Traditional & contemporary Thai dishes like curries in a stylish small-chain outpost.
This is not your typical Thai restaurant! Upscale, great atmosphere and wonderful service. The happy hour is our favorite in Mt Pleasant and sitting on the back deck during sunset is such a lovely experience. Have not had a bad bite here, but our favorite fish is the pad see ew with beef. Thank you Basil for being our go-to Friday date night spot!
Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Our reservation was confirmed promptly, and the staff inquired about our preferences for indoor or outdoor seating and any special occasions.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the hostess and promptly seated. The venue is very spacious with a beautiful view over the lake, adding to the ambiance. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes, all of which were served and cleared in a timely manner.
Our custom cake was stored in the refrigerator and later sliced and served perfectly. The food was delicious and the service professional. Highly recommend this place for any occasion!
I have been to Basil back in the day when they were in downtown Charleston, now they move to Mt. Pleasant with better space, view, and bar upstairs. The food we order was all amazing and scrumptious. Open the kitchen so you can see how food has been cooked. And wine and cocktails were superb as well. Highly recommend!
Update: We have been back a couple times and enjoyed every visit. This is easily our new go to for Asian cuisine. Tonight we had sweet and sour with tofu. Unfortunately didn't get a photo of the appetizer but they were great as well.
Came for restaurant week and was very impressed! Interesting cocktails and the food was amazing. Don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu!
If you are used to paying NY prices (ie. not much) for excellent Thai food, you are going to have an unhappy surprise when you go to Basil. It is really expensive, but it's also excellent. So, if you can get over shelling out about double what you are used to, go. Food is delicious and authentic, the ambiance is nice and the service is good. It's also family friendly.
Food highlights include the masaman curry, the green curry, the tom kha soup, and the fried dumplings.
They also have a lot of specialty cocktails and plenty to choose from in the wine and beer department. Parking isn't bad - getting in is challenging. We highly recommend reservations, even on a weeknight!
Service was great!!!
I didn’t catch our waiters name but he was a sweet young man.
The food was good and hot. The green tea fried ice cream was magnificent!!
Only “issue” that I had was my drink being a little strong. But our waiter was able to get me some simple syrup to sweeten it up.
Other than that, the atmosphere, food and service was great.
Be aware of what your take out order consists of, I’ve been handed the wrong order more than once, double check the contents, and make sure it’s correct.
Pad sui is AMAZING
Love their pad thai - hot (great if you like spicy food).
The best Thai food in Mount Pleasant. Real Thai flavors. Quality. Delicious.

Excellent as always! It has to be the best in the chain. I get pad Thai - never had better. My husband and aunt always get the barramundi and they rave about it.
Mount Pleasant SC location is excellent. Cool atmosphere, and you will not find better Thai food. Reasonable pricing and superb staff.
Thank you!
Food is awesome, always a great dinner. Highly recommend 👌
The best place to go in Mount pleasant
Great as always. It sets the standard for all other Thai restaurants I try..
Yum. Luv it. Service is awesome upstairs where I eat. Food is fresh and I love me some spice🥵
Server didn’t ask what heat level we wanted our food so the spicy pad Thai came out sweet tasting with no spicy thai flavor. Disappointing first experience because of the servers mistake, not sure if we’d be back but may give it another go. Have had better Thai food from the local take out places.
Wife's Duck was wonderful. Pad tai disappointing. One drink okay One drink undrinkable.
The Basil duck was awesome
The Pai Thi was not, the chicken was terribly dry
The Basil rolls were gummy
We will never eat at the bar again. The tequila sunrise was not even drinkable at all. Took forever to checkout. We really miss your King St location, we will someday try Park Circle location
Sat in the upper bar area. Service was friendly, food was fantastic. Would recommend the pad Thai and spring rolls.
Where locals and vacationers go for a great Thai meal

Have been going here for years never disappoints and the atmosphere is great.
Great food
Shrimp Pad Thai had a weird taste of tomato paste , noodles were saggy. We were not impressed.
5 stars is an understatement for the kind of customer service you get here! Beautiful restaurant, great food and absolutely amazing staff!
Really enjoyed our meal here. Atmosphere, food and service were all excellent. Had a table by the window overlooking a small pond. They appeared to have outdoor seating in warmer weather. Menu was clearly labeled with gluten free options which included several appetizers and decent number of entrees. They did a great job accommodating my celiac disease. My husband and I tried the pad thai that came with chicken and shrimp and massaman beef curry. Both were excellent!
Coconut soup is a must, chicken satay is also a top appetizer.
Duck is awesome and basil barramundi fish is awesome

-Food is ok , chicken soup coconut is good but fried fish in not, fish not fresh , tast like about to spoil and vocanol shrimp is too sweet., on menu is call gian shrimp haha but reality it small like pinky finger hâhha
- Stuff isí freindly , good take care.
-Atmosphere and environment around look so good, has the bond in the back you can see, have table outside tou can sit and onjoy food for summer, litttle park for you take a picture any even!
Outstanding food
This is Americanized Thai food. It is nothing remotely like true Thai cuisine. Their "spicy" listed items equates or an overuse of basil herbs. Yes, Thai food uses basil but uses a specific variety of basil and uses other seasoning and spices.
If you're a foodie, you're better off skipping this place. If you're hungry and in the area, it'll do. But don't expect to be wowed by the selection or platings.
The atmosphere is pretentions and tries to be a chic hipster joint and matches the Mt. Pleasant vibe.
Will not be back. There's so many moderately better places around. Unfortunately, Charleston as a whole has some lackluster food locations in general.
Food was good but fish dish bland needed a zip to it otherwise all appt. and salad delish Servers excellent made the experience of first time there great
No delivery to Mt pleasant on Uber eats or any app
Great Happy Hour and appetizer pricing. Food is delicious and great ambiance.
Food was outstanding. The service was excellent.
Makes me wish I were Thai. Simply amazing.
Delish but the old downtown spot set a high bar in my opinion
Excellent like always
We ordered carryout. I had a satay, soup and beef salad. I was terribly sick after eating the food. Full purge. I called the manager to inform them so that perhaps they could have a look and prevent it from happening to someone else. He proceeded to tell me all the reasons why it could not have possibly been their responsibility. Not one bit of empathy.
Always great service and the food is awesome!
Good food, nice atmosphere, good service.

We went late after a graduation. 8:20pm . Got right in ordered & got served.
Everything was so good!!
Great place to eat
The best Thai food in the state! Need I say more?
Always looking for a good Thai restaurant, I dined here during a recent business trip. I have nothing materially negative to say about my experience, then I have nothing significantly positive to note either. For the money, I have eaten better Thai cuisine with a more robust menu. Nice location and aesthetic with average Thai food of the restaurant chain variety.
Always great food. Love the ambiance of their Mt P location.
Basil always knock it out of the park. Our server, Nathan, was incredible. He was one of those perfect servers where he’s there when you need him and not there when you don’t. Slam dunk!

Some of the best Thai I have had, been to Thailand many times and this rates right up with the food from there. I waitress Sarah was the greatest. I highly recomend Basil.
Very good food
I love this place!
Basil Mt. PLEASANT is one of my favorite Thai restaurants 😋 The food, which is so delicious, to the service, and Mgr. Mickey are all so AMAZING!!! If you're looking for a great place, friendly atmosphere, and incredible dishes then I would sincerely recommend Basil for your next outing!
Basil has excellent Thai food, everything we ordered was delicious. Service was great.
Hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in the Mt Pleasant are so far. The Pad Thai is delicious and every dish I’ve had is incredible for the value.
Great ambiance, great service, great food.
Such a wonderful dining experience
The food was amazing
Will definitely return
Thank you so so much
It’s amazing every single time. The appetizers, soups, entrees… total perfection. Fresh ingredients, so many healthy options to choose from, and amazing service from the staff. I love that they also provide a coat rack for you by the host stand (it’s the little things.) One of the best restaurants in Charleston for dinner.
Mt.Pleasants best!!!!!
Actually really good Thai for a chain. Well balanced flavors and great views. Highly recommended
We picked up from Basil while staying in Isle of Palms. The food was delicious though not as spicy as I like my Thai food (but my in-laws were happy with the spice level, so that was really all that mattered). Like the saying goes- Happy in-laws, happy vacation! So if you like heat- ask them to dial it up.
We had the spring rolls, vegetables green curry (for the vegan), drunken noodles (pad kee mow), pad prik, vegetables delight (also for the vegan).
Everything was delicious.
When I picked up the food, the place was packed and looked very nice. I will definitely dine in here next time I'm in IOP (and ask for everything very spicy).
great food, service and atmosphere
Always a favorite and never disappoints! I would order from Basil almost on a weekly basis when I lived in town. So much flavor!
My absolute favorite place to eat. Sure wish they were open again for lunch.
Serves was off, and it is a bit pricey.
The great ambiance and the food is delicious.
Terrible service. I gave the tip to the "water girl" because she did far more than my waitress.
Upscale Thai restaurant. Our dishes were tasty and the portions were good. My wife had the massaman curry, it was delicious.
Enjoyable Thai dinner. The restaurant has a very nice, comfortable atmosphere. The staff was attentive and the food was out quickly.
Delicious food, good service, worth trying
I’ve been searching for good Thai food in Charleston for awhile and several people recommended Basil. Today I finally caved and agreed to pay 20+ bucks per entree to finally snag some great Thai food… Was not worth it. I’m not sure if they have just over expanded with spots across South and North Carolina, but good cooking seems to have been lost along the way.
The place is beautiful, but the entrees were bland or were just bad. Fresh rolls were generic and small. Som tum was ok. The basil entry was just over cooked meat and my wife decided to leave the red curry and pick up something elsewhere.
And man, they messed up the rice… really?
Hands down the best thai food in Charleston! Our server Julian was committed to great service and was very accomodating. We had a big crowd,he managed to get food on time. Much recommended if you are around Charleston area!
Delicious Thai food and great service. Drinks were a plus as well!
Great food
The food and service was amazing! So tasty. We sat outside and there were some annoying flies but there was this hilarious little lizard that sat in our flowers and ate probably 8 flies. Super entertaining and very helpful, it had quite the personality! Should be on staff really.
Food and service were excellent!!!
went for some appetizers
Have always been a big fan. Ate at Basil last night and it was terrible. First; our food was obviously ore-prepared, it was brought to our table less than 5 min after we ordered. My wife ordered sweet and sour pork, which was cold, tough and tasted like chicken. The restaurant is falling apart. The original location downtown has closed and we will NEVER eat at Basil again. It has gone from one of our favorites to worst in a 3 years.
Very good food and very good service.
Hands down the best Thai food in Charleston. Their chicken coconut soup is fantastic. Also, you just gotta go with the pad thai. I’ve tried a lot of things on the menu, but just find myself going back to the pad thai.
We have been supporting this business for years. Sat outside on the patio with my 20 lb dog today. Manager came up and told us “dogs are not allow”, even outside. All other Charleston restaurants are happy to allow dogs outside. Will not be returning to basil.
I love this place - the food is amazing - the staff and owner care about your experience and the food - the atmospere is perfect - the specialty cocktails are perfect for the experience. If you are in the area, this is a MUST!
Great fried wonton and pad thai and loved the mango martini
Great recommendations and service by Daniel. Delicious food. Coconut Soup was the best.
LOVE IT!!! ATE ALL THE APPS
Amazing food and wonderful atmosphere.
👍
Great food and service.
A wonderful atmosphere and great food! Love that the kitchen can look out into the restaurant and vice versa.
So good. Love their food.
Excellent service. Very delicious food. I had the duck fried rice which is very hard to find. I'm just visiting relatives but if I lived here I would be eating here frequently.
This is one of my very favorite restaurants in Mt. Pleasant! I love sitting outside on the upstairs patio for happy hour drink and appetizer specials. The Basil Spring Rolls are an absolute must, while the Basil Cocktail is very refreshing. For entrees, I swear by the Basil Chicken with white rice or Pad See Eu. Both are consistently amazing and I've always had great service. I don't think I've ever been able to finish a whole meal here, so plan on enjoying it again the next day! Though it'd be pricey to eat at Basil all the time (I generally save it for birthday dinners, out of town guests, etc), the food is so worth it!
Upstairs bar area is cool
I really enjoy Basil's for a quick bite try a little bit of everything your taste buds are bound to savor something ,,also the servers are super friendly and very efficient a fun place
This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. After my experience today I will NEVER return. When we arrived for our reservation for 5 people, we were sat at a table made for 4. A chair was put in a busy walkway and we did not fit comfortably. When we asked for a table that we could all fit at the hostess rudely said no. We asked one more person about a table for 5 and were told “we don’t have any tables available for 5.” I’m still trying to understand taking a reservation for 5 and then telling us there are no tables that can accommodate 5 people?
The Tom Kha Gai soup was amazing with a great presentation. The fried bananas dessert was also fantastic.
We went here for my friends birthday and had made reservations for a table of five when we arrived not only did we have to wait, we were sat at a four top. The fifth chair was added in the middle of a busy aisle. If we made reservations for five why sit us at a four top? I’m a long time customer at this restaurant but they just lost me as a customer tonight. Ruined our night.
Food was great and service was amazing. Had a wonderful time with family.
love the food here, very expensive
I don’t normally leave reviews but feel very inclined to do so considering we have been struggling to find great Asian food since moving to the area. This is now my go to for great Thai food!!! It was delicious. I only have it 4 stars because it was pricier then expected but worth every bite! I highly recommend.
Beautiful restaurant inside.
Wait staff fiddled and fingered their mask the entire time. Isn't it time that is over?
Food was not very good. I ate because I had waited an hour to get a table.
I would recommend you go somewhere else if you really like Thai food.
Great food, enjoyed it very much!! Waiter was awesome.
Definitely unique, but relies more on spicy hot food rather than balancing seasoning, hers and melding flavors.
Great atmosphere, delicious food and the fried banana is bomb! My only complaint is they stopped doing happy hour.
This is just amazing Thai food in a really nice place. Got right in at about 8 pm. Good people. Excellent food. I had the Barramundi with curry sauce. Spicing was wonderful.
delicious!!!!
Other than the longer than expected wait, the food was great. We'd definitely return for another date night. Hopefully we can get quicker service and the same or better food experience. This is for the Basil in Mt. P. We did get take-out the next day at the one in N.Chuck, since we really enjoyed the food.
Little over price but the food was great.
The cocoanut soup is amazing. I had the pad Thai and my friend had the red curry with tofu. We loved it. We sat outside by the fountain and enjoyed a lovely evening.
I love this place. I think the food is great. Everyone that I talk to never wants to come here but oh well.
told me they aren’t taking to go orders for an hour. jasmine thai would never do me like this smh. not coming back
Very good pleasant and knowledgeable waitress. My dish was excellent.
Spring Rolls are our favorite!
Love this place. It is soo good. The food tastes fresh and flavorful. Nice decor and atmosphere. Love love love.
Best Thai food on the east coast! Sounds dramatic but the only place to rival it is in Brooklyn..... the food is unbelievable! The wait staff are always pleasant and accommodating! We land in CHS and go right to Basil!!!
Great food and service.
Good, reliable, covid friendly. Excellent mattress, it's important to me.
I was so excited to try this place! Beautiful location, wonderful atmosphere, however the staff was just not having a good day. First, they brought out our food and gave it to different people on accident, it happens, that’s okay. Next, however, they remade our food and there was a fly (insect) in mine- the waitress apologized and took it back and I told her I did not want it remade. She said it’ll be remade anyways and I still had to pay for the to-go remade food that I asked not to have. Unfortunately, we’ll never be back.
Our food was delivered to someone else one table over. After it was remade and brought to us, it had a bug in it. After they went to remake it, my fiance said she doesn't want to eat anymore, but they told her that they are already remaking it and ended up charging us for it. But at least the view was nice.
Amazing food. Service was awesome.
Best Thai ever. Period.
Very disappointed. I really wanted to like this place. Thai food is one of my favorite styles of food. I like trying Thai restaurants when I go on vacation. That said, the atmosphere was nice and the staff was courteous. However, the portion sizes were underwhelming and the Pad Thai tasted like it came out of a can. This was most likely the worst $80 I ever spent.
Friendly staff and great food
Great menu and drinks, beautiful outdoor seating area
Chicken Red Curry Thai Hot!!
Great service. Food was good but not as good as other Thai restaurants.
Perfect for vegan choices...cuisine bursting flavour!
The Pad Thai is scrumpdeliumtious!
my server (she was blonde) was absolutely EXCELLENT!! The food is great and service is amazing
Great atmosphere, location, service and food! What more could you ask for? Highly recommended for Thai/Asian cuisine.
Awesome as always!
Delicious cashew nut shrimp and warm staff.
