I normally am not one to complain. However, my boyfriend and I stopped in for our first time here last night as I had recently found out the owner of my absolute favorite restaurant that I frequent often also partly owns this one, and I love sushi so we wanted to give it a try. I ordered 2 sushi rolls, one with soft shell crab because that’s one of my favorite things and once I learned they offered it in a roll, I HAD to try it, it was our entire purpose for coming, and my boyfriend ordered the drunken noodles. This is where things went south. I would also like to preface by saying there did appear to only be one server and he had several tables he was working and didn’t bust down for the nearly 2 hours we ended up being there for.
He brings a sushi roll out first, and sets it in front of me. I ate 3 pieces of it and let my boyfriend try a piece as he was still waiting on his food and I wanted to eat with him. His food comes out about 15-20 minutes after that roll did. Then our server comes back after some time, and I hadn’t eaten any more of the roll because I was saving room to try a few pieces of the other one I had ordered but hadn’t gotten. He lets me know he mistakingly gave me the wrong roll, it was for the table behind us but asked if I liked it anyways. I said yes, I’ve never found a sushi I didn’t like but I was thinking I’d still get what I had ordered originally as that was what I wanted. Some more time went by and I continued waiting, still thinking my order would make its way to our table. Finally our server came back around again and asked if I was going to keep eating, I said I was saving room for what I actually ordered. He let me know that he had cancelled my order because I liked that roll and he’d have to charge me for it. This is where I got frustrated because now not only am I not getting what I WANTED but I have to pay for a mistake that I didn’t make? I didn’t argue though, I said I’d pay it because I’m not confrontational but that I’d still like my rolls that I had ordered originally. We had already been there an hour at this point. Finally, about 45 minutes later, my actual order arrived at our table. I ask for boxes and the check, and ended up spending $16.65 for the mistake roll plus a $5.99 sashimi charge for his mishap. An extra $23 for a mistake that I didn’t make. I have never not tipped before in my life but I did not tip this guy. Not only did I not get to enjoy my meal with my partner, not only did we have to compensate for a mistake that I didn’t make, not only were we there for nearly 2 hours, but all the tables surrounding us were dirty the entire time with plates of food still on them from the last patrons that were leaving as we were being seated, my water glass sat empty for awhile, we were not checked on often and I know he had other tables but he was frequently greeting and checking the tables on the floor and we were sat up near a window. The food WAS delicious 100% I will not disagree, but this experience was disheartening and frustrating and I don’t think I’ll ever go back and if I do, it would be carry out only. I hate leaving bad or unkind reviews, and I want to emphasize the fact that I tried this place out because of finding out who one of the owners is and he’s a phenomenal guy and his other restaurants are amazing on food, service, atmosphere, the whole catch, every single time I’ve gone so I think I’ll just stick to those places instead. I will attach photos of the mistake roll and the dirty tables to this review.
The food and service at this place is amazing. Sadly the only bad thing is the lighting. It has windows to let light in when sunny but it is pretty dark most days, especially when raining. Their sushi is amazing and they are worth the trip. Food is expensive so expect to spend $20 a piece.
Very, very delicious food all around. But the service depends on the day. The head hostess with the messy bun is always stressed, and never has any spunk or personality. Very unpleasant hostess, but the servers are usually friendly, and fast. Also, they do have a kids menu and they are very autism friendly, so that is a definite brownie point in my book.
We have enjoyed the few sushi rolls we have tried when we go there. We are creatures of habit, so we don't change it up much. Everything is fresh! Even when having the raw selections, I have never worried about getting sick.
* Picture is of the Rainbow roll, the little one in the middle(I think) is a California roll, but I can't remember for sure, and the last one is the Bang Bang roll.
The food was amazing as always, and the service was the best. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly.
Amazing sushi

Food is always good! Sushi is the best!
Great food and amazing staff!
Sushi. Hands down sushi. The haters can hate, but they cannot beat the sushi.
Good
Great food, great service, and nice ambiance inside. Very kid friendly staff. They even played with my little ones.definitely coming back here often
I had only one issue in this place the men's restroom 😞 they need new lighting because it's to dark in there I feel like I'm in a dungeon.
cleaner restroom floors and walls soap dispenser machine with a censor on it and for the water of the sink so we don't have to touch anything.
And also a foot door opener as well because you never know if someone didn't wash their hands coming out the restroom.
Other than that they did as much as they could to make sure we were very happy with our food and every way as well as with their customer service it was awesome they really cared about what we needed and they supplied it with a smile 😊.
Plus their food is excellent tasting I would truly would come back again.
But just not use their restroom without gloves and a flash light.
I've never had an issue before, however after my last visit, never again will I walk back in there. I ordered my go to, and when it came I pointed out it didn't have the shrimp tempura, and then when she returned I pointed out that it didn't have the salmon or yellowtail either, she said they were out of yellowtail and that they make it the way the cook feels, 🤯I said read the descriptions and tell me again how they are going to ignore the description, and make it with what he wants, I didn't get to change my order or get a discount, and the call never came that I was promised.
This place is a hidden gem! We came to eat as a crew, and the server/hostess was kind enough to keep the place open and let us all get full. She is a super sweet lady and always greets with a smile! Her name is Shelly and shes a rickstar!!! The Red Mustang Roll is to die for, and the Crispy Red Snapper sent me over the moon! DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS PLACE!! You'll regret it.
Amazing pad thai 😍
Went there for tea with a friend one day, the next day brought another lady to eat and have some Tom yum and salad...man that house dressing was great. We had great service and a wonderful way to end our fellowship. Thank you to the bistro employees for showing better hospitality than other restaurants. I'm soo, going back!
A little on the dim side, but the food was very good. Chef's choice roll turned out fantastic. Service was great.
Our first time eating here for lunch, the panang curry was really good and the price is reasonable. The service was good. The second time I was here, the food and service was good too but we found hairs in our noodles. They offered to change it and said they can make another one for us but we refused. We loss our appetite eating it of course. We still have a lot of that left over. They still charged us the full price for that food. I would have expected for them to at least charge half since we ate half of it. Anyway, that’s protocol and I respect it. It would’ve been a better service though.
We have enjoyed the few sushi rolls we have tried when we go there. We are creatures of habit, so we don't change it up much. Everything is fresh! Even when having the raw selections, I have never worried about getting sick.

Literally waited 15 mins after pick up time for basic rolls, just to have the “Manager” Drop my food on the way to me… nonetheless he apologized. But in no way would I recommend this establishment. Even the hostess was cold and bitter. Didn’t ask if he could replace it either just sad.
My friend and I decided to stop by this restaurant for dinner, and I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive variety of options available on the menu. Living in the Midwest, I'm usually hesitant about trying sushi, but I decided to give it a chance and I'm glad I did because it exceeded my expectations. The service was exceptional, and we had no trouble finding street parking and other parking nearby. The restaurant was bustling with people who were clearly savoring their delicious meals. The food itself was incredibly flavorful, and the sushi chef's skill was truly remarkable. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience.
Awesome staff and food is god tier. Anyways stop in and try thier amazing sushi and you will definitely visit again. Recommend highly and will definitely visit again
Beautiful place, the food was plated nicely and the portions were great. The food was not as fresh as I had hoped, I was not offered soy or other sauce with my sushi. The service had been inattentive and unpersonal, not usually a trait of these beautiful restaurants. Though I wasn't satisfied, I am happy to go and update this review in the future.
Excellent food; very grateful to have a sushi place around here. The pad Thai and taste-of-Asia appetizer were great too. Highly recommended.
Obsessed with this amazing place! Amazing prices, amazing staff and amazing FOOD! Will forever get the chefs choice, love how I can experience different styles and foods through each chef! Will forever drive an hour to eat here absolutely worth every bit of it!
The food and service at this place is amazing. Sadly the only bad thing is the lighting. It has windows to let light in when sunny but it is pretty dark most days, especially when raining. Their sushi is amazing and they are worth the trip. Food is expensive so expect to spend $20 a piece.
I wanted to try the pho but heard they add the ingredients for u. Which is very strange.
We went there for dinner. The place was a little cold and very dark. Huge menu and a lot of options. We ordered 2 beef pho, taste of china app, sexy mama roll and spicy salmon roll. Everything was hot and fresh. All the food was good. Only thing is that the pho noodles came out soggy and the broth needed a little more seasoning. They don't have any traditional pho sauce available and all vegetables come on the pho. Overall a decent place to eat if you want both Thai and Japanese food.
Took a while to get seated and even longer to get our food. I ordered a bowl of pho, chicken strips and a crispy red snapper in curry. The only dishes that was good is the chicken strip. I was expecting bean sprout, spices and fish sauce to add to the pho. The display of the fish was rather dull with peas and carrots. I would give a 1 star for taste. Sorry but that's how I feel about eating at this restaurant.
The real thing! A Mason City gem
Had the beef pho; great taste well portioned visited in-between lunch and supper only single waiter that seemed to be rushed a bit in my opinion the prices on the menu for me a smidge on the high side but to each their own as they say.
They have so many great dishes here. Love the Bangkok chicken, pineapple rice, and Pad Thai!!
I gave it 4 because of consistency otherwise fire place the Angel wings are delicious. The pho could use some work it's hit and miss really something must be done differently. But sushi is fire. I get the bomberman roll fried. Super good.
Amazing Tempura. We enjoyed the Mustang roll and it was delicious.
Our waitress was fast and friendly.
The food was incredible!!! Our service exemplary!!! Our Waiter Joseph was extremely helpful great personality !! And we are looking very forward to our next trip thru Mason city and our next meal at your great establishment !!!
Google reviews were 4.5 stars, so my fiancé and I were expecting some super fantastic food. The shrimp/veggie tempura app was really good and super fresh. I ordered fried rice and my fiancé ordered something with a strange name. Both were good but very bland. We were a little disappointed. Service was awesome though.
Our waitress Courtney was superb and so friendly, and the food was amazing, we had the red curry with jasmine rice and chicken teriyaki, a Thai iced tea and also a plate of sashimi, everything was so so yummy!
Amazing place to eat lunch the sushi was the best in town my favorite was the Philadelphia omg!!!!! Sooo prefect and they have amazing bento boxes that have the perfect amount of rice and teriyaki chicken with more sushi 🍣 😋 😍
Literally THEE BEST restaurant in all of Mason City! I don't even typically like oriental foods and I cleared my plate! The atmosphere was really nice too!
I did not get to eat here. They had reservations with an empty restaurant at 12 PM. We were told to leave if not seated where they told us to. We decided to leave and left. We wish they were like in Year 2020 when I visited last.
I had the beef pho and house salad. Very good pho. Maybe more veggies would have been nice, but great tasting broth. The salad was a little heavy on dressing, kinda soupy at the bottom. The waitress was very accommodating to my questions and substitutions. Prices were not bad, maybe a little high for Mason City. But the food was great.
Value for money is awesome. Price and quantity is good. Food tastes excellent. Place needs a face lift however
Young lady server was the highlight of our visit here, she was so friendly and attentive. Spring rolls were yummy but the coconut soup with chicken seemed like it was straight coconut milk with no depth of flavor. Sadly, the red chicken curry seemed like it was straight coconut milk plus a dash of heat, also no depth of flavor. Husband got a spicy seafood ramen for $17 and said the seafood was chewy, broth was rather bland and not "2 out of 3 chilies" (as was noted on the menu) and was surprised at the sweet noodles. We weren't sure if the noodles were supposed to be sweet? Regardless, I was sad to have spent almost $50 on what surely couldn't have represented the best of Thai cuisine.
This was such a great place to eat. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful as well. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, which everyone at the table agreed was delicious. My daughter had the Togatsu Ramen and my son in law the Three Flavor Fish (Thai hot). Everyone loved what they got. The portion sizes were great, the food was hot and tasty. I would highly recommend this place. If I get back to Mason City it is where I am eating!
Looking for sushi and sake in a town I didn't expect to find it in. Yet, here they are, only a 5 minute walk from my hotel! 🔥
Got the Snapper Curry to go... subbed out veggies... wow it was so good. Some of the best Thai food ive ever had. Staff was great. Atmosphere was not the best, but the food was so awesome.
Pho Brisket to me is a 2.9/5
Spiciest roll i would give it a 4/5 rice was a bit wet.
Overall not a bad place.
I do feel the place needs more love saw some spider web and restroom needs more love. Overall I still would not mind eating again.
Excellent as usual
Very cute place. Great vibes. Servers were chill and kind. Food was delightful! Definitely will have to return.
Wonderful suprise. From the atmosphere to the quality of cuisine. Top shelf.
Place is dark and dirty. Food is so, so. $37 for lunch, two people. Won't go back.
I have fallen in love with Sushi. My husband had never tried it until we came here and now he loves it too. Good service.
The pho was amazing! Try the sexy mama sushi roll !!
We love this place! Always delicious with great friendly service and the ambiance is lovely.
When Mieu is there, I order off-menu (Larb Gai), which is fantastic. They also have the best Pa-Nang curry I've had.
Food is so good but the service is always a little slow. Only go if you have plenty of time.
Always has great Sushi. Our kids love going here with us.
Best Thai food we've had in years.
Great food and a lot of variety. I had sushi and hubs had pork teriyaki bowl. It was all very good.
We love the sushi!!!
Delicious Thai cuisine! Friendly staff
I brought my Dad for Father's Day dinner. The food was amazing. I will be 100% honest with you... this was the BEST service I've ever had in Mason City. Can't wait to go back
The sushi was the bomb!
I love everything about this place! I wish I lived closer. The green curry and the pad see ew are always amazing.
Friendly service, & amazing crab rangoon. I had the pepper steak and it was so good! Pad thai with chicken is my normal go to but I wanted to try something new. I'm never disappointed!
My goodness. This was the best experience at a restaurant I’ve ever had, and if you’ve seen my previous reviews, you know that means something. THE SERVERS male and female were the KINDEST most INVITING people I’ve ever come across. They answered all my questions and made me feel not so out of place even though I had never been there before. Never tried sushi until this place, and it was the MOST DELICIOUS and decadent think I’ve tasted ever. Thank you Thai Bistro for an awesome experience! I will refer you to ALL my friends!
Excellent food. Eat here! Really.
A very nice place right in downtown Mason City with darn good Thai food! We got red curry (rated as spicy in the menu but it wasn't really, just had nice flavor) and drunken noodles and enjoyed both. Their crab Rangoon had actual crab meat and scallions in it too, which made for a pleasant surprise! Nice atmosphere and not super busy so food came out quickly.
The octopus was absolutely delicious!
Friendly staff and food is not only delicious but displayed beautifully as well.
I loved the food
Best sushi in 100 miles minimum.
The food here is amazing but pricey. I would recommend adding some spice to each dish to really bring it out.
I will always recommend this establishment. The prices are a little high, but it’s the quality you’re paying for.
Attempted to have lunch on President's day 2023....walked in approximately 11:50am and were immediately seated--only 3 other tables in the entire restaurant are occupied. Good start....right??Hostess was pleasant but not overly interactive or informative. We're seated and looking over the menu for the first few minutes, expecting to see the lunch options. Since the hostess only gave us a dinner menu, we are left guessing that there's no lunch menu due to the holiday?? Okay....no biggie. We check out the menu some more and have a question or two. We see a couple waitstaff going back and forth.....but none make any effort to make eye contact, bring waters, take a drink order, or even communicate that they'd be with us shortly. 10 minutes later....only the same 3 tables are occupied. Still no word or signal from any waitstaff, still no water or drinks... Another 5 minutes later....no change. We start discussing other options and eventually left. First time dining in....carryout has been pretty good previously. Disappointed for sure......but our expectation when going to any restaurant, even fast food, is that you are at least acknowledged, especially so when there isn't much of a crowd and a gratuity is expected.🙄
Lindo lugar, rico Sushi 🍣
Curry was delicious
Half finished interior. Sushi tasted like they pulled it out of the fridge.
Very nice Staff. Typical Iowan friendliness and hospitality.
Excellent service and great food.
Was here for work. Had to stop by two nights in a row because the Phad Thai was so good! They have gluten free options and to go was good the second night as well
Wasn't great. Wasn't horrible. Just average.
I've written a reviews before but I absolutely love the fast fresh options here.
Excellent bubble tea!
Great food and great service!!
This was the first time eating there. It turned out to be very very good. I was so surprised. The Crab Rangoon was better than any I have ever had. We will be going back. It has a much better atmosphere then most restaurants in the area.
This is the best Thai food I've ever had in my life. Hands down. Not only was the food amazing, the service was top notch. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!!!
If you love sushi , you will love this place. I got the box lunch , fabulous!
Fabulous food. The service needs a little attention. And I mean a little.
We went there to treat my niece to sushi for her birthday. The wait staff were friendly and dinner was made quickly and was delicious. Quite a varied menu and the business hours are not conventional.
This is the Rolls Royce of sushi, and their other stuff has an interesting and elegant taste! They are truly artists!
I found it really tasty and the service was excellent. They do a Bento lunch with a good variety of foods for not a lot of money. My dining partner said his food was good, but not as spicy as he would have liked. Our theory is that they default to making things on the mild side, so you if you're a heat person you might see if they can add a little.
Well prepared and tasty food. I had the mixed fish platter. With scallops, shrimp and mussels
I had "Drunken noodles" a couple of the noodles were not quite done but everything was delicious! Cucumber salad was fabulous!!!
The service was incredible, and the food was delicious 😋
Excellent sushi
Edible.
I ordered a ramen dish, and it wasn’t ramen, it was noodles in a bowl. When asked to comp it due to me not liking it. The owner only agreed on 50% off the dish.
So basically if you’re looking for good ramen. Don’t come here.
Loved it. New to the sushi world but this was phenomenal. Definitely making this a regular spot. Atmosphere and hospitality of the waitress where outstanding.
Always amazing
Good service. Good food. A bit pricey.
Delicious food and good service
Owner amazing, food amazing, the best Thai food I've ever had.
I'm not sure if you can really go wrong with the food here. I've tried a number of entrees and a most of sushi, all were wonderful!
We arrived at 9:40 p.m. thinking we could order dinner till 10 p.m. cause that's the hours posted on their entry door. But was told the kitchen was closed and we would be welcome to come back tomorrow, 2 they open at noon. We declined that invitation as it's a 90 mile drive round trip.
incredible food Great staff
Amazing food, personable staff, wonderful environment. Needs a deep cleaning, but don't let that prevent you from experiencing it.
Have been in a few times when we are in town. Girlfriend loves coming in and is a huge fan of the sushi. I've tried her dishes and both have been good. The dishes I've tried have also been good. Prices seem fair for what you're getting. A little extra declutter and cleaning would make the experience even better.
Courteous staff. Excellent selection. Great flavors.
Disgusting. Chicken wings were burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. Noodles were gummy. Some of the ingredients were cold, so I know they pulled this mess out of the freezer and microwaved it.
I know good Thai food and this ain't it.
Amazing food as per usual! The food was out very quickly as well ❤️😊
Not exactly what I ordered. I would have actually paid more if I got what I paid for. They shorted me 3 pieces of sashimi for one and 7 of the pieces they gave me aren't nagiri because they are imitation crab and cooked shrimp. Also one of the pieces of sushi is another long piece of imitation crab laid on top of the rice. At almost $90, I feel they kinda just phoned it in. They're food is delicious and I've ordered from them before but this was a real letdown. I tried calling the restaurant but after 3 tries and 5 rings later, the call just disconnects each time. Extremely disappointing. Hopefully they do better next time. Maybe they didn't care because it was a delivery.
Amazing place! Best sushi I've ever had hands down, a hidden gem for sure! The Bang Bang and Super Crab rolls are my favorites but every one I've tried has been good, also the crab rangoons are amazing.
