We're rebranding Rod dee Thai cuisine to " Rod D by Sitti " in Brookline location.
I live very close to this place and have tried (way too) many dishes. It can be busy, and some dishes are better than the others. But it’s a solid place with some really great and fun dishes with a good consistency.
My favorites so far - eggplant tofu stir fry, pad krapow with pork, pad thai Thai style (slightly more expensive but totally worth it!), Indonesian fried rice with fried chicken, and Rod D noodle (tastes a bit like pad see Wu but with thinner noodle). I like the service. It’s also great that the cute dessert place Oasit’s is right next door! (Their Shibuya honey toast and Oreo croffle are yummy.)
(FYI, their Pad kee mao, tom yum, and curry are not my favorites. And the spicy crispy calamari was also just ok..too sweet for my taste). Their menu is huge, so it’s fun to go with friends.
Rod D is a Thai restaurant located right outside of Packard's Corner.
The place is usually bustling and busy, with parking being hard to get to due to limited space. However, the staff are quite friendly and are able to make adaptations in case menu items are out of stock. The food also comes out quite quick.
I've tried the basil fried rice from this restaurant. It was good, though as other reviews point out, it can be a bit too oily. However, the spice isn't too overwhelming and its quite tasty with the beef. I wanted to try the crab rice as well, but they didn't have it.
You can also order dessert from Oasit Sweet here, the neighboring dessert place. It's a nice addition, especially with how limited the seating is at that location.
Overall, Rod D is a nice place to eat at for a casual dinner.
Recommended to this place for lunch. Good to have someone to point the way: we ordered the Pad Kra Pao (Hot Basil Thai style fried ground pork with white rice), the Bar Mee Rad Nar (Crispy yellow noodles with vegetables and Thai style gravy) and Indonesian fried rice with crispy chicken). These were served in huge portions! We topped our orders with Tropical Thai tea and Thai milk tea, and for dessert, a Banana with sweet sticky rice. The Pad Kra Pao was spicy, but refreshing after days of non-Asian food. Definitely recommend the Indonesian fried rice as it was flavourable with just the right amount of spiciness and spices. The crispy noodles was done Thai style and it would one to taste the Hongkong equivalent to make a fair judgement. We would have prefer the mango with sticky rice, but mangoes not in season (according to owner). Overall, the experience was good! Definitely should not miss this if you are in the Boston Cambridge area.
Found this restaurant by mistake but it was the best mistake ever. The food was amazing. Try the crab Rangoon and you will understand why. I was so happy and full I forgot my phone and the wonderful waitress caught me before I got to the car. I definitely will be making this place one of my favorites.
Got recommended by a coworker who used to live in Thailand and she said by far this is the only restaurant that serves most authentic Thai food in Boston/Greater Boston. Glad I went with her words because the food tasted amazing. They have such a big menu of dishes that other Thai places don’t have. Hence it’s authentic, expect the food to be real spicy (even with 1 chili sign).
The service by far is the fastest I’ve seen in a sit down restaurant. We got our food within 10 minutes after ordering and they’re freshly cooked. Highly recommend if in the Brookline area.
OMG 10/10. 🤎I’ve been going to rod d for over a decade. I’ve taken everyone I love (esp my young children) to their various locations over the years like the one in porter square, new rod d up the street in Brookline (which I miss!!) and this rod d. All amazing. I moved out of the state to the south for a year and I thought about rod d’s pad Thai multiple times a week. All of their dishes are fantastic but their pad Thai is killer. Everyone that works there are very friendly, kind and work SO hard. There’s no place like rod d. I moved back into mass this past Sunday and I’m about to go there for lunch because I have been dreaming of this day! And no, it’s not just my crazy pregnancy hormones!! I love Rod D!

Quite good food but portions are too small and service is hostile
Food is great and service is fast. Affordable and portions are big. Definitely worth a visit!
I absolutely love Rod D—plain and simple. It’s easily one of my top three favorite restaurants in the Brookline, Brighton, and Allston area. Rod D never misses.
The Crab Rangoon? Incredible. The Pad See Ew? Bomb. The Pad Thai? Bomb. The Fried Rice? Bomb. I recently tried the Khao Moo Daeng for the first time, and it was just as bomb.
Whenever we have guests in town, we always bring them here. The food is consistently delicious, reliable, and incredibly fast—usually out in about 10 minutes. Since it's a small spot, be sure to plan accordingly. And if you're craving the Crab Rangoon, call ahead to check availability—it’s not always available.
Rod D is a must-visit!

We love Thai food and we stopped in for lunch, having never been here. The food was delivered piping hot and it was extremely flavorful. The menu is expansive. The limited seating was filled/nearly filled and there was a steady stream of people picking up take-out. Overall, a nice surprise.

I was so happy and full I forgot my phone and the wonderful waitress caught me before I got to the car. I definitely will be making this place one of my favorites.
Everytime i get food from here, it’s ALWAYS ALWAYS greasy. I come back just to see maybe the chef just had a bad day idk but all the times are always greasy like it felt like i was eating oil with noodles 😭 attached here was just the side and ALL the paper towel i had to use to DRAIN PAD THAI 😭

Placed and order at 5:41pm. Called back at 5:41pm to change my order. They told me “the orders already been made”. Make of that what you will. Food was mediocre. Will not be ordering again.
The Crispy Chicken on Egg Fried Rice was pretty good. The Thai iced tea was also decent.
The best Thai meal we have ever had! Superb!
Great Pad Kra Pow Moo and Satay Chicken. Owner/Chef came to check with me at the end and was happy that I had enjoyed.
Everything is so delicious.
Front desk was rude and the Pad thai we ordered was under prepared
This place was a gem years ago. No longer. My friend ordered green curry with vegetables and tofu over rice. What arrived was a bland and tasteless mix of raw and under cooked vegetables over mushy over cooked rice. There was no visible curry sauce at all and certainly nothing green. Years ago they served a spectacular green curry here so I know very well what it should look and taste like. My friend complained that it was inedible (have you ever tried raw sliced eggplant?🤐) The waitress coldly refused to make him another dish but offered to bring a small dish of extra green curry to add to his entree. What arrived was an ounce of salty, diluted coconut milk. The whole experience was so awful. We'll never go back.
Mango curry was disgusting - I feel like Thai food is always the same no matter the state or place you try I’m over it forever
White rice here is so cheap like enriched rice it’s sad,
Didn’t feel welcomed either when I walked in. Im black. Place is tiny
You have to get the tropical Thai Iced Tea! It’s light, summery, and has crunchy passionfruit seeds. The papaya salad is the perfect heat. The entrees are GREAT. Anything with the crispy chicken is awesome, and next time I’m definitely trying the beef and beef tendon soup. We split an entree and a salad together because we weren’t too hungry, but next time, definitely getting my own cause it’s so good I don’t wanna share! The waitstaff is so so friendly and sweet, thank you so much! Our new favorite spot!
I ordered delivery from here last night and am still thinking about the food today. It was that good! I ordered shrimp and chicken pad thai, seafood basil fried rice, tropical Thai iced tea, and Thai donuts 🤤 everything was soo good! And the seafood portions were generous. The donuts were so soft and delicious. The tea was very sweet with fruit in it though so if that isn't your jam then don't get it but I LOVED it lol. The pad thai and rice..I'm hooked. Will def order from here again whenever I'm in Brookline 💜 I ate my pad thai too fast and forgot to take a picture lol
Very friendly service and food very delicious HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT:)
The food was fine but the service of aweful. First of all, nowhere was it mentioned that discover and amex cards are not allowed for billing. Luckily, I had a visa card but naturally I did not give any tip. The owner had the audacity to say that next time we should do a take away and not come for dine it. She was insulting the customer and was extremely rude.
Good food, loud n conjusted space.
Excellent Thai spot. As someone who used to live in Thailand, I can say that the food is authentic. When I speak Thai they even offer me the menu written in Thai…but don’t worry, unlike other Thai places that default to a ‘western’ menu with made up dishes and the authentic dishes are only offered to people who speak Thai, Rod D’s menu has all the goodies you’d want. They also don’t hold back on the authentic spice if you want it. The space is small, but they do take-away.
Orders placed online are never ready on time, sometimes they even forget to make the order.
Great food well prepared. I love the crispy spicy chicken and squid.
Top notch Thai food! I dream about their Indonesian fried rice. It's legendary! Gets really busy during dinner service, but worth the wait.
Kao Soi was amazing 😻
Delicious!
Got the scallion pancake and the spicy crispy chicken rice dish and both were delicious. Scallion pancake had a perfect balance between crispiness and chewiness and was also flavorful.
The spicy crispy chicken was also actually spicy and I would equate it to a medium spice level. Although it probably wouldn’t be enough for someone who likes really spicy stuff, it was perfect for my needs. Chicken was also not overbattered and there was a large ratio of protein to batter, so you actually get your moneys worth.
All in all, Rod Dee is a Brookline classic and I highly recommend it!
Had it yesterday. Got a veggies and tofu and a chicken pad thai. Worst one I ever had. Terrible service and terrible food
Ordered from Uber eats and food came in reasonable time and pretty warm, so delivery experience was solid. Too bad the food is subpar. Pad Thai is extremely sweet. The crispy dark meat chicken is alright, nothing to call home about. Pad kee mao is ok, pretty run of the mill, but green beans and some broccolini? were tough and chicken had a woody texture (though that’s likely a chicken supply problem, not them)
Probably wouldn’t order from here again.
The portions of pad ew and some shrimp and rice dish were small and too sweet. The chicken satay was dry as dust and hard to chew. The shrimp was juicy. The carafe of tap water was lukewarm. The food came out almost as soon as we ordered it, but the waitress never came back to ask us of we wanted anything else or if everything was to our satisfaction. I was expecting a great experience because of the reviews I read, but my friends and I thought it was mediocre. We will probably not return.
Amazing vegan food.. particularly drunken noodles and basil fried rice
I've been enjoying food here for a loooong time...pan fried rice noodle with duck has been and still is my go to...every bit as good yesterday as it was when I first tried it very long ago. Kudos to the restaurant for taking my walk-in takeout order and preparing it promptly despite the dine-in crowd and busy takeout activity.
The best nasi goreng there is in the country. Quickly made, extremely flavorful, no complaints.
Hands down one of the best Thai restaurant in Boston.
Perfect for takeout.
Clean.
Very good! They brought the spice! Only wish they gave some sauce with my crab Rangoon (I think they must’ve forgotten the sweet and sour sauce) and the sauce with my fresh spring rolls wasn’t my favorite. Pick up was quick and containers were full :)
My go-to Thai restaurant in Boston. Nearby street parking and good food. Decent pad thai, good pad see ew, and excellent Thai curries. Pricing is a bit higher than it used to be, but that's the "post"-pandemic world we live in.
Food was terrible, undercooked and tasteless. Over the terrible food, for group of 5 people - they tacked on gratuity of 18% without our approval - they were not ready to discuss about gratuity
Some of the best Thai food in Boston. Some older reviews say they only take cash but this is not the case anymore. They definitely take credit/debit. Favorite is the Tom Yum fried rice. Thai donuts are also really good and taste similar to beignets from New Orleans.
Bad service and very mediocre food. The duck dish used the lowest quality duck meat, generic sauce and mostly rice.
No customer service rude when asked a question
The boat noodles were mediocre and to me customer service is top priority, and they did not fulfill my expectations on their end. No greetings and they were rude when asked a question. Four ladies sat around when we were ready to order. They did not pay attention to us even though we were the only customers there eating in.Mind you I came in with my family to try this boat noodles for a good experience.
Sooo good. They make the food quickly and it's delicious every time. Especially the pad see ew/pad see you!
Got recommended by a coworker who used to live in Thailand and she said by far this is the only restaurant that serves most authentic Thai food in Boston/Greater Boston. Glad I went with her words because the food tasted amazing. They have such a big menu of dishes that other Thai places don’t have. Very good food and good service. Mango sticky rice was amazing
I had the Pad Thai and Green Papaya Salad. Delicious. Authentic flavours. I will return.
Staff very friendly and fast. Food is always soo delicious.
Loved the place! It is always crowded - even on weekdays. It is perfect to enjoy a hearty dinner after a long day. The food is really good. I had the Pad Thai and the Tropical Thai tea - they were awesome. The waiters are very friendly, but the service was a little bit slow. Will definitely be back!
I love this place.
I was so excited to try their food after having heard some raving reviews but was extremely disappointed.
We got the shrimp Shumai, drunken chicken, crab and Indonesian fried rice.
The shumai was mostly wrapper and definitely not fresh.
The drunken chicken was reheated from frozen because the texture of the chicken was completely off.
Both the fried rice had massively overcooked rice and zero flavor. The crispy chicken and the chicken bits in the rice were both overcooked and rubbery. I was so disappointed I almost cried.
The best thing was the mango smoothie, 5/5 for that.
Edit: My husband got serious stomach upset after last night
Our go to place for thai food. Fun, bright and upbeat atmosphere. We like to get spicy dishes so we always ask to kick it up a notch or two. They make it spicy.
Also like they have diet soda options (rather than just diet coke/pepsi).
Ask before you order if you dont want sugar or sweetness in the dish. Some dishes have sweetness but wont say in the description.
Maybe the take out is bad, but our dishes were very bland.
Delicious food, arrives v quickly and was very special.
Not bad but not great. B- flavor.
Still on the hunt to try and find Thai food similar to what I would get in Queens, NYC.
I used to love this Thai restaurant, but it has gone downhill fast. Food is average, but the service has become incredibly slow, and the staff seems disinterested in customers. They even would not serve me last time, because my order was less than $10. My last visit was a disaster - the food arrived cold, and they got my order wrong. I won't be coming back. Avoid this place at all costs!
The Pad Thai was quite good. They even made it without fish sauce.
My party of 5 came in 10 minutes before the kitchen closed, and the staff was very nice in explaining that they had a hard stop in 40 minutes. They didn't rush us to make our order, and all the food came out super fast. It was easy to get the staffed attention, even though they were pretty packed, and in the middle of cleaning/closing up. After, it was easy to get our check and pay, as well as to get plenty of to-go containers for all of our food and drink. Staff and service get a 5/5.
I tried the Boat Noodle Soup, Massaman Curry on rice, and Soft Shell Crab on rice, as well as both the Thai iced tea and the tropical Thai iced tea. My favorite was the Boat Noodle soup, with the Soft Shell Crab coming in a *very* close second. The drinks were refreshing and didn't taste watered down. The food gets a 6/5 for speed, flavor, and portion size.
The restaurant itself is cozy, has an extremely adorable logo, and is very clean for a shop that has such quick service/turnover. The restroom was really clean, which is always nice. Nobody wants to wash their hands before a meal in a gross bathroom. Even with disposable chopsticks, the ambiance gets a 5/5. It's comfortable to sit with a party of 1, 2 or 6.
Overall my entire party really enjoyed our dinner. They could have easily been curt, rushed us in and out, or even turned us away. The food was fantastic and the prices were very reasonable for the large portion sizes. I'm looking forward to going back.
I got chicken pad see you and fried chive dumplings and both were very good!
Muito bom a comida
Great value with the classic taste of your favorite Thai dishes. The restaurant has an upbeat vibe so it makes a great place to hang out and chat over a satisfying meal. I ordered the Indonesian fried rice with crispy chicken and it came with a very generous portion of chicken and a perfectly fried egg that still had a gooey yolk. The quality also doesn’t diminish when you order for delivery so that another big plus.
The Khao Soi here was the best I’ve had in Boston. Rich creamy spicy curry, with fried tofu, chewy rice noodles, and topped with crispy noodles - so good! They were able to make it vegetarian on request. Portion sizes are massive, especially for just $12.
Thai iced coffee was creamy and sweet, perfect for a hot day. My friend ordered the green curry served over rice, which was pretty good but not soupy enough, perhaps because the sauce had been absorbed into the rice.
Great food at reasonable prices - will definitely be back.
Amazing, genuine food served in a laid-back setting. One of my favorite restaurants in Boston is their Fenway sibling. At dinner, I had the pad Thai with spicy shrimp oil, and it was out of this world. Their crispy chicken is so good that even their Indonesian fried rice is worth tasting. As an appetizer, we highly like their curry puffs and scallion pancakes, and their vegetable green curry is also excellent. Best Thai food in the Boston area!
Excellent selection with lots of vegan options. Everything was delicious! Great value.
Third time the magic? Not really. I live near by and after two bad experiences decided to give it another chance. The good is among the worse i had in any restaurant. Dull and dry. Not even the Americanised Thai food you get in other bad Thai restaurants. A real disappointment. Reading other reviews of this place is shocking. Have people lost all sense of taste? Or maybe they confuse this place with another (some say the place only accepts cash which is untrue). The servers are nice but avoid their food recommendations. A place to avoid.
Excellent Thai food in Brookline on Beacon Street. Parking is generally easy because there are tons of metered parking spaces on both of sides of the street. There is also a green line stop directly outside the front door. The food is excellent. Pictured in this review is Pad See Ew and Kao Moo Dang. Both dishes were prepared to perfection. I recommend this place if you're in the Brookline area looking for Thai food.
I have always enjoyed the food here and my go to favorite is Basil Thai Fried Rice, Egg fried rice with crispy chicken and don’t miss out to try their dessert options: Mango sticky rice and sticky rice with banana.
I love Rod D it's the best takeout around
My fav restaurant in Boston area. Good spot for group lunch/dinner. Great selection of different cuisine of Thai. Had some of my best dinner in here.
Bit noisy room, food and service was great.
Food really outclasses the humble takeout appearance, very impressed
An amazing option in brookline, with impeccable preparation and fast simple service
Lime crispy chicken and Larb are amazing and out go to staples, but a very rich menu with plenty of options.
Best Thai food I've ever had. I'm going back immediately to order me another pad Thai to accommodate me when I'm watching The Beach (2000) filmed in Thailand. ✌ mmm Paradise in the living room.
Best Thai food I’ve had in the US. Good service, diverse menu options, and overall a very nice experience. Will come back whenever I’m in town.
I have been going here for YEARS. Hands down the most amazing family run restaurant. Thank you for being a big part of my life and my children.
Highly recommend them over the finest restaurants in Boston.
Oh my goodness. I’m not sure what took me so long to finally try Rod D. So many of my friends have been raving about this place for years. At a mere 5 minutes from my neighborhood of 10+ years, I feel the need to make up for all of the lost time. What was I thinking?! My experience was a o good that I will probably order a second time later this week! We had the crispy pad thai, massaman curry with beef, fried tofu triangles, crispy spring rolls and mango sticky rice. Everything was perfectly prepared and so delicious. (I’m still dreaming about this meal!) The staff member who handed me my takeout order was friendly and kind. I actually can’t wait to dine in here sometime! The restaurant itself has such a nice vibe to it. It was super clean with cozy and cute decorating. Love the window art! This place is a total gem and I can’t believe I’m only just trying it for the first time after all these years. This will be my go-to Thai spot from now on! Thank you Rod D!!!
Love it
Got the Thai tea along with a crispy chicken fried rice. The chicken was very tender and the rice was flavorful. Loved the sweet chili sauce they gave on the side.
Best Thai I've had in the city! Went recently with some friends and everyone loved what they got, everything on the menu is excellent. The tropical Thai iced tea was super sweet and fruity, the extra crispy chicken on the Indonesian fried rice I got was perfectly crunchy and savory and the scallion pancakes were phenomenal. Oh and don't forget the Mango coconut sticky rice, you won't be disappointed!
The Kao Soi is excellent.
I really did not expect it to be quite as good as it was. Maybe some of the best Thai food I've ever had.
The merit of tipping in the United States has been abused by businesses like Rod D. You cannot call this a restaurant when they force you to take orders from the table and offer no other service beyond that.
We ordered 2 dishes and waited a long time for our food. The server came by once to deliver our dishes but never came back again to check on us. After all that, she forced an 18% tip on top of our bill because we ate inside.
The restaurant used to be great, but I believe the second generation of the owner took over and all of a sudden, they started to abuse the tipping custom, while unwilling to offer any service.
The taste of the food is also worsened over the years. I would recommend trying the other Thai places nearby.
Review on takeaway
- Indonesian fried rice is so good. Crispy chicken, rice, egg, no complain at all
- Hot and sour soup has good flavor but unfortunately there’s only two shrimp in the whole soup
Delivery super fast, also a plus
This place is going to be future go-to :)
In person
- Panang curry with rice: the curry taste not bad, but the vegetables are a little undercooked. Maybe they try to make it crispy but I’m unfortunately not a fan.
The food was average and nothing special. I wouldn’t think about writing smth down if the complimentary tip didn’t come up. There were three of us trying to tip 12% instead of 15% and there are options in the receipt said that it is customizable. But the lady at the counter reminded me that we had to pay at 15% non negotiable lol. Good Boston.
Lovely, quiet at a small setting with Great food and friendly staff.
I did not start coming here for a while but the convenient location drew me in. I tried it last summer for the first time and was not disappointed at all. My 2 favs are the pad-se-ew (with any choice of meat) and the tropical thai iced tea!!!
The best Thai food outside Thailand
Best Thai restaurant on the planet!! I moved to other city. Whenever I am back in Boston/Brookline, I stop by Rod D for a quick meal or take home some goodies such as Som Tom, Yum Wun Sen, and my favorite Tom Yum noodle soup. Always affordable, quick, and delicious!! Now, my son also loves this place (like father, like son!!). If you really like Thai food, try Som Tom (Thai Spicy level). Don't forget to order a Thai Iced Tea as well. Enjoy!!!
The food here is always delicious. Service is great and fast. Menu is extensive but every dish I've tried was flavorful. I've had their Indonesian fried rice with crispy chicken for many years and the quality stays solid. The tom yum noodle soup is another favorite. The broth has a nice balance of sweet, spicy and sour.
Rod D is on the top 5 best Thai food in Boston and I totally agree. It is my top choice. Even though I've moved away, I always come back here whenever I'm in town. This is the only location remaining.
Casual atmosphere and incredible, authentic food. Their sister restaurant in Fenway is also one of my favorites. They had a spicy shrimp oil pad Thai when I went for dinner and it was unreal. The Indonesian fried rice with crispy chicken is also amazing - truly anything with their crispy chicken is worth trying. Their vegetable green curry is also the best, and we’ve tried the curry puffs and scallion pancakes as appetizers and they never disappoint. Favorite Thai restaurant in Boston!
One of the best Asians of the neighborhood
They never put any utensils unless you ask. 100% of restaurants that I know of never need customers to ask for utensils. When you have a bag of food but no utensils plus the representative is unapologetic, you will also decide never come back to this restaurant.
