Light-filled, modern chain branch serving up bento boxes, sushi and hot Japanese dishes.
Place is beautiful. Staff very friendly. We were looking forward to ordering food from here because we’ve heard great things. If you like Chinese, no not order from here. Flavor is there and presentation but the Chicken is chewy and absolutely terrible. I don’t understand why restaurants can’t use good quality chicken and chefs can’t tenderize the meat so it’s not rubbery and chewy. Very disappointed. Will not be ordering again.
Our first experience at Wasabi and it was Excellent! The staff was very polite, kind, and helpful. I loved the lighting and how elegant this restaurant is. The food was delicious 😋 we got a starter, entrees and raw rolls. It was a lot of food. 💯 loved it and we will be back
I ordered a few different options, starting with a seaweed salad. I thought the food was great and was very filling. The seaweed salad had a great taste. The king crab crunch was great! The individual pieces of sushi were big and I thought the different components meshed together really well.
The food was good, a bit above average. Hated the service, I think it was closing time and I was ignored, asked twice for spicy mayo never got it. I’ll be generous with a four star but honestly 3.5 star is where it’s at.
Restaurant is pretty, indoor outdoor seating, good vibes.
Always a great experience.
They take food allergies so seriously and are always knowledgeable about what goes in each menu item.
Absolutely wonderful service every time we have come.
This place is always worth the visit!
Five stars for Nic.
The absolute best place for Sushi

Amazing sushi great service best sushi in Des Moines
Best sushi in DSM
Overall great experience.

Quick and tasty!
Always a great experience.

Absolutely wonderful service every time we have come.
This place is always worth the visit!
Food is fantastic. Service is always superb. Cocktails are wonderful. The manager, Doug, is always a pleasure to talk to and a genuinely nice guy. We recommended this place!
I was excited to go to this restaurant for my friends birthday but sadly I don’t think I’ll be going back. My waitress McKenzie was good, it was only her third night but she was very attentive. However the issue was when I was eating my chicken wonton ramen I found a hair wrapped up in the noodles. I didn’t make a fuss. I calmly called her over and she rushed to get her manager. I showed the manager and again without a fuss asked for another ramen to be made for me. McKenzie was very apologetic; even going as far as thanking me to be so cool about it and that I would not be charged for it but the manager Doug never apologized at all. The second bowl came out, I was skeptical to eat it but it was good so no complaints. But then the bill came and the ramen was still showing so I asked McKenzie about it, she took it to manager Doug but came back and said I would only be given a 10% discount. I was sorely disappointed by the managers way of addressing the issue. I had only taken a couple of bites of the first ramen and the bowl was still full when I called them over to show the hair in the soup. If that’s how they treat customers I WILL NOT be back to here or to any of the locations around the metro area.
I had the crunchy crab roll lunch special and it was delicious! Great environment and vibe in the restaurant as well.
was busy over lunch
Excellent sushi. Highly recommend
We always have a great experience at the Wassabi in Waukee and that’s why it’s the only one we go to. Today we had a new server named Gavin who did a fantastic job and the food was excellent as usual. The curry is so underrated and is one of our favorites!
Food was great
Great food! Awesome wait staff.
Wasabi in WestDes has been one of our favorites for a long time. Recently our son turned 16 and is only request was dinner at Wasabi. Needing a large table, using their reservation was easy and fast. Hunter treated us like VIPs and stewed our group timely and accurately. Thanks for Hunter and the Manager, Doug are great hosts.
Quality food and friendly service. The Blood Orange Margaritas are delicious!
5 stars. Sushi was great and the whole experience was spot on. I would highly recommend.
Great food and service top shelf place
Always good and clean. Great service
One of our favorite sushi restaurants in the area! Quality is great, drinks are always tasty, and staff are very friendly.
Best spicy tuna roll we have ever had!
The food was amazing, the hand rolls are the best! Our favorite was the Dragon Roll and the Kani and avocado salads are to die for!
Our server was great. The food was terrible, especially the teriyaki steak and the sushi. The atmosphere is fi e if you like loud dance club music.
The rolls didn’t have crisp veggies in them. The rolls were super chewy and were not appealing.
The food was good
Service was great
👍👻👻👍
Absolutely loved the food and the freshness! Highly recommended!
Several restaurants across the metro. I recommend the one on Hickman in Des Moines. It's quiet and conveniently located. It's clean and if you like sushi, this is a great option.
The sushi here is really good, but my favorite is the spicy squid salad. Also reccomend trying the 5 spice old fashioned
Easily the best sushi and Japanese food we've had in the west metro area. High quality ingredients and well cooked/prepared. Entrees start at $16 per person and most are $18-24. A bit pricey for me personally but overall worth it.
I'm newly diagnosed celiac and it turned my dining out life upside down. Wasabi is my go to. This disease really makes you feel like a pain in the butt to wait staff but not here. They are so cautious and so understanding, making me always feel safe eating here. And the food is always on point. Gavin his my go-to waiter. He takes such good care of us when we're there. And if something isn't gluten free and you want to try it, chances are they can make it gluten free for you. Thank you Wasabi. You have no idea how much it means to me to be able to eat safely at your restaurant.
Great spot for sushi!
It’s clean, tasty, and fun! The staff is always nice.
We visited Wasabi for the first time Friday evening and sat at the bar. All the staff were friendly, but the stand outs were Lexi & Henry - amazing bartenders! We ordered 3 sushi rolls, all were outstanding! The best sushi in town (and we love sushi!) we’re gluten free and they modified the rolls for us, no problem! We're planning our weekly date night here from now on!
Good food!
Food was pretty good but nothing that the other 60 sushi restaurants in town don’t offer. Got take out and the price and food was on par with the other higher priced sushi places in town like Hana. I’ll be back but it’s not worth going out of your way for
Great sushi and Ramen, excellent service
Delicious sushi. Very fresh tasting. Staff was extremely nice!
Wasabi's brand, in general, is amazing, but Waukee just kills it every time. Spicy Edamame to start with amazing cocktails. Dont know what the secret slatherings are on the Spicy Edamame, but I could basically drink it. Then amazing spicy, saucy rolls (should've taken a picture when they were delivered). Believe they were "Out Of Control, Red Wave, and Tuna Princess". Also amazing fresh Blue Fin (not your average Yellow Fin) Tuna Sashimi. Great conversation, service, and ambiance. Doug and his crew really know how to bring a great experience start to finish!
Great service, delicious well presented food. Will definitely go again!
Beautiful restaurant with wonderful sushi and more. Our server was very professional and courteous. Will definitely go again.
Great welcome from the Host, great server, foos was awesome. The team worked well together.
This is our first visit, and we were really impressed with the food and service. We ordered two appetizers and three rolls. The crispy Brussels sprouts were our favorite, although the shrimp rangoons were also very good. The Mr. Miyagi Unagi was everyone's first choice, followed by the Tuna Princess, and finally, the Angry Dragon. Our SIL ordered the crispy orange chicken and said it was the best he'd ever eaten. We ordered the crispy chicken for our grandson, and he cleaned the plate.
Love this restaurant! Brussels are excellent and the sushi is top notch! 🙌🏻
Wasabi in Waukee is a fantastic dining destination for sushi and Japanese cuisine enthusiasts. The restaurant's ambiance is modern and inviting, creating a pleasant atmosphere for both casual and special dining occasions. The sushi menu is impressive, featuring a wide array of creative and traditional rolls, sashimi, and nigiri, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Their presentation of dishes is artistic and appealing, enhancing the overall dining experience. The menu also includes a variety of other Japanese dishes, catering to a broad range of tastes. Service at Wasabi is attentive and friendly, with staff members willing to offer recommendations for those new to Japanese cuisine. The cleanliness and attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant are commendable. Wasabi in Waukee is a must-visit for anyone looking for a delightful sushi experience or a taste of authentic Japanese flavors
Extensive menu to choose from, great quality food! Our server Creeanne did a wonderful job!
I like this location better than other Wasabi locations. Staff is better and sushi is done better.
I’ve been to every one of the Wasabi restaurants now with this visit. I sat at the bar which was incredibly clean and well kept. The bartenders were fabulous not to mention the absolutely delicious food. I had the sashimi and sushi for 1, some steamed edamame, and an amazing pomegranate martini. Definitely a worth while eating experience!
Everything was great. I took one star off total because they didn't have any dishes with tofu.
All of the Wasabi's have great food and atmosphere!! Henry is an awesome bartender and the rest of the service staff are amazing and fun to interact with!!
Nothing against the restaurant. We have tons of options for this kind of food. I went in with an open mind and thought the following. I’d say this place is just average. Nothing really blew me away. The chicken wontons were different. The sauce was a little strange but still good enough to dip. I assumed they would be crunchy but are actually soft like a dumping. The pad Thai was ok. Nothing crazy. The sushi… not my preference . I got the spicy crab roll and thought it was very plain. It wasn’t spicy at all? They didn’t even top it with spicy mayo? Here’s the worst part. I’ve gone to way too many Asian restaurants. I’ve never had anyone ever tell me they couldn’t make my food spicy because the kitchen will just make it too spicy. So instead, the server brought chili oil to me and claimed it was extremely spicy. My tolerance isn’t that crazy. It really wasn’t spicy. I’ve had chili oil numerous places. The place maybe targets a different kind of crowd. Maybe a crowd who doesn’t like anything very spicy at all. Definitely average and would suggest if in the area. Definitely not an option for someone that doesn’t make it past West Des Moines. There’s numerous places that just kick this one out of place.
We tried this place for the first time (take out). We order teriyaki chicken and teriyaki shrimp. I literally had 8 small pieces of shrimp 3 pieces of undercooked broccoli and 1 slice of hard carrot. Paid a total of $41 and was still hungry.
Great food and service!
The food has always been excellent each time we have visited. Servers are friendly but typically are inexperienced and not very knowledgeable about the menu. A small amount of server training would go a long way at bringing the restaurant to another level. That said, we definitely will be back.
Walked into Wasabi Waukee and decided to sit at the bar. I was quickly greeted by the one and only Lexi. Lexi was one exceptional bar tender. The upmost care and comfort. If you wanted to be treated like regular on your first visit I definitely recommend visiting Lexi behind the bar at Wasbi Waukee!!!! You have a winner on your hands Wasabi! Home run.
I ordered a few different options, starting with a seaweed salad. I thought the food was great and was very filling. The seaweed salad had a great taste. The king crab crunch was great! The individual pieces of sushi were big and I thought the different components meshed together really well.
Still good, but updated service review needs to be pretty rough.
W A I T I N G... For everything.
And my kimchi fried rice was way too temperature hot tonight. Poached egg was crushed by the heat, and so was my tongue.
Hopefully just a bad night.
Very tasty fresh food and good service. Lots of good selections on the menu. A good place to meet with friends or family.
Great food and service!
Excellent service and wonderful food. We had Korean fried chicken, spicy orange chicken with fried rice, and a few sushi rolls. Everything was incredibly tasty and perfectly prepared. We’ll be back!
I loved having my bridal shower at Wasabi, the food was amazing and the staff was super attentive. Would highly recommend hosting events or just have a meal there!
The food from appetizers to main courses are all delicious. Their service is absolutely 5 start. Everyone works there is so friendly. We definitely will go back again.
I cannot say enough good things about this place. I went twice in 2 days, different bartender each night, with the same quality of service, as well as different food, and the taste is incredible! The food came out quickly, especially for the type of food served. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
We go to Wasabi a lot. The food is always delicious and the service has always been really good. My husband always has sushi which he loves and I get something else… usually something spicy.
Once again awesome! We had Hunter T today. He was attentive without being harassing. Explained our sushi and shashmi well. I should also add we arrived right at opening, a very stressful time I know. Several tables seated at the same time. 5 stars to Hunter for being well composed.
Wonderful. Justin was a great addition to our dining experience.
This was my first time going there. I ordered takeout and they never actually got the food ready. I sat there for over an hour waiting. I finally just walked out.
Nice atmosphere.
Good, friendly service. Food terrible....served on brown wilted lettuce. Nothing but breading and heavy sauces.
Oh my land sakes alive....SO GOOD! If you're in the Des Moines area, and love sushi....get to Wasabi.
Good sushi and good fried rice
Quality has really gone down hill. Rolls were all panko filler and not fresh tasting. Really disappointed to see the change the last few times. This used to be a great spot in the suburbs for sushi, unfortunately no longer the case.
They have spicy egg drop soup I highly recommend it 😋
Delicious. Laid back atmosphere and great service.
Wonderful experience. Food was amazing. The service was great definitely recommend going to this location.
My SO and I were close by and decided to stop in and grab some appetizers and a couple drinks. The bartender, I believe her name was Caleah (sp), was absolutely amazing and fun. She made our 1st experience at this location enjoyable, and we will absolutely be back and hope she is there!
Got the kimchi fried rice and ramen. OMG! Delicious. Would recommend 100%
I've been to many of the Wasabi locations and they're all generally pretty similar with small differences. The food is always very tasty and full of flavour and the service generally okay. I rarely if ever feel smothered which I always consider a plus and I really enjoy the selection of sushi and entrée dishes offered. It's no surprise that it's a popular spot among the locals.
I have had a few issues with my meals being a bit slow or incorrect in the past but generally it's not a common issue and the staff do their best to make things right when there is a problem.
The food was great & will be back soon.
Hands down, the best sushi I’ve ever had. Staff was personable and friendly and the bar was very well stocked. This place sets a standard for all other sushi bars to emulate. Holy hell I love this sishi!
Duck red curry was great
Our experience was wonderful, Doug and his team are excellent, professional and polite. We really enjoy sitting at the bar most time, we come in because the bartender Henry is the best in town. You can really tell when an establishment is well managed.
Wanted to try something new. Atmosphere was nice and clean, but there wasn’t many sushi roll choices. When sat down felt ignored by staff. Staff was also talking down on other staff in-front of people at the bar. Had an appetizer, then left to our other favorite sushi place…
Our server, Linda, was incredible! Offered suggestions for the newbie and was wonderful. Food was amazing, I will definitely be back!
Good ramen, great staff!
Wasabi Roll is wonderful, most of the sushi is just a grade-above other places in the Des Moines area.
Food was great I would not hesitate to go back
The crouching tiger roll and char siu pork ramen were both very good. I have been to this restaurant previously and had the sushi and sashimi platter for 2, which was excellent as well. It's a bit on the expensive side but the service is great and the ambiance and decor are more upscale.
Good rolls. Great servers. Reasonable prices.
Amazing service first off from the host to the server. It's so nice to go somewhere, where they know what service is. Food is phenomenal. Been here a few times and there is nothing that hasn't been delicious. All around turning into one of my favorite spots.
Delicious soup was surprising. The sushis and sashimis were tasty for Iowa and well made. The drinks were interesting
Clean, fair pricing for the area/food quality, and nice atmosphere.
My husband and I frequent this restaurant. It tends to be busy, but I understand why, it's great. If you like sushi, just go, you won't regret it.
Great Food, Knowledgeable Staff
Very good food!
We have been there two times now, once dining in and once take out. We really like it! It was really delicious, hot and taste/ flavors were on point! We had sushi and sashimi both were fresh! No kids menu which was disappointing but the waitress had some great recommendations for kids. Mine eat sushi and sashimi so it was really a non issue. I really like the Korean fried chicken (the sauce is on fleek) and the sesame chicken! But everything we have tried has been delicious. Will definitely go back! Yum!
2nd time here, it's a blast, great food. Nice decor
Top notch across the board. Staff and service is second to none and the food is always perfect.
Korean fried chicken was really good. Ramen was okay but great experience over all and good service
One of the best sushi in the Des Moines area. Sashimi is fresh
Great oriental food menu. Whether you cooked or sushi. Service was top shelf.
Was near by figured I would stop in for a Tokyo old fashion. Came later part of lunch hour around 1:40ish. Understood they closed at 230 but had some time to kill. Sat at bar and took about 15 minutes before bartender gretted me. Ordered my old fashion and someone else made it for me. Drank it and about 2:05 I was done ready to leave. Took another 10 minutes for bartender to come back and close me out. I was the only one on bar side and I agree I was there late during lunch but seemed like I was forgotten.
Great sushi place, highly recommend Marilyn Monroe and the Brussels sprouts.
