If you don't like beef broth, then they perhaps prepare differently. To me, the broth was the best in this area, although i cannot tell you about authenticity. There was a plate of three sauces, with the traditional basil and the bean sprouts centered on the plate.
We all boxed our leftovers to go. If you want a great lunch at a great price, don't forget this venue on Roan. The Days Inn is attached to the restaurant.

Yesterday there were only two of us at off hours, around 4pm. We had happy hour well drinks, edamame for an appetizer, pad Thai and red curry with beef. All excellent quality and enough for leftovers. Prices are really good too. May was awesome. She is very attentive, courteous and professional. She helped me with my choice of curry with tender beef and agreed that the Pho soup is excellent, some of the best in the area.
We hope to get back really soon and try more menu options. So many great options!!

I visited Rainbow Asian Cuisine on the recommendation of a friend, and I was not disappointed.

We ordered the sesame chicken and the red curry, both with fried rice (all pictured below). The entrées came with ginger salad, which consisted of chill iceburg lettuce with shredded carrot and a light creamy sweet ginger dressing. The dressing was neither as strong nor as bland as some ginger dressings I've had, and the creamy texture and light sweetness came as a pleasant surprise. The salads came out a few minutes before the entrées and served as a refreshing appetizer.

The sesame chicken was mild and savory in flavor with only a light sesame taste in the sauce, but had that wonderful balance of breading, being crispy and hearty but not overly breaded or mushy inside. The chicken itself was tender and juicy. The perfect breading alone makes up for any other shortcomings, in my opinion.

The fried rice we both got for sides was nothing to write home about, for good or ill. It had eggs, clearly once-frozen peas and carrots, small bits of chicken, and a small amount of soy in it. It wasn't too heavy or greasy, which was nice.

The king of the evening was the red curry. The sauce itself was well-spiced though only on the cusp of what I'd consider "medium" in terms of spiciness (about a 4/10, with 5 being equivalent to a good jalapeño with seeds). The flavors were rich and layered, and the texture was smooth and creamy. Perfect for a cold night. The chicken was cut very thinly but was plentiful, as were the vegetables. My inly complaint is that the few pieces of zucchini were overcooked, though the rest of the veggies were perfect.

Final thoughts:
I'm excited to finally have found a good place to get curry in the area, and I fully plan to try all of their curry options, as well as a few of their appetizers next time. I'm also curious to see how their more common takeout dishes (especially General Tso) compare to other restaurants in the area. Lastly, I was impressed with their service. We never wanted for drinks, and when I forgot my hat inside on my way out, the waitress ran out after us to get it to me.

Food had a nice presentation and service was friendly. That is where the magic ends. Curry was very bland and tasteless. Soup, fried rice, egg rolls the same. Looked nice but no taste whatsoever. This is NOT apart of the hotel, authentic food made by an awesome family, we were here last year and it was so good that when we drove thru Johnson City this year we had to stop by.

The best gyoza!

When you walk in and there's a pool table in front and a sign saying see bartender for service, your expectations tend to drop. But I give credit where credit is due. The food was great, it was fast. They have sprouts, which requires all kinds of extra health department requirements. And there's a 100 health inspection score. Really pleasant surprise.

Not sure what was going on, but there seemed to be no hostess or servers. We waited and no one showed up. I peeked into the kitchen and saw only one person. There were no customers either. As we left, we checked the front door for their open hours thinking maybe they were closed, but it showed they were open for four hours already. To us, it looked as if they were closed and just forgot to lock the door. Oh well, ...

We went in after a hard day and it was just what we needed. I had the Crap Rangoon with plum sauce, wonton soup, and lettuce wrap. The food was really good and I’ll go back soon. LETTUCE WRAPS were excellent. Waitress was really sweet and took good care of us.

Very disappointed. We ordered to go, Sesame Chicken, Pepper Steak, House low mein & won ton soup. Took it out of bags, opened the containers and it sure looked delicious....Boy were we wrong. Every entree was bland and lacking flavor. The low mein was somewhat flavorful. We are so disappointed because we were really hoping to find a good Chinese restaurant for dinning & take out. This is definitely crossed off our list and will never return.

Honestly the food was amazing and great server great service shots out the Phil are waiter he made our experience that much better going above and beyond to guarantee our experience to be one to remember. It is also an excellent place to go if you're out and about around midnight hours and did I mention they have enough said right. Hands down the best Asian food in Johnson City with the best presentation I've seen by far of Asian cuisine. I would highly recommend the fried cheesecake with ice cream as well as the dumplings. All in all if you're looking for a good place to go out and eat with the family or date night this is the place you need to be and did I mention there's a hotel connected to it just in case you get sleepy after you eat

I mistakenly thought this place was a buffet, and it is not. The food wasn't bad, service wasn't bad, but I'm partial to the buffet places because I like to try several things instead of just one dish.

First-time ordering from there, we got chicken lo mein. They only have one size, and it's a pretty good portion. We ordered online, and it's great that they are open until 1 am. If I'm not mistaken, they are the only Asian place that opened that late.

They have the best fried rice and I've liked everything else I have tried from there. I don't live in Johnson City anymore and always make it a point to pick up some food from there when I am in town visiting.

Food is excellent with a fair price for the portion size. Server was fantastic, set my drink down empty and with 54 seconds another was at the table. We order 3 appetizers and 2 entrée and all were cooked perfectly and very delicious. I highly recommend the Chicken Satay.

The food is fresh and delicious. They have three Thai chefs. One of the owners learned to cook in her mom's restaurant in downtown Bangkok. The Thai red curry is my favorite. Having read through several of the reviews, I can only assume that most of the particularly negative reviews came from people who have little experience eating authentic Asian food. Too bad for them.

Very unassuming place. Was surprisingly open late night when most restaurants and even some fast food places were closed. Looked more of a bar/pool hall at this time of the night. The food was very good. I had egg rolls and some green curry. Completely caught me by surprise. Thought I was going to be eating to simply get nourishment, but my palate was pleased. Good food!

Pad thai, spicy af. Easy, right? A simple classic that you order just to see if the Thai place can make Thai food. Well, trust me...they can't. Their pad thai really, really, really sucks.

I tried it then threw it straight into the garbage can. I am only writing this review so that you, dear customer, don't waste your money like I did.

The staff were fast and friendly, the atmosphere is comfortable...but the recipes need a 100% rewrite.

Our go to Asian restaurant in Johnson City. We always order to go because it’s easy to order online and it’s ready fast. Their spice levels are spot on. Medium gets your attention and hot is hot. I’ve had several Chinese staples like Kung Pao Chicken and Cashew Chicken and they were delicious. My current favorite is the Singapore Noodles. Just can’t go wrong there. We’ve also had all of their various curry meals and they’re all distinctly different and delicious. Highly recommended!

I'm not going to read the reviews because ya'll make me think the worst every time I read a review lol. Instead, here's my experience! I've ate at rainbow twice. Once was about a year ago and then once tonight. Both times have been a delight! Their sesame chicken, and general so chicken is BANGIN! The rice is good! Their Thai egg rolls, MMMMWAAAAH! Delicious! Their crab ragoon! UGGGGH! Treat yo self! I ordered taro tea from them (boboa.tea but without caffeine) and I'm going to give it a try in a little bit and will post an update! OH! And the Asian-American lady! She's so kind and seems pretty cool! When you walk in your greeted with a gold fish pond and it's just so relaxing. The whole atmosphere is great! The food is great! The staff is awesome! This place gets ten stars out of five! I can't wait to go back! 😊

Being a no weapons establishment makes it a non starter for a lot of people.

They have a bar an karaoke in the back a wonderful way to spend a weekend ❤️❤️

They need to get all new bartenders. None of the drinks tasted good. None of the drinks tasted like the ingredients on the menu. The bartenders actually did not know how to make a couple of their own drinks. They didn’t fill the glasses up, and a couple of the drinks were missing ingredients. You can’t overprice stuff and then not make them right. I would never go there again. I wasted so much money there. Some of the worst drinks I’ve ever had. Stay away from the bar!!!

In town for an event, got home fairly late. But this place was still open. When I walked in I didn't expect a good experience, but the staff was awesome and the food was great.

Love the green curry here! They have a nice hot tea and coffee selection as well. The Chinese black tea is delicious and different from what I've had.

The food was good and the service was good but beware of the drunk customers sitting outside the restaurant who threatened us as we were going in. We addressed this issue with our waiter and she said " oh he is a regular who comes here to drink and not eat. She said that he just had a little too much to drink." Not acceptable at all.

Food was ok but there were sugar ants everywhere and the floor was sticky. Our server Justin was amazing though! He was so attentive and working so hard. Only reason I'd give this place any stars.

We called in an order and picked it up to bring home. It was the worst Asian meal I've had. This was disappointing because we've eaten here several times and enjoyed the food. I had wonton soup. The dumpling was just nasty. The chicken was on its own because the dumpling was slimy. We also had orange chicken. The chicken was so stringy it was nearly impossible to eat. I did call to let them know about the meal, but they didn't call back, so I guess they don't care if it was good or not.

Good food. Service certainly needs improvents.

Don't let this hotel-attached restaurant fool you! My son recommended we eat here a week ago when my wife was out of town. I was so impressed with the friendly service, atmosphere, cleanliness, and fresh variety of Asian cuisine, that I brought my wife here after church. We try to hit different restaurants on Sunday. Justin was very professional and friendly. The Singapore Noodles and Cashew Chicken were fantastic. Rainbow has a nice bar area and as long as people are there, will serve food till 3AM. Nice to know if you want a nice meal late in the evening.

Wonderful experience. Out waiter, Justin, was very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. Portions are huge. You have to try the salad with ginger dressing and the brown rice. It was the most perfectly cooked rice I've ever had anywhere. I will be back for more cashew chicken, too. Delicious!

The food was gross. I ordered the pepper steak with "fried" rice. The peppers were undercooked, and it was all drenched in this nasty sauce. Looked like someone bought a bottle of szcheuan sauce from Walmart and dumped half of it on my plate.

Rainbow Asian cuisine is run by a lovely Thai-American family. One of the owners, Da, is incredibly gracious and willing to make off-order menu items to accommodate my tastes for Thai cuisine that perhaps might not be scalable for a restaurant in this region.

The entire family has created a lovely space, with a dedicated bar and separate dining area that’s warm, clean and comfortable.

Life is about relationships, and it’s always good to have a connection with the people giving us the bread to break and rice to share.

This is the exact type of business I love to support. I’ll be coming back.

Went to dinner on short notice and worked out way through six dishes starting with fried tofu and spring rolls as appetizers and ending with drunken noodles and the tamarind tilapia. Everything was fresh, flavorful and perfect. I could not recommend this restaurant enough.

We have been hunting good Asian food since we moved here. The Rainbow Asian Cuisine is not only good but fantastic and some of the best we've ever had. Our server was great and even brought us tastes of Boba tea. Thank you so much for one the most enjoyable dining experiences we had in a long time.

The staff was very friendly and the food came out fast, however, it was very poor quality. The fried rice isn't fried rice, I ordered general Tso chicken spicy and sesame chicken and they both had the same sauce on it, not spicy at all. There were Itty bitty little pieces of chicken in a very thick heavy batter. The crab Rangoon was way over fried and had a weird watery sauce with it. Very expensive for what it is. Definitely my first and last time eating here

Don't let the location fool you (this restraunt is connected to a Best Western)! This is easily one of the best Asian restraunts around! The Drunken Noodles and Pho soup are the best I've ever had! The fresh spring rolls are amazing! The curries are delicious as well as all the other entries I've tried. Thier dine-in service is wonderful and my experience with take- out has been the same. Give this place to try. It will not disappoint!

Quality of the food is great. My General Tso chicken and my wife's Sesame Chicken tasted almost the same. I would have given 5 stars if the General Tso's was spicier.

Went here today for the first time to celebrate my birthday - The staff was super friendly and sweet. Restaurant was very clean and had a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Everything was delicious and portions were huge! The plating was also very thoughtful and beautiful which meant a lot to me because we did come in to eat at 11pm and some places may not care to make their plating look good that late at night. I will definitely be returning! 😊

We ordered out. We found the food to be fairly bland for what should have some level of spice and taste. My assumption is that Asian food is usually distinguishable by its flavor, that's why we eat it. Not so here. Just moved to the area, I'm hoping we can find better Asian food in the near future.

The food was good for the most part but the service was very poor. The tea was lukewarm and the waiter didn't seem to know much about the food or service in general. The pepper steak was mostly vegetables. I also pointed out that the ceiling tile was in risk of falling on us and he just smirked. There was no salt or pepper at our tables or napkins or napkins. Tons of potential on this restaurant, but it was very sub-par.

The restaurant itself and the service was fine, so I’ll give one star for that. However, the food itself was honestly disgusting. Both mine and my girlfriends plates smelled fishy although we did not order anything with fish. The chicken tasted like it had been cooked in the same pan as a school of fish before it. The only saving grace was the white rice on the side of my order.

Oh my goodness. What excellent customer help, Phil. Not only did you help me navigate the menu; you helped me on the road back to feeling well. I ordered the pad Thai. I wanted it very mild since I had been sick recently. I spoke with Phil 3 times. I don't recall having a better experience with food delivery in my whole life. I must commend the Uber driver for his part. My food arrived steaming!! And everything looks like it did when I last dined inside with my daughter. I love this place. They have always been so kind. I think Rainbow is the best Asian cuisine around. Can't wait to dine in again!! Phil, you are the absolute epitome of being kind while working really hard. I know how it can be. Thanks for providing a healthy and veggie based option. Love to all of you at Rainbow Asain Cuisine. Lifesavers!!

Ordered take out. Food was extremely bland. Missing ingredients. Very rude establishment and workers. Would NOT recommend. Plenty other places to get great food in the area. This place is NOT it.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to this amazing restaurant. The food and staff were excellent. I loved the Pad Thai. My group tried several appetizers. All were equally delicious, especially the Chicken Satay and the Spring Rolls. Everything tasted so fresh. The Pomegranate Martini really topped it off! I will definitely be back soon.

Our new favorite pho place. When we travel, we try a restaurant that serves Pho in the city that we are in. We will be back here again since we are here for the Repticon Show through the weekend, and whenever we come back into town again.

Food had a nice presentation and service was friendly. That is where the magic ends. Curry was very bland and tasteless. Soup, fried rice, egg rolls the same. Looked nice but no taste whatsoever. We even ordered super spicy Thai. So disappointed. Even the cocktails were bad. I cannot recommend this.

Surprisingly delicious! Big portions too! We were a little worried because the place was empty but the food is amazing! Great service too!

This is a hidden gem! We had driven past often, not knowing how good the food is. Fresh flavors, generous portions, and a good price make them a great find for lunch or dinner!

Just ate there on June6. Disgusting and filthy food and place(there was hair and rice on my chair), there was this big nasty looking critter in my food (Thai curry). Looks like it is a normal occurrence there the way the attitude of the server and owner was. This needs to be taken seriously especially these days.

The food was hot and delicious and the service was good, I recommend it.

Super cool environment, just went for drinks and late night snacks but the people were cool and the music was too!

First time eating at Rainbow Asian Cuisine!

Called in before hand to order, took about 15-20 minutes before ready. I got General Tso’s chicken, a side of lo maen noodles & rice! first off the noodles were a bit bland by themself but the chicken was AMAZING, if you’re not into chicken with fat this is the perfect place for you! the flavors were amazing. I highly recommend to anyone who loves Asian food!

Excellent variety, very clean, good service and portions. I loved the Pho. Sometimes they have a soup not on the menu Khao Tom (I think that’s right) soup-very, very good. They also have a gluten free menu.

Worst restaurant I've been to since being in JC. For whatever reason, in a restaurant half full of people, I get served my food last (even after people that came in 20 minutes after my friend and myself). My food was cold when I got it so obviously it had been sitting out for a while.

Went for karaoke on 4/9/21.
The bar is way too small for karaoke! It was too loud, one of the bartenders named Beth was the worst bartender I've ever had. The other was great I want to add. I asked Beth for 2 more beers, I go up put in a song to sing and come back and she has the bill. It took the other bartender about 5 minutes to fix it and then later I get called up to sing and my girlfriend goes up to dance and when we come back to the bar to sit down Beth has poured our beers out! Says "I thought you left". Um, I was up singing! So she goes to pour us two more beers and starts pouring the wrong beers! I'm trying to get her attention to keep her from pouring 2 wrong beers but it's so loud that I wind up having to yell to get her to turn around and she gets mad, pours a partial beer, comes and slams it on the bar.
I won't be back!

This was the weirdest version of Asian food I've had. I understand why the reviews are 4/5 or 1s. You're either going to love it or hate it. If you like asian food, you probably won't like it.
