Curbside Pickup Only
This was one of my favorite places to eat back when I lived here so I was excited to pick some up while in town. I miss being able to dine in but the pick up was fast, only took about 10 minutes from order to pickup for 3 meals. The panang curry was just as delicious and flavorful as I remember and the soup and tapioca pudding were delicious as always. Serving sizes seemed a little smaller than I remembered and I miss getting 2 meals out of a single order for about $13 including tip but I can’t blame Thai 99 for inflation.
What happened to Thai 99? This place used to be so good. I hate leaving bad reviews but feel like they need to improve and quickly.
We got Thai fried rice, which was incredibly bland. There was a tiny bit of seasoning on top, not mixed in. Barely any vegetables, maybe 3 broccoli? Also got the drunken noodles which was better, but still bland. I know they can do much better than this, very disappointed.
i hate to leave a negative review, but it was such an underwhelming and disappointing meal that i can’t leave it be. for almost $50, my mom and me got the vegetarian rolls, pork thai fried rice, red curry and tapioca pudding.
the rolls claimed to have vermicelli noodles, and there was at BEST a tsp worth. it was mainly bland lettuce wrapped in rice paper. the sweet chili sauce was overpowering sweet, with no spice and no peanuts, when they were listed as a topping.
the thai fried rice was bland, veggies were not properly cooked and the pork looked (and tasted), unseasoned and boiled. they also didn’t mix the spice with the rice and when i took a bite, it was a scolding burn in my mouth. really sad. it even looked unappetizing, but i tried to give them the benefit of the doubt.
my mom got the red curry and she enjoyed it somewhat, but said she’d had a lot better. it was absolutely the best of the 3 things we’d had so far, for sure. i did take a couple bites of her rice when my mouth was on fire, and it was clearly unwashed, and had no butter or salt added when cooked.
we finished with the tapioca pudding, and to their credit the flavor was great. tapioca pearls were cooked right, coconut milk wasn’t too sweet and the combo was very comforting. the only complaint with the pudding was it wasn’t a pudding at all. it was such a watery/runny consistency.
we love good thai food, and lynchburg has some great options. unfortunately this is not one. and for the price we paid we expected something much nicer than we got. it’s very sad to be this disappointed in a small business.
i will say that our curbside pick up employee was very sweet, and helpful and attentive. i was thankful for her.
all in all, i will not be back. and i wouldn’t recommend it either.
Very clean and presentable. Very attentive staff, they greeted me as soon as I came through the door. The menu is small but all of it seems good. I had the Beef Pad Khing. It came with soup as an appetizer and tapioca pudding for desert. Very reasonable price too. My only nit pic is that this seems like any Chinese restaurant you find around here. I've had Thai food in Seattle and it's distinguishably different, better in my opinion. Still a great place to eat and I'd highly recommend it.
Great Takeout. Great Portions. Amazingly tasty. Yellow Curry is spot on, Thai Coffee is lovely. Enjoy!
I had low expectations to begin with, but this is just bad. There is absolutely no flavor to the pad see ew. When I first opened the container I could tell immediately. The noodles were PALE. Pad see ew is a stir fried noodle dish. I'm assuming this means they just cooked the noodles and then poured some sauce on afterwards. Noodle texture is okay, but it's just salty. There's no wok hei, hardly any fish sauce, hardly any oyster sauce. The panang curry is okay, but is lacking some creaminess.
I have had better Thai a few times elsewhere. The Thai tea was awesome so was the Mango sticky rice. We ordered over $70 worth of food and the drunken noodles hardly had flavor the curry was watery. The soups were flavorful and better than the entrees but nothing special. The dumplings were stuffed well and had a good flavor. 3 stars because the price didn’t match the flavor or quantity or quality.
The food here is amazing & the curbside delivery in the rain was very appreciated.

Great Takeout. Great Portions. Amazingly tasty. Yellow Curry is spot on, Thai Coffee is lovely. Enjoy!
They should name the restaurant to Thai 101 since they do not know how Thai food is prepared. The worst Thai food in America would be this place. Flavors were lacking for Red curry and Basil fried rice. They also left egg shell and hair in the food. We had to discard the food. Server was not nice either and did not even provide napkins or silverware for a place that only do pickups. The location is kinda sketchy as well with abandoned buildings around. I do not know how this place has an overall 4+ rating unless those ratings are old or just artificial paid ratings. Anyways I would not recommend to anyone.
Food was terrible and not worth the money. The food tasted very bland like it had no seasoning. The service was terrible and we received no napkins or silverware. When asked for a couple of napkins only received 2 napkins and silverware when we aren’t even from around this town so we really needed the napkins and the silverware. What were we expected to eat with our hands? The place looked like a shady place and like it was an abandoned building with no sign to locate this business. Not worth a visit at all. I asked for spicy food and the food wasn’t spicy at all.
Rarely get to come here, but I picked up lunch today and it was awesome per usual. I really enjoy the yellow curry, but everything I've sampled has been great!
I have had better Thai a few times elsewhere. The Thai tea was awesome so was the Mango sticky rice. We ordered over $70 worth of food and the drunken noodles hardly had flavor the curry was watery. The food is delicious! Our favorite is the green curry, and if you haven't tried the Thai tea, you definitely should.
The signs telling you to stay in your car make it feel like they're hiding a dirty building, but the top notch flavor hasn't changed over time, so I keep coming.
MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN LYNCHBURG
I used to love this place. The food is great!
Then I read the heath inspector's recent report. I won't trouble your appetites, but…. I'm sick thinking I ever ate here. 🤮
Love this place! Best Thai food I’ve had and my favorite restaurant. I miss the dine in so much!! But the food is so good that I don’t mind getting it to go. Definitely get the egg rolls
I love their lunch special with the tapioca and soup. My only complaint is that the lunch specials as well as Thai tea aren’t available for delivery. I would order literally once a week if they were. With my work hours I can’t make it by during their open hours. I just can’t eat Penang curry without Thai tea lol! But the food is amazing in my experience.
It was take out. It's interesting... There is practically no signage you wait in your car for them to bring it out. Still hot when I got home and very delicious. I had the Thai Noodle Soup. Medium hot and that was enough for me. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I'm glad I ordered the dinner portion for lunch!
Amazingly authentic Thai food
Can't speak to atmosphere since they're pick up only, but their food is really dang good!
Genuinely the most bland thai food I’ve had in my life. Such a disappointment & waste of money but lived up to small town ethnic food standards I guess.
I got chicken pad thai that was full of bland chicken. When first opening the container the noodles has no sauce on them..it was all at the bottom and had to be mixed in. Weird but okay.
I also got an order of fried vegetables rolls. The menu says they come with 5 but only got 3. They were VERY crispy, the veggies inside weren’t fresh and cut to thick. If I knew I’d be paying $2 a roll I would’ve passed on getting them.
The only semi decent thing about the meal was the sauce that came with the vegetable rolls. I was going to go back to get the fresh vegetable rolls but will probably pass.
Very mediocre , dry noodles with no flavor , and expensive to boot .
Good Thai basil fried rice! The portion was perfect for lunch and was ready upon my arrival at the restaurant. The price was $24 which is a good fair price for the area. That included lunch for my wife as well as myself. No real complaints at all. The restaurant utilizes curb side service for all to go orders which I found to be convenient. I look forward to my return to Thai99.
Obsessed with the vegetable soup
Quick and easy Thai take out. Just pull up and they bring it to you. In and out within 5 minutes.
This place is currently take away only. Still worth it, they are prompt in checkin on you when you pull up. The food is amazing!! I cannot wait to go back and try more. Definitely call in an order of your fave Thai dishes, they won't disappoint!!
Wish they were a little closer to my side of town, but the food is delicious. Been going for years!
Owner is diligently working. No indoor seating due to not enough help, but takeout service is great!
The food tastes fine, it’s just not spicy. I ordered Thai Hot and I got home and added my own hot sauce and spices to it. I’ll stick with Thai Ty
Always great, highly recommend the green and panang curry
I had low expectations to begin with, but this is just bad. There is absolutely no flavor to the pad see ew. When I first opened the container I could tell immediately. The noodles were PALE. Pad see ew is a stir fried noodle dish. I'm assuming this means they just cooked the noodles and then poured some sauce on afterwards. Noodle texture is okay, but it's just salty. Our favorite Thai place!!! Fast and friendly service, with consistently delicious food!!
I was soo excited to try Thai food for the first time. I was pretty disappointed. I paid $17 for a small bowl of noodles with 4 pieces of shrimp that just tasted spicy with no other flavor, just spice. I won’t go back
My favorite Thai dish is panang curry. I'm quite picky with it too. I look for a certain level of viscosity, and they nail it at this place. I will say that their Pad Thai is not good. At all. And yet despite that, I still give them a 5 star review because of their curry and other tasty dishes.
The mixed vegetables with tofu are phenomenal!!! Kudos to the cook!
My favorite place to eat in the Burg! The best pad Thai, soup, and tapioca dessert around!!!
Food was delicious and people were really nice
They have the best red curry in the world! That's all I ever get, except for sometimes I get the yellow curry or the green curry! And their Thai fried rice is also amazing!
Amazing pad Thai. Great service!
Good: the food was good, and they got my food out quickly even though I technically ordered and arrived before they opened.
Bad: they either only give silverware on request or forgot mine.
Best Thai food in town. Highly recommend!
Best green curry and sticky rice
Tofu was perfectly cooked, not overcooked, not greasy. The veggies and spring rolls were fresh.
Menu is confusing for those new to Thai food. Three stars for not identifying menu offerings with pictures on their website. Not sure what “Main” represents. Also, judging by customer photos, the dessert tapioca appears to be a sweet soup. Looking forward to my meal. Just not sure what I’m getting.
The food is great. The prices are a tiny bit high. The owners do a great job. The college student help is not as attentive. Portions and extra items show up when the owners tend to my order. They are very kind and welcoming.
Edit to the below- great improvement over the last 2 months. I upgraded to 5 stars and want to recognize the improvement.
Old- The younger personnel act like they just want to get rid of us. They barely answer the phone, don't want to provide a menu, and the order is different each time depending on who is working.
Delicious Thai food. Made fast and you get broth and coconut drink with your dish - hope they have indoor seating again soon.
Always delicious!
I'm from the Northeast, where the Thai flows aplenty. I have heard of Thai '99 from so many people who loved it. Eager to try it, my wife and I ordered it for dinner one day.
The appetizers were fantastic! We had curry puffs and dumplings. They were super delicious. Absolutely worth it!
For our dinner, my wife order fried rice and I the Pad Woon Sen. The fried rice wasn't fried, it was pretty much rice with veggies. It tasted fine but wasn't the authentic experience we wanted. My Pad Woon Sen was soupy and not very flavorful. It tasted like vegetables again. Both dishes did not any Thai flavor and were basically as Americanized as could possibly be.
Honestly, none of it was bad! It just wasn't what we are used to. Probably should have considered Lynchburg before ordering. I'm not sure that I'd come back. I rate 2 stars because the appetizers were just that good. Otherwise, it's a no from me.
Great for take-out during Covid. Only order Thai got if you reeeeaaaalllly like spicy.
Ordered take out a few days ago. Our order was prepared quickly and was ready when we arrived about 15 minutes later. We got lemongrass soup, red curry and pad woon sen. The curry was the best part of the meal. However, we ordered "thai hot" and it was barely spicy. I am by no means a chili-head, but even I didn't feel it was spicy. Our other dishes were too flavorless and disappointing.
Love, love, love this restaurant A+++ this where I go to eat my heart out! The service is great but the food is amazing..They offer a huge menu of authentic dishes and recipes that taste so fresh. Very happy customer always.. Unfortunately u can't dine in at this time but u can order to go its gonna be the best to go meal ever!!
Grabbed take out tonight and was not disappointed! Everything we had was absolutely delicious! Our order included Vegetable Rolls (fresh, crisp rolled greens and other veggies, to dip in a chili sauce), Chicken Penang Curry, Shrimp Pad Thai. Our family loved every bite and are looking forward to lunch left overs tomorrow! The portions for dinner are huge, PLENTY for two meals! As far as spice, we ordered Medium for Pad Thai and for one of the Chicken Penang and one Hot. The medium had a nice heat/bite, the hot was a fabulous bang of heat! My husband was thrilled they nailed the "hot, but not so hot you cant eat it!".... they offer "Thai hot", not sure I'd attempt that but for those brave souls, I'm impressed!
We are grateful for curbside service, and for great food!
Best panang curry!!
The food was awesome. Give it a try.
Super tasty Thai. Great service and extremely friendly and thoughtful staff. Good options for vegetarians (tofu, etc). Currently take out only, just call ahead. They make the food quickly, our order was about 10 minutes.
Good food , friendly service!!
Food is always fresh and delicious! Staff is very pleasant and polite.
We have been eating here for years. Tried some of the other ones in town but this one is still the Best.
Everything is wonderful here!
Had a good red curry. I usually get medium spice at Thai restaurants, got the hot here and it was just right, so not the hottest but nicely flavored.
It used to be great but the taste of the food has become very average.
I just ordered take out and THERE WAS A FULL GROWN COCKROACH IN MY BAG!! I watched it crawl out when I opened it in my car to check and make sure the order was right! Almost had a panic attack!
Never Again!
Fast service, great tasting Thai food! I'll go again
The Volcano Chicken was good but pricey. Also, the bathrooms could use some improvements.
Thai 99 is super clean, omg the food is THE BEST
Perfect atmosphere with cuisine to match.
Great food, great people
Love this place! The food is great!
Delicious food, good service and customer oriented! Kid friendly too. We loved the Thai red curry, pad Thai and coconut ice cream with sticky rice. Looking forward to visiting again!
My favorite entree is the Thai Lover. But the best thing is the tapioca dessert! Don't let the exterior scare you off.
Good food and above average service
The yellow curry is the bomb!
The food at Thai 99 was amazing! Perfectly flavored and almost no oil... just fresh food and spices... the way food should be!
Best lunch spot in town
Food was good and a great price, only thing is that I wish they had more veggies in some of their dishes.
Loved it here. Always good Thai food. Delicious and authentic. Good prices and good Thai ice tea and coconut soup too.
Always awesome, my go to Thai food.
Excellent food very good
Excellent Thai and friendly service! We loved it. Try the Lamb special
Oh my! The most excellent food. I am allergic to mammalian products and I was able to order nearly everything on the menu. So refreshing to not have to question everything. We ordered the medium spice...just right. We were welcomed warmly and waited on by a lovely young woman. We will certainly go back. Soon.
Very nice people, food was fast and good
Delicious peanut sauce
Love their basil fried rice. If you can handle spice, make sure you ask for their spicy tray! Their samosas are wonderful too. I love this place(:
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Charlottesville. You can specify the level of spice you want including Native Thai (extremely spicy). They will provide a spice tray on request. Everything I have had there from Pad Thai to Drunken Noodles has been great. Nice relaxed atmosphere too.
Amazing food! Really friendly staff. Try the green iced tea!!!
Love their peanut sauce chicken.
The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the service is great! Thai 99 is definitely one of my regular spots!
I NEVER EVER EVERR wrote any review for any restaurant before no matter how bad they were. I usually just let it go and move on. However, this restaurant is the worse! So bad that I have to share on Google Review! I have never eaten any restaurant this BAD before in my life before. We ordered food today, 3/4/19 and I am an Asian who grew up eating Thai food. We ordered many variety of dishes and had it delivered using DoorDash (got charged twice). We ordered everything HOT(spicy), some Thai-HOT, but none of the dishes were remotely hot/spicy. The rice was under-cooked and hard, the curry was heavily watered down and barely tasted coconut. Pad-Grapao (with adding ingredients) was completely missing from my order, drunken noodle was dry, tasteless, missing basil, and sweet instead of spicy. Ruam-mit was missing completely. Mango custard and sticky rice had no mango whatsoever, sticky rice was over-cooked and mushed like mush potato. Everything about this order was BAD! If i could give less than 1 stars i would have done it, -5 Star. Everything was just terrible! Thai food should be rich in flavor and full with spices but these food they gave to us is just so blend, dry, and so DISAPPOINTING!
Never again!
Great hole-in-the-wall place with amazing food! This is our go-to take-out spot in Lynchburg. The staff is great and always quick.
Wow, so cheap for the taste and for a three course meal. Been there a lot and will keep coming back, for sure.
No wait, quick and friendly service, great options for vegans/vegetarians! Such fast food service as well! Had such a great experience I will go back again this week! Great prices too!
Quaint place with a traditional simple Thai menu
Great food!
Amazing Thai taste great people and great prices I will visit this restaurant every chance I get.
This Thai restaurant is a hidden gem in Lynchburg. Pretty good food and friendly staff.
It's a good restaurant when I want something good and different
Garbage
Great Thai food, excellent for vegan dishes.
The food is amazing! The service is fantastic and the prices are awesome. I recommend this place for Thai
Always great food with excellent service!
Best Thai food in Lynchburg - don’t let the location fool you. Their red curry alone is worth a weekly visit. Also, ask for the spice tray, which will let you bring the heat up to your preference.
All in all, Thai ‘99 is the only place to go in Lynchburg for real, authentic, top level Thai cuisine. There are no other options.
Shrimp hot pot was really good.
Really good and authentic thai food
Great food and service
It's all fantastic but the panang curry is amazing.
We are from out of town and were craving Thai. Not the best I've had but it fulfilled the craving and was tasty. Service was SUPER awesome and the food came out very fast.
Lunch portions were generous and fairly priced.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, accommodating staff. Really enjoyed this place and will be back again!!
Very good eat in Thai spot. To go portions are small and hit or miss. Pad grapao, drunken noodle, and pineapple fried rice are delightful
Great food with an intimate atmosphere. I was surprised there was no one else there on a Wednesday night around seven.
Best Thai restaurant in town! Food is always delicious! Good service! Would recommend if you are looking for a Thai restaurant.
The fried rice with chicken was decent but nothing special. The drunk noodles are crunchy bits like sand in it.
Awesome thai food. I had the cashew chicken dish, so good. Also, they serve tasty soup and tapioca pudding for dessert. Servers brought the food out quick! I would defiantly come here again.
Some of the best Thai in town.
Excellent food, service, and hospitality. THE place for Thai in Lynchburg. Always a pleasure.
Great food and great service. Unassuming location, but the food is superior to Ty Thai.
Awesome food!
Panang Curry is really good Pad Thai needs some work. Service is good and the lunch special is on point.
The food is so delicious!
Exceptional Thai cuisine and friendly service. Meal comes out quickly but prepared to your liking. I highly recommend. My favorite dish is Panang Curry with chicken.
Customer service was absolutely amazing and the food even better! The Resturant is extremely clean, menu is up to date and easy to read. The fresh plants and vase on each table is a lovely touch.
Food is what you’d expect, not too bad, but every meal I’ve had here is microwaved before being brought to the table. This results in cold spots and the signature “microwave after taste.” I really wish I could recommend this restaurant, as it’s been operational for many many years and is somewhat of a Lynchburg classic, but there’s too many better Thai places in the city.
Good food and great prices. Great place for lunch. No waiting.
Found hair in green curry....
Best Thai in Lynchburg!
Love the food very clean and great price
The food was simply scrumptious and the service was fantastic.
I like it.
Great experience. Service was excellent. Our waiter Sam was a pleasure.
This place is AWESOME! Used to eat there 2-3 days a week, but I moved to California. Boy I miss it!I always come whenever I come back, because nothing is as good as Patty' s Thai food. You can't leave without a fried banana or mango sticky rice.
Favorite Thai place! I'm a vegetarian and this place is amazing and fresh! Lunch is the best there, with a soup and dessert with entree. Though dinner is pricer it's well worth it too. I've never had a complaint in 15 years. My husband has a severe shellfish allergy and its never been a problem here.
Years ago I ate at this restaurant and thought the food was decent. My own recollection betrayed me today. None of the items I ordered tasted like what it should. Pad Thai, rice, appetizer, you name it. My theory is that one of the following happened: One, the chef is on vacation and one of the employees, who has never cooked before, was left in charge of the kitchen. Two, someone made the food by watching Youtube videos. Three, they decided to surprise one of the customers of the day with abysmal quality food and I was the lucky one. Don't see myself going back here anytime soon or ever.
The food is excellent and large portions!
Tasty Thai food, we really enjoyed our dishes. Generous portions and good price.
Decent food. The spice level isn't as hot as I would want (got Thai Hot) but the food was not anywhere near bad.
Excellent food and service,
Best Thai in Lynchburg!
Always impressed with the quality of the food and the speed of service here, have been eating here for 10+ years and the service and quality have always been exceptional.
