Handcrafted fares inspired by royal thai cuisine
My god is the place good. Drinks were incredible. Every dish is so packed with flavor and beautifully presented. The yum som salad was probably the best “salad” I’ve had all year so good we demolished it before we could even get a picture. I highly highly recommend this spot.
Edit 12/18/24: Came back here recently and was a bit disappointed. The serving sizes were noticeably smaller, service was not as good (not sure if it was a new server or what), and after over $150 for a party of 4 we left hungry. Flavors were still very good but the price to food ratio felt off to me.
A HIDDEN GEM! After trying out different restaurants in Portland I can say this is one of the best I’ve been to. Each dish is unique and exquisite with authentic thai flavors. I could’nt stop eating. Additionally, all the dishes are very well made and beautifully plated, the portions are perfect, the place is cozy and so nice, and the service is excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Sweet, Tangy, Spicy, mild ..you name the flavours and they have it all in their perfect menu! We started with Krathong tang which was delicious and light weight crispy golden cups with bomb of flavours. Chor Muang is just beautiful to look at and also tastes amazing. This is a must try at this place. For salad, we got Yum woon Sen which was sweet tangy and mild spicy. For the main course, we got Pra Lak Long Song which had a nice red curry peanut sauce. Khao Mak gai has tender chicken and flavourful rice that reminded of Biryani from India! We also got coconut water braised pork Belly. Pork was delicious and the sauce was amazing. My favourite was the chicken Roulard green curry. I cannot get over the freshness and flavours in this dish. Also they served a lot of chicken which could be easily shared😃
Overall very good service and amazing dishes.
Certainly! Here’s a glowing review for your experience at the Thai restaurant:
From the moment I stepped into this hidden gem of a Thai restaurant, I knew I was in for something special. The warm, inviting atmosphere immediately set the tone—soft lighting, tasteful décor that balanced elegance with authenticity, and a subtle hum of conversation that never felt overwhelming. It was the perfect setting for an unforgettable meal.
And then came the food. Simply put, I was blown away. Every dish was a masterpiece, bursting with perfectly balanced layers of flavor flavors. The Spicy Red Wine Duck had a mouthwatering char on the grilled duck perfectly paired with a sweet yet earthy spicy sauce, topped with a fresh fruit & herbs, it was clear that every ingredient had been chosen with care and every recipe executed with precision.
Their cocktail take on Thai ice tea “after dark” left a flawless, velvety finish to the meal as we sipped and chatted.
Adding to the experience was the staff—quiet, unobtrusive, yet always present when you needed them. There was no hovering, no interruptions at the wrong moment, just a graceful attentiveness that made me feel completely taken care of. It’s a rare thing to find service that feels this natural, and it only elevated an already exceptional evening.
This isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place to savor, to linger, to appreciate food as an art form. If you’re looking for an extraordinary Thai dining experience, this restaurant delivers in every possible way. I can’t wait to return.
My wife and I had a date night at this hidden gem! Her duck with red wine sauce was some of the best food I have had at a restaurant in a very long time. Perfect. I ordered the pork shoulder in coconut water and it was absolutely awesome; subtle, cooked perfectly and when you took a bite of the pork, rice, pickled zucchini (a sleeper, perfectly pickled) and the spicy chutney the gave me that tasted almost like a salsa verde, it’s just really came together. We both got cocktails and they were decadent, mine was like drinking a puree mango sticky rice, she had a boozy Thai ice tea. Jeez this place is good. Good enough we both felt compelled to write reviews when we really never do.
We arrived much earlier than our 4 o'clock reservation, and while the outdoor seating wasn't ready yet, we stood waiting outside. Despite being busy preparing inside, the chef smiled and waved us in, inviting us to wait indoors. Soon after, other staff members arrived and took our orders even before their official opening time.
For starters, we had Chor Muang and La Tiang. For the main dishes, we enjoyed Coconut Water Braised Pork Belly and Stuffed Zucchini. Both dishes were delicately prepared, beautifully presented, and the flavors reflected the chef's warm personality and excellent taste. Although the restaurant is small, it has a clean and simple decor with a sophisticated atmosphere, enhanced by the jazz music playing in the background.
For dessert, we had Japanese Cotton Cheesecake and Taro Crème Brûlée. Both were gentle in flavor, and the Taro Crème Brûlée was particularly delightful with a texture distinct from the usual creamy brûlées. It had a firm consistency that made it especially enjoyable.
The only downside is that finding parking space can be difficult. However, aside from that, it's a fantastic restaurant.
My family and I loved our experience at Siam Umami for a few reasons:
Making an online reservation via the restaurant's website was simple. We reserved a spot just a few hours before we wanted to eat.
Service was wonderful. We went at opening on a weekday, and there was only one other party there. We were given the option to sit indoors or outdoors. We chose indoors, were promptly seated and, since it was our first time there, introduced by our friendly waiter to the menu and its seasonal items.
Ambiance was inviting for a dinner date: somewhat plain walls, mildly dim lights, and background jazz music that altogether seem to direct attention to conversation around the dining table.
The food was, by far, the best part. Each dish seemed to have a variety of flavors and consistencies that made each item delightfully unique. We ordered the La Tiang and Chor Chaba appetizers. The La Tiang was surprisingly rich with flavor and taste, balanced by the light and fluffy omelette base. The Chor Chaba similarly had a rich interior but with more peanut flavor and a crunchy outer lettuce wrap. Our main entrees were the coconut water braised pork belly and spicy tamarind salmon. The pork belly was tender and juicy. The broth had a light and refreshing nature that reminded me of a soup my grandmother used to make. The salmon was a fun dish with a conglomerate of tastes including sweet and sour (from the sauce), herby, and spicy. The salmon was tender throughout and crispy on the edges, adding a nice crunch to each bite. Lastly, we ordered the taro crème brûlée for dessert. The caramelized and hardened top contrasted well with the soft and sticky consistency below. The taste was more reminiscent of butter mochi rather than taro, but sweet and delicious nonetheless.
Overall, I highly recommend Siam Umami and will be back to try some of their other dishes.
You HAVE to come to this place! Legit fanciest tasting food I have ever had and I've traveled A LOT! The flavors are phenomenal, and I mean phenomenal! For reference, I am not from here, and found these people on Google. We got some kind of purple pork, rose dumpling things, The beef Wellington Curry, and some kind of duck dish.
Just wow, got the dumplings, salad and it’s all that’s come out so far and already putting 5 stars because it’s the best dumpling and Thai salad I’ve had IN MY LIFE. Exceptional. Did all chefs choice
Fun and interesting menu items.

This is one of the best Thai restaurants in Portland. The food was great and the services was excellent.
We live just up the road from this spot. Out neighbors suggested we try it & we finally got around to. I can’t believe we hadn’t been sooner. Honestly this entire meal just made my month. The drinks were insanely good, the dumplings to die for, the pork in my entree just continued to get better with each bite. My partner got the special Beef Wellington & I have no words for how delicious that was. Finally we order BOTH desserts because why the heck not. Let’s just say I’m going to bed with a full tummy & a happy heart! We will be back!!!!!

This place is amazing. Every dish is phenomenal, and the ambiance is on point. Definitely going to be one of my new regulars.
Great little spot for royal Thai! The dumplings are the star - beautiful and delicious. Our group enjoyed everything we ordered. Just make sure to get a reservation!
The food here is phenomenal and the owner / chef is also just a lovely person. We are so lucky to have this neighborhood gem close by.
My friend decided to continue my acquaintance with exotic restaurants. This time he took me to Siam Umami. It was definitely a very pleasant experience. I have never tried such delicious Thai dishes anywhere!
What a lovely place. The food is fantastic.
Exceptional food and service.
Superb one of the best flavor any restaurant in a long time plus excellent service
Delicious and fresh. Great portions. Highly recommended.

Hidden Gem! This is our go to, we eat here often and it never disappoints. The food is incredible, and the staff top tier. Highly recommended.
This place is incredible. We just moved into the neighborhood and I can see us coming back to this place regularly. The service was quick and friendly, the food is exquisite, and the portion sizes are large enough that you feel full without overdoing it. I would highly recommend it.
EAT HERE! This is the BEST Thai food I have ever had. The flavors are so superb and the energy of the restaurant is perfect. My wife and I enjoyed EVERY dish, which all had unique and distinct features. The owner/chef, the servers, and the atmosphere all made for an OUTSTANDING experience.
After eating at multiple Thai restaurants in and around Portland I will continue coming to Siam as my FIRST choice. Tong the owner is a VERY talented chef and John is a high CLASS server who does his job well.
Do yourself a favor and go to SIAM UMAMI already!
My wife and I are already fighting over the leftovers!
I rarely write reviews but this place is EXQUISITE! I have never experienced Thai food that leaves me speechless but this gem of a restaurant left my husband and I ready to make Siam our weekly date night spot (and we rarely eat out). Do yourself a favor and support this restaurant. The owner is also the chef and he puts SO much love and intention into crafting each meal himself... (how does he do it?!) The flavors are next level and put traditional "Americanized" Thai dishes to shame. The service was outstanding and deserves a HUGE mention as our server, John, had the best energy/vibes, was super knowledgable about vegan dish options, and gave us endless sides of the spicy mint sauce that we absolutely devoured with our rice and chicken.
By eating here, you are supporting and giving reverence to the beautiful Thai culture in a real way, which I know is a value a lot of people in Portland share since restaurants can tend to dumb down and simplify authentic cultural cuisines. I wouldn't recommend any of the dishes because every single one is five stars - try them all.
Our server was so helpful explaining the dishes. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious!
We happened on this place but will definitely be back. Everything was perfectly balanced.
An absolute neighborhood gem!! I wish I lived here because I would be back at least once a week for the Chor Muang (Royal Flower dumpling). The flavors were big, and each dish has a special connection to the Thai cuisine, and the owner is so kind and personable sharing his vision behind the dishes.
Super delicious!
Best service & unique beautiful food
An exceptional experience from start to finish. The Chor Muang is delicious and beautiful as is the Kao Mok Gai. Everyone else at my table's food was also top-notch. Drinks are also on another level, I recommend the boozy thai tea and the Mango Smiles. Will absolutely be coming here again, what a gem!
So delicious. Everything was incredible. Go here!
What a fabulous restaurant, beautiful environment, great staff, remarkable food, and so much more!

Overall very good service and amazing dishes.
Really unique and flavorful dishes and drinks!
Unique and delicious food, which also is beautiful to look at. Prepared with great care by the chef-owner. I am so lucky to live only a 20-minute walk from this neighborhood treasure. Service was kind, helpful and attentive. They made sure my order went in ahead of a huge group that was seated before me, a nice touch. Also when I arrived they didn't ask "JUST ONE?" as too many places do (Um yeah, I am enough. Would you say "Just Two?") they smiled, said hi, and asked how many in my party. Will return, and very soon.
In the sea of Thai options around Portland, Siam Umami stands out. The food at Siam Umami is simply amazing and unique compared to any Thai restaurant I have experienced. Each dish is carefully made with fresh ingredients and a perfect balance of flavors.
The "Royal" appetizer Chor Muang is a delightful take on a traditional pork dumpling, with a bright purple-blue color. The flavor contrasts fresh pork with salty chopped peanuts, providing a satisfying crunch against the tender ground pork.
The green curry Chicken Roulade was brightly flavored and fresh, while the Cod in the Orchard featured a perfectly cooked filet with a light, summery sauce. The Thai teas were all fresh and not overly sweet, with the Thai tea with lime becoming a new favorite.
The staff here are fantastic – they greet you with a smile and are always ready to help, ensuring you have a great dining experience. Chef Tong was lovely to chat with, clearly passionate about serving quality food that highlights Thai cuisine. He has dreams of introducing fusion dishes, blending his heritage with his professional experience in French cuisine.
Note that the menu is restricted, so don't come expecting all the usual Thai standbys. With a small kitchen, they focus on a limited menu of six entrees, prioritizing quality over quantity.
Siam Umami may be a bit on the pricier side, but the quality of the food and the excellent service make it worth every penny. Each visit feels like a special occasion, and you’ll find yourself looking forward to coming back.
A modern take on Thai food. Delicious and elevated.
This was the best (Thai) food I ever had.
Unique menu items and incredibly delicious. I'm my top three Thai experiences in America
Food was excellent! Cute little restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed the salmon - just right spicy.
Stopped by on the way back go CA, and figured it would be a good place to get takeout from. The word “good” does not do it justice; the food, service, attention to detail EVERYTHING was great. I wished I would have gotten double the food.
Food is unique and savory. Very good Thai food!
Everything we had was so good. Carefully crafted flavors. Recommend trying the royal dumplings, and their curry was exceptional.

Delicious highly flavorful

Siam Unami is an experience that is reminiscent of what Langbann USED to be. While the flavor profile is defiantly Thai, it is elegant This. It is a small space that allows for a lively interaction with the staff and chef. The presentations are bright and visually engaging. The Brussels sprout salad was perfectly cooks and full of umami! The mains were all perfect, from the shrimp to the port. While the taro flan was interesting to some in the party, I guess taro is an acquired taste to others. This is not you “ Americanized” or typical Pad Thai restaurant if that is what you are looking for.
So so good!! Everything is incredibly delicious and the owner is very kind. We got the Chor Muang, Chor Chaba, Khao Mak Gai, and Coconut Water Braised Pork Belly. Seriously some of the best Thai food we've had in the city. It's not your typical Thai food dishes like Pad Thai or Pad See Ew so if you're expecting that, you won't find those here. Instead you'll find scrumptious dishes once served to Thai royalty!
Wow what a gem!!! Absolutely insanely delicious food. I’ve been 4 times and can’t get enough. My gluten free friends LOVED it and so did my eats everything boyfriend. Wonderful service. Awesome desserts. I love the duck and the mushroom noodles! Must try!
Amazing in every way. Will be back often.
The food was so good. Great dishes with unique flavors. The staff was so friendly and nice. This is one of my favorite places in Portland now.
This place is AMAZING!!! Everything was absolute perfection! 5 stars is not enough. The drinks and food are incredible and the service was first class. I was shocked at how affordable it was too. Such a gem --- can't wait to go back next time I'm in Portland. Cheers!
Absolutely delicious!!!
Loved our first meal at Siam Umami. Hidden gem, great food and service.
SO damn good!! Excellent service and great instructions for take out. LOVED it!!
Had the Chor Muang and Chor Chaba. Exceptionally pretty colors. They were pasty, in texture. If it’s supposed to be that way then they nailed it. Flavors were unremarkable, there was fish and , if I hadn’t been told, an unidentifiable meat paste, with maybe some chopped nuts? A small eatery, with hard seats. It’s right in a neighborhood so street parking is challenging, and there was no parking lot I could find. If you live in walking distance yeah fine, give it a go. But if you have to drive, at least for the chor…eh.
Amazing everything: drinks, appetizers, main courses, and service.
The meats in the mains were cooked very moist and tender. The accompanying sauces are very Southeast Asian.
Our server took the time to explain a bit about the kind of royal Thai cuisine and inspirations for their menu items.
High quality, creative, and delicious Thai food. A cute little restaurant with a dedicated owner who puts his heart into his cooking. If you're looking for fine Thai food that goes beyond the usual pad thai fare this is the place.
Wow! This place is truly amazing! I live in the neighborhood and finally made my way in out of curiosity due to it always having patrons in the establishment. Hands down my favorite Thai food experience in Portland yet. The food is phenomenal and staff were extremely friendly and personable. I got the duck curry and my partner got the pork belly. I will definitely be returning cause I need to have the whole menu.
Absolutely amazing and unique Thai dishes! The duck was incredible. Phenomenally talented chef, who is also attentive to his customers. Service was excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. Be sure to try the appetizers as they are unlike anything you’ve ever had elsewhere. Agree with another reviewer who deemed this worthy of a Michelin star.
Great service, unforgettable palate of flavors in our meals and cocktails. A+
Wonderful food and drinks! A cozy, romantic place for dinner. The mushroom noodle dish was sublime!
Not even through dessert and I know it’s going to be amazing. Some of the best flavors and perfectly cooked food I’ve ever eaten. Many gf options too!
***WOW***
This is one of the only restaurants I’ve been to where I actually said out loud “OH MY LORD” upon tasting!!! The pork belly dish was absolutely PHENOMENAL!! I’ve been to many restaurants in the general Portland vicinity and NONE compares to the authenticity.
DEFINITELY recommend!! Drinks were amazing as well.
The price was more than reasonable!! Waiter was great and the owner/chef came out to greet and chat.
Overall great place to go for a fabulous dinner.
Wow! Food is freaking amazing. I had the coconut water braised pork and my wife had the duck .... Buckle down when you come here because it's fantastic!!
Oh my gosh!!! We cannot say enough good things about this place. Best meal I’ve had in the entire PNW. The service was the icing on the cake absolutely spectacular. Very attentive to detail, and literal flavor bombs going off from the first bite to the last. This place should have months long waiting list with how great it is. I never write reviews but I had to after this experience.
I’m lucky enough to live right across the street from this place. Phenomenal food and friendly people. Nice, quaint atmosphere. Highly recommend.
This place deserves more recognition. Haven’t had food this outstanding and original in a very long time, we will be back!
Amazing all around!!
It’s been nearly 2 years now and absolutely time to leave a review. Whenever my wife and I are coming through Portland we’ve been blown away by quality of food. Tonight we had the Duck Curry, new on the menu. It was absolutely delicious and a steal at the price!
This is easily one of our favorite restaurants in the NW. If you are in the area I couldn’t suggest a better restaurant in Portland.
Skip Langbaan and come here instead! Very well regarded in the Thai restaurateur community, this talented chef is serving up delicious bites in every dish. This isn't your typical pad Thai place (not that there's anything wrong with that), this is the kind of food that could be considered fine dining in Thailand, offering familiar flavors in an elevated format. People that know how hard it is to find this kind of Thai food, done this well, will go out of their way to visit. Don't skimp on their delicious appetizers (especially the chor muang and chor chaba). If we had to pick other favorites it would be the yum som (salad) and the duck curry and salmon entrees, as well as the taro brule dessert. Excellent cocktails as well.
siam umami highlights the characteristics of royal thai cuisine: best ingredients from the northwest, well balanced flavors & beautiful presentation.
probs one of the best places to get thai food in portland imo!! would give more than 5 stars if I could.
they have a small menu, so it makes choosing what to get easier. but I'll be going back to try more!
highlights for me were the taro crème brûlée and the pork belly. crème brûlée was not too sweet & the perf the way to end the meal. pork belly was tender & the whipped coconut is incredible!!
Duck curry. Hands down, best restaurant dish 2023.
Fantastic flavors in a cozy spot. Great happy hour pricing and lovely service. Adding this to the top date night destinations!
This place is a gem! A real standout in Portland's creative food/restaurant scene.
By far the best dining experience in Portland! Everything that Tong and his staff does is incredible from the craft cocktails by John to the beyond delicious curated food items that have more flavor and intention that deserves to be Michelin Star rated. Consider wowing your guests away and book the spot for a private event!
Amazing food and delicious drinks! The dumplings are by far the best I've ever eaten. We will be back!
Great little neighborhood joint
I had a pork dish that was delicious. Great service. Wonderful ambiance - perfect lighting, quiet, great place to catch up with a friend.
Great cocktails! Amazing food!
This lovely restaurant is in our neighborhood and we've been eating here a couple of times a month since they opened. Everything is delicious but we especially love the Chor Muang and Khan Mok Gai.
Tong has put together one of the best restaurants in the NW. It has been an absolute pleasure coming in weekly not only for the fantastic Royal Thai cuisine but John makes amazing well balanced cocktails as well. I honestly don’t know of a better place to send people to in Portland!
All I can say is wow!
…I guess I can say a bit more. I felt like we stumbled across a Michelin Star restaurant that no one knew about yet. The owner/chef only has about 20 things on the menu and we tried a third of them. Each was so flavorful, yet unique and the prices were quite reasonable - especially for the food quality.
The ambiance was intimate in this quaint little space. The whole experience was top notch. This is going on my short list as places to visit again, which is impressive amongst the gastronomic treasure trove of Portland.
Great food !
Food, service, atmosphere and price - all superb.
We are thrilled to find this in the neighborhood. Get the dumplings! Each one is a work of art and with amazing flavors. Authentic!
Absolute GEM. My new favorite place in Portland. Super unique twist on Thai food flavors. Taste was matched by intentional presentation. John and Tom are friendly and make me want to come back for happy hour to hang out in the intimate atmosphere. Food was fresh, savory, sweet, spicy, and floral. Make a reservation asap, you won't regret it.
Absolutely delicious food! Great vegetarian & pescatarian options and a unique, exquisite cocktail menu! The service is always fantastic and the atmosphere is so quaint and familiar. I couldn’t recommend this place any more highly!
I'm the next door neighbor! Love this place.
Highly recommend.
This place deserves its perfect 5-star rating. The chef-owner presents a selection of rare traditional Thai dishes that are only seen on special occasions in Thailand (like the handmade Royal floral dumplings) and a combination of his unique creations you won’t find at any other Thai restaurant (like the pork belly over coconut whipped potatoes). Truly a lovely neighbor gem that always has a seat waiting for you in its cozy indoor atmosphere or outside on an idyllic tree-lined street.
AMAZING food. You will not be disappointed.
Wow! Wow! And WOW! Soooooo good. I had the Krathong Tong (crispy cups)…. Delicious! I had the corn salad which is a spin off of a papaya salad… a little bit on the spicy side, but freaking awesome! The stuffed zucchini was fantastic… definitely get coconut mashed potatoes! The coconut crème brûlée is a hybrid brûlée and custard. The tamarind sour is ON POINT!!! So so so good and worth every penny. Definitely go!
Amazing food. One of the best meals I’ve had in Portland ever. Highly recommend. We had the Chor Muang, Khao Mok Gai, pork belly and stuffed zucchini. Every dish was phenomenal, so flavorful. Didn’t have any drinks but they looked great, can’t wait to try them when we go back.
An incredible little restaurant! The food was delicious and unique, the service was fast, friendly, and attentive, and the chef even checked in with us to see how we were enjoying everything! You can feel the chef's love of food and his culture in every bite. 😊 Reasonably priced for such a special experience. A must dine experience!
Food was amazing and the owner was very nice! The dumplings were fantastic!
Completely understand why this place has 5 starts after visiting. The food is delicious and unique, cocktails were amazing, service was A+, and somehow it was still affordable and unpretentious. I’d easily come here for a date night or to show visiting family around town.
This place is a gem. Nestled in a cute residential neighborhood, the food really is deserving of the 5 stars. Both the food and the drinks were so flavorful and well thought out! We’ll definitely be back.
Everything I have tried at this place is ridiculously delicious. I want to try it all!! It blows my mind there isn’t fighting for parking. It should be one of those restaurants you can’t get a reservation. So I will eat there as much as possible before it is that way.
I love Thai food and this is one of the most unique and creative Thai restaurants I've ever tried. From the cocktails to the entrees, everything was fresh, inventive, and delicious! I had the Thai basil gimlet cocktail. It was as beautiful as it was tasty (see photo). For dinner I started with the Chor Muang Royal flower dumplings and then had the Stuffed Anaheim Gang Keaw Wan for an entree. Both dishes had complex layers of flavor from the fresh ingredients and spices. I will definitely be back.
So I saw this place on Google maps and I decided to try it. I love Thai food and while I am not the definitive authority on it, I do know the difference between authentic and good Thai food from those who are not. This place nailed it. From the price to the atmosphere to the service I was left pleased at every turn. I would come again any day of the week and I would recommend this restaurant be on your list of places to try while in Portland.
Wonderful attention to detail and a rich tapestry of flavors in every dish. Will definitely be back!
Incredible.
I was blown away by the service, food, and atmosphere. While here we had the flower dumplings, a perfect appetizer, and then the pork belly and the braised beef.
Easily the best meal I've had in weeks. I'm grateful to live so close to such a wonderful restaurant.
The flavors are so unique and deliciously combined they will haunt your memory for days.
The Golden Cup appetizer is a great light starter with a cocktail.
There’s a reason it’s all 5-stars. Really good.
This place is consistently amazing, some of the best food in Portland. Do yourself a favor and check them out!
Great drinks spot! Nice atmosphere and great service. Our waitress Adelaide was phenomenal! Didn’t get any food but everything looked great

Delish!
Impressed! I saw the 5 star Google reviews and the mention on Eater, but was not expecting it to be this good. Excellent service, fantastic food, can’t wait to go back!
What a delightful explosion of flavor! Fresh interesting and perfectly prepared Royal Thai cuisine. Rarely can you eat food so carefully crafted for less than $20 a plate. Perfect for small groups or date night.
Incredible new location for royal thai. Wonderful cocktails.
What an amazing meal. Super authentic Thai and seasonal food. My wife and I can’t wait to return and bring friends/fam!!
The food, cocktails are great along with the staff. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.
Waoh! This is a totally unique Thai experience. The time that goes into making all the dishes and the diversity of what they offer is amazing. The food is complex and so, so good. The ownership and team are super sweet and take great pride in what they offer. I cannot wait to go back.
Just had a wonderful dinner at Siam Umami. We had Pork Siu Mai (steamed dumplings) for an appetizer and for entrees we had Khao Mok Gai and Pork Belly Braised in Coconut Water. The food was wonderful and the service was great. Thanks for a delightful meal. We'll be back.
Everything was DELICIOUS! There were 3 of us and we each ordered a different entrée along with a cocktail and an appetizer. It was ALL good. Cute and cozy place for a wonderful meal and some great drinks. We’ll definitely be visiting again and again.
Our daughter has been recommending Siam Umami to us for a few months. Recently, the family met there for my birthday dinner. The fantastic dishes and great service did not disappoint! The 6 of us tried several appetizers, specialty cocktails, and various entrees. All of us were instantly planning return visits. The flavors packed into every dish I tried were amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more.
Amazing!!!!!! I don’t normally leave any review but food was amazing and the drinks great!!!!
Unique experience , every dish was actually delicious. Solid service and you could still taste unique flavors several minutes after taking a bite. Actually lives up to the 5 stars at the time of this review.
The chef is fantastic at combining flavors. The stuffed pepper with green curry was amazing. The stuffed zucchini would delight vegetarians, and the pork belly would satisfy any meat lover. Their sauce are expertly paired. The house cocktails are creative and refreshing. All that in an informal place with attentive service, minimal waiting and reasonable prices. Finding all that in one place is hard these days. Our new favorite restaurant to impress foodie friends or have a date night!
The cocktails and appetizers are amazing - unique and delicious. And John and the owner are so nice. Will be checking out the regular menu soon.
Novel, creative, delicious, pleasant, satiating.
Delicious surprises. Wonderful experience. Unlike any other restaurant I’ve been to.
Amazing food and friendly staff!
One of the best meals I have eaten in a long time. Everything was delicious and presented beautifully. Can't wait to try other items from the menu.
Amazing food, cute place, fun drinks. In the residential tree-lined Lair Hill neighborhood. I’ll be back!
Wow! If you are looking for exquisite Thai food (not at all the usual) try Siam Umami on Corbett Ave. Our party of four absolutely loved every item we ordered. Amazing flavor combinations, excellent service, and quite reasonable for how special it was! They have a nice bar too. Worth a trip outside your normal circle if you don't live nearby.
Could not have had a better experience.
Every single dish was amazing. We can’t stop talking about this place since we left. Definitely gonna come back for more. Especially the pork belly dish.
Not your usual American style Thai restaurant, but a wonderful assortment of options you may not be familiar with. We've eaten there twice and will gladly return. There are also some excellent small plate happy hour items. Please support our local small business owners.
I’ll be dreaming about the coconut water braised pork for the coming weeks… and I don’t even really like coconut typically. Delicious!
Amazing food and great service! I can’t wait to eat here again 😊
A great surprise to find this creative restaurant on Corbett Ave. The food was packed with flavor and colorfully presented! A specialized menu with a few attractive items. Everything we ordered was superb. Give it a try if you are in the area . Very friendly team of people working here.
Everything was amazing and exquisitely prepared! It’s ok there’s no regular Thai standards on the menu, really!
Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. A wonderful little gem in the neighborhood.
Wow! Siam Umami is a hidden gem. Every dish live up to the umami in the name and each is unique in flavor and taste. Chef and Owner Tong takes amazing dishes and elevates them to culinary art. Everydish and beverage is so well thought out. Siam Umami is a MUST TRY!!!
A true treat to the palate. Thank you Tong!
Delicious, fresh and flavorful. Service is very friendly. This is a hidden gem worth trying.
Food was great tasting and staff was friendly and knowledgeable
Place was clean
Absolutely amazing!!! Best Thai food my husband and I have ever had and that includes in Thailand. The chef is a genius ☺️ And the prices are REALY good for the quality of meal you are getting. This place will be hard to get a table at once the word spreads, mark my word.
Fantastic food and fantastic service. It's a real "Find" in Portland
Clean and comfortable I would give the overall rating of 7 stars,
But I can only give 5 stars
Try the appetizers and dessert you will enjoy every bite.
My gf and I have lived in the Portland metro area our whole lives, but she recently moved into downtown proper so we're trying to find a new set of restaurants to make our go-tos. We picked Siam Umami's from the google list of "Thai restaurants" and we couldn't be more satisfied we came here. Both of our dishes were amazing, her ordering the Salmon Three Flavors and me the Khao Mok Gai. While the menu isn't what one would typically expect from a Thai place, the masterful and unique blend of spice, flavor, and excellent cooking left a lasting impression, I seriously can't think of the last time I've eaten chicken or salmon that was both so perfectly melt-in-your-mouth tender and so impactfully well tasting. I wasn't halfway through my meal and was already excited to come back to try a different plate. I couldn't more strongly recommend that everyone in the Portland area needs to eat here at least once, as this was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time.
Went here for a date night with my girlfriend and dinner was absolutely perfect! We were surprised to learn there was a happy hour until 6pm and the restaurant had just started serving drinks a few days ago. She ordered the house version of the bees knees cocktail and it was so good she ordered a second. I got an adult version of a Thai iced tea which had a salty coconut foam which made the drink off the charts delicious. We had the pork siu mai and krathong tong dumplings as appetizers, as well as the Khao mok gai and pork belly for mains. No complaints about anything, it was all super tasty and plated very beautifully.
They may not serve pad thai but who cares you can get that anywhere, this food is worth coming across town for. Luckily I live in the neighborhood so definitely will be coming back. Also. I have food allergies and they were great about checking to make sure what i wanted to get was safe for me to eat. Now they just need to print out their drink menu, our server was struggling to remember what some of the house drinks were. But I think they'll get that figured out pretty soon.
Tldr, there's still a few kinks as the restaurant is still getting fully running, but the food and drinks are absolutely top notch. Just go, your taste buds will thank you.
My partner and I came here with some friends and we were all so impressed with the food here. Everything was delicious, unique, and flavorful. John and Thanh (spelling?) both gave excellent service and were fun to chat with! We can’t wait to come back.
Complex flavors, unique dishes. Everything from appetizers to dessert was amazing
Whether you love Thai food in America, or you don’t think you like it, you HAVE to come here! Fantastically executed dishes that will expand your perception of Thai food, with bright flavors that don’t lean on sugar and coconut milk. This food really celebrates the flavors, textures, and variety of Thai cuisine- there’s something for everyone. The Service is kind and attentive, and the space is intimate. Can’t wait to go back!
friendly service - delicious food
The flavors were super unique and delicious. Definitely going back.
The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious!! They don’t have what you think of typical Thai dishes, but the food is very tasty. I’ve gone twice now and hope to go back again soon.
Very unique take on Thai cuisine in a quaint neighborhood of Portland. These flavors aren’t what you usually thing of when you go to a Thai spot…. Pad Thai, pad se ew, red curry, yellow curry, they don’t have any of that.
Instead the chef has chosen to go with a simple menu with very bold flavors, no holding back on the spice here but each plate is perfectly balanced and just enough to make you want one more bite after the first. Beautiful, colorful plates are what you’ll find here along with friendly wait staff, would definitely recommend coming here again! Can’t wait until they get there liquor license I’m sure they have some great ideas brewing up behind the bar.
