Pete's Thai restaurant is our go-to place for delicious Thai food at a very reasonable price. The lunch menu is an incredible value of a soup, rice, and a curry for under $10. We usually have vegetarian curries, one with coconut milk and one with chili. You can customize your level of spiciness from "Cautious" to "Real Thai". The Thai Garden salad is also delicious with its peanut sauce. Very unassuming spot but well worth the visit and well known to the locals

Had their lunch entrees 3 times now, and every time has been solid. The soup appetizer and the egg rice (part of the non-noodle dishes) are particularly awesome. Definitely recommend.

Worst Thai food in Newport (I’ve eaten at all other restaurants) and some of worst Thai food I’ve ever had. I ordered red curry and curry fried rice.

The red curry had one note of flavor, and the vegetable assortment in it was very bizarre (frozen peas, really?). I ordered it extra spicy, and it was no spicier than mayonnaise. Also, the man who took my order on the phone said they do offer curry fried rice, but the rice I received was definitely just regular fried rice. I think that was just a language barrier. The fried rice was very bland.

I was hoping this place would be a good, cheaper alternative to the other Thai joints in Newport, but I definitely wish I had spent a few extra dollars going somewhere with decent food!

I absolutely love this Thai restaurant. I hope this Thai restaurant lives on forever because its truly a gem. I simply cannot find any Thai restaurant in the northern part of this state that can even come close to this one. Make sure you stop by here if your ever on Aquidneck island. Especially for a tasty, filling, and cheap lunch. I highly recommend the Chicken Pad Prik King- probably my most favorite dish and food overall. The owner and his wife are nice people and I hope they continue to prosper here for eternity.

Best Thai food on the island. Tom yum soup is perfect, pad Thai isn’t overly sweet like a lot of Thai restaurants, nam sod is spicy and tangy and perfect to pair with pad Thai, spring rolls are crispy and the filling is hearty and savory. The duck curry is amazing, perfect flavor paired with the crispy duck skin and juicy meat. Still have to try the beef curry and green curry but everything for as long as I’ve been going here is always delicious.

The food was awesome, extremely flavorful! They were severely understaffed, not sure if it had anything to do with us going on a Saturday night. There was only one person serving and one person cooking. However, service was top notch, the person who served us was extremely nuce and friendly.

Fewer customers meant, we did not have to wait too long though.

Great Thai food and a great owner. The lunch specials are great value: entree includes rice and soup du jour for less than $6 for most items. It can get pretty crowded at lunch during the week due to nearby business, but food is always quick out of the kitchen.

Had a wonderful dinner with a group of friends. We shared entrees, every one was delicious!

Tom Yum soup was very flavorful, salty, sour and spicy. Green curry with shrimp was alright, a bit small in portion. Pineapple fried rice was on par with other Thai restaurants. There weren't a lot of people on a Saturday evening, maybe because we came a bit late at almost 9pm. The older gentlemen at the reception was friendly. Maybe due to only him on the outside taking orders and serving food, it was a little slow getting the food.

Best Thai place I’ve been to in a long while. This is a two-person operation restaurant so expect some wait times, but nothing too excessive. Food is authentic and the prices are very reasonable (to the point where the locals are saying they should increase to match inflation).

Food was not good, and the cheap price kind of matched the pricing. Of what we tried - tom yum soup was mainly water with salt and didn't have much. The noodle soup felt like mainly water too. The curry felt like a mixture of water and curry powder that's been on a shelf for while in a grocery store.
Facility and feel looked like something from the 70s, that isn't kept up to date with the times. Menu's absence of any pictures and wording appears to be the same since at least 5 years ago, compared to other reviews. It was very dark inside, and the layout had a strange L shape. If you're looking for Thai food, the Siam square Thai restaurant is much better, just a 30 second drive south.

Look past your initial impression of the tired decor and stay for the food. Everything was fresh and made to order. The duck with curry sauce was amazing. The chicken satay was moist and perfectly cooked with a very fresh peanut sauce. The Thai jasmine tea was hot and flavorful. The owner serves and his wife is the chef…dedicated and friendly. We will be back to enjoy and support this hardworking dynamic duo.

This dish is disgusting. There's no other way to describe it. I don't understand how a chef could think this is good. The noodles are gluey, the dish lacks sauce and the flavor tastes like its been in the cooler for days.
I am so frustrated and disappointed that this is my experience at nearly every restaurant on this island. I don't know why I even try new places. I always waste my money.
I cannot recommend this place at all.

Helpful staff. I didn't see it in the menu, but I asked if they could do a vegetarian som tam (green papaya salad --- no fish sauce or shrimp). They did, and it was great! Such a treat! Vegetable coconut curry was perhaps a little salty for me, but the flavor was good. Highly recommended!

Update 11/2021: Went back again and had the same excellent, fast service and fantastic food. Favorites are the soups and the curry dishes. I prefer variety, so I pick 1 beef dish, one chicken and one seafood. Very pleasant inside. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

Wonderful experience at Bangkok City. From someone who eats Thai food often, I must say that the food was delicious, and there were a very wide variety of dishes on the menu. The group of us who went there ordered 14 different dishes in total, and all of them were delightful. Very well balanced flavors. The sour noodle appetizer was my favorite starter. Pete, the fella who took care of us was also quite pleasant. The price of the items are also quite reasonable. I will be back next time I am in Newport.

Been going here regularly for 15 years. The food is great. Prices are reasonable, which means service can be slow at lunch, when it gets busy, so go when you have time to relax. Dinner portions are much larger than lunch, and so is the menu. I highly recommend Shrimp in the Pot, and the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. I've just made myself hungry writing this. Haha.

Owner was very nice. The food is not super authentic Thai. I liked the Bangkok duck more than Pad Puk. Pad puk was a little bland.

Probably the most honest restaurant I’ve been to. High quality ingredients, great taste, and excellent service. Can’t go wrong with any order. The Chango is served with generous 2 fresh mango slices with perfect sweetness and ripeness - better than any mangoes I’ve ever bought from any grocery stores and the coconut sweet rice is just the right amount of sweetness and stickiness.

Mr. Pete is the best! We were stationed here for training and got takeout/dine in often and always had the best experience. Mr. Pete not only knew our orders by heart but knew our names and was just the most pleasant person you could imagine. Ten out of ten, would always recommend!

worst Pad See Ew I've ever had, not authentic, doesn't taste like thai food. Every thai place I've been to makes this dish with chinese broccoli not broccoli. The flat noodles are not separated. Will not go again.

I have recently eaten at Bankok City several times and have enjoyed the meals enough to agree with my friends to return several times. Even more so because they are open until 9pm while others are not dine in or closing at 8pm... And so... my 3rd time in a month and I still enjoyed a different meal each time.

I love this place! Good food and good customer service. Chicken satee, fried rice and winter roll are my favorite. I also love the free arroz caldo soup :) If you miss asian food you gotta try this restaurant.

Yummy spicy food with flavor

I have only gotten takeout at this place but I was not super impressed with their green curry. Their chicken pad Thai was also very underwhelming. I will say they have great prices and service, but the food is nothing to praise.

One of my favorite restaurants of my life, and hands down the best Thai food on Aquidneck Island.. Pete and Dara are the nicest people in the world, and the food is amazing.. Mee Grob and Summer Rolls are only found at Bangkok City, and their fried rice and pad si ew are second to none.. You will not be disappointed with anything you have
