Thai food favorites in a casual, contemporary dining room with full bar
Tl;dr: Overall 4 β despite a metal twist tie (see photos) found in the grilled salmon entree
The metal twist tie notwithstanding, I enjoyed the grilled salmon entree in curry sauce. Thankfully the metal twist tie didn't harm me in any way, except for the psychological disturbance. The manager apologized and later offered some kind of coconut dessert (I didn't hear her fully) -- presumably free of charge π€£ but I did not confirm -- but I declined and told her no worries. I understand this can happen once in a while, so I don't reduce their rating (or my tip). That said, I do want to mention it here so that if other guests run into repeat issues it becomes more serious.
Super yum! Vegetarian asian dumplings with amazing sauce, delicious roti canai Indian pancakes with delicious curry dip. Amazing green curry with chicken. Delicious dan dan noodles with tofu. Highly recommend this place!
Also worth noting they have a mocktail list that gives prices without alcohol included, but you can add alcohol to them. I found the menu confusing but worth sharing with others because I missed out on their amazing mocktail + liquor!
A+ waiter! We had such a pleasant experience mostly due to our incredible waiter. He was very polite and sweet. He went above and beyond to write happy birthday on our dessert plate and even sang with my husband. We wish him the best in all that he does.
My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner at the restaurant and the food was delicious. Not only did it look good, but it smelled and tasted even better. It was brought out quickβ fresh and steaming! Will be coming back.
Absolutely perfect meal with our family here. A few of us are gluten free and they were incredibly helpful and we could eat most of the items on the menu. The pad thai and curry were amazing, as well as the steamed veggies with the peanut sauce. Great prices too.
Xiandu is a mix of Thai and Indian cuisine, a rare setup you see in the city. They have high tops and bar seating on the first floor (street level) with tons of seating up the set of stairs. The quality of the food and speed it comes out is great, with the only recommendation of sticking to βtypicalβ dishes of that cuisine youβre looking for. For example, the shrimp Thai green curry is FANTASTIC. The Dan Dan noodlesβ¦ not a much (but still good donβt get me wrong). The dumplings were very well made with tons of filling which I feel isnβt always the case and a great dipping sauce. Great for big parties (there were a number of 8+ groups) that were easily accommodated.
Reasonably priced, good food, will be back.
Xiandu is by far the best Thai fusion restaurant Iβve ever had the delight to eat in. From innovative cocktails, cold beer and some of the friendliest wait staff around PLUS the best Pad Thai, dumplings, curry and everything else on the menu, Xiandu is a true neighbor hood gem
Amazing food and drinks (especially the lychee martinis)! Great neighborhood spot and everyone is incredibly kind!
This place is sooooo good. The food is always delicious, and the staff is always friendly. They make excellent cocktails as well. Hands-down my favorite restaurant in the city. People who are giving one-star reviews should explain why, so their concerns can be addressed. I have never known the owner, manager, chef, or waitstaff to not address a concern. They are the epitome of welcoming to everyone, hospitable, and customer service-oriented!
Food is greasy and unappetizing appearing with stale old lettuce as a garnish. All the noodle dishes taste alike. If you want great Thai food try Grandma's Place a block away at 13th & Walnut. Great atmosphere and much better food.
Not impressed
Poor service
Great ππ»

Pad thai was very good.

We reserved this place for dinner, and itβs definitely a good idea to book in advance as the restaurant was packed. We ordered Pad Thai noodles, pineapple fried rice, veg dumplings, Thai tea, and a mint mojito. The noodles were delicious, the Thai tea and fried rice were decent, but the mint mojito was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend this place!
One of the best Thai places in Philly to me. If you can handle heat, their spice in any dish is incredible.
We had an excellent dinner at Xiandu! Everything was absolutely delicious and service was fantastic. Although the vegan options werenβt clearly listed on the menu, the waiter knew exactly what was available. The meat eaters at the table were very happy with their selections as well.
The big hits were the Tofu Baker, Yellow curry, Chicken satay, and pad thai.
From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The service was outstandingβour server was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and checked in just the right amount to make sure everything was perfect.
The food was incredible. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked.

Amazing Thai food, especially the pad Thai. Very good ambience. A tad pricey, and they charge extra for small things like extra peanuts. But overall very good food.
The guy who took my order was mumbling instead of speaking at an audible volume. I had to ask him to speak louder and repeat himself every time he spoke. Additionally, I specifically asked for the tofu and veggie yellow curry but without any peppers. And what do I get? The yellow curry without tofu and only with peppersβ¦ i have no issue with people who mumble instead of talk volubly but they shouldnβt be working in the service industry since speaking is the essence of the role. On top of that, the taste of the food was only mediocre compared to other Thai curries I have had. Needless to say, I wonβt be coming back.
We have had nothing but amazing experiences at Xiandu over the last few years! The food is excellent (especially the Khao Soi Gai, Yellow Curry, Fried Rice, and Xiandu Chicken), and the service/atmosphere is even better. Bonnie and Rina and the rest of the team are the friendliest people and always remember the intricacies of our orders, even when we sometimes forget! I have come here for almost every celebration, including birthdays, anniversaries, dinners out when our parents/families are in town, and big sports games (yes, they have big TVs and a bar too). We always feel like family when we come here, and a Google review is not enough space to express how amazing this place is. Thank you so much to the whole team at Xiandu - you guys rock!
Good food .. good service .. we went in a group of 11 and everyone enjoyed every bite from appetizers to their main entreeβs..
Roti Canai was delicious. 7 day happy hour. Red curry and pad thai were very tasty as well. Very reasonable prices. Highly recommend
I am very particular about food with no onion and garlic and vegetarian food
They were very nice , helped me to choose the dish and I was very satisfied
Nice staff, good food, fair prices.
Wonderful , tasty, unique and fun.
While the service and restaurant itself were lovely and clean, the food was stale and had minimal flavor.
Excellent food and service! My family's fav Thai spot in Philly
Most of the food was good. Tried roti canai, its the best. the entree green, masaman, and panang curries were good. Ambiance and service were good.
Best Thai food!!!
We are a proud Asian household and any comments here you find criticizing taste heed with caution. Their flavors and recipes are as terrific as they come in the entire greater Philadelphia region. That says a lot given how many Thai restaurants there are here. Weβve tried a good portion of those and still have not found anything that compares. Going on 8 years as patrons of them and usually cannot go more than a month without our 5/5 Shrimp Pad Thai and 5/5 Chicken or Beef Panang curry. They actually treat us like family when we go in to pick up - extremely impressive in this day and age! All this typing has me hungry so Iβll be calling in the next few hours!
I have eaten at Xiandu many times. In my opinion the best Thai food in the city. Great food, great bar, great service. Price is fair and portions are good. If you like Thai food you might up your rating to love.
We have also done take out. No change in quality, but I think worth the trip to eat at this great restaurant.
this food was fine, more Philly food choices.
if you up this way try it, parking off street in deck 1/2 block, fine!
As a vegetarian that loves the flavor of Thai food, itβs not easy to find places that both understand vegetarians and have great food. Xiandu is a standout - probably the best Thai food Iβve had. The place is really nice, not dinghy, and their service is great. Super friendly and really helpful with understanding exactly what youβre looking for. Canβt comment on their meat dishes but the veg & tofu Thai fried rice I had was extremely flavorful , not greasy, had a good serving of veggies, and the Jasmine tea was perfect. Not too expensive either. Highly recommended.
Some of the best food I've ever ate. Heard the "Jacob" guy working the back was going hard on the food, and I love it. Gotta give him a promotion, this Asian food is the best in Philadelphia fr
Ordered through Caviar. Everything was so flavorful. It was still super hot, clearly fresh. We ordered a little bit of everything and was just blown away by each dish.
The dishes were flavorsome! The roti canai was the winner for me from the other dishes I tried. Curry puffs, pad see ew, tofu baker were worth our visit. The Tom yum martini was quite unique, with slight spice added. Weekend dinners can expect a wait, or reserve table ahead.
server was so sweet and accommodating to our group breaking our fast! food was actually spicy (we got level 4 and it was perfect, but we eat really spicy food so keep that in mind) and flavorful π€
A great atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly and I immediately felt welcome. Food was flavorful with good portions and the mango martini is delicious! Will be coming back often.
Nice atmosphere, the waiter was really attentive, lots of options on the menu and the food came out quickly and tasted amazing. I also loved that they had a lot of different mocktails on the menu. I got Dan Dan noodles and the sunset marteani and everything was so good. Would definitely come again to try more of their menu
Overall a very nice experience. Had an early dinner (maybe a few minutes until 5) so the restaurant was basically empty. decent spring rolls but the star was my curry noodle soup with delicious crispy chicken skins, battered chicken, tofu, shrimp, and lots of noodles. Very filling and heart warming. They even made some off menu steamed vegetables for my girlfriendβs mom upon request.
Great food and service. The duck with pineapple is amazing. I also liked their ginger infused cocktails.
The food is awesome here. We went 3 times during our time in Philadelphia.
this is THE Thai restaurant I recommend to everyone in Philly, absolutely amazing!
i am not really into Thai food but my wife is. food was superb and I really enjoyed everything from drink, app, curry, AND dessert
Friendly service in a relaxing environment. Excellent happy hour menu! Affordable and delicious!
Delicious and well priced! The staff were very friendly
Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. They have amazing cocktails and serve some great Massaman curry, Pad kee mao, and Thai fried rice!
Food was good, waitress was strange. I asked could I go to the bar and she initiated a speech about half priced drinks and I should just drink at the table , girl get a grip. You were going to get a tip anyway because it was automatic, it was 5 people, and the bartender was too. Also when the drink came out, it wasnβt presented well for that whole speech. People come to restaurants for liquor just as much as the food at this point in life, if you drink.
The food was good and filling, I had the Thai Paradise and an Old fashioned.
Not your ordinary Thai restaurant!!! The food is incredible (perhaps the best Thai I've ever had stateside) . the staff and owners (hi Bonnie!) are warm and friendly. My waistline is lucky I don't live in Philly otherwise I'd eat here every day.
This place near city hall has some
quiet comforting food to offer. We ordered Thai ice tea, Pad thai noodles & Red curry. The food was yummy if you are not looking for spicy food. To spice up the food we got their dried red chilly flakes , god that was real spice and made the food more enjoyable. The red curry had the best tofu I have ever had at any Thai place, it almost tasted like the Cottage cheese, thats how deliciously it was cooked. The pad thai noodles with chicken was so good served with some bamboo shoots on the side. I would have rated this place 5/5 for food if it was not for the thai tea. The thai tea was not the best. I would visit this place again and would like to try their other delicacies leaving the thai ice tea.
Love this place. Been coming for many years and it's my go-to Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. The nicest owners and staff with great service, pretty strong drinks and just solid Thai cuisine. My fav is the red curry and fried rice. My friend got the drunken noodles and it's amazing too.
Had fancy fried rice. It was delicious. Has a big veg and non veg selection. Can handle dietary restrictions. Can make 5-6 items without onion/garlic(Jain).
Great food, great prices, great atmosphere.
The food is wonderful and the service is equally amazing! I love everything about Xiandu, including their prices.
Food was okay. Fast service.
love thisplace!
Foods were amazing. It was a quiet time we went. Service were quick!.
Great!
Chicken Roti Canai dish is mostly potato and raw hard bones.

We order to Khao Soi Gai and the Panang Curry. The Khao Soi came with pickled greens which was a new and nice surprise to me. It still wasnβt as spicy or red curry tasting as I would prefer. The Panang wasnβt peanut-y enough. Otherwise the service was great with fun cocktail menu!
The Asian Tacos go fkkin crazzyyyy!!! Savory duck amazingly spiced in a mouthwatering freshly made roti. I almost went to heaven.
The Pink Lady Marg with lychee was β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
The service was amazing too they were so sweet and everything was just smooth. Perfect meal!

Food and service were absolutely fantastic! The Khao Soi Gai and pineapple fried rice were highlights. Weβll definitely be back!
Really good atmosphere, loved it!!!
Food is excellent and both host and server is kind and friendly. Would definitely recommend!
Terrible experience- stay far away. Never delivered the order, canceled after 45 min with ZERO communication. Stay far far away
They did not deliver the food when they said they did. Do not trust this business.
Every time I come to pick up food its never ready .... very slow process .
A love story: I have been coming here for 10+ years and Bonnieβs food has gotten me through the toughest years of medical training. I come here regularly, and I have tried almost the entire menu. Every single thing is fresh, flavorful, and unforgettable. 20/10
I am sad to see the bad reviews through out the years here. I went in for the first time today for lunch and it was the cutest place. On TOP of the food being so amazing! I ordered Tom Yum soup, which I now favor beyond other places in different areas of Philly and other states. Then I got PENANG CURRY. Omg perfect portion enough to take home for dinner. Iβm not done the sticky rice mango with coconut dessert was delicious.
Every dish came out hot (temp) both me and my friend. Usually someoneβs plate is colder. Fresh fresh food. Taste like the Chef was from Thailand.
BUT if youβre not cultured. And never tried other ethnic foods do not come here. Itβs not a Chinese restaurant. Itβs a Thai restaurant with a hint of Vietnamese dishes. You have to be open to different taste. Itβs sad to see a bad review because you donβt like the taste of Thai. Itβs not the food itβs you.
Probably the friendliest restaurant in Midtown Center city. They host you like you are family. The cuisine is always well served & delicious. Their specialty ginger-tumeric infused drink menuπ·π· is eclectic! They also serve pick up as well if you're on the go. It's a very laid back environment where you find yourself coming back.
I had their duck OMG to die for
The roti canai was really really good. The pad thai was purely ketchup mixed with noodles, the pad si ew was a big ball of mush, the noodles in both dishes were so mushy we would gag when trying to swallow them. We each took 3 bites of our meals and then just tossed it and went and got tacos.. Kind of insane that it was $55
One of our most favourite restaurants, food (especially mango chicken) is excellent, service is extremely kind. Been going here for years and will continue to come back.
Amazing
Good food service and ambiance!
Food was just okay, nothing spectacular. I had the thia shrimp fried rice and the Wontons. The magarita was very sour with little to no tequila. I told the owner I didn't taste any tequila inside and she simply said it not made with a lot of tequila. Mind you it's suppose to be a Margarita, but I find that some Asians do not care about customer service they just care about making money.
I've been there exactly once and I can tell you with certainty it is the best restaurant I've been to. The food is absolutely goated. I took their Thai Chili Mango? Best chicken I've had in a restaurant. The vegetables all went extremely hard. Sauce is out of this world. I also got an Iced Lychee Green Tea, honestly the highlight of my evening. The service is also unheard of, it honestly scares me a little bit how good they were. I've attained enlightenment the moment my food arrived, you should have a legal obligation to eat here if you're passing through.
Excellente expΓ©rience, tant pour la cuisine que pour le service. Nous recommandons vraiment Xiandu !
Took a bite of the Xiandu chicken and my soul ascended.
It's delicious please go there
A must try in center city. A great menu of Thai, Malaysian, Indian, and Chinese. A lot of the dishes have spice (as a warning to some) but several non spicy and or vegetarian options, so something for everyone. I ordered the drunken noodles and asked for Thai spicy and they delivered the heat - most places won't really make it spicy but Xiandu listened. The mochi deserts were lovely. This is a great date spot with happy hour 4:30-6
Great flavors and perfect atmosphere for a dine-in.
Plenty of drink options and food tastes superb.
I have only ordered thru Uber eats. Always good. Best peanut sauce and chicken satay around!
Best thai food in the city. Have tried a lot of good places in Philly but Xiandu is the standout. Always reliable for the curries and other staples like pad kee mao. Also recommend the Singapore Pai-koot (braised pork ribs) for something special. A great environment to eat there instead of getting takeout. They also have a very nice and reliable delivery person if you order delivery.
This restaurant is so good. It's a bit pricey but the portions and location make it worth it. The art and decorations are fun to look at and the music is calm. The food is extremely delicious. The bathroom is also very clean and up to date.
People looking for Thai Indian fusion kind of food, this is a good option in Philly.
This place has some good options in non alcoholic drinks and thai food. In food I tried the drunken chicken noodles and those were good.
Curry puff with chicken filling was something new I tried and was not disappointed.
In non alcoholic drink, I tried first love and enjoyed it. It tasted good, with bits of fruits at the bottom.
The place was moderately busy.
The servers were good, the place had really good ambiance. Restrooms were clean and usable. I can recommend it to people looking for a dine in. Parking might be difficult to find based on time of the day, street parking was the option available.
Tasty Thai and Thai fusion dishes.
Not super authentic in the level of flavors and spices, but fresh ingredients well-prepared.
Jeff our waiter was absolutely amazing, he was super attentive.
I also really enjoyed the DanDan noodles. Get that, I canβt recommend enough. That will not be my go to dish. Also, their crushed red paper is the greatest. My boyfriend really enjoyed his drunken noodles. 10/10 recommend.
Best thai food in the area and great service.
Visiting from NYC and craving some Thai. This place was near the movie theater we were at and had good reviews. It did not disappoint! In fact, it was better than expected! Would definitely come here again if we are back in the area and probably would eat here again if we were here longer. My husband got Thai fried rice and loved the fried egg on top (he orders this dish a lot and has never gotten a fried egg on top.) My daughter got Pad See Ew and I liked that there were additional vegetables in there (carrot and red peppers.) She really enjoyed it and being a teenager, didn't care for the additional vegetables (they didn't go to waste tho! Mom and Dad ate them!) I got the Singapore Laksa Curry Noodle soup and it was delicious! I got about 2 pieces each of chicken, scallop, shrimp and tofu. The curry broth was delicious with a small hint of heat (the perfect amount!) The portions were a good size for the price!
The food and the service was excellent! Food came right on time and service was kind and friendly.
I had a wonderful time at this restaurant, everything was exceptional β the waitresses were wonderful and I was able to get my food in a timely manner. And the food was one of the best I ever had β it was freshly made. The taste of the food excited all my taste buds and it genuinely made me feel happy. I highly recommend this place. 10/10 must try again!!
Food is okay. But terrible customer service.
I dish that I ordered had missing items in it.
Definitely not worth the price as well. I'd recommend trying other restaurants in the same area.
Iβve been here twice for dinner and both times the food and service has been great. I highly recommend the thai fried rice and roti with a side of yellow curry. So delicious! definitely a favorite spot when in philly.
Food is delicious! I go here all the time
Went with my spouse for dinner. Great service and reasonable prices. However, the food was good and above average. Donβt expect Thai food as itβs NOT A TRUE THAI PLACE. It was definitely a fusion like explained the name of the restaurant. Decent options for vegetarians. Papaya salad and pineapple fried rice were great. Pad Thai, however, is made in tamarind sauce rather than peanut sauce so much more sweeter taste (fusion part!). Thai tea was ok, thereβs a room for improvement.
The food was very good and the staff were extremely friendly. Only downside was that they did not offer any lunchtime specials compared to restaurants nearby.
My favorite restaurant in all of Philadelphia! The food is amazing and the service is unmatched!
10 out of 10. Definitely worth the travel from NJ. The spring rolls, Pad Thai, and Xiandu chicken is incredible!!! And the servers offer great customer service.
The ambiance is a 9/10. The apps are 10/10. I ordered the roti (sooooo good) & samosas. Drinks are delicious & are at a good price point. The entree I was expecting to be as good as the appetizers. Drunken noodle is my fav & I have had better but I can see myself revisiting.
We tried thai food for the first time and it was so good. Our server was very nice at recommending really good dishes. Good options for vegetarians as well. Although, It was a bit expensive then regular dinners.
This is by far THE BEST THAI restaurant in Philly!!!
Overall a very pleasant experience. Staff was attentive and polite. Food was great. The Xiandu chicken dish was very tasty and just below my personal limit of hotness. Burnt twice, so to say ^_^. So I approve π.
Outstanding food.
The rice dishes are excellent. The noodles are always... soggy/ overcooked. That's Bev my experience with both times I've visited. Good overall. But I ain't order any more noodle dishes.
I had the Thai Chili Mango which was AMAZING. I had it with crispy chicken which was breaded and cooked so well. It was served on a plate, but the dish was in a butter pastry bowl. Lots of vegetables in the dish. Was not spicy, wish it was a little hotter because of the sweet mango. But honestly, the mango and sauce wasn't overwhelmingly sweet like I thought it would be. Had it was a Mojito. The mojito was not good. It was sweet and packed flavor. Tasted pre made or from a mix.
Highly recommend this Thai place. One of the best places in this part of the city.
Xiandu chicken and prawn curry are all great!
Good food but not straight up Thai, which I should have realized by the "fusion" in the name. Not overly spiced and only Sriracha to make it hotter. Good, but not great Thai food. If you are wanting real Thai go elsewhere. Otherwise the food was good overall. It is a bit noisy inside, at least on the upper area.
Good comfortable feel in the restaurant, with very flavorful dishes and attentive and friendly staff.
Brown shrimp fried rice made my trip! Went back 2x. Friendly staff!
Traveling for work kept me downtown and based on the reviews for this place I have it a shot. Looking back I shouldβve have skipped this highly rated place. It might have been stellar some time ago but the shrimp avocado salad had bits of salad that was already browning and slimy, it paired perfectly with the worst chicken satay Iβve ever had. How do you burn chicken on the outside and leave it uncooked on the inside; this wasnβt steak and it was pretty gross. The pad Thai was pretty standard but uninspiring and bland. Noodles were over cooked and melded together within 4 minutes.
Do not recommend.
Everything was perfect. Atmosphere, awesome. Turmeric ginger infused cocktails were spectacular. I'll be dreaming of the Khao soi gai until next time. Everyone loved their meals! Will definitely be stopping in again!!
I had dinner there last night. It was my first time eating Thai food. Ordered Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp; it was delicious! The service was terrific. I'm definitely going back again.
I loved the food.
When i think fusion im skeptical but this place does both Thai and Indian perfectly. Great cocktails. Good calm vibe. Even watched the Super Bowl here while everyone else packed the bars. I highly recommend the roti canso, the lychee martini and the dumplings sample. The beef options are amazing. Will be back multiple times.
This place is fire. I was craving a Panang and a lychee martini and of course they had both.
We went for dinner and the food was delicious! Staff was friendly, decor was nice, restaurant was super clean, prices were not bad and we even found things for my 3 year old picky eater to eat!
Khao Soi isn't on every Thai menu, but they had it and it was delicious!
This is one of our favorite Thai spots in the city. Service is very fast and everyone is always so friendly and helpful. Every dish weβve tried has been flavorful and delicious. We love the Roti and all of the noodle dishes.
This is our go-to Thai place in Philly! Everything is always phenomenal, flavors are rich and complex, some of the best Thai food I've had anywhere. Highly recommend the lettuce wraps, kao soy, and the pad thai with beef is out of this world.
Best Thai food! Everything is great.
Great service and delicious food! We were sat immediately on a busy Saturday night and our order came out quickly!
Food is consistently delicious! Love the panang curry. Delivery is quick.
The Khao Soi is absolutely amazing!
Definitely give this place a try!
A little over six years ago I lived in the Tak region of Thailand for a year. One of my favorite meals there, and one that I had almost every day for lunch, was a curry soup with noodles and chicken called Khao Soi Gai. Since I've returned home to the states, I've been looking for a restaurant that makes the kind of Khao Soi Gai I had in Thailand. Xiandu Thai is that place. When I tell you that this soup is authentic and delicious, I sincerely mean it. My wife and I have also tried some of their other entrees, like Panang Curry Chicken and Spicy Thai Basil and Chicken. All of it is delicious, but Khao Soi Gai is the clear winner here. Thank you Xiandu Thai!
So fresh and great with customized orders
