Authentic Thai Cuisine
We were too hungry to take any food picture.
We got Tom Kha soup, Papaya salad, Half chicken, Pad thai, 2 side of rice, Thai Iced Tea and This Iced coffee and they all hit the spot.
Tastes exactly like home. And the bill was only around $60 before tip.
Fast service. Nice bathrooms.
100% recommend this place.
I visited this restaurant on a Friday afternoon shortly after it opened for the day and I was seated immediately. It was nice to enjoy the restaurant when it was nearly empty before the large crowds (and noise) arrived. The atmosphere was inviting and warm.
The staff was excellent. Everyone was very friendly, attentive, and efficient.
To start, I ordered the Mango Salad. It was fresh, crispy, filling and delicious. For my main, I ordered the Half Kai Yang (chicken) with Massaman Curry. The flavor the curry was delicious and the chicken was tender. The portion of the meal was very large - I had to take most of it home and then I was able to split it into two small meals. Definitely an excellent value for the money.
Overall a very good experience!
In our quest for the best Thai cuisine in Montclair, this spot came up a few times. We decided to give it a shot, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were genuinely authentic and delicious! We ordered chicken satay, pad kee mao, and red curry with half chicken from their specials menu. While the pad kee-mow could've had a bit more flavor, overall, it was a fantastic experience. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
Best Thailand cuisine in the town! Great and very authentic flavors, reasonable prices and very easy going service. The only downside on it is dark interior circumstances and no kids menu, not friendly to family with kids, only personal experience. But we will come back again for food!
This place serves great vegan versions of Thai staples - namely their curries which we really enjoy. Their tum yum soup is the most incredible soup I’ve had outside of Thailand itself. Def work a try!
The reason we rate 4 stars and not 5 is their rice, it’s always soggy and not jasmine rice like most Thai restaurants serve. They seem to use long grained rice and been overcooked every time we go.
Overall highly recommended this spot
Great food. Great price. Nice restaurant.

100% recommend this place.
Walked in and had 8 people with no reservation. A server made it difficult for us to get comfortable seating as he initially insisted we set the table near the door entrance where it was freezing!
After going back and forth with that server, we finally got to sit near the wall furthest from the door, with the help of other employees
I am glad we stayed and let the incident fade into the backgroud because boyyy the food was amazing. We had Alex as a server who was kind, attentive and informative. He suggested the red curry, especially for vegetarians and it did not disappoint! We got a whole bunch of curries, a duck dish, a basil fried rice and pad thai. The pad thai was just ok while everything else was yummy.
Maybe one of the best and authentic thai food in NJ. They even used lime leaves in the curry, i was impressed.
Tom Kha and Tom Yum soups were hearty and amazing! Loaded with veggies and chicken. We loved the shrimp se-ew as well, the noodle texture was perfection, the amount of shrimp was generous. All around a wonderful experience.
Such a sweet place to be at . Warm people, good food. Will be my go to place❤️

Best THAI food in town!! Everything I’ve ordered has always been delicious! They are consistently great and I highly recommend this restaurant and I would definitely give the veggie puffs stuffed with potato a try!!
Kai Yang Thai Restaurant in Montclair is a delightful dining experience, featuring a beautifully designed interior that exudes warmth and elegance. The food is outstanding, with a menu that includes must-try dishes like the rich and creamy Massaman curry, perfectly crispy spring rolls, and the delightful curry puffs, each bursting with flavor.
The chicken Rama, with its tender chicken and luscious peanut sauce, is a standout. The attentive and friendly waitstaff under the leadership of owner, Shereeenhance the experience, ensuring every visit is memorable. Whether you’re a Thai food enthusiast or new to the cuisine, Kai Yang offers a fantastic culinary journey in a stunning setting.
I ordered Penang with chicken and basil fried rice with shrimp cost me $35. Taste was not good, Penang is not creamy and fried rice has no taste or flavor, quantity was good though! Over rated and over priced!
My favorite Thai restaurant. I love love there food, and all the spicy goodness. I highly recommend.
Loved the food. Hits every time. Stephanie our waitress was fabulous great service super helpful and kind. Def coming back
I have been to this establishment on a few occasions and never had any issues until recently. I was eating my food and unbeknown to me two stands of hair was in my food. Unfortunately I found out the disgusting way 🤢. I thought this restaurant was clean but apparently I was wrong. My husband and I will never ever forget this awful experience. We will never eat there again. Good luck to anyone who does and check your food for hair before you eat.
It's tough to rate Service and Atmosphere since I did takeout.
I'm very disappointed to share that the food was terrible. I ordered takeout from this restaurant based on its 4.6-star rating, but I have no idea who considers this food good or even edible. I usually refrain from writing reviews unless the experience is this bad. We managed to eat some of it since we had no other option, but the rest is going in the trash. The only dish that might have been salvageable was the pad Thai noodles, without the overcooked, soggy vegetables. The basil chicken was drowned in a brown gravy, and I couldn't tell if they were aiming for a Thai or Chinese flavor. It's difficult to describe the taste or the complete lack thereof.
I honestly wish I had called them after trying the food, taken it back, and requested a refund. That would have been my first time, but it was so late. I recommend going to all SLA, KorKai, Sukhumvit, or anything else. This is by far the worst restaurant I have eaten at in Montclair.
Since I picked up the food, I can't comment on the service.
I will not go back.
Honestly I’ve tried Thailand food before this was not it and we went there on a not so busy day ! Me and my friend decided to go out and try and were disappointed. We ordered the pad Thai , half chicken and pineapple fried rice . I would say they need to season/ cook there food better the Che chow mein was way to greasy
Take out order. Fried rice, anyone you decide to eat, you won't be disappointed.
Excellent food and customer service!!
Good food and it’s a BYOB.
BUSS food. Almost cried into my fried rice it was so good. 10/10 would go again
Good looking place, but average food.
The curries didn’t have distinctive flavors Also they were too sweet and lacking in any other flavors.
Appetizers were OK. Pad kee Mao was decent and mango salad was good.
Overall not impressed. Won’t go again.
Had the drunken noodles, pretty insipid and sort of bland. Nice ingredients and good flat rice noodles, but overall could have been better.
I got the Padthai, when I opened it and started eating it I noticed that all of my noodles had been cut into small pieces like they were feeding a child. Everyone in the cooking industry knows never cut the damn pasta it's not hard. As far as the flavor there was way to much citrus in it, so much in fact I could barely taste the peanut sauce in my ridiculously short noodles. Honestly I think this place can do better and I hope they do because that experience really left something to be desired.

Food was decent but service can be improved a bit.
Nice place in downtown Montclair. Reasonably priced with basic, well made Thai food.
Tried Thai food for the first time last week. The food at this restaurant was so good that I'm still thinking about it! I tried the pineapple fried rice and mango sticky rice. Both dishes were amazing. The spot itself is vibrant and cozy. The staff were really friendly, seemed to genuinely care about our dining experience. I will definitely be returning!
Best flavor, quality, and service. A consistent favorite over the years
Literally our favorite Thai restaurant!
this place has very authentic tastes. the owners definitely has not changed much to suit the north american palate. it is exactly what you would get in asia.
Must must try the green curry and the fried banana!
We have tried different Thai restaurants, for us this place has the best food.
Jan 26, 2024 we dined in and ordered
Chicken dumplings- no good
Chicken satay- good!
Pineapple fried rice w/ shrimp- no good
Pad Thai w/vegetables - no good
The noodle dish was sweet (why) and tough, the rice was soggy(overcooked), and for some odd reason the shrimp tail was cut off from the shrimp but left in the rice… pointless and annoying to fish out shrimp tails in rice. If the chef cut the tails off already, why leave them in the dish? I love Thai, this particular place is way at the bottom of authentic Thai food. Service was good, although when she asked if we enjoyed the food, we were honest and she did nothing about it. No big deal. We didn’t continue eating the bad dishes & paid for everything. It happens, but will only happen once. Take my warning and go to a different restaurant for Thai.
Everything about Kai Yang was beyond 5 star. The food (Panang curry, Pineapple Chicken, Tom Kha soup, and vegetable spring rolls) was OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious. We especially loved the Pineapple chicken and Tom Kha soup. The staff was always refilling our water jug quickly before being asked and the food came out promptly. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable while it's a great feel for families, friends, or couples to enjoy! We will be returning and look forward to trying other meals here in the future. You cannot go to Montclair without visiting Kai Yang. Enjoy!
Best Thailand cuisine in the town! Great and very authentic flavors, reasonable prices and very easy going service. The only downside on it is dark interior circumstances and no kids menu, not friendly to family with kids, only personal experience. But we will come back again for food!
Food here was delicious, good atmosphere, food arrived quickly and our waitress was fun, personable and pleasant. Would definitely come again!
My appetizer was vegetable curry puffs, which were great. Afterwards, I ordered the duck dish with tamarind sauce and green curry. However, the duck was overcooked and one side was burnt. The sauces were fantastic but the duck was a turn off. It was like the cook didn’t care about the meat. Instead I got chicken pad Thai that was better cooked than the duck.
Spicy papaya salad was off the chain. Service was great. Spring rolls and puffs crispy and hot. Almost all dishes available as vegetarian, with or without tofu
Awesome food, good prices, good portion sizes, good service. I got the pad kee mao and it was delicious, but the sweet sticky rice for $3 is a real hidden gem. Sweet, warm, and covered in delicious sweet sauce, it is exactly what I hoped that sweet sticky rice would be!
Cute little spot. Service was a bit slow and chicken dumplings were mediocre. However, curries and rotisserie chicken were excellent. Spicy is very spicy! 🌶️
I am usually a takeout type, but Kai Yang is truly enjoyed best when dining in. Great date spot. Warm ambiance, great service, and the food is out of this world. Start it off w/ some tom yum soup. Give the specials a try (chef: please add the herb chicken curry puff as an everyday offering, I beg you!). All day chicken and some curry (massaman for me) are a must. Love this place!
Great service and good food. I'm happy to say I've never had a bad meal here.
Another great experience here! Stopped in when my family and I had the salmon smothered with the Tom ka sauce and some rice on the side. Yum yum yum all around. The slice of salmon is pretty large and portions are filling. The meal did not disappoint neither did the customer service. Montclair is a bit tough for parking esp on Bloomfield Ave but the surrounding streets have parking lots that are a short walk away. Give this spot a try!
Waste of $110 the absolute worst food I’ve ever had in my life.
Cosy little spot in Montclair with quick service, however the flavors were just okay. Not authentic Thai preparation. I went for dinner on 8/17/23 and was disappointed.
I got takeout for the family from here tonight and it was phenomenal! We have a Celiac person and they were responsive to the need of gluten free (for the Pad Thai). Everything was piping hot when we unpacked it and sat down with it. I would definitely return for dine in and recommend to everyone!
Overall, a great experience at this restaurant. Service and the server were A++. We got the Kai yang special, Tom kha soup, and the mango salad. All excellent and delicious. Interestingly enough the pad Thai we got for take out was the least exciting of them. But still yummy! Would definitely come back here. Such a great time.
Food was absolutely amazing. I ordered duck with red curry. It was soo good. Nice environment,
I love this place so much! I’ve been to many other Thai restaurants and this is definitely my favorite. I’ve tried most things on the menu and the food never disappoints me. The staff is always so kind, never had a bad time there. Been coming here for years now.
Simply phenomenal. The service was excellent and the food was tremendous.
The thom Ka soup? Look I can't tell you to eat soup but if you want to try something amazing and unique this is what you get. It was a good sized portion as an appetizer and the flavors were like a lemongrass and coconut combo. Everyone had a sip and just said WOW!
The chicken is a whole meal situation. We got dishes and split among the family. The sauces on this chicken were fantastic! One spicy one sweet it's a great combo.
Definitely get over here!!
I visited this restaurant on a Friday afternoon shortly after it opened for the day and I was seated immediately. It was nice to enjoy the restaurant when it was nearly empty before the large crowds (and noise) arrived. The atmosphere was inviting and warm.

Overall a very good experience!
Great service and atmosphere
it’s very unfortunate for my bank account for this place to be so close to me. i order their chicken pad see ew once a week to go but everything is so good, that or their mango sticky rice when they have mangoes on hand
I’m new to the area and was driving by looking for good. I went during the day for lunch and the food was amazing! I had the Thai fried rice and my aunt had the pad Thai. Portions are amazing and the service was great! I will be back indeed!
BYOB. Dumplings are out of this world. Make sure you get the rotisserie chicken option on the curry. Currently the best Thai food I have ever had. Fabulous.
I was drawn to kai yang by their great branding and had some lofty expectations since it was on Bloomfield Ave in a trendy area. Pad thai was a little too sweet as with everything else on the menu. Ambience and in-store decor was beautiful and lively. Other than that it was a run of the mill thai place with nothing spectacular. Will probably be back regardless.
I would of course come back here again. Caters to my taste and good selection.
My favorite Thai place in the area. The food is great every time. Great for dining in or for take out.
One of my favorites for Thai food. My server Alex is so incredibly kind and professional. Having inviting staff members makes all the difference.
Probably the best Thai I've had in Jersey, hands down
Delicious home-styled Thai cuisine. Our first time, but clearly not our last. Loved this place.
Best Thai food we’ve ever had.
No reason to go back. Soup too sweet and no real lemongrass flavor. Also tasted tomatoey which shouldn’t even be an ingredient. Rotisserie chicken was only flavorful near the wing. The meaty parts were bland and depended on the sauce for flavor. Pad Thai also too sweet. Adding sugar as an ingredient to appeal to some palates is always a pass for me.
Alex is so kind!
The most delicious Thai food I have, flavours are superb
Atmosphere and staff are amazing. I was not impressed with the food.
Best curry in the area
The food is so good here. The curries are amazing!
Went here after a show at The Wellmont, the food was delicious and perfectly portioned. My boyfriend and I shared the chicken dumplings and a Tom yum soup, which were both fantastic. My red curry chicken was great, and my boyfriend enjoyed his chicken pad Thai. We definitely plan on coming back!
Best Thai in the area that also has great/friendly service. Our daughter loves their Thai iced tea. Yum!
Visited this place for my birthday lunch. Place has amazing and cute vibes and is very clean. Staff is friendly and service is pretty fast.
Food - Veggie puffs, chicken satay were the best in Apps
Salad- Papaya salad is amazing..ask them to make it medium spicy to balance the taste
Mains- We ordered Pad Kee Mao in vegetarian and shrimp versions along with chicken gravy and rice. Mains were really delicious.
Soup - Tom yum and Tom kha vegetarian..both had really good taste
Highly recommend this Thai place if you are in Montclair.
We love this place and the food is good, and do non spicy food for kids if you ask. Definitely recommend!
Delicious ad always! You were out of the fried calamari but the chicken dumplings were yummy! Thank you ad always! And the fried duck was amazing!
Oof, will not order again. Pad Thai was really sweet and the noodles were way overcooked. Our search for good Thai in Montclair area continues. Would not recommend this place to someone.
Absolutely loved my experience at this restaurant. The vibe is super cute and relaxing. The food was really delicious and can't beat the prices! Would recommend time and time again.
Great little hole in the wall restaurant. Excellent food and service.
Feeds the soul honestly. Came here on a whim one day and was so pleasantly surprised by the food and atmosphere, we now make it a point to visit regularly!
Their food was good. We tried the pineapple fried rice and the pad kee mow (which I prefer without eggs)
Found an authentic, very delicious Thai restaurant. Wonderful complex flavors. Bring your wine and enjoy a the tasty dishes.
My absolute favorite Thai spot! Staff is amazing!!!!!!
Great food and service! Got the pad se ew and the Masaman curry. Tasty!
The Chicken Rama dish is amazing! Also, the sweet sticky rice is a delicious “dessert” you have to try.
I really love Thai food and they had an amazing Thai curry. The name of the restaurant is named after specific dish that I ordered. The curry is so complex in flavor. Just delicious. As I'm writing it, I'm craving. It. Service was phenomenal. Staff very friendly. Atmosphere beautiful. This is very date night. Perfect girls night. I definitely will be going back. Highly recommend!
Loved going here for to go or dine in. Food is fresh and quality is great. Try the Basil fried rice and any curry.
Small intimate space, delicious food and knowledgeable servers. Erica is the best!!!
Beautiful decor, delicious food, great service The staff is really amazing and the owner stoped by our table to ensure our experience was above our expectations.
We tried several apps and entrees, all were perfect and the taste was spot on. The dipping sauces are made in house and can’t be beat!
After our dinner we had the fried ice cream, if the dinner wasn’t enough, the dessert blew us away.
You must try it!
We plan on going with a larger group next week.
Best Thai food we had in a while, and we visit Thai restaurants very often!
Support this local gem and you will be happy you did.
Enjoy the experience!
Great food!!
First Thai place in Montclair we visited and it was so amazing! Great atmosphere and service. Our waiter was great and we have such delicious food. Prices are also A+
Very good Thai food. Pretty expensive especially for lunch as there are no specials. Have had pad thai and penang and both were delicious. Never too crowded but on the high end with their prices so can't be a regular thing.
Oh my god one of the best thai places ever.
Best Thai food around, great menu with some varied dishes that you can’t find elsewhere. Prices are decent, especially with current inflation. Nice employees.
This place was phenomenal from start to finish, truly. Food was divine, super tasty, filling and exhilarating to the senses. The place was cozy and intimate, and the service was over the top (Alex is a legend). Music was not loud at all and I can say it truly brought joy into my heart, the only place in new Jersey that I can say that about. HIGHLY recommend this place!!
So cute, and the food was really good. Four of us went, we had Pad Thai, drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice and Thai Basil chicken. The pad Thai was a four out of five. Good, but not amazeballs. Same with drunken noodles. Both the Thai Basil chicken and the fried rice were 5/5.
Oh, and have the fried banana with ice cream after. You won’t regret it.
Food always good lol on my lunch break I usually get a quick bite of the chicken satay appetizer and Thai iced tea
Best thai food in North Jersey! Chicken Rama is exceptional. Curries are phenomenal. And the service is friendly and very attentive.
Staff were wonderful. I had the half chicken with massaman curry and the shrimp pad Thai. I couldn't decide which i liked more. I would go back and try the half chicken with the red curry (i heard it was really good).
Best Thai food I've had anywhere. You're cheating yourself if you don't get the rotisserie chicken. I know it may not sound like anything special, but it is absolutely amazing. Every bite is tender, juicy, and packed full of delicious Thai spices. I could honestly eat this chicken every day.
Though, to be clear, this place is not just great chicken, the other Thai food on the menu is also close to as good as it gets. With the best calamari and curry puff I've had from any Thai restaurant (and I've been to my fair share) this place cements itself far above the rest with every dish. On top of that, the rice is unlike the rice you can find at any other run of the mill Thai place. It's sticky rice, which is exactly what it sounds like, and yes, it's great.
I will definitely be returning here. Every time I eat Thai food now, I just think of this place and how much better the food is here. And, as for that rotisserie chicken, do yourself a favor and get it.
I've been here multiple times and every single time the service and food is fantastic!!
Menu is simple. Food is quite tasty. Service was great
I’m only guessing that great ratings for this place were based on something else other than their food. My partner and I love thai food, and we have tried many places before with friends from Thailand. The food here just didn’t taste authentic comparing to other good thai restaurant that we have been to. I had the Pad Thai with duck the other day, but I only tasted the oyster sauce and nothing else, when the dish lack the smell of fish sauce and brown sugar, it tastes like Chinese take-out. Not sure if this was just me, or something went wrong the day I visited.
So good! It's so good! It's just soooo good!
Wonderful food. Wonderful restaurant. Love this place so much.
Great great drunken noodles. loved it.
Nice and plentiful unfortunately no liquor license
Kai Yang is my Thai food go to. Always fresh and authentic.
Did not meet expectations. Service was good. Pineapple chicken was too sweet. Pad Thai and basil stir fry were ordinary.
Food was flavorful, good size portion and overall very nice atmosphere with friendly waitress and staff
Delicious food, cute spot, awesome staff
Excellent food & friendly staff! Our new favorite Thai restaurant!
Delicious! My husband and I really enjoyed our meal. We ordered chicken dumplings, Tom yum soup, the marinated chicken with curry, and fried bananas with icecream. Everything was very enjoyable and the portions were plentiful. The service was surprisingly fast for how busy it was. Our server Stef was super friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back for our next Thai fix :)
