Quiet corner destination for Thai noodles, soups & rolls served in a colorful, plant-filled space.
Wow! You must eat here. This is my first time in this neighborhood as I am pet sitting, and I’m glad I came early in my stay so I have plenty of time to come back multiple times. The food was outstanding. Fresh and flavorful, and hot food with great service. Can’t recommend it enough!!!
Fantastic restaurant with a tremendous staff! Started off with the Tom Yun Gai soup, was perfect in terms of spice. Our waiter (Howie) heard us discussing and added spices on his own. Ordered the unique Mango rolls and we were delighted with the taste sensations and the creativity involved. We went ‘boring’ with main course and ordered the sweet and sour chicken. To our surprise, it too was amazing. A wonderful blend of super fresh veggies and a great sauce.
We will definitely be back to further explore the expansive menu.
Small corner restaurant that I happened to stumble upon, and I'm glad I did. The restaurant was very empty, only two tables were occupied including myself. Tom Yum soup with shrimp was great, followed by the papaya salad and red curry with chicken. 👌👌 I like ordering my food spicy and this place was great on the spice level, I was sweating like crazy and probably drank a gallon of water here, but it was well worth it. Definitely recommended!
We were six people without many others dining at the same time. I thought it was a little slow from a service standpoint but the food was very good and I always look forward to going there!
amazing place surprised i never saw it before! i tried their curry and it was everything i was hoping it would be. definitely will be coming back regularly
Best Pho Broth I have ever had at a restaurant! So delicious. Exceptionally balanced. Will definitely be back!
We are visiting from AZ and Thai food is what we like so we went in the hunt...Amazing food. We ordered Thai beef salad, panang curry and pad Thai and all were amazing. I'm from Thailand so I'm very picky. 100% recommend.

Always friendly service, nice portions and very delicious food. Affordably priced. I highly recommend eating here!
Best Pho Broth I have ever had at a restaurant! So delicious. Exceptionally balanced. Will definitely be back!
Best Thai I’ve ever had. Very sad I don’t live here or I’d be there everyday. Service is spectacular and extremely welcoming.
Best Thai food in Providence, really good service and the duck was so tasty. I really love this place.
Howie will treat you right. A staple of Smith St, with great vegetarian options.
The food is always fresh and great! Love the Thai Ice Coffee! No AC, so be prepared on hot days.
Super friendly and very good Thai! Kitchen served our party of five 7 dishes super quickly and all yummy.
Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. Sticky rice is perfect but unfortunately they wrap it in plastic bags, not cool. I like the food they offer but they really shouldn't wrap food in plastic.
Hated the food , I’d order just never get what I paid 80$ worth of food for. I LOVE crabrangoons but this place destroyed them for me , added too much pepper and practically a whole onion and celery?? Idk how that is considered a Thai Rangoon but it’s a definite no for me . Love cocoon shrimp was t clear that if you get friend coconut shrimp it’s in the batter and not the creamy coconut sauce that’s usually on them . Even thought the menu states it has coconut sauce. Beef lo mein was dry and chewy like. It was just god awful. If anyone considers it border make sure u are aware of what they do the some of their foods and it’s not Thai just abnormal and not necessary with too an overload of ingredients especially onions !!!
I am highly disappointed to say the least. The fact that I even have to write this sucks, I was really hoping to enjoy the food but it was a miss. The chicken was hard for the teryaki bowl and they used the same chicken for their gereral chicken only they coated it to fry which not crispy at all and soggy/wet. The rice wasnt mixed together the crab rangoons were the worst Ive EVER had. Overall the worst choice I made all yr. 60 bucks down the drain :'(
I wanted to enjoy this restaurant so bad after reading the story of how it started and checking out the reviews but I was extremely disappointed by the take out "crispy" sesame chicken I ordered during my lunch break from work nearby. It's a small portion, highly broccoli dominant ( I had no idea there was broccoli in the 13.95 appetizer as there's neither picture nor description on the site), and wasn't crispy or flavorful. My chicken was very soggy and I picked it up about 12 minutes after I ordered. That was unexpected as the menuify website (which I paid an extra 1.50 for using to order takeout) claimed my meal would be ready 30-45 minutes later. Delighted at the speed, I was shocked when I found my chicken was completely wet. Tasted kind of sour and bland as well. If I had picked it up later, it could have been even worse as it was sitting on the counter when I walked in.
Nice people. Good crab rangoon (I'd rate it 3/5 taste) at $6 for 6 Rangoon, but bad sesame chicken. I wouldn't order it again and I wouldn't order from this restaurant again. Highly disappointing main :(
Thai star is super good! Always has been!
great food & service
I’ve ordered for Thai Star a few times and the food has always been very good. However, last night we placed an order on Grubhub and it said they were open, it didn’t even say closing soon. First our order was delayed, which is understandable on a Saturday night. But then we got a call from an unknown party yelling that another driver was coming. Later we got an alert it was delivered, but it never was. We checked everywhere (even our neighbors) and it was nowhere. The restaurant was closed at this point too so we couldn’t even verify if it was the driver who messed up or if they just ended up not making our food and tried passing it off as delivered. Either way we ended up with no food at a later hour which limited what we could even get at that point. I know mistakes happen but the communication here could use a lot of improvement.
We picked this star on a whim, it was close by. The food was amazing, and our server was wonderful. We will definitely be back.
Great Food great service..just parking can be difficult.
Nice guy fried ice cream was amazing!!!
Food was delicious!
Thank you.
Howie brought us the good Thai food and we brought him the good news about Jesus! The Tom Yam soup 🍲 was amazing and the Thai Star house chicken wings 🍗 were on point! 5 ⭐️‘S!
The hostess is very nice and welcoming. Boba was great and so were the drunken noodles. Ordered for takeout and they had it ready within 10 minutes. Thank you☺️
This is the best Thai food we have had here so far! We ordered the mango fresh rolls with peanut sauce and highly recommend. The mango added the perfect amount of sweetness. We also ordered the yellow curry, panang curry, and steamed brown rice to pair (comes with white rice). The portion sizes were great and the food was delicious. We’ll definitely be back!
If you desire an authentic taste of thai that is prepared FRESH to order. Go no further..
The authenticity of Thai shines through on the pallet..
FRESH products and staff that actually care equals a fantastic restaurant. This tiny place on Chalkstone Ave should be a staple for all. Freshest ingredients cooked with passion is all we deserve and here it is.. THAI STAR is a MUST!!!
Churry chicken very yummy.
I stopped in for takeout Tom Yum soup and steamed dumplings an evening last week and met Tommie. Pleasant man, hospitable, answered my questions about Thai Royalty since the restaurant is adorned with these portraits. I returned for Lunch with my son and Dr. Paul. Mani our waitress was very welcoming explaining the various dishes. We had tasty house wings for an appetizer. Tom Yum made it to the table and looked delicious. My son had Hawaiian Chicke, a smokey tender lightly breaded chicken dish with peppers, onions, pineapple served with white rice. I went with Gao Lao soup, beef broth with celery, sprouts, pork and a little spicy. 😋 We had a great time conversing with our waitress about Thailand and traveling. Great food that is very aeromatic and beneficial especially in this season. Will return soon hopefully.
Had the chicken dumpling soup, which had excellent broth. I also had the spicy basil sauce (with pork) also very tasty! The staff was beyond friendly. Our food was out to us within 5 minutes! Will definitely return there again, excited to try some other delicious sounding things. 😋
Very friendly & welcoming staff. Food was pretty good though salty. portion sizes were good. Highly recommend the shrimp Rangoon.
Hidden gem! We enjoyed dinner here. The fried ice cream is bomb
Poor service and management. The food was mediocre. The front desk waitress was impatient right from the time we entered the restaurant at 8:30pm asking us to place order soon and leave when the restaurant's closing time was 10pm.
The food here was absolutely wonderful. The duck was delicious! The staff working there was so friendly and gave amazing service. Would definitely recommend this place!
Best Thai restaurant in RI. Hands down.
Such amazing service, delicious food!! Great place to get a few large dishes to split with friends. Definitely going back!!
Usually this establishment has never disappointed me, and I have been a very loyal customer. But today I was very unsatisfied with my order because my order was done incorrectly. My order of seafood magnes was missing a variety of ingredients such as scallops, and there was a very poor amount of fish for the price that I paid. Usually when I buy this dish I receive a good amount of fish, and scallops are in my order. The establishment added far too many imitation crab meat. It is the little things that matter in a dish and I feel as today the restaurant failed to meet my expectations.
Love it here.
It was okay at best.
Great food & great service too, Service was warm and welcoming and my curry was delicious. Rounded my evening off with fried ice cream- a must try!
Amazingly fresh authentic food with very warm and welcoming service! I'll definitely be back, totally worth the hour drive!
Such a great place to eat. The food was amazing and the woman who served us was very sweet. Definitely will be coming back!
This place has my heart! When I lived right down the street from this restaurant, my friend and I would go all the time. The food is delicious and if you dine in, they make you feel special. I love most of the food but the Thai Salad is always my appetizer.
Fantastic!!! The food was delicious lots of options for vegetarians folks...Highly recommend ...will be back again...
I ordered dumplings and got Shu Mai.
Walked in to a very welcoming staff, with a clean and bright atmosphere. We ordered the mango and avocado rolls, which were delightfully light and fresh. We also tried the pan fried noodles, shrimp pad Thai and tofu himmapha. The menu is enormous and we had a hard time choosing, but everything we ordered was delicious. The chef makes each meal to order and they had no problem accommodating my daughter's allergy. We ended the meal with Thai ginger tea and a refreshing coconut juice, which I could have easily downed 3 glasses of because it was so delicious! This place is awesome, clean, fresh, inviting, and has something for everyone on the menu. I highly recommend Thai Star!
The food was fantastic!!!!!!!
Fantastic food, friendly staff, and all-around great service. A true local gem.
I love dumplings!!!
Had great food not sure what happened but went down hill fast for some reason idk if it's the cook or what but last time I ate from there i got very sick and this is the first time I got sick but I do love eating there and I hope the next time I eat there I dont get sick. But I do enjoy your food thank Misty
Absolutely incredible. The old reviews that have low ratings must have been with different owners or totally different staff, because this place is amazing and the bad reviews don't sound like this place at all. Heaven for spicy lovers but they will adjust the spicy level for you.
Food is excellent. Nice and spicy and always well prepared
Excellent!!! Food
A woman gotta eat! I love it here! I try stuff... and it is great.
My favorite restaurant! The bangkok fried rice will change your life!
I was very astonished at this place, the food is very fresh and delicious, and the waiter is kind enough to help you choose if you don't know the food, I loved it.
I was looking for a last minute pad thai meal and came across this place online. The ratings are true. The food was amazing and the place is small with pretty portraits of the king and queen. It brings Thailand to you. Highly recommended for a nice, quiet date night.
I cant say enough good things about this place, you have to try the food for yourself!!
Best Thai restaurant in RI. Very sweet service, and amazing food.
Great service. Super friendly people and tasty too
The Beef Lawb is the best thing here!
Great hole in the wall
The food was really yummy, I picked up and the staff could not be friendlier!
Great food
I just moved to Rhode Island and this is the first place I decided to try being it was in walking distance. The people were nice and the portion sizes were great; however, the food was not up to par. I got the coconut shrimp and Pad Thai! While the food was eatable and okay I wouldn’t order again
Great service, food is amazing. If u like spicy this is ur joint.
I love Thai. The best I've had since I moved here from Denver. Thanks everyone.
Been eating here for over 20 years and it's been outstanding each and every time!
I loved the Chicken Basil and the customer service was outstanding 😊.
Alumni of the International School of Bangkok (ISB) enjoying authentic Thai Food in Providence RI. If your wanting Authentic then you need to go here.
We had Tom yum, kad pow chicken, yellow curry and delicacy duck. Thai ice tea tasted weird and owner exchanged them for new ones. The owner also exchanged new ice tea for other customers who didn't complain.
Great crab Rangoon. Kad paw neur is a favorite of mine.
Love fried ice cream
Been going there for years, will make accommodation for food allergies.
Good food as always
Very nice restaurant... I eat very well. Great food
The decor was clean and super friendly service. We ate a chicken wing appetizer and tom yum soup and dinner was a spicy duck dish and a dish medley of grilled chicken beef and pork.
Everything was delicious, the place is a welcome surprise for the area. 10/10 we will absolutely be back.
Pricey but worth the money.
Food was real good actually. I had their papya salad and pad thai. I would go back and recommend this place.
Delicious !!!
Love thai food , delicious food nice quiet spot

We will definitely be back to further explore the expansive menu.
We had the massaman curry (one of my favs) &it was perfect. We also ordered panang curry &it was also perfect. Their thai iced tea is fabulous. I am an egg roll snob& I wasn't overly impressed with theirs. They were just ok. I will go back for sure.
Great Thai food
Bad service.......I ordered chicken pad Thai and the chicken was over a day old recooked and had the texture of rubber ......I used to go here all the time but haven't been in a while and the quality has taken a massive nose dive ......and for 2 orders of pad Thai and a chicken wing it was 34$$.......WAY OVER PRICED...LAST TIME HERE FOR GOOD
Had a amazing dinner here tonight. I had the Chiang mai noodles, which was delicious and finished with the mango sticky rice. This was my first time having mango sticky rice and it was sooo good. The women who served me was super nice i believe her name was jan or yan (please excuse me if thats wrong). I spoke to her about moving to Thailand. She was super nice and helpful. Thank you again for a pleasant evening. I'll be back soon :)
My mom ordered from herr
Good. Food
I love there chicken fried rice and the white rose as a drink
Great food. Had a late lunch Saturday. First time there, very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Hot basil with seafood was excellent as was my wife's chicken and cashew nut dish. Small store front, family owned. Learned they have been there 20 yrs. A little gem.

great thai restaurant! coconut chicken soup is fantastic. nice people. good service. quick. clean and nice place for a meeting or lunch or dinner, family or date night.
Excellent lunch spot. Best spring roll I've ever had . Pork soup hit the spot. Try them!
The meal is always perfect. The staff is very attentive and warm and friendly. It's just a great place to get an excellent Thai meal
Great garlic snow pea dish with the new dumpling soup some shrimp rangoons and.... I think I've died and gone to heaven!!
Small, tasty, friendly, neighborhood joint.
I called and ordered a few entrees and i asked for fried rice and the gentleman on the phone was so rude and told me they dont make fried rice for one order, they have to have a big batch. He told me it doesn't make sense to make fried rice just for my order. Seriously? Why is fried rice even on the menu?
Everything I have had is amazing very friendly staff, cozy atmosphere
The food is fine, not bad. The service needs to improve. Price is also a little steep.
Keep your receipts they might be adding more to the tip section without permission
Great authentic Thai food. Friendly service. Try the Tom Yum soup. It's out of this world. Leave room for the fried ice cream dessert!
Their Pad Thai is fresh and nicely prepared...the spring rolls are delicious and put together as ordered...love the massaman curry it's excellent...the place is small and doesn't look like much on the outside (talking about the Chalkstone location, they have two)...and there's always reliably fast service regardless of the crowd.
Hands down the best Thai food I've had in the US so far. Authentic and well balanced flavors. Fresh ingredients. It's one of the few restaurants I go to that I try something different each time...cuz you can't go wrong.
Absolutely delicious
Classic institution on Smith Hill. Tommy is the greatest host that ever lived. Delicious real Thai food. Good prices.
Ja is a super server who is not only efficient but also very amiable 🌸 The food is delicious and uncomplicated. The ambiance is down to earth and could be a cleaner.
Thanks.
Horrible horrible experience!! The waitress had a bad attitude there food was nasty!! And she gave us warm water. I do not recommend this place I honestly don’t know why they are still open. And yes it’s such a lonely atmosphere you don’t even feel welcomed there.
Some of the best Thai food you will ever have in RI. Why this place isn't packed every night is beyond me. Try the appetizers - they are all good. The menu is extensive and food is fresh and delicious. They will gladly accommodate the desired level of heat food preference (e.g. red peppers instead of green). I love the Himmapha tofu (I keep telling myself that I have to order something else but Thai Star is the only restaurant I've found in RI that makes it). No liquor license, not sure what their BYOB policy is. The Thai tea is delicious. Order appetizers, linger over dinner and possibly dessert, then box up the leftovers for a treat the next day (or later on that night if the leftovers start calling your name).
Thai Star is a pleasant and convenient restaurant for me. The service is good and the food is well prepared but mediocre in my experience of Thai food. Other restaurants I have enjoyed have a *star system* of rating heat. One star being very mild, two stars being slightly spicy, 3 stores being spicy, etc. There are stars noted on the menu for various dishes but my order of Phad Kee Mao was very moderate with a 2 star rating. I am not comfortable I can get the level of spice that I enjoy and that sets Thai cuisine apart from other Asian foods.
Best pad thai around!
The food is amazing.
Their food, service and atmosphere were all ideal!
It's a nice quite restaurant with a comfortable yet classic feel.
The menu covers all aspects of typical Thai cuisine and can be modified to fit the customers desires, as far as simple changes with protein choices and spiciness.
The portions were very reasonable for the price. And the server was very friendly and amicable to our needs!
We will most definitely be visiting this restaurant again! It's my new favorite spot for Thai food! The best I've had since we moved here last year!
best coffee in ri
Great food, big portions!
Excellent quick service, fresh food presented with flair.
No good is a lonely place I don't see people getting in there I was standing in front for couple hours. No movement at all. How is the food I don't know and I don't want to know.
Great seeing
Simply the best Thai restaurant in Providence.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the world! The service is always fast, friendly and attentive. The neighborhood isn't great but there is parking in the lot behind the restaurant.
Thai Tea hhnnnnggggg get some.
We actually walked out after we ordered because on my way back from the bathroom I overheard them talking about us because they didn't like the way we requested changes to our dishes instead of just eating it the way it was meant to be eaten ... Very bad comments that can't be repeated here. Awful
First time eating here and it was delicious! Ordered takeout but next time I will have to dine in. Fast, friendly service. And super cheap. The Tom Yum soup is amazing.
Never had something I didn't absolutely love
Amazing foooood. I've been going here with my parents for 10+ years, the food is great and the service is excellent. The wait times are minimal also!
Highly recommend the Pad Kee Mou, Radnar and Fried Ice Cream!
Always good food at at a fair price. Great service.
I have been going to Thai Star for about 25 years. They serve very good Thai food. Fresh and authentic. They will serve it spicy to your taste, even if that is not very spicy! We have never had a bad meal or poor service experience. It is a small neighborhood restaurant, not expensive, and I highly recommend it. Some people BYOB.
Good food.
Strong Smith Hill Thai. Massaman curry and dumplings for the win
