We’re new to the area from a very Asian neighborhood in Southern California and went to East Moon Asian Bistro for the first time after shopping in the area. We entered around dinner time and I saw the signage at the hostess desk about Chinese pork bun (something I loved while living in SoCal) so I was hoping the server would elaborate. Sadly, that didn’t happen and the lack of communication and customer service would be a constant reoccurrence this evening.

I liked that being seated (in a booth for the two of us) was quick and that we were given salad with sesame dressing and a glass of water almost immediately. The ambience and decor was nice too. The restroom was also clean.

I didn’t like sitting for nearly 20-30 minutes afterwards with no server returning for our order. When the server did come back around, she didn’t say hello, introduce herself, ask if this was our first time or recommend anything from the menu. She also rushed us by trying to take our menus before we had finished ordering.

We ordered a Japanese beer, an East Moon alcoholic drink, udon noodles with beef (to share and for home), a happy family entree and a Thai lemongrass meat entree. We would’ve asked for a sushi or appetizer order to eat there and a pork bun order to go BUT our server didn’t seem to want to hear it. I tried to ask a question to signal for her to slow down and communicate but she whirled away without answering. She came back to deliver the drinks, then the food and once more at the end of the meal when she asked if we wanted more water when it would have been more appropriate to ask whether we wanted dessert, to-go boxes and the check. A check-up on water and the current food should have been conducted midway through the meal. Again, I would’ve liked to order pork buns to go but wasn’t given - again - the opportunity before our server was gone again without communicating.

After ordering, I went to the restroom to wash up. I was pleased to find it was clean. Upon return to the table, I was also pleased to find these HUGE portions of food - and it was delicious!

Overall, we’re getting closer to finding delicious Asian food here in Maryland that compares to my Chinese, Japanese and Korean community in Los Angeles, California but too bad service here was lackluster (long wait til ordering, no intro, no follow-up and rushed). The food was very good and given in generous portions but the dine-in service makes take-out seem like a blessing.

It was truly exceptional. The sesame chicken and Mongolian beef were both incredibly delicious, with the perfect balance of flavors and textures. The sesame chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a savory sauce that had just the right amount of sweetness and nuttiness from the sesame seeds. The Mongolian beef was also cooked to perfection, with juicy, tender beef that was seasoned perfectly and served with a flavorful sauce that was both savory and slightly spicy.

The service was also top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. The ambiance of the restaurant was also lovely, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that made for a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

Overall, I would highly recommend this Asian restaurant to anyone looking for delicious and authentic Asian cuisine. The sesame chicken and Mongolian beef were both standout dishes, and I would give this restaurant 5 stars without hesitation.

We really enjoyed our lunch here. We got the chicken coconut soup, beef drunken noodles, sesame chicken, and Mongolian beef. Everything tasted really good. If I were being picky, I'd say the Mongolian beef was my least favorite and wouldn't get a 5 star. Drunken noodles is one of my favorite dishes in general, and this one did hit the spot! The service was great, and I felt it was a very kid-friendly place. It's in a nice location with plenty of parking as well.

Update 2nd visit: Once again our food was amazing! We ordered 4 different dishes. This time we tried the Crispy Roast Duck, Chicken Pad Thai, Chicken BBQ, and Sesame Chicken.

Excellent food. We ordered 4 different dishes and they all tasted amazing. The atmosphere inside is very upscale and inviting. Definitely a great place to bring the family or have a date night.

I got a Tsunami roll that said it was spicy crab and cucumber inside, spicy tuna on top. There was so much crunchy added in that it was dry and dense, not like the pic. I thought it would be all raw because the description did not say crunchy.

Full bar, amazing sushi options and nice decor. Good for dining in or carry out. Parking can get tight but that’s the only downfall and can’t fault them for that. The soups have so much flavor and pair very well with any of the sushi rolls. Chicken tempura is my favorite off of the lunch special menu.

I like the soup a lot. The service was very attentive. The vibe is a little weird, but there’s nothing wrong with it per-se.

1st time visiting and happy to find this place. Food was absolutely delicious and more than I could eat!! salad dressing was yummy with very good food at reasonable prices -- we will be back!

Good quality food, reasonable price, great portion size and great ambience. Food and meat quality is well above the standard Chinese take out. Definitely recommend.

Our favourite: Singapore Rice Noodles with chicken, Basil Chicken, Basil Fried rice with chicken. Ask for extra spicy.

Some of the best Sesame Tofu I’ve had. Usually you only get. A few pieces of broccoli, but this place put a bunch of veggies in there and the tofu was cooked perfectly.

I like the soup a lot. The service was very attentive. The vibe is a little weird, but there’s nothing wrong with it per-se.

Great pan-Asian food, they offer a little bit of everything (Chinese, Thai, etc) so you can mix it up each time and do it VERY well.

Portions were large with plentiful veggie and protein, but FLAVORS were really off.
1) The green curry was WAY too sweet and missing a tanginess to balance it out.
2) The basil fried rice did not taste like basil at all, the leaves were overcooked and dried out. The rice was an unappetizing dark brown which I thought was a sign of too much soy sauce, but surprisingly the dish was lacking in salt.

3) The texture of the noodles in the pad si eew was the only element that was well executed. The taste was completely bland. The vague spices that did come through lacked the traditional Thai flavor profile. And huge green pepper chunks do not belong here.

I'm so bummed out that all 3 of my dishes were so disappointing. Who was in the kitchen tonight?

Great sushi and wonderful service. We can always count on East Moon. The place looks like it needs a bit of a deep clean, though. A refresh would make the whole in-person experience better!

My friends treated me to food at their home,,, It was very tasty, I was pleasantly surprised. When I asked who prepared this dish, they answered that they bought it from the East Moon restaurant. Today I specially came to this restaurant and the food is really very tasty, the hall is big and the service is excellent… And I am sure we can hold many events in this restaurant!

I moved a few years ago and haven't been back...until today. And they're just as good as they used to be. The food is fresh and delicious, they pay mind to your food allergies, and the service is fantastic. I wish I could put them in my pocket and move with me. Highly highly recommend to everyone

Beautiful place, excellent service, portion size was right on, the orange chicken was a 4 only because or the small pieces deep fried as normal but would've like larger pieces of chicken... may ask for all white meat if possible.

Considering what I was used to paying at a sushi restaurant, I was surprised how much sushi we got for a relatively cheap price. Only thing off-putting was that the waitress still gave me a straw when I clearly stated No straw when I ordered my drink.

The food is consistently delicious. Great servings, great value. Staff is always pleasant!

Ordered takeout on a slow Monday night, everything was fresh. Portions are HUGE, LITERALLY falling out of the containers. And the seasoning is light so the salt content isn't heavy. Lobster sauce where you can actually taste the fresh veggies.

I went with my family for dinner. The service was fast and attentive. If we needed water, they would come over and fill it without us asking. The food came out fast and hot. I had the chicken teriyaki and vegetables. The plates were large. I had it for leftovers the next few meals.

Korean kimchi

I frequent this establishment via doordash. The Panag curry is delicious but gets 4 stars instead of 5 as the thickness and quality and quantity of the veggies and meat vary drastically day to day. Sometimes, it's the lovely thick Panag with fresh veggies in balance with the amount of meat. Other days, it's as thin as soup and has a mushy lump of okra (I'm guessing) in the middle with far less meat.

Love the entrees, very quick takeout option, great lunch prices, this is one of our local faves

I've been looking for another East Moon since they closed the one down in Woodbridge, VA. and I stumbled upon this one when I was in the area. It was great as usual.

Usually when I order take out from other Chinese restaurants the portions are small, but east moon has great portions! I ordered the sesame chicken and it tasted so good and fresh!! On top of that delivery was very affordable and fast. My food arrived very hot.

It seems you're supposed to be a thai food ingredient expert as the staff doesn't like being asked what is in the dishes. The first thing I asked, was if the menu had descriptions. I wasn't told it did until after I'd placed my order. I haven't tried the food so I can't speak to that. Restaurant is kind of quiet at the moment. I like a warmer environment and friendly people so I don't think I'll be back.

This is the first time movie eating dinner there it's always been lunch before but this was great the scallops were wonderful

We stopped by this place yesterday and were sorry that we did not do it before. The place is very clean, neat and nicely decorated, with only a few customers, the food is great, the service is outstanding. The prices are not the lowest, but reasonable for what you get, most of entries are around $18 . We sincerely believe that this place is undervalued.

Good sushi lunch. Came with Miso soup and a small "salad." It was just a bowl of chopped iceberg lettuce and some peanut sauce on top. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful. Overall, I enjoyed it and would go back and try some new stuff.

Husband ordered food from here and it was inedible. I have had frozen meals with better flavor than this. We ordered kung pao chicken and general tso's. The general tso's was ok, not very flavorful but edible. However, the Kung pao chicken had no taste/very little flavor. It's almost like they forgot to add the spices that add flavor.

Wife and I went for dinner the other night, jonesin' for some Asian food. We had tried this pace many years ago and thought it was terrible. Welp ... either our memories were off or they've changed significantly.

Really nice large clean dining area with a bar/sushi bar. We were given a large booth. Our server was very nice and fast. The menu offers choices from a range of Asian countries, from China to Japan and others.

Food was, contrary to our memories from long ago, great!! Prices were not unreasonable. We'll most likely come back when were hankerin' for more Asian food. This was a pleasant surprise.

I really love their food. Their menu is huge, but a few dishes i have tried so far was good. This time, i shared TNT sushi and beef drunken noodles. I was really expecting a kick of heat. However, the drunken noodle was not spicy, although tasty. Whereas, i had asked for extra spicy.
The wait staff were really attentive. Filled our glasses with water and drink as soon as needed . Would definitely recommend.

I love this spot for their sushi lunch special. Really cheap and you get a soup and salad for under $15. I always get their yellowtail, spicy salmon or California roll. Great value and quality for what you pay for. Food comes fast and the to go packaging is really nice.

Service was fast and they were friendly. Food was not the same. Spring rolls were good, but orange chicken was hard (not crispy from frying), and sushi roll was just ok. Must have different chef now. Used to be one of my favorite places to go for sushi. Don't think I will be back.

We are extremely disappointed with EAST MOON ASIAN BISTRO. They have always served quality food, but just tonight, we see that they have lowered their standards, just like so many other restaurants. Times are tough, we agree, but to coat your chicken with a “fatty substance” before deep-frying it is OUTRAGEOUS!!! Trying to make the chicken appear to be larger is DISHONEST! Have you tasted your own product? Try the General Tso’s Chicken, or your Chicken with Honey and Sesame.
The chicken is horrible because of WHATEVER you are putting on it!
Prepare to lose many faithful customers!!!! You can’t run a successful business by deceiving your patrons.

service was okay, server only came to us once after getting our meal to fill our water . The meat on my fried rice was super undercooked and so chewy i couldn’t eat it but i couldn’t even ask them to cook it more because the server only came back to give us our bill :/ was sadly very disappointed

Best asian food in town!

We’ve ordered from East Moon a few different times and we’ve always had good food. Their sushi is fresh, pad Thai has a good flavor, combo fried fried isn’t too greasy and also has a good flavor. The crab ragoons were good, although would have been nice to have a little bit more crab.

Overall, would recommend and will definitely order again!

It's okay. Asked for water for me, pot of tea for other. She brought and charged us for two cups of tea $1.94 each!

I sincerely try to give restaurants several chances before I give 1 star reviews but I had to make this one. The food here is good. I’ve been to this location 4-5 times. Each time my food has been good (sesame chicken, sesame shrimp, gyoza, sushi). However, the pure disregard for basic customer service is absolutely unacceptable. Each time I’ve been here the customer service has been absolutely terrible. There is one waitress who wears glasses that is rude, condescending and quite frankly should not be working in the service industry. The first few times dining here I was rushed out by her as she brought the bill early, one time she yelled at me to hold on when I just wanted a refill. This last time I asked for a sweet tea lemonade mixed and when she brought me the wrong thing, she said “well you didn’t say you wanted it that way”. She then brought me an empty glass and said mix it yourself. While these instances may seem minimal they were filled with attitude as if she didn’t want to be there. After asking to speak to the manager, she seemed to want to be nice but did not serve us for the rest of our time dining. The manger was accommodating by giving us a 20% discount. However, the owner stood back and watched and tended to other customers instead of coming to speak to me as well. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone and caution those reading this to reconsider visiting.

I usually go to the Bowie location but this is my first time at the one in Ellicott City.

The ambiance was great. The food was delish and plentiful. I took leftovers home and I still couldn't finish it all myself. I had the shrimp fried rice and the lucky 7 sushi. Everything was fresh, the shrimp big and the broccoli still had a crunch like I like it.

The staff were very attentive. I was so happy to see the consistency in food quality between the two restaurants. I highly recommend it.

Service - walked in and was greeted promptly. Server was quickly to my table inquiring about a drink order. She got my order quickly, and presented my food as it came out. My only qualm was when I requested some row for my California rolls, and they asked me to do a full order of roe. I think we could have communicated better. But all on all, quick polite service is what I experienced.

Food - let me tell you $14.95 for choice of 3 rolls, soup and salad is a KILLER deal. Salad came first. It was a bit disappointing because it consisted entirely of iceberg lettuce with a tasty peanut dressing, but over all not bad. Miso soup was perfectly par in flavor, but had tons of green onion and seaweed in it, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Sushi was served on what might be the most obnoxiously large platter. But I did grow to like it. It was kind of like eating off of a lunch tray. Rolls were well stuffed with fish, which is very pleasing. The rice was pretty well done, but needed a little more work. But I do think the flavor was great for the value of the meal.

Atmosphere- because it's such a large room, it feels strange when there are only a few tables seated. The decor isn't my style, but this ain't my restaurant. Would see a busy weekend night having more energy and feel.

Great food! Excellent service

The food was okay. Nothing special. Kung Pao Chicken cheapened up by using peanuts rather than cashews. Wasn't bad but not as expected. Spring rolls rather bland. Service was attentive and very good. I did not have Sushi. Might go back just to try some. We went for a Sunday lunch. Kind of quiet. Daughter likes their General Tso's chicken. Came with spring roll and fried rice.

We don’t know why this restaurant isn’t packed. The decor is attractive, the prices are reasonable especially considering the large portions, the service is excellent, and the food is wonderful! We had the Kung Pad chicken which was spiced perfectly, and the Panang Curry - which was packed with vegetables, and tasted perfect (my standard is the food I have eaten in Thailand - sawatdekah!). The chicken in both dishes was melt-in-your mouth tender. Sorry to read of the negative reviews but that wasn't our experience at all.

This place serves best vegetarian Thai curry and Drunken noodles. It out competes any other Thai food place around here. Great taste, reasonable price, and good ambiance.

Great food unique menu

I went back after many years and they definitely still have the best fried rice. The basil 🌿 fried rice is delicious and fresh. The staff is very friendly, service is fast and efficient. I love the small salad they give you as soon as you sit down, the Crab Rangoon, the Thai Hot & Sour Soup, and their sushi. Next door in the same location you have a Starbucks, Cold-stone ice cream and you don’t need to move your car if you wish any of those things after dinner.

The food portions are large and delicious. The atmosphere is calm, and the restaurant is clean.

I had the pleasure of having a large group come here for our annual Christmas lunch.. the service is always with a smile.. food is beyond fantastic with a large selection. My group loves coming here.

A neighborhood gem worth traveling to. Friendly service, reasonable prices, a varied menu and everything is delish. Definitely try the Thai spring rolls, pot stickers and Krab Rangoon are tasty starters and you won't go wrong with the Royal Chicken or Basil Chicken or Shrimp!

Always great! Consistent, tasty food. The manager, hosts, and staff are excellent as well. Love the sushi(blue crab rolls and redskins rolls), Sriracha chicken & broccoli, Thai fried rice, and Yaki udon noodles!

Great food and great service

Went here with my dad for lunch on Friday. The place was very clean, lit, and decorated. Friendly staff, and good food. Only thing is that if the menu says spicy its not very spicy; about as hot as fresh ground black pepper. Good place to eat and will be back.

Delicious Combination Fried Rice with complimentary egg roll at a great price. Lots of food: enough for two people or a second meal.

I absolutely love this place but they definitely need more staff the last three times I've been in there they only had to waitresses and it was pretty busy. Definitely come visit if you have not because the food is really delicious the sushi is great but please if you're reading this try to get more staff. I love you guys and I don't want to see you fall
