I decided to try this place on my lunch break, tempted by the rave reviews and my craving for Thai food. I ordered my usual Thai dish—chicken pad Thai with a side of coconut curry sauce. The meal was decent and I’d order from here again. You get a great amount of food for the price which is a plus. Additionally, the staff was very helpful, especially since it was my first time ordering/trying this restaurant. 8/10.

Delicious chicken fried rice. The pad Thai was also very good (but the chicken fried rice was better!) The atmosphere is kinda strange, it seems like there’s a lot of boxes that are not put away but I’m guessing they use the main dining room for storage since you cannot eat inside if you want full service. They just don’t offer it. The food was ready very fast (10 minutes) and the portions were huge and lasted at least two meals. Paid around $40 for all the food pictured, including the tip. I would definitely order from here again.

I love Thai food, and this is definitely in my top 5 for metro Detroit! I ordered the Pad Se Ew with shrimp, and it came out literally less than 5 minutes after I ordered. They only do carry out right now but there is seating available. My food was super hot and SO good! I didn’t love the spring roll but I just prefer the smaller version. I parked in the lot next door for $1.25/hr

I think this restaurant is great, but honestly them being open is so inconsistent. Seems like they never follow posted/scheduled business hours. I absolutely love the food but hate the sporadic nature of how the owners operate the business. More consistency would be appreciated.

This is by far the best Thai restaurant in the Detroit area. Everything is affordable and they give you large tasty portions. Their recipe and quality of the food hasn’t changed at all since I ate here as a kid. Ordered the chicken and shrimp fried curry. Spicy and yummy as always. Wish there were more restaurants like this around. 10/10 ;)

This place had very good reviews so we gave it a try, we're out-of-towners. Being vegan and vegetarian we were able to order a couple of items off the menu, and they were excellent. Our friend who is not vegetarian had gotten there before us and finished his meal already and he gave us a tip - their dishes are really, really hot and spicy! So we ordered a four out of ten on the heat scale, and he was right! The waitress said that was a medium level, but boy was it HOT! My eyes were watering and nose running - but it was so good I couldn't stop eating. Huge heaping portion, enough to take home for a second meal. Yes, the decor of the place isn't high-class, but who the heck cares when the food is this good! I'd give this place 5 stars if they had more vegan choices on the menu, that's my only critique.

Best Thai food hands down 🙌🏽 I always get the pad prik with shrimp and chicken. Worth it for the price. I love my food spicy and they give it to me spicy when I ask. I just wish you could get noodles with some entrees. The lady I spoke with said I couldn't even pay an up charge for noodles 😖

It’s a carry out situation. But the counter staff and kitchen crew are ACE!

I used to come here often and things have really changed. The service was very subpar, they barely spoke when trying to place an order. I requested no tomatoes, as I have a food allergy, in my chicken fried rice and they told me no, they couldn’t do that. I will not be returning. Customer service is at an all time LOW.

This is our new favorite place for takeout. The chicken satay is beyond delicious. The Pad Thai also was divine and had just the right amount of heat because they definitely don’t skimp on it! I definitely recommend this place if you like spicy and savory dishes. I’m looking forward to exploring the menu more.

Been coming here since the 1980’s. Food used to be 5-star when they cooked the meat fresh in a wok, but now they pre-steam their meat earlier in the day so it’s tasteless, dry, and feels like your chewing old gum. You do get your order fast, but I’d rather wait longer for better quality food. Their se’ew and dry noodles are my go-to’s. There’s a place a 1/2 mile away that cooks tender meat fresh for every order, but their sauces are not nearly as good, and a place across the street that’s just dirty, so I keep coming back here hoping it will be better, and it’s close to my house. Still no dine-in service since Covid, they let you eat out of styrofoam in the old dining room if that doesn’t bother you like it does me.

Never disappointed. Had the Chicken Curry and the Three's Company. So yummy!

Ordered two dishes and two appetizers to go. Unfortunately, I was let down by the taste. Quick and affordable with large portions. But I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my experience.

When I moved from Ferndale to Ann Arbor, I knew I would be coming back for only the best Thai food, served up at Bangkok Cafe! My favorite is pad cashew chicken, but I also love all of the noodle entrées here. The portions are still very generous, and the price is competitive.

Tables aren't kept cleaned they look at you as if they really don't want your money. Food has too many juices spills out the bag and the box. I've had better!

Very fast pace..

I love this place - I've been dining here for decades and the food is consistently excellent. IMO the best Thai food in the metro. The Gaeng Keow Wan (w/ kafir lime leaf) and their soups are excellent. Unfortunately, it has become a carry out place that allows you to eat on-site without table service.

I have been going here since I was in high school. I joined the air force and after 3 years I came back and they still remembered me. I was so busy talking to them when I left that I forgot my credit card. A year later I came back and they still had my credit card and remembered to give it back to me.

10/10 the best restaurant in all of metro detroit. When I come back home it is a must stop ❤️

Stopped by Ferndale today and ordered chicken satay and Tom Yum soup. No shrimp for the Tom Yum. Just chicken. While everything was OK, the Tom Yum soup and chicken satay at Spicy Thailand Restaurant in Warren and Jee’s Top 5 on Fort Street in Southgate are light years better.

Very bland pad Thai, had to add my own sauce at home to make it enjoyable. Good service and portion sizes just wasn’t feeling any flavor at all.

Large portions of mediocre Thai food served in styrofoam. Tom Kha Gai had pieces of lemon grass and lime leaves - but was thin and bland.

Best Thai food in the Detroit area. Reasonably priced. Meals are pretty large. Calling ahead is not necessary, they're very very fast. Usually takes less than 5 minutes to cook both dishes I order. If you don't like spicy food, be sure to order it "mild" or put the spice on the side. Anything medium or beyond will have you breathing fire.
The only negative about Bangkok Cafe is that it's located in Ferndale, the land of "pay to park". Sometimes there is nowhere to park, even for 5 minutes, and there's a parking lot right next to the building.

Best Thai food in the area, IMO. I recommend the vegetable delight (pad pak)... Delicious!

Portion sizes are LARGE. My entree was $10 and two FULL meals for me. 10/10 taste. Spice level was perfect. I like spice and medium had my nose dripping in just the right way LOL. Highly recommend. They had a mountain of carry out orders but only took 5-10 mins to prepare mine.

The food is great! If you like Thai food, then give them a try. The restaurant is very small! It's not a seat down area, although having said that they have booths with wooden seats and a table where you can sit down and enjoy your meal (if there's one available ). The kitchen is small and open, so you can see the cooks, cooking in the back.
The host will ask you what type of spice (heat) you prefer in your food. If you don't like spicy food then get your food without spices. A medium is an equivalent to VERY 🔥 hot for many people. We love spicy food so for us the heat was great!
Their sweet tea and iced coffee are VERY sweet. The iced coffee comes black, but they do have cream packages per request.

We had hoped for a full service restaurant. There was only self service. The food was very generous portions and delicious.

This is still my favorite Thai restaurant, fast service, hot food and very tasty. The place is takeout only or self serve table, meaning no waitress to serve you due to limited staff. The food is usually excellent quality, with fresh ingredients and well portioned servings. Pad Thai is my go to, but they do have rice dishes as well. Satay is excellent, and the peanut sauce is to die for, order it as a side no matter what you get, well worth it. I use it to dip spring rolls, fresh rolls, pour on top over dishes, it works on many levels. Highly recommend, fast take out service, always gets my order right, friendly staff and helpfully. $15-20 per person meals. Generous portions.

This is our go to Thai restaurant and it's not even in our neighborhood! When we lived in Ferndale 30 years ago we discovered Bangkok Cafe and we've been coming back regularly ever since! The food is fresh, portions are ample and prices are reasonable. Staff is super friendly! Never a hassle to customize your dish and have it your way.

Not what it was before the plan demic... Great food but no table service anymore. Basically a take out place. Prices too high for a place that stores their supplies in the dining area. Too bad. Very busy but they do work hard and keep up with the orders. Minus one star for no table service and one for prices/appearance. Otherwise, great place/9 Mile staple.

This place is almost just as good as Bangkok Crossing that closed down on Woodward in Detroit. The only issue I have is that they do not serve their food with brown rice. Other than that they are the bomb!

Been a regular here since the early 90's and the food is still GREAT! Prices have gone up as to be expected, but is the best in Michigan as far as I'm concerned. And to whoever said they need to fix their phone lines, you are probably not a regular. Phone line is busy because their food is that great and everyone is trying to order at the same time! You just have to be patient and keep calling until you get through.

Always check your food. I’d stand at the counter and open every container. This is the THIRD order in a row I’ve gotten without part of my order. Finding a new Thai place.

I walked in, ordered 2 orders of N2, pad se ewe (maybe) with chicken, couple hand rolled spring rolls and crab Rangoon, place was jumping but I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Found parking easily and people watched while waiting and let me tell you, people are out of their minds in fabulous Ferndale. Pia's Thai in Hazel Park is closed weekends, next best in my opinion. Picture is after it sat in the refrigerator for an hour. I ate a full serving and still have that much left. Go!

Parking thru busy evenings suck, but with the food quality & quick carryout its so worth it.

I only get chicken fried rice from here. It is the best chicken fried rice in downstate Michigan. Their Tom kha Gai and chicken satay is also very good. They might mix up your order, so check when you pick your order up

By far my favorite Thai restaurant. The Pad Thai is the best I've had, no other Thai restaurant in the area compares. The curry puffs and spring rolls are amazing. The food always comes hot even after a 1/2 hour drive home. My only complaint is that its nearly impossible to call in a order.

The food is good…when you can actually get through on their phone to place an order. This is one of the most frustrating restaurants to order from because at least half the time you can’t get through on their one phone line. After trying over and over to call, we usually end up giving up and going across the street to the other Thai restaurant instead. Please fix your phone; you’re literally losing business!

I've been a customer for a few decades. I LOVE the Panang dish!!!
My only concern is the shrimp were a but tough and an unreasonable addition. Marinate them or infuse flavor and I'd happily rate 5 stars!!

Penny came out and said the cooks were gone for today and they only have one phone line so they can’t answer all the calls. As a business if you know this is an issue with people getting thru and trying to spend their money with your business why wouldn’t you improve your phone system it’s 2022. They was so rude Penny walked off and locked the door on me cause I advise I was going to do a review on this business. If you close at 9 and a customer walks in a 8:35 more order should be taken. Restrictions is usually with call in orders. The service was unacceptable and very Rude.
