I was in Iowa craving Thai food and walked 20 minutes in the snow to get to this place
but it was absolutely worth it.
The food was amazing, with a great selection on the menu, and the Thai tea was really good.

The staff were nice, and the overall experience was fantastic. I loved the food and would definitely come back

There was what appeared to be a rose stem and thorn in the soup: it was hard and dangerous (see picture). When I showed it to the waiter, he took it and left without apologizing. Then several things went wrong with the order. We asked for a hot tea but what they served us was just lukewarm, and we asked for it to be warmed up. Again, no apologies. Then the salad (pictured) was very hot spicy whereas I had asked for level 1. The waiter denied it was too spicy. Finally, the Tom Yum soup wasn’t the kind I had ordered. The place was almost empty which contrasted with the way it was 10 years ago, but we now understand why. Poor service, careless kitchen, customer comes last. We ended up paying over $40 for something we didn’t eat much of.

Thai Spice is one, if not the best place to eat in Iowa City. Some friends took us there more than a year ago and we wouldn’t mind going every week. Their Tom Yom soup is amazing. Alex is an amazing host!

First time to this establishment. Had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious. The wait staff friendly. The atmosphere relaxing. This is a small restaurant so the seating is limited. But we were seated right away. We arrived at 6:45 p.m. Beer and wine are served but we opted for water. I ordered the fish cake appetizer. 4 on a plate. It was delicious. My friend ordered Pad Thai with beef and I had the Crabmeat with curry and vegetables. Mine came with white rice. Both dishes were excellent. We ate as much as we could and brought home the leftovers. I highly recommend this place. It was a little hard to find but worth finding.

Thai Spice is one of my favorite places to eat. I’ve tried different dishes, but man I can’t get over the green curry.

The owner is a lovely hard working lady entirely committed to making the place amazing.

I love Thai food and have been a loyal customer of Thai Spice for years. Things have changed for the worse. My usual dishes are no longer spicy. The Tom Kha Gai had no mushrooms! The lap had huge chunks of onion. My menu was dirty. I’m so heartbroken to loose one of my go to restaurants. Please do better.

The BEST food, but they cannot handle being busy.

If you plan on ordering during a busy time, add 20 minutes to whatever they tell you over the phone. Good food, still worth the wait.

Thai Spice is my favorite Thai food! I love the yellow and red curries and the Pad Thai. The interior of the restaurant is welcoming and it's a great place to go for authentic Thai cuisine.

Expensive, but good. I’m a Thai food addict and I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Thailand four times, so I have some experience in these parts. I’ve eaten at Thai Spice a dozen times and everything I’ve had was pretty good and authentic, but their prices are outrageous. The table service is alright, except for Amanda, who is a joy to behold. The way she glides around the room is poetry in motion. She flows like Jay-Z. I’ll go to Thai Flavors more often and pray for more Thai restaurants in the area. Also, good luck finding an updated menu on-line.

We love eating here when we're in town! It's spring break and we were the only table on a Saturday noon - the only time they haven't been bustling! The service staff were pleasant and attentive. I don't remember the name of the dish but it was number 10 and had crispy tofu with veggies in a spicy brown sauce with rice - my current favorite! We also had a hot and spicy number 12 which was delicious. The restaurant appears to be clean and well cared for.

I know others that recommend this place. I had the Pad Thai and have definitely had better. Maybe this was just a different interpretation, but if that is the dish I wanted, I would not return. Would consider trying other dishes from here though. I know others that like the yellow curry.

Service was very friendly, atmosphere and decoration were very clean and intriguing. Food was tasty and fresh.. The khi mao was sweeter than in accustomed to but it had great flavor and was cooked very well. I asked for Thai hot and got a good level of spice but it wasn't as spicy as I'd preferred but the food was prepared well and had great flavor.

First time we came here, we ended up leaving because we waited 20+ minutes to be waited on. Second time we had to ask to order 2 times and had to wait 20-25 mins for someone to come. Waiting another 40 minutes for food. Really unfortunate.

We ordered our dinner to be delivered. Our meals were delivered on time and still hot when we opened them. We ordered a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes . There were no leftovers for next day lunches..

My partner and I love this restaurant every time we go. Today the pad Thai was a little off, but the curry was amazing. Service was slow but at no fault of the single server working. She was wonderful. We hsve never had a bad experience. Highly recommend.

We get takeout from Thai Spice on a regular basis, never disappointed! Prepared quickly, except for during very busy hours. I eat gluten free and love their fried rice.

Outstanding coconut curry soups. I've eaten here every few months in the past dozen years. Consistent quality thai, nothing amazing, but I've never been dissatisfied. Could use an update of the menu and interior, but I have no plans of stopping my visits.

Seafood Thom Yung soup was excellent. Large bowel for $22 + tax and tip. Attentive wait staff. Good meal and more for home. Thanks a lot.

Visited tonight for dinner after rave reviews from multiple people. We were promptly seated at 6 PM, given waters, and our order taken. There were 6 other people in the dining area when we were seated. Our appetizer was served within minutes, but we then waited nearly 50 minutes for our entrees. In the 50 minutes we waited, another handful of patrons were seated and served their meals. Some finished their meals while we continued to wait. Countless take out orders were packaged and picked up.

After being in the restaurant for an hour without our entrees, we asked for them to be packed to go. In the meanwhile, our check was delivered - we were told it would be another few minutes for our food. I inquired with the lovely wait staff if this was typical - I was assured it was not. The wait staff worked hard the entire time and are the sole asset to this restaurant.

We finally received our entrees packed to go and left hangry 70 minutes after we arrived. We got home and were disappointed with the food which was underwhelming in flavor despite being large in size. Safe to say we won’t be back, or recommending this place to anyone.

When we received our bill we noticed we were being overcharged for a couple of our dishes and that the prices on the bill were different than the prices listed on the menu. The kind server pointed out that there is a disclaimer printed on the menu notifying that their menu prices are subject to change without prior notice. Be warned that they can charge whatever they see fit, regardless of the listed menu price. You may be expecting to pay $11, as per the listed menu price, but who knows maybe they will charge $20. Doesn't seem like a very honest business practice to me.

Excellent food. A good quiet stop. Food portions are great and the taste is excellent.

It's a nice place for short business meetings and creating memories with your spouse. The food is as spicy as I want. I always recommend Thai Spice.

The food was absolutely amazing. There were plenty of options, all well seasoned. I loved the spice level. My overall score hinged on the fact that there were tons of hairs in my food that couldn't have been from myself or anyone at my table. It made me sad that the food was so good but then all that hair.

The flavors didn't blend smoothly to create an authentic Thai taste. It was a mix of spice and sweetness but didn't hit the right notes :( Disappointed! But an A for service and ambience 🙂

ALWAYS delicious. Love me a #3!! The lunch menu is also quite well priced and the salad/dressing is fresh and tasty leading into a good portioned meal. Weekdays they have a cheaper/abbreviated lunch menu and Saturdays they have the salad but regular dinner menu available.

Excellent food and great atmosphere. Wait staff very friendly and helpful assisting us at selecting meal choices. Great options for vegetarian dishes too. We both enjoyed Thai Spice restaurant a lot.

Best thai food i’ve ever had!

I love this place but today I got papaya salad and it was packaged sideways. All the liquid contents spilled out and mad a mess. Not too happy but I always love their food.

I really enjoyed my visit to Thai Spice. They don't de-tail the shrimp and I personally was very horrified that I didn't notice it until after taking an entire mouthful with a single shrimp underneath, but that was more of a me problem than anything! Parking is good, and the prices are really nice. It's sort of "fancy" looking, and quite Thai, which I loved about it. I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Had a great experience and a delicious meal here tonight. I ordered the Pad Khi Mao. The noodles and sauce were great, and it tasted very good. It had a nice savory flavor, with just a little bit of sweetness. My fiance ordered the Stir fried Crabmeat with Curry. The dish was amazing, and so rich. They use real crab meat, and it comes with a side of rice to serve it on. My son ordered the the seafood hot plate, and I would highly recommend that. The red curry sauce was my favorite sauce I tried, and it was absolutely loaded with sea food. It also comes with a side of rice to serve it on. The waitress was very helpful and informative, which made the experience so much better. I'm very happy that we chose to eat here, and I will definitely come back next time I'm in Iowa City.

This is by far the best Thai restauraunt in the cedar rapids/iowa city area. I wish I could make it to Iowa City more often to enjoy the lovely service and magnificent food here at Thai Spice. If its available, i highly reccomend the red curry with duck. I look forward to trying other menu items, but this one is so good I have a hard time branching out. Thank you, Thai Spice!

First time trying Thai food. If I'm honest, I'm not a huge fan of the food itself, but really like my experience with this restaurant. Clean, very welcoming, traditional cultural decor. Waitress was polite, food was served quickly, fresh & hot. Some items weren't as spicy as I had expected, but the waitress did bring out different seasonings to pump up the spice. Thai chicken wings and crab Rangoon were my absolute favorites. Awesome experience.

Was pretty meh! I asked for a spice level of 8 and probably received a 5. Really slow except carryout, so the atmosphere was lacking. The young lady gave excellent service and was much polite.

This tucked away restaurant is so cute inside, it makes the perfect date destination. When you enter the aroma of wonderfully prepared food is amazing.

We had three dishes, a yellow tofu curry, a hot pot and a spicy chicken salad.
All of them were in the 15 dollar range.
We ate family style which I recommend so everyone can try all of the wonderful distinctive flavors. You will enjoy your experience so much more. The food is fantastic. Each dish was seasoned perfectly. The yellow curry had amazingly flavorful tofu and was spicy without covering all the other flavors.
Served with jasmine rice that was so fragrant and fresh it could be a meal on its own. The spicy chopped salad was mostly chicken, so don't confuse this with a rabbit food light weight. Beautifully seasoned and generously proportioned, this is filling with feeling heavy. The hot pot was an impressive variety of vegetables, mushrooms and meat. Thick and rich but not overwhelming. It is the perfect thing for a cold evening or when you crave some comfort food.
The summer evening crowd was light but I would expect that once classes start the college kid could keep this place busy.
This is one of those restaurants that should be on everyone's ones must try list.

I ordered Thai spice for takeout on a Saturday evening. When I arrived to pick up my order, the restaurant wasn't busy and there was plenty or parking. The decor in this restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance is superb. There are public restrooms available. I ordered pad Thai noodles and yellow curry. The curry was delicious, though, I felt the portion size was a bit small for the price. The Thai noodles were good, but a bit bland, however it was a very generous portion and fed two adults. The food was hot and cooked well and was plenty for my husband and I. Even though I believe the curry is overpriced, I would like to have it again because it was very good.

Most definitely my favorite Thai place in the Iowa City area. Their beef pad Thai is my go to, level 5 only! Sometimes I think the cooks like to see how much spice tolerance I have haha. There definitely times it seems spicer than normal, but I love it! I am always ordering takeout, which is so easy to do, and the servers are very friendly when I pick up my order. If you're looking for a Thai place, I promise you, this is it.

My wife and I have been happy with this restaurant every time we have gone. Curry with pineapple dish has choices but we stick with seafood. To die for!! #31 is a new favorite.

I just left a raving review as I placed my pick up order to bring home and enjoy with my sick daughter. I have changed that review!
Whenever I have visited this establishment it has been superb. UNTIL NOW! Is it just because I took it home the order was skimped on? Barely any sauce or spice of any kind on the Pad Thai. Salads in with hot food wilting them immediately. Yum, hot iceberg lettuce. Now I have to toddle myself back down to the restaurant and pick up a remedied version of what we wanted to eat an hour ago. Now my paltry portion of curry is cold too. I could not be more disappointed with this experience and I will take my business to Thai Flavors downtown from now on. So sad.

Update. Now prices have raised and smaller portions also no salad. Won’t be back and won’t encourage friends or family to eat here. Blue Elephant in Coralville is superb!!! Great taste and no nit-picking ! Excellent flavors too!!!

I had the Pad Thai spice lvl 5 (1 to 5) with chicken satay. I was the first to arrive at lunch. Tasted great! Spice lvl was perfect. I highly recommend this little nugget when in Iowa City.

Best Thai food!

Excellent food and service

A business mess. They have multiple different open times listed online. They also have multiple menus, some of which are inaccurate and there’s no way to tell which menu is right. They had some kind of mess up with their computers, and they couldn’t accept my credit card. I had to go to the bank to bring cash instead. I have yet to try the food, I wrote this while I was leaving so I haven’t factored in the quality of the food. Overall, a frustrating experience.

The reason I am leaving a 1 star review is due to their service. A group of friends and I went to Thai Spice last evening at 8:45pm for dinner. We were seated at a table and given menus. After we ordered each of our drinks the male server would sigh. He came back to ask for our food order and we politely asked for a few more minutes. The server walked away and we heard him say loud enough while walking into the kitchen “we close at 9pm”. When we arrived at the restaurant the sign said open and google said they were open until 10pm. We would have liked the restaurant staff to have informed us they closed at 9:00pm before we sat down so we could have avoided the unpleasant experience. We apologized as we walked out letting the restaurant staff know we thought they closed at 10.

Oh WOW WOW WOW. MY first time here. it was absolutely amazing

Food is fine. The wait time was over an hour while we were sitting down waiting for the food. There were literally dozens of carry out orders that happened in that hour. We don’t live in Iowa City and will not be using the carry out service. This means when we come in town once a week we will certainly not be coming to wait this long again. Travelers, be aware.

This food touches my soul. I genuinely don’t know what I would do if this place wasn’t around. Some of my favorite dishes are: Shrimp Satay, egg rolls, beef broccoli in oyster sauce with mushrooms, Chicken Larp, Tom Yum Kung, and the red or green curry.

Very little gluten free selections. Only 3 on the menu that I saw. Had the pad thai, it was good. My husband always gets the duck curry because the eggplant in it is always cooked so well.

Delicious food. All dishes were great. Pad Thai, Seafood Curry, Eggplant w Oyster Sauce, and Mango Sticky Rice.
The kitchen does close by approx 8pm, but they let us stay quite a while longer.

We ordered the drunken noodles, curry duck, and had the appetizer shrimp rolls. Y'all, everything was fresh and delicious! We're from down south so we know all about great food! We will definitely be back. The server was also very friendly and attentive.

Waitress was friendly but that's about it. There were only two other customers at tables aside from ours and it took 45 minutes to get our food and it was just ok. Had to use salt to get flavor on my pad thai.

Amazingly good, i got the #5 beef or shrimp and say turn up the heat (spicy). And the acho rolls are my fav cant get enough of those.

Worth the visit! Yesterday, my wife and I visited Iowa City for the first time. She had a big function, I had to film a speech. Our highlight of the trip was neither. It was Thai Spice- an incredible blend of flavors in the Red Curry and sumptuous Thai BBQ that made our day and will bring us back from our Waterloo home again soon!

Some of the best Thai I've had in the Midwest. Every dish I've tried has been great, and I keep coming back for repeat carry-out. Polite staff, that is quick and helpful. Stop in, it's worth a visit!

Amazing food with great ambience. Love their pineapple curry and the seasonal mango sticky rice.

I've been ordering their Yellow Curry for over 10yrs, and it has always been perfectly delicious.

The eggplant stir-fry is to die for. So good. I got it with the soy sauce instead of the oyster sauce. Very cool that they are flexible in that regard. Tofu is optional, with an extra fee if you get the tofu. I've had both with and without tofu, and both are excellent. I like that their portions are generous as well, which really puts this into five-star territory. Lots of flavorful eggplant, with a wonderful mix of other herbs and spices. Addictive - this dish definitely calls to me.

This place has the best green curry I've ever had!!! The portions are ample, the service was great and attentive, and the wait time was decent. Everything that we ordered has its own unique taste and flavor. I genuinely enjoyed everything. Price is a tad high for your Thai food but this is Iowa City after all..

I would give it 5 stars but I only have 2 recommendations:

1) please dim the lights a little bit. It's so extremely bright that's its almost impossible to read the menu due to the reflective plastic it's in.

2) Pad Thai - it's the heart of Thai cousine. I can almost guarantee that it's the first thing that Americans think about then they what Thai food. Surprisingly, this was my least favorite of all the things we ordered. The noodles were dry, hard, and very sticky. The sauce was also dry and I could barely taste it.

Very minor changes and this place, in my opinion, could easily be the best Thai place in town.

Really nice Thai restaurant. I went here while stopping by in Iowa City to meet up with a friend. The restaurant was very clean and set up well and the staff was very attentive. The food was good and there was a wide selection. I really enjoyed the pineapple fried rice there and it was pretty fresh. My friend enjoyed his meal as well and we had no complaints. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Iowa City area.

Thai spice is arguably one of the best restaurants in Iowa City, food and service is amazing! I had the crispy pork with kale, cold beef salad, and pork pineapple curry, all 10/10!

Got takeout on a Monday night and ordered the Pra-Rad-Prig, which is traditionally a whole fried snapper topped with a chili paste. What I received instead was what is best described as fish nuggets with a container of spicy soup. Definitely not how I've ever seen it served and very disappointing. My partner ordered the silver noodles which, while tasty, were served with enormous chunks of Roma tomato and other vegetables that were not tossed with the noodles very well, making the dish difficult to enjoy. The papaya salad was delicious but again accompanied by very large slices of Roma, cucumber, lettuce, and for some reason a sliver of cabbage with the stem attached. I didn't hate my meal, but I have certainly had much better Thai food in this city, and the food was definitely not worth the price.
