It has been a number of years since we visited. Sadly, seems like they aren’t as good or as friendly as we remembered. Serving sizes were rather small on the Pad Thai ( I ordered tofu vegetable) and the curry dishes. Yet prices were similar to the other Thai places in town. The atmosphere is nice, but it seems that they were too busy to really appreciate the customers.
I’ve been here a number of times and it’s always great! It’s definitely a hidden gem here in Lexington. I got the stir fried garlic beef and the tung tong appetizer (very similar to crab Rangoon but lighter.) I definitely recommend both. My boyfriend got the pad Thai which he also loved. The waiter was very attentive, refilling our water asap and taking our plates away when we were done. I 100% recommend this place!
As someone who has been eating Thai food my whole life back in Asia, I had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately, it was a letdown. I ordered the fried rice, and it was far from authentic.
The dish came with broccoli, which I’ve never encountered in Thai fried rice in Thailand. The flavor was bland and lacked the seasoning and balance of sweet, salty, and savory that Thai food is known for. The portion was small for the price, and given the lackluster quality, it felt overpriced.
If you’re looking for genuine Thai food, this isn’t the place. This fried rice didn’t even come close to what authentic Thai food should taste like. Sadly, I won’t be coming back.
I’ve eaten a lot of Thai food in my life and the food here wasn’t terrible, but the service was indifferent and unwelcoming (the worst part), the environment was pretty nasty, and the portions were small and way overpriced. The fact that this place is currently rated 4.1 stars is baffling. I’ll never be back.
This is the best pad Thai an the best eggrolls I’ve ever had in my entire life. If I could retire inside of an eggroll, it would be an eggroll from the Bangkok house in Lexington. If I could have children if I could bare children from my barron womb would choose for that child to come out an eggroll from the Bangkok house. Please eat here. They have Pepsi:))
Hands down the best in Lex!!!!
Best Pad Thai in all the land...every menu item is phenomenal..Owner is a gem

Long time go to restaurant. Well prepared and friendly. What more could you also for?
2024 update: staff can be overwhelmed at busy times, but still has good food and friendly service. When I am nearby it is still a standby
Place is not much to look at but the food and service was good.
Portion size was very small and it was expensive given how little food. Did taste good though
We love Bankok house-they have been teaching us the deliciousness of Thai cuisine for many years. Lexington is lucky to have this family owned gem. Absolutely delicious!
Buen servicio
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in town. I love their masamun curry with tofu and the pad Thai. The raspberry soda is amazing, too. I’ve never had a bad experience here- always speedy, friendly service and delicious food.
Too pricey for lunch and the portions are smaller than many Thai restaurants. The food was fine, but nothing special.
I've eaten here for years and always come back for the garlic chicken!

The food was very tasty, restaurant clean, and the atmosphere was serene.
The best Thai food in Lexington and the nicest people you'll ever meet. This is the only restaurant I make it a goal to visit weekly.
I ordered my two favorite things from a Thai restaurant which is pad thai and Thai iced tea. I paid over $14 for the smallest portion of pad thai I have ever seen in my life it was bland and was an appetizer size. Also My Thai iced tea was 4 sips and done.... It was nothing but ice. Please don't waste your money here
The best Pad Thai around! It's like sharing a meal with with family!
Sadly, the worst Thai food I’ve ever had. The curry was watery and tasteless, portion sizes are about half of most other restaurants, and priced the same.
Absolutely my favorite pad thai anywhere, period. Order mild, med, or hot (btw it's very hot!). Chicken is my favorite, but you can also add in extra veggies, egg, other meats, etc. Pad thai from anywhere else always seems too wet and/or greasy or something lol in comparison.
Always fast and efficient service. Spicy Pork Pad Thai with Hot Tea is perfect on a cold winter day.
Smells very bad inside, serving size is much less than other places, and the chicken pad thai is subpar. First and last time here.
Really great food. Hole in the wall but absolutely delicious
Nice crew 😊
Tasty food
Very good food. I got the chicken pad Thai plate with Thai tea and is was Delicious!!
We moved from Lexington 12 years ago. So glad they're still operating and still as good as ever! Would eat there every week if I could.

We are in town for a convention, and wanted to eat some Thai food. We went here, and just wanted to recommend that you don’t eat here. There is a odd smell in the restaurant, there is one guy who takes care of everything up front, so service is slow (which is okay), but he charged us 15% gratuity when there were only 3 adults and our five little kids (ages 6, 4, 2, 2, 1). We paid almost $50 for three vegetarian dishes that had small portions, and the food was not worth the money.
Food was not true traditional Thai, and the portions were very small and overpriced. 🙁We will not be back.
Used to go here all the time when I went to UK. Met up with my brother not too long ago and parked at Bangkok House right before they opened. Ran across the street to use the restroom, came right back to find that Bangkok House had our cars towed. Said something to the owner, and he was extremely unprofessional. Will definitely NEVER be patronizing Bangkok House ever again!
I had the eggplant veggie sauté with a delicate brown sauce, half spice intensity with tofu. Fabulous! Nice cold Guinness…great meal before the philharmonic. Great chef and just one server for entire restaurant…attitude is perfunctory, not indifferent as I read in a previous review. So incredibly reasonable.

The food from this restaurant is barely eatable. Over salted and tasteless with small portions. They truly need to hire a new cook. I spent $70 with a delivery and threw out majority of it. The only good thing about this place was fast door dash delivery.
Best Thai food in Lexington
The food is consistently delicious. They have food for spicy lovers and those who prefer a mild dish. We have been eating here for years.
Was super disappointed when we ordered from Bangkok House. Got Panang Curry and not only was it not in a larger container like normal, but smaller container wasn't really close to full. The curry itself was also thinner then I've ever had, almost water in consistency. Wouldn't have been as underwhelmed if it were $9-10 like normal, but cost $15 witj only protein that wasn't an additional charge. Egg rolls were unfortunately the best item by far.
Try to be understanding given current state of service industry, but likely will be first and last experience with Bangkok House as there just wasn't much good to say about it and there are several other incredible Chinese/asian restaurants in Lexington. Hopefully this was one off experience and other people have had better luck.
This award winning restaurant is probably the best and most authentic Asian restaurant in Lexington. Food is excellent.
Old rediscovered favorite, little hard to find. You have to go down steps to get to good food and service. Mix of Thai and Chinese, known for their Curry.
Been coming here for years. Best chicken Pad Thai around.
The spicy chicken pad thai was aweaome.
Ordered online. Came hot and perfect.
Got the Pad Thai, some of the best I've had locally. Disappointed I haven't eaten here sooner, especially as a local.
Favorite place to eat lunch near UK campus. Delicious and healthy Thai food Will prepare to your heat level -- I like mild, but for crazy people that like stratospheric spicy, ask for "Michael hot" -- it is named after a former UK Math grad student.
Waste. Just pitiful
Ordered tofu pad Thai and got a total of 3 small pieces of tofu. It was okay for Thai food but Lexington has better. Don’t waste your money here
No dining in so didn't order...will never go back.
Carry out only. Great Thi food. Best egg rolls around.
The Pad Thai is my favorite from anywhere, I will be back without a doubt. I went with spicy, which had the perfect level of spice. Staff friendly and carry out ready quickly. 10/10 recommend
Always delicious ! The family is some of the nicest people you'll ever meet
Best Thai food in the state, very authentic cuisine and the owner, Pom, is always very friendly.
Service was nice, food dissapointing
Not the worst Thai I’ve ever had, but certainly not the best. If you are ordering Tofu here, you may as well just go to Kroger and get their cheapest block and make it at home. It would be better than the Tofu at this place. I was super excited about all the curry dishes on the menu. I ordered the Red curry with tofu and it was literally just a pile of bamboo shoots in a watery orange liquid that vaguely tasted of coconut milk and store bought curry paste. Save yourself some time and money and go to Thai Street Food Kitchen. Very fresh and authentic. Too bad this place isn’t better, it’s in my neighborhood and would have been super convenient.
Terrible - gave us both food poisoning! We read the good reviews, figured we would try it. Dining room was closing when we arrived so we got takeout and left. We each ordered curry, one chicken and one vegetable. After a couple bites we both thought something wasn't right - the smell was bad and the flavor was off. We threw both meals in the trash but it was too late, we both woke up with food poisoning in the middle of the night, I'll spare you the details. I think this is the worst food I've ever experienced from any restaurant and I wouldn't dare ever eat there again.
Delightful food!
They have the best Pad Thai I've ever tasted, their Thai Tea is great too! Definitely drop in and give it a try if you haven't.
Ordered via DoorDash one Saturday afternoon. I had the "drunken noodles". I use quotations because they weren't really drunken noodles. They don't use the flat rice noodles. Instead, they use a regular, thin rice noodle. They also throw in little cherry tomatoes, so I think it's more like a 'use whatever we have in the kitchen noodles'. I know it wasn't a mistake because two of my friends also ordered drunken noodles, and received the same thing. The actual flavor wasn't bad but I just didn't care for the swap. If they ran out of the flat noodles, it would have been nice for a head's up, because I probably would have just ordered something else. But judging from some of these other photos, the other dishes don't look that great either.
Amazing food, people, and location but it sits like a rock
Literally the worst fried rice I've ever had
Hands down, my favorite Thai for the 16 yrs I lived in Lexington. I live in Louisville now, but still try to grab carry out whenever I visit. At 1 point, they knew me by my weekly call in order. The owners (family owned and operated) are so kind and always welcoming - RIP to the husband who passed.
I can’t believe those of you giving 1 star reviews because “They were closed”. Oh, boo hoo. They close once a year, every year, to go back to Thailand and visit family. They post this info every year. You’re giving bad ratings for your own entitlement, not because you were given terrible food. So douchie!
I would give them 6 stars if I could!
Food tasted great, portions were a little small for the price
This place is like a UK campus must, but they’ve been around long enough that I can still enjoy even post grad! Their pad Thai and pineapple curry are both sooo good! The building is definitely a little older, but the food quality is always delicious and a must try if you haven’t yet!
Nice food
I thought the land down under was Australia. Nope.
The food is ok. Quick service. Portions are on the smaller size but lots of options available
My favorite underground restaurant - literally in the ground. It's a super charming little Thai restaurant that manages to be warm, cozy, and welcoming despite (because of?) it's Hobbitiness.
I highly recommend the green curry. Seriously, it's the best green curry I've had anywhere (and believe me, I've looked). This place is my go-to for Thai cuisine in Lexington.
Most authentic Thai food ever!!! Lived in Thailand, so I relish the freshness, and true spiciness of the food! Topped off with original true Thai iced tea!!! Love, love, love it!!!
Love this place. Great food!
Authentic and DELICIOUS. The thai cream soda is so good and all the food tastes really fresh. They are hardly ever busy so everything comes out quick.
Every single dish was amazing! Can't wait to go back!
Best in Lexington
The food and service is excellent. Definitely a hidden Lexington gem you should try!
Best Thai food in town. Special bonus, the owners and servers are especially kind!
It was our first time eating there and it was Wonderful the service was Great. We will most Definitely Be Back.
Great pad thai, drunken noodles. And the coolest chop stix in the business.
Food was good but the portions were tiny.
Amazing Thai food that is to die for! The trip there for just the Thai tea is completely worth it. They have plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, and you can substitute the meat in their dishes for tofu. Definitely recommend any of the curries and their Bangkok vegetable rolls.
Love this place!
Wonderful food, and authentic. I love the beef massaman curry. The service is great as well
The restaurant is in the basement of a little strip mall next to the University of Kentucky campus. Don't let the location throw you. The restaurant is run by the owners and the service is excellent. I've never been to Thailand, but the food from Bangkok House is a compelling invitation to go. The ginger tofu is my favorite dish so far, but everything I've tried has been good. Obviously, I'm a repeat customer, and I highly recommend this comfortable eatery.
Great food, great family. Love this restaurant. It's one of the mainstays in the UK community. My favorites: Basil Chicken, Bangkok Chicken and Pad Thai with extra vegetables. Their egg rolls are fantastic.
One of my favorite places to eat. I was so sad when the owner passed away, but very happy his family continues to keep the business open. I wholeheartedly support them. Wonderful people. Great food.
Place has gone way down hill. It used to be one of the best Thai locations in Lexington but other places have improved and this location has gotten worse.
I've gotten some of the best curry here.
