg SOOOO good and the price was extremely reasonable. Next time we are in Wausau, we will most definitely be back!
My husband ordered the Catfish currie and it was excellent. I ordered the Pad See Ew and it was good. I wish they would have stir-fried the noodles to give the noodles a little crispiness. It gives the noodles an extra dimension. The chili oil wasn't spicy. The waitress gave us no plates, napkins or silverware for our appetizers. The food was very good and even though the atmosphere wasn't great, I'd eat there again.
We love this restaurant! Delicious pho, spring rolls, wings, and fish fry. Fiancé loved the bánh cuốn and hope they serve it more often!
Delicious food!
Great food!
Food was soooo good! Great portions, presentation and wonderful flavors. Highly recommend
Service was excruciatingly slow — one person had to tend bar and wait tables, always a bad idea. The food was all right and my portion was generous.
A hidden gem. Have not had a bad experience. Food has been great and portion size is good. I appreciate how they will try to accomodate to your taste preference. I would come back again.
Had a great time!
Excellent food! I love the chicken pho. Reasonable prices too which is always nice. Highly recommend.
Amazing food! Started going almost every week!
Bao Buns!
Fantastic food and nice staff. Authentic taste with a couple twists.
Yes, This is exactly what I needed!! Loved the food, loved the spice, and loved how friendly everyone was! I think you just got a new regular! Thanks for the great dinner.
Great food.
Don't let the building or dead end road fool you, the food is amazing! We ordered spring rolls, pho, pad Thai and pad see ew. All of them were delicious. The service was top notch. We plan to come back soon and we told our friends in the area to become regulars!
Just wish they could get the order right.
A “must stop” if you think you’ve tried it all. Great food!
Casual tavern atmosphere with very good Thai food. Highly recommend
Pad Thai on point
Don’t judge this place by it’s location. At the end of a dead end road, surrounded by residential homes, this kitchen boasts some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. Everything we ordered we enjoyed. And we will again make the trip from Green Bay Area just for this amazing food!
The food is delicious. I recommend trying the bao buns. They are phenomenal
Their pork belly/pepper is the best I’ve ever had 🥲 nothing else compares.
an incredible thai/vietnamese menu. We aren't in this area often but will absolutely be back when we are.
Service was great and the wait was short. Short ribs were sweet and good just a little too pricy ($16). The sesame chicken was flavorful but was over cooked.
Visiting from out of town. Ordered takeout today. Sorry that this is three hours away. Excellent everything! I'm hoping for a return visit one day.
Very nice place. Good food friendly service. I recommend.
Delicious and fresh flavors!
Great food and service. Reasonable prices. Location isn't great, it's kind of hard to find and get to. It's also in what appears to be a bar/tavern which I wasn't expecting. Overall recommended.
Good restaurant.
Pad Thai was excellent! I got it with shrimp for an extra charge, but there was even more shrimp hidden under the noodles. I ordered it spicy (instead of medium) and somewhat underestimated Midwestern spice level because it came a bit hotter than I expected - but it was great! Not my favorite pad Thai sauce flavor, but maybe only missing some extra shallot and maybe more fish sauce? I've only experimented with making it a couple times and it's very hard to get it just right (and I suppose everyone has their own taste), but compliments to the chef because it was much better than many I have tried! The Thai Tea was a great bonus and completed the spicy meal very well. Will definitely eat here again if traveling through. My server, Paji, did everything she was supposed to and was giving very prompt service to all guests as they arrived. Very good at her job - she is a keeper!

Went here with my friend a while ago and ordered pad Thai and Thai tea. It was delicious! I felt pretty bad for the server because she was by herself.
Hmong pho was outta site!!!!!!!I loved it!!! Curry catfish was amazing!!! Service was great, food is exceptional!!!!!!!
Delicious food!! Friendly staff
Great Thai Food!
Just a short jaunt from downtown Newch's is your classic sports bar with an AMAZING Thai menu!

Everything I've ever tried has been fantastic but what keeps me coming back are the Bao Buns.
Just ate here and so glad I did. Food was fantastic and can't wait to go back. Ordered the bao buns, pad see ewe, pho and a banh mi. Everything was delicious and can't wait to come again. Had a nice porter on tap too.
Best Pho broth and Bahn MI that I've had in Wisconsin. Laid back atmosphere. Well orth the money.
Not open during marked hours.
Always delicious and memorable.
We ordered delivery through EatStreet and we were so impressed! Through EatStreet it gets to be a little pricey with the extra fees but I think we’ll be picking it up ourselves from now on so we can enjoy it more often! The egg rolls are delicious and the bahn mi sandwich was so flavorful. The fries have some sort of seasoning on them that is 🔥 my husband had a stir fry and loved it. Can’t wait until our next order to try something new!
Great authentic Asian cuisine. Blend of Thai and Vietnamese. We enjoyed the spring rolls, and mussels appetizers. Reasonable portions. I like the lychee boba tea. I got crispy pork belly entree with sticky rice. Husband got the steak Bahn Mi and a side of brisket Pho. Overall excellent for central Wisconsin. Everything tastes very fresh and obviously made to order.
The food was delicious and wasn't very expensive.
Heard about this place and wanted to try it out since we were in town. We ordered the chicken pad see ew, house sauce chicken wings, cucumber Salad, pad thai, and short ribs. The Short ribs was probably our best dish we had. It was caramelized perfectly. Pad thai is always a hit or miss at asian restaurants. Although, I didn't try my friend's pad thai; it didn't look appealing to eat. We did order the banh mi sandwiches to go. My friend ate it and said it was really good! I gave this place two stars because we waited about 30 mins for appetizers and almost an hour for our main entrees. Overall the food was decent.
Tasted good
Kind of a random location but definitely worth seeking out. Everything was delicious.
Little hole in the wall place! Was very skeptical at first because the outside of the building is run down but great place inside! Don't let the exterior turn ya away. Delicious food and great service! Reminds me of Vietnam Kitchen in Kentucky.
While on our way up north in May 2022, my boyfriend and I found this place, and we were glad we stopped!
I had the pork belly stir fry, and he had one of the curries. We both really enjoyed our food - everything had good flavor, texture, and tasted fresh!
Staff was friendly, and the portion of food to price seemed reasonable.
The building and physical space itself could use a bit of work, but we still really enjoyed our experience.
Amazing food, everything I have had was wonderful
The food was great and they made my father's birthday meal very special 😁
My husband got the curry and I had the pad see ew. For apps we had fresh spring rolls and bao buns. The food was beautiful, fresh and extremely delicious. If you love Thai food you'll love this place. I already can't wait to try more things from here!
We’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile after hearing great reviews from friends, and it certainly lived up to the hype! We loved the Bao Buns, Traditional Bahn Mi, Pad See Ew, Short Ribs, and Pho. We can’t wait to try more. This is definitely a new favorite spot and will be our go-to take out place in Wausau!
We ordered spring rolls, bao buns, banh mi, and pho. Each plate they brought us was better than the last! Everything tasted so fresh! We'll definitely be back!
Food was mediocre if you've had authentic Vietnamese food before. Also, the food is not worth the price they charged. The worst part was the attitude and service. I ordered to go and the amount should have come to $78+tx, but instead I was charged $101+change. When I saw the wrong amount I asked to review the charges, and while I was doing that, the waitress made a snide remark, within earshot, to another female worker about how she hates it when customers act like they have been overcharged. Well, as it turned out, I WAS overcharged. She charged me extra for several fries which I did not order. When I pointed that out to her, her excuse was that everybody orders fries with their banh mi. So she charged me for fries that I DIDN'T order or receive. Go elsewhere for your Vietnamese food fix. I'm writing as someone who's eaten plenty of authentic Vietnamese food from the Twin Cities.
Priced well and delicious.
Food was delicious but it took a long time to get
Delicious! We ordered the pho with beef, chicken pad Thai, orange chicken, and crab jasmine fried rice. The pho was amazing, as was the pad Thai. They used a clear sauce, which is how I like it. My son said the orange chicken was the best he ever had. The fried rice was super spicy, causing my husband to sweat all over. But, that is exactly what he was hoping for and before the burn sets in, the flavors are great! We will definitely be back
Don’t let the fact that it’s tucked behind a small residential area deter you from eating here, the food was fantastic! Definitely a hidden gem! We had spring rolls, baked mussels, pho 2, pad Thai with tofu and seafood tum yum soup (with an order of catfish curry to go). The staff was courteous as well! We were just passing thru, on our way home from visiting family, but we will certainly stop again in the future!
This is our go to Asian restaurant in Wausau! It's kind of located in the middle of nowhere and you would not know about it unless someone told you or you searched for it. However the food is outstanding and we frequent here almost once a week! 🥰
Amazing cuisine. The wings are amazing. Pho is incredible and I haven’t had a bad meal after three attempts! Definitely a favorite.
Best Thai food since Ku’s Wokery in Rib Mountain.
We are frequently in Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee and less so in Chicago. Always seek out the best Thai food. Newch’s is better than them all.
It’s authentic and oh so delicious. His Pad Thai is the best we’ve had in decades. The Tum Yum Pho is rich in flavor with plentiful shrimp. It may be traditional to serve shrimp shells on but I prefer only tail.
The restaurant interior could use some upgrades but my experiences have taken me to real dives for very best in food.
Fantastic banh mi and boba teas!
Service was awesome! Food was great. We will be back. The Boa Buns were that authentic Thai taste I have been looking for.
Close on February 22 2022 so I am unable to comment
Everything was really good! Everyone's dishes tasted good and the service was great also.
Delicious! Everything was amazing and great service! Location was sort of in-the-middle-of-nowhere but totally worth it.
Kind and friendly staff! Great food and atmosphere!
Holy smokes amazing! What a medicinal meal after a long day. One of the best restaurants.
Amazing food! Great atmosphere. Our server Lisa was exceptional! I cannot wait to come back and try more! Highly recommend!
Authentic Thai cuisine. Everything we've tried has been excellent!
Amazing food, Awesome staff!! Great explanation of the menu when i had a question!
Excellent Asian food and service. I went there on a recommendation that they have the best spring rolls in Wausau. I was treated by the staff very well and served quickly. All the food was tops. I'm already looking forward to returning and trying some other dishes. The location is a bit strange, but worth the drive there.
Good food with nice portions, will definitely stop there again!
Delicious! Had the pad thai, pho, bao buns, egg rolls, and bubble tea. Everything was amazing! We will absolutely be back soon!
The food was good
很local
Expectations were high based on reviews but it was big disappointment. Curry had generous portion but taste was average. Pho was just average as well. And pad thai was unbeatable - it was nothing like pad thai... Overall place was dirty, table was sticky and hair in the appetizer sauce only confirmed that (when we informed about the hair they didn't really care about it)
had better. i had better pad thai pad thai - wasnt very good, the noodles were not very good , seamed over or under cooked . the peanuts were white , and dry disapointed
Food was amazing.
Great food and great service.
The spring rolls, banh mi, pork platter, and pho are fantastic. I little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip.
Catfish curry is hearty and tasty. Also enjoyed the bao bun app.
Laid back dive bar atmosphere with a smiling staff and delicious food. Highly recommend by me.
We tried three kinds of Pho, Bahn Mi, Pad Thai, Cucumber Salad (spicy), Spicy Crab Fried Rice, Spring Rolls... and much more... everything was SO GOOD! We've traveled all over and had some great Thai and this was EXCELLENT. The vibe and service were perfect. We had a wonderful time and will make this a must stop every time we come through town.
The best Pho we have had in a very long time. We had a party of 8 so we tried most of the menu and everything was PERFECT! The service was wonderful! It's now our favorite restaurant in Wausau.
Stopped on our way through town. Great place to grab a bite to eat. Friendly staff great food! Got the pad kra pa and the red curry, both great dishes. Pad thi (was recommended) and short ribs were good too.
Great little stop, imagine Wisconsin bar mixed with vietnamese restaurant and you get this place. Decent food, a little on the pricy side for what you get but it's rare to find a vietnamese restaurant with a bar in this area so its definitely worth a stop. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The place could use an update at some point but they do keep it nice and clean and that's what counts. I had the Banh Mi and the papaya salad and it was excellent! The girlfriend had the chicken wings with the house sauce and they were also very good. I will definitely be coming back to try more of there menu items in the future.
Great place to hang out with friends/ families, food is great, service is awesome, and the owner Newch is super nice! Cleanliness was good and well organized.
Everything has been delicious and the portions are huge! I mean who gives you 4 quarts of soup? Prices are extremely affordable and I get at least three meals out of every meal I've had there. Great Thai food and a great bar.
I came for the food and stayed for the awesome staff. Great vibe, great food and overall just an awesome experience.
Echoing what everyone below said: Newch's is incredible. An oasis hidden among farm fields and houses serving delicious, well-crafted dishes in a comfortable, unpretentious atmosphere. Make this your stop if you are passing anywhere near Wausau
The food was good.
The bao bun was amazing...great phone as well..definitely a hidden little gem tucked away in a neighborhood...well worth the trip
Just moved to the area from Denver and was worried we wouldn’t have a lot of different options when it came to dining out. We stopped in to Newchs today and ordered Thai tea, brisket pho, and bao buns. They all exceeded our expectations, just as good if not better than the Vietnamese places we ate at in Denver. Delicious flavors in everything. I would 10/10 recommend to anyone. I’m already anxious to go back and try more.
Good food, wonderful people.
Good pho
Man I fkn love y’all food. Chicken bahn mi with fries
Great authentic Thai
Food is amazing!
