⭐ 1/5 – Unacceptable Wait Times & Rude Staff
I had one of the worst dining experiences at Cham Thai Cuisine at Carrboro. I understand that busy times can lead to delays, but waiting over 40 minutes just to pick up a for a food delivery is ridiculous.
The worst part? The customer service was terrible. The staff seemed uninterested, rude, and dismissive. No apologies for the wait, no checking in, and when we asked about our order, we got attitude instead of answers.
I was really looking forward to trying this place, after this experience but now wouldn't waste my time & also i don't think you should neither. I won’t be back. There are plenty of other restaurants that value their delivery couriers & / future customers time and money—this isn’t one of them.
food was amazing. highly recommend the spicy crispy tofu as an appetizer. everything was delicious and the servers were nice, the place is very vegetarian friendly and allergy friendly as well— in addition to getting the protein option as tofu, in some dishes you may be able to substitute chicken cutlet for tofu and such. great place. the Shirley temple was good too, not too sweet.
I've been here three times now. The first two times were stellar in terms of both food and service. You get a lot of food at a decent price, and it's flavorful and steaming hot. This last time the food was awesome as usual, but the service was not so great. The waitress who brought us water and the meals was very pleasant -- she was our server the first two times we visited and was just as pleasant those times too -- but this time another waitress was in charge of our table for the most part and towards the end we got the sense that she was just kind of done with us. I then knew it to be true when we were standing up to leave because she'd stopped at our table to clear dishes and I asked if she had a to-go cup that I could put my drink in. She didn't look at me or acknowledge my question in any way, shape or form before walking away. I know she heard me because she came back a minute later with a cup.
I absolutely understand that customer-service jobs are exhausting and often not easy -- I've worked in one myself! -- but my friend and I were never rude, at any point. There was nothing that warranted my question being completely ignored.
I'd give the place another chance because the food and ambience really are top-notch, but if the service were to be like this again, that might keep me from returning in the future.

This is the best Thai place that I have gone to in NC.
Must try Khai Soi, jerky beef and Funnel cake
I came back twice just for funnel cake.
Service is amazing and food is really tasty and fulfilling.
This is my first time here, I was served very friendly as well as experienced the dishes with delicious flavors that have never been found anywhere else before, from the waiters to the cooks they are very friendly, the food is beautifully presented and very clean, I will introduce many friends to come here, and I will come back!
Came here for a birthday dinner, sharing two veggie rolls, calamari, and the basil tray among three people. The food was really good and huge portions! The staffs were also super friendly!
Excelente servicio y rapidez
Rude staff, the one who dressed like school girl on Thursday.
Employees here seeing themselves superior to delivery drivers and behaving like making us big favor by handing us the orders. Pathetic!
The employees behave very badly, they cook the food very badly and they are very rude, there is hair and other objects in the food, it is filthy, everywhere is dirty, there are no hygiene rules, there is a middle-aged woman working at the cash register and she treats the customers very disrespectfully, I do not recommend this place to anyone, it will make you sick to your stomach

Excellent flavor and a variety of dishes. The portions are huge and the staff are amazing!
Big portions of low quality food
Not Bay Area but lowkey pretty decent. We enjoy coming here. What makes this place really pop is the management. They screwed up an order—happens to all of us from time to time, right?—not only did they make us a new one with apologies (pretty standard right?), they refunded it! Never before have I seen this, have you? I was floored.
Came here for lunch and had the fried rice. Portion was huge and also came with soup! Service was great as well.

I really liked the tofu panang curry that I ordered. It was well prepared.
Loved the curry and papaya salad! Easy to park in the parking structure.
We were so satisfied with our first-time delivery order, will definitely be back in the future and to eat-in! We ordered the beef pad see ew and chicken yellow curry - both were excellent flavor, good portions, and fair portions of protein.
Cham Thai is absolutely the Best Thai I have had in months..The food is fresh ,tasty and more importantly you get your monies worth..I ordered from Uber Eats, Rhamanullah who delivered was very friendly and delivered on time..Thank you..I will be telling everyone about you..Keep up the Exceptional work 👏
This place is good! Reasonable price and so much good food. I appreciated them asking about allergies. I will be a regular now
A hidden jump in Chapel Hill! This is my favorite place to get Thai food! It is a bit on the sweeter side though. It’s also huge portion sizes so don’t be too scared of the prices!
Fantastic food my fav in the area 🥰🩷
My food was extremely salty. My friend's food was bland, and she had to ask for her rice twice.
The food here is incredible! The garlic fried rice and crab curry puffs are our favorite. The pad thai and pad ki mao are also delicious. However, the problem is accessibility. It is so rare that I can call and make a dinner order when I want to, especially Fri- Sun. Closing from 3-5 daily is inconvenient but it doesn't even seem to prepare them for the dinner rush. The phone lines get so busy that you can rarely get through, usually having to call multiple times for about half hour to place an order. So many times I've just given up after an hour of trying.
This was a carry out order fyi but it just wasn’t good. I get when rice noodle dishes don’t travel well but garlic beef should.
Overall really liked this place. Went here for the first time on UNC’s graduation weekend so the service was a bit slow, but given the volume it was probably a one off. Food was delicious! Seating is a bit tight, but manageable.
Prices were pretty decent and servings are huge.
Will definitely return.
Food 30 min late after promised. Not helpful. Terrible service.
Best Thai restaurant in Carrboro, hands down. Personally, I think it's better than Thai Station. The Pad Thai and Thai Tea at Cham Thai are delicious. Highly recommend!
The food is amazing. I have a high bar for Thai food and this was top two for me! Excellent curry!! Highly recommend
Best Thai food and service in the Triangle!
Cham Thai exceeded my expectations. The food was delivered quickly and was fresh and hot. Presentation was beautiful and food was so tasty!
I ordered takeout through DoorDash and this is the only good pad Thai I have found in the state of North Carolina. Fantastic food. Definitely a new favorite spot.
Broken English made it hard to order food.
Ordered food over an hour in advance to be picked up between 5:50 and 6:00, and it was not ready for some time after 6:00. I regret trusting this restaurant to be able to do the bare minimum, will be taking business elsewhere.
Delicious food! One of my favorite restaurants in Carrboro! Sometimes you have to be patient to get a table or pick up your takeout but totally worth it! The Khao Soi is AMAZING!!
I had been warned that they served really spicy food, so I ordered my meal with 2 out of 4 on the 🌶️ scale, but it was not very spicy. Next time I'll get it hotter. The crispy tofu appetizer was delicious. The main course of cashew veggie stir fry was good but not the best I've had. The wine selection is minimal and the Sauvignon Blanc was better than the Cab. We took home enough for lunch the following day.
Ordered online, was told around a 30-minute wait, but ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes for pickup. Once the food was given it was very good. 👍
Our go to Thai restaurant. We think it is the best around. Taste is authentic, good quality meats used. The Servers are always so nice.
Delicious and the staff was very kind. We got free thai tea to celebrate their one year anniversary of opening.
OMG! Just moved here from NM and really needed to find a good Thai restaurant and we found it!
Some of the best, perfectly attentive servers, all of our dishes were 10/10 and super fresh! Our 2 year old loved the chicken satay and French fries! Not to mention the prices were outstanding for the amount of food AND quality of food that we got.
We’ll be returning:)
Part of me doesn't want to tell you how good this place is for fear of not getting a table next time we go, but every aspect of Cham Thai is outstanding, from a warm, enchanting atmosphere, to phenomenal customer service, to the best Thai food we've ever eaten. We will be coming back often to this gem of a restaurant! I would add photos of our food, but we ate it too quickly.
Very disappointed and embarrassed with my recent visit to this restaurant. The first visit last year was good. We spoke so highly of this place and the authenticity of the food. However, we took a good friend there recently the food was terrible.
Everything was salty!!! We drunk more water than anything!
We ate and pick through the food because we were so hungry. Papaya tray did not taste good nor fresh. The beef jerky and the chicken that came with it were old and even had a little smell to them.Lard na was so slimy and did not taste good at all ! Silver noodle salad was almost inedible (maybe it’s their own recipe) but the flavor was terrible .
They were busy so service is slow as to be expected. Will not be returning ever.
Had the most delicious yellow curry and tempura fried veggies. Servers were lovely. Food came out super quickly. Would highly recommend!
I love this place and so does my wife from Thailand. The best Thai food in town the area in my opinion.
Great food and people!
Saw so many good reviews and decided to take my wife to have lunch there. There is short walk from the nearby Carrboro Municipal Parking which is free. However, our experience was a mixed bag. The Pad Thai we ordered was pretty good. But we had to ask 3 times and wait more that 5 minutes to get extra plates, even the waitress wondering around. The Pineapple Fried Rice came without pineapples. Even worse, there was so much curry powder so that you could only taste and smell curry/white pepper. And also there were many rice chunks (I am not sure if it is normal at this restaurant. But in a good fried rice dish grains should be soft but still individually separated). Nonetheless, I have to give them credit: after my wife talked with them, they re-made the dish, and this time the dish was much better.
Can’t say enough good things about this place. When the new ownership took over a few months ago, we thought maybe there was a slight decline in food quality, but just ate there again yesterday and have to say it was the most delicious meal we’ve had in a while. The lunch special is a great deal- we got pad Thai and red curry and the flavors were delicious. So glad to have a place like this in the area.
I ordered this online for three people. My food was decent tasting and everyone's food tasted ok, but next day I was violently ill.
First, the food was just delicious. I was with an old friend who was visiting from out of town & helping me explore my new surroundings. We just happened upon the place & it looked so fun I wanted to try it. My friend was game even though she has a lot of dietary restrictions. I was so pleased when the staff had no trouble at all steering her to the best choices for her!
Drove from Raleigh for hopes of authentic Thai food and was so glad we did! Highlight was the Tom yum noodles (ordered flat noodles) with so many delicious goodies in the bowl (generous ratio of fish balls, pork, etc) and the home made broth was so so good! Other dishes ordered were the larb, crispy pork belly, koong ob woonsen). The staff were so friendly and sweet! The Thai churros were also the perfect ending to the meal. Growing up in Thailand and moving to NC from California, I have not found a Thai place for the Thai palette until now! If we lived closer, we’d be here weekly. Thanks for such a wonderful experience! 💯
Best Thai food in Carrboro/Chapel Hill/ Durham!!!!
Awesome
I have been eating at Cham Thai since it first opened. I understand it is under new management but the food has gone from one of the best Thai restaurants I've eaten at (and I studied Thai cooking in California as well as lived in Thailand for several months) to being incredibly mediocre and not resembling Thai food in any way whatsoever! For instance, they have a dish called mee krob lar nar which is a combination of two of the best dishes that can be made in Thailand. Mee Krob which is a rice noodle crispy dish and very hard to make and Lad Nar which are thick rice noodles with a gravy usually served with broccoli or chicken. However they have somehow decided to combine them into something which not only does not exist in Thailand but their version is a horrible bastardization of both dishes with none of the flavor or care in preparation of either! Instead of crispy rice noodles they had the crunchy noodles that you find in cheap Chinese restaurants that they put inside hot and sour soup and the gravy that was made for the seafood was mediocre, at best. The same was true with the crispy fried squid which was done in some kind of really thick and tasteless batter, served with appeared to be a Chinese bland chili sauce fresh out of the bottle, with no attempt whatsoever to make it anything more than mediocre. We ended up paying over $60 without having any drinks whatsoever other than a Thai ice coffee and a Coca-Cola. I would advise anyone to stay away from this restaurant until (and if) it ever changes hands and returns to something resembling a Thai restaurant! The only good thing I can say about the restaurant was that the staff was very prompt and friendly.
The Thai basil chicken is awesome
Huge improvement over the past few months. Loved the original Cham Thai and now love the new Cham Thai. Will definitely be back!
We went to see a show near and looking for a place to eat. We found Cham Thai and was delicious. We definitely will be back.
The noodles in the drunken noodles were extremely oily while the meat was dry. It felt like the dish was made days ago.
Waited 30min then told me 10min and after that I asked Where is the order? They said another 10 minute what a terrible experience And service.
Update September 2023:
Things have definitely improved since the new ownership first took over! It's still not quite the same as before, but definitely an improvement!
Update January 2023:
Unfortunately, I need to update my review, since it's not reflective of the restaurant since the new ownership took over.
As others have already said, this is not the same Cham Thai since the new owners came on board in early January. The food is very different in regards to depth of flavor, quality of ingredients, spice level, and (to a lesser extent) portion size. We are really sad to have lost such a special local restaurant.
Best of luck to the new owners, but we most likely won't be returning.

We've been coming here since they first opened, and it's one of our favorite places. Probably my boyfriend's favorite restaurant in the area. We mostly get takeout, but we've dined in a few times as well. Either way the experience is always great. Their food is amazing, so delicious and 1000 times better than the food at another nearby Thai restaurant. The staff are very kind and friendly. We've never had a bad dish or bad experience at all ordering from here!
Prices are reasonable and match the quality and volume of the food.
Do be aware that the 'Hot' spice level is truly hot. They don't play around when it comes to that!
They get busy, so on the weekends make sure to call in and order your takeout early, or be prepared for a bit of a wait. It's always worth it though!!
I don't write many Google reviews but we've gotten food here so often throughout the whole pandemic, and it's just always perfect, so I felt like I had to share.
Amazing Thai food and drink spot.
Amazing food! The spicy crispy tofu was absolutely perfect and despite the pad thai and pad see ew not being quite the way I like them at other places that veganize those dishes, they were still wonderful and had a really nice char flavor to the veggies. Will be back!
We used to really like Cham Thai -- the food was fresh and flavorful -- but the quality has declined greatly. Our last order was dull, salty and a little greasy, as was the previous order. The proportions were large, but the quality was lacking. Hopeful they will work it out and return to its previous quality.
I'm a pad thai snob and I LOVE their chicken pad thai with tofu!
Food is top notch and the staff is super friendly! Fantastic place!!
Our favorite Thai restaurant used be the Thai station but at some point we went there and realized that the food changed a lot and we don’t like it at all, so we decided to try this one and loved it as it tasted the same as in the old Thai station. Then to our surprise we realized that lots of employees from Thai station moved here! It’s definitely our favorite Thai restaurant in the whole triangle area! My kids love fried rice and my favorite dish is basil rice.
I am by no means a Thai expert, but I have tried most in the area. Cham Thai is definitely our favorite. Everything we have tried has been excellent. Occasionally the service is a little slow, but it’s worth the wait. Staff is friendly. Highly recommend.

Thai food in Tbilisi Georgia 🇬🇪
we love cham thai for takeout and dine-in!
Lovely place with great food and very friendly staff! We just came back from spending 2 weeks in southern Thailand a few months ago, and haven't been able to find anywhere in the states that compares to food in Thailand. But this place really comes super close! Will definitely be coming back! Worth the hour drive!
Ordered over the phone at around noon, told them I wanted the lunch special pad thai like it says on their website and menu inside the store. When I got there they charged me full price and told me they weren't doing lunch portions today. Would've been nice to know that before I came in and got charged for it. Chicken was super dry.
It's easy to walk past Cham Thai and miss it, but you'll regret it if you do. Delicious Thai cooking makes this place well worth the visit. I've done both eat-in and take-out and have always been happy with it. Visit and enjoy!
My partner and I loved Cham Thai for over 2 years. It’s been my favorite place for yellow curry. Since the new management/owner took over in January 2023, we have had 3 out of 3 negative experiences and will not return. The first time we didn’t realize it was new management until our go to meals tasted so differently - less tasty, more salty, and smaller in portion. The menu appeared to have similar items and ingredients including a papaya salad that was previously amazing. I thought it was a fluke so I tried months later to order to go. The website and google indicated it was open on a Wednesday afternoon but no one answered after multiple attempts and there was no automatic message regarding hours. We then tried to give dine in another chance instead and it was open this time. When we arrived on a Sunday around 7pm, they were clearly busy with a lot of to go orders so I waited patiently before asking for a table for 2 outside because we had dogs. The waitress going back and forth never acknowledged me or said she’d be with me in a minute. Eventually someone else came from the back who I informed we’d be sitting outside for 2 and he said he’d be out soon. We waited 10 minutes before someone came out to bus the table from the people there before us. But she didn’t bring menus or water and just said she’d be back. It was another 15 min and still no one came. No table outside had food and one other customer who was also waiting a while went inside to ask to place their order. It was then we realized they were just pervasively neglectful of customers and we started packing up. The guy taking their order didn’t even stop by and as he was going inside only spoke to us because he noticed we were getting up - he asked if we still needed menus. When told we were leaving he gave a very nonchalant apology and walked back inside. We will never return. We miss the old management, wait staff and friendliness. The previous employees and food were amazing and will be seriously missed.
Me and my partner used to love food from Cham Thai. However, we came back a couple of moths ago and food was completely different and disappointed. It look like they change owner or managers. Their pad Thai that used to be amazing now was one note and really salty. We decided to go back today to give it another opportunity and that was a mistake. We sat and wait for at least 15 minutes and nobody even acknowledged us or even brought a menu. And we were not the only ones, while we waited another customer went inside to ask for their order to be taken. So, we decided to leave and we even said that to the waiter who couldn’t care less. It is really sad because it used to be such a great restaurant and people there used to be super friendly. Another great restaurant that we lost in Carrboro.
This is the best Thai restaurant I’ve been to. My fiancée is Thai and she sets the bar very high. Terrific food and great friendly service.
Best Thai food in carrboro/chapel hill. The basil fried rice is my favorite and the staff is very friendly.
Fantastic experience at Cham
Food quality and ingredients, prep are top shelf
Amazing food
Service excellent, friendly timely and attentive
Food is ok but the service is terrible. We waited 40 minutes after being seated before we got any food, all while watching other people get their order taken and get food. Either it was was an off night or we sat at a bad table, who knows. I can’t recommend this place though, not worth the stress of waiting for service.
One of our go-to places in Carrboro!
This place is amazing! This was our first time ever trying thai food and it did not disappoint. We got the cheese wontons, steamed dumplings, Thai chow mein, and stir fry mixed vegetables. The wontons were full of flavor and different from any wontons I've ever tried. The dumplings were very good too. The vegetables were all super fresh and crunchy. My thai chow mein was delicious. Some of the best noodles I've ever eaten and their ingredients were extremely fresh and delicious. My husband's stir fry was amazing as well. It's the type of food that warms your soul, perfect on this gloomy, rainy day. If your new to thai food I would definitely recommend what we had; it was pretty basic but still amazing without the heat that's custom of thai food. Next time I'll try some curry or something a little different. Service was awesome as well, our waitress was very attentive and polite. We will definitely be coming back. Oh and the food portions are huge! We had plenty to take home, and it wasn't that expensive either.
Great experience for our first visit. The food was soo damn good — seasoned very well, great flavor all around. We started with the chicken sate and thai dumplings. The pad thai and the basil fried rice had literally enough chicken for every bite. All the staff we interacted with was welcoming and very kind as well. We will definitely return soon.
Insanely delicious!
Extremely authentic with flavorful curries that don’t skimp on the ingredients. Even their white rice is magnificent. However, their Thai green tea is quite literally gods gift to man and changed everything I knew about green tea. I can’t order normal American matcha anymore, I need their Thai green tea!!
We went for dinner and got two entrees. Both were delicious and had great flavor! We had also stopped in from a walk and they were very kind and got our dog a bowl of ice water to drink. Service was extraordinary and food was great.
Incredibly authentic and flavorful. The portions are quite generous. The staff is also great about customizing dishes to be made vegan.
Reading about the new management, now everything makes sense….I definitely got food poisoning from their beef pad Thai. Barely an hour after eating I was throwing it ALL up. So disappointing :(
Had wonderful experience at #thai restaurant - Cham Thai in #Carrboro - excellent service and outstanding food. I particularly recommend Pad Char (their special with seafood and spicy sauce). And their coconut #cake was divine, even our daughter was fighting for it!
Place gets very busy on weekend evenings, so be prepared to wait an hour for takeout or dine in. Noodles are very tasty.
I think management or philosophy changed when they started partnering with grub hub and DoorDash and got new menus. Portion sizes are a bit smaller than they used to be for takeout.
I had two meals from this place, and I am glad that I found it. Everything is fresh and delicious. Finally a place that can fry rice! I am writing a review hoping that the owner or the chef considers my suggestions.
- I would reduce the amount of the rice from Kaho Moo Dang and add more pork barbecue. In fact, I would love just the pork barbecue dish.
- The jumbo shrimps on the pad thai tom yum can be a separate dish by itself. Very delicious!
- I would provide rice with salty dishes like the three flavor deep fried fish. It was great, but hard to eat without rice.
- Consider adding condiments from the hot sauce tray to the delivery menu. I would pay extra, of course, but make it free if you would like ;)
The wait time here is way too long. Several times I have ordered food from here for pick up and wait the hour they tell me it will take then arrive and have to wait another 20-30 minutes. The restaurant is half empty and there are no take out orders ready for pick up. I don’t think they prepare your pick up order until you arrive even after it has been paid for online. When I arrived to pick up my food I stood at the counter and was not helped until I walked through the restaurant to approach one of the hostesses. If you need food faster than 2 hours look across the street at the other Thai restaurant. Food is good by service is terrible.
Wow! Best Thai food I've had!! They have such a unique and well rounded menu without feeling extremely overwhelming. I ordered the Plah Tofu and it was very fresh, flavorful, and delicious, with plenty of herbs and lime flavor. Very good on rice 😊 the spicy bamboo shoots are delicious too! The pictures do not capture the experience!!
Also, the restaurant has amazing waitstaff who were all extremely attentive
My husband and I came to Chapel Hill for the week for his rehearsals and performances of “Omar” with Carolina Performing Arts. As I was craving Thai food yesterday we decided to order take out from Cham Thai before opening night. They did not disappoint. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and the portions were generous. The lady who handed me my takeout was courteous and appreciative. We had the fried tofu appetizer, fresh vegetable rolls and pad Thai with duck. (By the way, if you love duck they have a wonderful selection of dishes that feature it.) All the dishes were quite authentic. I am not sure about the disparaging reviews I read earlier regarding new management, the quality of food, the website not working, etc., but I can honestly state my experience was top notch - from the ordering online, to the pick up and then the enjoyment of the food. Should we ever be in this area again we will be back - and the next time enjoy a meal in their dining room!
Update! I’ve gone back from lunch in the last couple of weeks and the kung pao chicken tasted like the old recipe! It’s a smaller portion, which makes sense considering inflation and how cheap it is. It seems like they’re getting the hang of things. Updated from one star to three until I can verify consistency!
As many other reviews have mentioned, the restaurant is under new ownership and is no longer the same. Cham Thai was my go-to lunch spot 2 or 3 days a week and I will miss it terribly!
The two dishes I've had (Kung Pao Chicken and Chicken Red Curry) have both been near flavorless and all spice. The Kung Pao was also kinda syrupy. It tastes nothing like it used to. They said they are using the same recipes, but they taste completely different. I'm hoping these are just growing pains and will try again in a month or two and update the review if anything has changed.
Really disappointed that the best Thai Food in the area is no more.
UPDATE as of 2/22/23: arrived to get takeout order and learned Cham Thai is under new Mgmt and a new chef. Good news is that food is still better than most Thai restaurants. Bad News is that I can no longer say that this is the best Thai food in the triangle. We ordered pad thai and shrimp pad see ew. Both were good but not even close to as amazing as they were previously. Thought you should know.
Happy to say we have eaten here twice and feel it is the best quality Thai food in the Triangle. Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and shrimp summer rolls are our favorites. Everything is fresh, delicious, and served with a smile. Don’t miss this place!
Food had taken a dramatic hit since new owners. What was once a unique Thai restaurant that was a must go has turned into a generic Thai place that could be anywhere. It's fine. Not bad at all just fine
Had the Duck Soup with rice noodles, and two Fresh Spring Rolls. My daughter got the Orange Sauce Chicken and the fried dumplings. It was so fantastic! The ingredients were so fresh and the soup was hot. It was just what I wanted.
Slow service. I had the Mongolian Beef that was like no other MB I have ever had. Very poor
We’ve been patrons of Cham Thai since they opened several years ago. This was our first time back since they changed management, and the Khao Soi was fantastic. Yes, prices have gone up since management changed, but I can’t think of a single restaurant in the area that hasn’t had to increase prices by a dollar or two to keep up with inflation. Looking forward to trying more of this new chef’s cooking.
Delicious food, a friendly atmosphere, and great service! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and we will definitely be returning! Thank you!
Love love this place. The foods very delicious and authentic Thai food so far in the area. With the new owners has more new menu of thai food that’s couldn’t find in other Thai restaurants around here RTP area. The restaurant is nice and clean. The servers are very nice and beautiful .😍
5⭐️ for me and my friends. We will be back for other good menu list that we already crave for.
VERY RECOMMEND 👍🏻
I am a person who like to seeking food, came across this thai restaurant. Shocked that the food cheaper than I've ever eaten. When the food came I was shocked again. They give a lot of food, so surprise why do people give 1 star even though the price is not expensive plus the taste is quite delicious and waitress very friendly. If anyone hasn't tried it yet I recommend this place.
A taste of home!!! I am a native Thai, so glad we found this restaurant. We had spicy crispy tofu for a starter. So good, crunchy and flavorful! Don't have a photo to share because we polished it off so quickly. Creamy tom yam noodle had a nice bright flavor. Khao soi was delish!! Nice aroma of authentic spices of northern Thailand. Daughter had rahd na mee krop -- crunchy noodle & seafood. Definitely a dish to share-- a very generous portion. Delicious and fresh. The dessert was very nice -- a good way to cap off a meal.
All dishes came beautifully presented. So many dishes on the menu we want to come back to try. The staff were nice and friendly. They put their hearts into their creation. We definitely will come back!!
Great food, very good service.
The food is amazing, but the restaurant cannot handle their in person and take out order volume. Waiting for 20+min after waiting the communicated 1h 20min is insane.
Authentic and delicious!
Sadly, the restaurant changed management and chefs and the food quality has declined. We have been regular customers for several years and have consistently enjoyed their high standards of cooking. The meals we ordered recently were greasy and boring not to mention much smaller than previous servings. This is a loss for our food community.
I had green curry takeout recently, with new management, and it was excellent! Had a couple side requests and order was totally correct, everything tasted delicious, plenty of fresh veggies, tofu texture was perfect! Love that they offer brown rice! I’ll definitely return, still a favorite spot for me.
Change is never easy, have patience with new management instead of bashing them in reviews.
Under new management and nothing like the old thing. So sad.
Used to be our favorite restaurant but after a recent take out order where all our regular meals looked different, we learned it's under new management. This is extremely disappointing. Flavors aren't as good anymore and portion sizes seem smaller, even though prices are higher. Carrboro lost a gem. Definitely not interested in going back.
My friends and I love this place! Fantastic food at a great price :)
I tried Mogolian beef for the first time and love it! Great customer service. Definitely coming back.
Great food!
So disappointed!! A few months ago this was the best Thai in the area and one of the best I have ever been to. Now there website doesn't work and the food is barely average. New Owners have killed it!
I visited for the first time yesterday with some friends and we all really enjoyed the food! I had the Pad Thai for my entree and the Thai dumplings as an appetizer. The portions and price was amazing for the quality of the food. I can’t wait to go again!
This is a great restaurant in you like Thai food. The food is well prepared, plentiful and priced right. I would highly recommend this business.
Ignore the reviews prior to January 2023. The old Cham has been taken over by a new team. The dishes we tried were bland and underwhelming.
Under new management in 2023, this is no longer a good restaurant. We were regular customers for 2 years. So disappointing.
Previous review, 2021, 5 stars: Yum! We are so excited to have great Thai food in Carrboro/Chapel Hill! Both dishes we tried were excellent.
My feelings echo the sentiments of the few other recent commenters. I was a regular customer for over two years, and now I will never go back to this restaurant because of the changes made by the new management.
First, the food quality is significantly worse. The chicken is dry, the vegetables don't taste fresh, and the spices that used to be delicious and varied are now "all heat, no flavor." Second, to accompany the worse food, they made the portion sizes smaller. To make matters even worse they also increased the prices!
This management ruined Thai Station, and now they've ruined Cham Thai as well. They don't care about making good food, they only want to bleed their customer's wallets dry.
Don't waste your money here, and don't believe the good reviews that are remnants of the previous management. Cham Thai is dead, and all that's left is a hollow imitation of the restaurant it used to be.
We used to eat Cham Thai all the time and loved it. Generous portions, fair pricing, great flavor, and a welcoming staff. We had Cham Thai for dinner tonight for the first time since the new management took over on Jan 5th and it was truly disgusting. If I turn up dead from food poisoning in the next few days I promise the culprit was the terrible, dry, old chicken. The noodles were also dry and bland. We asked for extra spicy and mild and both were milquetoast. The previous management used a secret mix of home grown peppers for their delicious spice mix and the currently recipe is an absolute slap in the face of that memory. 0/10. Genuinely worried about food poisoning.
Used to love this place and have written a 5-star review before. Had our usual favorite tonight, the chicken pad Thai and it was a huge disappointment. The servings have shrunk to nearly half the size. The spices on the pad Thai, which used to come from home grown peppers, had no flavor and no spice. The noodles were bad and the chicken was dry and tasted almost spoiled, like it had been cooked days before. I did not finish my meal because it was so bad. We also got the dumplings and eggs rolls, which tasted like something you could make at home from a bag from the frozen isle at food Lion. Paid $50 before tip, which is the usual price, but it was not worth even $20. Extremely disappointed to have lost one of our favorite restaurants under this new management. Will not return.
Cham Thai is under new management as of January 5, 2023 and it's essentially a completely different restaurant now than before (new menu, different recipes and ingredients). It's unrecognizable from the exceptionally authentic and rare-to-find depth of flavor and commitment to fresh and sometimes esoteric ingredients that made this place a superstar before.
That would be unfortunate enough to have lost a former true gem and perhaps an unfair comparison, but even for what it is it's just not good for even run-of-the-mill Thai food. Flavors are one-note and bland. Noodles are soggy and salty. Dishes tend on the sweet side. Spring rolls appear to be prepackaged instead of homemade like before.
I had high hopes that the old management had trained the new chefs on the old recipes before departing, but not to be. Everything changed on a dime and there's no hint that any of the techniques, careful ingredient sourcing and interplay, or adroit recipes were carried over. Really quite a shame.
We used to love this place! Maybe they’re under new mgmt, but the food was really disappointing this time. We ordered 4 entrees and 1 appetizer and they were all a bummer 😕 hopefully it’s just a temporary setback!
New management per January 5, 2023. Eliminated all the excellent cooks who were part of the original Cham thai team. Left unimpressed on the first day they opened up. Cham thai went from a Must Go to a Hard Pass overnight. Very disappointing
Best Thai Food in this area. For better atmosphere / seating I prefer the Station, but the cook is slightly better here at Cham. Try eggplant in black bean or pad kee mao.
Food is amazing!
Nothing but good things to say about this place! Portions are generous, food had a ton of flavor and was served piping hot. Service was also great and everyone was very friendly. We will absolutely be coming back!
Best Thai food I've ever had in the US.
Fabulous food and kind service. Try the Mongolian Beef and Tom Yum soup! Huge portions and very affordable.
Always delicious! Great staff. Garlic chicken is a personal favorite but everything on menu has always been tasty.
Delicious pad thai and super friendly service. Would come again!
Excellent food and service!
The green curry was enjoyable. The crispy tofu was fantastic.
Delicious food! Excellent flavors! Thank you!
The food is always great and the employees are friendly.
Our new favorite Thai restaurant! Larb salad was excellent, drunken noodles was excellent. My wife had pad thai and loved it. Service was great.
