Relaxed, family-owned restaurant serving Japanese & Thai classics, including sushi.
I had been under the impression that Koi was overpriced so for years I didn't go....until recently. The food is great, prices are great in comparison with other similar restaurants. I got lunch portion Green Curry with Chicken, choice of soup or salad and a spring roll for around $12....
Overpriced. Order a dinner portion entree was charged almost $18 and realized I was not given any of the items that come with the entree. I paid $18 for what looks to me like a lunch/ala carte portion. I called in to order for pick up and the person over the phone did not let me know there was more to my entree. Very disappointed and deceived by this restaurant. I’ve had better at a better price point.
Tonight is the last time I will ever eat or patronize Koi sushi and Thai. I ordered a Goyza and a cup of soup to go. I get home, and I take my first bite into the goyza and there’s a huge piece of bone that I crunched down on and crack my tooth on. Upon calling the restaurant to express concern with this, Sake, the manager, is rude and unhelpful and unapologetic. Her only response is, “well we don’t make the Goyza, that’s all premade and we buy it from a third-party company, so I don’t know what you really want me to do. I’ll look to refund your money and see if I can do that.” Know that they are not making their food fresh, and as such, there’s no telling what is in it. It is fair to say that the managerial staff does not stand by the quality of their food and have any kind of consideration for their customers.
If you don't get the chicken fried rice, you're seriously missing out. It's THE BEST I've ever tasted, not even being dramatic. Me and my boyfriend have been eating here for over 8 years and we love it. The chicken spring rolls are my favorite appetizer. We always get the dragon roll and the red devil roll.
Health Inspection Score = 64.
Date of inspection: Jan. 23.
Examples of violations: Employee was preparing sushi-grade salmon in the three-compartment sink with no gloves on; person in charge did not wash hands with soap before cooking food; employee prepared raw fish on a table in the dish area after only using a wet wiping cloth to clean the table; live cockroaches throughout the establishment and on sticky traps.
I feel that the patio area seems to be a lot more updated and clean…however the main part of the restaurant seems old and has a need for a deep clean. The teapot that was brought to serve the hot tea was old & broken (rust-like stains on the inside of the pot…this is a stainless steel pot, so makes you think it’s not been truly clean in a bit - only rinsed out. Also the mug that is given with the tea showed great age - cracks and tea stains…would have preferred either smaller traditional type teacups, or just a plain mug. The tea stained patina look here is not as desirable and comes across as unclean). Additionally, there were boxes and other things lying in the main walking area - specifically the ramp to get to the restrooms. Restrooms are ok, however they did have a slight raw sewage smell to them inside (especially the men’s restroom).
Apart from the above mentioned things - service is good, food is fine, and presentation decent (otherwise I’d lean towards 1 stars…if only they would be given to a little more update inside and cleaning of the things brought to the table, they could easily change the perception and raise the ratings). There is plenty of seating - both inside and in the patio. I would suggest eating in the patio area space, as it does seem to be kept up well and clean. IMHO

Good food slow kitchen ok service.
Been back several times and everything has been fantastic. Delicious food, attentive service. GO try it

It was great

As a local resident of 10 years, I’ve visited Koi several times because of their good food selection and reasonable prices. However, the service has consistently been disappointing. I often find myself having to flag down the staff after my order is taken and food is served, whether it’s for a beverage refill, napkins, or condiments. This has become an expectation when dining here.
Because of the subpar service, I usually tip the standard minimum of 15-18%. During my recent visit for lunch, I added a 15% tip, only to receive an email from my credit card company questioning a 35% tip charge. I immediately disputed it, as I did not authorize that amount. My credit card company is now handling the dispute on my behalf, but in my opinion, this feels like outright theft.
I stopped giving Koi my business for three years after the pandemic when they implemented fees for takeout containers and automatically added gratuity to all orders. I had just started going back, but this latest incident is the ultimate betrayal of customer trust and service. I won’t be returning. In my view, this is both unethical and unacceptable behavior.

I had the red curry, which is a favorite dish of mine. It was delicious! The dragon roll sushi was spicy, savory, and delectable. Thank you for the yummy dish.
Found a piece of hair in our sushi roll
Perfect sushi..
We lived in Asia for two years and this reminds me of my favorite dishes from there more than anywhere else I've been to in Nashville. As good as it gets.
$17 for bland pad thai. Not worth it
If you don't get the chicken fried rice, you're seriously missing out. It's THE BEST I've ever tasted, not even being dramatic. Me and my boyfriend have been eating here for over 8 years and we love it. The chicken spring rolls are my favorite appetizer. We always get the dragon roll and the red devil roll.
The food's good but whoever does the take orders often seems annoyed and irritated on the phone.. Environment is nice but don't expect a nice easy conversation if your ordering take out.
I've eaten here at least 6 times since 2018. I love how the menu has the photo of the sushi you're wanting. The atmosphere is beautiful too. (Just a heads up on parking.)
Thus far, this place has the biggest and tastiest crunchy roll I've ever had in Nashville. Thus far! I forget the one's name. I'm not sure if it's the "Dragon Roll" or the "Firecracker Roll"? But I remember the sauce on top was sweet. And the sushi was so... 😳 big. I could hardly get it with the chopsticks.
Also, highly recommend the Fried Banana Ice Cream. 🍌🍨 It's like …banana cream mini egg rolls? It's hard to describe. Worth it.
I was not super impressed with my meal. The sushi was good. The teriyaki dinner was sub par. The waitress didn't even ask me what I wanted to drink and just brought me a water with lemon. The waitress took forever to come back although they were super slow that night. Probably won't be back when I visit the area.
Malísima atención, la mesera es muy grosera y no estaba full el sitio ☝🏻
To go order:
Ordered a ginger salad and got a few pieces of plain lettuce with no dressing for $4.20.
This place is SO GOOD. The sushi is really fresh. The tempura was the perfect crunch, the gyoza was amazing, the miso soup was rich and salty and delicious. We will ABSOLUTELY be back.
Food was great, great service, and got our food fast!
Everything great! Food, service even the background music. Tai ice coffee is amazing. They also welcome to my small dog in the patio. Highly recommend
I like the food well enough although I only order the same 2 items. However, the service is HORRIBLE! As a couple of the other reviews stated, the older lady (manager, hostess) seems to always be in a bad mood and doesn't want to be bothered unless you're a regular. After my last visit to this place, I decided I will not be back.
We ordered 3 sets of sushi, and they were terrible. The fish seemed spoiled, and there was a taste of stale fish. In one sushi, I found fish scales.
This place is not what it used to be. Go somewhere else. There are so many better options now with infinitely better food quality for the same price.
I've of my favorite spots for sushi. Kathy is behind the bar most nights and she is great. Always friendly and gives great service.
We came in around 1:30 after lunch. Our server was rude the entire time. They had someone in working on their system which was fine but that had nothing to do with us as customers. We came in ready to spend money. We were so excited to be there and the attitude of the server killed it. We spent 80 dollars and left knowing we would never come back again.
Very quiet and serene. Came here with a friend and got an easy meal.
Sadly not super impressed with this place. I think my service was wonderful. However, the food was only okay. I got the salmon twist roll, the papaya salad, and miso soup. The roll was okay. The giant chunk of cream cheese wasn’t my favorite. However, they do have a cool way of showing you pictures of the rolls on an iPad, so that was on me for picking that one. The fish was fresh so that’s a plus.
However, the biggest disappointment was the papaya salad. I have had many variations of this dish. It is a spicy, salty, sour, fishy dish. That is what I expected, especially since they told me they serve the Lao way which is typically more fishy than the Thai way. Also it is usually served with something to eat it with like sticky rice, lettuce, long bean, etc. They didn’t have sticky rice so I asked for romaine. No romaine, so they gave me iceberg. They charged me an extra $2 for a chunk of iceberg. I get it, you gotta make money though. However, the dish was not spicy at all. It really lacked in flavor and it is typically such a flavorful dish. I only tasted fish sauce… that’s it. Really disappointing. I ate it as the papaya and tomatoes did seem fresh at least.
I did see people come in and order things like lo mein or other cooked foods, so that may be good. I’d consider coming back and trying something else. But unfortunately I was not impressed with Koi :( besides the service being kind.
This restaurant has very good Vegetable Egg rolls. It has a cozy interior with an option to choose their enclosed porch for dining.
The staff was accommodating and welcoming.
Great food and service
Excellent food and service .
The "host" couldn't care less. The servers couldn't care less.. It seems like everyone is being forced to work there for some crime they committed. Certainly a management issue.
Easily the best Japanese and Thai cuisine in East Nashville. Every dish is on point. I could seriously eat here for every meal for the rest of my life and be happy. They are also quite fast with both making and serving the food, and their delivery times are fast as well. Any mistake they have ever made that I have brought to their attention has been promptly fixed. The staff is very friendly as well. 10/10
Dark as hell, horrible service, food was slimy and trash. Just go to McDonald’s honestly. Ig they have a lot of beer on tap so alcoholics are welcome that’s about it.
Ridiculously overpriced for below average food. Fried rice was just bad.
Prices on the google menu don’t match the actual prices. We were charged $13.45 for a lunch bento box that is supposed to he $8.95 - 50% higher!
When my girlfriend politely questioned this the women at the counter quite rudely told her that “we have nothing to do with Yelp!” I’m not sure where the mention of Yelp came from
The food itself was fine but not great
Food was delicious!! So glad we came
We had lunch at Koi late last week. It's one of my go to restaurants and one of the few that is a local spot not geared toward tourists in our neighborhood. They consistently provide great food/service at reasonable prices. They also have a very underrated beer selection/bar. Highly recommended.
Great place for a fist date 🙂
Beware….very high delivery costs and the food is not good. We called to let them know but all they could tell us was the food was made fresh. It may have been made fresh but it wasn’t tasty. Very disappointing. Buyer beware!
Charged extra for delivery and took over an hour. Blind sided on extra delivery charge. Bait and switch.
Best basil fried rice I've had anywhere. Big fan of Koi, an East Nash staple. Everything I've had here is top notch. Love the cozy, soft-lighting atmosphere too.
The food is consistently good. Great price on the lunch bento. So much food! Service was exceptional today.
Food was substandard at best. Soup for Ramen was too thin and both the soup for the Ramen and Pho were incredibly flavorless. The protein was given as if they were scraping for scraps; beef and chicken were also overcooked. Noodles tasted like they came from the packages at the grocery store. The restaurant itself is very dark and unappealing. If you are looking for Asian food, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.
Shrimp with spicy eggplant is probably the best I’ve ever had. Service very good. Reasonably priced. I wish they would turn some lights on. I was expecting them to hand me a flashlight when I first walked in. It took about 20 minutes for my eyes to adjust and then I saw it’s a nice place.
This place has a roll called the VIP roll and it is amazing. They charge more per roll if you uber eats (I think $3) but even still worth it. They also have a bar which has a great atmosphere
It’s just a good solid 3 stars in food. I think the atmosphere and decor is awful in this place. Very dark, no character. They could redecorate and it would bump up the atmosphere factor. The food is just good. Nothing spectacular. Their shrimp Pad Thai and Lad Naa is solid. I’ll give them that. Sushi is meh. It feels like it’s trying to be somewhat fusion with American Chinese food and Thai mixed with Japanese. Not a huge fan of fusion. Being Thai myself I have my own standards given the limited ingredients in America. They’re trying and doing their best. The rest of the family likes it, but I think it could improve in flavor and atmosphere. Service is always excellent, hence why it deserves 5 stars.
The service was amazing and the food was great as well as prices.
Mala experiencia la mesera fue grosera
I eat there at least once per week
Yes and yes, eat here.
Love this place!! Willing to travel 45 minutes out of the way for some Koi! Staff is super friendly and nice!!
The enclosed patio is awesome and the family I went with loved their food. I’m picky about rice and this rice was excellent. I have several food allergies and would not recommend this place to someone with several severe food allergies because the options are limited and the server didn’t seem to be able to address allergy questions. I ate some plain rice and plain veggies which worked out fine, but allergy-friendly is not the strength here.
I got the Masaman curry about 4 weeks ago and its the best curry I ever had. I can't stop thinking about it. I will definitely go again!
The place was great about 1-2 years ago. The last time I went the food quality had gone down and prices went up. Also the service was horrible. Out of all the waitresses only 1 smiled and greeted us well. The hostess was probably the worst. The atmosphere of the place dark with sticky tables. It’s unfortunate because I had returned to this place excited on how great it was only to be disappointed and no longer wanting to return.
Dark, danky place with flavorless food. Sushi was good
Food and service were very good.
Fantastically, consistent, fresh food with a wonderfully warm and personable staff
not sure if this is a bar or dining establishment. They had a hell of time getting our order correct. So sadly this place is a one time visit as far as i’m concerned.
Prob won’t return. 7.50$ for edamame seems a bit over priced. Especially since there was literally 20 pods in the bowl. For 5$ the bowl should be overflowing. The tempura was very bland and soft. It was hot. So I know it was cooked fresh. But I’ve never had it come out soft before. Too many other places to go. If I’m paying these prices, I expect better.
The food was great, lots of creative rolls to choose from made well. Friendly efficient wait staff and a pretty decent atmosphere.
Wonderful attentive staff and great food make this a must try restaurant!
Went to a graduation party. Great overall
Great Hawaii fried rice!!
One of my favorite sushi places in town. Staff is the best and the food is stellar.
I’ve been here twice and receive the same terrible service. If you want to sit for a few hours with sub par service but high prices then go visit. The food is decent but the servers and bartender act like you’re bothering them. They forgot to put my food order in and I had to go find my server and ask her what the holdup was because it was 30 minutes and when I found them she just ran to the back and started asking the cook to cook. It’s just very unprofessional and the last place you should go and East Nashville for any type of Asian cuisine. There are literally dozens of others that charge the same amount and way better service and aesthetically pleasing
Place is gross... everything is gross I don't understand how people go here.. my food came out of the kitchen cold and the sushi isn't worth the price.. its too overpriced for the wait time and the horrible quality.. go anywhere else
I moved away from Nashville in 2016 and I still crave the basil fried rice and pad thai from here
I loved this Place. Very cute and sushi was perfect.
This is my favorite restraint in town. I always get the Dragon Roll and it seems to get better every time. I love being able to choose where I sit and all of the staff is friendly every time I go. I have taken many friends here and they all love it. The restrooms are clean as well. I would also say that this restaurant is fairly priced. The Dragon Roll is $13 I believe.
Some of the worst Thai food I've ever had in Nashville. Chicken pad Thai that's pretty gross, fresh spring rolls were sad. Prices ridiculous for what you got
Be careful ordering sushi. The menu doesn’t have prices on it, so we were told to check online for pricing prior to ordering. When the bill came there was a ~$3-$5 difference per roll than stated online. We questioned before paying, but a different waitress told us the first waitress should have told us to use an app, not the online menu to which we were sent.
Overall food was “fine” but not good enough to bring us back after the service.
First they informed us that the menu was not updated and we should expect and additional 2 to 3 dollars extra per item. The sushi was not very good. The spicy tuna was like a canned tuna. And don't charge people $3 for a soda drink and bring them a can of soda. Are you kidding? This place is way over priced for food thats just ok. Will not recommend.
Food is great, and the staff is very friendly
This used to be my to go to sushi spot, but lately my sushi hasn't been the best
The worst experience i’ve ever had at any restaurant, and if i could leave 0 stars I would. the soup was pure salt, the salad was water, and the “crunchy shrimp roll” was only tempura flakes and rice. When we complained, the manager and waitresses told us we were lying about what was in our food and were insanely rude. The waitresses ignored our table the rest of the night after our first complaint and we had to ask the host for the ticket. They then took my sister’s food away after the complaint, and proceeded to try and charge us for her sushi. All of the food was flavorless, the service was unacceptable, and the staff argued with us when we asked to take the sushi off the bill. Please do not give them your money, or your time. ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!
I ate teriyaki chicken which was one of my favorites and Thai Dishes the customer service was impeccable atmosphere was great and I loved it it was feeling and satisfying. For Valentine's Day me and my wife ate Teriyaki chicken crab Ragu Chicken wings and Topped off with Chili lime sauce
My partner and I took our guests/family to a late lunch (1/14/23). It was a very fun experience. A lot of sushi which I find very, very good here. Their miso soup is one of my favorites. My partner and I come eat here one to two times a month. We enjoy their food (fresh salads every time) very much.
Very dark, cold vibe. Below average sushi & terribly overpriced (which is probably why they didn’t include the prices on the menu). We were the only people in the restaurant and waited a very long time to be served. Lots of better sushi options in the area
I really enjoyed mimi she was attentive and food was fabulous
Fantastic!!! Get the edamame with the garlic sauce! Everything was delicious. The service was great! Ask for Kim!
The sushi ans sashimi was generous and fresh. Atmosphere worked well for my luncheon. Service was good.
Quality of food was truly terrible, I paid almost $50 for just rice. Low quality steak for the teriyaki. no tempura in my sushi. Sushi was again very expensive for a single crab stick and an avacado.
Don't waste your time or money, any other sushi spot in the neighborhood is better than this place. I want my money back.
Fun environment
Solid sushi and Thai with a great bar. Excellent draft beer selection, fast service, and lots of TVs for your sportsball viewing pleasure. A Nashville staple.
The experience was terrible. They wouldn't give the whole to go order (ordered beef bento box, wouldnt give us the soup) because it was a to go order ,and they had the nerve to charge $10 extra to pick up a to go order! There were all kinds of hidden fee's which made the to go order super expensive. Feels like a scam, do not visit this restaurant! Ordered 2 sushi rolls and a bento box, totaling $80!!. The food was very lack luster and the portions were small. The "manager" on duty lied when asked about extra charges stating that restaurants are charging for to go orders when in fact its the opposite.
I love the atmosphere and the service but the food wasn't working for me. I enjoyed the volcano roll but it still seemed way too massive to eat, the other rolls I tried had sweeta nd sour which sounded good to me but I didn't enjoy it very much paired with the fishy flavor. If I do return I will be trying the hibachi next time.
We poor customer service. No concept of pleasing the customer when the entree is less than expected.
My go to spot in East
My first time having Pho. I also had the Crab Rangoons. Restaurant was nice the atmosphere seemed nice. The Pho was OK, But the price is too high, for beef broth with side items. The crab rangoons we're good but I have had better! I will go back and try something else!!
So food was great I got the tofu cashew. But we decided to have dessert and it was frozen solid. Then the waitress microwaved the dessert and well that made my friend blow a fuse. We left went to an authentic Italian place for our dessert.
If you're going for sushi and dinner go for it but dessert go elsewhere.
Also this is not my 1st experience with this place but our waitress was all over the place and we were highly disappointed. I had to order my appetizer like 3x. Smh.
Best vegetable spring rolls in TN though.
Excellent food. Great vibe and customer service. Can't wait to get back to Nashville to experience it again.
Took out some take out. Ate some pork and it was damn good. I'm not sure what part of the pork it was. My friend got something without pork. They aren't big into meat. But I respect them and their life choices. Cool one they are.
Good Thai foos
Decent sushi for Nashville, the staff was really friendly.
Food was great! We had a large party with children and they allowed us to have the entire indoor patio to ourselves.
Great food, Better service! Highly recommend.
Not as good as it used to be. So sad
Great food. Excellent flavors. Customer service was adequate.
Consistency is key and they’ve nailed it!
Food is fine. But they charged a ridiculous 10% 'online order fee' on an $80+ order. Won't be ordering from them again. Just charge a fair price for your food, don't nickel and dime your customers to make your menu prices appear to be reasonable.
If I could give this a zero I would. It was a waste of time and money. The food is so bland and extremely overpriced. I called them to see if we could get a refund or partial refund but they refused. Also we explained that their online prices were different but they kept making excuses. They also charge $1 for hot sauce and everything was unseasoned. I don’t know if they ran out of salt but there wasn’t even salt on the edamame. Throwing out all the food so don’t bother going here if you’re looking for quality food.
Chicken teriyaki Lord have mercy the portion was right I was hungry they came through the taste was authentic and that climate was fabulous I was taken by the outstanding Beauty
Always a good day when I have koi. Affordable delicious sushi rolls for fans of any type of roll.
Best Thai and sushi in Nashville!
Nice place and good food
Do not order here. Placed a delivery order that never arrived. Had the manager of that establishment call me multiple names and tell me to "take it as a loss" because their driver went to the wrong house. Unbelievably unprofessional and rude.
Nice atmosphere, very clean, beautiful place, sweet, beautiful women (servers) were nice, chat with me, my cousins as if we knew each other for years, love the food they serve
Nice spot on the east.
Great selection of Thai menu items.
Sushi is delicious, service is great!
Skip it. The chicken teriyaki was like eating pure hot sauce and runny. When I said it was inedible to the server she said oh and brought the check. $17 for two bits of something no one could eat. Go anywhere else.
The portions have gotten smaller and the pad thai noodles were mushy!!! I ordered 2 meals and the order was 40 dollars!!will never order from them again!!
Great food and awesome customer service.
Excellent food, excellent service, and excellent place! I loved the vibes, and I got to try some new food! Love it!
Today was my first time trying this place. We got the bento box. The miso soup was nasty. The fried rice was disgusting, the worst I've ever tasted. The rest of the food was just ok. Im highly disappointed in the price we paid for this food. Not to mention it was 2:55pm and lunch ends at 3 but we couldnt order from the lunch menu. The worst $50 I've ever wasted.
Do not order online from their website once charged once you arrive to pick up your food the will shake you down for more money or not give you the food you ordered.
I don't know about the Thai food but don't order the sushi. First time in my life I have sent back sushi because it was inedible. I also tried others at my table and found that all of them had gummy rice and overly fishy fish- a sign that its old. When I told the server that something was wrong she became defensive and said that they had been serving it all day and no one has complained. I was offered noodles or a new roll. At that point I declined because I was so grossed out- if you've ever had bad fish in your mouth you'll understand. I was stuck with $85 bill of food that I didn't even eat. Gross.
We ordered Soup, Chicken Spring Rolls, and Sushi Rolls. The Soup and Spring rolls were good. The sushi rice had a gelatinous consistency. On one roll the fish tasted rancid. When we let the staff know they became defensive instead of offering to solve the problem. I do not recommend and will not come here again.
Crab & avocado sushi with ginger salad...Yum!
