2022 update: open for counter service.
First time trying recommend by a family member. You order and either sit down they bring the food to your table. or you can take out. Ordered chicken and beef pud Thai, chicken fried rice, spicy crab wontons, hot and sour soup w/ side of spring rolls. Everything was hot and fresh. Best fried rice I've ever had. Pad Thai and would definitely order again good flavor very generous portions.
The dine-in experience that I had was amazing through the food. You order up front, choose your table and when your food is ready they bring it out to you bagged up in to-go containers. I had the crispy duck in brown sauce with veggies and white rice. It was, phenomenal and I WILL be back!!
I really wanted to like the meal that I had at Bangkok 96. Having traveled to Thailand and Laos many times, I found their menu had items I had previously eaten overseas. My favorite dish, ban kaprao mu, is extremely hard to find here in Michigan. When I saw that Bangkok 96 offered a dish with a similar name and Thai basil, I couldn't resist. However, what I received was just not very good. The menu item states there is green pepper in the dish, and honestly that was spot on. There could have been two or three sliced peppers and very little pork. There was no Thai basil anywhere in the dish that I could recognize. The sauce was bland. There were no Thai chilies, the very backbone of Thai cooking in the dish. No garlic, no onion, I couldn't taste ginger at all. Literally I think I had a pork green pepper soup. I don't think I'll be going back. I really wanted to like this place, but I cannot recommend it for traditional Thai food.
Melanie assisted me ☺️. She told me to order from their website direct in order to save money, which was a big help. Additionally, she provided a Thai iced tea, which was absolutely delicious! The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. The best Thai food that I’ve had!
First time here.
I got the N2 and my husband got the N1.
N2 was pretty good and I liked it. N1 was a bit more towards the sweet taste and I’m not a fan of it but that’s just my preference.
The hot and sour soup was meh, I could feel the vinegar but there was something else in it that was kind of strong.
The fresh rolls with chicken was good but I wish there was a better sauce for it because the sauce that was given was sweet.
Best Thai food EVER!!! Always fresh and hot, vegetables are never frozen along with their meet and Always made to order. Favorite restaurant if all time. Known to be carryout but you can still dine in, just don't expect the high end look.
First of all, be aware that this place has no dine-in service or formal sitting! It is only a take away place where you can seat and eat the to go packages. Second the most basic Thai food which is Pas Thai noodles was quite terrible and the worst I ever had. That was not really Pad Thai noodles but rather Pad Thai soup!!! More than Half the bowl was covered in a weird broth that looked exactly like soup! The taste was also nothing to do with the traditional Pad Thai! Anyway a huge disappointment and not even so cheap for the quality! 4.5 stars is a joke!
You can only get carry out. They do have tables and chairs to sit at if you choose to.
When I get thai cravings, this is the place that satisfies my taste buds. I only get Shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp. It's always perfect portion, fresh, and reasonably price.
My favorite is the Thai fried rice and the spring rolls
Love the Pad Thai. The chicken was really good, the shrimp were a little tough for my liking. Spring rolls were excellent.
Awesome people, best customer service, community oriented food provider!
The food was great. The format has changed in that it seems to be more of a carry out situation now. But you can order and eat in if you like.
Amazing food and staff

Fired rice is 🔥🔥🔥
Tried this place based on reviews. Ordered chicken pad thai and spring rolls. Very disappointed!! Spring rolls were very bland and needed more filling. Ordered mild spice level for pad thai which equated to NO spice. Instead of mild spice flavor, the dish just tasted really salty. The sauce was watery and pooled under the noodles rather than coat them. On the upside, portion was generous with a lot of tender chicken. Will not be back.
Carry out was quick and easy. Tom Yum soup is delicious
Don't eat in take it with you but sooo gooood

Used to be a special trip for us. Now it’s pretty much just take out. We drive over an hour so take out would be cold by the time we got home. So disappointed
Hours of operation say open until 8, but don’t try to call in an order after 7:30 - they turn off their phone.
This place was not what I expected, especially after I read reviews.

Lost it's cozy and quaint atmosphere, supplies stored in dining area, order at the counter, food delivered as carryout, dining room was cold. Shrimp fried rice and vegetable delight were good.
Not like it used to be but soup is still good

Always the freshest and tastiest food. If I am in the area I always stop in. If you like it spicy, they have that too. 😋
Always great. The food is good. I love their tom yummy soup and bangkok96 rice. Stir fry or curry. It's all good 👍
Best Thai food around. Very small dining room, so it's probably best for carry out.
THE BEST HOT AND SOUR SOUP EVER!!!!!
Traveled from Livonia last night to eat at Bangkok 96. Skimpy amount of chicken provided in my Pad Cashew. For what I am paying for a dish, I cannot believe the small amount of scraps of chicken provided in the dishes. I have decided that getting carryout Chinese food instead is a much better value. Will skip this place from now on.
Best Thai food in metro Detroit. The spicy has real flavor! Bangkok 96 is my go-to for carryout.
One of my favorite restaurant's always have to stop by at least once when im in town! 10 🌟! I absolutely love it! Especially the pad thai, tiger tear! Must try!
Cool, clean arcade space. I had a bao bun with chicken and it was amazing. Service was friendly and incredibly fast.
Very good food.
Food was amazing. Ordered the Pad pak (spicy) the portions were big. My husband had “3friends” spicy. We had many leftovers. Cooked perfectly with the right amount of spicy.
Best Thai food in metro Detroit
Stopped in to grab dinner. The service was friendly and had my order ready. Got home, and the Tiger Tear was grilled some that all you tasted was smoke. Luckily the Bangkok 96 fried rice and spring were the meal savers.

Tried Bangkok fried rice, it was great and good quantity
My girlfriend and I do takeout for the full experience
The Pai (Pud) Thai dish was absolutely delicious! We did takeout and it was still super hot when we got back to the hotel. I will go there again. This is a takeout restaurant only.
Honestly, food is very good and tasted authentic.
I ordered to eat in,she bagged it up and never brought my water, it's why I hate to TIP before I have even seen my food! The crab wonton was under cooked and greasy, the main dish was ok but there was enough sauce to make several more dishes.
It's fast casual dining. I ordered veggie curry. It was good, but oily. The building is old, but relatively clean.
I've been eating at Bangkok 96 since mid 90-s. It was my favorite place to have Thai food in continental US. Food, service and atmosphere, they were the best, by far the best!
This place is not the same anymore. No more normal full dine-in service anymore. You can get a carry out and eat out of the container at the table. And food is "so-so" to say the best. They blame Covid for it, but everyone else recovered just fime. Whatever it is, I'm not coming back :(
Awesome food
Covid ruined this place. We used to love coming here. Never the same after the reopened.
Horrible food
Bangkok 96 is a gem when it comes to authentic Thai cuisine. From the moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The staff was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations for first-timers.
I started with their Tom Yum soup, which was perfectly balanced—spicy, tangy, and incredibly flavorful. For the main course, the Pad Thai was phenomenal, with just the right amount of seasoning and a generous portion of fresh ingredients. The Green Curry was another highlight, packed with rich, creamy coconut flavor and tender vegetables.
What sets Bangkok 96 apart is their attention to detail and the freshness of every dish. Whether you like it mild or extra spicy, they cater to your preferences without compromising the authenticity of the flavors. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality.
Overall, Bangkok 96 is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Thai food in a relaxed, inviting setting. I will definitely be coming back to explore more of their menu!
Best Thai food downriver. Hands down.
Great service, great food! My food was freshly prepared, the flavor was excellent!!
Began eating here almost 30 years ago. And make a special effort to do it again. whenever I happen to be in town. Food is that good. And the quantity! Even your teenage boys will leave full.
Absolutely amazing food it is by far my favorite Thai food place downriver, I literally tell everybody that I know to go here to get just the soup because it’s so good. Highly recommend this place.
My first time there, the food was extremely good. Gonna go back and try more.
I gave them my order on a piece of paper- they still mess it up and ruined my event.
Plenty on my orders, prices are very reasonable.
I love this place! The Thai steak is my go to meal. It’s so delicious.
Simply the best!
Points for generous management.
The dishes are far too sweet!
The best Thai food in Michigan. You can't tell me otherwise. Delicious.
This is a very good Thai food restaurant. But since Covid it has changed a bit.
The food is outstanding here the Bangkok 96 fried rice is the best fried rice I've ever had I also tried the duck and it was phenomenal with red curry sauce, Thai steak is excellent, the catfish is very fresh the best I've ever had
I tried their food once. Never again! Food was bland with little to no flavors. Staffs were rushing us.
Great food! Great prices! Great employees! Nothing really wrong, 5 stars for everything.
Just one complaint, I ordered shrimp fried rice, the shrimp was a $1 more, it seems like they skimped out on the shrimp. Wasn’t much in it. Maybe 5 or 6. Not cool. Should have not gotten the shrimp if it was going to be less for more money.
Also there’s no actual egg rolls there. Just some ridiculous spring rolls.
Food is bland. Lacks flavor. The other Thai restaurants in my area were much better.
best thai food
Delicious and authentic!
This place has gone down bad since the mom left. The heat of your food depends on who’s in the kitchen. Sometimes you get no spice when you ask for extra. Keep finding chicken bones in my food…. This was one of the only places I never had a problem. Now it all depends on the mood of the person taking my order and who’s cooking. It makes me sad.
The staff are rude. THEY MESSED UP MY FOOD ON PURPOSE
I have been coming here for more than 15 years with my family and we have so many good things to say about the food and service here! love the ambience and homely feel of the place and also how much the servers care about our experience! I love when the cook comes to us ask how is the food, and even thanks us for coming! The service is excellent. I will always recommend this restaurant!
Green curry had strange bluish green food color.
I usually eat in but this.time I called in for a carry out. Service was good my order was ready at pickup.
Food was very good, quick service, no complaints.
Fantastic thai food. Great service too.
Best Thai food around. Large portions! Absolutely delicious😊
This is hands down my favorite Thai Food restaurant. Been loyal costumer since they opened when I was a kid. Many restaurants didn’t make it thru Covid and this place survived on takeout. Make no mistake because they are that good. Many nights, even weekdays, their phone is so busy you can’t get through because of everyone trying to place orders. You can’t really get “dine-in” service where you get serviced by a waitress but you can eat inside. I would highly recommend pad Thai, fried rice, spring rolls, and Thai ice tea.
Good experience.
A take out place. Worst asian food we’ve had; you cannot call it Asian. Everything tastes disgusting, plus Super salty and unhealthy.
How the mighty have fallen. Avoid at all cost. I've given this place 3 extra chances to impress me the way they used to. Nope. Horrible food. No soul. The magic this place once had is gone. I will never return. The owner, who is an amazing chef left to pursue her carryout spot. Once gone, the discipline died and the food suffered greatly. This used to be my go to. Such a bummer. Don't waste your money. They don't care.
Tasty food at the right price.
Update : 4/23/24 - same standard always ...Don't miss Bangkok 96 Fried Rice!
2019: Excellent Thai food around the area!
Not what it used to be pre COVID. Save your money and go to Panda Express 😂. I took out of town friends there. Literally the worst Thai food any of have ever had and I've been to hundreds.
Ordered Pad Prik and Hot’n Sour Soup..this Wednesday April 3rd.. the Par Prik was missing 2 ingredients (broccoli and carrots) and the soup was missing also missing 2 ingredients…. This is my last time eating from this place… the cashier could have told me upon placing my order but she didn’t… spent $20 for my order
I used to work in this area till Covid and after Covid, I started working from home. Today, my wife and I were passing by this restaurant and stopped by for food. I can tell you things have changed bit including serice and food contents with less vegetables. It was dispointing to go there to eat food. Our Vegetarian Pud Thai was just full of noodles, almost no vegetables. It was not worth spending money. This is second Asian Restaurant in one month we had terrible experiences.
What can I say about Bangkok 96? The food as always was stellar. Their food is by far my favorite Thai food in the Metro Detroit area. The service was great staff was friendly and ready to help they made some good recommendations and the food as I said before came out amazing. The only negative thing I can say about my experience the last time going in is that I miss their old dine in space as I felt that was a nice place to bring a date or a group of friends. However they recently changed their dine-in space to a more dine-in casual kind of thing which isn't a bad thing but I do miss the old dining room.
Overall it's a four out of 5 stars for me Good food good service I just miss there old dining room.
I love item number #26!
One of my favorite spots to stop for food when I'm in Dearborn. Consistently good food.
Food is always really good. Try" F1" is amazing.if u don't like spicy say no spice.perfect meal got some left for next day!love green Onions.
PRICEY!!!!
I’m pretty disappointed at the change you’ve made. I haven’t been here in a while and I was in shock that the ordering is done at the counter now… but that’s not that big of a deal… but the food isn’t even served on plates anymore… everything is served in a takeout container, which unless I’m getting takeout, this makes me feel like we are unwanted and unappreciated for dine-in. The atmosphere in here is really sad now… for the cost,. I expect better and it’s just extremely disappointing.
Chicken pad Thai all day love it
Love this place!!! Always great food 😋 Ps it is carryout (temporarily) however you may dine in without a waitress but they give you everything you need plates napkins plastic ware etc etc
I used to enjoy the food, but we were there Saturday, march 2nd between 3:30-4:30, at Detroit Shipping Company location. We ordered grilled chicken and candied beef, it’s not the same food anymore, it depends most likely who is in the kitchen. The chicken was charred and very salty…the candied beef has no sweet taste to it but salty. I wanted to return it and let them taste a portion, but my husband stopped me, because there’s a bit of a line in front of us waiting for their orders, and we don’t want to be the center of attention. I just want to bring this issue to the owner, that whoever is in the kitchen that afternoon, did not do a great job. FOOD TOO SALTY AND THE RICE IS BROWN, NOT WHITE AND SOFT, LIKE IT USED TO.
I wish the pad thai wasn't so soggy and the chicken wasn't so tiny.
Fire!!!🔥🔥🔥
Always enjoy our carry out from there. Food is always hot plus you get alot of food. Employees are always nice and friendly. Love that it's on my neighborhood.
I always order mild and when prepared properly the food is excellent. Unfortunately, about 1 out of 3 times I order my mild order is inedibly spicy. I always emphasize mild mild mild when I order. I'm finished.
Love this place ! Always great food- seems more of a Togo place now than a sit in restaurant though
This has always been my go-to place for Thai food, but this last time it was terrible. Three of us ordered Pad See Ew and we all found it inedible. Tasted like the sauce was burned or something. My pork had globs of fat attached and balls of gristle. I'll give it another try, in case this was a bad day, but it will be a while.
I ordered the Pad See Ew and my partner ordered the pad Bai gra pow. Two different dishes but literally had the same sauce.
The Pad See Ew lacked balance of flavors. It was so salty, no sugar, no green onions and didn't have the correct rice noodles. The only redeeming part of the dish was that the broccoli wasn't overcooked.
Food pretty good
Pad Thai was okay, spring rolls were practically empty. Bought 4 spring rolls which were $1 ea then expect you to pay an additional $2 for a cup of plum sauce to dip them in? Won't be returning.
Always great! Great service, great food!
Not sure HOW this place has 4.4 stars, must be people who think it’s authentic Thai. Terrible service & CARRY OUT ONLY should be LISTED online. What a waste of a trip. Get better servers because the girl with streaks working the counter SUCKS. She doesn’t even greet.
Service questionable the young woman that took my order was very friendly, Unsure if my food was given to me immediately, after I waited for it to be prepared. I got the impression it sat on the counter for a little bit. I did think my food was fine.
It's a hit and miss. Mostly hit! They put my standards all by themselves a few yrs ago. Sometimes it's as good-smetimes not much. I will say in the last 2yrs, 6 out of 10. What did y'all change??
Tom yum is just a mockery. If people saw this tom yum in Thailand, they would go crazy.
A1 service
The food is delicious here! I especially enjoy the Thai Steak and Curry Fried Rice.
Ordered an N2. At medium heat. One bite to find it was so hot that it was inedible. I enjoy spicy food, but it was absolutely revolting.
This place is self service dinning .
Food was okay.. I think owner is different now because food is not the same taste like before . Cashiers are nice . Clean place.
It is never a miss with this place. One of the best Thai fried rice you’ll ever taste in the Downriver.
Not the same since Geneiva Left!
Great Thai food
They're one of the best Thai places in the area. Generous portions. I always have leftovers to take to lunch the next day. I like their pad Thai and their pad ped with tofu or shrimp. And their satay chicken with peanut sauce.
My meal was def hotter than medium. Maybe their house curry is supposed to be that way. My wife's red coconut curry was better.
Delicious food, and fast service. The servings are huge. You will be taking some home. Three in our party. We ordered from the Stir Fry options. I had #8 PAD CASHEW w/chicken, mild seasoning, loved it! Other 2 had #12 PAD NOR MAI (mild) w/chicken and #18 PAD KANA (medium) w/beef. They loved theirs, too. We all had hot & sour soup that was yummy.
I drove a ways to eat here and was a little disappointed. The food was pretty good but the atmosphere was different than I was expecting. Think carryout with tables inside and you won't be disappointed. The 5 gallon bucket of Clorox wipes sitting on the table near the door made me feel like the covid lockdown was still on in full force. The only thing missing was a mop bucket.
My favorite Thai food.
The best ty food in michigan. The 96 is amazing. Satay chicken soooo good.
Great food!
10/10 Amazingggg food. Forever customer here 🤘
