I found this place during my business trip to Oregon. It was a cold night. When I entered the restaurant, a pleasant woman invited me to a table. I first ordered a warm cup of tea. And I chose Tofu Tom Yum Soup, Pad See Ew, with Purple Rice Coconut Milk for dessert. All meals are so delicious and good service. Highly recommend here.

Food was good, but not mind-blowing, especially considering the prices of some of the specials. I had the Tong Thai special, Pumpkin Salmon Curry. The salmon was cooked well but partially breaded... Why destroy such perfect meat by breading it?! Okay, that's a personal preference yes. However, the earthy flavors of the pumpkin (which was delicious) did not lend itself well to the sea-side, tangy flavor of the fish. In my opinion a milder protein such as tofu or chicken would have been so so much more delicious.

Also, the Thai tea, while yummy, is in a very tiny glass considering the price (3.75 today), and the glass was completely filled with ice... So not much drink haha.

Overall, good! Worth a stop, but not necessarily a must-have.

I am so glad I did. This review is for a take out experience, not a dine in experience.

I ordered online and the food was ready fairly quickly for me to pick up. When I arrived, the staff was very quick to help me and the food was delicious.

I had the Thai fried rice with tofu and the fried spring rolls. They were both very fresh and warm. The food has great Thai flavors and was rich in flavor. It was definitely satisfying!

If you are craving great Thai food, I definitely recommend Tong Thai!

I've wanted to stop by here for a little while. Went in to see it had a two-phase entrance setup, that was unique to me. Inside was clean and spacious yet filled to a comfortable point. Staff was helpful, efficient and friendly.

Was looking for a nice place to eat as my last meal before jaw surgery, and decided to give this place a try because of the positive reviews. Lucky we did, as the food was delicious!! I ordered the sizzling beef and my boyfriend got the crying tiger. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful and well-cooked, from the vegetables to the sauces to the meat. The steak that came with the crying tiger was perfectly done and was better (and larger) than steaks I've had at other restaurants for 1.5-2x the price. The crying tiger also came woth some sort of house sweet sauce that was just awesome. Mango sticky rice was great as well. Prices were about the same as most other thsi places I've been to, definitely worth it. Will be coming again!

I eat here 2 times a month now. Can't help it. It's THAT good. I mainly get their curries because their portions are VERY generous.

I'd highly recommend the massaman curry with chicken. Extra spicy. It's phenomenal.

The food was great! Had the lemongrass pad Thai, it was very flavorful and supprising refreshing from the lemongrass.

Dishes were undersized and more expensive, lacking bold tastes like a standard Thai restaurant. We ordered sizzling beef and it was mostly onions. Very dissatisfied with it.

They changed something recently. I had the Pad Kee Mao and the noodles have been mushy the last couple of times. So they have been overcooking them.

Good food, but nothing exceptional. They were out of sticky-rice and mango, my favorite Thai dessert.

Very customer friendly and the food was very good.

The best thing about this place is the service, all the staff working at this place is very friendly, and do their best to serve you the best food. This place is near our house and we have few more Thai places here but we always go to Tong Thai because of the taste of food and the friendly nature of the staff.

I just cant say enough about how much i love this place. Always friendly faces when you walk in. The food is on another level of greatness. Always satisfied to the fullest when i walk out the door. My favorite is the duck curry extra spice.

I’ve gone here several times now and they’re spicy basil chicken is consistently AMAZING. It’s perfectly crunchy, spicy, and has a great ratio of vegetables to chicken. I also enjoy their basil fried rice.

If you are looking for a quaint, clean and comfortable Thai restaurant, we highly recommend Tong Thai. Really a hidden gem of a place in a busy part of town.

All of the dishes lacked flavor. The heat level was good but everything was bland. The food arrived hot at the table and what was supposed to be cold, cold. The fresh rolls, peanut sauce, noodles and curry were just tasteless. Nice people and atmosphere. I’ve had and prefer Thai food with more seasoning.

On my first visit I was informed that the menu prices had increased, due to inflation, but they were still waiting for new menus. I really appreciated this since some places just don’t tell you. The price increase was something like $0.50 which I find perfectly reasonable.

I’ve been back more than a few times since my first visit around a year ago. I have tried many dishes and have enjoyed each one except broccoli beef, simply because they use regular broccoli. Aside from this broccoli issue, everything I’ve had has been great.

It’s one of the best Thai places anywhere nearby. They've got all the regular, standard stuff, plus a few extra items they put on their menu. Highly recommended.

I recently had a takeout order, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations.

Despite arriving right before closing in the afternoon, the staff were incredibly accommodating and still provided excellent service. I decided to try their drunken noodles, and they were absolutely delicious. The flavors were bold and well-balanced, and the noodles had the perfect texture. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with my experience and would highly recommend this restaurant.

Ordered the Pad Kee Mao and the salad rolls with tofu. The tofu salad rolls were much smaller than anywhere I’ve ever seen even on their website pictures on their menu was much larger.

The punch line was when I was chewing what I thought was chicken turned out to be some sort of a wax paper, and when I brought it to their attention, they said it was paper used to drain the vegetables, which made no sense to me. They didn’t offer to remake the meal. They just went ahead and took it off my bill. The owner/chef came out to explain why this was in my food but I’m still shocked to fact I almost ingested wax paper and what if I thought that was an extra tough piece of chicken and I would’ve eaten it!

I get it things happen but at least remake the dish or ask what the customer wants!! Not the same place as it used to be.

Service was very good and quick for being 5 on a Friday with lots of pick up orders. Unfortunately the food was greasy without much flavor in the sauces. Very minimal vegetables. The chicken satay was good, nice and moist. Pretty expensive for the quality. Not sure if we'll be back and if we do we will order carefully. Parking lot was hard to get in and out.

This place was so good! Went this weekend after a long day working around the house. We were SUPER hungry and everything was so good.

I got the Avocado Shrimp Green Curry for my main and the Coconut Tofu & Fresh Tofu rolls for an appetizer and they were all just perfection. The service was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back!

this is not the Tong Thai that we all knew and loved. the new owners show none of the customer care and quality that had been established by the original owners.
specifically there unwillingness to correct a take out order. what i picked up was not up to standard and i let them know immediately.
interesting that there is no language barrier when they are taking your money....
this place has been a long standard for meetings, celebrations, etc.,... not only will i not support this "restaurant" but i will be verry vocal in my experience there.

THE WORST THAI RESTAURANT I EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE BEWARE. I ASKED FOR THAI BASIL GROUND BEEF ITS LIKE ANY ORIGINAL THAI RECIPE AND THEY GAVE ME CHUNKY SLICED BEEF SALAD. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the Tigard area. The food, atmosphere, and value are superb, and they are very friendly and welcoming. I'm not very helpful regarding the variety of Thai dishes that they offer since I incessantly and invariably get Pad See Ew with tofu, but I will say that this dish is fantastic here. Special kudos to them for staying open during all of the crazy lockdowns. That's when we discovered them since they were offering their tasty fare for takeout. It's even better now that we can eat in. Highly recommended.

It's always epic. We love, love, love their food! We don't eat Thai anywhere else. Hands down is worth it! It's the only restaurant I have saved in my phone.

I came in to pick up a doordash order. The lady was very hesitant to give me the order even after I showed her the name on my phone to verify. She asked me "aren't you picking up two orders?" To try to catch me in a lie. She thought I was trying to steal. She then made me show her every food item on the list of my phone to make sure it matches the name. I've come in dozens of times to pick up from here and no one has ever done this to me, and I've never heard of it happening to anyone else. It's because I'm poor and can't afford nice clothes. She probably thought I was homeless. When she finally handed me the order she looked at me like I was insane. I'm just trying to work a job and earn honest money and I get profiled by how I look.

The Tom Kah gave me high hopes that this would be a wonderful experience. The flavors were pleasant, deep, and well balanced. While it was good, the Massamun Curry and Garlic Supreme were bland - not what was expected after the soup. We were a bit put off that we were not warned about the size of the portions - we ordered 2 soups and 1 order would have provided an appetizer size cup for 4 people. The entrees were reasonably sized. The staff was pleasant but our server’s English was not great. Finally assessment - good for a lunch but nothing to write home about.

Foods good but a little bland. Waitress needs to slow down a bit. We would ask her a question and she would assume we were asking her to get something and would take off so fast to get it and were like no were just asking u a question. Overall it's a good place to grab a bite.

One of my favorite Thai places in all of SW Portland. The staff are great, always on time, every dish I have had here is fresh and made to order. The servers and cooks take pride in the food. I have tried their Tom Yum salad, Pad Thai, Crab Fried Rice, Different curries, Mango Paradise, and their barbecue chicken. Everything is fantastic and always consistently good. That is the hard thing in owning a restaurant as consistency is key. This place has it. If you are around this area there is no better Thai food than here.

Such a beautiful example of an all around golden Era restaurant. Such sweet staff with huge smiles and laughs, delicious and nutritious food, and nice warm uplifting decorations. The waitress even noticed I practiced the same religion and gave me some of the literature from Thailand within the same religion. Highly recommend! 🪷❤️🪷

We had a carving for some delicious Thai food. Tong Thai didn't disappoint! The food came out hot and flavorful. The portions were a little small. But service was excellent. Cute dine in seating. We got yellow curry and drunken noodles. Yummi! Lots of parking and easy to access off the 99W.

Modest place with spectacular food!

Flavorful! We love pad thai and pad kee mao, and these were both delicious here. You can customize your level of spiciness and for someone who enjoys spicy food, level 3 was perfect, but be warned it is legitimately spicy! The salad rolls were also great and their peanut sauce was on point. The Thai iced tea was also tasty and the service was friendly and attentive. We will be adding Tong Thai to our regular rotation for sure.

Excellent value for money. As a traveler to Portland looking for decent Thai food at a reasonable price, Tong Thai really came through for me. I had their Iced coffee, Basil fried rice with chicken and cashew curry chicken pan fry. Quite a bit for 1 man yet I nearly finished the spread my myself as the taste was really appealing on all dishes. Definitely recommend and would repeat.

Stopped here for a weekday lunch. The inside is comfortable and cozy. The two ladies working the front of the restaurant were very pleasant and the food was delicious. If we're in the area again and hungry for some good Thai food we'll definitely be back.

Went in and asked for basil chicken fried rice - spicey the woman looked at me like she no idea what I was talking about. After 5 minutes and looking at the menu, I missed the word "Hot" but her brain couldn't connect the dots.

I said asked herby, do you not know that what spicey means? She said she didn't.

So after that exchange, on the plate came white (boiled) rice and chicken, and wasn't just not hot, it was devoid if flavor. Picture white chicken with boiled rice flavor. I couldn't eat a second bite.

Ordered a Lad Nah, very flavorful but a bit too salty for me. Friendly service and calm dining environment.

I love Thai food but thus was the best I've had in a very long time. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. Even my 5 year old son enjoyed it. We had a group of 5, we all ordered different things with lots of appetizers and everything was fantastic!

When you ask for hot, they deliver, if somewhat cautiously.

Sometimes you have to build up a relationship with a place for them to unleash the beast when you ask.

I would say this place takes two times. The first time they brought it about 7/10. So I’m hoping to DIE from heat the next time. Their little chilies in fish sauce were actually hot! Surprise. Tbh the PNW tends to have their hear toned and finding actual Thai hot is a search.

Fast, fresh and so good!

First time visit and we can highly recommend. We were greeted and sat down right away. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. We had curry, noodles and soup. Everything tasted amazing. Very reasonable prices. We loved it and will be back.

Everyone here was SUPER SWEET and everything was SO YUMMY I would say here every day if I could hehe!

Great food! A tad expensive but the service was fast and the employees friendly. The furniture is a bit janky (the table I sat at wasn’t bolted to the floor so it rocked a little) but the portions were perfect and the food was hot and comforting.

We've been on a hunt for the perfect Thai food for a long time. It seems that every restaurant would get few dishes right, and few wrong, and so we would keep looking. I think we are found our place now - Tong Thai is exceptional and everything (and i mean EVERY THING) we ordered was delicious. We tried noodle dishes, curries, rice dishes, appetizers, drinks, and all of us were happy. They deliver traditional Thai flavors with good ingredients and few innovative menu items. And they have Khao Soy :-). Great place, i highly recommend.

Yum. Main dish was decent and big enough portion. Price is very reasonable. Unfortunately appetizer was tiny and not very good...especially when they are almost same price as main dish lol

We took my grandma here for a healthy lunch. We needed some vegetables and this place delivered on that requirement! Grandma really liked her lunch, especially the spinach in the soup, which she didn’t stop raving about. I had an excellent pumpkin salmon curry dish. The staff were friendly and accommodating to our needs, and helped Grandma get out of her seat at the end. We will absolutely come back!

Pretty good Thai. The 5 spice is not extreme. If you like spicy, go for 5. Don't let them scare you.

I submitted my order of 11 items and it only took them 25 minutes to dish everything up so I can pick it up. I put my order online through their website.

Nothing was wasted and no leftovers either, it's that good. You can set the level of heat on certain items from the menu and it ranges from 0 to 5.

All the curries they have are so flavorful that you can not be disappointed; the fried rice is tasty too, our favorite is the crab fried rice (no imitation crab), pad thai, both fresh and fried eggrolls you can't go wrong with, thai iced tea is also refreshing ( theirs is a little stronger than others which I like a lot ) and try the purple sticky sweet rice with coconut milk for dessert, your taste buds will thank you.

So please give this place a shot and have an open mind on the food items that you haven't had yet....

Great food and service, an awesome local Thai spot worth visiting-- often.

We eat here fairly often when we're on the westside. I typically get the Pad Kee Mao with chicken, my wife typically orders the Pad Thai. Both are delicious. We periodically order the salad rolls which are also yummy. They use smaller salad rolls than some other restaurants that are more bite-sized but you get several of them so it equates to receiving two larger rolls more commonly found in restaurants. Once in a while, we order the Tom Kah Gah soup which is delicious and plentiful.

The atmosphere is attractive and enjoyable. All of the staff have been wonderful.

Quite often we get take-out and they're quite fast for pick-up.

They really are a great example of a local, neighborhood small business that is doing things well. We love it and totally recommend them.

Fast and friendly service. I recommend this restaurant the pad see ew is a must! I try to stop by every other week. But make sure you get there early as they do close for lunch between 3-4 pm as they are always busy during the lunch rush!

Very bad service, tables appeared not very clean. Would not seat at 2:30 because it was too close to 3:00pm (when they close lunch)

Ate here when I was in the area and was pleasantly surprised. Generous portions, fresh flavors, cooked to perfection, friendly staff. And it wasn't too crowded Saturday for lunch, no lines, no waiting.

Tong Thai has a very authentic feel inside the restaurant and very friendly staff. The food feels healthier than other Thai places I’ve eaten, and I believe it is made fresh to order. Definitely will eat again.

This is some of the best Thai I've had (Pad See Ew) is my go-to. I tried my bf's food and it was great too. The server was very friendly and willing to accommodate any request (I heard others in the restaurant customizing). I would eat here any day. Bonus points for being right next to a Baskin Robbins!

I've tried a dozen things off their menu and been happy with each. Their yellow curry is the best of the curried bunch. Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups were delicious, salad rolls good but standard. The noodles were flavorful.

Good portion sizes, fair prices, the owners are nice people. I consider it the best thai in the area.

I've meant to try the food here for a while because it is close by and the reviews are good, but I am not that familiar with Thai food. I started closer to my familiarity with Japanese food and ordered fried rice, and it was excellent! Then I tried something a little out of my comfort zone, going for a salmon and pumpkin curry... and it was BEYOND excellent! I'm not normally a big fan of pumpkin but I love salmon, but the preparation on the pumpkin and other vegetables was fantastic and the flavors were exceptional. The salmon was just a part of the medley rather than the centerpiece for me (as a salmon-lover) and everything tied together very well. Can't wait to try some other dishes! They are also very friendly. Highly recommend!
