Noodles, curries & other classic Thai dishes in a simple space with Thai-inspired decor.
Great food and a fair serving size for the price. If I’m extra extra hungry I may go elsewhere for better value. The coconut cake is legendary, you must get it. Drinks are fine but that’s not what I’m after when visiting here. Solid food, consistent every time.
Best Thai place in town. Best Thai place I've had in North Carolina. Crab Rangoon was the best I've had in a long time. Just like my mom used to make it. Had the crispy duck basil which I would definitely get again. Coconut cake= AMAZING! I will definitely be coming back. Their lunch deals look really good.
Can't go wrong with whatever you get here. There were a lot of to go orders, but I will probably always dine in. Reminds me of home.
Nice Thai restaurant with a unique twist on classic favorites! I ordered a papaya salad and was surprised to see that it came with fresh jerky on top. It was really good! I also was impressed by how tender the salmon was, since I believe many places overcook salmon. And the potstickers were really good and I loved the curry that they were served in. My only regrets are that the food wasn't as spicy as I was hoping it would be, and even though the place was fairly empty it took a while for the server to come to our table.
This is the worst pad thai ever. They have put some sweet sauce and it almost takes like some noodles dessert. It was very very sweet, from the first bite. I have been to many thai restaurants and i know what pad thai is. You can see how much sauce is in the picture.
Service: The guy standing here does a very poor service like he does not care to explain. I asked a question and he said something really fast and went inside.
We try Thai Cafe once a year because it’s near our house. We keep thinking it might improve. Unfortunately it continues to disappoint. For this meal we had 4 dishes. Only the soup was passable-but the chicken was overcooked and tough. Overcooked protein featured in every dish. Everything was devoid of seasoning. Most bland basil roll ever. In the Spicy Garlic and Black Pepper Pork there was almost no garlic, and it was not spicy at all. Oddly some wilted lettuce was thrown in…the staff is nice, and the coconut cake is pretty good. But it’s not enough to come back for.
We love Thai food and have enjoyed it in many other cities. We will have to keep looking for better options.
Stopped in for dinner after a recommendation from friends. Amazing service and delicious food. The staff made us feel like family. Green curry was so yummy. Gluten free Coconut cake was amazing!! Hard to find gluten free restaurants with as many options available as here. And the cake topped it off. Tried fried tofu for the first time and that was also delicious. Highly recommend for a delicious, casual meal.

Bno
We think this is the best Thai food in town. The coconut soup is particularly duperb.
I came in at 8:30 and was asked if I was picking up… I replied No, dinning in. The hostess, who was sitting at the bar, began speaking in Spanish and asking what time was it and got an attitude.
Little did they know I speak Spanish and understood everything… especially the attitude and frustration she exhibited to the woman behind the counter.
I heard good things about this restaurant BUT… I will never eat here. The customer service was horrible before I got a chance to even eat. I will be speaking to the owners.
Best Thai I've ever had! Great selection, full bar, and the coconut cake is unique and delicious. Highly recommend!
Great Drunken Noddles
Very good Thai food. Service was very good and very friendly. Coconut cake is fantastic.
Spring rolls, potstickers, shrimp masaman, beef curry, spicy cashew chicken and lamb lollies were all fantastic! Server was brand new but he earns an “A” for effort. Restaurant is very clean and nice inside. Casual attire. Don’t leave without trying the coconut cake! Can’t wait to go back!
This fell far below the mark for me in terms of your typical thai takeout. The drunken noodles aren't made with fresh rice noodles but from dried, the sauce is thin and totally lacks the characteristic taste of drunken noodles, and the beef wasn't velveted, instead coming out like stew beef. I ordered the red curry as 3, "hot" level spicy and it was barely at a typical "2" level, and it tasted more like coconut cream than a typical red curry. There is celery in the vegetable mix, a heads up for others who don't like celery in their stir fries. Altogether the food was fine to eat but tasted just like something I'd make at home (I am no Thai chef) and for the price, I can't justify that at all. If you're looking for "typical" drunken noodle and red curry takeout I cannot recommend this place based on this experience.
Food is not good. Bland. Dry chicken.
I placed an online order for a lunch meeting for a group. The food was delicious and the presentation was outstanding. Everything was properly wrapped and secured. I was able to bring the lunch back to work without any leaky mess.
My favorite Thai Restaurant
We walked in at 8:15 and were seated and instead of greeting us the waitress immediately addressed us if we were aware they closed at 9:00? Of course we were but 45 minutes before close is enough time to be seated and served. We were quickly rushed by her for us to place an order and told the kitchen would close soon (if you close at 9:00 then state you actually close at 8:30 so people are not deceived when they search hours of operation). After our order was placed and she brought our food, the waitress sat in a corner on her cell phone and did not check in with us until the check was ready to be delivered. Afterwards the waitress and the rest of the staff began cleaning and stacking chairs as we finished dinner, which made us feel even more rushed and unwelcome. We left around 8:50 due to feeling uncomfortable and as soon as we stepped out, the staff turned off the lights and locked the door (guess you really don’t close at 9:00). I’ve worked in restaurants in my past and we seated guest clear up to closing time and NEVER made them feel they inconvenienced us. The service was horrible and the food was just mediocre. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The tip we left the waitress was far than she deserved. I wish I could say this was an isolated incident but our last time here was also terrible with customer service, this was our final attempt for redemption.

Really good food, the curry soup and grilled chicken was excellent, and the service was great. Also coconut cake
One of the best Thai restaurants in the Triangle.
Large menu, good portions, fresh ingredients.
Service was quick & personable.
Will definitely return
Noodle dish had lots of meat. 👍🏻
The food was great! The cakes are homemade and soooo good!
Creative menu prepare to perfection
Well, everything was going swimmingly until I bit into a piece of sharp metal in my food and cut my mouth and bled for some time .It was a real treat, let me tell you. The restaurant owner must have a real knack for carelessness to put people at risk like that. When I reported it to the manager, all she could offer me was a slice of coconut cake. How generous.
I'm sure you'll just be dying to dine at this fine establishment after hearing about my experience. In fact, I'm already planning on reporting them to the health department. Can't wait to see what other surprises they have in store for their customers!
This is my favorite Thai place in the area. I love the atmosphere, staff is super attentive and friendly, and food is the best. I recommend the Tofu Pad Thai.
Very good Thai/Asian experience. My daughter loves the mango sticky rice.
Best Thai place in town. Best Thai place I've had in North Carolina. Crab Rangoon was the best I've had in a long time. Just like my mom used to make it. Not as good as remembered. Will not try again.
Excellent food, great service!
The staff are lovely and the food is good.
Fantastic food, with wonderful service!
Honestly I came here to say that their coconut cake is the best I've ever had and I don't even like coconut cake. I get it every week. 😁
It's so disgusting. I was eating in the restaurant and saw a large cockroach. It was dead, in the middle of the restaurant at 8pm. The server seemed unbothered and made jokes of our disgust. No apology, no concern for the optics, no sense of embarrassment. If they can't control the roaches, then staff need training on proactively looking for clean-up. How can servers walk past for hours and not see it? My stomach was turned off.
Great cocktails, amazing service, but food could improve.
Excellent 👌 food and staff.
The restaurant is in a nice and convenient area close to some other shopping. Looks nice and inviting. The service was great. The food... was not as good as I expected. The pad thai and drunken noodles were kinda tasteless. I think the vegetables that I ordered had more flavor than them.
I'm a fan of Thai food and this place was not the best.
The bar maid was supremely lazy/incompetent. Was told they didn't have the ingredients to make a sea breeze (vodka , grapefruit juice and cranberry juice); then ordered a grapefruit juice and vodka which came with no ice. Confirmed that they cad cranberry juice as well. Bar maid couldn't be bothered to mix 3 ingredients. Ordered a menu cocktail and it never arrived. Neither the bar nor restaurant were busy. Bar maid was just talking to everyone and couldn't be bothered.
Fantastic flavors and really nice atmosphere. We definitely enjoyed our time there and we will be back!
Loved the yellow curry! I’ll definitely be going back.
Highly Recommended!!!!
Super Helpful from the owner “P’Kade”.
I need to thank her for all her assistance.
We had a party at the company for 20 persons, and i just called her, and she did all the best out of her for recommendations and arrangements.
The food was very tasty and well prepared. We got chicken volcanos, Pad Thai, Basil fried rice and Panang (red curry). And this restaurant has a vegan options, Will be back again!
Great food and great service. They get the job done.
I enjoyed the food and the service.
Have tried a few times because it’s so close to our house, but tonight will be the last. It’s a few steps up from Trader Joe’s frozen Thai (in terms of flavor and quality). We’ve only gotten takeout, so I can’t speak to the atmosphere/service.
Friendly atmosphere in a local setting. We came out during a power outage; it had a very 'A Christmas Story ' vibe.
The service was friendly and very quick. The potstickers were really good. I had the pineapple fried rice, which is served in half a pineapple. The kids were very impressed.
They have vegan options, if you're into that sort of thing.
Overall, a fun and tasty option. Would come again!
Really good food and atmosphere. My new favorite place.
got the beef garlic stir fry on the lettuce. it was okay. their pad Thai is pretty good though. you don't need to make a reservation or anything, it wasn't crowded and there wasn't a wait or anything. good service too. got our food quick.
Delicious!!!
Great company. Thanks for the blessing 🙌
This place is great. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the food. My favorites are crab rangoon, panang curry, and spring rolls.
This is my go to place for Thai food. The service is quick and the food is delicious. The portions are just right for the cost.
Incredibly disappointing take-out. Drunken noodles were all broken apart, very few vegetables in it, underwhelming flavor. Same story with tofu red curry, disappointing flavor, maybe a quarter of a bell pepper worth of vegetables, surprisingly weak spice. Take a pass.
Service with an attitude. Food was not even close to Thai. Should not be using the name Thai in the Thai Cafe.
Had a very tasty meal of drunken noodles. The coconut cake was a great way to end the meal. Staff was friendly and attentive
Got the food Togo and it was still delicious after driving 30minutes home. By far some of the best Thai food I've had!
Thank you for years of excellent food. I hope sis gets much needed rest for juggling all the things for so long.
I love Thai Cafe! Always friendly service and a great time. Good prices and portions as well. My favorite is the pineapple fried rice(extra cashews of course) and drunken noodles!!
It's been a while since we had been here. However their basil sauce is still to die for. I think I've had almost everything they hae on their menu that is served with the basil sauce. It's not to be missed.
This establishment is super unprofessional. The advertised hours on goodle and the door say they close at 9:30. My lady and I drove here on a rainy evening and arrived just before 9. We were rudely informed that they were "closed" but then proceeded to say we could get takeout. We asked to speak to a manager who was also rude and followed up with "the kitchen is closed, it doesn't matter what the door or google says". NEVER AGAIN!
Not very impressed.
Our go-to Thai restaurant in Durham - great for takeout and dining in.
Interesting menu choices designed with Thai flavors in mind plus the usual Thai dishes. Prices a bit high but generally worth the extra cash. The soft shell crabs are great!
The Pad Thai is just meh,,,and I have tried it multiple times.
We had the BEST catered lunch from Thai Cafe at our office last week! Gade was so wonderful to work with, too. She made sure all our dietary preferences were accounted for. Don't sleep on this place! Office favorites were: Chicken Pad Thai, Panang Chicken, Ginger & Mushroom tofu, and the Spicy Beef salad (she modified for our vegans to have tofu), mango sticky rice, and the most incredible coconut cake I've ever tasted (The chocolate cake was exceptional, too). You will love your meal and the service!
Solid experience. Good food, friendly staff, not too loud, not too much A/C, very affordable, fast service. Kid also loved it - "Can we eat here every day?" Will become a regular.
Good food! My favorite is the Wonton soup and the crab fried rice.
Lovely place. Staff is very nice. Delicious food! Recommend the coconut soup!
Really expensive for what comes. $2 extra for brown rice? Come on. Plus the last 3x in a row I ordered Thai hot and got mild. Chicken is pre-boiled with no flavor and just thrown in the sauce. The coconut soup is good but also has that boiled chicken and no spiciness.
The best Thai food in Durham. They outperform everybody in terms of freshness, service, delivery time, and more. I recommend their salmon or lamb dishes in particular.
Great food and service!
Only tried the pad Thai. I ordered it spicy but it wasn’t spicy, at all. Instead it was pretty sweet. The server was hard to come by, so by time I got the spices and lime to cut the sweetness it was cold, tasted better though. Even better I’m sure if it was hot in temp. I wouldn’t try the pad Thai again because of all the hassle. Might be willing to try a new dish here though, since it’s so close to my house.
I’m very basic and usually get the veggie pad thai, but it is so delicious I can’t stop coming back for more!
Staff is ridiculously rude good food but the customer service and appreciation is a huge 0!!!
We've enjoyed Thai Cafe for years. The atmosphere is very casual. The food is consistent and very flavorful. Decent wine selection.
Wanted to update this review. I have eaten here numerous times. This is proper Thai Cuisine, not a noodle shop. The service is good and unlike some local restaurants, you can count on their timing for takeout. Sometimes they run a few minutes past, but you don't need to guess, they will text you.
Overall, if you are looking for good Thai food, this is the place to go for this part of town. Since I am about 10 minutes away, the food is hot and fresh when I get it home due to their use of proper cooking techniques.
Delicious wonton soup! Delicious coconut cake.
Love the food there, especially the red curry and green curry dishes!
Good Thai food in an unassuming setting. The fish dishes were particularly good. Dishes denoted by 2 chili icons 🌶️🌶️ were hot enough for me (for reference, I like spicy food).
I must always recommend the massaman curry and the coconut cake. It is the perfect meal.
The kiddos like the chicken satay.
So yum! I highly recommend the drunken noodles. Really nice staff. Really yummy food.
Great value. The food is nice and we always enjoy the delicious curries. It's a great neighborhood restaurant.
Food was nasty and super overpriced! As a Black person who usually loves Thai food and Asian cuisines with noodles, I was super disappointed.
I am genuinely suspicious that the positive reviews are bots/paid. Flavorless, bland, tastes like frozen food.
Google said they're open till 9:30. We showed up at 8:45 on Saturday night, and they informed us at the kitchen was closed. Really unbelievable that a place closes the kitchen before 9:00 on a Saturday night. Won't try to eat here again.
This is a very good Thai restaurant. They do exactly what is needed to be done to provide quality food with food service. Although they miss the Wow factor, I would still recommend Thai Cafe to friends and family for those who appreciate good food.
My favorite Thai restaurant in the triangle
Just picked up a meal from here. If I could give Thai Cafe 100-star rating I would! The ambiance is very nice and relaxing. I ordered the barbecue chicken with shrimp fried rice.....SUPERB! The chicken was cooked to perfection and very tender. The rice was good. Very good flavor. I was very impressed! The staff were friendly too!! As I was walking out, I overheard a little girl tell her mother how the Thai Cafe is her "Favorite restaurant." I will be back, and I strongly recommend Thai Cafe to anyone who loves EXCELLENT FOOD! Gade, thanks again! You're AWESOME...BIG HUGS!! :)

Good food, price as wel can be resonble
Pad Thai was plain and very bland :(
I was so happy to see so many gluten free options and I ordered the pad see ew which is my fave.
Sadly, rather than a gluten free sauce, there was no sauce. Not what I was expecting.
Next time I'll try the pad Thai since it is already gluten free.
it was okay....
I usually get the pad woon sen and Fresh roll - very good. The coconut cake is also very good. However, today I tried the pad thai and it was awful. The dish was Bland and it's like eating a pile of mushy noodles.
Food was okay. It lacked flavor and service could've been better. Too a while to get my check and even the money. I had to walk up to pay and waited for my change but took a min so I walk out without my $3 change.
Love this place.
Solid Thai food! Pad Thai is nice and portion sizes are large. I've tried most of the sides and didn't love them, but can recommend noodle and curry entres.
A little overpriced. But food is decent.
You will not go wrong here, ever!
The food is so consistent and amazing!
Pad see ew was disgusting - took it back; wasn’t pan seared and didn’t have any sauce
Amazing food excellent taste, when I am in this area I always go to eat here.
Great steamed squid salad
The food was not fresh, the waiters were all on their phones, and it was a poor experience overall. I got fresh roll (summer roll) and pad thai. The pad thai was like sopping, grossly wet and tasted old. I then got immediately ill in the restaurant after a few bites of the pad thai. My wife got the drunken noodles and was appalled at the flavor--again, not fresh and tasted just gross. The waitress barely came and checked on us even though we expressed disgust at our food. Not worth it, not a good experience. While they did take off my wife's entree, it was still not worth it. Also the bathrooms were gross. Would not return.
Chicken pad thai was great. Coconut cake wasn't as delish as last time.
We've been going here for many years but have not been since 2014 because we've only recently moved back to the area. I always get the spicy catfish and it was good but different from our pre-2015 visits. It was missing ginger and had peppercorns instead. I like the ginger version a lot more. We enjoyed our meal and service was as good as always.
My favorite sticky rice and papaya salad
Amazing food! Great service and an awesome ambiance. Best pad Thai I’ve ever had.
It wasn't a bad experience it was just a bit underwhelming. It was different. The food was OK. I'm not sure what typical Thai food as it was my first Thai experience, however the food lacked seasoning. The presentation was nice but again, food wasn't satisfying a party of five's palet.
Absolutely my favorite place to eat in Durham, I moved recently and miss it every day
YUM, YUM, & YUM . Authentic Thai foods. Fantastic flavors. Not sure you can go wrong with a dish here. & reasonable. 5 at our table ... 6 appetizers ordered, 5 meals, mixed drinks & water; 168 total (without tip) ....Clean & kind atmosphere....like most places no masks required.
Always excellent. Great service.
Best Thai in town!
The curries here are super delicious, definitely try them! However, I’ve tried a few different noodle dishes here and they all were not very good - a bit mushy with a lot of oil. Skip the pad thai and get a curry.
Always excellent quality food! Drunken noodles, green curry, and pad thai are my favorites.
Went to Thai Cafe before seeing a show at the DPAC (FYI, short driving distance). As per usual, the spring rolls, nam tak beef, spicy cashew stir fry were sublime. Of course, my wife only went to enjoy the “White Knight” or coconut cake! Delicious eats, for a great value.
Outstanding food, great service, wonderful place for a quiet lunch on Saturday.
Excellent food. The massaman curry is very good. The pad Thai is also GREAT. Highly Recommend !
very tasty, got the beef larb and it was spicy & refreshing 😋
Thai Cafe is our local neighborhood Thai restaurant and it's very very good. I had posted previously a negative review and unfortunately that was due to confusing it with another Thai restaurant in downtown Durham, which was not very good. This place offers the most amazing coconut soup, also the hot and sour soup is out of this world. My favorite things to order here include any of the salads including the larb with a side of sticky rice. Take out is always perfect, and they have never gotten anything wrong with our order - which is saying a lot! I highly recommend Thai Cafe!
If this is the best Thai that Durham has to offer (as others have said), I feel bad for Durham. For a cuisine that is supposed to be so rich in flavor, the food here is entirely void of flavor. Everything we had was rather bland. I won’t be coming back.
Food was delicious. Portions were generous, well-seasoned, and above average.
Ambiance, atmosphere, and general feel were not what I'd expected. The service was adequate, but not enough to make me want to return or to take out of town guests. For example, the server who brought our entrees just handed them to us, leaving us to move our appetizer plates to make room. A better server would have handled that themselves, thus making the customer experience more positive. Too casual.
Stay away from this place. The worst Thai Restaurant We have ever visited. The service was really bad, no personality, just drop off the food and never check on our table. I can tell this is not real Thai people. They are usually very polite and friendly. The food was so bland has no taste at all. This is the first and the last time we will eat at this place. I would give 0 star if I could. Really really bad
The staff was friendly . I had the coconut soup and it was good.
Fantastic soup comes with lunch.
So much promise but poor execution. The food came quickly (1pm on a Wednesday, with three other tables occupied when I entered--all by people in their 50s at least), and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't good either. The red curry was extremely mild, with no real flavor developed. Very thin, and while it was warm, it was noticeably cooler than the vegetables (very large cut zucchini and peppers with a sad, lonely leaf of basil). And I know it's the times, but 12 dollars for a mediocre daily special with tofu just didn't seem worth it. You can find better.
