IMHO, this is the best Thai place in the city, and I’ve visited many.
The atmosphere is friendly and genuine. The owners were gone when I visited. The young lady, in charge during their absence, has excellent listening skills and customer service skills.
I ordered drunken noodle and egg rolls. The food is a taste sensation!! All fresh and I asked her to make basil, garlic and ginger pronounced: the cooks outdid themselves.
I’ll be back and I’ll be bringing new guests.

I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai. Portion size was great, food was ready at the time they said and food hot when I picked it up.

This place used to be great. The quality has gone down. They barely add any chicken to the noodle dishes, don't pay the extra for a protein because you don't get any. The fried wontons suck, and they never give you the right side sauces you order.

Update: Favorite is still the Pad Krapow. Portions are great. Price is reasonable. The Thai Hot is decently hot but I'd just call it Hot. Still think it could be a lot hotter and then we would have Thai Hot 🔥

Then tried the Pad Krapow with Thai Hot, which was fairly hot but overall neither dish was as hot as I'd like it to be. Didn't see anyone dining in when I went to pickup each time. One issue I have with the interior is the musty odor, which was present during both visits.

EDIT: we got pineapple fried rice MILD and it was perfect! I will ask for a side of chili pepper next time! This place is a gem!We had egg rolls, pad thai with chicken- it was amazing, pineapple fried rice, comes with chicken and shrimp, so delish!!! Medium was too spicy for us, next time we'll do little spicy. Definitely will eat here again.

I got a pickup order from them and uber eats wouldn’t let me review them for whatever reason but this food is so damn good I had to come here to give them their flowers. Definitely recommend eating here but if you don’t that means more for me so I guess that’s fine too :D

The best Thai food in Richmond, hands down! They actually give you the food you pay for.

I just ordered the Pad Thai and the shrimp in a blanket, blah, I definitely have had better and won’t be going back. My food taste funky, when I bite into the shrimp blankets all I taste is funk, the Pad Thai is nothing but hot and I ordered the medium spice. Very bland, I’m about to throw away $40 of food. Very disappointed and I was really hungry too! Now I’m just Hangry!!

The food was exceptional. I ordered beef basil and was very pleased. Others in our group are vegan and they were very accommodating. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is open only for takeout, however they allowed us to use the inside tables for our takeout. Would highly recommend!!

Wow!! Just amazing spring rolls, although they call them egg rolls! They are so crispy, tender inside and delicious sweet and sour sauce!! They didn't make it to the plate. We ate them out of the to go box. :)

10/10 must try! Esann Thai is the real deal! We got stir fried rice, pad see ew, the ginger stir fry, and a side of peanut sauce. Everything we had was a 10/10 even with everything very mild (the flavor is there without having to overcompensate with heat). Huge portions and the ginger stir fry already comes with its own side of rice. I drove 20 mins one way and will do it again from now on for Thai food.

Have been getting takeout here for 4 years-it is always fresh, delicious, and fast. The owners are wonderful. I usually get a lunch portion and it lasts me 2+ meals.

There is no sign outside or in google regarding no dine in policy. We have been there twice in last 1 year to have food there but then you know that you can only do takeout.

Maybe caught them on an off night, but the food was tasteless. Ordered the Triple delight and I knew I was eating because my mouth was full and I was chewing, but my taste buds were completely removed from this activity. Portion size was very large which just meant there was more to throw away. Only struggled through about 25% of it before discarding the rest.

This place is a hidden gem. So good! I've never been dissapointed with anything I have ordered. My favorites are the drunken noodles, Tom Yum soup, and dumplings.The staff was super friendly as well.

No idea how these reviews are so good. Pretty sure they used frozen pees, corn and green bean mix in my curry!?! The lemongrass was overpowering and the mild spice was non existent. The shrimp were mushy and I almost gagged. At least they took the tails off like I asked. That have them 1 stars.

You usually have to go downtown Richmond or the far west end for a good Thai or Vietnamese restaurant. Fortunately, this is closer to home and thankfully it's good.

Really good food and very reasonably priced. I had the Pad Kra Pow with tofu. Spicier than what I expected, which was an enjoyable surprise, but avoid this particular dish if you are not a fan of the heat. I think I'm going to get takeout again from here tomorrow! :)

I just finished eating takeout and wow that was super fresh! The spring roll was still hot and crunchy. The salad was fresh and crisp. The cashew nut lunch was simply delicious. All my veggies were crisp tender and the sauce had the perfect amount of heat. Two of my coworkers also ordered lunch and they were also blown away by the freshness and flavor. I've been looking for a Thai Restaurant that serves a curry that doesn't taste like tomato soup. Walking into the place, we were greeted with a warm welcome. The atmosphere was pleasant and the server was extremely cordial. She brought us our salads and some spring rolls( crispy not soggy like some places( 8/10 on a spring roll review)). I ordered the Yellow Curry after spending a long period of time deciding between the green, red and yellow. The food came out fast and the curry was delicious. I like my curry hot and it delivered. Great service, great food and overall fun atmosphere. Highly suggest this a lunch spot for anyone who likes Thai Food.

Food was good, but found hair in the rice, ruined the meal. I paid for chicken wings, but when I got home saw that it was not in the bag. Called them and they said they forgot to tell me they were out and didn't refund my money.

This place was great the first few times. Last time I went, the food was way off. Didn't include vegetables that said would be in the meal on the menu, the rice seemed old and/or overcooked, the flavors were not great, and to boot, the woman serving it had no mask on. Could have been an off night but I won't be back to try again.

Very good and expensive food. Staff does not wear masks even when greeting take-out customers nor when preparing food. There is no plexiglass shield at counter. Their son lives in the dining area (and also does not wear a mask). This is a strip mall restaurant and you get what you get. Two stars for 1) expense and 2) non-compliance with state mandates.

It was very good, I will say the knife work on the perfectly stir fried veggies was beautiful, and every piece on my chicken pad Thai was cooked perfectly. However, I ordered medium spice, which is two down from Thai hot, and it melted my face off. To make sure I hadn't lost my taste for spicy foods, I had a roommate and a friend try it and neither could even eat it.. I did finish the rest, but needed a sweat towel.. Thai is so hard to get the spice consistent, so I will definitely try again.

Pretty tasty. I would order from them again. I ordered the red curry. I like really spicy and ordered hot. You never know for sure how spicy it is with Thai. It wasn't as spicy as I'd like, so next time I'd order Thai hot. I also really liked the basil in the curry.

The panang curry and veggie basil dish tasted very good. Will return. However, the menu says that the curry has bell pepper, green beans, peas, carrots, baby corn. I ordered chicken with it and only got bell pepper slices, not what was described.

Ordered the Panang Curry and I was surprised that it had Frozen mixed veggies of green beans, corn, peas which is not normal for traditional Panang Curry. Most of the time its carrots onions, so to me it made the dish taste a off. The spice level was fine for me for others it might be to hot.

The most disgusting Pho I've ever had. I ordered extra basil and was give one sprig and it was black and wilted. When I called the restaurant to express my concern I was met with tons of excuses as if this was my first time ordering Pho. I spent $40.00 because and that is the last $40 that Eatshit Thai will EVER GET FROM ME

In the wall authentic return to. Listen to the servers when they tell you to not make it more spicy, if I had done what I initially wanted to it would have completely washed out my ability to taste and enjoy the food. This is my new go to Thai restaurant!

This place is tucked away in a busy shopping center and I can see how it would be easily overlooked. However, since they've reopened I've been a number of times. The owners are friendly and welcoming, they take pride in the food they make. The food is consistently good & fresh. My favorite it pad thai & tom kha soup. They also have great lunch specials. I would definitely recommend.

Had lunch there and it was absolutely fantastic! Their yellow curry is delicious with the perfect level of spice and the mixed vegetables with chicken was SO good! Great prices too and good service. Definitely my new go to Thai place!

I waited a little under 10 minutes before my order was even taken, after my order was taken and paid for I then waited literally an hour and 6 minutes before my order was handed to me (I was offered a drink smh) I only ordered 2 Thai fried rice. It was not busy, but there was only one person taking orders and serving. After getting home and trying it, I was very disappointed. It didn’t taste like anything. After this experience I will stick to going to ithaiz on courthouse road. The high rating definitely didn’t living up to its promise.

My husband and our friends ate a late dinner here last night and it was delicious! The shrimp blankets were awesome as well as the egg rolls. Both have a super great flavor. I ordered the Curry dish that has a peanut sauce and it was the best thing I have eaten in a long time. My husband had salmon and he absolutely loved it. The restaurant is super clean and the owners as well as the staff are extremely polite and friendly. My husband is an extremely picky eater and likes to eat pretty basic, boring food but he has already asked to go back! He loved it. We both highly recommend this restaurant. It will definitely be one of our favorites and we will eat here often.

Most other Thai restaurants I’ve tried in the Richmond area have been good but they all seemed to be afraid to serve me truly spicy food when requested. I get it, most people that live around here probably think the chic fil-a spicy sandwich is too hot. I’ve ordered from them under old management and when I asked for Thai-hot it wasn’t at all spicy. Today I thought I’d give them another shot and requested my noodles to be very hot and finally my dish was hot enough to make me sniffle. Still not tear-jerking like I used to get it overseas but I’m definitely happy. Great taste too and speedy service.

Great, reliable, and very tasty. We order online for takeout about once a month. I loved the Pad Thai enough to keep ordering it, but I recently tried their Papaya Salad and it was out-of-this world good. Complex, fresh, and very unique flavors!

Esann Thai Restaurant is a hidden treasure!!! I’ve been there a few times, and recently just last night (8/9/19). The owners are very nice. The food is very authentic, and tastes great! I love spicy food and always order Laab Chicken, Drunken Noodles and Papaya Salad (all Thai spicy). I recently ordered Pho with meatballs & steak noodle soup and it was so delicious! I definitely recommend this restaurant if you love authentic Thai food.

We come from Thailand and up until now have been very disappointed with the Thai restaurants we've visited. The new owner of Eesan Thai is from Chiang Mai and she presents superb Thai dishes. Not sweetened and bland, just genuine Thai cuisine. She hasn't yet got her liquor licence which is a drawback but I'm sure she'll get it soon. If you live in the area you should support her, it's a little gem.

Best Pad Thai I have had in years! The sauce is the perfect blend of sweet and tangy and is so flavorful. I have also had the green curry which is also wonderful. The new owner is very friendly and welcoming.

I heard great things about this place, but the food was just ok. Chicken satay, drunken noodles, yellow curry, and Thai fried rice. Food was just ok. Potatoes and carrots in my yellow curry came out raw. Other people's food was adequate. Had to keep asking for water refills, though there was two waitstaff and only two tables with customers. Small child, presumably a relative of employee, was wondering around restaurant barefoot.. Won't be back here...

This is the third reopening ( new management) of this restaurant since I've moved to the area in November 2017. By far, Essan now is one of the BEST thai restaurants on the south side. I usually travel to the west end or D.C. to eat great thai, but now I'm only 5 minutes away. The seasonings and flavors of their food is truly fresh and authentic.

Yes, there are still some kinks they are working through (like consistency with spice level) however, I am still very much satisfied.

The owner Tiny is very nice and open for suggestions. She is willing to address and correct any concerns. I hope this new management will be around for awhile. Thanks Essan...you finally got it right.😀

I'm always looking for good Asian food on the Southside because it's hard to find. Esann Thai is amazing and family friendly. Please support local business and enjoy some awesome food.

I've been going to this location on and off for the last several years, and it has changed hands several times in those years. I eat Thai often while travelling and locally. New owners about 1 month ago, relocated cross country, and the food is as good as any previous owner at this location or elsewhere I've eaten while travelling. Glad the new owners are here to keep a top quality Thai place for us in South Midlo! Oh, and the family's very sweet little boy greeted us at the door. Extra bonus!

We had the pleasure of eating at Esann Thai restaurant 2 weeks ago.

Having been to Thailand many times, I found the food to be authentic and delicious.

The staff was warm and friendly and attended to our every need. They were also very fast without cutting corners.

I highly recommend Esann if you want authentic Thai food that is fast and friendly.

Trying all the local thai spots and this one is by far the best one! The Tom Kha had a great smell and taste to it. The garlic chicken had an amazing spiciness to it. Great consumer service and welcoming vibe. Would recommend anyone and everyone to try this place!

It was delicious...the best Shrimp Pad Thai I ever had. New Management bring taste and style. Plate was beautiful and full of flavor. Friendly staff takes it to the next level. Food actually looks like the pictures on the menu.

I visited this restaurant about 3 weeks ago and promised I would post comments. I had lunch there with my friend and we enjoyed ourselves. This was our first visit there. The service was spectacular and the food was perfectly prepared. We had Thai Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, Thai Shrimp Fried Rice, and orange tea & coffee drinks. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, it’ll be a nice treat, I’m sure you are deserving of. I’ll be going back very soon.

Esann is our new go-to for Thai in Midlothian. They have excellent balances of flavors and good service.

Excellent flavors and service in this hidden gem off Hull St. Rd. Just stumbled upon it running errands. The owner is a very warm and gracious hostess. The space is bright and clean. They just reopened under new ownership April 2019.

Pleasantly surprised by E-Sann. Don't let the location or appearance of this place fool you. Hole-in-the-wall restaurants are always the best. The food here was excellent! Service was superb. Don't listen to the older reviews on here. They have a new owner/management and have obviously turned the place around. Try it!!!

Food was delicious, service was great! I will say, it would be nice if the temperature was brought down in the restaurant, it was awfully warm. That being said, I would definitely come back for the food and service!!

Great food! Pad Thai and Pad See Ewe were delicious. Egg Rolls and Shu Mai apps are a must! Will be coming back!

Just the best food from anywhere

Chef prepared outstanding dish, very eager to followup on how I liked my order and made a lasting impression on me. This Thai restaurant has great potential. It'll be a new stop for lunch.

No straws. No napkins. Had to get our own menus. Rice was old and mall food court quality.

Had one of the Entrees, it was the one with jalapenos and bell peppers. Tasted very good and all the ingredients tasted fresh and the service was very kind and courteous. The only reason for not rating 5 stars was the coke tasted a little strange. The cost was 15 dollars and still worth it.

Went on a Monday with my wife. Just us. After a bit another couple, obviously regulars as they said they needed no menus, came in. The service was good, the food was reasonably priced, and was excellent! They were interested in authenticity. Enjoyed speaking to the server about Thai cooking.

My wife is half Thai, and we know our Thai food. This restaurant has great Thai food, and great service. Whether we are eating in or taking out, we always have great results. They even let my wife order off menu, her favorite Lad Na dish. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.
