Straightforward Japanese eatery offering sushi & house rolls, plus tempura & other kitchen dishes.
The owners are so kind and friendly. I've always had a good experience here. It's easy to order and always ready quick. There's variety in the menu and everything I've ordered is great. Please try Asahi if you haven't. I really want them to do well.
We were looking for a lunch stop on our way to Cheekwood botanical gardens. Found this little gem via the map and ratings. This place is not doing a lot of business, but it should be because the sushi was delicious. We had the ginger salad, very good, the spicy edamame, very good, and we had three rolls, the Firecracker, the Volcano, and the Asahi Special and they were all excellent. The owner was having to handle the entire restaurant by herself and she did a wonderful job. Sadly, she is struggling to hire employees because her business level is too low, probably due in-part to being lost in a fairly cramped little strip mall. You really should try this place, the food is excellent and it would be a real shame if it doesn’t sustain.
Stopped by this quiet spot to order maki rolls & miso to go. When I ordered, the owner, Noi, pointed out that I could get an additional roll for the same price if I did the special, which I appreciated. The price was reasonable, my food was ready in 5-7 minutes, there was gluten free soy sauce, and there was quite a bit of fish packed into each maki roll I ordered. Do stop by if you get the chance!
Easily the best sushi I have had in a long time! Kids had the lo mein and are so much of it — they loved it too! The atmosphere is so welcoming, and everyone is so friendly. Will recommend to everyone I know! We’ll be back soon!
Great food, great sushi, what more can you want?
Such a quaint place to have a great meal . Love visiting with the owner. Everything on the menu is well done! I wish I could post my picture

Very delicious authentic Thai food.
The team working when I was there was awesome! So sweet. I was offered a glass or wine on the house! I had a great solo dinner here for a great price.
Super nice Thai couple making great Thai food and great sushi! Cozy atmosphere!
Great evening, great food and great sake!!
Not sure why this place has such high rating. Pad Thai was disappointing, Tom kha soup was not good. The only redeeming thing about my dinner was an eel bowl.
I ordered tofu dish and it was really tasty.

Very friendly, clean, tasty, and prices were not too bad
Great! The food was delicious and very reasonable as far as the prices, love it delicious!!! Service highly unbelievable!

Hidden gem in Belle Meade. Fresh rolls, great service. I recommend checking Asahi out the next time you’re craving sushi!
We hadn’t been here in a while, and I saw someone post about having new owners, so we decided to give it a try again. This place is a hidden gem. I feel like I’m in the know of a cool little sushi place that we never have to wait to get in. We’ve been several times, and each time it gets better. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and it’s the best shrimp tempura I’ve ever had. They have a really big sushi menu, and offer Thai food and Pho as well. The red curry was amazing, and every specialty sushi roll we’ve tried has been super fresh and delicious. Great gyoza, soup, and other apps. Can’t wait to go back and try more. Reasonable prices and friendly owners/servers, and plenty of free parking. Highly recommend.
The food was great and service was very friendly. Came after lunch, so less of a crowd and a pleasant atmosphere.
Really good sushi at a really good price. 10/10
The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious! The staff were friendly and welcoming as well. I'll definitely be going back!
UPDATE 7/2024: Unfortunately this is no longer one of my favorites in Nashville. New owners greatly changed the Japanese selections and raised the prices. They asked if we wanted our oshinko and onigiri cut, those aren't questions you ask for those items. The onigiri they left on the menu is not what onigiri is. They garnished salmon nigiri with lemon which affected the taste. Sushi rice tasted too sweet. You may as well take anything Japanese off the menu and go exclusively Thai.
OLD: One of the few places in Nashville for authentic Japanese food and the only place in Nashville that has Onigiri on the menu! Onigiri for the win!!
Really fresh and delicious food. We enjoyed our meal and will be going back!
Really good food. They also do thai food . I got thom kha soup and it was great. I would go again.
I ordered pickup. Order was wrong twice. Sushi roll totally fell apart. Soft crab app was so tiny. For $10 they should have added 2 . No rice no soy sauce. Just a bad experience. Ordered from them in the past and food was good. Man who took order was grouchy. Not what I'd expect when I'm hoping for the best
Excellent sushi. Huge selection of rolls. Friendly service.
It has been over a decade since I ate at Asahi, since we moved across town. It just so happens that we moved back, and had a chance to become reacquainted: so glad we did. The staff was super friendly, and the food tasty. This has become our go-to place for comfy family meals.
Good rolls for a good price. Service is great. Bar is fun to sit at and watch the chef make the rolls!
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely authentic Japanese restaurant in Nashville. It’s locally owned by the sweetest couple who put their heart into their business and truly care about your experience. Not to mention, the food is absolutely amazing – we loved everything we tried. Can’t wait to go back and try more. Highly recommend!!
Great local spot for delicious sushi. Have been coming here for a bit and the food and atmosphere is always solid. Love it!
I travel a lot for work and this place is top tier in all the areas! From the fish selection to the staff, to the decor, it does not disappoint and will leave you wanting more.
They need to clean and repair their furniture better
Always warm, friendly welcome! Good food and pleasant atmosphere.
Got the yellowtail and soft shell crab. Yellowtail was dry and didn't taste fresh at all. Crab was overcooked and tasted burnt.
Service was okay, until I got the check and the price was changed from 4.25 to 7.25 for the yellowtail maki.
Wouldn't had been an issue if the waitress would have just verbally explained instead of adjusting the number with pen when the check came.
Food was amazing and fresh and everyone was friendly. Love the menu and will definitely be back.
90% of the food is great! For a buffet, that means a 100% approval rating!
Service was better than "satisfactory", which for a buffet is 100%.
This place is a A+ choice for dinner on those nights when you could cook, but really just wanna eat & go to bed.
I love Asahi! This place is truly a hidden gem. I would honestly say this is the best sushi restaurant in Nashville. The owners are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. I go here at least once a week for take out.
Just got back from Japan. This was a huge letdown. Honestly I can make sushi rolls better.
A week ago me and my wife went to this place and it was great we got the Sushi boat for about 63,00 dollars, tonight I went there on Valentines night and I was totally disappointed I order a Sashimi order for 32,00 dollars it was so small l seriously believe it wouldn't feed a mouse and my son order Bulgogi he wouldn't eat it I would recommend Soul Garden anyway I would Highly recommend Sonobana
Sooo delicious and quick service! The miso is carefully flavored and the tofu is fantastic. On a different visit we were able to order grilled tuna collar and it was absolutely succulent!
This is a nice cozy quiet place with excellent sushi and udon.
Always great. The sushi is always fresh and inventive, and the husband and wife team who run it are total pros with the restaurant being immaculate.
My husband and son and I went tonight and were so impressed. The sushi was fresh - some of the best I’ve had in a long time. And the service was excellent. Such a friendly place. And clean. We’ll be back.
Tough to find good sushi in Nashville, especially on the west side. But the man behind Asahi has been slinging tasty fish in Belle Meade forever, and it's always very good. I don't think you can get 5 star sushi in Nashville, but this is at the top of the list!
Absolutely delicious food! Can't wait to go back.
Ordered Beef Teriyaki. Possibly the toughest piece of meat I've ever tried to eat.
Really good sushi and great service!. Parking - not so good at lunch.
Painfully overpriced. Ordered a ton of food and left feeling like I’d been robbed.
A safe haven for tired souls in the greater Nashville area. Had the pleasure of bonding with the owners, who are nothing but warm and welcoming. The food matched the cozy atmosphere and was top notch. Especially the brothy items. Definitely would recommend reaching this rather secluded gem of this city.
I tried this place for the first time and it was absolutely fabulous. I would almost always go to a Japanese restaurant for sushi, but it was lunchtime and I felt more like just a teriyaki combo kind of thing.
So, I got the teriyaki salmon, and it was absolutely the best that I’ve had in my life. The miso soup was deeply colored and flavorful, the salad and ginger dressing fresh, and the salmon came out sizzling/steaming and perfectly cooked (the skillet stayed hot the entire meal!).
I cannot wait to go back and try the sushi.
Best kept sushi secret in Nashville.
Only two or three workers, but great sushi! The staff are like friends to you, too! This is an underrated place. Hopefully, it will become more popular.
I have been going to Asahi for years! The food is fantastic; truly this is one of my favorite places in Nashville. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming, making you feel like you are part of the family as soon as you darken the door. Cannot sing enough praise for Asahi!
Excellent sushi spot. A little on the pricey side but the ambiance, food quality, and service was superb.
It has been a favorite of our family for over 20 years!!
Muy ben sushi
Food and service was good
The food and service was excellent!
Very excellent chef serves you directly . High class Japanese vibes. Food is clean and fresh and tasty. Excellent saki!
Great food and family owned❗ Great service as well❗
Super sweet couple that helped us out! We got a fried roll and some drinks. Very good!
Best sushi in Nashville
Best Japanese food in the area! Luke and his family are super welcoming. They'll treat you like family!
Authentic Japanese Food made fresh Period.
I’ve barely reviewed anything and I’m not someone who normally talks bad on a business, but this was the worst, most overpriced sushi I have ever had, and I love sushi.
The rolls were quite small and very expensive for a low-to-medium level sushi shop. I didn’t notice the price until after I had purchased and consumed. Average roll came to just over $12.
The rolls were very small and they were very stingy with their crab meat and avocado. The rice didn’t stick together and even the wasabi was weak because it was probably old.
I went with my friend and both of us now have a stomach ache.
The workers were very friendly and they were very neat and clean.
Absolutely delicious. Had an assortment from the menu, the Trevor Roll has the most delicate tempura coating. A place that will help you remember a time before the sushi buffet cattle calls. One downside was they did not have Uni the day we went in. Understandable given the circumstances.
very friendly people and lovely atmosphere, i really enjoyed all the decorations. i also appreciate the safety precautions the owner took by wearing a plastic mouth covering at all times and wiping down my card and pen before handing them to me. great sushi and would return!
As a New York New Jersey transplant I’m pretty snooty about my Japanese food. Since moving here this is the only restaurant I’d go to. The owners are kind and they’ll make you whatever you want and it’s also fresh and tasty
Awesome place. Owner seemed genuinely nice and enjoyed what he is doing.
Had a California roll and Hibachi Terryaki chicken. Super tasty.
Priced pretty well too. Rolls are around 8 to 12 dollars and most have 8 pieces. He makes them to order right in front of you.
Will definitely be back.
Amazing sushi, this place is a gem! The best in Nashville easily. Coming from Los Angeles, this competes easily. The owner is super friendly and helpful, the prices are fantastic, and the experience is always pleasant as can be. Will be coming more often for sure!!
Really loved this place. The sushi was more authentic than I'm used to around here. The owner was running the whole place when I got there, working his tail off with a smile. Will definitely be back
I got to be the only person with the chief and ate more sushi than I have ever eaten in my life, spent more then I have ever spent in my life, but ate the most wonderful rolls I have ever eaten in my life. This place is on point💯
Very authinic food, great price and great food!
Great food at a reasonable price
Best sushi in the area by a long shot.
Great place!! First timer here. Loved their sushi and the service was amazing. I went in on a Friday night with a friend at dinner time and we were the only ones there. Perfect spot to have a long conversation with a friend! Highly recommend
We went for my husband's birthday. We had a great time. It is a family owned restaurant. The owners are so sweet and attentive. We enjoyed all of our food as well. We're planning on becoming regular customers.
Very good food
My favorite place for Japanese and Korean food.
Very excellent sushi and very nice and approachable chef and host/waitress. Had Asahi special A, which came with veggie tempura, regular sushi with soup. Very fresh, made in front of you and every slice of sushi is sliced for each order. The sushi is very fresh. Very friendly and attentive owners who make sure you are well taken care of. Would definitely come back!
Wonderful
A large variety of foods..buffet style..low cost per person. Often a choice for a place to go for a good meal
Had the best vegetable roll ever. The person who was there was patient and answered all of my questions. Pleasant atmosphere.
Great sushi. Try the off menu special rolls.
Great little hole in the wall!! The New York roll was amazing. My husband and I will definitely be back!
My boyfriend and I just had lunch at Asahi. Wonderful fresh food and excellent service! We had the Super Crunchy Roll, gyoza, soft shell crab appetizer, squid salad and shrimp tempura... all was wonderful! We will be back soon!
Luke and his family always prepare a great meal.
Casual setting off the beaten path. Friday night at 730 pm and while we dined, there were only two other tables. The service was very good. Before our food arrived, we were given warm hand towels. We had gyoza and squid as our appetizers. My date loved the gyoza; he tries it every place that offers it. Our sushi was very tasty. I recommend the white castle roll and rainbow roll.
I used to go every Friday night in the old location down the street, that was 17 years ago and I still miss those evenings. Now I head out there whenever I can for lunch and try have business meetings there whenever possible. Great sushi and great people. Never once had a bad meal after at least 60 visits.
This is my go to neighborhood sushi place and has been for years. Consistent and good! The owners are wonderful, and hers never a wait like at the trendy sushi places. I’ve never had a bad meal. I typically order nigiri and it’s always fresh and tasty. If you want good traditional sushi this is the place. Hands down. And some of the best tea ever! Now if you want “sushi” that’s covered in sauces and crunchy things go to a trendy place and wait for a table.
I’ve been eating here for many years and just don’t understand the 1 star reviews.
Very good food and nice people.
Best in town
Great sushi.
I called multiple times asking for information on the restaurant and they were not helpful at all.
Our neighborhood sushi
Great first experience eating sushi
Great place
Luke is the man! I love this place, having been eating there for over 10 years. I wonder where some of the reviewers actually ate because what they said in their review does not describe what Luke serves. The reason I go there is he does NOT cover things in mayo. If you want Americanized sushi full of mayo and other stuff this is not the place. If you want fresh authentic sushi than this is the place.
The titanic roll was so good
Sushi is good, the salada roll is amazing and fancy, belle meade roll, dragon and rainbow is my favorite. Highly recommended for the sushi lover.
I love it. Teriyaki sauce is good. And the salad ginger dressing. Sushi and belle meade roll, volcano roll and appetizer bulgogi are my favorite. 👍👌
I hope people don't confuse with Asihi Asian Cuisine in Bellevue!
The Google reviews were great so we were really excited to try, but sadly this was the worst sushi and meal in general I have ever had to pay for, hands down. Wish we had checked Yelp before eating. They were nice, but that is it. The menu had a ton of rolls with imitation crab or were fried with mayo on top, nothing special and most were quite uninspired and just strange. Couldn't find a standard roll, so tried to order closest to our taste. Now I know when I see a menu like that to just run.
Asked for no crab in one roll, the waitress proudly brought out the roll without avocado, rather than omitting crab. But she did not understand English enough to fix this. Fine, but onto the rest. They all tasted fishy, like fish that had been brought to temperature incorrectly or had been stored too long. Just....bad. One roll taste kind of chemically, never tasted anything so awful, and I had nowhere to spit it out unfortunately. I tried a couple more, but still had that bad taste in my mouth! Even after a little ginger. The eel roll was....passable? But not tasty.
They were nice, but that is the good part. The meal was way too overpriced for the quality and the quality really makes me wonder about their food safety practices. Everything tastes like it was either going bad or already bad. Don't bother. Praying we don't get sick...
I feel like i have to give 1 star to balance out all the positive reviews. I checked Yelp and average is 2.5 which is more accurate. Very very bland sushi, not good at all. Even for Nashville which certainly isn't known for its sushi, this place was very underwhelming, boring, and did not taste fresh. I would avoid this place completely.
Love love love this place! We get dinner here at least once per week. The worst part of 2015 was when they were remodeling and closed down shop for a few months. The owner and his wife are lovely people and always remember our names. It's fresh, delicious, reasonably priced and the best place in town for great sushi! Get the wasabi roll, spicy scallop roll or Phil roll. They won't disappoint.
very good !!
It is the best and freshest sushi around. I have eaten sushi in 5 different countries of the world, and Luke's is the best. You have got to try the "Phil Roll", it's awesome! Everything he makes is homemade right there on premises, even the house salad dressing
Very good
Amazing. Best green tea ice cream in TN. Whrn ever I go through Nashville I stop in and get some. Yummy!
Absolutely loved this place. Moved to Chatf a year and a half ago and there is NOTHING down here that comes close. Fresh, friendly, authentic and utterly delicious sushi.
