Chain Thai eatery geared toward takeout features traditional cuisine in compact surrounds.
We ordered the salmon which was pan fried, and had the lightest crunch, covered in a panang curry sauce, and served over asparagus and green beans. This was absolutely the standout dish of the night! We also tried the crying tiger which was grilled perfectly and served with the most delicious dipping sauce. Lastly, we shared the kao soi. We've had this dish at the other location before and it was hauntingly memorable, but unfortunately this one was forgettable. We ordered it three stars because we remembered that the dish at the last location ran hot, but this version was too sweet, and incredibly rich. It could've been twice as spicy and still wouldn't be as spicy as the one we remembered. Still, we enjoyed our time at Cha'Ba and will definitely return for that salmon!
I hadn't been for over 5 years because my last few meals were sub-standard. A friend brought me here the other day and I was pleasantly surprised. Our curry dishes were good and substantial . Staff was very pleasant. 1/2 star off because the meal took longer to get out of the kitchen than I thought it should (given the few number of customers at the time).
Use to get food there every week. Slowed down after ordering a pineapple rice dish that always has plenty of raisins. Got take out and no raisins were in it. I called to complain and was told that they ran out. I stopped going for a couple of months.
I decided to try it again and made special note that I wanted my raisins in this time, as I had paid before with a large tip. I checked and could see about 7 raisins and thought the rest were hidden underneath. You guessed it, that was about all there was. Is there a shortage of raisins in this country?
Won't go back again, as the order itself was not that good anymore! Waste of a drive there.
Chaba Thai is your best neighbor hood Thai restaurant but you’re lucky enough to have multiple locations across town!
We live close to the Sandy location so it’s our #1 goto.
Food is awesome and it’s great if you eat in or to go.
Normally we get Chicken Satay as an appetizer- it’s so delicious and perfectly cooked. It comes with peanut sauce and something else my wife eats.
Their Pad Thai and Pad Ga Pro are our mainstays. Tonight I ordered their Volcano Beef dish and it came out on fire!! Mmmmm. It tasted incredible too. Might be my new goto dish.
Every meal has been great. There’s plenty of seating and Chaba Thai does incredible take out business. The staff is always so friendly as well.
Loved the food, service was awesome, present but not overwhelming. The ambience was chill. Would definitely come back!
So I didn’t dine in ordered online for take out! Man” I asked for no egg and no peanuts and got ish tone of peanuts now I’m not a person that leaves reviews but you can’t write no Egg and no Peanuts on the food container and still put peanuts in the food… “cum on man”
I have been coming here since 2020. The food is amazing and so are the staff.

A little too sauté for me! but I like the environment there
Fantastic restruant.
Pad Thai and pad key Mao are flavorful with massive portions.
The new building refresh is a clean aesthetic
Mm I love finding a local go to Thai joint close to home and Cha’Ba for sure fits. The green curry with fried tofu is impeccable!
The food has changed. Totally edible, but no longer as excellent as it was. :(

Great food and wonderful service! Highly recommend.
Great Thai food!

This is not the same restaurant anymore.
Food is not the same, the rest room is not clean anymore.
They’ve lost all charm now.
It must not the same owner anymore!!
Don’t go there if you remember the old chabathai!!!
Best authentically Thai food in Portland. No artsy fartsy crap. Just really good food for a good price from friendly people.
First time eating here. Both dishes we got were great! I got the eggplant stir fry with chicken which was excellent. My husband got pad kra pao with minced chicken and it was very good. We’ve eaten at many Thai places all over town and this holds up to all of them.
I've eaten here 3 times every month for 17 years. I keep coming back for more. They are doing something correct.
Very clean, friendly staff and the food was very good. 😊 I had the pineapple fried rice and the shrimp was huge.
Best Thai restaurant in Portland Oregon!
Favorite Thai place!!! I live for their Pad Thai with tofu. I now live an hour away but will still make a trip to this place. It is that delicious!!
It’s delicious. I don’t want Thai food from any other place
My favorite go to Thai place. I love the Shrimp Mango punch plate. Still a good deal comparatively.
Fresh, tasty Thai food with fast and friendly service
Nice variety of entrees, try the Volcano.
favorite Thai in Portland always amazingn and super affordable. Grew up in Portland and this is where we always went. A go-to ❤️
Love this place! Food & service is great!

Great food! Non-existent service.
It's good food and the service was great. You should try it out.
Best Thai food ever
Love it
Just popped in for lunch with a friend, quick service tasty food with good portions, water glass never empty.
This place used to be great in the past. I got it recently about a week ago and most of it was inedible. The pad Thai chicken tasted like they poured salt on it. They changed the Tom kha recipe. The Thai ice tea was so sweet I could barely drink it. And lastly the mango in the mango sticky rice was old and brown, it was disgusting and I had to throw it away. They should have just said they didn’t have mango sticky rice, instead of stealing my money and giving me something they should not serve. Unacceptable for the amount I paid and tipped this place. It sucks when establishments that were once good change their recipes or staff and it’s not the same. The only good part about the meal was the fresh salad roll. I’m very disappointed, I’ve been going here for years but I won’t come back.
Not busy when we got there. The lady was nice and very friendly. We ordered an entrée i can't pronounce and asked for no bamboo shoot, but the order still came out with it. She was apologetic and replaced with a new one. Their pad thai was good. It was flavorful that even when it already got cold, the flavor was still consistent. We will try their other food offerings in the future.
Took my family here to have lunch and glad I did. The food had excellent flavor and we really enjoyed our meal. We'll definitely be back soon to try other items on their menu.
Great Chicken Satay and fried rice
If you don’t give them a tip they literally chance you outside to ask why they didn’t receive a tip.
Very rude
I had Tom yum soup- for 14 dollors!
It had tofu, onion and tomatoes in it. It was very spicy and very tangy.
About stout.
Service staff is too bad, Attitude is not happy, unpleasant, They want us to eat in a short time and leave, they come to clean our plates and food when we have not finished eating. never come back here. What a bad experience
I’ve tried many Thai places across Portland and this place is hands down, the best. I normally have to add some sort of sauce (sriracha, fish sauce, hoisin, etc.) because the pad thai or pad kee mao is missing…something. That one thing that takes the dish from good to great. Or mediocre to good. Not this place. The pad thai doesn’t need a darn thing in my opinion. Fantastic spot!
I ordered 3 things over the phone
1 LUNCH pad thai
1 LUNCH pad see ew
1 LUNCH pineapple fried rice with NO raisins. Very easy order, some how the TWO things I had specifically wanted (lunch sized and no raisins) were wrong. I was charged $12 more than i wanted and they had put raisins in my fried rice. On top of that they had the audacity to charge me for peanut sauce. When i told them i had wanted lunch sizes they said “its okay because its more food”. Yea its more food but i wanted the LUNCH sizes. Also the padseeew was like 40% boc choi and broccoli.
In my opinion, they have the best pad thai in Portland
We only do take out so I can't comment on the atmosphere of the place. We've always enjoyed the tom yum soup, salad rolls and pad kee mao. The staff are very helpful and welcoming to patrons. Service is quick. A great place for Thai food.
Good food, could be organic and all veg to be even more to my liking.
Amazing Green Curry w/chicken,loved it actually. Really good portions. They also did a special request for crisp vegetables and letting me change Green peppers to red pepper. Was actually way better than the green pepper because the red pepper is nice and sweet.
Been coming here since 2009 & it's still the best. Would recommend their satay, green curry & kao pad spicy basil fried rice!
Love this place! We got Pad See Ew, Khao Soi, and Tofu Salad Rolls. Everything was so tasty and exactly what we wanted. Great service and cozy dining experience. We will definitely be back!
Great and kind service with delicious food! Will be returning!
Authentic food, well prepared, large servings, great prices
Just wasn’t very good, or fresh.
The food was DElicious! I ordered 64, I think. And my brother ordered a curry. Extremely quick service since we were there late night.
My curry was delicious. The service was fast and friendly and took the time to joke with us. Would 10 out of 10 recommend this place?
Amazing Thai food, some of the best I’ve had!
Interesting menu ,the owner waited on us and she was very pleasant!; The food was delicouse! Love music in bar with dancing!!
Always get the pad see ew. So good!
Had the duck/red curry. To die for. Wife & friend delighted with their dishes shrimp & chicken. Better than what I found in Thailand.
Bland and way over priced 40 bucks for 2 pad thi and app never again
The best Thai food in the area hands down. Pad Kee Mao is the best
First time there, look forward to returning very soon!
My pad vegetable entree was a total ripoff. Tiny portion of poorly thrown together generic stir fry. The food was worse than day old panda express and twice as bland. Never again.
Nice clean little place to eat, friendly staff.
Spectacular and delicious. Gracious service. Nice atmosphere. Authentic food. It's all delicious. A little challenge to park but worth a bit of a walk
This restaurant They are not good people look at you like mad they don’t ask if you need anything I don’t recommend 👎
Beautiful tasty Thai take away. Wonderful warm staff made everything easy for terrific family food order. Lovely art and decor of Thai culture gives us a reason to return and do sit down dinnernext time.
Arguably the best Thai food in East Portland, per my Thai wife's opinion. We've missed them after moving to North Bethany, so we almost always drop in when we travel to the Eastside.
I went to the Sandy Cha Ba Thai on May 13, 2022 for dinner with my cousin for my birthday . I have been going there for years and always had the most delicious Thai Food , but this last visit was far from excellent . We ordered a chicken dish served over broccoli with a sauce on top and the chicken was very dry , the broccoli was barely cooked and the sauce was ok but not the usual flavorful to be expected. The side of rice was warm almost cold. The other dish was a noodle dish with shrimp and there was only a couple pieces of shrimp in it and again not very temperature hot far from what we expected. Our shrimp salad rolls with peanut sauce had 1 shrimp in 1 and a half a shrimp in the other and mostly consisted of lettuce and very little rice noodle. I must say the quality was not there and I was very disappointed in the whole meal. I hesitate going back again . It’s very disappointing as I have always had the most delicious food there in the past .
A bit shady and pricy for the portion. No as great taste. Not recommended.
Just had a terrible experience ordering curry via GrubHub. After selecting jasmine rice for two orders of curry, and not getting rice for either I called the restaurant. I was told that rice was not included and I need to pay extra for the rice. This is outrageous to me, and if I could give them 0 stars I would. Forgetting the rice is one thing, purposely not giving people rice with curry is pathetic and embarrassing for anyone calling themselves a Thai restaurant.
Really beautiful food. Order the salmon and mango salad if you like subtle complex tangy harmonious flavor
Es un buen sitio para comer es un lugar muy agradable porque los empleados se atiende muy bien alos clientes
In my opinion, the best Thai food in Portland!
I have been there for about 15 times, and every time their food is awesome. My favorite is Pad Eggplant with chicken.
So delish. And fresh. And very nice staff. Loved the cuisine very much!
A must go.
I like their Thai food but the food at Mai Ploy on Alberta is a bit better. The pad Thai here is a little overcooked leading to a mushy dish. See my pics.
My friends brought me here for a top notch Thai food experience on my inaugural Portland trip and this place did not disappoint! The tofu pad thai was excellent and the Thai iced tea was a nice match. A great choice for dine-in or carry out.
My family loves this place! We have been going in periodically for several years and they are fantastic with my 3yr old! Excellent service and food!
I always got the Pad Kee Mao. Moved a while back and miss this place
Excellent green curry and Tom Yum soup, just the well balanced flavors of the ingredients, no cheating with sugar like other places I've been.
Pretty good food. Was pleasantly surprised. Will go back. Oh, their hot is really hot. Just saying.
The food was very good. It's not expensive but neither is super cheap. There's only parking on the street at the front and there are more businesses on the sides so might struggle a little to parl close by. The service was great and the food seemed very authentic.
Delicious food. Great vibe. Friendly, welcoming staff!
Always welcoming, food consistently tastey & comfy dining room. Tea is excellent.
Loved it, First place i tried Thai over 15 yrs ago. Still the best
Great, but the medium was HOT!!! Almost too spicy to enjoy but it was still tasty (I got Tom Yum).
Yummy! Great Pad Thai!
A friend ordered take out for me. Unfortunately the dishes were way too sweet and have steered away from authentic Thai cuisine quite significantly in my opinion
This is a sorry excuse of a Thai restaurant. The waitress we had was rude, condescending and impatient. There were 6 of us in an empty restaurant so don't know why they were being like this to us. We ordered the following: Pad Thai w/chicken (tasted like spicy vinegar); Massamun curry w/chicken (barely had any taste at all with it being so watered down); Lemon Chicken w/peanut sauce (no lemon taste, dry chicken was served in strips on top of a bed of broccoli with peanut sauce slathered on top...tasted disgusting); chicken friend rice (pretty basic compared to other Thai restaurants we've eaten at); Vegetable combination w/chicken (didn't taste fresh and we asked if it had cabbage with it, the waitress said yes but there was no cabbage). The only decent thing we ordered was Thai iced teas. They never asked us how the food was or checked on us. The food was brought out one dish at a time. Weird. The waters they brought out had no ice and when we asked for an ice water they brought out a cup of ice! They also wanted to automatically charge us 18% gratuity for our table of 6. I don't give tips for bad, scratch that, HORRIBLE service and nasty food. We barely ate what they served. They argued with us about taking off the 18% gratuity and instead took off one of the dishes from the check. Also, there was one lady who had been waiting for her pick-up order for over 40 minutes and they kept telling her it would be another 5 minutes (they told her this a couple times) all while handing out other pick-up orders. Unorganized, horrible, not worth it place. Plus the prices are WAY too high for what you are served.
It’s still taste good like it used to.
Soooooo good tonight. Thank you
Serving size should be bigger for the price
Always friendly and thats most important with a neighborhood restaurant.
Service was great.
Unfortunately, the food was really bland.
Love Cha’Ba Thai. Their food is so fresh and tasty consistently. The staff is very sweet and SO efficient.
Got take-out here and the staff were wonderful. The food was fresh, perfect temp and tasted great! Ordered the Tom yum soup, pineapple fried rice and pad se ew and all were delicious.
The best thai food around and lovely staff!!
Seems prices went up drastically... still great food, but it was a bit of a shock, to go pick up our normal order, minus the spring rolls and find it go from about $30 to almost $50 for less than we normally get. I understand it is harder now for restaurants, but that is just to much of a price hike for us, seems almost like gouging. We won't be back. What a shame.
Good pad see ew :D
Great food and sevice
Their spicy is actually spicy and the beef was really good!
I am literally still in the restaurant writing this because they deserve this review immediately.
This was not only fantastic food, but the best service I've ever had. I had only just finished my food when the waitress walks up with both my check and a to-go box which I hadn't even asked for yet. The fish cakes were perfectly cooked with a fantastic sauce, and the pad thai although appearing somewhat ordinary, was clearly cooked with love and proficiency, as evidenced by the rich flavors and attention to detail. I will return the next time I am in Portland.
Yummy! One of my favorites Thai restaurants. Never disappointed!
Amazing food, awesome service, very helpful!
Fantastic always! Amazing seafood. Must try the angel wings. Dining room open with 20' between parties. Take out quick. Always impressed.
I love Cha'Ba Thai so much. Me and my spouse have been coming here for four years and it is always delicious - never an off night. They also have our numbers and orders saved so they kind of always know what we want. Go here now!
ALWAYS fast, friendly, consistent, beautiful, well-made food! They make it hot if you like spicy, or they can keep it mild, & the flavors are always great! My go-to Thai on Portland’s East side!
Really good food, but their customer service? Jikes.
After spending months in Thailand in the early Nineties I came back to the sates (Portland) craving authentic Thai food that made my mouth sing. It wasn't until Cha'Ba Thai opened that I reconnected with those amazing flavors, but on a scale far above that of what I got in Thailand. (We are blessed to have amazing food quality in the PNW.)
I have been been a regular customer of Cha'Ba for over 20 years and it is the the bar I use for authentic Thai cuisine in Portland. Yes, I know this is a big statement in a food city like Portland, but it really is true. The people are awesome, friendly, polite and they always have a smile.
Everything on the menu is top notch! I have had everything at least twice and plan on retrying some of the things I haven't tried in a while.
They are experts at pick up orders and the food does really well in transport to your abode. The curries are all to die for and my kids can't get enough of the Fresh and Spring rolls.
If you haven't had Cha'Ba Thai you haven't had the best Thai food in Portland!!
I love the food. But PLEASE stop using plastic clam shell packaging. There are other options! There has been for years now. You lose one star because of it.
Great Pad See Yew
Best thai food EVER!! Love the staff.
Good Thai food and very friendly staff
Excellent food everything on the menu is yummy🤩
This has always been one of my favorite Thai restaurants. I go there for meetings and often refer friends and co-workers there. Today was the second time detecting a bit of discrimination. I addressed it before and the woman apologized after I reported her behavior and all was well.
Today me and my friend went for lunch and she ordered fried rice, Curry-style and they brought her out some other Curry dish with white rice on the side. The waitress, Lexi told her she knew she ordered fried rice but they didn't have curry fried rice so she just brought her that!
My salmon was luke-warm and asparagus cold. I thought they were going to re make it but, they zapped it in the microwave, making the salmon soft instead of crispy as I like it. When I told them about it, they called the manager, Nick and he wanted to to talk to me on the phone to tell me that they couldn't serve me salmon and went on about how I could order something else. He was very rude so I will not be returning. 🙄
We LOVE Cha Ba Thai. The food is delicious, and the staff is fantastic!
Delicious - crab fried rice is awesome along with all of their dishes,
Best Thai food in Portland! Great quality and service! We go on a weekly basis
This is by far my favorite thai restaurant I'm Portland. Not only is the food exceptional but the staff are amazing. The staff goes above and beyond with everything they do. I actually look forward to my interactions with them. It does not get any better than this place!
The food was good but the server was rude.
Always enjoy a good noodle!!!
