Went for lunch on a Monday afternoon. Promptly seated as it was slow. Offered water and menus. Ordered the lunch special of 2 for $14 with spicy salmon and the califorina roll, and we ordered another full order of the rainbow roll. The rainbow roll has great flavor and texture. The spicy salmon was Minnesota nice spice! And the California roll is just a classic. To have sushi this good for a fair price was definitely a treat on a Monday afternoon!
I had a very lovely experience here last night, and was treated with the upmost respect from all of the workers. I was promptly seated to a table and was greeted by our server, Isabel. She was very kind and informative of what was on the menu and gave terrific suggestions to me and my party of three. She was spectacular in accommodating for my dietary restrictions and the food stands as arguably, the best I have had in the Twin Cities. If you value great hospitality and amazing quality of food, Soberfish is perfect for you.
I got the Tom Kha Gai. It was absolutely spectacular, and I would go back again just for that. Portion was very generous.
I also got the pineapple fried rice with chicken. To be honest I’ve had better at other places and I don’t know as I would order this again. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but it certainly won’t be the best version of this meal that you’ll have in your lifetime. The rice could’ve used some more flavor, and the chicken was a bit dry.
The appetizer we got was the vegetable tempura. Again, I’ve had better. It wasn’t bad, but I think the batter could have used some more flavor.
Therefore, I’m deducting a star for the food, even though the soup I would rate six stars.
Service was fine, and our waitress was very friendly. Ambience was nice.
There was no parking other than street parking, and I was not a fan of that - especially considering it was below freezing when we went.
Overall, I will return to this restaurant. I will not be eating the fried rice again, but I will certainly get the soup again, and I look forward to try other options on the menu.
Yummy stir fry that tasted like curry 😋 I wasn’t a fan of the bowl though because it spilled everywhere. The baked muscles, papaya salad, dumplings, and oysters were good. Personally thought the sushi rolls were decent but not my personal fav. Lastly the strawberry mimosa & mango mimosa was delicious & definitely hit!
This restaurant offers a delightful selection of main entrees, and their customer service is top-notch. While the majority of their food items are amazing, it’s worth noting that their sushi menu is limited to just two non-raw options. As someone who doesn’t eat raw sushi, I found this aspect slightly disappointing. Other than that, this is such a wonderful place to go to.
I recently dined at a restaurant and was truly impressed by the exceptional service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure a delightful dining experience. From the moment I entered, they made me feel welcomed and valued. They were knowledgeable about the menu, provided insightful recommendations, and catered to dietary preferences seamlessly. Throughout the meal, they checked in regularly to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. This level of service undoubtedly enhanced my overall enjoyment of the meal, and I can't wait to return for another wonderful experience.
Great happy hour and real good food.

Very good curry that satisfies my cravings!

I absolutely love the food here, staff are always friendly.
Favorite restaurant hands down. Im there on a regular basis, my surrounding circle of people are also obsessed now.
I'm not sure if the cook was having an off day but our food tasted exactly like maruchans ramen, the both was tasteless, I ordered noodles and my baby did NOT like her dish! She's a pretty picky eater and noodles are always a failsafe, but not this time. We wasted $50. Find another spot for food.
Everytime I order takeout it’s anyone’s guess whether they’ll get it correct. This time it was shrimp in the curry instead of tofu. I’m done ordering takeout. It’s been too many mistakes over a long time. Sorry Soberfish I just can’t do it anymore. All the best.
the food was horrible if I could give it 0 stars I would. We ordered cream cheese wontons, shrimp tempura roll, egg rolls, pad Thai and the chicken satay with peanut sauce
shrimp tempura roll was by far the worst the Salmon tasted old and had a smell, the glaze was slimy and disgusting, the shrimp was dry and flavorless, could not finish and it was $20, it appears to have been made the day before, very disappointing
cream cheese wontons were flavorless and greesy
egg rolls were okay, but greasy and didn't have much flavor
chicken satay was rubbery, the peanut sauce was horrible with grease sitting on top
the pad Thai was flavorless, greasy, and the chicken was gross, could not finish the dish
I will never be eating here again
We've been coming for years and stopped by today for a late lunch. The food is wonderful! Pineapple curry with tofu is a big family favorite. Thank you!
Friendly service. I got shrimp dunkard noodles and was uneatable. The noodles were broken and mushed together and shrimp bland.
Excellent sushi
My wife and I shared two roles and an order of vegetable pad Thai for dinner. Everything was excellent. The only knock I would give the sushi is that the ginger was a bit soggy, but over all I give soberfish 10/10. I know we'll be back for more food in the future.

Food was great but the service was a little slow. But we were in no hurry so it's not a big deal. Had the fish soup and it was absolutely delicious. The other dishes we had were also great but the soup was the best.
I normally love sober fish and we frequently eat there.
Tonight our delivery meal was not well prepared and was unappetizing.
The egg rolls, I was looking forward to enjoying, were burned and inedible. The Sweet and Sour Pork's vegetables were cut crudely in large chunks. There were no pineapples as noted in the menu. The pork was cut in large pieces requiring to be cut again to eat.
So disappointed.
Lovely diner atmosphere with great choices
Sushi and Thai
Spicy Salmon and Tuna rolls are personal FAVORITES
10th anniversary!!!! It was a vibe. DJ 8/10 Food 10/10 Drinks 10/10 Free champagne 12/10. Also won a 50$ Gift card definitely will be back.

Great dinner. Always great food.
I've gotten takeout from here multiple times and have been satisfied, but this past time was incredibly lackluster.
Specifically checked the menu to make sure there were no mushrooms in the Thai Egg Rolls - well they showed up with mushrooms in them - guess the posted menu is incorrect.
Curry was bland as can be, but not as tasteless as the Pad See Yew - ugh, threw that one in the garbage.
Maybe the kitchen had an incredibly off night - or maybe I need to find another Thai place.
Takeout on 4/27-the employees were pretty friendly but personally- I would not recommend the holy basil tofu fried rice. I expecting more flavor and it tastes like all that’s in it is rice, oil, salt, tofu, and basil with a strong egg flavor. Not horrible but pretty unmemorable to be honest. That being said, I seem to recall having enjoyed some of their other food in the past- I think the curries are tasty
The peanut curry is amazing! The sushi and spring rolls were delicious as well. A great place to eat!
Don't be like me - forgot my driver's license at home during happy hour. But the food, atmosphere and pineapple juice was good
The food is so good here🤤, it is moderately priced, but you get a ton of food. Definitely enough to take left overs, and have a second meal.
Enjoyed the vegetable rainbow medley entree for takeout, but there are better veggie spring rolls out there.
Came here for lunch during my sisters work break, we ordered edemame, one roll and 2 sashimi. We waited over 7 minutes after being sat and ordered everything right away. The roll came out 20 minutes later and the edemame came after we finished our sushi. We had to grab a box for the edemame which we realize was bland. Service was slow even tho we were one of 4 tables. Do not recommend
Soberfish is by far one of the best happy hours on this planet. Such good sushi for an incredible price. Probably venture there once a month and will continue doing so. Thank you Soberfish!
I go here for lunch often, but don’t want to since they have children playing around in the restaurant and the coughing from the children, and staff not good!
Good stuff in a lively space. We would easily have ordered more drinks but didn't seem to have wait staff interested enough to check on us.
Good place good food awesome happy hour
Consistently good food
A neighborhood gem great Thai food and sushi Attentive staff ❤️ love the Lychee martinis
Server was a bit strange.
The food completely made up for her.
When you walk in the door, there is no fish smell.
Very important!
The food temperature was perfect.
Texture, flavor, all spot on!
We drove 25 minutes to get here, and will absolutely be back.
I came for lunch today and was so pleasantly surprised with the quality of fish in the sushi. The fish was so fresh and truly melted in your mouth (especially the escolar, salmon, and salmon belly). The lunch specials are nice since you pay anywhere from $11-$15, but you really want to get nigiri/sashimi because the fish is so flavorful and tender. Still amazing prices ($6-$10 for two pieces of nigiri) regardless. The sushi chef on staff was so kind to me and even gave me a taste of his version of a Rolly Polly filled with salmon belly. Seriously my favorite sushi place in Minnesota, even in the Midwest!
Really good, down to earth Thai food at reasonable prices.
Food is good at this restaurant and we come often. However service is usually slow. Tonight we came at 8:20 and they didn’t want to seat us because the last call was in 5 minutes 40 minutes before closing! They should say “Close at 8:30” Definitively not coming back. They could do better.
Everything was very well made and the store is really cool inside. The owner spent time with us and is really kind and very welcoming! Portions are great and food is delicious. Thank you for a awesome time!
Hands down the worst Thai food I have had. Got Thai basil fried rice with vegetables and I got something that tasted like egg fried rice with onions :(((
Tom yum soup tasted like dish wash water.
Fresh spring rolls was just lettuce and cucumbers.
Fantastic quality sushi, our server was great
Love this place! I hardly write reviews, but for Sober Fish- I had to. It’s a small, cute, and little cozy gem. They have the BEST happy hour in the twin cities! I suggest going in 11am-3pm for lunch specials and 3pm-6pm for happy hour.
Their sashimi is a hit or miss, but it’s understandable depending on when they get their shipment and same for the service, some days they are fully staffed and some days they are short- just have to be patient or ask why for the slow service.
Best cheap date spot or afterwork spot!
It's my first experience to eat I'm appreciate
Fantastic Thai and sushi. All dishes were impeccably prepared.
Second time in a row ordering food for take out that is practically inedible. The rice is mushy and one of our other dishes is flavorless. Very disappointing. This place is totally hit or miss. They are inconsistent and when it’s bad it is really bad. I won’t be wasting my money here again.
Worst Thai food I’ve had and I’ve been to all the Thai restaurants in mpls.
Delicious and not bad prices for Minneapolis
Semi-slow service at times but the food was delicious.
I asked for hot with Thai spicy on the side if I wanted more which I used and it still seemed sweet to me and I ordered another side of Thai spicy sauce and it still wasn't enough.
My meal was the Magnificent Massaman Curry with chicken.
The Japanese old fashioned was excellent
Delicious
Decided to try and catch happy hour before it ended at 6. My party and I were seated by 5:40. Our waitress didn’t come to our table until 6 on the dot. Not a great first impression. Food was good and the atmosphere was really nice. Just wished our waitress had explained to us why it took so long to even greet us. Whether it’s being short staffed or other issues being the reason, communicate with your customers.
Waited just over a full hour for an order that had been called in in advance.
Horrible service. Obnoxious patrons laughing at the fact you're to wait in the cold entry for pickups.
Avoid.
Good sushi if that's your thing. Super 😎 chill
I'm not sure how this place has more than 4 stars! Starting with that only the appetizers took like 1 hour and 10 min to come out. The place wasn't even busy I think they only had one waitress. The wings came out I mean look at the picture. The wings had a weird texture and the wontons had no taste. Fried tasteless bread with ketchup! I had to go because the sushi never came out. They charged me for the sushi I had ask them to take it out. They wanted me to take the sushi after the horrible experience. Never again!. Fake reviews.
You guys are super awesome! Great sushi and great prices. Super chill atmosphere. Got bday dinner here with friends, agreat time and definitely worth it!
This place has one of the best happy hours in the twin cities
Excellent happy hour 🎉
Such good sushi and fun happy hour options!
Fun and enjoyable atmosphere too.
Love this place! One of my favorite restaurants for pad Thai, and apps. Their HH is great but i generally get take out.
Sober Fish occupies the building that True Thai (a truly great Thai restaurant) occupied. Because we often ate at True Thai, it was impossible not to compare the two but because it had been over a decade since we last visited True Thai, it's also impossible to make an accurate comparison. That said, just looking at the menu shows that Soberfish doesn't serve the unique Thai dishes that populated the menu of True Thai but rather fairly standard fare available at mainstream Thai restaurants. However, after trying one of my favorite standard selections (chicken with fresh young ginger), I feel that their rendition of the dish was a cut above most Thai restaurants. The vegetables used were fresh, distinguished, and worked together well. The sauce was very flavorful and the portion size was generous. I would need to try many more of their offerings to make a fair comparison of Soberfish to my other favorite Thai restaurants. However, I would say that the Soberfish rendition of chicken with fresh ginger is about on par with the Thai Curry House rendition but in a different way (TCH simple goodness with outstanding sauce; SF interesting and flavorful vegetables and decent sauce). My tastebuds look forward to doing more research at Soberfish.
Here's my purely subjective comparison of Soberfish to True Thai: Soberfish has the same quality but with a standard Thai restaurant menu. If you want adventurous variety, look elsewhere. But if good renditions of standard Thai fare is what you seek, Soberfish seems to fill that niche very well.
Over priced
Great prices! Best panang curry I've had in MPLS.
Have had there takeout several times and that has been a much better experience. The service was extremely slow and I don’t think they cared whether we were there or not.
Fresh, flavorless food served by friendly, slow, forgetful wait staff. Good happy hour specials and mellow ambience, not too loud, good for conversation. Bring your own seasonings.
Delicious
Easy parking behind the restaurant which stands on a busy corner. There appears to be a second dining area which could be used for private events. The space itself at night is not very inviting. Lighting, table and booth arrangement, and decor did not appear to get much attention. The food, however was quite good. Typically extensive menu with several pages of Thai offerings. From the sushi menu, the crunch roll I had was large and tasty. The special rolls were all in the $17-18 range. Probably better as a lunch place, but worth visiting.
Sober Fish is the absolute best. Amazing Pad Thai and wontons <3 I've introduced many friends to this place and gotten them hooked
Always terrific food and service
I got drunken noodles and pad see ew to go. They were both yummy! The drunken noodles were my favorite while the pad see ew was good but I wish it was a little bit punchier in flavor like the drunken noodles were. The drunken noodles had a subtle spice which was nice but not at all overwhelming. Still everything was very yummy and and satisfying to eat! Our friend LOVES the curry and says he gets it every time!
The sushi was pretty good. I would say not the best sushi but for the price it was good.
Food is always phenomenal! More than a few times I've waited to order before they even opened. It's a gem!
I really love this place, best service, best food 🥘 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food was fine but the service was sooooo bad. We were at the restaurant for nearly 2 hours. Took 45 mins to actually put in our order because our waiter, Danielle, was totally absent. very frustrating for it to take this long!!
The food at Soberfish is always good. Unfortunately, the service is lacking. They always seem shorthanded. Long wait to be seated - even when the dining room is mostly empty. Long wait for sushi. Meals for diners at the same table sometimes arrive several minutes apart. Oten, it seems like the server is new at this. There is usually a long wait for take-out. Today, I biked over to pick up take-out. I sat in the vestibule with 3 other people for several minutes waiting for attention. A couple of orders sat within view on the bar getting cold. Turns out one was mine. A server dashed by promising to "be right with us". Eventually, she was. Once I got home, I saw that one of the items I ordered, the Cucumber Salad, was missing. I hate to disappoint my wife, so I biked back and waited while the bartender went to find it. After a couple of minutes in the microwave, My Holy Basil Fried Rice was good. I'll give Soberfish another try, but I wonder how many customers, disappointed with the service, have given up.
I really enjoyed our dining experience. Nice, comfortable atmosphere. Our server was very nice, friendly, and attentive. Good food.
Soberfish has the best pad Thai in Minneapolis. A lot of pad Thai seems to have almost a ketchup-like base to it but Soberfish’s is nuttier in the best way. Their Happy Hour is awesome for food especially - really great deals 7 days a week. I typically just get their Pad Thai, but their sushi is also good, and when I come here with friends and they get something other than pad Thai 🤣, they are very happy too! I recommend dining in over delivery though. The freshly made stuff is just so much better (true of many Thai places tho).
Black pepper and garlic with chicken on a bed of lettuce with cucumbers. So delicious!
Best Thai near the West Bank. Good food, good service, cool vibe.
Recently ordered a take out order of vegetable pad Thai with a Thai hot heat level. The order contained just noodles, no vegetables and zero heat. Disappointed as that was an expensive bowl of just noodles.
Waitress and waiters prefer talking to each more than serving customers. Food quality isn't there as it used to be.
Cancelled the Uber order which is highly unprofessional. Wouldn’t recommend if you want to place a reliable order.
Pad thai was soggy and bland. I re-stir fried the leftover pad thai and added flavor. Overall, good quality sushi. We tried the following: Philly, California, Spicy Tuna, Caterpillar. Papaya salad was good. Fiery beef salad was good as well. I'd recommend a visit!
Casual comfortable atmosphere, delicious Thai food, friendly service.
Food was good and big portions, good prices. But the service was not super friendly, and even though we were the first guests when they opened at 11, and there were no other guests, it still took a long time for our food to come out. And it actually smelled pretty bad in the restaurant, as if there was some bad fish. Really should have aired it out.
The food were delicious. Service can be better. Explaining what each dishes about will go long way. Couple of our choices were not good.
Amazing food! I had the green curry with tofu and it was so bomb. 11/10
Food is delicious and atmosphere is great. My favorite dish to order here is the lemon chicken soup. It’s very creamy, coconutty and yummy. My boyfriend likes the fiery beef salad. It’s a little too spicy for me personally but I always find myself indulging it sooner or later anyway! The staffs are always friendly and shout out to the male server with dark curly hair and pearl necklace for always doing an excellent job.
I was very impressed by the happy hour menu - The amount of items available and portion size for the happy hour price is kind of insane, especially in this restaurant economy. I don’t think there is a better happy hour anywhere else in the metro area. The food is excellent and the drinks are pretty good too. Check it out!
When you wait 15 minutes for food and they tell you. It's gonna be fifteen to twenty minutes more just get in the car and leave
Had the Chinese broccoli stir fry.. still thinking about it months later 🥰 delicious!!
Food was amazing! Pineapple curry was bomb. Spice level was perfection as well. Slow building heat is my favorite.
(Pan fried) Gyoza was very good. Slightly crispier than I’m used to.
Japanese Mule was great as well, props to the bartender that made it. Great flavor.
I would normally knock a star because service was sub-par, but I can’t fault the server as I think he may need to see a doc for some ADD meds. His focus needs some serious help. Nice dude and seems like a hard worker, but memory skills and focus could use some help.
Can’t recommend this place enough though. Honestly the only reason left to visit the neighborhood.
I have tried alot of thai/lao/vietnamese/japanese restaurants....never have I had awesome beef laab and sushi in the same spot. Service is on point. Food is amazing. Prices are very comfortable for everyone. Happy hour is worth a stop.
Food is delicious and decent for the price but service is hit or miss. This last time, service was terrible, won't be returning.
(You'd figure a $500 bill for six people would get ya some solid service....)
My second time here. First time wait after been sitting was long but nothing crazy the server was actually attentive and the food was awesome.
My second time, we sat for 1hr 15min.
The food is actually on point, the server's were awful everyone in the back packing to go orders, no hostess no bartender everyone been busy in the back.
I witnessed 4 tables getting up and leaving after been sitting for 30 to 45 min without any server coming around.
Great potential here, location is great food is very good. Just take care of your server problems and a recommendation please install some sound boxes it gets loud in there
Worst service I’ve had in YEARS. Our server was ridiculously slow, didn’t bring our certain things we ordered, never re filled our waters or checked upon us. My friend said they had this server a few times before and the service here is always this way.
I enjoyed all the appetizers I had but the sushi and Pad Thai was alright. I had higher expectations. But it’s a good value for the price you pay on happy hour
I didn't eat, but the prices looked good. The service just wasn't their though, I almost left after 10 minutes at the bar...without a beverage..
Great inexpensive lunch specials!
Take-out or dine-in the food is always top notch. Highly recommend the curry!
Always enjoy going here. Food is so delicious. Excellent service.
So yummy. Get the crunchy roll.
Great, reasonably priced sushi with a fun atmosphere. Their happy hour specials are remarkably cheap, but they definitely don't taste cheap.
One of my favorite sushi places in the twin cities. I will absolutely be going back. The presentation of the food was above and beyond. There is something for every price scale to eat here. The sushi and fish itself you can taste the quality. The service was amazing as well. I love how this hits a balance between homey and upscale. They even have plenty of vegan and vegetarian options!
The Happy Hour is insane!!!! A huge plate of Pad Thai for $10, a gorgeous caterpillar roll, amazing drink specials and a very nice bartender made for a wonderful dinner. I just moved to the neighborhood and am sure this will be my regular spot.
Really fantastic food and drinks. My husband and I stumbled upon this place by chance and we will definitely be returning.
Great eats! The sushi was fresh. I had the curry chicken with peanuts over spinach & bean sprouts. Great option if you want to avoid all the rice. The fish comes with rice but I didn't eat it. Service size was generous too!
Best happy hour in the city!
Best sushi in st paul
Love this place. Fresh food, lovely cozy ambience and good wait staff.
Vegans should steer clear of this place because they haven't the foggiest idea how to veganize their food. First they told me that massaman curry could not be made vegan because apparently they've never heard of vegan fish sauce, then when I tried the vegan Pad Thai, I realized that they had no idea how to flavor noodles without fish sauce. I've never had such terrible Pad Thai, and I've eaten Thai food in Montana! Don't waste your time with a restaurant that can't be bothered to do even the most minimal research on how to make tasty vegan food.
Sushi is awesome for vegetarians
Soooo good! We haven't been this satisfied in a while. You gotta try the veggie egg rolls and the lychee sake!! And we were SHOCKED at the happy hour prices! Not to mention amazing service!
Came in for lunch on a Monday and they were severely understaffed. It took quite some time for our food to come out.
I ordered the basil fried rice w/ shrimp. It was delicious but I only counted 4 pieces of shrimp considering I had to pay extra for that. Also ordered sushi but that came out 10 minutes after I had finished my meal. I had thought they forgot by then but it still made it and to my surprise it was okay not great. Asked for the bill and that took for ever to get to the table. Overall it was not a good experience.
Hire more people..
One of my favorite sushi Thai restaurants. Have been multiple times. Very much recommend.
