Spiced-to-order noodles, curries & more provided in a bright-orange dining room.
Upon first walking into this place you're placed in a weird interim area where they have placed plastic folding tables to keep people from going into the dining area?
I rang the bell to get service and someone came somewhat promptly. Sat me and shortly asked if I was ready. I wasn't, which there was no issue with.
I asked when ordering if I could get some food for my friends to go once im done. She insisted I order it now so she that I could pay and she could cook the food. Slightly inconvenient for me, as I was planning on texting them and asking what they wanted. But it was mostly fine honestly and I get it. So I just got them 3 things that looked good on the menu.
My food arrives and noticeably it is very, very watery. There is still some decent spices kicking around in there but just awful meat and vegetable quality. Seriously really bad.
I continue my meal and cannot help but overhear the only other customer in the place having a very bizarre issue. She isn't being allowed to use the bathroom until she pays for the meal. Clearly this is because the only lady in the store is back there helping with the food if not cooking it entirely herself. She gives her card over expecting to be able to use the restroom, but now has to deal with the payment. Eventually it gets sorted.
Overall I just got really weird vibes and treated nor very hospitably. I don't think the lady was that personally rude. Just insanely understaffed. Again, the food was really bad quality as well. Super dry chicken, really watery curry. Not worth going to.
Went in on a Friday night. The place was empty and had absolutely no heating in the dining room. Too cold to eat in, so we ordered out. I ordered chicken pad Thai. Upon opening at home there was a big lump of noodles in the middle of the tray with a few peanuts dumped on one end, and on the other end a small amount of tofu (no chicken!). All very bland and tasteless. Never again!
I come here frequently and the food is always delicious! I love the pineapple fried rice and tofu salad rolls. The folks who work here are always nice and service is quick. The atmosphere is welcoming and authentic, highly recommend!
We found this restaurant on Grubhub and wanted to give it a go because it was close to our house. Well, the food was pretty bad & had no flavor.
In fact, it was the worse Thai I ever had. How can any Thai restaurant mess up a yellow curry dish??? Don’t waste your money.
Ordered vegetable Massaman curry. Extremely watery, and a tiny quantity of vegetables for $16. I got maybe 3 pieces of potato, and mostly cabbage. The flavors are good, but I'm severely disappointed by this meal. I see that others also got runny curry, so this isn't a one-off. If you like soupy curry and don't eat much, this might be your place. Otherwise, the other Thai places in the area serve great, filling curry.
The food looked good but terrible customer service. I found a piece of metal in the food and when I told the staff there was no apology, no interest in seeing what fell in the food, and instead I was yelled at when I departed. They need to check their practices and learn about customer service.

Good food and great owner! Repeat customer here

Horrible service and food wasn’t good either. Will never come here again if I could give it a 0 star review I would.
This place always gives me bad vibes and services.
Will never come back.
Just bad service in general

I love Thai and I’m not super picky but this was really bad. The lettuce in my spring rolls didn’t seem fresh as there were bits that were browning. Also the pad Thai tasted burnt and was super dry—basically just noodles. The meat was also over cooked. Really disappointed I spent over $20 on this 😟
such kind staff! i came at 3:43 because i didn’t see their hours. i was planning to come back at 4 (when they open) but she flagged me down and made me come inside! she was so kind, the food was amazing and i’ll definitely be returning!
Very Welcoming, Relaxful!🤗
Basil fried rice was a bit spicier than expected but still good. The house special curry cut it nicely.
The Thai pancake dessert is to die for, you must try it. (And in my opinion is underpriced at $4)
Stopped in for lunch and had Pad See Ew. Some of the tastiest noodles I've ever had in PDX. Home Thai cooking at its best. This will be on my regular lunch rotation.
Edit on Sept 26, 2023: I took my roommate to Moonlight and she ordered a curry and couldn't eat it because it was too sweet. My dish of prawns and veggies was wonderful. Serina, (the chef/waiter/owner?) was devastated and forcibly insisted that she will send my roommate home with some of her soup. Now my roommate is a trained chef that worked at a Michelin starred establishment and makes all her chicken stock from scratch. She got home with Sarina's glass noodle soup and was blown away. I mean she hasn't stopped talking about the flavor and the balance for two days now.
So I had left my debit card at Moonlight and had to swing by today and pick it up. I let Serina know how impressed my roommate was and how we both were very impressed on how she defended her cooking. Needless to say, this is now our place to go for Thai. Sarina was unwilling to let someone leave her establishment unsatisfied. She explained why her curry was that way (American pallet and a to go delivery culture.) We suspect that this is a one woman operation and mostly geared to take out. To dine in she moves a table in front so you can access the seating area. If you do dine in, she is very attentive and personable.
Anyway, go there and let Sarina know what you want. She will serve you something to make you happy or wrestle to the ground until she can find something that will.
NEW OWNERS! New Name. Moonlight Thai.
This place has excellent food! Come try it!
Loved this place. It was quite empty and Serena the owner was on point with service, friendliness and the food was delicious. We had the chicken satay, the spring rolls. Pad Kee Mow (beef) and the Tom yum noodle. Which I ordered as a 2 and it was toooo spicy.
Serena took it back and fixed it up smiling the entire time. Refreshing. Definitely will visit again. #hiddengemportland #thaiportland
Wrost Thai food and service ever!
Ordered pickup. Got the pad see ew which had no color or sauce. Also got the house special curry which was good but pretty watery.
Stopped in to get a Thai Iced Tea, as I didn't have enough time to order food. I am vegan, so I asked them to switch to coconut milk for me, and it came served in the cute little cup hanger. It is DELICIOUS. Thanks for the cool treat on a hot afternoon. Will definitely be back to try the food very soon!
Kind service, it just not taste very flavorful. We got about 5 different dishes, and none of it was very good. We eat Thai all the time and divided to find another spot but we were pretty disappointed.
My son & I live close & have been meaning to check this place out for over two years now, finally the stars aligned & we had the right moods, time & budget to eat here. My seven year old was so excited about their mock meat options & I’ve never seen him enjoy a meal at a restaurant more than tonight’s dinner there. Was very easy to order & make sure everything was vegan, that’s worth five stars alone right there. We got pad Thai with the soy chicken, sweet & sour with the soy shrimp & green curry with soy chicken. I really liked everything, & I really loved that my son did too. We ate our fill & took home enough for us both to make another meal out of our order too. I’m writing this review because my son wanted to be sure everyone knew how good the place is. We will definitely be making up for lost time & visiting more frequently now.
They made a dish custom ordered for me and I knew in just one sip ,I took one sip and I said yup, yup they know what there doing here..
Have been multiple
Times and each time is pretty bad. And our last time time my partner even found a bug in her food.
amazing service and food!
Very good. They look like they don't do dine in, but just tell them and they do :)
Cozy restaurant, great food, great service, and great people. You should try it
Food was cold and hair in my food
I've been on a green curry bender for the last couple months. This is some of the best I've had in Portland! So Delicious! I Love the green bean and zucchini used for extra veggies. Also the salad roll was delicious! MMMM Grateful to enjoy such delicious food made with love. Thank You 💚🙏
back on North-side and was anxious to visit local places. And, I have no problem paying for extras that I choose but at least make it worth the price.
The food was ok, but the vegetable soup had no spice/flavor to it. Additionally I had paid extra for extra egg and veggies and did not receive either. My dish was supposed to have chicken and shrimp and there were only 2 shrimp in the entire dish,
we did not realize and my partner ate both so I did not even get to try it. I would not recommend nor would I try again. I spent over $45 for basic fried rice and bland soup.
I don't know the last time I experienced such warm service and hospitality. The salad rolls were fresh, the wontons were crispy, and the red curry was the perfect amount of spicy and sweet. They were having the interior painted and they still welcomed us in, and even gave us a mango sticky rice (my favorite dessert)!
The food was great, but the service is what will bring me back!
I love the pineapple fried rice 🍍🍚 😋 it's a little spicy, but so good.
This used to be a wonderful family owned place, called Thai Food cafe. The landlord displaced the family and basically tried to take over their clientele. Just another form of cultural appropriation and gentrification. Do not eat here, there are hundreds of other Thai options.
The portions are so small. I ordered the Panang curry which came with a tiny bowl of rice. It tasted good but I got 4 pieces of tofu with about 3 green beans. My friend ordered the basil fried rice with chicken and paid extra for an additional protein of tofu. She got to pieces of tofu. We were still hungry after eating an appetizer and main course. Neither of us are big eaters.
Friendly service, tasty food, big portions.
Loved this spot! Staff was friendly and there were so many vegan options, even a vegan fish oil for the papaya salad which was delicious. I do not recommend if you do not like spicy but the kick was worth it. The Evil Jungle Noodles dish was also 👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks for taking care of us! 💖
Food was good, but very expensive for main dish and a side. 35$ for pick up. Also a disappointed that I got only 4pieces of tofu regular sized cubes. Wanted payment over the phone for pick up order, but never offered a total. Honestly wouldn’t have ordered if I had asked for a total.
Super disappointing. We found this place because of it's 5-star review here, so I have to weigh in that this place sucks. We ordered three entrees for three people that required rice, and they gave us one tiny container of rice - so we ended up having to cook dinner for ourselves anyway, which defeats the point of take-out. Also, the vegetable beef stir-fry was mostly cabbage, with like two tiny pieces of broccoli and barely any meat. The yakisoba was ok, but small portions and barely any chicken. And our Massaman curry was watery and had no taste, which I guess was fine because we didn't have any rice to put it over anyhow. Very annoying. Oh, but they did appear to spend a lot of money on very sturdy plastic to-go containers. Thanks, but we'd rather have the actual food ingredients. We won't be going back.
Gutes Essen, schade: es funktioniert nur Abholung…
I ordered food for pickup and the order was all wrong. Everything I ordered was cold. Two items were missing sides and one was just completely the wrong thing. The one thing that was supposed to be cold was OK. I called to ask for some money back because I live 20 minutes away and couldn’t drive back. So they said they would refund some money… when I checked they sent me $3.00 back on a $50 order. Which didn’t even cover the missing food. And the $3.00 has to be used at their store. Which since I’m not going back, that’s no help. Idk. They were nice at the store and I understand sometimes everyone makes mistakes. But the $3.00 actually was the worst part because I figured “well at least they fixed the problem.” There are tons of great restaurants in Portland and great Thai options, so I’m certainly not going back there.
The spring rolls were good, the Pad Thai was sweeter than I prefer.
Descent setting with excellent service and good food. I recommend the chicken noodle; I get it almost every time! The vegan options are great as well. Love the vegan steak with the pineapple fried rice. Yum!
Update: the sweet couple that owned it when I wrote the review has since sold. It isn’t the same; the same care in making the food seemed to be missing. I will say however it was right after the change over so maybe they needed time to get it together. The food wasn’t bad just not the best.
The crab Puffs are not worth anything. I got the and there was almost no filler of any sort wast of food, money and time.
I did get port fried rice which was good and an ok amount of meat!
I ordered delivery and I received the wrong order. I called them and they were unwilling to help make it right. I wouldn’t order delivery from them ever again!
I ordered yellow curry with chicken and was charged that price but I received tofu instead. Ridiculous. Don’t order from them.
Drab atmosphere. I felt sick after the meal.
Good food
Thai food is a comfort food and nothing cant go wrong with it. highly recommended
This place doesn't know how to cook tofu, the flavour and spice is lame. 3 pieces of brocolli( that's the only veggie in the dish, pad sa eww)
Tons of noodles stuck together with zero sauce(after asking for extra). Dont order from here if vegan or vegetarian.
Great and super clean Restaurants
I like it keep it up
Gave me the wrong dish then blamed me for returning it. No comp or refund.
my new favorite thai spot. they have the best peanut sauce I've ever tried. nothing I ordered tasted like boxed/whatever mix. the chicken sate was so tender and the broth from the veggie delight didn't taste overly sweet. box flavor and overly sweet sauce are my deal breakers and it's refreshing to find a place that doesn't serve that stuff!
plus their covid precautions are *chef's kiss*
The quality has definitely lowered since going under new ownership. Twice I ordered their fried wong tongs with chicken and both times - no chicken, they were all hallow. Tonight, I went with my usual order of 7 years - house special curry - it was disappointing. I hope things get better for them. I miss the old owners but they were getting old were and in risk during this pandemic.
I just ordered (12/6) a yellow curry and potstickers. The potstickers were decent. The yellow curry which is supposed to come with potatoes, onions and carrots came with CABBAGE, carrots and BROCCOLI. Sad my usual go to for curry was closed. The sauce is good so 2 stars. Definitely won’t be back if one entree can’t be prepared properly/how the menu says it will come. But not sure if the lesson here was to never order here unless you want a surprise meal, or don’t order here later in the evening. They may just throw stuff in to something you didn’t order.
Always a pleasure coming here, very kind management and a great selection of entrees!
New name, new review... The Thai Café WAS the Best Thai we'd found in PDX(5*).
Moonlight Thai's staff is very nice and they have vegan / vegetarian options... That's about all, other than the address, they have in common with the old place...
The food wasn't dreadful, but it wasn't (IMHO) Thai. If someone had told me the soup was from a Mexican restaurant I'd've believed it. The rest was akin to that... I've had Thai that tasted Vietnamese or Chinese but this really didn't taste Asian even.
2* because the food quality seemed good and they seem nice... If they end up with another cuisine we might give them a try. But as Thai food? No.
As a side note: My digestion is pretty sensitive, I had no trouble at all at the old place... Here had my standard problems... I don't take stars off (unless my iron tummy spouse has trouble) for my gut because it's rare for a restaurant not to bother me... But since I made note of doing well at Thai Café figured I'd mention it.
Food was good, but its not under the Same owners. They answer the phone as if it was still the thai food cafe but its called moonlight cafe. So that thru us off. If youre expecting the same food thats been there for years with generous portions, it is no longer the same. Portions are significantly smaller.Took forever to get waited on, and there was no one dining except for my us. Didnt even offer anything to drink until 10-15 minutes in when we ordered. All in all, costumer service was eh but the food was pretty okay. Also I feel like answering the phone acting like it's the aame restaurant that was there is very shady...
Having eaten at both Thai Food Cafe (old owners) and now Moonlight Thai (current owners) I can say this is still my favorite Thai Food Restaurant in Portland! The quality of food is always amazing, their options are great and I am never disappointed by a meal from here. The small business owners are very friendly and doing an awesome job!
Amazing staff, super yummy food
Excellent service! Delicious food, prepared quickly enough for me to eat on my lunch break! Best pad Thai in Portland, hands down.
A wonderful family owned Thai restaurant. The service is friendly and fast. I usually get their Pad Kee Mao or Pad See Ew, never disappointed.
Food was really great, owners are super friendly! But, the place feels dingey and dirty, the bathroom especially. Not sure we'd personally go back to eat inside until the place gets a bit of a makeover and deep clean.
Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. And the soup is the BEST!
Excellent fried rice, and killer Thai coffee!
My wife and I loved coming here when we lived in Portland. Unlike so many places that have flare and no flavor, this place was good food, straight forward ambiance, and good people. It's run by a really sweet couple who obviously care about their livelihoods. Great place!
Best Thai food ever!
The people who work here are nice, but the fried rice is overcooked, mushy, and very bland. It wasn't actively "bad," more unmemorable, but I wouldn't buy it again.
Complimentary soup during lunch hours already makes this worth it. Lunch specials and cheap and plentiful and food still great and nicely priced during regular hours.
Great vibe and nice people. Their vegan soup is amazing. This place is so cute!
Decent Thai food, but not a must-try. They do have some good lunch specials if you need something fast and easy.
This is such a cute place, and the owners are very welcoming and sweet. We had the tom kha soup, pumpkin curry, and crab fried rice. The food was amazing! Best pumpkin curry I've ever had, and the fried rice and tom kha was so flavorful. Was a great experience, we will definitely be going back and telling everyone about this hidden treasure.
Vegetable curry, yummm...
Amazing Pad Thai!!! So good!
Cannot eat there again. I had Massaman Curry, and had a bad reaction to it, right after I began to eat it. Within minutes. Something was slimy like okra, and I was unclear what it was, because I have never experienced that before. I had to toss it.
I called today, to see if I could get the ingredients, to try to figure out what I was allergic to, and she would not give it to me. Very defensive. Said she has never had a problem in 11 years. I told her, I did not need recipe, just ingredients. She said come in to see her. Not sure when I will be back over there, unfortunately. I see great reviews and do not doubt that it is a good place but after that response, I will not try it again.
Very friendly place. Visiting from Seattle with my girlfriend, we both enjoyed the food and were surprised at the very good prices. Only thing is that they don’t tell you you have to pay up front, they don’t bring the bill. All around a really good place! If we were locals we’d be regulars
Best tai food to go !
I love their food and atmosphere. They take good care of their customers and create a relaxed, homey enviornment.
The best i will come back over and over again food and service was great. I will send others.
Decent portions and good flavor. The service in nice and they're very flexible with diet requests.
I wouldn't choose this as the best Thai food I've had around Portland, it's definitely on the greasy side. Decent food, but not incredible. The place was completely empty when we were there on a Sunday afternoon, which seemed wierd.
I will say, the prices are good.
Just what you’re looking for when eating lunch while studying.
Good, but not a 'wow'. Good prices. Food was good. Overly warm dining area. Too bad no beer sold.
Fun Little place to stop and eat.
Can't find their menu on the website. :/
Literally almost died of flavour. The avocado curry is soooooo good.
Love all the vegan options!
They give really generous amount of portions, it was delicious and the staffs were very polite.
If you like spicy food, these guys can accommodate!
Delicious food, personalized service with a smile!!!!
You can't beat their price for the fried rice or Kom pew soup. Service was helpful and the food tastes great.
Food was very good. Stands out from average priced Thai. Lovely owners! Great hole in the wall thai restaurant.
Pretty whitewashed version of Thai if ya ask me. Nice people bad cooks.
Everything is good
Good Thai food and generous servings. Expansive menu and fair prices. The only problem is that they're in a city with great Thai all over the place. Not crowded.
Food was mediocre. I ordered a vegetable pineapple fried rice, and there was only 2 pieces of pineapple and just carrots..no other vegetables.
At the end of the meal, one of the women working there pointed to my stomach, and said "ooh baby coming"..when in fact, I do not look pregnant nor am I pregnant. It was really not ok, and will not be coming back.
Very good
The people are the counter we’re very nice, how ever the pad Thai had clearly been made in a large batch, and had been sitting for hours. The noodles were over cooked and mushy and had little flavor. Maybe this place is better earlier in the day but I wouldn’t recommend it later on.
Best prices and vegan options in inner NE Portland
I attended PCC and ate here weekly. The food is amazing!! Authentic, hot, delicious, and prepared with love. I always get the Evil Jungle Noodles with chicken and pork potstickers. I've never had a complaint. I would certainly choose this place over any other thai place. Any day of the week. The family that owns and runs the restaurant is just a wonderful as their food. Sweet, kind, attentive, and friendly.
I have no real qualms with this establishment, but the quality of their food compared to other Thai restaurants is so subpar that I can't justify giving them more than two stars
Family owned Thai place. Great staff and customer service. Awesome servings.
My family and I have dining here for nearly 10 years. The food is always amazing. The owners are very sweet and treat us like family. We have celebrated many birthdays and graduation
Food is really good every time, lots of vegetarian options, and the folks who run it are really nice. Good prices for good portions too. Would definitely recommend if you're in the mood for Thai food.
lots of great food!
Best Tom Kha soup I've ever had. The owners are so kind and everything I've eaten here is amazing.
We enjoyed the family atmosphere.
Always yummy, prompt, and friendly! Great range of delicious vegan options and killer lunch specials
My favorite Thai place in oregon!!
Custom made to detailed tastes. Friendly neighborhood Mom and Pop with more than fair prices. Love it!
Best Thai food in the area near PCC
Price was a bit much but then saw how much food you got for the price. Worth it but not too toddler friendly but let's be honest, is anything lol
Great, friendly place. Love the pad see ew, spring rolls, crab fried rice, and sticky rice with mango.
Terrible !!!!!! I do not recommend this restaurant.
Hey! Dis good foods
Great local Thai, excellent flavor, campy hole in the wall
amazing food and wait staff, highly recommend
My wife and I were happy to find this place after our flight!! The curry is delish!!! Kudos for the vegan options.
best in pdx!
I can't even begin to describe how happy I am that we found this place again! We wandered in, starving about a year and a half ago. Ever since then, no Thai cafe has been the same! We finally found it Via Google, Yay!
Perfectly delicious, wonderful atmosphere, and pleasant staff 😊. All wins in my book!
I like the casual but authentic vibe but the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) is incredibly bland (did they even use sauce?!?). Quite possibly the worst Thai dish I have ever gotten in my life. No taste whatsoever. Also, on another visit, I requested Sweet and sour sauce for my dry fried rice and they made a big deal out of giving me an one ounce portion and when I asked for another they tried to up-charge me. C’mon man! That’s like charging me for more ketchup for fries at a diner! Why be cheap w sauce?!?
Awesome! I love this place the food the service and the prices.
At lunch you get a free half cup of Tom Ka soup! Every one is so nice and the food is SO delicious.
Very sweet lady, food was perfect too
Always the best Thai food in Portland and a must eat vegetarian/vegan spot
Good, reasonably priced Thai food.
Delicious inexpensive food served by great people.
Delicious food!
I love this place! The food is consistently good, there's never a long wait, the folks that run it are always very friendly. The variety of vegan options are great. The veggie tempura, spicy eggplant, and evil jungle noodles are personal favorites.
Loved the Tom Kha soup. Food was tasty and prices seemed very reasonable. The veggie tempura was good.
Cute family owned. Good food done quick
Quiet atmosphere and large portions of delicious food. What more can you ask for?
Great food it is delicious
Great service in a comfortable atmosphere. Our food was served quickly and our waitress was super nice. The food is not "Thai spicy" unless you ask for it, so don't have too much fear if that's what you're after. Definitely recommend!
It's alright. I appreciate the big portions for a pretty fair price, but the food is so bland that I have to get 'Thai hot' just to eat it. My last visit I got pineapple fried rice with tofu to-go. I received two small chunks of pineapple in a sea of rice and the tofu tasted like it was fried days ago (chewy, dried up and flavorless). I haven't tried their curries yet and perhaps that is where the silver lining lies. We'll see.
