Vibrant and inviting! A Boston gem that showcases bold, authentic flavours and delectable bites. Buzzing dining room and wonderful staff ensured a delicious and memorable visit. Definitely worth revisiting!

Diner Review №2

We arrived and were initially comfortable with seating at the bar. However, they informed us that we would have to wait for 45 minutes. We decided to order Togo during this time. Just as we were about to place our order, an available seat became available at the bar. I asked if it would be okay for us to take that seat, but they informed us that someone else was already waiting. Despite being there for 20 minutes without anyone taking the seats we were offered, they still refused to let us sit.

Diner Review №3

The food serving are very small. Their menu on google is not updated. The staff was friendly but not accomadating. The room is very dark, if your into blind eating this is your place. We came here because of the high ratings but we were disappointed. They also would not make the pad thai with out fish sauce so I had to pads on that and choose something else from the limited menu

Diner Review №4

Mahaniyom is truly outstanding—one of the best Thai restaurants on the East Coast! As a Thai person, I’m always craving authentic and well-crafted Thai food, and this place is the answer.

The flavors were bold, balanced, and absolutely fantastic. We ordered the Crab Curry, Kai Tod Had Tai, Pomelo Salad, and a couple of server-recommended dishes—all were incredible! The cocktails were also thoughtfully crafted and paired perfectly with our meal.

If you're looking for a real taste of Thailand with top-notch execution, this is the place to be. Highly recommend, and I can’t wait to come back!

My husband found this place for a birthday dinner because it was rated very highly across several sources. The vibe is very hipster. The bathroom was very funky with black light that made the bold paint iridescent. The food was great but not exceptional given the high ratings which drew us in. The cocktails were fun and spirited, especially the shooters that our wait staff was sweet to bring over on the house when she overheard that it was my birthday. This was after we had paid so she was simply being kind. Very thoughtful touch. She remembered that I liked sour and had the shooters made that way. She was constantly filling our water and promptly cleared our dishes. It was one of the best table service we have had in a while. Hands down the highlight was the service. Overall great food but very pricey for Thai so you're really paying for the vibe, service and experience.

If you want to see the food you are eating, bring a headlamp. Same if you like to read menus.

Diner Review №13

Charming place.
Thai tapas bar, focusing on alcohol and drinks.
We had very little vegetarian choice, yet what we choose: Pad Thai and a Mushroom dish- were delicious.
Service was great.
The amazing thing is how fast the food is reaching the table. We just ordered- and it was in front of us.

Diner Review №14

Really delicious. Would recommend all of the dishes we tried.

Green papaya pad Thai
Brussels
Crab curry
Beef massaman
Pomelo salad
Beef panang

Diner Review №15

Absolutely delicious, fast service, great ambience (don’t miss the cool bathroom with glow in the dark murals!). Highly recommended!

Diner Review №16

Best food, best cocktail, best service , best. Place to go in Boston! No doubt

Diner Review №17

I hope you like baby corn! And salt. There is a lot of it.

Diner Review №18

We were excited to try this place but disappointed in the food. Everything was extremely salty, and most of the dishes we ordered were swimming or coated in a soy sauce base, with few other flavors than soy/salt. Left feeling bloated and awful. We didn’t even take our food to go.

Note: terrible selection for healthy or vegetarian. Don’t bother if you are veg or vegan- they do not modify anything on the menu.

Prices on food were reasonable for a trendy place. Prices on cocktails were insane, but they were good. Host was a bit nasty, but servers were good.

Overall, this place falls into the typical Boston pattern of being trendy and hyped and packed with millennials Gen Z as a newer place to get your salty comfort food and cocktails. It really doesn’t live up to the hype in quality though.

We visited this popular spot at the request of our daughter for my birthday - "tapas to share, some fun drinks, it's a cool place." It was every bit of that and more.

The decor seemed simple, but very nice. Very detailed. They used their space exceptionally well. The attentiveness of our server was absolutely spot on - she appeared whenever we had a question or we needed anything!

The tapas were really flavorful and interesting. Parking was easy, on the street. We'll return for sure!

Food: the Thai tea was delicious, served very fresh and creamy, but I wish they didn’t serve it with so much ice. It’s all tapas style so a lot of their dishes come in smaller portions that are meant to be shared. We got the pad Thai and pork belly which both were seasoned perfectly. It was a little bit dry but combining it with the seafood sauce, really helps the moisture to come back. Their oysters with the sauce combine was exquisite and by far my favorite. It had a sweet, salty tangy crunch that is different from American style oysters

Service: everything came out rather quick and our server make sure that we had everything during our meal.

Ambiance: it’s actually tiny inside with maybe at most 25 seats hence why the reservations are always booked. I highly recommend trying it and even sitting at the bar if it does end up being booked. Anything more than a party of six can be a bit tight. However, the dark ambience and jazz music really comes along, making the scene more intimate.

Location accommodation: there are curtains inside the door so just passed through it once you enter. There is a few side parking but it’s pretty limited

Diner Review №28

A great spot for drinks! Haven’t tried the food yet

Diner Review №29

Amazing food at an outstanding price! Get the beef panang, the tofu song, and the chicken ka-praw! Drinks are great too.

Diner Review №30

Pretty quick service if you come early. Has a calm vibe, with a bar and disco lights. Our reservation worked and we got seated immediately. Make sure to check the specials! Green papaya pad Thai was spicy, but wasn’t labeled as spicy on the menu. Rest of the food we tried was good, including Pad Thai and a few pork items. Shrimp was great! Location is central Brookline Village with the T stop nearby. Overall, a great restaurant for a fancy night!

Diner Review №36

All the dishes and beverages I’ve tried have been excellent. Skip the big crowds and hit them up for lunch! Takeout also great.

Diner Review №37

The worst experience and extremely bad service ever. The service misunderstood the number of the guests, without trying to solve the problem, she tried her best to blame the guests, and said “you should not book the table online, you should call 🙄. You three can try to squeeze in the two seats or one guest can leave ” The worst service ever, she even showed extremely insolent attitude. I will never recommend this restaurant and won’t go there any more!

Diner Review №38

Such a good vibe for dating! The food is a good size for two and tastes great!

Diner Review №39

Fusion Thai served tapas style , very pricey for small portions served. Loud music was rather bothersome at lunch time. Place is small and dark.
Crab fried rice $19 was good but little salty
Pad Thai $15 disappointing. Flavorful but noodle was overcooked and mushy.
Beef panang $17 beef came almost raw and Thai eggplant was so hard , almost the texture of raw nuts. Not sure if that's normal, but couldn't eat them at all. Curry flavor was very delicious though.
Service was great, while we did not try any drinks, the place seemed better fitting for drinks and shared apps than going for quiet meal.

Diner Review №40

Update:
This used to be our goto place but the quality has just deteriorated over the years. The options are limited, the food now lacks flavor, the portions have been hit by shrinkflation. The chicken was gamey (if that’s your thing) and tofu bland. The service is average at best and it’s still lacks sitting place. Sigh! All good things come to an end.

Original:

Decent food, I wouldn’t call it gourmet but definitely good. There a lot of flavor in the food, lacking texture.

The Pad Paa was average, it’s dry and the vegetable mix didn’t exactly gel together. Very peppery if you’re into that.

Diner Review №42

Food was good, interesting dishes. Our favorite was the crab, shrimp pork wrapped in lightly fried tofu (forgot the name of dish). So good! I ordered the shrimp pad Thai, was very good, but missing a bit more of that familiar tang, almost like soy sauce was used. Service was a bit slow

Worst service, ok food, extremely loud.

Diner Review №54

Their pad Thai is a dark brown color. They clearly made it with soy sauce. This is almost inedible by how salty yet flavorless the dish is.

Diner Review №62

Very good Thai food. Everything we ordered was tasty. The cocktails were also great ! No wonder it’s always crowded. Reservation recommended.

Diner Review №63

Only tried the pad Thai, didn't appreciate that half of the to-go tray was filled with bean sprouts, or an entire green onion just plopped on top. $15 rather pricey for this, and it was very oily, not enough peanuts, no lime. Seasoning on chicken was good. Service seemed rather brusque.

Diner Review №64

Mahaniyom offered one of the best meals I’ve had all year. While pricey, the flavors of the tapas style dishes were out of this world. The cocktails were also super creative and tasty. Staff were cheerful and helpful. Can’t wait to come back.

Diner Review №65

One of the best Thai restaurants in Boston . Came here for lunch and it’s packed with people . Every dish was amazing and packed with flavors . We were impressed how authentic the food was here . We left happy and the staffs was amazing also .

Diner Review №66

Fabulous authentic Thai! Every dish is beyond amazing but the crab curry is absolutely one of our favorites! Cocktails are delicious and crafted with unique ingredients. Super fun, laid back vibe. The staff is amazing, our favorite is Kam! She made us feel so welcomed, we can't wait to go back!

Diner Review №67

It was my first time trying out the food and the drinks here…
To keep it super short, you won’t regret it. Whether if it’s for the food only or just for drinks or BOTH! My group were served in a timely manner and very easy to order. Their staff was very accommodating since a lot of the things on the menu are different from other restaurants. It’s definitely a hole in the wall and a place that you have to try!!! Heads up, be sure to reserve in advance because they get packed out!!!
Thank you for being in Boston!

When lady Gaga said “ma ma ma ma” she surely wanted to say ma ha (ni yom) because. This. Place. Deserves. A. Song. I am a local guide I have a frantic following and I know what’s good and what’s bad. This place is special not only because of the food. The food is great but honestly it’s a little expensive for what you’re getting. I’m not saying we need to eat more and more food but it’s still pretty expensive. What I really love about this place are the drinks fantastic and the whole interior design. To put it simply put: it’s just cool. The service is also great, especially Timmy was really nice

Diner Review №72

The food is as good as it gets. Small tapas style plates. If this place was in Manhattan I could see each plate costing double the price. Most food is going to be on the spicy side. But it's full of mixtures of flavors coming together in a taste bud explosion. On top of the menu the have a bunch of amazing specials too. No point reviewing each dish I had because it's all good. You can't go wrong with anything. Try this place now!

Do yourself and try the tapioca dessert as well. It's very intense but so good

Diner Review №73

Just dropped by for an appetizer so far. We had the flying squid. It was wonderful. Cooked to perfection and attractively served with an excellent dipping sauce that incorporated a superb balance of heat and flavor. Also included fresh sprigs of cilantro. I've had the pleasure of sampling Thai cuisine and calamari of various cultures around greater Boson for some 50-60 years. This was some of the best.

Diner Review №78

Food was fantastic. Service was horrible. One poor waitress taking all orders for everyone. food took almost 40 min to arrive. We had to flag her down to get water and to order drinks. Ruined the whole experience.

Diner Review №79

Holy wow! From the moment we walked in we were impressed. The place is cozy and smells of fragrant jasmine rice from the kitchen and fresh mint from the bouquets at the bar for cocktail garnishes. The service from Andrew, the bartender, was incredible. My husband and I really enjoyed the cocktails, they were so artisanal and brilliantly balanced. We also tried three of the dishes and were absolutely blown away. Portions were so generous for a tapa place, we didn’t need the third dish but the flavors were incredible I’m glad we tried everything, though the Beef Panang stole the show: the curry was perfectly spiced and flavorful, the eggplant was so tender but not mushy and the beef… wow. Perfectly medium rare and very high quality. Absolutely blown away with the lovely experience we had here!!

Diner Review №80

I was able to visit this place after wanting to try it for a long, long time. The reason it has been hard to come here is because the previous times we have called and asked about their usage of fish sauce and oyster sauce in their curries they have said they are unable to do replacements on that. My partner is vegetarian and because of that almost half the menu is off-limits. I don't know if their rules have changed, so if you are a vegetarian that cares about that I would still check.

I am not a vegetarian and so I was fine and came here with an also non veg eater.

We got the ananas aloma and the daeng bailey drinks - just absolutely fantastic, could not recommend more if you like mezcal. I thought the ananas aloma had more flavor, texture, and interest to it.

We then got the beef massam which was quite easily the best thing we ate all night. Could not recommend it enough, really well made and delicious. The roti was soft and buttery.

The crispy chicken skins were honestly a huge dissapointment. There was no flavoring to them at all. Would not recomment it.

Then we got the chicken ka praw and the crab curry. Both of these dishes were solid and really well made. I think the chicken ka praw was probably better as the crab curry did not have a strong crabby taste, which is honestly the reason we got it upon recommendation by the staff. The noodles that came with the crab curry were also stuck together/congealed so it was a little weird.

Overall a great thai dinner, probably one of the better options in/around Boston. I would once again point out, if you are vegetarian and care about fish sauce/oyster sauce in your food, please check before going there, because a lot of the menu (all the curries) would be off limits for you.

There are a couple vegan options, I can't speak to their tastiness.

Diner Review №81

I got a takeout pad Thai from Mahaniyom the night I moved to Boston from New York. I had nothing in my fridge, got in around 9 PM and there was nothing else that looked good open. I did a takeout order, and was blown away by the taste of the pad Thai. I have subsequently went and visited the restaurant and the vibe is excellent. The staff are always so friendly. I think it is hard to get a reservation for dine in, but take out as seamless and easy. Would definitely recommend checking this out if you are around the Brookline area.

Diner Review №82

Went in for lunch, staff was friendly and dishes came out quickly. Awesome selection of cocktails, Yo(ume) be right was great. Can’t wait to go back.

Diner Review №83

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Mahaniyom recently. I was told they would take my number and contact me when a table was available. At 8:40 PM, I received a text saying the wait would be 45 minutes. Expecting to be seated by 9:30 PM at the latest, I went to another nearby restaurant for light bites to pass the time. However, by 9:30 PM, I still hadn't received any further communication.

When I returned to Mahaniyom to inquire about my table, I found many tables available, yet the server informed me that the kitchen had closed and they had no room for us. This was incredibly frustrating as I had skipped a proper dinner in anticipation of dining here.

Not only was this a major inconvenience, but it also left me hungry and without any alternative dining options for the night. The least they could have done was inform me earlier if they couldn't accommodate us. This experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I won't be returning anytime soon.

Diner Review №84

Best Thai tapas in town!

I love the sauces they use on the oysters! Very rich and appetizing. Also the razor clams special is a must try! Service is also excellent! Will come back.

Diner Review №85

Wow! What a gem. The food is exceptional. If I could I would give it 6 stars!

We had Brussel sprouts with garlic, spicy eggplant dip with crudités, and tofu pad Thai, All good but the best was Pad Thai. Made with green papaya, it wasn’t heavy, had great flavor and a decent portion to share.
For dessert they served some fruit flavor chestnut with coconut, mango in a coconut milk sauce. It was good and not too sweet.
Overall a great experience.

Diner Review №98

Afro Mexicano here ... Minority approved if you like good authentic Thai ✅

Initially was going to give a 4 out of 5 review just because the waiter was very brisk and wasn't trying to work with me for reservations. Continuously had to explain that I was willing to wait the one hour but only needed a table for one person as I wanted to dine alone . After too much back and forth with fuss - was eventually accommodated, came back and absolutely enjoyed my meal would 100 out of 10 recommend.

Had the beef panang curry 20/10 🔥, chive cakes 8.1/10 (similar to corn fritters with the sweet sauce they serve) and the purple drink 6.8/10 (too heavy on titos for me personally)

Later that night same waiter was a lot more agreeable a lot more polite and probably just less stress due to the fact that this was a Friday night that was heavily busy with multiple reservations and clients to serve!!!

Diner Review №100

Great spot with really creative dishes! Super efficient and attentive service as well. We had the: spicy eggplant dip, fried chive cakes, pork in cubanelle peppers (kinda like a Thai cabbage roll), crab curry, wok fried morning glory, and penang curry. That was definitely enough food for three hungry people!

Diner Review №101

Excellent food and great ambiance. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The 3 pepper pork cheek was SO good. I would love to come back and try more.

I loved the crab curry. Will visit this place often now, since it touched my heart. Started liking Thai cuisine :)

Diner Review №108

Really great food and vibes! Book ahead because it can get full. Favorite dish was the beef panang, and drink, the rambutini.

Diner Review №109

It’s a small space with massive flavor. The cocktail menu is creative and combines liquors from all over the world. It’s tough to get a reservation but well worth it for unique flavors and drinks!

Diner Review №110

Wife and I had some tests to do at the nearby hospital and decided to get some food and beat traffic. What a gem. Food was fantastic, drinks were stellar. I also want to shout out Andrew who was slinging drinks and great vibes. He helped us with menu items and amazing drink recommendations. I haven’t had this great of Thai food since living in Los Angeles. Great spot, I’ll recommend it to friends, and will most certainly be back. Thanks Andrew and the entire squad!

Diner Review №111

Book a reservation in advance. I went on a Friday evening and still had a little wait, but nothing too crazy. People walking in with parties of 2 had a 90+ minute wait and there's good reason why.

Food is incredible. I don't know if this is a modern take on Thai cuisine or if it's authentic but every dish we had was delectable.

Pork belly - Meat was tender but the fat was so crispy, best of both worlds. Savory and delicious.
Crab curry - Comes with cabbage, bean sprouts, vermicelli, and mint leaves. Throw it all into the curry and mix it up and you'll understand why. Lumps of crab meat throughout the curry mixes so well with the vermicelli.
Chicken skin - Just barring the line of too crispy (but not) it is the perfect level of crisp/crunchy and they provide plenty per dish!
Fried chicken - Absolutely delicious. The dish comes with some bone-in pieces and some boneless. Crispy chicken skin and dip it into the chili sauce and it is so good.

Street parking so it can be a bit tough and it is tight in there but boy is this place worth it!

Diner Review №112

VERY good Thai food

Diner Review №113

We went once and can't wait to go again- it's a 40 min drive for us... Craft food and craft cocktails. Seemed a little tricky getting a table last time, I guess we aren't the only ones wanting to get in :-)

Diner Review №114

It’s overhyped. The food is just okay. By Boston standards is good. Parking can be tough so beware

Diner Review №115

Amazing food, try the pork belly!!!

Diner Review №116

Apr 2024:
Hospitality was impeccable. The crab fried rice was tasty and had a nice addition of crunch veggie. I enjoyed the crab soup although the portion sizes are smaller than expected based on the price point. The rice portion is smaller than the dish with the veggie plate. The atmosphere is dark and ambience is loud. Prepare to wait for a table even with a a reservation.

Diner Review №117

Mahaniyom soars above the generic thai restaurants found on every street corner. The bold flavors of dishes (like Plaa Hed-- mushroom herb salad; Yum Sum-O--pomelo salad; Pad Paa--housemade jungle curry) make no apologies to timid western palates, so brace yourself for some full throttle heat, or be sure to order dishes to extinguish the flames like the sweet green papaya pad thai and even sweeter Tuptim Krob (dessert) which will sooth your overheated tongue with water chestnuts bathed in coconut milk. Equally as strong as what's on the plate are the libations available to your glass. If the exotic cocktails don't seduce, you could try the thai traditional herbal infused rum served with pickled mango and pandan water, a surefire reprieve from the firey flavors.

But don't be intimidated by the spice--there's plenty to choose from that's gentle on the tongue. My only gripe is the dim lighting which makes menus hard to read and dishes difficult to photograph (as you can see here).

Diner Review №118

Terrible service. Food portions were small even for a tapas place. This place is highly overrated. I honestly feel like I was bothering them when I had questions about the menu and was trying to order. The tofu pieces were TINY. Save your money, go somewhere else. This place is not worth the hype. Also absolutely no wiggle room for vegetarians.

Diner Review №119

Innovative cocktails, flavorful and complex dishes, friendly and attentive staff. The crab curry was especially delicious.

Diner Review №120

Amazing Thai food, one of the best I have ever had. Great service. They made us wait a bit for our table but it wasn’t a big deal, definitely worth it for the food. Highly recommend it.

Diner Review №121

Crab curry was spot on. Mix everything on plate.
Good flavorful crab fried rice. Could have more chunks of crab.

PAK BOONG FAI DANG: water spinach stirred in wok. Very flavorful.

TUBTIM KROB: very interesting dessert, must try

Diner Review №123

My favorite Thai Restaurant in the city.

Before the pandemic, Boston's Thai food scene was relatively uninspiring, with very few restaurants venturing beyond basic chicken and rice dishes or Americanized Thai food. Boonnak and Saikamthorn have since brought a much-needed contemporary and refined touch to Thai dining in the area. Although their offerings may not be elevated in the traditional sense, they excel in refining the seasoning of their dishes without sacrificing the bold heat and acidity characteristic of authentic Thai cuisine. This thoughtful balance makes their food an excellent complement to cocktails and other drinks.

While I agree that the Crab Fried Rice and Pad Thai here are arguably the best in the city, their other offerings are also excellent. My go-to menu is the oysters and the Moo Crab Pad Kapi. The oysters, served with chili jam and Thai seafood sauce, offer a distinctive taste profile. The sauces enhance the oysters' natural brininess, and a light sprinkle of crispy shallots adds a nice textural contrast, and it is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable oyster experiences I’ve had in the city. With a pleasant aroma of lime leaf and extra depth of umami from the shrimp paste, the crispy pork belly rice bow also hits the spot every time.

With their contemporary approach, Mahaniyom have truly revitalized Boston's Thai food scene. It not only serves the best in Thai cuisine but also creates a memorable dining experience that is great for date nights. Securing dinner reservations here can be quite challenging, so I recommend booking at least a week in advance.

Diner Review №124

Some of the best Thai food I have ever had. The fried chives were so good. The curries were so different and delicious. The shrimp and pomelo salad along with the green papaya was tasty. They have a bar opening soon and I can wait to check it out!

Diner Review №125

Diner Review №126

The food and concept are easily a 5/5. I am a sucker for being able to try multiple smaller plates of interesting dishes. The food was all phenomenal and the service was excellent especially considering we showed up without a reservation, close to closing, and while the restaurant was packed. My only mark down would be that the cocktails, but they’re still a 4/5. I appreciate the originality of the drinks, but some of them didn’t quite deliver on their promise flavor-wise.

Diner Review №127

Make your reservation now ! atmosphere is so relaxed with music playing 🎶 in the background. It is a small space and you don’t want to miss out.

Parking: 🅿️ street metered parking

Now, let’s talk grub. The food here is next-level delicious. I’m talking mouthwatering – fried chive cake, spicy beef massaman, 🦀 crab fried rice, pomelo salad..pure perfection in every bite. And the staff? Total rockstars. They’re friendly, helpful, and just plain awesome. So, if you’re in the mood for some seriously tasty Thai eats, Mahaniyom Boston is the spot to be. Trust me, you won’t regret it! It’s made my list of recommended restaurants and it is a short list!

Diner Review №128

Bold, big flavors with a street-food vibe!

Came here for a date night. The place has a cocktail-bar vibe with individual bar counter seating and just a few tables. It's small so it fills up quickly - better have a reservation if you don't want to risk it!

The portions are not big, but we think 2-3 items per person will absolutely suffice. The prices are very good for the quality of foods and there is a nice selection of creative, interesting cocktails.

The food: The flavors are big, bold and everything we ordered was a mouthful. Massaman curry is wonderfully sweet, with some heat the more you dive into it. Crab curry is sweet and mild. The morning glory had a wonderful burnt aftertaste. And the pomelo salad is just out-of-this-world good mix of sweet, tangy and salty.

The service is nice and was very fast. The only gripe we had is all the table are really close to one another, but it only adds to the street food vibe.

Overall this small bar is wonderful and highly recommendable!

Fantastic cocktails. Outstanding service. Such a great place.

Beef panaang (a little spicy) and chicken pad Thai are both great. Best in Brookline (at least!)

Came for a late dinner on my partner's birthday and had the best time! Such a fun environment and the friendliest staff around. I've been dreaming of the crab curry and crispy pork since we left. A cool cocktail list, too. Can't wait to come back!

Diner Review №134

Really enjoyed everything at this little restaurant especially the pad Thai and Panang curry.

Portion sizes are small so i recommend getting a lot of things to share.

Diner Review №135

Probably the best food I’ve had in Boston—coming from a NYC transplant. Incredible flavors, cool atmosphere, and friendly service. Will absolutely return!

Diner Review №136

This cute little spot really packs the flavor. I was introduced by a friend who comes back every time he’s in town from California. There were good vegetarian options and lots of seafood forward tapas. I’d recommend the papaya pad thai, mushroom salad and curries. Lots of tasty mocktails too. You can’t go wrong with any dish here.

Diner Review №137

We had hot and sour ramen and tonsaku ramen. The food was ok although portions were small. I asked for extra spicy but I think they forgot. The place was mostly empty but they seated right next to another filled table by the front window - kind of weird. Decor was sports themed - kind of clashing with rest. There is better in Coolidge corner.

Diner Review №138

Too expensive for the tiny portions they serve. I understand this restaurant runs on the concept of tapas but ordering three dishes which were $20 each did not fill any of us (we were three people). Some dishes are pretty experimental, like the papaya pad thai. We expected a regular pad thai with papaya added to it but we got a pad thai with shaved papaya as the rice noodle substitute (we should have asked about it beforehand). The interior is cozy but small as other comments say, so you don’t get much privacy as people are practically eating right next to you. I really enjoyed the ginger ale with rice water.

My friend and I had a great time here. Food was excellent and full bar with good cocktails. Earth our bartender and the other person that helped us were really friendly and welcoming. The dish that surprised us the most was a warm mochi soup for desert. So good!

EDIT JAN 2024: We came back with a reservation after not having eaten here in a while, but were disappointed at how disorganized the restaurant felt. At any given point there were people waiting in the small open area by the door. We showed up for our 6:30pm reservation but weren't seated until 6:45pm. There's supposed to be a seating time limit but I guess it wasn't being enforced?

The food was good, as always, but if we come back we'd definitely try to avoid weekends.

ORIGINAL: I've been wanting to try this place and was not disappointed. Had a reservation for two on a Sunday night at 7pm but ended up getting there early around 6:30pm. Didn't have any expectations but they were able to seat us anyway. I'd definitely make a reservation. The space itself is pretty small, with our table mere inches away from the tables on either side of us (we had to move the table to one side just for me to squeeze into the wall seat).

We ordered five plates between the two of us, which was a good amount. Standouts for me were the Fried Chive Cakes and Beef Massaman, which was a curry that came with roti on the side. Everything came out nice and fresh, and was a good variety of different Thai flavors.

I would definitely come back, as it exceeded my expectations. A little on the expensive side, but definitely a good spot for a meal for two.

Diner Review №154

Glad to have this restaurant in our neighborhood! The level of spice was fantastic, wish it was more of the norm for Boston to have this level of spice. And every dish was filled with great flavor. The beef masaman curry lives in my dreams. It was so good and the little scallion pancakes, chef's kiss. Had the Thai iced tea which was also yummy and look forward to coming back for some cocktails in the future!

Diner Review №155

The Moo kron pad kapi was absolutely amazing. Get the chili fish sauce on the side if you want a little extra spicy kick.

My only complaint is that the dish felt small for the price.

Diner Review №156

The best Thai food I have eaten in Boston! Their cocktails are very innovative. I highly recommend the crab curry and lamb ped. When they say spicy, they mean spicy. The fried chicken skin in good too. The cherry on top was their dessert - pumpkin mochi. We will be back to try other dishes! Just so good!

I was so excited to go to this restaurant and the experience was frankly a complete disappointment. The service and food were mediocre and the place was so crowded it truly felt like a restaurant where the priority is maximizing orders, rather than quality. Although the massaman was fine, the other dishes we ordered had 0 flavor (was there even papaya in the green papaya pad thai??) and the drinks were dull.

Diner Review №159

My friend said the shrimp Pad Thai was the best she has had. Love it 😍

Incredible food in an intimate location and definitely worth making the reservation! I am looking my forward to their new bar concept!

Diner Review №162

Favorite Thai place in town. Some of the dishes have the most authentic flavor I’ve enjoyed outside of Thailand and the cocktails are peak

Diner Review №163

Great service. Nice drinks. Crab curry and beef massaman was great. Squid was on the chewier side, but we enjoyed the sauce it was paired with. Didn’t so much enjoy the rice crackers w/ chicken. Wish we had tried the pomelo salad. Would be happy to come back and try other things.

This was the best dining experience my wife and I have had in recent (past 5 years) memory.

The food was delicious every dish was better than the next. It was sweet, sour, spicy with the right amount of umami. Everything was simply delicious.

The service was also the best I've received in any restaurant in the greater Boston area. The right amount of attention with subtle suggestions and tips on food and drinks.

This will be a regular spot for us now...it will be in our rotation of "regular" spots to visit.

If you're in your early twenties and want a rave/club type atmosphere (where you can't hear anyone) with your evening dinner, along with some early twenty year old political statements/ stickers on the entry door and windows, then this could be the place for you

Showed up for our reservation and had to wait because the folks at our table took a while. Hostess brought us the drink menu and comped us an appetizer for our time. Quality service from folks who want you to enjoy your meal. Great cocktails and amazing food. I do wish the layout left you with a bit more room.

The Massaman Beef and Chive Cakes instantly set the tone. I knew I was in one of the best restaurants in Boston after the first bite. The cocktails are as strong as the dishes and service was lovely. These folks can cook, so come hungry.

Diner Review №193

If I could describe my experience in 2 words, it would be cozy and yummy. This place is perfect for a date night, but it is small, so I would recommend making a reservation because they do fill up quick.

All of the dishes we ordered were super fragrant and packed with great spices. Which, speaking of, if you have a low spice tolerance, I warn you that some dishes can get pretty spicy.

My personal favorite was the beef massaman with the roti on the side. Their curry was so flavorful, the meat was melt in mouth, and the warm roti was the perfect vehicle to carry the wonderful flavors and textures.

The pork cheek was also well seasoned and fried, which paired wonderfully with the sticky rice that was served with it. The bbq pork and crispy pork is as expected, no surprises or wow factors coming from it.

Diner Review №194

Reinventing what we think of as Thai cuisine. Great cocktails, sharing portions of some very tasty food, spiced well but not too spicy. Had the pork cheeks, morning glory and beef massaman. Highly recommend for date night or a small group of friends.

Diner Review №195

Takeout is not worth it. Half of what they sell is the restaurant experience. The bar itself is a nice spot, but they only give you half a container of take out and fill the rest with bean sprouts. Pad Thai is pretty bland without many noodles. If you’re looking for a cheap eat, this place is not worth it

Diner Review №198

Vegetarians beware. I personally eat everything and can review from my perspective but I went with a friend who is vegetarian and he had a very different experience. My friend regularly eats Thai food and has lots of options but at Mahaniyom he was informed that there was only one thing on the menu he could eat: a tiny mushroom dish. Yes this place is tapas style, yes it is an appetizer but he finished his few bites and stared at the rest of us. I felt horrible recommending this place. On the menu itself it looks like there are various options for vegetarians but our server informed us that they are made with oyster or fish sauce in all cases and there's nothing they can do to change that. In my opinion especially in the modern era where many others are looking for a more plant-based diets, I think it's crazy that they don't really have any vegetarian options and if they are only going to offer one, don't make it tiny and extremely boring. He said the mushrooms tasted good but did not leave feeling like he had eaten a meal. I think they should offer pad Thai or At least one or two more dishes without fish sauce for those with dietary preferences / allergies.

As for my meal, I got the crab curry which was very tasty. There was very little crab meat in it what was there was shredded to the point that it was hard to telln if It was really crab. That said, the curry itself was so good I had a hard time caring one way or another. The curry was pretty thin and had no larger ingredients for texture. The dish is served with a side of vermicelli noodles bean sprouts and some greens / herbs. Adding all of that in made it feel more substantial.

Another friend got the whole fish and we agreed it was excellent, a great portion and totally worth the $35. I would ask for a little bit more sauce. Also, it ended up being fine because I love spicy food and She tolerates it but she came in with an upset stomach and so asked for significantly less spice and it was still pretty hot with LOTS of peppers on it. No regrets in eating it because it was so good but if she really had a bad spice to tolerance she would be miserable with her dish.

The crab over rice cakes was tasty but not too special and didn't feel like a cohesive dish.

Lastly, the drinks were fantastic. Very small though. I got a daiquiri with their homemade herb infused rum. It was tasty and packed with flavor. A little bit medicinal but I actually liked it. However it comes in a very small glass. The other drinks come in a bigger glass but with ice cubes filling the entire thing or one giant ice cube in a rock glass. Out of curiosity I poured the liquid into my empty water glass and it was only about quarter full for all of them. Despite this the taste was good.

Going to a tapas place You expect to pay a lot and need to eat multiple dishes. I wasn't bothered by that but did think the menu should talk about how much to expect (two chicken wings, enough Curry for 2 people to share appetizer etc) to better allow people to order accurately.

All in all, I am not ecstatic to go back but may give it another try... Just not when I have any friends who are trying to eat less meat.

Diner Review №199

Food and cocktails were delicious. The staff is amazing. Def going back.

Diner Review №200

Have been here many times and the food is very good. As a loyal customer, I tried to book a group of 8 people for this evening after a funeral. I was told there was going to be a very high minimum charge per person and they'd have to send me a contract. My family is in the restaurant business so I know that large parties sometimes come with such requirements, but the amount they were asking per person was prohibitive so as to basically push our group away. They were not accommodating or welcoming, it seems they did not want the business.
