I recently ordered takeout from sugar, brown
, and I was incredibly disappointed. The food was absolutely disgusting, far from what I expected. To make matters worse, the service was atrocious. The person who handled my order, Deven, was extremely disrespectful and had a terrible attitude. Not only was the food bad, but the high prices were completely unjustified considering the poor quality and the horrendous service. I will never go back to this restaurant, and I advise others to stay away as well. This was an all-around awful experience
I have to say, the food here is beyond amazing! I'm new to the sushi world but willing to try anything. On this visit I decided to have sushi with eel. Eel! I had questions for the server and she answered with a smile and was knowledgeable about what she was serving, those are the things that make meals more enjoyable. I never thought that I would actually like eel. Give this place a shot, it is 5 stars all the way.
service was okay,I ordered a coconut boba, the tapioca pearls were undercooked hard. the tea tasted exactly like old evaporated milk overall waste times, six dollars I was skeptical about going in and I shouldn’t have
Ordered PAD THAI, for carryout, absolutely beyond gross, tasted like noodles and sugar🤮 couldn't taste even a hint of peanut sauce.
I went to the Lakewood Location and I got the Orange Tofu side of white rice and the Mango Roll and it was delicious.

By far the best Thai in town. Super fast and 10 min wait. My favorite dish is pad Thai with tofu or chicken. I like it more than the country pad Thai.

Only carry out. Always friendly. Food is super on point. Mango curry us excellent.
Our go to Thai restaurant for dinner once per week! We always order the Basil Fried Rice w/ chicken (extra spicy) & Orange Tofu w/ white rice and it never disappoints. Very consistent flavor and delicious every time! Highly recommend.
Very poor service
Take out. The orange chicken was like deep fried funnel cake fair food and breading that was incredibly sugary tasting like an actual funnel cake with orange sauce on it. Also an after taste of seafood so I assume they use the same oil. Chicken fried rice was alright but tons of eggs in it. Will not be going back.
I don't know whether the woman standing at the cash register is the owner or an employee, but she is very rude and rude. You have no right to treat people this way. I don't know how you lived in the country you came from, but this is America and everyone comes here with a dream and a purpose. That's not how business works. What a pity..
In the past, the customer service here wasn't great. But it's definitely improved in recent years. Great food and super friendly staff.
YUCK!!!🤮
Take out only. After driving over 30 minutes to get here, not too happy that we couldn't eat. Didn't end up going.
My orange chicken more dough than chicken and my fried rice was terrible. I am highly disappointed in the meal I received while getting take out.
Delicious worth every penny and had seconds for lunch the next day
I walk into this place to pick up and order and no one is there to help. I start walking back to the kitchen constantly saying hello, you there. Finally a person pops out and VERY RUDELY says get out of here, like I am going to steal something. I'm like hey, I am just here to pick up an order, I even said thank you and have a nice day to this person who promptly reported me to Uber because I didn't have a delivery bag to carry the food in. The customer didn't complain, I though about me yesterday, It was this place and the complaint they levied was nonsense. I learned my lesson, learned to NEVER EVER take orders from this place ever again.
Honeydew milk tea was delicious!
Very disappointing experiencing. Pad thai was so bland and literally just noodles with a couple pieces of chicken. Teriyaki beef was a very small portion. Hot and sour soup was just broth with 2 pieces of shrimp. Staff said, "it's only $6!". Summer roll was the best part and still not much to talk about. Upon voicing my concerns over our $45 dinner being so flavorless and pathetic, I was told by staff "it's usually like that". Would not recommend to anyone. Oh and only take out is available, no dine-in offered at all.
Very overrated and very overpriced. The chicken pad thai was super dry and lacked flavor. The summer rolls were actually pretty good so I'm adding a star for that. The hostess/owner was over-the-top with her mask and plexiglass wall and still taking my order for like 50 feet away... it looked like a parody scene from Armageddon. Keep in mind Brown Sugar Thai is now take-out only. Doesn't matter for me because I won't be going back. There's cheaper and tastier Thai food out there.
Right now, they are only offering take out. They also deliver through multiple delivery apps. Such as Uber Eats or Door Dash, just those two, for example. Have been eating here for years. Wonderful customer service is also fantastic food. They can modify most food to make it spicier or less spicy. Next time I go, I will take a picture 📸 lol of my food. I usually be ready to eat, but that way, the picture can speak for themselves. Highly recommend this place. There's a parking garage for free. I believe..also theres shops across the street. You could park at either. I usually park across the street and walk over. Wonderful Thai restaurant, there's also one in Rocky River, same name. Hope you enjoy this place as much as I do lol and if you already go keep going back. 😁
Still cannot dine in post covid, but the food is great! Try the curry dishes. They are my favorite.
I have yet to be disappointed by their food or service! Prices and fair for the amount of food you get. The pineapple fried rice and all of their curries are amazing!
Great goodies healthy choices! O your customer service is thee best! Cantaloupe 🍈 bubble tea !
Some of, if not the best fried rice I've ever had.
My wife and I ordered pai Thai :(. Taste like ketchup:( and usually Thai hot is supposed to be HOT! Taste like ketchup!!!
delicous
Food is excellent
Bummer it's take out only due to not enough staff. 😕
There was an underlying smell and taste in my beef and broccoli and it was not good…. Beef was tough and rubbery and the smell/taste of the sauce used was so off putting that I completely lost my appetite. The Crab Rangoon was pretty good but probably won’t order from here again. There are better Thai options.
The fried was not that good to me. More pricey .Not an abundance of food
Food was barely edible and I ordered one brown rice and one fried rice, received two fried rice. I can't eat fried rice. Will never order again.
Food tastes good but the quantity/value you get for your money is absurd. Ripoff. Spoke w someone about it and poor customer service. Pathetic
The summer rolls here at this location are small. They are twice as big at the Rocky River location.
Not the best pad Thai I've ever had but it's worth checking out if you're close by.
I paid 34$ for 30 piece sashimi deluxe but only got 22 pieces and it wasn't even remotely fresh. Absolute waste of money!
When will you open for dine in? It’s the only restaurant in town with out dine in . But Google says it’s open when it is not.
Delicious food with great staff in a low key, but cool place.
Very good food, very polite and clean place. First time there and with Thai food and though dining was closed it was very clean and busy....I highly recommend it....
The thai milk tea is good here
Ordered three items
Torch salmon really small portion and bubble tea no flavor at all.
Love this place, but they often don't pick up the phone when I call.
Pretty good.
Very Good. Fast Service
I’ve been to Brown Sugar in Lakewood at least 25 times. Love their sushi and pad Thai. Great flavors and spice. A bit of a hidden gem in Lakewood.
Hands down, best Pad Thai in town. Country style is they variety I’m used to, but have tried both and they’re equally as good. This has been my fave Thai spot for years, and it’s incredibly consistent, good portion sizes, very reasonably priced.
Very quickly made and was open to our requests.
It's good that food, though not the best I've had. I like their sushi, but again, not three ultimate. Good for a try, YMMV
Unprofessional very rude stuf bad experience
Sushi was perfect!
Let it be known that I rarely ever review restaurants. Ordered sushi at 2 o'clock on a Thursday. Ordered a shrimp tempura roll and an avocado roll which ended up totaling $12. Pretty standard. Both were 6 pieces.
The shrimp tempura roll had nothing in it. Out the 6 pieces, 2 of them had actual shrimp in them and the other 4 somehow were strictly tails. I had to pull it out and eat the ball of rice/seaweed. I wish I would've taken a photo. The rolls came with soy sauce, literally looks like they put 10 drops in the cup. Beyond disappointed, still hungry. Not worth the money at all.
First time there tonight. I ordered Pad Thai county style. It is outstanding! I'm not on this side of town very often, but when I am, I'll stop here if I'm hungry.
I order here almost every other week. I really like their drunken noodles and spicy fried rice with tofu. One of my favorite thai places around Cleveland.
If you are thinking of coming here get ready.... for the WORST food and meal of your life. I ordered the Cashew Chicken at lunch and was left with an awful disgusting taste in my mouth to where I literally had to brush my teeth three times and the taste still lingered! My family member ordered tofu pad thai and discovered a long thin black strand of hair in her food (a color of hair none of us have). Spread the word the food and service is abysmal. So don't waste your time or money.
My partner and I order pas Thai from this restaurant a ridiculous amount of times throughout the year. So consistent, quick and affordable. We love their food!
Takeout only?? Really?!? Drove all the way out here for nothing.
I have tried several different Pad Thai places in Lakewood and this is the best place to go! The portions are great for the price and they haven’t raised their prices due to covid. The food is always ready for pickup within 20-30minutes. I can’t wait for their dining room to open!!
Got two pieces of plastic in rainbow sushi roll.
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE THE WORKER IS VERY RUDE WHEN I CALLED THEY CALLED ME STUPID!!
Very poor quality, tiny portion sizes for regular sushi. Rolls were falling apart and did not have enough filling inside to stay together. Oshinko pickle sushi used to have 3 - 4 different kinds inside and only has 1 inside now.. Used to really enjoy coming here to eat, will not be ordering from here ever again.
This iced coffee is what I go for. It is so good!
Their vegan pad Thai is consistent in taste and the service is fast and friendly :^)
Tasty and consistently so. We’ve eaten here a number of times and it never disappoints.
My wife is gluten-free (celiac) and has never had an issue here, which makes it one of our standbys.
Nice people and very fast to prepare the food. Thanks!
Delish!
My husband and I eat here pretty much weekly! The service is really wonderful, and the staff is so responsive and proactive with food allergies and intolerances. The food itself is so good! I like the pad see ew and all the sushi dishes, especially the white tuna. My husband always gets pad thai country style with Siam rolls. I've also had their soups and they are very good! It's probably our favorite restaurant in Lakewood.
Great Lakewood staple. Always a satisfying meal
Great service! I love their mango dessert
After trying a few Thai places out in downtown and west side, this has become our go-to Thai spot. I’m obsessed with the pad see ew - the noodles and flavor are amazing. Their pad Thai is also delicious. Never a disappointing experience.
Great service and great food. The care provided to patrons, especially with COVID, is so refreshing. This is my favorite restaurant for Thai food.
I'm a regular. The food is always good, and staff is pleasant and helpful.
Ordered the Lemon scallops dish and it barely had any scallops. They were sliced very thin. Maybe had 2 scallops total that were quartered. They were also overcooked and rubbery. I also ordered sushi with it and I was left hungry after spending $25. I had to have a bowl of yogurt when I got home to get adequate protein.
ordered chicken teriyaki through grubhub. Was my first time trying Brown sugar Thai. Have always heard really good things. Food was delivered in a timely manner and was still piping hot. The Bangkok wings were delicious. The Teriyaki however was literal water. I don't know if it was something that happened in transit because the food was steaming itself or what but unlike any teriyaki i've ever seen. I ended up putting it in a pan heating it back up and adding some arrow root to thicken it.
Even as takeout, this was the best pad Thai I’ve ever had. I don’t even know how to make fried egg as good as what was in here, and the sauce was exceptional.
15 dollar pad Thai with 4 shrimp?
Brown Sugar Is one of my favorite Thai food restaurants.
My partner picked up food for us Sunday evening. Upon opening it that I noticed only 4 shrimp. 15 dollars for 4 shrimp, noodles and peanuts? I must say that I felt ripped off. I’ve dined in, ordered take out several times with no incident. I guess it was bound to happen eventually, but 4 measly shrimp? Never again.
Service was slow. The food was good.
I ordered country pad thai, siam rolls and mango boba tea.
So fresh
Felt rushed by the server. She came over multiple times to ask if we were ready to order while we were clearly still looking at the menu. They weren't busy at all when we came. I ordered the Duck Choo Chee and the sauce was very watery. It did not taste good. I don't foresee myself coming here again while there're many other Thai restaurants to choose from.
The food is constantly great. The service was a bit rushed the other night because it is so popular. Glad to keep them in business, however.
Their Pad Thai is fantastic. My favorite item on the menu is the sticky rice with mango. Best food in town.
The food was good. But we had bad experience with the service. The lady who served us was very rude and she kept rolling her eyes. I never complain about service because I’m a server myself and I understand how hard it is. But the entire restaurant was empty and she was not paying attention. We were done eating out appetizer still she didn’t come back to take the order. She asked my husband to finish his drink before asking for refill when he had a little drink left. When my husband said no ice in the soft drink please, she gave half glass of soft drink. I never had this bad experience
Delicious food. Good value. Nice variety.
Incredible vegan options!
Overall was ok. Crab Rangoon was surprisingly crispy...and the sushi was interesting and tasty. Chicken Pad Thai was super unfortunately sub par. Chicken was too dry to eat and the rest was...just the rest.
Great food, garbage music.
Rude waitresses. Overpriced.
Literally deep fried shrimp tails and rolled it into my sushi. There was no actual shrimp. Will never go back.
The basil fried rice was great. It was fantastic! Not the best ever, but really, really good.. On the other hand, the Pad thai was terrible. Honestly, it was the worse ever. I would be willing to bet Taco Bell could prepare better pad thai than Brown Sugar. If you want pad thai, just don't go here. You will be very disappointed. You can tell the chicken was frozen at some point, cooked, refrigerated then microwaved and served. It was the driest chicken you could ever imagine. I urge anyone reading this to not ever consider pad thai from this restaurant. However, the basil fried rice was perfect. It makes no sense...seems like each dish came from a different restaurant.
Awesome food, but hidden. I really hope they survive.
Lunch box specials are my favorite, and the servers are so kind!!! Definitely worth checking out, I'd suggest around lunchtime. :D
All of us loved our traditional Thai dinners there. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was pleasant!
Super good food, really good prices on everything
If you have a dietary restriction, Celiac disease or an allergy, this is the place to go. Very knowledgeable staff and very accommodating regardless of what ails you. Great prices and the staff is fast as the wind haha. Get the Orange Chicken, Thai spicy 5. You'll thank me later.
Excellent food
We had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Quiet background music, take your time attitude, no eavesdroppers or rubberneckers hanging about, nobody shouting for attention, nobody there to stage an ‘ism’ or ‘ist’ attack. Just we 2. Perfect timing. Nice.
Lots of animal-free options!!
Everything fresh and perfectly seasoned.
Yes, Steve eats TOFU!!
Cashier has bad customer service she had a big attitude
Service was horrible. Food was horrible. Don't waste your time or money.
Delicious sweet sticky rice and Siam fried rice, not to mention their bubble tea.
This place is always so fast with the orders when you place them for pick up. The staff is friendly, the venue is always spotless clean and the food tastes great. They have a huge selection to choose from. Their crab rangoon is to die for!
Ordered food for takeout and it was done incredibly fast. The food was hot, abundant, and so delicious! I will absolutely be visiting this place again.
Love the coconut shrimp soup!
Ordered takeout and it was my first time eating Brown Sugar Thai. The pad thai was meh - the chicken was dry and flavorless, and apparently added as an afterthought instead of being cooked with the rest of the dish; the noodles were broken into tiny pieces and impossible to eat with chopsticks; and, the sauce was sweet and bland with zero spice. The potstickers were deep fried instead of pan fried and came with barely enough dipping sauce, however they were delicious. The crab rangoon was a tad salty, but perfectly cooked, so creamy, and ultimately the best part of my meal. Overall, I wasn't as impressed as I wanted to be, but I will definitely give Brown Sugar Thai another try.
Good stuff
The food and the service is wonderful
Amazing
Lovevit
Excellent food. Traditional Thai and read with a twist. I had Mango Curry that was perfect. The place was empty at 6:30 on a Wednesday evening. The staff seemed surprised and maybe a bit inconvenienced that we wanted to actually EAT there. It's a shame the place isn't thriving. The food is super good and the menu is many pages long.
Delicious food, friendly/efficient service, and a clean environment. Everything you would want in a quality restaurant.
Service great. Food excellent and price is reasonable. Very nice.
リーズナブルです、
The food was not very good, but the service was really good. It was old fish and rice used in the sushi and the basil fried rice was salty.
Love the Thai tea
Omg, the food was fabulous. The service was excellent and the price more than reasonable. We will be back
Not all inclusive
Service is prompt but I felt a bit rushed. Food is excellent
Sauce was so thin you can see through it. Overpriced too.
The ladies are nice and the food is decent. Parking is a challenge.
The fish is delish and makes quite a dish.
Love this place good food
Great food, quick service and allergy friendly!!
Good food and fast service
I've tried all the Thai places in Lakewood and this one doesn't measure up to the others for what you pay. The presentation is excellent on all the food that we ordered and you can tell that attention to detail is key here but the food is lacking that. It was just very bland.
Just a personal opinion but I've had better Thai food at other restaurants.
Staff was super kind and the food was some of the best I've ever had
I've enjoyed every meal we've had here. I wouldn't describe the food as excellent, but it is consistently very good. My favorite offering is a toss up between their drunken noodles and green curry. Service was great when we first started coming here, but has declined noticeably since then.
It's ok..
My friend and I got a total of four items. My fried rice and her pad Thai were bland, and our edamame was not very salted. Not impressed by the food, but the service was good
The crispy duck was outstanding!
The service is a little slow, but the food is good. I had the country style pad Thai, got exactly what I was expecting. Their food isn't very spicy, so if you want a really spicy meal be sure to let them know to turn up the heat.
Amazing cuisine! The selections are vast, the portions are large and the prices are reasonable!!! Get there at some point. You will NOT be disappointed.
Although I did not like my meal the owner offered to let me try something else. She was soo sweet and she apologized. I just thought the food was a bit sweet. For good customer service I’ll give this restaurant five stars because they were very professional and kind.
I have only gotten take out from here but I love it. Get the basil fried rice! I get it every time & it's super delicious with a nice spicy kick! The spring rolls are great too.
Extremely rude and condescending staff.
I order Brown Sugar pretty regularly through door dash and it always gets to me fast and hot. One thing I get every time is the crab Rangoon. They're just perfect all around. I also highly reccomend the pineapple fried rice. The drunken noodles are really good I just personally prefer the skinny noodles to the flat ones so I don't get it often but I would suggest it to anyone that asked. Unfortunately I'm a creature of habit and always get the same thing so I can't reccomend much else but if I imagine it's just as good.
Disappointingly average food. Luckily the interior is very clean, and the servers are nice and promptly attentive. Probably wouldn't choose to go again though.
