This place had great customer service! Hubby had the Veggie Green Curry Fried Rice. He loved it! I had the Veggie Pad Thai the texture was good it was a bit sweet. Ban Mai Thai Restuarant just may have become my new favorite Thai restaurant in central Texas. My plate was massive and so hot I had to wait for it to cool down even after I got home. I ordered a combination Pad Thai plate with shrimp, chicken, pork, and beef. I can't remember exactly what spice level I ordered, but I did have a slight sweat every time I ate. My plate was big enough to eat from three times, and it only got better and better each time. I had never had Pad Thai with crushed peanuts, only whole, and I didn't like it. However, the crushed peanuts added a completely different texture as well as flavor that I now love. I did have a wait time, but it was well worth it! I'll be back, because everything was fantastic. Even the Thai Tea was some of the best, if not the best, in town that I've had. This must try for fans of Thai food.

For starters we had the Chicken Egg Roll, I ordered the Yellow Curry with fried tofu, my sister ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, Seafood Drunken Noodles and Fried Rice. Talk about a mouth watering experience! The Thai Tea is divine! The staff were friendly and very accommodating too!

There has never been a bad experience at Ban Mai Thai restaurant. The meals are so delicious. They do have vegan options, too.

The restaurant is small, so you must get there when they open to get a table. Sometimes, I place my orders for pickup over the phone.

We had Ban Mai for the first time and it’s going to be our new Thai spot! We have tried lots of Thai in the area and were not impressed until we came here. Everything we ordered was super fresh and delicious. Their red curry is by far the best within a 100 mile radius. We had takeout, but everyone was extremely personable and sweet which is always a huge plus. I’m so happy we found this place!

I've been ordering here for quite some time and this place always over delivers on food and service. The guy is super nice and attentive and the food is delicious. Best pad thai in town, very flavorful.

The location is very small and clean. When we walked in (5 adults and baby) the waiter immediately greeted us with “if we are a large party we need reservations” (even though there was only one couple sitting in the restaurant). It was a little off putting but he did accommodate us. The service thereafter was great. We ordered the crab rangoons, combination fried rice, sea food stir fry and drunken noodles. The portions were large and the food was flavorful. The waiter was very knowledgeable of the dishes, made good recommendations, and was attentive. As we ate our dinner, many repeat customers stopped by who he knew by name and their order.

I've eaten here on several occasions and the food is great but the last three of four times I tried to call in an order their phones go straight to a busy signal so I go in to order the same as before and I'm told it will be an hour wait. They should stop blocking calls and answer the phone and just let people know. I guess they don't want my business anymore. 😐🤨🤔😑

Moved here from Michigan and away from my hubby's fave thai restaurant. Just happened to see this restaurant on my way home and decided to stop and surprise him with lunch. He loved it!! So it seems he now has a new fave thai restaurant.

I came here for lunch and I liked the location, menu, and prices. I paid $12+tax for a good size portion of curry with chicken and rice which was really delicious, my only complaint is that there could be a little more meat in the curry. Also if you like spicy food order the max level of spice (there’s 3 levels) because I ordered mild (level 2) and I thought it could be spicier. Overall I would visit again because of the great taste, location, and price which is more affordable than other Thai spots in the area.

Nice, small restaurant with gluten free options. They were knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. I appreciated the upfront effort the host put in. The food was very fresh and made to order. The only drawback was their limited seating and that is not their fault.

The wife and I ordered the basil fried rice and the padd thai. Both dishes were really good and they huge portions. The waiter was polite and professional. We’ll be back to try some curry next time.

Regularly in the area for business and have taken food to go 5 or 6 times. Each time the same person (owner?) offered a friendly greeting, was ready to explain any dish and the food was spot on with generous portions. It's my go-to for Thai food. You won't be disappointed giving them a try.

After working at an amazing Thai restaurant for a few years awhile back, I'm a little picky when it comes to eating Thai food. This place did not disappoint! Our waiter took his time in greeting us and asked if we had any questions about the menu. He was very attentive in making sure we had everything we needed and kept our waters full. First timer here. Wow was the Pad Thai great. The noodles were perfectly cooked and seasoned with lots of shrimp and Tofu however, it needed a little more bean sprouts, green onions, and scrambled eggs. The flavor was spot on, not too salty. Perfect portion as well. Great atmosphere, great people, family-oriented. Will return. Will get Thai Spicy next time, spicy was not enough for me.

This is the first time we've been able to go here. We tried a few times during COVID but it was always near closing time. The decor is nice and the waitstaff is very friendly. We had the green seafood curry and some kapow chicken(both medium spicy) we both eat Korean food all the time and the medium was pretty spicy! (so don't go higher than medium if you aren't used to hot Thai food!) the food came out quickly and was the perfect temperature. We found the dishes very flavorful and look forward to going back to try other dishes.

Update 3/2022: Note: They have new menus (which I have posted pictures of). Still the best Thai restaurant in the central Texas area. We usually get the spring rolls, fried rice or red curry and are never disappointed. The staff are very friendly and do their best to help you however they can. We enjoy coming here and will be back soon as we come back to Harker Heights!

Update 11/2023: New holiday hours(picture posted) and the food is still as great as the first time I had it! Make sure you tell them you want the eggs over easy so you have plenty of yolk for your rice.

Ban Mai is the most awesome Thai food place around Paul and his mom the cook prepare some really great dishes and everything on the menu is superb they are constantly short staffed and try their best to accommodate everyone so please be patient the wait is worth it

This was my third time here. It has been consistently good and deserves a review. When you enter, their is a small dining space that can accommodate about 18 people. The space is clean, casual, and quite comfortable. The staff is has been upbeat and very friendly during each visit.
The dish I had the pleasure of eating was the Shrimp Padd Khing Ginger. The dish is very ginger forward, as it should since it is in the name. The star of the dish is the shrimp. The shrimp was cleaned and cooked perfectly. They were soft, juicy, and succulent and complimented well with the vegetables and noodles (I subbed in noodles for the standard rice). The vegetables were cooked such they retained crispness. It was a good combination of textures.
I highly recommend Ban Mai!

I have ordered food from here a few times, but finally went into the restaurant to eat the other day. The owner was so nice and the food was amazing! This is the best Thai restaurant in this area, you cannot go wrong with any of their dishes, authentic Thai food that is so delicious and savory. Paul and his staff they are very attentive caring and makes you feel like home. I can’t decide which dish is my favorite but my top three is drunken noodles, red curry, pad Thai and the papaya salad. Just ate there for the first time, and it is instantly my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. The food was fantastic, and the service was even better. We got the Curry Crab Rangoon, and it's one of the best I've ever had. The Drunken Noodles and Red Curry were delicious also. The gentleman working did an outstanding job, along with the bus boy. This is a great little hole in the wall! The food was very good. The flavors vary on this type of cuisine, and that is ok! Because man, they didn't miss a mark. It's very small inside, so if you're looking for seating, it may be busy during rush hours. The papaya salad was a great take and a new flavor, which we enjoyed. The curries were fantastic, and we got big chunks of fish in the green curry!

They are not very spicy here. I found Thai spice to be more like Jalapeños spice than anything. I was expecting that Thai Dragon Chili burn, but no. It isn't a bad thing as the food was quite enjoyable. I'm just giving you a gauge so you know before you order.

The waiter was fantastic! He brought the food hot and fresh. He didn't reach over us and he was very attentive and respectful. He made sure we were well taken care of.

Always a treat to eat here. Great food with a wide variety of menu items, totaling almost 100. They also have a nice variety of Thai drinks, sweet tea and coke products. All servings seem like they were designed as bottomless pits - portions are large. If you leave here hungry then to bad for you. There is something on the menu for everyone. Curry, salads, rice, noodles and the list goes on. This family owned and Thai chef are definitely worth your time.

The restaurant may be small with only 6 tables but there is a constant stream of take out orders. Staff is very friendly and makes an effort to meet the patrons.

So glad we discovered this hidden gem. Open WEEK DAYS ONLY and closed over the weekend. Don’t give up, come back again because they are definitely worth the wait. From drunken noodles to phad Thai these two dishes are just the beginning.

Very good food, has that family-owned feel and everybody was very friendly and brought us our food quickly. I had the shrimp pad thai and my son had the green curry with chicken and the flavor on both are extremely good. Also the crab rangoon they had had a bit of a Thai flair to the stuffing and was amazing. Definitely going to go back there again and try more stuff on the menu!

Maybe the cook is not skilled. Pad Thai was NOT sweet enough, and there were almost zero bean sprouts or vegetables. Way too salty, and did they forget the fish sauce? No fish sauce on the side, either, as is standard. Just tastes like soy sauce noodles. Remind me why I paid $12.50 for this. The noodles are inconsistently cooked, some dried some not, meat scarce and dried/overcooked, now I'm starting to wonder if they're giving leftovers to people who ordered take-out? It definitely feels picked-over and recooked. Wow that's a sinister thought.

We ordered about 6 or 7 dishes to go for my son’s birthday dinner. The pad Thai was my absolute favorite! Between the chicken egg rolls and the vegetable egg rolls, by far the vegetable egg rolls were best. The papaya salad was refreshing and spicy. Love it. The chicken satay and pork satay, chicken had the better flavor. All in all I would absolutely come back here again. We also ordered the seafood red curry. It had a delicious flavor but I didn’t care for the fish that was in it. Next time I’ll just order the shrimp red curry instead. Be adventurous and try ban mai thai. It’ll definitely wake up your taste buds.

Excellent service! We ordered shrimp rolls, veggie egg rolls, shrimp fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and drunken noodles. The food was delicious! It was so much food that we had enough to take home for dinner.

Hands down best Thai food in the area. This place absolutely blows everybody else out of the water. Seafood curry is so good.

Could've handled their seating issues better. Walked in to find two empty tables but not enough chairs to seat 3 people. The person who announced to us that dining area was full gave off the impression that we were more of a nuisance than welcomed customers and made no attempt to gain our business that day. We simply turned around and went to Thai Thai where we had a very pleasant experience and a great meal.

This place is consistently good! The portions are big, it’s reasonably priced and always amazing. Definitely give this place a try!! Our favorites are Masaman Curry, drunken noodle, 3 meat fried rice and the Thai iced tea!

I've been wanting to try this place since it opened but finally got the opportunity. It's a quaint dining room area with only a few tables and one gentleman who did everything in the front. The food was delicious and priced well. I will definitely be going back.

The food here is consistently good. My family and I like to order the drunken noodles, pepper steak, and glass noodles. 🍜

This place did not disappoint! Reasonable wait times, great flavored food. Good customer service. If I could give 4.5 stars I would. I was only slightly disappointed that the Drunken Noodles were slightly over cooked. I highly recommend eating here nonetheless.

O My GOD!... first time tasting Thai and my last time buying Chinese! We got the #80 glass noodles w/ over easy egg and #13 fried rice. We didn't put any sauce on it and it was more flavorful than any Chinese dish here in this area... and we've been here for over 19yrs! Plus, the staff was friendly and very helpful in helping us decide what to order; and the portion was a very nice size. My wife, who drives from Heights to Ft. Hood road for Chinese, said she's only getting her rice from here from now on. I'm telling you, when you get that itch for fried rice or noodles don't waste your time or money on any other place. I couldn't put the fork down!

BEST THAI FOOD EVER! I have had the pad thai from here several times and it's always amazing. Today via the recommendation of our incredibly knowledgeable server I tried one of the curries. He knew everything about every item on the menu, and clearly had it memorized. Wonderful and efficient service. I also tried the thai coffee which was phenomenal! This was my first time dining in and it was wonderful. We also had the satay and it was delicious too! Never had a bad experience here, and I have recommended it to many friends. We went about 7 PM for a quiet dinner since we had no children for the night. We were properly seated and were one of two tables being served that were socially distanced.
Noticed a child at the first table under the TV set who must’ve been related to the owner or an employee. At first, we didn’t have any issues with what she was doing. But eventually realized that she was watching some sort of absurd Anime cartoon That was depicting the repetitive bloody murder of several characters. The child ,seven or eight years old, Kept repeating video segments over and over for 20 minutes or so as we sat there waiting to place and receive our order. At one point we decided to get our food to go since we did not want to have to hear and watch that over and over again. We mentioned it to the male waiter, Who apologized and said nothing to the child. He would mention something to the older woman. She hollered something at the child and the volume was lowered. Five minutes later the child raised the volume up again.
We finally received our food and left. It was OK considering it was cold by the time we got home. Would’ve really enjoyed eating it fresh at the restaurant.
I understand sometimes parents have to bring their kids to work, but there should be some oversight especially in a public dining room of a restaurant in which atmosphere is important.

Very friendly staff. Great food and good selection. Good portion size as well. Very limited seating.

Food is great but the restaurant is completely unreliable. If they get busy they just disconnect the phone. I have also had multiple delivery orders cancelled when they're supposed to be delivered. They need to expand their staff.

Friendly, huge portions, excellently cooked. Just getting started. Small dining area but a gem.

My husband got the seafood tom yum soup and I got the pineapple red curry with chicken. We both loved the food so much and even got to meet the wonderful cook (grandma) who is amazing at what she does. The prices are reasonable and portion sizes are plentiful. This is a sweet family owned restaurant and the whole experience was a pleasant and lovely one - the service was exceptional. We can't wait to come back again!
