Cozy bistro serving traditional curry, rice & noodle dishes, including gluten-free items.
We were visiting the area and didn’t want to eat at a chain restaurant. Very happy with this quaint Thai restaurant with lovely outdoor seating. The menu gives you just enough to order a good amount of food. The dishes were very tasty and authentic. They have an onsite parking lot that makes it much easier to access the outdoor eating area. The noodle dishes were delicious and so was the calamari but the real dish of the night was the whole snapper with ginger sauce and shrimp. It’s great. We finished with dessert and ordered mango sticky rice which was excellent. Highly recommend it here ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My girlfriend and I visit this location frequently their food is always excellent and sometimes we try something new. The owner and the staff are extremely polite and the girls are quite cute and nice. You can’t go wrong going here and enjoying great food in an atmosphere, and you can bring your own bottle of wine as well. When the weather is nice outside, you can eat outside, which is even more fun.
We ate at this place because the restaurant that we wanted to go to had an hour and a half waiting time, in the middle of a thunderstorm, so we had to settle for less. Looking through the windows I didn't think it was an authentic Thai restaurant, but more of the kind that caters to Western palates. Sure enough, both the Som Tum Thai (papaya salad) and the Pad Kee Mao were quite bland. I was especially unimpressed with their substitution of ingredients: e.g. instead of the long string beans, they used normal green beans (much cheaper, too soft for the bite, and the wrong taste), while the usual bamboo shoots etc were all missing. When my husband ordered the Thai Jungle stir fry with shrimp, the waitress asked if he could handle level 4 spiciness ... what spiciness? It was barely a level 2 for our preference. The only redeeming quality of that dish was the generous amount of large shrimps ... worth the price they charge I guess. Service was impeccable, and it was definitely popular with the local crowd, as the take-out orders were pouring in. It may be good enough for people unfamiliar with Southeast Asian cuisines, but it certainly came short for this family of world travelers!
Can't beleive I've never been here before, but my friend took me here last night and I was very impressed. Chicken satay was delicious, and that peanut sauce! To die for. The massaman short rib was definitely my favorite, and was great with a side od sticky rice. Pad thai was also excellent. Service was great aswell. Wish they had mango sticky rice, but what a great spot!
How this place has good reviews has got to be the 8th wonder of the world. Some friends wanted to go out and asked if I wanted to do Thai food. I said sure (not remembering when the last time I had Thai food) and we end up at this place. As soon as I saw the place I remembered it instantly from someone telling me the place smelled like a wet dog inside and the food was disgusting. I didn’t want to tell my company I wanted to eat elsewhere so I decided to order and see if I would enjoy it. Surprise surprise, the inside smelled like a wet dog. Somehow the restaurant was almost full, equally baffling. The atmosphere, the interior and exterior of the restaurant itself, and the staff just scream low quality establishment; so I knew there was a very high probability I was not going to like the food. Well I ordered what I thought would be the highest probability dish of me actually being able to successfully consume without regurgitating.. beer stir fry. As soon as they set it on the table I knew I wasn’t going to like it. Cut a piece of beef in half and ate it, barely being able to swallow it. This had to be the most disgusting food I have ever, and I mean ever.. tried in my entire life. Just look at this dish and tell me it doesn’t look like $5.95 take out Chinese food from Atlantic City that’s sat outside for 72 hours. The waitress came by a couple minutes later to ask how the food was and I said I wasn’t going to eat the meal and she said they won’t take it off the bill. I replied “I’m not paying for it.” And a few minutes later a different woman came out demanding answers specifically about what was wrong with the meal. I settled on perhaps the beef is expired because it tastes like the cow may have died in 1999. They arrived later with the check minus this dogfood dish and I went straight to pick up dinner from the Cheesecake Factory. It’s like going from prison straight to a 14 day cruise.
Having passed by this establishment for the past few months being new to the area, my wife and I decided to have dinner here and were very impressed with the overall experience. The service was prompt and pleasant and always making sure we had full drinks and needing anything. We started with the sampler appetizer which included spring rolls, curry puffs, chicken satay and spare ribs. Each item were super hot and tender. The side sauces were a nice touch. Our entrees were level 5 heat chicken ka prow for me and a chicken with Thai broccoli and noodles for my wife. The heat was perfect and the portions were large and overall very tasty dishes. We couldn’t pass up dessert so we went with the chocolate peanut butter sundae and the homemade chocolate lava cake. Both were delicious and decadent. I would recommend here without hesitation and look forward to going back.
One of our favorite restaurants and in our books, the number 1 Thai restaurant we enjoy. The service is always friendly and attentive. We love coming here usually on Saturdays to enjoy their delicious offerings such as crab fried rice, Khao Soi (a curry noodle dish) with shrimp.
We really love their Thai iced tea and when in season, mango and sweet sticky rice. Another favorite dessert is the Gao Parfait.
Plenty of parking in their own lot and during the warmer season, outdoor dining.

Loved it. Ordered the salmon in panang curry. It was so good. They take good care of their patrons. Thank you 🙏
I don't normally like Thai food, but this place was great.
Consistently good food. Great friendly staff.
The food is good but if you order delivery be prepared to wait wait wait. They take the order themselves and they send it to door dash or uber eats and you lose control. The driver they select might deliver to multiple places. Get on the delivery apps!!!

Food is somewhere between 4 and 5….very good food.
Atmosphere is decent. It’s average. I like it. Customers are respectful, place is clean, but nothing fancy or over the top. It is what it is. :)

Not exactly authentic Thai food. The coconut soup which I thought was intended to be tom kha tasted only of sweet coconut milk, a good tom kha should have a strong lemongrass and galangal flavor to balance the sweetness but this was so sweet it could've been a dessert. As for the curry, it was flavorful but definitely not Thai spicy like I ordered. I ate the whole thing without even dipping into my rice because it simply wasn't remotely hot. Given the prices I probably won't be back. Overall disappointing experience.
Servers were great and attentive and I'm sure for most people this would be good to them, I just am very particular about my Thai food.
Good food very small portion size
I don’t usually make reviews but…We absolutely LOVE this place. Everything we have tried is amazing. The fried Calamari is perfectly fried and delicious. The coconut soup with shrimp is always a favorite. My usual is the pad see ew with beef and a fried rice for my one year old. My husband tries something different each time we do and every thing has been BOMB. The Massaman short ribs today was especially impressive tasting like stew but even better because the curry and creaminess. We usually have leftovers and they heat up pretty well. Irene, Claire and Nina from the waitstaff is always so friendly and welcoming us in with smiles and greet my daughter. The chef, Benz, is so talented and has brought us deliciousness again and again.
This is our go to place for Thai food when we are in Bergen County New Jersey. Been going there for more than 10 years. It really is a great place, although sometimes some of the front end people are not too friendly. But we like it nonetheless.
Yummy and fantastic service!
Not fancy but always tasty. Have been 25+ times over the many years Gao has been in business. Prefer to sit outdoors after grabbing a bottle of cab at Ramsey Liquors across the street. Food is consistently good. Go to dinner is the Duck Panang Curry.

Very good Thai food overall. We keep going back. The pad Thai needs to have more noodles - you can barely taste the noodles.
Food is not as good as it used to be…ordered the crispy duck salad for take out..when I opened it as home it came with three small soggy leaves…no iceberg something else…I called to complain by the manager could have cared less…
Some negative reviews were for only their vegetarian dishes and only one visit. That is not a fair assessment of the restaurant. They do not pretend to be a vegetarian restaurant. I have been going to this resto since it opened and have tried most of their dishes and it’s high up there in quality and taste. I have never been to Thailand to compare so I can’t be as high fallutin as that reviewer. And if most of his/her reviews of restaurants are negative, maybe s/he doesn’t know what s/he’s is talking about.

Consistency of food quality is 100%…Best green curry in bergen county.
They continue to serve great food, we are lucky to have them so close to home.
Cosy spot with awesome food and ambiance.
I was in town for work for a couple weeks. I ate here 4 times. Food was ready about 15 minutes after I ordered. Tom Yum was great. So was the duck salad. Everything I ordered was tasty.
Nothing special about the atmosphere. Food was good. More American than Thai, my memory of the taste is better than my what I remember. Still better than most Thai outside of nyc. 2.7⭐nyc 4⭐
Great place for Thai Food.
Ambiance is good and food quality and quantity is at it's best.
The staff is very kind.
It's BYOB which is great.
We visit this restaurant almost twice a month.
Over charge, are not respectful to their customers.
Poor customer service. They do not handle issues correctly.
I am SO upset and disappointment with the service. I am definitely a loyal customer and whenever we want Thai, I order from here. Food is good. For the first Time ever, there were egg shells in my pad Thai. I literally couldn't eat my meal because I was crunching on the shells. I called and the manager said he would give me a credit. Here I am thinking he would give me my meal for free next time considering I wasted $15. No....He gave me 20% off which is $3 off. It's a complete a joke. I totally understand people make mistakes but then do what is right and make up for it! Horrible horrible horrible service for the business I give them. Get your Thai food from Wyckoff, its delicious and im sure they respect their customers.
Best Pad Thai I’ve had in a long time. Can’t wait to go back!
Easy to miss hidden gem. Curry Puffs are as fresh and hot as possible. The green curry is thick and fragrant. Order with sticky rice, will make your meal memorable. Great quick lunch spot.
Food is amazing
Used to like it a lot more but now the pad Thai is spicy, which upsets my stomach and gives me heartburn. I’m really disappointed bc it was so good before. I likely will not return or recommend.
Food travels well here. Always hot when I bring it back home. Red curry is so yummy!
We had never been here before. The food was amazing! Very clean and very flavorful. Very authentic. Will chatting with her server at the end of our meal. We realize that they are connected with our favorite Thai food restaurant in River Vale! This restaurant owner is so consistently good at what they do.
Good ambience and good food and excellent services. Would have been even better if they served wine or beer with their food . Easily over $100 for 2 people dinner if it were in Manhattan. Paid a little less than $60 for 1 appetizer, 2 dishes, 1 side dish and 1 dessert. Plenty of food too
the BEST crab fried rice we've eaten! Seasoning was perfect. We prefer to eat less salty and we found a place to take out now.
Have been a diner of theirs for over 5 years, they never disappoint. I'd recommend their pineapple fried rice.
It's always it's delight to go here. The staff is extremely friendly they're very quick and the food is outstanding
It was my first time trying out Thai food, and i loved it! Especially the Pineapple Fried Rice (GF) it had eggs, bell peppers, onion, tomato, cashew nut, scallions, chili jams, and fried shallots Add a little of the Green Curry sauce to it was divine. Spring Roll was nice and crunchy and sweet. 😋
Next time, we have to try to dine outside....
I've been coming to or ordering from Gao for a few years now and decided it's time give them a proper review. I've had most of the menu, and there are no duds. The Short Rib Massaman and Kee Mao noodles are amazing, and the rest of the curries and noodles are all hits. The combo is a great way to start the meal trying a little bit of everything. Service is quick and byo is nice with the liquor store across the street. Pick up has always been accurate and on time.
One of the best Thai food restaurants in the area. Food is rushed, space your orders out.
You won't find better thai in bergen county
So happy that this is in town! I loved the food, the Thai tea and the service was really quick on a busy night! The ginger lover meal was amazing
Great vegan dishes....salad, spring rolls, tofu ginger lovers dish

Have eaten numerous times. Dishes I would recommend that are super delicious are - Som Tum Thai papaya salad, chilli basil fried rice, pineapple rib, fried calamari, shrimp in green curry & drunken noodles.
My favorite omg Thai chili basil fried rice is amazing!
Great delicious food. Love their noodle dishes. BYOB. Fun with friends, even better atmosphere for date night!!
First time visiting. Very pleasant atmosphere, great service, excellent food (appetizer combo and crab fried rice). Will definitely visit again.
Great Thai food.
food is always perfect! This place can be jampacked on the weekend because the food is excellent! we get takeout and we’ve had dine in and it’s always good.
It was out first time eating anywhere in Ramsey. We were there for lunch on a Wednesday and sat outside. Great food, service was prompt and very courteous and outdoor seating was good but a bit noisy since it is right next to a busy intersection. We loved it anyway. Perhaps a little music outdoor will be better!
We ordered Kee Mao and Green curry. Had Tom yom chicken and chicken satay for apps. All great. Will come again.
Stopped by Gao for takeout while passing by on a business trip. Atmosphere seemed nice and the food was really good! Calamari was better than I get in some Italian places haha.
Love this place!
First time here. The food was Delicious. Definitely worth going back too.
Amazing food 😋
Best Thai food in the area.
Delicious fried rice chunk crab 🦀 meat. Light , not heavy oil, sweet onion and leaks, lots of crab.
Kind, hardworking people with great quality food. Clean dining environment and restrooms outdoor patio in good weather is super enjoyable. Limited parking during busy times but convenient location.
The best Thai flavor a round, especially the beef and pork Ribs
Great food at a good value
This used to be a great place for dinner but recently the staff has gotten extremely pushy to get customers to leave . We feel very rushed while dining, then the waitress asked us to leave the table shortly after dinner. There were 3 open tables at the time, and no one waiting to be seated. The food is still good, but take out is the way to go if you'd like a relaxing meal.
What a gem . Excellent dishes . My date ordered everything for us . Can't tell you what I had except that it was great
This was so great everytime, but a new guy has been managing it and the quality has gone downhill. First he replace the asparagus with Broccoli and green beans (ok). But now he's replace the fresh green beans with frozen ones (thats not so good). And my order today the chicken was clearly leftovers (now that's not cool because Gao was closed yesterday).
Bottom line: everything is very good, except the tom yang soup which is too sweet. The crab fried rice is my favorite.
Delicious!!!
Immaculate and great vegan food
Great restaurant! Good quality at regular prices
Maybe the only drawback is that there isnt many curry choices
Easy 5 stars. Perfect food, impeccable speedy service. Would be back if I lived in Jersey
Great lunch.
I have been going to Gao for about 8 years and it is my favorite restaurant. I know the employees for the same amount of time and just makes the experience better.
Wow oh so good. My wife and I had dinner. The spring rolls were excellent. My wife had a Curry dish and I had noodles with chicken. Spices, tastes oh so good. Excellent service too.
I love this place, the food is delicious and service is great. I do recommend it .
I like Gao this is a great place and a great location to be and this is a good looking restaurant to be to eat with friends and family and the food is so good and my favorite is the pad Thai and it is out of this world and the service is good really quick and the kitchen in there is so good of making good kinds of food there
One of my favorite restaurants in the area. Fried calamari, spring rolls, curry puffs, and the coconut soup are solid starters
Excellent, quick & friendly. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Poor customer service rude and no patience to disabled person. Q
The wait staff was friendly, helpful, and service was efficient. Fresh food and delicious!
Get the GAO app in order in minutes. Completely friction free. Drive just a few minutes and it will be ready when you get there. Excellent Thai food prepared authentically.
We were recommended this restaurant. Great choice to celebrate my brother and my daughter's birthdays. Very beautiful, serene, quaint. Even in the small space, the staff accommodated our large party. They made us feel welcome, they were kind and friendly. The food was delicious. Not so many kid friendly options but, thankfully my toddlers eat basically anything haha. We had a wonderful experience. Thank you for everything!
Small selection of dishes but ALL are delicious. BYOB. Excellent service, and has outside dining. Small restaurant. Pad Thai is one of the best. Good for lunch too
very expensive for the quality of food served, lacks flavor, rice over cooked and mushy
Best Thai food ever had!
Not phenomenal. The pad see ew lacked flavor and barely had any rice noodles in the dish. The order was a delivery and came cold. Overall, all portion sizes were small.
I love the organization of the menu and attentiveness of the staff! There's not much variety within each category other than the meats, and also, I really want options that don't limit me, with their options of mushroom, cashew, and dairy (all of which I cannot consume). The dishes are also so large that neither my partner nor I could finish them, and this included sharing each other's meals! (We ended up taking the rest home though.) I do, however, love their iced coffee (despite my lactose intolerance 😅). This place is on the pricier side, so keep in mind how much you're spending.
Very good food. Get the duck curry and green curry! Also it is byo.
The duck gra pow was delicious, would definitely recommend it.
very nice ambiance , great food, and friendly staff
Delicious, authentic food, lovely ambience.
Food was very good, service was excellent, ambience is nice, Shoutout to Andrew who attended to us, such a nice guy. 4 stars because I think the food was just a little bit on the sweeter side, just a tiny bit, but the presentation and the flavor of everything was really great. Fairly priced as well.
Terrific authentic Thai food, huge selection of choices, especially appetizers. Fresh and tasty, regular customers.
The best! From the food through the ambient and staff this restaurant is excellent! Food is absolutely delishous, it's filling with big portions, but the food itself is light and healthy! You will leave feeling that you ate a healthy meal! Highly recommend! Great job to all GAO!
Authentic dishes. Very reasonably priced. Gracious Thai service. I'll be back.
Staff were, polite, friendly and efficient. Restaurant was very clean and Covid precsutions followed. The food was fresh and delicious! A taste explosion! Loved everything we ordered! This was our first time. We will be back!
Great Thai food, I recommend the pineapple fried rice. Service was such and terrific as well.
Great place. Delicious food.
Super good!
I’ll start with I picked up take out at 3:00 pm, just when they were closing after lunch. I loved this place but I ordered the chicken curry lunch with Tom Yum Soup (shrimp) and Two Add Ons (@$2.00 a piece). Added Spring Roll and Extra Veggies. I did NOT get any of my Add Ons and the shrimp in the soup was shriveled and dry. Disappointing. I love this place. Lessons learned. Do not order close to closing time and always check your order before you walk out the door.
We've had dine in and take out. Great choices, meals prepared as expected. I have gotten a different dish rack time from salad to pineapple rice and I have always enjoyed each meal.
love the food and service is amazing! definitely recommend
Food always comes out super quick and servers are so nice! Never even let my water get empty they refill so often, love this place!!
We had a great time at this restaurant. We dined on the beautiful outdoor patio- umbrellas and shade for a sunny hot day. 😎 Our server Andrew was awesome- we had great attentive service. He even took a family pic for us with a smile! We requested family style dining so we could all share with no problem. Fast service! Prices are great for quantity and quality of food. Cashew nut chicken recommended - very good flavor. Jasmine rice yummy! I will definitely dine here again.
Great, clean restaurant for Thai food. We have visited at least 3+ times and are happy with our meals at each occasion. The gao salmon, pineapple fried rice, and pad Thai are excellent
The Chicken Satay was tender and delicious. The Duck Curry was similarly mouth watering. Will definitely go back again.
Nice Thai restaurant around Mahwah, Ramsey with luck specials during weekdays! Personal favorite- pad gra pow beef or chicken.
Ordinary Chinese food.. it used to be great Thai cuisine, but no more... I’ve been to Thailand and can assure everyone that Thai food differs greatly from Chinese
Great food and wonderful service. I highly recommend it. My family favorite are the chicken fry rice with a side order of calamari.
Great food. Great service. In a nice looking cleanest place.
Disappointing experience. Ordered some shrimp Pad Thai and a Thai iced tea. The iced tea had been overbrewed and had a real bitter note. When the Pad Thai came it was chicken instead of shrimp and I had to send it back. When I finally had the correct order, I was sorry to find that it wasn't that great, as the flavors were muted and unremarkable. Not sure what happened to this place, as it used to be quite good.
Delicious food!
Food is good and the staff is decent. Food is a bit pricey
Really good food and super nice staff. Great prices too. And they have plenty of gluten free choices!
We love this place. Been going and ordering from them for a while.
Edit:
We received an order that was missing items from the app but Gao called back and fixed the situation. Very nice customer service considering the issue may have been with the DoorDasher.
Good service,,saitay is bit greasy,,
We have never had a bad bite to eat here. Tom kha soup is an absolute must. BYOB.
Great food and convenient takeout
Always a fantastic meal. The staff are so nice and friendly, and always remember exactly what we order!!! Love this place.
Very good tai food, great presentation
The food was Delicious! Everything was so flavorful and fresh. The staff was super friendly, polite and attentive. Enjoyed Gao Thai Kitchen very much.
Rude and unprofessional staff
Great staff. Good food. Good atmosphere. What else do u need?
The staff is very rude. My husband ordered a curbside pick up and when he drove by to pick up the food they told him (not politely at all!) that it is kept on the table, and that he can come in and take it.
The food tastes good but that doesn't excuse bad behaviour.
