Opened in 2009, this Thai and Chinese Bistro has received numerous awards for its outstanding food, some of which are best Chinese in SLC and Best of Utah. The sleek contemporary interior provides a great ambiance and only adds to the experience. For those on the go they have take away and delivery service. A must try when you are in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I hadn't been in 20 years, but the food is still as good. I ordered candied walnut shrimp and it was so good! We also ordered several appetizers and entrees for our whole party. We went at 4 pm on a Saturday. There were very few people, which we liked, but was also indicative that it wasn't as popular as it use to be. There are robot dumb waiters and real waiters who are attentive and helpful. The interior is looking worn. The carpet is very old and worn and several of the bench seats are cracked. But the food, bith presentation and taste, were fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend if you like sweet and sour, Mongolian beef, sticky mango rice, and sesame chicken. So much good food.
J Wong’s was pretty decent. The outside of the restaurant is under construction, so no other customers were there, the atmosphere of the place was okay, dimly lit, quiet classical music playing. As for the food, the cream cheese wontons were pretty solid. I’ve definitely had better cream cheese wontons, but I’ve also had worse. They are better than Panda Express’s if you know how those taste. The sesame chicken was SUPER sweet chicken, definitely a citrus sweet, maybe strawberry lowkey. Definitely not savory, the General Tao chicken was our favorite! It was so crispy in a good way, and the flavor was sweet but not too sweet, paired with rice or Lo mein noodles, it was great. Everything is super saucy. Since we were the only ones in there, the waiter was super attentive, great service.
Nice ambiance, quiet and intimate, great menu selection at very reasonable prices. We were spending the night in Salt Lake to catch an early flight back home after several days of skiing in Park City.
We did a bit of sightseeing in downtown Salt Lake and
did a quick search for a nice restaurant in the area. This is how we found J. Wings, and we couldn't be more glad.
I highly recommend it.
Decided to stop here for a date-night dinner, service was great, they have robots that deliver the food to the table however a server is there at all times as well, so it’s just an added quirk that doesn’t take away from the human interaction of dining out. The server was attentive while also giving us the right amount of space to allow my date and I to have a conversation. Overall the place was clean and comfortable. The food was delicious and I’ll definitely be back to try some additional items they offer on the menu.
Food was flavorful and filling. Cost is midrange when compared with others. I like this place because I actually am full and do not leave feeling sick after eating.
I found the service to be better than what others have mentioned. They got me what I asked for, and offered suggestions. They smiled and were courteous. They refilled my water without me asking.
I'm not really looking for the server to be my new bff so I don't understand the comments of others regarding their experiences.
The food was amazing and our server Jordan was exceptional!! She suggested our entire meal and made the food and atmosphere even more enjoyable. Hands down the best service I've ever had anywhere! Way to gp Jwongs amd Jordan. We will definitely be returning and telling all our fam and friends!
It was our first time here at J Wong’s. We were going to go to a different restaurant but they were packed since it was All Star weekend and so we decided to try J Wong’s. Their service was really good. They had robots delivering the food and taking the old dishes back. Super cool. Their food was yummy. It was a really big portion. We 1/4 of it and took the 3/4 home for the following day. The atmosphere was super chill and relaxing. We got tangerine chicken, tom yum and generals Tao’s chicken.
We got the honey glazed walnut shrimp and it was delicious! Jordan was our server and she was awesome along with the other workers there! Definitely worth going too!
Five star service, five star prices, five star food.

Great food with reasonable prices
Great food and great service, our server Jordan was amazing!
Thank you so much to Jordan our server for the night. She was amazing, knew the menu, shared great food suggestions. Also her energy was on point. I will recommend to my 🧡

My server Jordan was amazing 😍. She took care of us in a timely manner and provided us with excellent service as well as great suggestions off the menu

Jordan is the best and food was delicious.
The fried rice I cannot get enough of. All the dishes we tried was a dining experience. The server Jordan, she was so friendly and fast. Thank you!
The best walnut shrimp in town! Great service and nice ambiance!
Jordan is a Great Server, absolutely amazing!! She takes care of us a lot.
Thanks Jordan, great service!
Best Chinese in SLC.
Hands down my favorite Thai and/Chinese place in SLC! Jordan is the best of the best and the egg drop soup is on point! Also, ask about the mango sticky rice!
Found steel wool piece in wonton soup. Probably cleaned the wok/pot then cooked it with the food. Shame was our goto for takeout.
The SERVICE was TRASH! The lady worker there was terrible!! As we walked in, we went straight to the kiosk to order take out, she (the worker) told us she can take our order for us. We spent a lot of money there for her to get our order wrong! Went back (within 5mins) for them to correct it and she told us we had to purchase again! Mind you we didn’t eat anything from the bag & just wanted the correct food we ordered.
The pad Thai was one of the single most disgusting things I’ve ever eaten. Typically their pad Thai is great, but tonight it is truly revolting. The orange chicken is more batter than chicken and then the chicken used is the grizzled cast-offs. I’ll never order from j wongs again…so disappointed: the pad Thai did not need to be changed…huge mistake. .
Food tastes good but quantities are pretty small when you eat in or do take out. Quantities definitely are worse when you do take out ( they really really skimp you). Make sure to check portion before you leave the restaurant…
Would say it’s poor value for money, entrees are $17 for small portions
There are better Chinese spots to check out in SLC
Just ok food which arrived warm, not hot. To their credit, they comped us free deserts. Delivery robot is a gimmick since the server still tranfers it on to your table.
Delish!
Mediocre at best. They made me a drink that was basically only mixer. I’m assuming a language barrier, but overall don’t bother to come here for cocktails. I asked for medium spice, had no spice and it wasn’t temperature hot either. I’ve never in my life ever had cold stir fry absolute insanity. How do you wok something up and it’s not hot? I’m assuming they pay more attention to their deliveries? They separated the Lo mein into its own plate too. Super weird.
Service was good, but the food was just average. I had a red curry that was not very flavorful and the chicken was a bit overcooked. They have these automated waiter machines floating about which were quaint but makes me wonder if they're having trouble getting staff.
I'm trying to be fair. Granted I ordered in Uber eats so my meal cost around 30 dollars which kinda adds to my disdain and I understand that not entirely fair. It would only be 20ish in the restaurant. I ordered the general tso chicken with low mein noodles. The portion of noodles was very in small. Less than half the portion of chicken. I was done with the noodles before I was even half way done with the chicken. Very little sauce on chicken. Very very little. Noodles tasted good. Chicken was good quality. Just kinda a sad day in regard to portion and sauce.
Delightful environment, the staff was incredibly friendly, the food phenomenal. YOUR FOOD GETS DELIVERED BY A ROBOT.
Will be coming back ♡

Best Chinese I've ever had, and at takeaway prices, less than $100 for 5 people.
We love having our convention party here. Always delicious and they go above and beyond.
Incredibly long wait for delivery
Service was a bit slow, probably due to short staff
Food was pretty good, comes out fast and robots make it fun experience. Kids would enjoy it

Kind of mid but not bad for how close it is
Not bad at all! Tried out because I found a $10 off coupon. Was definitely happy with the sesame chicken lunch special and the egg roll was delicious. Will be back again for lunch!
lunch is fast and really good

The green curry with shrimp is so good!!
Spicy creamy perfection :)
Decent pho. The kiosk ordering felt very impersonal. The folks who brought out the food were friendly. Egg rolls were amazing!
Food was good and featured a rolling robot cat that brought food to table. Greeter / waiter never smiled and only spoke single gruff words when necessary. No thanks for eating there. Not even a look as we left. Never will eat there again. We were only people there at dinner. I understand why.
I really enjoy this restaurant, my kids like going here as well.
Took an hour to get my order pick up time was 6:30, picked it up at 7:21. The whole front was packed. And they were in the back goofing around. The food was horrible, cooked 40% thru.
Went for a business dinner, the large group was well taken care of.
Got a beer Lo mein Noodles (chicken) an egg roll and a beer.
By far the star of the show was the egg roll. Wow it was amazing! Crispy and packed with stuffing.
The Lo mein was a very small portion and flavorless (other then the spice)
The server was very friendly and nice. Great staff.
Biggest memory here will be the awesome little robot that follows the servers around!
Based on the egg roll I would definitely come back to try other dishes just not the Lo Mein. Of course to see the robots again!
If a very white dude from Missouri opened a Chinese food place, this would be it. Not dissing, but know what you are going to get, which is just normal Chinese
The Chicken Pad Thai was devoid of chicken. The noodles were over cooked and the garlic was overpowering. I was extremely dissapointed. The sesame chicken was great. One of the entrees wasnt what we ordered but it was good.
Absolutely delicious. The portion size is a little bit small though.
My daughter and I ate at J Wongs on our final day in Salt Lake City. This place is very good! This was our first experience with a robot food delivery server!! Very cool technology and it made for a memorable experience! The food was very good and the portions were very generous. I had the Drunken Noodles and my daughter had the sesame chicken. Both were excellent and service was spot on! Skip the egg rolls, they were dry and not great. Regardless, We will be back!!
Food is ok, nothing special. Service was slow and unattentive. I would not recommend this restaurant when there are many others with excellent food.
J. Shi
You get four potstickers for seven dollars. That is robbery. Also, nobody order the Chinese egg roll. It’s disgusting.
Randomly picked this place because it was the closest to my hotel but wow, this is seriously the best food I’ve had in a while. The drunken noodles and the spicy Thai fried rice are saucy and seriously delicious. The mango sticky rice is not too sweet and melts in your mouth. Love this place restaurant!
Average spot with mediocre service.
Definitely go for the mango with sticky rice. It is to die for
This food was so good the service as well. We were visiting for a work conference. We stopped in for dinner. The hostess and waitress were super friendly.
There’s also a robot that follows staff around while take food to the table adorable!!
The food was so flavorful it was everything I wanted. 10/10
The portions are so small and the food is terrible. The spring rolls had mold on them. I ordered through door dash and my order was missing items. There's no way that I would ever order from here again. I'm really curious how they are still in business. skip this place
Jwong’s is one of the few Chinese restaurants that is gluten free friendly. If you have a real allergy then this is the place to go. Also, the GF options are delicious and it’s not like bland potatoes for people who are sensitive. It’s even better if you can handle the full octane of soy sauce etc. Highly recommended. Get the Kung Pao, wonton soup, honey walnut shrimp, lo mein, etc. Basically that’s my usual order. 😀
Some of the best pad thai and fried rice I have ever had. I am praying I get into dental school at Roseman so I can eat this again regularly.
It is a very nice place, the food is very good and they serve you with quality and warmth, highly recommended.
The food was delicious, and the service excellent, 100% recommended 🙌🏼
If I could put Seven Stars for the service, I would. Food was great. I guess I'm kind of stereotyping to expect very large portions at Asian places, but it definitely was enough food. Prices are very reasonable for nowadays. I got cheese wontons, small soup, beef pad thai, green tea. All came up to like $23 with tips and taxes
Great service and amazing food!
The service was excellent! Our server (Al i think) was very attentive and really friendly.
The food was stop good! I had the sweet&sour Tofu and it was the prefect balance of Crispy (which not everywhere gets right).
Everything my whole family got was receiving great reviews from them as well!
The robots were cool but a little awkward to try and maneuver around when i was trying to get to and from the restroom. They kind of bottle necked everyone.
Service was great, our waiter AL was very friendly and had good recommendations. The kids loved the robots!
I ordered food through DoorDash and couldn’t believe how disgusting everything was. On top of taking over an hour to prepare the order (leaving the dasher waiting) the food was so disgusting and COLD. They didn’t even cut the meat in the lo mein dish, they literally threw whole sheets of uncut beef into the dish. The meat had pieces of bones in it and was inedible. They overcooked the lo mein so bad that it was mushy like mashed potatoes. First time that’s ever happened to me. I guess the soup was prepared first and then left waiting an hour for the rest of the order because it was ice cold. I’m staying at a hotel so I had no way of heating it up. I basically threw out half my order over this nonsense. Overall terrible experience. To the business owner, how could you allow such disgusting food be served to your customers? You should be embarrassed.
Unbelievable delicious 😋
Excellent food and service! Potstickers were delicious.
Tried a lot of Pad Thai from different restaurants in smaller towns and this is probably the worst. There's no taste to it. 3 of us ordered the same and they all have no flavor to it. No wonder they offer soy sauce once you get your order. I thought mixing the food makes it better but no. Go somewhere else if you want some pad thai. Sake's good though.
In SLC for a conference and this restaurant is located right across the street from the convention center. I ordered the bacon and shrimp spring rolls and the chef's special Panang Salmon. The spring rolls were very fresh and packed a lot of flavor in a small serving. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Crispy but tender, the sauce was delicious with just enough spice to keep my mouth warm but not to the point that it detracted from the overall dish. I paired dinner with a glass of French Sauvignon Blanc and enjoyed it immensely. Would definitely recommend and they even have a robot that helps carry the plates to the tables!
Great food. Great atmosphere. Best Asian food in SLC. Highly recommend.
I came in last night to pickup a delivery order that wasn't ready. The guy up front said take a seat and i said i needed to move my car. My car was parked in the road so I went back out to move it and was gone less than a minute. When I came back in I was met by him again and he immediately verbally attacked me. I tried to explain I had to move my car cuz I wasn't about to be towed or ticketed. He cut me off and wouldn't let me talk. He just kept repeating "I said sit and you need to sit!" Then he walked away ignoring me. I'd never heard of this restaurant and it smelled delicious. I even texted my spouse to say we should try it out. But after this experience I won't be back to try it. I've never been treated so badly at any restaurant. Maybe he was having a bad day but that's not an excuse to get angry with someone.
Barely any food for 80 dollars. Enough to feed 2 people when it was meant for 5. We skinny as hell
The pad Thai was great.
Al y Nick ofrecen un excelente servicio y hacen muy buenas recomendaciones, son muy amigables .
La comida realmente es buena .
Don't bother. We had Kung Pao Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, and Ham Fried Rice delivered. The portions were about half the size you would expect to get in a restaurant and the ingredients were non-existent. For instance, the Kung Pao had exactly 3 small pieces of chicken mixed in with some carrots and celery in a tasteless and colorless sauce that was basically a corn starch gravy. There weren't any of the bell peppers, ginger, garlic, scallions, or peanuts that would make it "Kung Pao".
The food was extremely expensive. One Orange chicken and lomein was 21$, and an appetizer of 6 small wontons were 7$. It was an extremely small portion size. The centers of the wontons were cold but they were really good so that was a plus. The cool thing was that our order was enough out to us on a Ketty-Bot. The restaurant was clean and fancy but I wouldn’t go again unfortunately.
One of my absolute favorite restaurants ever!! The atmosphere here is beautiful. The service is top notch! Our server was SO polite and helpful. We also really enjoyed the cool service robots that carried dishes, they were very entertaining. The food was ridiculously delicious and we loved everything we tried! My favorites were the vegetable fresh rolls, drunken noodles, and pad Thai. The restaurant was amazing working with a gluten allergy - they had a whole menu of options and specially marked my order to make sure the kitchen was extra careful. I already cannot wait to come back again, this is one of the best restaurants in the city!!
The food and atmosphere were outstanding. Nyk our server, was very helpful and courteous.
The food was soooo good! The green curry was perfectly creamy and not too runny. The Mongolian beef was so flavorful. Def reccomend.
Love this place, food taste is so good and unique!! Egg rolls the best ever!! Definitely recommended!!
Had the honey walnut shrimp, it was done to perfection, the orange chicken was good too.
I ordered a house fried rice. It had no shrimp, very little pork plus chunks of onion. I will never go here again
Great food, great prices, great atmosphere. We will come every time we are in Salt Lake City.
Came here with a reservation and enjoyed the experience! It's a very cute and more formal restaurant with great food. It would have been helpful to have pictures on the menu (I knew what mostly everything was but only because I grew up eating Chinese food). I ordered the wonton noodle soup and vegetable potstickers, both were a hit! The robots are a great addition, loved the kitten faces. Server was a bit stony at first, but when asked for recommendations he opened up a bit more. Would recommend!
The waiter, Al, seemed grouchy and condescending. We wanted a bowl of soup with our lunch and other items but he told us HE CANT ORDER IT THAT WAY!!! He was super every other moment but ordering was very upsetting. We almost walked out.
I ordered Thai basil stir fry with chicken. It tastes really bland and the chicken is dry. It is so expensive too. Not authentic at all.
I like the service robots, before they had more beautiful plate designs, now it's just the common one, the food is still very tasty.
Ordered takeout and it was freshly made and ready on time. The host was incredibly friendly. The food was delicious and a great price compared to similar quality Thai food I've had elsewhere. Great vegetarian options, highly recommend the mango sticky rice if you're ordering dessert.
It's pretty expensive but it's really good
The Mongolian Beef was amazing, it was the best I’ve ever had! The little robot that brought and took dishes was a cute touch!
Great place to get dinner!
Love their fried rice!
The food was flavorful, fresh, perfectly prepared with delicious sauces and crisp vegetables. The atmosphere was clean, contemporary, and efficient with robots.
The soup was good but the Pad Thai was too sweet for me.
Service was nice though.
Some of the best Chinese I have had before. The veggie dumplings were sooooo good. Spring rolls delicious. And cream cheese wontons 10/10. The general tofu was honestly the best I’ve ever had. Thank you for have veggie options! Most places put crab in their wontons or pork in their dumplings. I was thankful this place had veggie options. We had delivery and they forgot our rice but reimbursed us $4.
J. Wong's was incredible. The made-from-scratch cheese wontons, and chili paste on our Pad Thai was phenomenal. The pork in the sweet and sour was tender like butter. Chinese egg rolls were large like small burritos. The best part was our servers Al and Liesel. They were spot on with service and never missed a beat. Al's attention to detail is perfection. AND OMG. THE ROBOTS!! The cute blinking eyes as they look for your table to deliver your food. It was out of this world. Thank you Al and Liesel for a experience we won't soon forget!
Delicious food with a wide range of choice in a pleasant and refined atmosphere.
Great service!!
Great food, great staff, great experience. It is a bit pricey but not unreasonable for what you get.
Best Pad Thai I've ever had. The robots were awesome! Loved the service.
Really really ridiculously good food. The pad Thai was dynamite (chicken and shrimp mix), the black pepper chicken tasty, and the Panang curry outta this wild.
Top it off with a mango sticky rice and you’ve got the making of a happy tummy
The food was hot and fresh and tasty. Lots of vegetarian choices. Orange Tofu was delicious. Egg drop soup was good. Thai basil was good and the vegetarian dumplings were fresh and flavorful. In addition, there was a cool robot to deliver our food.
Always wonderful. Delicious food and excellent service.
al our server was so kind and told us the things to recommend on the menu. he also was very very attentive throughout the evening. made it very special as this is our first time being here. customer service 10. out of 10. if you want the best server and the restaurant ask for Al. The food was absolutely amazing. I got the Thai basil dish with shrimp mild heat and it was absolutely perfect. the potstickers is big enough to share for two but still Will leave you enough room to continue through your entree or what you've ordered for dinner. everything was served very quickly and efficiently. if you're looking for a great evening with a bit of fancy, I would recommend this restaurant. they weren't very crowded in the evening and it's still felt like you had a private dinner party to yourself due to the layout of this restaurant.. this has the experience of being really posh with reasonable price. and the robots are so cool. only thing I didn't get a picture of.
Great atmosphere, great food, fun location! We went during the Chinese new year, and were treated to drums, gongs, and dancing dragons. An awesome display. The food was really good as well, and the prices weren't over the top, especially for the entertainment. The robot waiters were a fun addition as well. Give it a go if you're craving Chinese food.
Quick service and good food
Great food and the music was relaxing!
I got the sesame chicken and was super impressed by both the service and the food.
My husband and I ate here for dinner with our 2 year old son. We had a really good experience, they were very accommodating and the food was delicious and came fast. The restaurant is very clean and classy! I had the egg drop soup, spring rolls and the stir fry chicken. My husband had the orange chicken and there was tons of chicken. I like drinking out of glass glasses which they have! We will be back! Thank you for making our family dinner experience so refreshing 👌
The best Thai restaurant in SLC. I love it!
Needs a ceiling over the bar so the dust can't fall in your drink. I love the robot's that bring you your food
Spent three nights in Salt Lake and I had dinner here twice!
That is just how good this place is.
Very accommodating personal, tasty food, must have Pad Thai.
Nice Asian restaurant. Good menu selection and reasonable prices. Super cool to see robots maneuvering around helping out the staff.
Staff was super friendly and the food was good, with generous portions! They even had a robot cat thing bring out your food which was super cool!
I have been going to J. Wong's since they opened. They have the best Asian food in town.
Nope!
Great Chinese food! The only thing even slightly disappointing was the curry, but everything else more than made up for it! Will be going again.
Nice environment. My first time here and disappointed about not getting our main dish which was the lamb $30. Waited almost an hour and not once did the waiter check on us or update on our food. They either didn't have lamb or took care of outside orders first before dine in customers. Will not be coming back.
Was served by a robot. That was clearly ol. Ordered a pad Thai. It was tasty but could be more spicy. The mild spice option is extremely mild.
Love the curry, very authentic, nice place for a date
Excellent service and food. Great price
