Planet Thai - A Lexington Lunchtime Gem!
I recently enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Planet Thai with friends. While the restaurant itself is simple, the food is absolutely amazing! The flavors are rich and authentic. I had the Chicken Pad Thai (mild spice level) and it was delicious! My friends raved about the Shrimp Pad Thai and Spicy Massaman Curry.
The Egg Drop Soup was a standout appetizer - incredibly flavorful and a perfect start to the meal.
The service was incredibly fast and friendly. Our entire lunch was over in just 33 minutes! The staff was efficient and made us feel welcome.
If you're looking for a quick, delicious, and affordable lunch in Lexington, Planet Thai is a must-try! We'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu.

I recently visited Planet Thai and was thoroughly impressed by the service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to respond to any requests, making the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. From the moment I arrived, they made sure I felt welcomed and taken care of.
As for the Chicken Pad Thai, it was outstanding. The dish had a perfect balance of flavors – the savory sauce was rich, the noodles cooked just right, and the chicken was tender and juicy. The combination of fresh ingredients, crunchy peanuts, and a touch of lime elevated the dish to another level. It was truly one of the best Pad Thai dishes I've had, and I'd highly recommend it!
We have been coming here for years and always have a great experience! Tonight, we celebrated a birthday with our family. They easily accommodated 8 of us. Service was great, always filling our drinks and making sure we were okay. Food was hot and fresh! Medium spice was not too spicy. I only took 3 photos of Drunken Noodles, Spicy Eggplant and Thai Basil with Tofu. Everyone else had different curries. Everyone loved their dishes!
First time eating there. Appetizers were good. The Pad Thai was very good with the green onions and peanuts. Chicken in it was tender. Plum sauce was awesome drizzled over it with the lime wedge. Rice, vegetable and chicken dish was smokey and flavorful. Definitely will return.
Ordered chicken pad Thai. Got a bowl of very lightly thinned spice almost no spice or flavored noodles. Zero chicken. Not e en egg was in the bowl. Was dry tasteless. Zero flavor at all. Could have at least added some chicken to add glare since it was chicken pad Thai… disappointed.
Great customer service!! Our waitress was such a sweet lady!! Tom yan and tom kan soups were soo delicious, the spring rolls were equally as good. The green curry and something else I forgot the name of (however I will insert a picture of it and it will be the first picture of the many) were the best dishes we had. But pangang curry was not as great. The fried rice was also very delicious. This restaurant has such amazing authentic Thai food, for sure coming back!!
Just okay. Very Americanized cheap Thai.
Worst pad see ew I’ve ever had. Easily. But the spring rolls were good. Portions were good, but the food was not (so does it matter that the portions were large? No). Price wasn’t great for how bad the food tasted. Chicken was tough, noodles were flavorless. I would never recommend this place.
I’ve been going here for over a year and I’ve never gotten a bad dish. I’m celiac and I always get the pad thai which is gluten free. I’m sure there’s other gluten free dishes, but thats my favorite and I’ve never had any reactions. Their serving sizes are more than enough for a meal which is great because the leftovers heat up well. I couldn’t recommend this place more!
Food and service are amazing. Favorite Thai place in town that I've tried. I always get either the Massuman Curry or wonton soup.
TOM KAH SOUP DELICIOUS!! Full of flavor!!!
Will return if in thr area!! Ty xoxo
Crab fried rice is the best in KY
Wonderful food and good service.
This place feels like a cozy diner once you sit down.
Best Thai food in Lexington, hands down.
best Pad Thai in Lexington! nothing compares. Flavor!

I was very disappointed. I bought Crab Rice (broccoli, carrots, and onions) with added shrimp, and plum sauce to go with it for $20.08.
You can smell the crab, but an’t see it, 4-shrimp cost $3.00, broccoli-3 florettes, carrots-a teaspoon, and onions, a maybe a tablespoon. The rice has no seasoning, and looked like it was thrown together. I pretty much spent $20 on rice. Never Again! My first experience was not a good one, and it will be my last. I will not recommend this restaurant ☹️.
Order the chicken Pad Thai extra spicy and it was terrible. Chicken was bland and tough.. I could here Gordon Ramsay screaming in the back of my head. No spice or flavor at all. Tasted real sugary. No bean sprouts. I also had a side of peanut sauce it just tasted like they blended a tablespoon of jif in a few cups of water. No coconut no spice of any kind. This is shameful.

Best Thai in the city hands down!!
Great hidden place. Good for students. Lots of food
Used to be good. Now the food has zero flavor. No coconut in curry
Large menu with many choices. The wonton soup and Pad Thai with pork were both great!
Would recommend going for the food. The interior's not the best, but the service in food is really good. I did take out.
If you want fresh this is the place! Everything was awesome and I don't use that word lightly, egg drop soup to entree, fresh meaty chicken chunks, crisp vegetables, pot stickers very good. I will be back soon.,
The food here is phenomenal! I always get the drunken noodles and my husband gets the pad thai.
Absolutely love this place! Amazing food and prices are very fair. I love going when it's not busy. Staff are very kind and friendly. One of my favorite places.
Great place to get lunch ! Everyone is always friendly
Literally amazing. Thinking about hiring some goons to extort the spicy eggplant with beef recipe. Literally nothing like it it’s impeccable!! Their rice is ok. Go here
Very good food
One of our regular stops! The food is delicious!
My favorite and only place I get Thai food in Lexington! Everyone is so friendly, I’ve dined in and ordered take out and I’m always impressed!
one of my favorite restaurants in town! They have the BEST food and their customer service is amazing!
always make sure to get their potstickers!!!
Very good food and large portions. I had enough to take home and eat a full meal the next day. Staff were friendly and not overbearing. Everything was reasonably priced for the amount of food you got
Had a birthday celebration and ordered in for six people. Only got five orders. The orders we received were wrong and the birthday girls order was missing entirely. When we called we were hung up on. Then they did not answer untill a diffrent phone was used. They pulled the right order up but refused to make things right after acknowledging they left out a dish. Wanted us to buy the dish again and pick it up. Poor service all the way around.
Waited 25 minutes for my order that was ready for carry out but they forgot to give it to me so it sat there for 20 minutes.
This is the best Thai place in all of Lexington. It is authentic, the coconut Tom Ka soup is to DIE for, and the Duck is not chewy. Never had a bad dish here and I have been going for over five years!! I recommend it to everyone.
First time going with a friend that highly recommended it we went for lunch it was delicious.
Food is great and the staff are always very friendly.
Planet Thai is great. Service is quick and friendly and the food is great. Prices are very reasonable. Parking is a bit limited if you come during a busy time, but there's spillover parking behind the building.
This is better than all the Chinese restaurants combine. The food remind me of home and its fantastic. I love their rice. It don't smell like dead animals.
Such a nice place. Staff is always super friendly, food is delicious, and their prices are reasonable for the generous portions.
Overall good experience with good resonabley priced with friendly service and smiles
Some servers here are less than courteous, they are very busy, but their problem is not going to be my problem!!!
Food here EXCELLENT though!!!!!
I definitely recommend this very good, reasonably priced Thai restaurant!
I got the beef Drunken Noodles while my lady got the beef red curry. Both were quiet good, and very well flavored.
The chicken Tom Yum soup was fantastic, and definitely made from scratch. Lots of veggies and wonderful flavors.
The chicken pot stickers were wonderful, home made, and fried. The dipping sauce appeared home made.
If I were to offer a criticism, I'm not a huge fan of using canned food (like canned bamboo shoots) to provide the illusion of fresh crunch. They were a little overused in the curry.
The server was friendly and attentive, just over stretched, which meant little one and one. If that's their style, that's their style, but I feel like the prices could be raised if they offered better service (at least a host and one server, our host was the server).
The atmosphere was cleaned, but a bit dated.
All and all a good experience.
PS After much discussion with my girlfriend, I've come to determine this restaurant may deserve 5 stars after all. But I am a man of principle, and will let the four star review stand.
Delicious and authentic Thai food.
Drunken noodles got me feeling DIFFERENT
😩👌
Website prices are incorrect. Got charged $2 extra to add chicken. Website says it’s only extra to add seafood. Don’t know what I’m missing.
We always love it! Basil Fried rice is my favorite!! Portions are large!
Service was good, food can be better
Pad thai was good. Dining room was kinda cluttered.
The food has great flavor but when I order drunken noodles, I really want the wide rice noodles that are traditional to the dish. Mine was served with the pad Thai style noodles which have good flavor but lack the style I prefer.
Also, Thai hot was medium at best. Everyone at my table of 8 agreed that our meals lacked any heat, for some strange reason.
The service was friendly but struggled with splitting our checks. Just an off day, perhaps.
The best fried rice in Lexington
Service was fantastic for the entire visit. Food was good, hot and fresh. Not as spicy as I had hoped but still good. Will be back!
The food here is absolutely incredible! We tried Planet Thai for the firs time yesterday, and even though the atmosphere is a little lacking, the food is the absolutely incredible. I highly recommend the Massaman Curry and the Drunked Noodles. The crab rangoon is no joke, either.
Yellow Curry is devine!
Totally shocked! I've eaten many Thai places and love the cuisine, BUT NOT HERE.
Got the pineapple duck ... it was deep fried and disgusting. Even my dearly loved yellow curry was sub par and lacked the deep robust flavor profile you normally find in this dish. Family member got the chicken fried rice, and it was inedible.
Won't be back.
I have eaten here many many times, the food has always been good, the service is great and I think this is the best Thai place in Lexington
I am sitting here eating this monstrosity as we speak. Ladies and gentlemen, you must understand that this is not a Thai restaurant. What we have here is a th restaurant. They don’t deserve the full title of Thai.
Where to start?
Upon entering the establishment, duty called and I was hurried off the the restroom. It was disgusting with a horrible smell that turned my stomach. But I said I’ll hurry up and eat something anyways.
I ordered the spring rolls and crab Rangoon. While the spring rolls are the only positive thing to this review. It wasn’t enough to save them from this verbal assault.
The Thai tea was actually good because of the flavor. But I digress.
For my main, I ordered the basil fried rice and when I say horrible…. I ordered it extra spicy. It came to me with minimal flavor and tasted as if I came from a box. Veggies were undercooked and tasted like a rubber tire in my mouth.
Not only did I order food, but my wife, sister, and brother-in-law. All had horrible food and bad reviews.
Overall, this was a terrible experience and I will not be returning to this poor excuse for Thai food. Way better options in Lexington than this. I have been to many Thai restaurants and this has no Thai taste.
Fix your issues. As a matter of fact, just throw the whole establishment in the trash like your food. Now my stomach hurts.
Our favorite Thai place in town. Curry, drunken noodles and fried rice are all delicious.
Best Thai in Lexington! Pineapple chicken fried rice is my go to, and the spring rolls are a must. Get an extra plum sauce!
Ordered takeout, crab rice, and I added shrimp. It comes with broccoli, carrots and onions for the amount of money that I paid for this dish. It was not worth it at all. a couple, broccoli spears, and maybe 2 tablespoons of carrots. I ask to add shrimp and they charge you three dollars for four shrimp, Do not order crab rice and don’t ask to add shrimp you’re gonna be disappointment. also you cannot see the crab but you can taste crab seasoning and little crab. Not sure if they changed cooks or what. I heard that it was not like that before. Basically I spent 20 dollars for 2 and half cups of rice never again. 😠 😞
The best!!!! Ruth and the staff are great!
There was a giant shard of glass in my water and i didn’t notice until after i was drinking it, when i was paying my bill my friend explained what happened and the cashier said they weren’t going to give me any sort of discount or comp my meal because the glass was in my drink and not my food. I mean me personally… i don’t think there should be glass in anything you serve but okay!
I stopped in after no longer being able to quiet the craving for Pad Thai I’ve had for two days. The kind and cheery lady at the front desk treated me as though I was a friend she hadn’t seen in quite some time! She made me feel welcome while I waited and my order was up quickly. It was piping hot and I could tell it was going to be delicious based on appearance alone. It did not disappoint! Flavorful and loaded with all of the ingredients you love to see like chicken, bean sprouts, carrot, and green onion. Portion size is great. Definitely enough for at least a couple meals, split with a friend if you don’t want leftovers but this is the kind of food that would reheat well. Definitely going back!
We had a great meal with wonderful service. The portions were good size and the prices were fair. This was a good find.
A favorite of my friends and I am always looking for a great Tom Kah
I really enjoyed the food. It wasn't busy when we went. The atmosphere was chill. Will definitely visit again!
Friendly great staff and very delicious food.
The place is getting run down a bit but the food continues to be excellent.
I have never had a bad experience! They always have great service. I love getting take out or even dining in. I get their pineapple curry every time and it’s delicious!!
The behaviour of the waiter was rude.
First time we have ever ate there ! I don’t think we will go back not going to say we won’t but it will be a very long time ! Took forever to take orders messed up our drink order was going to charge me for something we never got ! Bathrooms were nasty. Then we got the bills and there is a number on bottom of 18% tip included cause we had 7 people in our party by the way they don’t have this posted or do they tell you so if you go with a certain amount of money and you are with a big group plan to pay 18% more then they wanted a tip too! We had to beg for stuff extra plates extra spoons ! Was really excited but then the manager got very rude with me and was yelling at me on the phone! I would say go somewhere else!
Terrible chicken, obviously in a crockpot for a day or more. Felt sick shortly after eating a few bites. Brought the food back and was refused a refund. Very bad management that started yelling at me in front of his few customers that his food could not possibly be bad because he has customers. Sadly, I used to like the fresh food that came from here years ago but they have let there standards and freshness go out the door. Nothing was fresh to order and stale grease was used for what was bought frozen and fried. Time to find a new Thai place with some decent care of their long term customers. Btw place is dated and zero atmosphere and welcome if you ever want to eat there...run!
Food is Amazing and the rice stays moist even when you reheat it the next day. The rice tastes as good as day one
Amazing food and service
Been going here for many years. Good food, good portions and prices. Love the fish tank.
Always great food.
I normally love Planet Thai, but not tonight. First of all, they deserve kudos because I have been going there for years and tonight I had my first issue with my meal. That’s a damn good track record! However, I ordered it spice level 5, very spicy, and it’s very bland and I am not seeing any red pepper flakes. I called to complain and they made no offer to make it right or give me partial credit even though I made it quite clear I was very unhappy. I don’t like that. It’s not like I have made a habit of complaining. This is the first time. Do better, Planet Thai.
Interior is a little dated and dilapidated but the food is good. Also when you say you want something really spicy you might have to do some convincing to get them to actually make it really spicy.
Best thai food I have ever had in the whole US. I lived in Thailand for 6 years and this is as close as it gets. Curry tastes fresh and fried rice is authentic as hell. Reminds me of eating it as a kid :’)
Got three different takeout entrees and all had issues. Chicken was dried out, the noodles had probably been sitting around for a while because they were dried out, and the Massaman curry was bland. Not sure what the deal was but I would have sent all three dishes back if we had dined at the restaurant.
Came here for the 1st time and it will definitely be the last. I'm a chef and the food tasted like a frozen dinner.
The food has always been amazing and delicious. The staff is friendly. We've been multiple times and never had a long wait for the food. Drunken Noodles are a must try!
First time visiting. Ordered Pad Thai and it really lacked seasoning.
Good food and good customer service. I order hot and spicy and it wasn’t that hot but they had great portion sizes!
It’s ok
Delish
Best PA Nang Curry and Pineapple Fried Rice, the service was excellent. We will definitely be back!
Food is decent. Restaurant is dirty. Customer service is horrible! Went to pick up to go order. Someone finally came to the counter to help. Told him what I needed and he said someone would help me and walked off. Waited longer just to pick up my order. When someone finally came to help me they said my first credit card was expired. It wasn’t. Then said the next t one didn’t work. It does. Don’t know if the person didn’t know how to process a credit card, but finally paid cash. Will NEVER be going back. Horrible experience.
I really like the food here, and I’ve never had a bad experience with it. I love the massaman curry and the mango shrimp. My husband gets the drunken noodles, and the kids love the pad Thai.
The only thing that bothers me is they have some fish tanks, and the fishes’ water seems really dirty every time I go in there. I wonder if they’re not cleaning the tanks enough, so it makes me wonder about the state of the kitchen. 😬
I don’t normally review places but here I am. We’ve been to PT several times in the last few years with nary a complaint. Tonight we sat for over 30 minutes without even receiving our appetizer order. We ended up leaving and coming to Archa Nine. The table next to us received the entirety of their order over the course of time we sat there waiting for ours. So by the time on person finished their meal, their friend received what they ordered. Not sure what’s going on but it’ll be awhile before we attempted Planet Thai again. I’m leaving 2 stars for the other times we’ve been and it’s been good.
Good service and food
We have been coming here for years and always have a great experience! Tonight, we celebrated a birthday with our family. They easily accommodated 8 of us. Service was great, always filling our drinks and making sure we were okay. Food was hot and fresh! Medium spice was not too spicy. I only took 3 photos of Drunken Noodles, Spicy Eggplant and Thai Basil with Tofu. Everyone else had different curries. Everyone loved their dishes!
Just went for the first time and will definitely go back. My girlfriend had drunken noodles and I had something I couldn't pronounce but was super delicious with noodles, chicken and lettuce. The gyoza & egg rolls are an amazing appetizer as well. Super friendly staff and can't wait to go back. Very affordable prices.
Very friendly staff whom goes above and beyond for customers and their wait times are impeccable!
Food was excellent and service was very good.
Been a while. Prices are good and reasonable. Food is good with decent portions. New owners/management are friendly.
The food was great but the service lackluster. Was never visited by staff... Needed to call them over for questions, orders, and silverware.
Good food, it is something different. I don't know much about Thai food but I like this place.
This place is no longer the same since it changed ownership. There were 2 shrimp in my shrimp pad thai. And it's just not as good as it used to be. So disappointing.
The egg rolls are out of this world!!!
Slow. Took 45 minutes to get our take out food after we ordered. Portions small, but good.
I paid for 14 bucks for a MASSIVE amount of delicious pad Thai. Reasonable price with great food. The waiter was also super nice and fast with service.
I was very intrigued to try this Thai place because of other reviews saying it was good. I was sadly disappointed. First off they were either under staffed or could not keep track of which guests had arrived before others. We were seated quickly but our order was not taken for almost 15mins. Our order took almost 30mins later to arrive at our table. The place was not full or busy. We ordered Spring Rolls which per the menu we would get 5, when they arrived, we got 3. They were egg rolls (fried), not spring rolls (fresh). We mentioned this to the waitress, and she stated that the restaurant didn't get spring rolls, this was what they had. No apologies or any normal courtesy of a messed up order. How about if someone orders something and you don't have it, say so; then I could order something else. Don't bring me a different dish and call it good. We also ordered Panang Curry and Drunken Noodles both should have been fairly spicy, they were barely spiced at all. Sadly, the curry was super watery and didn't coat the veggies or chicken at all. The drunken noodles were mostly noodles and they were not the right kind of wide noodles either. Wholly a not good experience, I would not recommend this place. Move along to some where better, with courteous wait staff and better food.
Really delicious Thai food - this was the best pad Thai I've ever had.
Good place. I enjoyed it all
Planet Thai is great. The food is delicious, the service is outstanding, and the price is right. Highly recommend if you like Thai food. If you haven't tried it you need to.
The food was absolutely delicious. I had the green curry and pad thai and both were absolutely wonderful. The spice was perfect, it packed a good punch without sacrificing flavor and the staff were very attentive.
Update: I went back again 8 months after the original trip, green curry was delicious again and so were the drunken noodles. Staff was once again very attentive and polite
Had the crab fried rice and it was delicious! The only downside is that there were some pieces of crab shells left in the fried rice which was a bit inconvenient because it kept interupting me 🙄 but the taste is really good. The flavor was phenomenal. Also liked the Thai iced tea here. It's not overly sweet like some restaurants.
Food is good.
We really enjoy food from Planet Thai, but at this point, we will need to find another place in town for take-out. They consistently fail to have the food ready on-time or anywhere near the timeframe they provide. Every single visit, we sit on the bench with others waiting for our food, and it is always 30-45 minutes late. Tonight, I placed an online order at 5:37pm to be ready 6:30pm. When my husband showed up at 6:30pm, they greeted him with an “oops” and ran to the kitchen. The food was not ready until 7:30pm, and at no time was an update given. They used the same excuse from last time that “we only have 1 cook”. And like usual, there is no concern from the staff, no apology, and nothing to correct the problem. Additionally, both last time and this time, the order was wrong. The panang curry was delicious, but my pineapple fried rice with shrimp is some sort of noodle with tofu. So if you order from here, just be prepared.
LOVE Planet Thai. One of our favorite spots in Lexington. Great food and fantastic service.
Food was bland. Speaking from a perspective of someone who has visited Thailand. Service was apathetic.
Unfortunately the food is bland and the service was apathetic...Disappointing
If you want to enjoy Thai food, this is the place to be in Lexington. Quick service, affordable and delicious!
Lunch prices have gone up a dollar But they give you good Size Servings.
Love this restaurant, the staff is very polite, food is delicious, full flavor and fresh... Thank you again
We visited there with my Sister from Canada, it was a nice experience. The food was too good and moreover the hospitality was superb. We all liked it. My daughter son in law abd Grand daughter also accompanied us
There was a hair in our food and the woman who take care of us was rude, this was my worst experience in this restaurant but the flavors in the 5 other orders was great
Hands down the best Thai food in Lexington!
My son and I ate here for the first time tonight. Absolutely delicious. Good price, nice portions. Can’t wait to come back and try something else.
Delicious food and an amazing staff!
Great place and very friendly staff
Great people
Food so consistantly good 👍 👌
Great menu, food quality stands out.
Great PadThai! Very attentive host.
We waited a long time and then the server said they never put our order in. We had to order our food to go as we had another appointment. When we finally got home the food was pretty good - and there was a lot of it - but it's hard to appreciate in this case.
Absolute garbage. Asked for shrimp, none. Asked for extra spicy, none. Didn’t think you had to ask for flavor, but maybe I should have…none. Basically just noodles and chicken. Worst part, got it Togo so no correction available.
Also…no chopsticks 👎
The worst customer service I have seen anywhere. A customer complained about food, instead of taking care of it, the owner asked him to go to some other place. I will never visit this place again.
Delicious and huge portions!
Even though this place was very busy, we were able to get a table and got our food quickly. It was delicious! Great experience!
Used to be really good and authentic Thai cuisine but since they sold it a few years ago the quality of the food and service has progressively declined. I ordered pad thai and specifically told them I can't eat peanuts bc I just got crowns on my teeth and literally can't eat the peanuts. The food came out with peanuts anyway and when I told them I couldn't eat it they took it back into the kitchen and literally just scraped off the pile of the peanuts on top and left the ones that was cooked in it. The chicken was also really tough almost rubbery. My husband got the drunken noodles and both dishes were broken noodles with not a whole noodle to be seen anywhere. This is a case of either they used the very last of a container or poorly cooked.. When we were getting ready to leave I asked for 2 boxes and was given a drink to go instead. We won't be coming back. There are better thai restaurants in town.
