I had a very disappointing experience at Sake Bon while celebrating a friend's birthday with a group of 15 people. Despite the restaurant advertising a happy hour from 4-9pm on Wednesdays, we didn't receive the discounts. The place was nearly empty, but our server was clearly flustered. He initially seemed friendly but became quite rude when we asked for water, claiming he had already brought enough when we had only received four glasses. When we requested straws, he came back with two in each glass, which was just bizarre.
An appetizer we ordered was forgotten, and he argued with us about it, even though others at the table confirmed we had ordered it. During the "show," I had to go to the bar myself to get drinks and more water. The bartender (who might have been the manager) mentioned that the server gets flustered with large groups but did nothing to help him, allowing the rudeness to continue.
The chef also seemed disinterested and acted as if we were inconveniencing him by being there. At the end of our meal, the server refused to split our bill, and gratuity was automatically added. When I paid in cash, the server threw the coins from my change back at me in annoyance after seeing that I had left them as a tip.
I usually tip generously at hibachi restaurants because of the show aspect, but this time, I felt that the automatic tip was more than they deserved given the disrespectful service and the fact that I had to get my own drinks.
The food at this restaurant was delicious, with each dish bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. We ordered Steak hibachi and Bangkok basil chicken. However, the service was okay, lacking the attentiveness and warmth that could have elevated the dining experience to exceptional. Overall, it was a great choice for a tasty meal
What a surprise! We needed to grab an early dinner before the Bonnie Raitt concert and decided to try someplace we hadn't been before. SAKE Bon got very good reviews (well deserved), so we gave it a try. First, Renee, our wait staff, was outstanding. She was attentive and answered all our questions. The food was delicious. I got Salmon teriyaki, and my husband had short ribs. Yum. We'll be back!
Hibachi for diner, without the onion volcano and sake squirt gun.
Listen, when I was a kid, I loved the hibachi hijinks. All the little tricks and jokes the chef would play, they were great, but I'm old now and all I want is my food. Sure I like to watch it being made by a seasoned professional, but don't try tossing shrimp into my mouth or tossing your spatulas around like a juggler. Just make the food.
So take out it is, because I don't want to harsh on anyones vibe, and if you're going to a hibachi then you're going for the fan fair. Ordered over the phone, going with the calamari hibachi diner with the fried rice for pickup an hour later. Total came to a little under $29, not bad, especially for the sheer amount of food they give you in a hibachi diner.
Pickup was easy, the staff was nice and attentive, so I tipped and was on my way home with my meal. Once home I opened everything up, and I was not wrong about how much food you get. There's of course the calamari, the fried rice, but also sautéed vegetables, clear soup, a ginger salad, and even some noodles. It was clear I was in for a full tummy.
Started with the salad and soup, which were both delicious and refreshing, the ginger dressing on the salad was a tad watery but the soup was perfect. Then I kind of picked at everything else till I ate it all. The fried rice and great, with little chunks of fried egg in it. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, with some great savory flavor. The noodles were surprisingly fantastic, a little dry at first but I mixed them in with leftover sauce from the calamari and they really came to life. Now the calamari, was overcooked. It was rubbery as heck, very chewy and squeaky, and there were no tentacles! It was all just the tubes, I think? They were this weird spiral looking calamari I have never seen before, but when I think of calamari I think tentacles and rings. So I was a bit disappointed about that. They also had almost no flavor, and I had to rely heavily upon the sauces they included.
Overall, I'd still come back, but maybe not for the calamari diner. Perhaps I should try the shrimp next time?
I attended a friend’s birthday dinner at this restaurant and our group filled an entire hibachi table. While the food was enjoyable, the service was disappointing. Our server was incredibly rude—ignoring multiple requests for water, reacting poorly when asked for a straw, and rarely checking on our table. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty aside from our group, we had to go to the bar to order additional drinks and chase him down to get the rest of our meal, including a forgotten appetizer. To make matters worse, we were left to divide the bill for over 15 people ourselves without prior arrangements. The hibachi chef also displayed unprofessional behavior, adding to the poor experience. I wouldn't recommend this place—Azuma offers better food, friendlier service, and greater consistency. Avoid Sake Bon if possible.
I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Sake Bon Hibachi. I came in with high hopes, but from the start, it was one issue after another. The food was mediocre at best – definitely not worth the price. But what really ruined the experience was the shocking behavior of the manager. Right in the middle of the dining area, in front of everyone, the manager started berating an employee. The poor staff member looked embarrassed and uncomfortable, and all the customers were forced to witness this horrible scene. It was unprofessional and created such an uncomfortable atmosphere. I felt bad for the employee and honestly didn’t feel respected as a customer either. A manager should know better than to handle issues in front of guests, let alone in such a disrespectful way. I won’t be coming back, and I would definitely not recommend Sake Bon Hibachi to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.
Food was absolutely amazing. The best crab Rangoons I have ever had. The side of hibachi steak was cooked to perfection. The rolls were absolutely amazing (wagyu roll, minus the asparagus and jalapeño + sakebon roll, minus the mango and avocado). If you’re a texture person, I don’t suggest the wagyu roll. The Beef Negimaki was phenomenal, too many scallions for me personally in the middle but my boyfriend thought it was perfect the way it was.
They don’t have a good service like we used to had here. We miss him I guess his name is Kenny.
I went to this place yesterday with some friends of mine for one of their birthdays and it was amazing, the staff were all very friendly and patient their was little wait for our food to come out and the hibachi was amazing. All around a great place to sit down and eat with a large gathering, not sure what the other people in these reviews are talking about when they say the customer service is bad.
The good news is the food is good during the week ...the bad news is they lie through their teeth when you call an order in for pickup ....they told me 35 minutes but 2 hours later standing in the lobby still no food. The woman behind the desk tells me every 10 minutes it's coming
.... why lie ???? Just tell me the truth and I'll be happy.....we won't be going back
Told us it would’ve 35 minutes and it was over an hour. They also gave us the wrong persons order at first until we said something.
Best Hibachi restaurant I've ever been to. It's a lot of food, you'll never leave hungry. Always upgrade to the fillet for a couple bucks more. The fillet and the chicken is outstanding!!!
Always a fun time.
I liked this place until I saw the sushi chef picking his nose and continued to make sushi without washing his hands.

Sushi was top notch, service was great would recommend to friends and family.
I have both dined in and gotten take out here. The food is AMAZING! For rice lovers I definitely recommend the chicken fried rice. I also love the King of the Sea Roll.
Everyone is very friendly, show is always entertaining. Food is pretty good, always go for hibachi so can only speak on that. If you go on your birthday, they have a pretty fun surprise.

Went for my anniversary, I noticed that something smelled off on the hibachi cart, but I didn't think anything of it. Took a couple bites of the yum yum sauce and it tasted spoiled so I didn't eat it anymore. I ended up sick for 2 days. Probably won't be returning because of this.
On 20241019 at approximately 7pm, we decided to go to this highly praised restaurant. The food was amazing, the atmosphere is amazing, but our server Tenny was a complete sas bucket overfilling his emotions onto the floor of poor decisions.
Good sushi , terrible service . Our waiter was rude as hell and it took an hour just for him to ask us what we wanted to eat. Also never brought my water I asked for twice. Tip was automatically added to our bill as well.
Excellent service. Food is well portioned and delicious. Nice decor
Open Class Actions Sushi!
Fabulous all dishes. Highly recommend.
Today (6/19/24) was our first visit to this restaurant. The food and service were excellent. The facility itself looks very good and clean. We will dine there again and expect it to become one of our favorites.

Husband and I love this place!

However, the service was okay, lacking the attentiveness and warmth that could have elevated the dining experience to exceptional. Overall, it was a great choice for a tasty meal
Not impressed. Drinks took too long. They forgot my drink. Main course arrives and they forgot about appetizers. The manager made some amends but the night wasn't great. At least the sushi was good.
It’s amazing go there now
Excellent! My best friend lives in CP, so I took her here for her birthday. We both had Hibachi; I had the salmon and steak and we shared the sweet potato sushi roll. Everything was delicious, freshly prepared and came out quickly. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Our waitress was very Loud and rude.
Went on a date and had a great time! Was able to sit and have a full conversation without too much going on. Food was AMAZING!
Great experience. We can't wait to go back!
Nice place to share with family and a small group of friends. Ideal for the group of 8-10 people. They are great with kids. Patient servers and chef. Great ambience!!! Just wish they took reservations!!!
Ok, this review is a touch biased due to me going to get a late lunch by myself. Around 3pm on a weekday, so there was no one but staff there. That being said, I was treated like royalty. Ordered some great rolls, had a FANTASTIC Mojito, and just enjoyed myself. No pressure, no rush, just a guy enjoying himself in peace. Rolls were amazing, cocktail was amazing, service was amazing. 10/10
I got the pad Thai, enough for 3 portions!
Very noisy and the waitress was really rude!
We had a party of 6. Although we mentioned one of our folks did not like onion. Onion was still mixed with all the veggies and fried rice. We asked for an extra white rice, and it never came. One of our folks ordered chicken, they forgot and had to cook it after everyone else started eating. One of our folks ordered steak because he did not like fish. But when the chef cooked the fish, he automatically put shrimp on the person's plate, contaminating the plate. We found the servers unfriendly, almost like we were bothering them when we asked for drink refills and It was not very busy.
I freaking love this place. They are decently priced for lunch especially. They have great food and big portions.
My first time here. I was very impressed by the service at the Habachi table. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I'll be back again.
Dinner for one was perfect. Wasn't too busy. Food was pricey right and perfect
Had a great dinner with family. Similar to many
Bartender did not know how to make a simple cosmo or a vodka & cranberry
Our waitress Carrie was extremely rude and curt. Customer service needs immediate improvement. Sat at the hibachi table and the food was good.
Quick prompt service with good food.
Went to the Clifton Park location for dinner. Not sure what the hype is about, very disappointed and completely over rated. The service was sub-par and the food was marginal at best. The Pad-Thai had an awful odor, my son’s general Tao’s chicken was undercooked. The fish in the sushi rolls was not fresh. The server never came back to check on the table after the food was brought out. If I could give it ZERO stars I would. One of the worse experiences……This also proves that many reviews are FAKE.
Very nice and great service.Went for lunch and had sashimi, soup and salad wife had sushi, soup and salad. Very reasonable price. Would go again.
10/10 always a delicious meal with wonderful staff. Lychee martinis are the best! Fresh always!
Very good food, I recommend it...
Would give 5 stars, but I don't agree with added gratuity in a small party. I would have tipped the same as it, but had already handed the chef money.
Always the best service, sushi and hibachi selections. ❤️
Great experience! The staff is very friendly, the quality of the food is great, one of the things that is noticeable about this place is the cleanliness. Please try the hibachi table, you will have fun. There is no much happening in Clifton Park food wise but this place is a must if you are in the area.
Solid Hibachi Experience!
The food is not great but the staff is very nice and it’s a fun atmosphere for the hibachi side.
Food was great. I've now tried this location several times and it's remained consistent.
The beef is prepared perfectly, which I feel is becoming hard to come by in this area. The vegetables, tofu, soup, salad, and dressing are all perfect. My favorite dish is the curry beef.
The entire hibachi experience was not fun. My family and I have gone to Hibachi restaurants all through out the capital region regularly. This experience was beyond unsatisfying. The chef was low energy, unenthusiastic and didn’t perform anything of the art. My partner was unable to eat her food because of a seafood allergy they were made aware of several times and the chef didn’t care or use caution touching and cross contaminated all food.
The service was terrible as the waitress rude and clumsy hitting several of us at the table. Aside from the hostess that greeted me pleasantly upon our arrival the rest of the staff left everything to be desired
Had an excellent meal here tonight. The Spicy Thai chicken soup was awesome! One of the best soups I have ever had. Nice spice and loaded with chicken and veggies. The Naruto roll was very fresh and tasty as well. I will be back when I'm in the area and try other dishes. Thanks for a great meal! Came back a 2nd time and same experience!
It was ok we had hibachi and the chef was very sad and non responsive ; the idea of hibachi is dinner and a show definitely lacked the show. We heard other tables which sounded amazing. Restaurant is nice inside food was ok/decent all around meh ok status
We were a party of 5 with a reservation for a hibachi table on Easter. One of our party knew an owner, so we got some extras..edamame, dumplings, spicy shrimp, crab rangoon, salad and soup (the last two come with the meal). Even though we all ordered the lunch hibachi options, none of us could finish because portions were so big (we brought them home to finish later). Shrimp and scallops were delicious! Highly recommended!
Great portion size for the money. Friendly staff & everything appeared clean.
Delicious food.
Staff was very rude, and made us feel that we were unwanted and bothering their quiet time. The place was empty but for us. Food was fair to middling.
By far the best local place to eat. And the live entertainment cooking server is amazing.
Excellent food
Love this place. Great food and atmosphere.
All I'm going to say is there were cockroaches in this restaurant, running around on the hibachi table. This happened just after the meal concluded and check was paid. Hibachi chef was excellent. Can't say the same about the rest of the staff, and the cockroaches. Can't get over that.
I took my son out for a birthday dinner the other evening. Our server was Johnny, and he was absolutely amazing! Extremely attentive, pleasurable, and funny...he made my son's whole day when he came out with the lit ice cream for his bday! Johnny went above and beyond to make my son's night special. Thank you!!
among if not the best hibachi experience in the region, also try Sake Bon II
Hibachi was fun and delicious.
My wife and I went with 13 other friends and had a wonderful time. Food was excellent and plentiful, chefs were skilled and funny, and the owner came over 😋 at the end and did something are bombs with us. Truly a great experience.
Put music on just for us
Seamless transaction for lunch pick up ordered online. Emailed receipt said ready in 30minutes. I sent a message along with the order stating I wouldn’t arrive for approx 1.5hrs (lol traveling nurse) . Food was ready upon arrival , hot & packaged appropriately . Utensils/napkins provided. Excellent costumer service & great value for lunch . Hibachi combo (steak / chicken) along with provided fried rice , veggies & noodles were great 👌🏼
Avocado & sweet potato spring roll was excellent . Clear soup was as expected . I wouldn’t hesitate to return.
Beautifully plated, fresh, fast service
Avocado/sweet potato rolls are incredible so is the crab rangoon. The menu selection is extensive for both meat and meatless options. Their fried rice is next level. Great atmosphere and customer service
We sat and had our soup and salad and still didn't have out drinks. Took about 1/2 hour. Our food was on the grill and rice was on our plates when we got our drinks..
Best hibachi around the capital region
We love to come to Sake Bon for lunch! Usually we get the two roll lunch combo ($12) or if we're hungry hungry, the three roll ($15). They include miso soup and the traditional ginger dressing salad. It always tastes fresh and is esthetically pleasing. The staff are always pleasant and smiling. We've never done the hibachi side, although the kids have ordered a side of hibachi noodles and it was also tasty.
Such a fun dinner experience. I still can't catch the zucchini in my mouth
Wow! So many apps, dinners, extras to choose from, it's hard to pick. We had the crab Rangoon, which was crispy and tasty. The California roll and the NY Giants roll were both delicious. The Thai Seafood combo was a little bit spicy, not too spicy. So tasty, lots of big shrimp and scallops and chunks of veggies. We had a lovely evening and the service was great!
Best ever!
Exceptional service and very tasty food! Highly recommended!!
Food always taste amazing, their staff is friendly and very good. Never had a bad experience here and I’ve dined multiple times. There lunch special for the hibachi lunch is out of this world it’s pretty much getting the hibachi without the show but you get the same amount of food for a fraction of the price well worth it for lunch.
Good food nice atmosphere.
Pricey with servers who are doing you a favor by serving you. Food served was not warm.
Food is great service is fast and friendly
Okay so the food is DELICIOUS!! Especially the fried rice 😋. Would be a 5 but one of the drinks I had tasted pretty stale. Overall a good place though! I love hibachi 😄
Awesome place great people love it 😊💘
The food was fresh and delicious. Excellent service! I will definitely go back when I'm in town again
Good Portions and Good Hibachi
My favorite place to eat and I love all the workers 🤗 won’t be disappointed!!
The food here is always on point, service is simply amazing, and the sushi is some of the best I've had in the area. They were really great with my 5 year old daughter who was eating there for the first time, I shared the teriyaki chicken with her. She of course loved her miso soup, and she also said "she's stuck on their rice"..Which means she loves it.
I love this place! The servers are friendly and efficient and the restaurant is clean.
I love settling into a cozy seat and watching the other patrons.
Chicken Satay is my go to. Daughter loves the sushi, the "Boston" especially.
There is a sense of perceived value.
I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and ballads sound track.
Review Update: 06/26/2022 Still amazing. Loved that they turned the A/C blast down because I looked cold. Try the Spicy Crab Crunch Roll, it is outstanding.
Beautiful restaurant with really nice people and delicious food!! I will definitely be back!!
Good sushi and apps, wish they had drink specials
Great dinner with friends or family, hibachi was fun to try!
Went here for lunch with 4 coworkers (this was my first time). Awesome spot. Pretty upscale and sleek for a local strip mall. Food was great with no disappointments. I ordered the chicken Teriyaki lunch special with soup and salad. The salad was not all that, contained one piece of tomato, cucumber, and the rest was lettuce with house dressing. The chicken Teryiyaki was great, full of flavor, rice bowl was kind of small though. I would definitely recommend and revisit again.
Went for hibachi to celebrate my sons birthday. Great time...dinner and a show!
Nice place. Trendy decor
Good food. Entertaining. A little expensive.
I ordered take out and they did a nice job of packaging and getting my order out almost on time. Sushi rolls were good, a little small but they were fresh and rolled well. I'll be back. 😎
Food was good! Very accommodating to a large group! Seemed to be short staffed, our server was sprinting around the dining room. She was doing her best but as you can imagine with her being busy the service was slow and so was the kitchen. Half of the groups entrees came out first and by the time the second half came out half the group was done eating. We waited a while but there was almost a 20 minute gap in between unfortunately. Would come back but probably not on the weekend.
Too expensive for the food you get. It's primarily vegatables!
Such a quiet and quaint Asian restaurant. Lovely ambiance. Fine foods and low foot traffic. Various options from the menu to choose from.
Good food
Got some Hot Sake and sat at the Hibachi table, always a treat coming here. 10/10
Actually my food was cold when served to the table.
OMG! Get the dynamite roll and anything else! So good!
Always a fun time and the food is good.
Beautiful presentation, food was good, service was nothing to write home about. It's strip mall Japanese. I wanted to love it, but it is what it is.
Absolutely delicious and entertaining as well. Highly recommended.
Food was amazing, wait staff and chef were MORE AMAZING! Manager was ok.
Very clean establishment.
Fun hibachi was good sauce is good accommodating to allergies The chef was entertaining overall I suggest it's a good spot
Best sushi rolls and hibachi. The owners are amazing people along with the staff. Love this place.
Always a fun experience at the hibachi
table. Meal was just right.
Great place!
Excellent sushi in an unassuming strip mall location. Really nice decor inside and super nice service. We got into town late and ordered around 9 and the staff was really nice despite the late hour.
Excellent food and drinks beautiful presentation. Nice clean throughout fast friendly courteous service.. many hibachi tables large dining three large booths in the bar area nice Long bar two large TVs and a great wine selection. Very happy we tried it came over from Vermont today it was worth the trip we will definitely do it again.
Over priced and not worth the money! They’ve become ridiculous with their portions with subpar quality!
Interesting. First time there. Food was very good. Had filet, could not have been more tender.
Celebrated my husbands birthday here. They did a great job. Surprised us with a birthday cake.
Food was yummy and our chef was fun and entertaining!
If you are looking for good service and entertainment to get the full hibachi experience I recommend NOT going to the Clifton park location. We were rushed to be seated, rushed with our drinks and food order. Mind you we had reservations. The cooks had zero personality and barely said a word. Even with 3 kids at the table. On a scale of 1-10 for the entertainment it was rather on the lesser side. About 10 minutes into eating they were tossing to-go boxes on the table and not once offered refills. They asked if there were any birthdays and we had 3 with a party of 13 and the man rolled his eyes. We brought a cake and instead of offering a knife and plates they rushed the check. Leaving a child on his birthday in complete shock. The manager was awful and instead of accommodating for the poor service he tried justifying that they have to turn people away because of how busy they are and needed the table for walk in parties as well. He wouldn’t let anyone voice their opinions and kept cutting off anyone who tried to talk. The Schenectady location offers the best experience, better service, lots of entertainment , great staff, amazing management and never will make you feel rushed.
The appetizers were good but the hibachi was ok I didn't like the taste of the rice and service was kinda slow.
