Small family owned restaurant with artistic and unique style. Thai comfort food with sweet, salty, spicy, or sour taste perfect for your every need and craving.
We stumbled upon this little restaurant after an evening of thrifting on Division. We were so delighted by the paintings and various tchotchkes around the restaurant, it felt cozy and warm. We ordered the tom kha soup and pad se ew dishes, and noticed immediately that this isn’t your cookie cutter Thai food restaurant. Everything tasted handmade, similar to visiting a family home with fresh made food. Absolutely no frills, no fuss — this is an excellent location to bring a date or bring friends to have an excellent dinner together.
This might be my new favorite thai place in Portland. I love the mom and pop feel here. While they might not have the hip allure of somewhere like Thai Peacock downtown, the food speaks for itself. I haven't had Pad See Ew this good anywhere else. Portions were large and very reasonably priced. I would be willing to try anything on the menu after this first experience.
Absolutely fantastic food. Super cute and cozy little place and the people who run it are unbelievably nice.
Also, they have yakisoba on the menu, which I love but in America can very often be ... overly wet; more like lo mein. But Modern Thai nailed the consistency. So delicious, and everything on the menu is reasonably priced with generous portions.
I live nearby and since I have discovered this place it's hard not to order from them every night. Now I want more yakisoba.
I like this place out of the nearby Thai options. The Pad Thai is tasty, the food is affordable, and the people have always been warm and welcoming. :D
Such a fantastic thai restaurant! Family owned and so so friendly. Always so accommodating and fast with getting the food out. Their dishes are full of flavor that I get sad when I’m about to finish it all LOL — definitely give this place a try! i highly recommend the drunken noodles and red curry, especially with the weather getting colder! So cozy.

Super affordable
The drunken noodles are incredible
Cute, quirky little place with fun decorations and good food. A hidden gem.

The woman who served us was so sweet and the food was phenomenal! Possibly my favorite Pad Thai ever and the curry is amazing
Love the small details (music decorations) and an awesome Thai owner. Food was great.
The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced.
The place was great!
Great food great ingredients great price. Surprised
We ended up here because everyone in Portland was out to eat on a Monday night, presumably because it was 100 degrees outside. Our first and second choice restaurants were full. I'm so glad we did! The drunken noodles were some of the best I've had. Definitely will be back to try the curries. I'm white person who loves spice, spice level 4 had some good, mild heat to it. I'll probably go 5 next time. Service was fast, she kept everyone's water pitchers filled.
Loved the food and good service! Ate there twice during my visit to Portland.
Teriyaki chicken was amazing very nice lady. Also very fun spot for people watching
Best Thai restaurant in Portland! We’ve been to Thailand multiple times, snd this one is the closest you can get to authentic cuisine. Tons of delicious options both for spicy food lovers and those with a baby mouth (or kids).
Portions are huge. Price is amazing. Service is top notch!! Ao warm and welcoming! It’s like visiting your beloved Thai auntie who is also a great cook. Highly recommend to anyone craving delicious Thai food!
Highly recommend to anyone craving Thai food.
Best Thai on SE Division
It's ok food got the Pad tie and it was OK good enough to eat yaknow but nothing to write home about was hoping it was guna be a hole in the wall gem bit sadly it's not
This place is great. The host was extremely friendly and the food was absolutely delicious.
I love this place and their affordable prices. Delicious authentic thai food and a lovely owner!
Really great pot stickers and drunken noodle. Service is personable and fast. Love this place!
the best thai food i’ve had in portland. super cute decor inside and excellent service. i will be back!!!
I love getting the curry or drunken noodles. The spring rolls are good too if you feel like splurging. It's a great little place with friendly people.
Good food, good portions, and the owner was super kind and thankful that we were there on a snowy/icy night where there were no other customers.
I was honestly really disappointed in the food. I’m sad because the staff was really nice. I would go to another Thai place over this one. Food was way overly salted and oily.
The curry single handedly saved my life
The place is great, the service super great!!! And the food is awesome, delicious is short to define it.
DELICIOUS
Absolutely delicious and the staff are so sweet! Felt like I was back visiting in Thailand. Thanks for the amazing food! (The Tom Kha and Khao Soi are so good!)
Wow! Delicious khao soy ~ those were hard to find in bangkok, let alone pdx! Super fast and sweet service! Also open just a little later than all the 9pm shutdowns, which was a pure win for me! Khup khun! 🙏🏻
Amazing service and food! There are a good number of Thai places around town, and Modern Thai really delivered on flavor and authenticity. The woman who served us was so kind, I wanted to take her home to be my mom
Delicious, solid Thai classics! Prices are good, especially for the portion sizes. The chicken larb was a standout, even winning over my boyfriend who isn't normally a fan.
Terrific, authentic, excellent Thai food with wonderfully attentive service. Very generous portions!
There are about 5 similarly priced Thai restaurants with comparable menus within walking distance of each other around Division/Hawthorne. Modern Thai is consistently the fastest, easily the cheapest, has the best service (with the sweetest people working the front), and freshest food. My go-to casual dinner option in the neighborhood.
Best Pad Se Ew I've ever had (tofu, extra sauce). Ordered to go but loved the cluttered and colorful ambiance. Great price. I'll be back!
Food was tough and almost couldn't chew through it. We ordered noodles and a fried dish, both had similar issues. It seemed like they used ketchup for the sauce on the noodles. I can't recommend this place.
This is hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in Portland. The food is always amazing and the owners are so nice! A must go to
delicious pad thai and drunken noodle, as well as friendly service :)
A must try! Food was fresh and delicious!!!
Absolutely delicious! Best Thai food I’ve had in PDX yet! Owners were very kind and everything was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the bean thread noodles with beef. Will definitely be returning!
Went there last night with my gf and they were really nice & quick to make to go orders. Food was great and I will go back soon:)
Lovely place & fantastic food!!!
Delicious food, a lovely little place to go, and the sweetest staff. She was so helpful, friendly and my 3 year old loved her. Would 100% recommend.
This place and this family is so incredible! They are the kindest ever! I live coming here every time! The food is sooo authentic and delicious and soul warming. I feel guilty not wanting to try other Thai restaurants but I have to keep trying new dishes here and figure out which dish I actually like the most! Hehe This family just moved to town, let’s show them some serious love! They really deserve it. They are such an incredible old school fit to the neighborhood. Thank youuuuu!
Very friendly, family owned and the chicken pad Thai is great!
We stopped in for lunch at noon on a Thursday. Hubby had the pork pineapple fried rice, and I almost ordered the tom yum soup but couldn't get past the chicken pad thai. Both dishes were delicious. The pad thai noodles were perfect, just slightly chewy. Perfect. The fried rice included the usual veggies plus small raisins (!!!) and was a beautiful golden colour. Both the pork and the chicken were flavourful and moist. So glad we stopped here, and next time I'll have the tom yum soup.
This was the most delicious Thai food I have ever had.
This place is a super sweet new cozy spot in the Division neighborhood. We are so stoked to have found this spot! The family who runs it are all so sweet and kind and welcoming. This is absolutely some of my favorite thai food in all of Oregon. You can see it radiates authenticity and the wafting mouth watering scents of spice are abundant :)
Nice ambiance. Small cozy place. Great food and service. Will become a neighbourhood staple.
Best Thai restaurant! Food is delicious and owners are so friendly. The only Thai restaurant I eat at.
Honestly best hidden gem in town!! Give this restaurant a shot you will not regret it.
Great new Thai restaurant in the Richmond neighborhood!
Most amazing atmosphere and food. Warm and quaint
Wonderful food, friendly service, creative and beautiful aesthetic! I highly recommend:)
Nicest people and yummy food!! ♥️♥️
Welcoming, great service, and great food.
Today, my wife and I ordered the pineapple fried rice, and a small Tom yum to share. I have to say, it was very yummy, and the chef took his time to prepare the food very diligently. They have many types of Thai foods, including some street foods. They just opened recently and it’s very cute and comfy inside the restaurant! Give them a try soon!
BOOM!!!! POW!!! YUMMY!!!! WOW!!!!! THIS FOOD AND SERVICE WAS SOOO GOOD, I SLAPPED THE TABLE AND SCREAMED "HOT DAMN"!!! CALL YOUR MAMA CALL YOUR DADDY CALL YOUR BALD HEADED GRANNY AND GET DOWN HERE AND EAT!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE BEST THAI FOOD I’VE EVER HAD!! This family is the most sweetest, the most genuine, and they put a whole lotta love into their special dishes. I will never go to another Thai food restaurant again.
This is a new hidden gem on division street
Have always been such friendly people and are quick to satisfy their customers! Very tasty food. Will definitely visit whenever we find ourselves in Portland.
Authentic Thai food. Ate the Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup and Tom Kha soup and it tastes exactly like when I visited Bangkok. 10/10 this place needs more customers!! No MSG.
Love this restaurant! The food is delicious and the owner/staff supply amazing service. They have the absolute best Thai Tea I’ve ever tasted, only place I’ll get it from now!
Delicious and very friendly!
My wife and I went here around 9 pm after searching all over SE for a Thai place that was open on a Friday night. Modern Thai was still open thankfully and it is now our go to spot. The food was so good and the perfect portion size. The woman who took our order was so friendly and sweet! She talked about how her family owns the restaurant and had recently moved from Lebanon and opened the place. I love family owned business' and will continue to go here.
No more dad pun restaurant, yay!! Modern Thai is GREAT!! Crab Pad Thai was so good. Pineapple fried rice was a fun option (with raisins + cashews!! Great veg option). Spring rolls = bomb. Curry had a great heat to it without asking for modifications!!
This is our new local Thai spot. Cheers Modern Thai!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
great visit, good food, very kind staff!
The food was delicious and they were super friendly! I am definitely coming back soon!
My favorite mom and pop Thai place. Authentic and delicious
I used to go to Appathaizing and was sad when they closed. The new owners have finally remodeled the place and the food is excellent! We got the Larb and standard Pad Thai (my elderly mom’s fav). Tasty, very fresh and huge portions!
Drop in and give them a try!
Great value from a division street original.
Best Thai food in town hands down.
Delicious food, great for takeout!
Front end needs an update but the food is great and the owners are awesome! Great neighborhood spot!
The best place in the world!!
Best Thai food!!! ❤️🇹🇭
Fantastic Thai food. Recommend this place highly
Amazing food. Best Thai food in Portland!
One of the worst Thai places I've been to. The ingredients weren't fresh and the dishes were bland. I don't know what in the world all these high reviews are for.
I went here with 6 other people and we all loved what we got. Some favorites were the #19 mossoman curry, fresh veggies rolls, crispy spring rolls, and fried tofu. My personal favorite was the #20 pa naeng curry, excellent flavor. Also Thai iced teas were delicious. Would definitely go again, bummed that we are just visiting the area.
A moms and pops style Thai food. Tasty and authentic.
They got a couple of things wrong with our order but were prompt to correct it. The food was delicious, amazing and looking forward to going.
Good food and great service
I absolutely love this place!
Food is amazing. Homey atmosphere.
Great Pad Kee Mao!
The best Thai in the area! Friendly staff and very tasty food!
Seeing the unassuming front and general hole in the wall aesthetic, my expectations were not that high. I was happily surprised by the quality of the food. This place is so amazing. A genuine diamond in the rough. From the kind service to the grandma emerging from the kitchen to confirm orders, I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal. This place clearly values their customers and is passionate about good food. The servings were generous, prices extremely reasonable and the place was clean, but honesty the food was just really good. I will definitely return!
So welcoming, and great wontons! A great Ma and Pa shop.
Ordered the green curry with tofu. Literally the best curry I’ve ever had. I had it spicy, and by the end of it I was crying from the heat. It was so delicious I ate it all anyway. Very vegetarian friendly as well.
I loved the food here! It was extremely tasty and very reasonably priced. I had the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) with tofu, and I loved them! I highly recommend checking this place out for some solid thai food! Plus, the name is great!
Good basic Thai food, if just a little on the bland side.
Mom and pop my favorite kinda place. Real Tia food the way you would expect. Great service staff. One of Portland's hidden treshers.
Hard to find parking
Had Panang Curry, basil fried rice. Modest decor and only seats 20..BUT REALLY REALLY Great food!! Reasonably priced. Friendly service. Definitely will go back.
Amazing food and super affordable, if you haven't been GO
Excellent food , great prices. Best thai food around.
This understated place serves amazing Thai food! Plus there's seldom a wait. :)
We went to Pok Pok and did not want to wait the 1.5 hours for a seat. We seen the amazing reviews for Appethaizing and decided to give it a try since the reviews were much higher than for Pok Pok. We did not shy away from the small hole in the wall feel, because sometimes those types of places have the best food. This place, however, was not one of them. The mother and daughter that own it did both seem very nice, but unfortunately that did not make up for the quality of the food. Our meal was ready in less than 5 minutes, which in itself was concerning, and it was honestly barely edible. As our one dinner here in Portland, we were very sad to waste it on this place. Dont make the same mistake that we did.
Delicious Thai !!!!! Love the green curry and the wontons ! All for a GREAT price.
We had an amazing meal at this little place. We loved everything we had! Definitely recommend!
This place is AMAZING! Delicious food and super friendly services. Massaman Curry with beef, Evil Jungle Noodles, and mango sticky rice are all very delicious!
I didn't know what to expect when I walked in, but was pleasantly surprised.
I love this place it is our go to comfort food. We eat here every week
We were in the line up for Pok Pok when we discovered Appethaizing. The food at Appethaizing is delicious and true to traditional Thai cuisine. The owner, Apple and her daughter, Kat are just a delight and gave us the best restaurant experience. It truly felt as if they opened up their own kitchen to cook authentic Thai food for us. I highly recommend Appethaizing for your next Thai order in Portland, Oregon.
Really nice folks, relaxed atmosphere, fast, reasonable prices, spicy hot if you want it.
Waiting for Pok Pok? Go here. Food is delicious. Staff is attentive and kind. Local and quaint. So happy I stumbled in here with the boyfriend! Definitely added to the to-go list.
We ordered tom yum shrimp soup, green curry, pappaya salad, and thai tea. The taste is nice better tham most thai restaurant I had eaten in US before. However, it's little sweet, not very traditional thai taste.
We ordered Spring roll, Veggie Drunken Noodles and Veg Red Curry. The food was good and it was worth instead of waiting for 2hrs for Pok Pok and forgot to mention Thai Ice Tea it was amazing
Went to Pok-Pok across the street, but decided to try Appethaizing instead-what a great choice. Amazing food, great prices, and genuinely charming mom/pop operators of this fine establishment. Would recommend and return.
The food was really good. I got the pad Thai. The service was kinda slow. They don't have enough menus. We had to wait for another a group of people inside to finish ordering before we could even get a menu.
Awazing authentic thai food. Highly recommend it.
My favorite local Thai place. Super friendly owners that make home-made style authentic Thai. Hearty and yum. Great takeout place or for a quiet night dine in.
Great little Thai food restaurant, friendly people too
Go here if it's a long wait across the street.
Great little place to eat! The drunken noodles are amazing!
Absolutely fantastic thai food. This is my go to place for thai in SE Portland. I have not been disappointed yet! all cooked in a small kitchen as ordered. Don't be fooled by the simple interior décor!
One of the best Thai places around. The owner of the restaurant is the cook and makes great food. My wife and I would drive from Wilsonville to here almost once a week for the "Evil Jungle Noodles".
Went to try Pok Pok for once, but of course on a Saturday night there was at least an hour wait. We walked right across street and found this cute little Thai place. Not busy at all, super comfy atmosphere, great prices and amazing food. The Yellow Curry was awesome and so was everything else... Loved it. Super sweet people too. Check them out.
Best Thai restaurants on division. Pak Pak is for tourists. The local all eat here. This place is authentic
The inside doesn't look like much but the food is really good and reasonably priced. Our waitress was really sweet and took great care of us!
Delicious and cozy with great vegetarian options
Have had Thai Food around the world: New York, The Caribbean, Germany and China, and this is still my favorite. Love Appethaizing.
I absolutely recommend this place. We started across the street because Pok Pok was recommended to us. After sitting down and getting our menu, it was not the Thai food we were wanting, so we headed down the street and back up the other side until we happened across this little Mom and Pop restaurant. Inexpensive and good side portions. I definitely recommend the mango sticky rice. I got the Pad Thai and spring rolls. My mouth is watering as I type this. So underrated. They owners were super friendly and we chatted with them for a while.
Family owned small thai food place with great food good portion at a great price highly recommend.
Really enjoyed this place great food friendly people will definitely go back inexpensive loved it
Amazing!! up with old school division street.
Good stuff- Saving this place on the map! Glad we came in here, cute, small, friendly service, would recommend highly
Hands down this is my favorite Thai place in Portland, and I've tried a lot of them! It's a tiny little family place, so the speed isn't as quick as bigger places but it's definitely worth the wait. The peanut sauce is homemade and amazing, and the owner/chef is incredibly nice, she's a sweetie like your mom/aunt/grandma who cooks everything with love. I definitely recommend it and I'm willing to drive/bike/walk from Northeast just to eat here.
I was on the search for a good Thai restaurant in my new neighborhood and I found my spot. The food was good, the service was snappy and the price is right about average for the city. Well worth a try if you're in SE.
