I had chicken satay for my appetizer and my friend had spring rolls for her appetizer. Both were super delicious! Chicken was tender and juicy. Spring rolls had the perfect amount of crunch. My friend has sushi. She said it was really really really good. She devoured the entire roll in like 5 minutes. For entrees, we had chicken pad Thai and dry egg noodles. Both were delicious! That was some of the best pad Thai I’ve ever had and my friend loooved her dry egg noodles as well. They had cute Christmas decor up and had great music playing. The entire staff was very friendly. The food came out quickly and it was hot and fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I’ll definitely be back.

This place has friendly staff. I like their Thai tea compared to other restaurants. My husband and I ordered green curry, lo-mein, vegetable sushi, custard pumpkin and Thai tea of course. I love how fresh their ingredients are. The vegetables are not overcooked. Their house sauce adds a delicious flavor to the lo-mein. The green curry has a kick. We will definitely come back.

The food was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Rolls, I added cream cheese, I also ordered the coconut soup it was delicious, I ordered a second bowel, I added shrimp to my soup. The customer service was excellent, patient, knowledgeable and friendly, it was very festive inside, the atmosphere was welcoming, it felt like the holiday. As a sushi afficionado who has eaten quite a bit of it in Japan, I have a very high bar. And as a foodie who often brags about Nashville's incredible culinary scene, it was imperative that I did my research when a fellow sushi lover came to town. So I scoured the Internet to find Nashville's ultimate Japanese destination. After running the numbers on 30-something sushi joints, it was clear that Sumo Sushi had the highest ratings in the city, sporting an impressive 4.79 across all platforms with 429 reviews! The masses have collectively spoken, but would these lofty ratings hold up for a sushi snob who's eaten the real thing overseas?

YES!! YES!! YES!! Sumo is that good!! This is the freshest sushi I've eaten outside of Asia. And my five-star review just bumped them up to a rarely achieved 4.80 Internet rating and rightfully so! The glowing reviews are accurate, the quality of the food exceeds their competition, and the creativity of this Thai/Japanese fusion cuisine is incredible! The menu is clever, extensive, and very authentic without being pretentious, and the website is very slick. Replacing the lackluster Zushipoke in this cozy Melrose space anchoring the Eighth South condo, Owner/chef Ming Pichidtammarat is at home as a master chef. He personally took our order and highly recommended the white tuna. So I eagerly took him up on it.

Sampling some of their best nigiri, the smoked salmon and seared tuna were impeccable, probably my two favorites and easily among the best things I've ever tasted in Nashville. But the white tuna nigiri is so good that it's nearly equal to the other two, certainly one of the best things on the menu! The eel (unagi) nigiri was sensational, usually my favorite of all nigiri. But the other three items were so good they almost made me forget my beloved unagi altogether! Now that's saying something! The yellowtail was so buttery and smooth that even in fifth place, it was better than almost any other restaurant's best sushi!

I wasn't quite as fond of the octopus nigiri, nor the sweet shrimp nigiri, perhaps because the other choices were so elite! But that did nothing to stop me from raving about this meal for the next few hours and gladly bestowing five stars upon Sumo, something I'm stingy about doing. Even better, the price is completely reasonable. You could acquire 10 pieces of nigiri (smoked salmon, seared tuna, white tuna, eel, and yellowtail) for $34.75, large cuts of meat that will fill you up for a very worthy price without breaking the bank. Sumo Sushi has the highest ratings in town, and they are every bit deserved! Stop reading my review and go there right now!

Christmas decor is already out, it’s festive & cute & really adds to the vibe for the season. Bonus, whatever the playlist is thats on, it’s ALWAYS a great eclectic mix of music, often times featuring unique covers or mixes or acoustic sets. Definitely my favorite part of dining here and I highly recommend to all!

We went for a late happy hour lunch and everything was great. Our server was friendly and accommodating, the food came quickly, and it was delicious. We were particularly impressed with the gyoza and the soy sauce noodles - they had a fantastic bounce mouth feel, a rare and fantastic thing!

Came here shortly after moving in down 8th ave. Red curry and Drunken noodles had the exact flavor I was looking for! The kind lady who served us was very attentive and good with serving everyones tables (all by herself)! Found the new thai spot and can’t wait to return and try some other options on the menu!

The garlic edamame was probably the best I’ve ever had! Not spicy, tastefully garlicky, and there was another sauce on them that was really tasty. I had the Sakura Roll, which was also delicious.

Their menu is really high quality (the actual, physical menu..) enough to have a conversation about with the people I was dining with, and they have a very fun wall mural. Service was prompt and attentive.

I was thinking about this place for days after eating here. I just moved to KY from AZ and was really needing a taste of good sushi like back home. Took a weekend trip to Nashville and this spot did NOT disappoint. This place exceeded expectations. Not only did it satisfy the craving, but It made me excited to visit Nashville again! Service was wonderful and the atmosphere was laid back. Very enjoyable dinner.

Great people, reasonable prices and delicious sushi!

I usually don’t write reviews, but feel a PSA is required. I stopped in for lunch and ordered a sushi burrito. It cost $21 after tax, and was equivalent in size and value to a basic sushi roll ($7.99 on their menu). Maybe the other menu items are a better value, but I won’t be back to see. I used the high ratings to give this place a try, but feel they aren’t justified based on my experience.

I came here with my dad while he was in town, because he loves Thai food:) I'd never been here before, but I was very impressed with the menus and the service. The menus have all these beautiful pictures of the items (my dad really liked that; he's not THAT old, but he loves pictures). My dad, enticed by the picture, of course, got the Dry Egg Noodle. I have no idea how he was on a call the entire time and still managed to finish his food before me... Guess it must have been good! My Teriyaki with Tofu was amazing. Just what I wanted and expected in a teriyaki dish; the tofu was fried to perfection.

I wanted to make a special point regarding the service here. Our waitress was so polite, friendly, and all smiles. She made me happy to be there, what can I say? I had some leftovers (my father did not), and she even boxed/saran-wrapped them for me. I don't think I have ever been somewhere like this, that didn't cost a fortune, and had my food boxed for me and brought back to me. It was the cherry on top of everything, really.

I won't be forgetting Sumo anytime soon. I had a wonderful time with my dad, over some delicious food, and in a wonderful place. I hope to be back again soon:)

Food was alright, it came out fairly quickly but all the sushi rolls we got (crunchy crab, crunchy shrimp, and Spider roll) were lacking flavor and not warm. Edamame was cold and not salty. The best thing we got was the crab rangoons. Took a long time to get our check.

Its a nice looking restaurant but the ramen I got had undercooked noodles that were gummy with no flavor. There was only one server so customer service wasnt great and they were not attentive. It was so bad I had to order an extra sushi roll just to not leave starving and that was meh. Was hoping for a nice new sushi place in the neighborhood but apparently not. My meal was also over $35 just for a app, ramen and roll

Got takeout should've dined in the place was pretty and staff were noticeably nice. Food was great and fresh I got the shrimp crunchy roll and chicken pad Thai. I appreciate the style served.

Absolutely delicious food and menu. The red curry is so good, I crave it every night. Staff is amazing, food is delicious, 8th Ave needed a great sushi and Thai restaurant, and now they have it!

Aor is amazing and great at her job. Makes you feel at home immediately. I had the spicy salmon and mackerel nigiri and both are very good. I may be a little biased because this is my neighborhood spot, but everyone would be well served trying this place out. Ask for Aor.

This place is THE BEST!! We ordered take out. I initially thought I’d only eat half because the portion was large. It was SO GOOD, I ate it all!! Ordered the Pangang Curry and Pad Thai. Both divine. We plan to go back soon.

Everything was fresh AF and they even helped me with my toddler! Gave her rice and water and soon as we sat down! They get it!!!! Great spot for lunch or dinner! Highly recommend the Ahi Tuna plate!

Food was great but what made it truly 5-stars were the people! We have a toddler and they were so kind and understanding while we struggled. 10/10 on the make your own sushi burrito too!

This is the best sushi I have had so far in the Nashville area! I come from Murfreesboro and have not found a good sushi spot at all where I live. The place is super clean and the sushi is very fresh!! Our server was so kind and attentive!! This is now my family’s new sushi spot!! Love it!!

I had a wonderful meal at Sumo Sushi Thai and Bar. I was in the area, and if it had not been for the two employees outside handing out menus, I am not sure if I would have ended up there, but happy I did. This is an outpost of their Bell Road restaurant - Yoshi Sushi & Thai and they have only been open 5-days.

Service:
The staff could not have been any nicer or helpful. They offered menu suggestions, were super attentive and made me feel like I was one of their closest friends.

Vibe:
The space is comfortable, but a little cavernous. I spoke with the Sushi Chef, who is one of the family members who owns the restaurant, and he said it is still a work in progress. The mural on the wall was a custom mural and super fun.

Food:
On this trip I stuck with Sushi and it was fresh and delicious. I had both the R&B Roll (Spicy Crab, Cucumber, Topped with Tuna, Avocado Spicy Mayo, and Eel Sauce) and Ruby Roll (Shrimp Tempura, Cucumber, Topped with Tuna, Avocado, Crunchy and Special Sauce). I definitely plan on going back and trying some of their Thai dishes.

On a related note, I spoke with a couple from Ohio who decided not to wait in line at a nearby well-known hot chicken restaurant and I said they had made a great choice. I ran into them later that evening and they too had nothing but rave reviews of Sumo Sushi Thai & Bar.

I would definitely recommend you try this place!
