This lively, unfussy spot offers traditional & southern Thai dishes, plus popular cooking classes.
I ordered takeout today with Uber. The fried rice with crab meat and shrimp was good but a bit less flavorful than I expected. For the Tom Yum soup, I chose the American spicy version, which is milder—perfect for someone like me who doesn’t like spicy food. The Thai tea was not too sweet, unlike other restaurants, and I loved it. Overall, it was good enough that I would reorder again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We went there and was served raw chicken. We asked the server to have the chef fix it which made her quite upset . I guess we were just suppose to eat what’s served- raw and everything and not complain. Horrific experience and server. See pic of raw chicken I took out in my plate
I ordered Thai basil fried rice # 36 from thier menu and it had no taste, no spices, they asked how hot and I told them Mexican hot but they disregarded my request!
I also ordered # 63 chicken with garlic & broccoli with soy sauce, really bland taste and not good at all!! Just waisted my $24 today for really bad tasting food from hyped Thai basil in Chantilly …😔😔😔
EXCELLENT Thai restaurant!
I had an assortment of standard Thai fare - dumplings, chicken satay, and Tom Yum Goong (shrimp lemongrass soup), and each was phenomenal! They gave me 8 large dumplings that were moist and stuffed with chicken and seasonings. The satay is 4 large flattened chicken breasts with sweet peanut sauce and a cucumber/onion sauce as a pallet cleanser between bites. See pic below for the size of the 3 gargantuan shrimp that were in my 🔥 spicy soup! Loaded with mushrooms as well. So good. Will definitely be going back soon.
The restaurant was quiet and clean, with a nice little bar in the corner if drinks are your thing.
Our server was fast and attentive with a constant smile on her face, and all of our orders were perfect. No mistakes at all.
Finally, you get what you pay for. My two apps, soda, and soup were $27. But it was well worth it in my opinion.
Tell them "Kap hun kaa/khrap" when you leave! It means thank you (kaa if you are feminine, khrap for masculine).
I went there after reading the reviews, but all the tables were empty even though it was dinner time, the plates for the food were pretty and nice, I thought it would be okay to just fry the crispy spring rolls, but as the main menu came out, the disappointment grew. The sauce is stuck, so the seasoning doesn't even go inside, and one side is salty or sweet... I don't think I'll look for it again next time.
Ate lunch with manager on Tuesday afternoon. We were seated promptly and greeted by a friendly server just a couple of minutes after sitting. I ordered a soup followed by a beef stir fry both medium heat finishing with their rendition of fried banana, a favorite Thai dessert for me. The soup had a nice spice level and satisfying broth with good body from the protein and vegetables. The stir fry was okay. I would have appreciated more color on the beef from additional few minutes stir frying and more flavor and a touch of brightness in the broth. Thai food excels in many ways, one of which is the combination of acid and spice which I would have liked to see even in a measured way in the stir fry. The dessert as with the soup had a good thermal heat when served and an attractive appearance. The chocolate drizzle provided a nice accent to the crispy banana wrappers that flaked well when cut with my fork. The banana inside was both thermally hot and soft. Could they offer this same dessert with maybe honey drizzle as another option? Prices seemed reasonable and quite competitive for the area, so I thought I experienced a good value for my lunch. I could return again if I was in the area.(My manager enjoyed her dishes as well.)
This is my new go-to Thai spot. Their pad thai is delicious! Highly recommend.
Their fried rice is the best we have tasted! The portion is generous, and the service is always good.
Probably one of the best Thai Restaurants in the DMV
Noodles are mushy. Too much seasoning! I ordered the chicken and shrimp pad Thai. Drinks are on point tho!
It's my favorite Thai restaurant. In fact, one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I used to live in VA (but now live in TN,) and when traveling to VA, I always go here.
I will say this about the owner/chef. She beat Bobby Flay. Enough said.
We went there and was served raw chicken. We asked the server to have the chef fix it which made her quite upset . I guess we were just suppose to eat what’s served- raw and everything and not complain. Horrific experience and server. See pic of raw chicken I took out in my plate
Delicious meal with friendly service at a reasonable price.
Excellent
Delicious, great service. Friendly staff.
We even bought their cookbook

It's my favorite place for Thai. I especially like bun ga, which is a salad with cold rice noodles, warm chicken, and a delicious lemongrass dressing. Also, they have just redecorated the dining room very nicely.
I ordered the Pad Thai, and it was incredible! The service was very fast, and everyone was very welcoming. It was a wonderful environment.
Viajé a Tailandia recientemente y me encantó la comida. Este restaurante tiene comida tan buena como la en Tailandia. Cuando esté en el área de nuevo voy a regresar aquí
We go here regularly and love it! They are able to make some meals completely gluten free for my husband’s Celiac’s Disease.
Excellent. Excellent. Fresh and perfectly sliced. A great experience.
Huge menu, great food. Try the fish cakes.
Food is authentic and the portions are very large. Great environment and the staff is very nice. I recommend the soup!

I have eaten a lot of thai food in my life and this place makes some of the best i have ever had my favorite is the beef drunken noodle. I forgot to mention that when you receive your food you completely forget that we are in a recession because their portions are very generous you will not find another restaurant where the food quality and the for portions are equally high.

My parents and I ordered three noodle dishes are Pad Thai, Drunken noodles, and Pad See Ew for our lunch. And they are so good.
I would never return here or recommend it to anyone. First impression: The place isn't clean enough for a food establishment. After going to the restroom, I was even more alarmed. There were two restrooms, both were dirty and one smelled unbearable. Even the wall and ledge next to the table where we sat was dirty. I cannot imagine what the kitchen looks like. The decor is dated too, which I don't necessarily care about, but it made me feel like they haven't done a deep cleaning since they first staged the place. I ordered a tofu dish. The tofu was bland, not seasoned in any way whatsoever. Literally an afterthought. I requested my entree mildly spicy, and it was more like medium. The lack of cleanliness soured me on this place from the start. There was no hope. Restaurants must be impeccably clean.
I loved their veggie tofu drunken noodles. must try!
Worst drunken noodles. Ordered drunken noodles with chicken. Bulky and noodles sticking together . Just the sauce taste only. Normally drunken noodles is little orangish but this was dark brown. I wont order anymore from this place
Great pad see ew.
By far my favorite Pad Thai anywhere. Authentic and family owned/operated.
Had a mixed experience with the food quality. Had the shrimp and crab with fried rice from the Chef's Special menu, which was good. Also had Panang Curry, which was excellent with soft steamed tofu. That said, I was extremely disappointed with the Bamee Khi Mao Talay, which tasted overly smoky and oily. The Drunken Noodles were also unusually light and not spicy at all, tasting more like Pad See Ew.
There are simply better options locally for Thai food.
Food dint feel like regular Thai
#36 fried rice was amazing, excellent customer service.
Really good Thai food, I had a mushroom and coconut milk soup that was awesome . Everybody in our party loved their dish. If you like, or just want to try Thai, make it out to Thai Basil in Chantilly!!
I come here regularly to grab takeout. The food is always great. It's not really close to my house but when I'm anywhere nearby this is where I go.
It says it closes at 10 I went there around 9:20 pm, and they didn’t take our orders, I hope the owner finds this, as a restaurant owner myself if my employees does this, that person will be out the next day
Been coming here 10+ years and never a bad experience. A favorite lunch spot to bring new and old friends! Basil Chicken and spring rolls are my go-to!
There’s one word to describe our experience here — “SAD”. I initially was excited due to the high overall ratings, but after ordering a variety of food, was disappointed by the extreme lack of flavor. Even the fried rice tasted bland, and far inferior to what is commonly cooked at other restaurants. Try adding fresh garlic & chopped green onions for a start! And the Tom Kha soup was just plain flavorless. It’s almost as if the chefs made a deliberate decision to not put in the flavor because they’re afraid we Americans won’t be able to handle it. My tip to the chefs: Don’t skimp on the lime, the garlic, the chili & other spices which are characteristically Thai. Otherwise, your food will continue to disappoint & customers will find better places to grab a bite. I hope you take my advice.
Really tasty, good spice. Nice spot
I haven't eaten here in a long time and decided to grab some pad see ew (beef) and it was not good. It barely had any tasted and the beef was like really chewy. This place used to be REALLY good, so I'm not sure what happened. I thought maybe it was just an off day, but after reading a few other reviews, now I'm thinking maybe they changed ownerships or chefs. It was good enough to eat it all, but it just wasn't satisfying...but I mean, I had to add some texas pete hot sauce that I had laying around at my office desk to finish it. Disappointed.
Excelente servicio para los amantes de la comida tailandés.lugar muy amplio y concurrido casi siempre hay clientes disfrutando de su amplio menú.
The food was amazing and so was the service. I got the pad Thai with crispy duck. 10/10. Also the chicken wings with crab inside? Who would’ve thought it’d be so great.
Great food! They dial the spice up or down perfectly!
We’ve been eating Thai Basil food for 20+ years, sometimes even weekly. Unfortunately, it’s gone way downhill lately. Spice levels are very inconsistent. For example a 1 pepper order tonight was inedible even by someone who normally orders 3 peppers. Last time 2 pepper was bland. Beyond the inconsistency they frequently mess up online orders. It seems they manually transfer orders from one system to another. One dish seems to be incorrect 8 out of the last 10 times. We have so much history here we’ve tried to keep ordering but it’s so frequently a disappointment that we’re sadly giving up.
Came here for lunch and ordered the drunken noodles. It didn’t taste like drunken noodles and I’ve had these in many places. Ordered a side of white rice and what I got was tiny. I would say overpriced for the flavor and did not taste like normal. The chicken also looks pretty low quality but that’s my take. I got a thai tea too and it was pretty bad. They definitely water down the Jasmine tea and it doesn’t taste the same. I’d go elsewhere, not worth it.
Thai Basil has been my go-to restaurant for a while now. However, I ordered my favorite basil chicken today thru Grubhub - it was sheer disappointment. No salt, no taste - extremely hot. What happened to you guys? I would hate to stop being your customer!
Worst drunken noodles I’ve ever had. Beef was dry and chewy. Ordered medium spicy and was not spicy at all.
Pad thai and crispy duck. Cozy and clean
Authentic Thai food.
Do not get Thai food from this place! We were misled like many people from the 4.2 star rating, but clearly it was fake. This place deserves a 1 star at best. We got the Pad Thai, Pad see Ew, and the Red curry and we were throughly disturbed. This food was clearly taken from the fridge from days earlier and put in the microwave, but even if it wasn't it would still be the worst Thai food I ever put in my mouth. They had no seasoning, the noodles were bland and hard, the meat was dry and overcooked, we couldn't even finish the food. It was $50 dollars and it should have been $2. It was waste of money, gas, and time. Going to this place was a clear mistake I hope you don't make.
Very delicious food and service
I don’t normally leave bad reviews but have tried to give this place a chance many times since the location is close, have tried different dishes but unfortunately each time the food is either extremely greasy or no flavor (this time both).I first ate at this location almost a decade ago and recall the food was decent but something has changed in their cooking style.
It’s disappointing to spend over $50 in food only to trash it.
We placed an order here through Uber Eats. The app requires you to select a spicy level. In the notes section, we added ‘do not make spicy’. The order was delivered and was super spicy (visible chili flakes), my kids couldn’t even eat it. I called the restaurant, and the receptionist refused to fix the issue. She was very rude and said she’d call back but never did. They definitely lost a customer today.
Horrible food! Nothing authentic and complete waste of money. Red curry was terrible and veg tofu fried rice they put egg. Even after that the taste wasn’t good
The service was great and food very good
Loved the food, portions are big, great atmosphere, feels authentic.
Food smelled and tastes horrible. Fake rice and plastic in the container.
Worst Thai food ever! I ordered 6 dishes and not even a single one nice. Really poor quality meat used - the beef was chewy and stinky to the extent that I had to throw it away and the chicken was super dry. I have never seen a place that does green curry so wrong. Horrible tasting food and im pretty sure they are not 4.2. They probably have fake reviews to get that rating.
Staff was sweet so I didn’t complain but the food is terrible. I wasted my money and appetite
Best Thai I have had in a while. The food tasted fresh and hot as well as well priced, the staff was very friendly. Will definitely return for lunch
I've been enjoying the food at Thai Basil for over 30 years and it's always delicious!
We have been coming to this place from last 5-6 years but today I had a horrible experience and worst service unwilling to resolve the issue.
I ordered 2 dishes to pick up (a) Vegetarian Pad Thai and (b) Chicken Drunken noodles to pick up during the lunch time.
Pad thai was over cooked, dry and flavorless.
Drunken noodles had BEEF instead of chicken.
I called the restaurant, I was told to contact uber eats because I ordered PICK up through uber eats.
Uber eats said since I picked up the order so restaurant is responsible for it.
Thai basil customer service was awful.
Not coming back to thai basil.
Restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a great atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and the food was delicious.
Not sure what happened to this restaurant. We ordered pad Thai and Pad see ew. We asked for them to be mild in spice. Both ended up being very spicy. That happens sometimes, but when we told the waitress about it, the only suggestion we had was to order it with no spice next time. We ended up only eating part of one entree and left the rest. We've been to this restaurant many times over the years, and this is the first time we've had an experience like this. Maybe it's new owners. Used to love this restaurant, but now we will not be going back.
Really good food. Highly recommended
My favorite Thai restaurant on the planet!!!!
These guys are awesome! Been going here for years and it's the best Thai food around. A little harder to fid because its tucked away, but so much better than the other ones in Chantilly.
Great and simple Thai food in the heart of Chantilly. The menu is very small compared to other restaurants but that's completely ok as they make a lot more sense this way and you get consistently the same great quality items.
Drove 25miles to try this restaurant. Ordered the food with 4-level spice for noodles and curry, and two appetizers. They put in the main course and completely forgot about appetizers, so we had to remind them. Noodles came in pretty bland. We thought it was just the taste. Didn't think too much of it. When the bill came out, it stated that noodles were 2-level spice. We then decided to not to tip, as we had to remind them about appetizers as well. We just left after paying.
The waitress came out and shamelessly argued with us that tip is mandatory around here. You must pay the tip. Etc..We just left after some arguing, after she left saying showing some attitude, ain't no way I'm tipping them ever again after this experience.
Papaya Salad.
Went with friends to celebrate birthday. Food was amazing.
Chill place great food and service. Their level 2 spice was enough to make my nose run and it was amazing 🥵. The Pad Khii Mow was absolutely delicious.
Food is always right on point and prices are very reasonable. Most of all -- the staff could not be more pleasant!
Excellent food. Whenever we are in the area we hit Thai Basil. Try it. You will not be disappointed.
Food is good but service is very bad and staff here is quite rude!!
2 stars for speed only
We ordered pickup online. During checkout they ask for an automatic 18% tip…. Crazy… so I had to adjust that before placing my order. I spent $30 and got two dinner menu items. Panang chicken and chicken pad Thai. The Panang was so bland. It has green onions and carrots in a gritty bland curry. Worst panang I’ve ever had. The chicken pad Thai needed salt and flavor. We had a really long day driving a uhaul from Maryland to va. So tired and hungry. We haven’t had good food in so long because we lived in the sticks. We had such an easy pallet to please and somehow they messed that up. I wouldn’t have written a review but the fact that we needed good food in the moment and they let us down so hard and in such an expensive way, 2 stars for spee only.
Went here for lunch. Quaint restaurant, comfortable decor. The service was very polite and nice. She got our drinks and appetizers first. The menu is interesting with a couple of random Vietnamese dishes on the menu.
The spicy level was kinda random also. American spicy, Mexican spicy to Thai level.
My dad got the green curry with chicken with American spice level. I'd say it is good and I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken, Mexican spice level. The noodles were good. Not mushy and thought the heat level was just right.
Overall, Thai Basil offers good service and decent Thai food for
We ordered delivery and enjoyed the food. We had asked for no peanuts on one of the meals but it came with nuts. We called and Thai Basil quickly assured us they would send out a new one and a little while later a fresh dish with no nuts was delivered free of charge. Thanks!
We’ve loved the food here maybe a year or so ago. But currently it’s not up to its usual high standards.
One of my favorite spots for Pad Thai!!!
Still the best Pad Thai I've had and I've been trying very hard to find somewhere better.
Great food! Delivered faster than expected. Will order again and recommend to others.
Food and service was great (arrived while busy). Recommend!
Very patient wait staff and will help you decide what to order. Whole fried fish market price.
Great food, great service !!! what more can you ask for ?!
Really enjoyed our meals.
We have been there for lunch last week.
We ordered one veg fried rice. It was salty.
We will try again
one of menu item missing specific noodle. had to replace with pad thai noodle, wasn't bad. but thinner noodles tends to get stuck together much easier.
Great food and service
It was an impromptu dinner plan to this great place. Loved everything about it. The service was great and the foods very delicious. Will definitely go again. Highly recommend anyone reading this review to try it out! Cheers!
Our first time ordering from here, nice website. Food was ready in 20 minutes and it was easily the best thai that we have had in this area.
Everyone at the pickup area was super friendly.
We will be back.
We always enjoy the food here. They make the best Thai Fried rice and Pad Thai in the area.
Great food and service was fast.
This place has fallen way below standards, they think they can still live off the bobby flay success 10 years ago. Food had no flavor, quality and freshness were not there.
the food is always outstanding
One of the best Thai restaurants in the region.
their crying tiger is the best around the area! and their chicken lollipops are delicious!
Excellent food, excellent service. The fried tofu is exceptional with a nice, spicy but light dipping sauce. The pad thai is excellent. Even the vegetable soup with glass noodles was remarkably good. Our first trip was dine in, second was pickup. Both times the food was top quality and the service was some of the best in Northern VA.
Awesome flavor and huge portion sizes. Lunch items can be split by 2 adults.
Loved the quickness as the dishes were served pretty fast.
Food was great. There was a mixup, though. We ordered two orders of crazy noodle, one chicken with two peppers and one beef with three, but both were chicken with two peppers. But both were delicious, and we'll be back.
We have eaten many times here over the years and it never fails to be full of yummy good food. The Pad Thai is extremely delicious and very filling. The serving size is more than you would get at other restaurants and pay less. Service is great both dine in and delivery,
The food here most definitely lives up to the hype. The perfect balance between Authentic Thai flavors and Spiciness made me want more. Will definitely be returning.
The drunken noodles are the best!
Enjoyed all the dishes I chosen especially the Pad Thai with Thai pepper 🌶 🌶 🌶 rating!
Food is average nothing to out of the way for. Today I was eating lunch and a roach ran across the table, waitress apologize but I will never go back.
Quick service and always tasty. I've only ever ordered takeout/delivery and the food has always shown up fresh. Will definitely recommend over some of the other Thai options around.
Excellent service!! Everyone was super friendly and attentive. And the food was spot on. I ordered a "lite side" dish expecting it not to be as good as the full on dishes. I was wrong!! Super flavorful and just delicious!! I also noticed that their Door Dash / pickup service was well organized and easy for those picking up orders.
Pad See Ew was so so (lacked flavor). Edible, but have had many others that are way better. Also, it didn’t have much broccoli.
Excellent spicy Thai food with authentic flavor profiles. The waiting staff are fast and attentive, and the chefs craft some delicious, bold dishes. Their pad Thai and pad see ew are both on par with the best I've gotten anywhere else (including Thailand).
Oh - also the price to serving size ratio is an excellent value!
The food is good but at this moment the quantity was less than formerly period...
Great food selection. The food is excellent. Our whole family enjoyed the meal.
We continue to enjoy this place every time we try it. Additionally, we like to try different and/or new things from the menu each time we go.
There is a wide variety of dishes anyone e can order from.
excellent quality and service!
The food is great. The delivery is very quick. Highly recommend.
Uno de los mejores restaurantes que he visitado, la atención es excelente y la comida es exquisita.
I fel this place has declined in the quality of the food. Chicken Pad Thai lacked flavor and was inconsistent the last 2 times I have ordered it.
No matter which dish we order, it's always delicious which is not a surprise because she beat Bobby Flay in a pad Thai throw down!
We love Thai Basil! We've tried many items here and never received anything we really didn't enjoy. My favorites are the Pad Thai and their curry dishes.
Our food was delicious, and the service was fantastic. Very kind, comfortable, and welcoming restaurant.

Thai Basil is delicious. I order from them every Saturday. They recognize my phone number when I call. And my food is already ready when I arrive.
The quality and taste of this food is exceptional. I’ve been coming here for years. Outstanding!
