First timer here: this place was SO good! We came on New Years Day for lunch and our service was quick! The menu has so many great options it took a while for us to decide on what to get! Each meal was so good! You also are able to add heat to your dish if you’d like on a scale of 1-6. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great Thai or Japanese restaurant! Probably the best orange chicken I’ve ever had anywhere!

Soup was a little salty but equally satisfying. Loved the cucumber salad. Discovered ell sauce is made with peanuts. Sauce for the sweet and sour tasted similar to a sweet bbq sauce. Yellow Curry was both fulfilling and colorful.

I don't think I could rave more about this place!! The food was AMAZING! I got the yellow curry fried rice and it was huge! Tasted so fresh and the cucumber salad with it was so good! I asked the waitress for a fruity cocktail recommendation and she said the Thai Orange Mule would be the perfect fruity drink. She wasn't wrong. I've had a lot of mules iny life and that was the best. Will absolutely be back!

I felt like our bill was way too expensive. We got takeout and when we got home to eat, and that’s when I realized why our bill was so high. They decided to throw in a surprise of COCKROACHES. It was kind of them to try and make our meal super special and give us some free things on the side, just wish it wasn’t something that crawls and infests our whole meal. I got door dash angry rice and asked for extra sauce. When it got here there was zero sauce on it. I got a bunch of bland, warm vegetables. I called the restaurant and they directed me to door dash. Their solution for the problem was $3 for an $18 dish. I used to like this place a lot, how is it possible to forget the sauce????

Do you close at 1:45 or 2:00pm ??? I work in sales near here and get many people ask me where is a good place to eat lunch in this area. I will NEVER suggest DeRice ever again, Rolling Wok is not much further and eager to take my money. I will refer people to them for now on. Doing things like this will put you out of business

I recently ordered takeout from De Rice in Johnston, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the experience! The food was nothing short of exceptional. I tried both the Thai Fried Rice and the Drunken Noodles, and each dish was bursting with authentic flavors that truly impressed me.

The Thai Fried Rice was cooked to perfection, with a delightful mix of fresh vegetables and just the right amount of seasoning. It had a wonderful balance of flavors, and each bite was incredibly satisfying. The portion size was generous, making it a great value for the price.

The Drunken Noodles, on the other hand, were a true highlight. Food is always consistently good. Like the outdoor patio. Something for everyone on the menu. Sushi is very fresh. This is a “weeknight “ dining place for us. Not fancy but solid options.

Got the basil fried rice which was pretty good though very black pepper-y. Also had some veggie sushi which was decent. Sparse vegetarian/vegan options—some of the fried rice and a few veggie sushi rolls. All of the curries and stir fries can be ordered with tofu but have meat/fish in the sauce. They do have outdoor seating.

Our waitress was fabulous. We asked for her recommendations since the menu was extensive and we both LOVED each entree. The food was tasty with just enough spice. We will definitely be back and may have just found our new favorite Chinese/Japanese/Thai restaurant. Thanks for making it a great Father's Day.

I’ve only had to go which usually means the food is less amazing than it would be in person. And it’s still amazing even to go.

But they have everything I love when it comes to Asian (Chinese, Japanese, and Thai) that I cannot find at many other places. My go to order has now become: Singapore Noodles (aka Singapore Mai Fun), Pad Woon Sen (usually I have to get pork other places but even their chicken is flavorful) and their Iowa roll (it’s amazing). I haven’t had anything bad yet and I’ve now ordered 5x.

I think the best Asian I have had in the Des Moines area. The wait staff is truly amazing.

Plated items do not look like pictures. Steamed veggies are cold. Chicken was clearly frozen tempura. Veggies are clearly from a frozen bag. Fried rice was wet.

I go here for their pad Thai and the sushi is good! If you're going to get saki just get a bottle.

My fiancé found lipstick on her glass after starting to drink(fiancé didn’t have on makeup) Waitress acted like it was no big deal but got her a new one. I ordered the pumpkin appetizer which turned out to be subpar (but was our first time ordering it so gave it up to trying new things). She really liked the sushi she got. I got noodles which were super bland.

Looking for good papaya salad. New place for me. I got it without snow peas and on the side peanuts. This one was fine not my desire flavor. Its lacking shrimp paste, crab paste and padek. Stronger in lime, fish sauce, garlic and sugar. I got level 5 out of 6. After 5 forkful in my mouth my nose started to run and eyes got tears. I will come back for and try everything else.

Went when it wasn’t busy at all but food took an unreal amount of time (45 minutes) and appetizers, entrees, and soup were all served together and cold. Dishes were seriously lackluster and the sever seemed uncomfortable and most likely aware we weren’t happy. We were given 15% off our total when I asked if they could offer anything. But the poor food and service were not acknowledged until I brought it up first. Had to grab our own boxes after telling the server we wanted some. The cover song radio only made everything so much more unbearable! Won’t be back.

Best food in Des Moines, great priced lunch specials, my go to place for lunch for the past 3 years

This is a great spot to get some Thai food, but also some sushi, too! I got the Godzilla roll, which was very good and looked very pretty. Also, the pad thai here is really good! I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here.

I discovered De Rice during the height of the Pandemic (late 2020) as I wanted to support local business and had just moved across country... I've been hooked ever since! Their food is absolutely OUTSTANDING, so much so, I've got the whole family hooked - adults and kids! Everything is so full of flavor, from the rice dishes, to the sushi rolls, the appetizers and the soups! BEST ASIAN FOOD IN ALL OF IOWA!!!

Not to mention, the staff is very nice, their food quality is amazingly consistent and their prices are more than fair. I think through this all, even with rising grocery and supply costs, they've only raised the dinner prices by a dollar and lunch has stayed consistent for most.

They are great at accommodating dietary restrictions and customizations too!

The food was the best part. Ordered mango delight with fried rice 🍚 and 🍤 shrimp. My boyfriend and I were together for Valentines Day. We had Crab Rangoon for the Appetizer. They were nice and crispy. He had a beef dish with rice. Can't remember which one. Beef and Broccoli 🥦 I think. We both thought our dishes were delicious. I also ordered Saki and an Appletini. Which were also good. The waitress did great despite how busy it was and they did seem a little short for employees perhaps or maybe it was just really busy. They had to go orders too. The price is about average for Japanese and Sushi. But worth the price. We will come back again.

Placed an order to go and after waiting 1.5 hours called in to check on it. The person couldn’t hear us on the other end. Tried from 3 phones. They called me back thinking I wanted to place an order and when I said no I wanted to know where my order was they hung up on me. Tried calling back and they wouldn’t pick up. When went to pick it up they got our order wrong and had to wait another 20-25 minutes after waiting for 1 hour 45 minutes for our original order. When we got it the order was wrong.

This will be my last order from them. Not only because of this, but because of the time we ordered before via delivery and they forgot to give them all of our food. We called in and they told us it was sitting there and we could come and pick it up.

We order sushi sometimes twice a week. Never had this problem with Wasabi or Waterfront.

Nice place to catch a game. Food is okay at best. The rice felt moist but tasted dry showing it wasn’t cooked right on both our sushi and fried rice. Asked for no peppers on our drunken noodles and they forgot. Angry Catfish wasn’t flavorful and was overwhelmed by the chili oil. Our server was wonderful, empathetic, and an absolute delight.

Worked in the Urbandale area for 4 months for work, I ate this place almost every single day. De Rice is the bomb. My date and I were looking for a restaurant that had good sushi and salads, and this hit the spot! I had a couple rolls and the pad thai, and both were excellent! She had the papaya salad, and was impressed. The service was really friendly, and our food came out really quick. I would recommend De Rice to anyone looking for a great meal and better service!

We usually enjoy De Rice and go there often with our friends. Wednesday night we invited two out-of-town guests. The food was not up to par! The Healthy Fried Rice (see photos) did not have pumpkin, corn, lima beans (or edamame), chopped cilantro or green onions. As you can see from photos there is also no chicken. Also no garnish of cucumber or lime wedge. It was also fairly greasy. In the Crispy Honey Chicken dish, the pieces of chicken were overly breaded, and at least three of the larger pieces were breading only, no chicken. It was served with raw broccoli (not steamed) and no carrots. My Pad Woon Sen had no egg, the chicken was in a pile underneath the noodles, and the asparagus were stems only and very tough. I did not see any napa cabbage but there might have been a few pieces. Again, it was greasy though I asked for low oil. One guest did enjoy his Basil dish. This was a bummer. We'll try somewhere else next time.

The sushi is fantastic here. It’s fresh and they have so many options. The servers are delightful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. There is a Japanese inspired mural behind the sushi counter and another Thai inspired mural of the Yak (the mythological giant).

Very nice place and very nice staff except for one occasion as me and friends were leaving one of our friends didn’t tip bc they were low on money but the rest of us tipped. So the waitress that had taken a considerable amount of time just to get water for us was mad that she didn’t tip and thought it was acceptable to try and guilt trip her over her not tipping. I don’t remember the waitress’s name but she was blonde I believe. I believe waiters and waitresses should be tipped especially if they do a good job and are nice but nobody has to tip if they don’t want to. We are not obligated to tip and if you’re not making ends meet at your job then it might be a good idea to look for a new one. I will be dining here again though. Very delicious sushi.

The food is always great no matter if we get it to-go or if we eat at the restaurant. It’s one of my favorite restaurants. We live about 30 minutes away, but will drive to go here and it never disappoints.

A clone of cool basil, it's likely owned by the same people. Great menu, I haven't had a bad meal here. I really liked the sushi; huge selection to choose from. The mango salad is great especially if you add some heat to it. Keep in mind, a two one day may be different from a two the next day but usually I can't go wrong with the amount of spice if I say a two. It's a good place for lunch as well

De Rice has a great atmosphere, kind of darker inside with nice lighting. We had the pineapple rice which had a great mix of flavors and the Korean rice that had a good spice kick even at a level 2. The fried tofu add on was also nice and crispy.
