Simple eatery for familiar Thai fare like yellow curry & stir-fried noodles in an easygoing setup.
Went for dinner with a friend. It was busy. We were seated after a short wait. We ordered several dishes to share; crab ragoon, yellow curry with shrimp, cashew chicken, and another chicken dish with mushrooms and ginger. Everything was tasty. I really enjoyed the cashew chicken. The yellow curry had a nice flavor but was thinner than expected. I'll return to try other menu items.
This place has quickly became a favorite of mine. Everything i have tried has been absolutely delicious! The tom yum soup is a must have as well as the pineapple fried rice (I added chicken). Cute vibe for a little eat out action. My only complaint is hours are limited and I want to eat here 24/7
It took me almost 6 years to try out this place after moving to Cedar Falls, and I'm regretting not going there any sooner.
Fantastic service - it is the combination of table service and self-service. The staff is very warm and friendly.
Food - omg it is one of the best Thai foods I have ever had. It's perfectly spicy, very flavorful, and descent quantity for the money. I'll definitely be back to try out more items.
Ginger Thai has been wonderful for each of the few times we've gone! I've only had the Yellow Curry, Rangoons, and Pineapple Fried Rice at this point. While I don't have much experience with other Thai food, to me the food is superb. The fried rice was different than any I've had before and sooo good! I can't believe it took us so long to try this place!
We usually go in and order takeout, and the wait isn't too long (~10-15 min for curry and fried rice) considering the size of the place. I think the size is my only "complaint" about it. They deserve a bigger or at least better laid out space (same with Tata Yaya)!
We had a fantastic meal. It’s quaint nice inside.

Went here for the first time today for lunch. The staff were friendly and the food was fantastic. The quality of food is absolutely worth the price.

The yellow curry tastes like it came straight from the hands of God Almighty.
Amazing food made by dedicated people!!
Super food! The Penang curry with fish came with tasty chunks of fried fish and a delectable sauce with just the right amount of heat for someone who likes nose-watering but not hiccuping levels of spice. The basil chicken red curry was also lovely, with beautifully tasty leaves of fresh basil. Service was prompt and attentive in this tiny space (3 tables and a bar along the window). It was quiet, with pleasant music. Lots of people coming and going, but still an excellent experience for a weary traveler!
Great food. Drunken noodles are on point. Weird hours but if you catch them when they’re opened you’ll be glad you did
Their panang is awesome! Really enjoyed everything I ate here and the staff are great. Thanks!
AMAZING flavors and highly recommend the drunken noodles. Loved the overall atmosphere and great Thai restaurant.
I went to Ginger Thai for the first time today and had such a fantastic experience with such delicious food that I will definitely be back! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted warmly and asked if it was my first time there. When I said yes, the very nice woman behind the counter told me about the menu selections and helped recommend what to try when I couldn't decide between a few choices.
I tried the Pad Thai with chicken and Tom Kha soup with Thai sweet tea and very much enjoyed everything! The Pad Thai had yummy soft noodles in a sweet sauce with good sized pieces of chicken, egg, tofu, bean sprouts and ground peanut. Very delicious and flavorful. The Tom Khai soup was a coconut soup with large slices of onion, mushroom, broccoli, and carrots (I opted not to get a protein). It was in and of itself a meal as well and tasted wonderful with fresh vegetables. And the Thai sweet tea was amazing! Sweet and creamy with milk and so delicious!
The service was terrific and everyone was friendly and helpful. Plus, the portion sizes are quite large. I had enough food to take home for an additional meal.
There are some tables indoors and outside to eat in or you can order your food to go. I totally recommend Ginger Thai and look forward to returning for more delicious food and drink!!
Yellow curry is soooooooo good. Very rich and tasty. The staffs are very nice and helpful.
Food is not that good for the price they charge. The place is so small, like a bistro. You stand in line to order. We were there first, and they gave the outside table to the customer behind us who didn't order yet. We didn't have the choice where to sit. I will not recommend nor come back.
food was good but $16 for a very small portion of rice, two cucumbers slices, and a small portion of chicken…too expensive. maybe if more veggies or more rice is added i would be happy. the dish was also quite simple so i think these changes would improve it.
The food I had tasted okay, but there were three negatives with the experience: the pad see ew (written "pad see U" on the menu) did not have the wide noodles that should constitute the dish; egg, a staple ingredient in the dish, was only offered as an added charge (so I declined); and the price-to-portion ration was not what I witness in and around Chicago (there is relatively little food), so it is quite poor for a place like Cedar Falls.
We showed up with a party of 12 and they set up tables outside for us so we could all sit together. The food and service were outstanding.
Pad Thai was horrible.
Great tasting food! Generous portions! Friendly and fast service! So happy they're back open!!
Food was excellent and staff was friendly! We can't wait to go back!

Wonderful food. Quaint atmosphere. Affordable prices
Cancelled our order as we pulled up outside to pick up our food tonight. . . They said we could only have 1 of our 4 meals we ordered at 615.
Listen, no one better say anything negative about this place ever. These people are angels sent from above, that serve delicious food. It is hands down some of the best Thai food I've ever had and it's the best restaurant in the area. A lot of small restaurants didn't survive the Rona and I'm so happy they are still in business. If they weren't, I would have moved away from the area a long time ago. Thank you for serving up some of the best food I've ever had!!
I’ve probably ordered from here 100 times. It’s my families favorite place to eat. This is literally the best food I’ve ever had in my life. I’m not kidding you. I’ve tried everything and each and every time it’s delicious. If you’re a tofu skeptic, try anything on the menu with tofu. It’s like nothing I’ve had before. It’s halal, too! Customer service is always 10/10.
Place is closed. Went there yesterday 7/13/23 message on door claims they are closed due to lack of employees.
Exceptional Dining Experience with a Delightful Chef at Ginger Thai
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ginger Thai, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience that left a lasting impression. The standout feature of this delightful restaurant was the friendly African American chef, whose presence added an extra layer of warmth and charm to the overall dining experience.
From the moment I entered, I was greeted with a genuine smile and a warm welcome from the chef. His polite demeanor and infectious energy immediately set the tone for a memorable evening. Not only did he possess remarkable culinary skills, but he also had an incredible ability to make people laugh and create a positive ambiance in the restaurant.
The food prepared by the chef was nothing short of outstanding. I had the pleasure of trying the Pad Panang and Pad Thai, both of which were exquisite. The flavors were well-balanced, and each dish was prepared with meticulous attention to detail. The Pad Panang had a rich and creamy sauce that perfectly complemented the tender chicken, while the Pad Thai showcased a delightful medley of flavors that tantalized the taste buds.
It has been about a month since my last visit to Ginger Thai, and I find myself eagerly looking forward to returning solely because of the chef's presence. His exceptional cooking skills aside, it was his infectious laughter, good energy, and genuine hospitality that made the dining experience truly remarkable. The positive atmosphere he created was contagious and added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening.
In addition to the incredible chef, the overall service at Ginger Thai was excellent. The staff members were attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist with any requests or questions. The restaurant itself had a cozy and inviting ambiance, providing the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Ginger Thai to anyone seeking a delightful culinary journey. The friendly younger looking chef, with his amazing culinary skills (despite not looking Thai), humor, and positive energy, made my visit truly memorable. Whether you're a fan of Pad Panang, Pad Thai, or other Thai delicacies, Ginger Thai is sure to leave you craving for more. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to once again savor the delightful dishes and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere that the chef brings to this exceptional establishment.
Such good food! The crab rangoons and pad panang are my fave. It’s a very small establishment, so order online earlier than later on busy nights as they can only take so many orders. But it is so worth it!
I usually get the pad Thai, which is pretty good. My wife got the curry, which was a bit spicier than originally expected. We get the food to carry out and eat down at the amphitheatre.
So they said they closed at 8pm. We got there 7:38. They had door locked. The girl came to door and said the kitchens closes at 7:30. I think that if you post your hours you should stick to them. I am not from the area. I am traveling and I go by what your page says and door.
Bussin fr, however I would enjoy more drinks and spice levels
Great Thai food done well. Nice people.
Fresh spring roll and the sauce it came with was soooo good and fresh. Tom Kha soup was also super good just wish it came with a side of rice.
Good food that's reasonably priced. Tiny establishment that only has 10 seats (tightly squeezed). Staff was friendly. Only downside (other than the size of the establishment) is the lack of hours open.. have tried a few times to eat here before when advertised open to be closed.
Tiny place. Small menu. Good food. Friendly service
Really good food but people don’t want to work hard enough clearly as the restaurant is barely ever open!
I lived in Thailand over 2 years. I have eaten at countless Thai places back in the States and I can genuinely say this is one of the best!!! Quite authentic too. The panang curry is AMAZING!
Really delicious food, with very kind owners! Would 100% go back. (We got the drunken noodles and the pad see u and both were phenomenal, highly recommend!)
Yum! Friendly fast & yummy! Chicken pad-tai was awesome. Would definitely come back again.
Came from an hour away made it 45 min in before close and was told they weren't serving anyone but online orders because they were out of stuff... Wow they could have at least closed the store or maybe even told me when I called ahead to make sure they were actually open. Shame
First of all let me start by saying this is a gem in Iowa.
Want ethnic food with homecooked feel in a restaurant? You're at the right place.
Not only the food feels homecooked but the people/ family running this business will make you feel right at home. Halal too. Yes, you read that right, halal thai food in Iowa.
The food is amazing, mouthwatering, perfectly cooked and seasoned.
We had beef panang curry and chicken thai fried rice, both were amazing. I will go again whenever I visit this town. 100/100
This is a family owned local business.
I used to love ginger thai back in 2019, I went all the time. I was so excited to have it again after it reopened and I’ve never been more disappointed by a restaurant. The food was awful, my favorite menu options were removed, and the cashier was incredibly rude. My almost twenty dollar curry was so disgusting I couldn’t eat any of it, and the curry I got for my friend was just as disappointing. You couldn’t pay me to eat here again.
My new favorite plate. Home cooking Thai style!
Always consistently amazing 😎 They have worked out their hours and really I feel bad for complaining about it last year as I know times were tough . I just love their food so much, I had a fit when they were closed ;-) Which lends to why you must go there , it's an experience and we are so lucky to have them in our town, my family and friends concur! Yep they are a little pricey, BUT for good reason.. QUALITY and a one of a kind food experience which I think qualifies as ART.
Authentic and delicious
Aroy maak maak.
Not only is food fantastic, but service is also amazing. I really like the Yellow Curry. I had an issue with my credit card not being refunded after a cancelled order and they handled it extremely professionally and were so polite! This place is great give it a shot.
I love the food but it's nearly impossible to get it. I tried to order at 6:15pm on a Friday. They wouldn't make it despite being open til 7pm. This has happened several times pre-pandemic and during. Really discouraging to try to order anything from this place.
A favorite local spot!
AMAZING food! My favorite restaurant in CF!
The food is amazing and worth the wait! Ginger Thai is popular, so order early before they run out for the night!
Delicious curries that make you feel full but not sluggish. Love their healthy to-go options, and especially their spring rolls!
I love this place! The tofu yellow curry is my favorite. The food is always fast and fresh, it's a good idea to order ahead.
I usually love ginger Thai, but the portions they give you for takeout are ridiculous. I paid $22 for two SMALL bowls, one of soup, one of curry and a box of plain white rice. They definitely change how much you get when you order through that. Not worth the amount you pay for how much you get.
Amazing food and a great price
Yummy food, great price, quick preparation, friendly service, take out. No eat in right now
Bro this place is like the best restaurant in Cedar Falls. No Joke.
Finally I can eat some good food.
Amazing spot . Family ran , amazingly nice people here. Made us feel welcome . Cant say how rare it is to find authentic cuisine. It's a hole in the wall and small in size but packed a heavy punch .... highly recommend .... I will be back. I did the pad thai with no nuts, chicken and tofu... I will recommend to any one
The place is small but full of character. The people here are some of the nicest you'll ever meet. Now the food, OMG, so good. I had the Massaman Curry with chicken and beef and added cashews, with a level two heat. It was simply perfect... I travel and have had Massaman Curry all over the Midwest, one of the best, easily in the top 3. Thank you for such a great dinner.
Very disorganized in kitchen. I got here with two deliveries to go and other people came after me and left before me. It's ridiculous they need to get more organized in the kitchen.
I love this place so much, very delicious!!!
Authentic little Thai restaurant with cute modern decor.
Incredible! Don't skip this place
Wonderful service and delicious food!
I love this place and I love the people that work here! They make the best food. Especially the crepe cake, you have to try it, it's a must.
Ginger Thai is a cute little place to eat genuine thai food. Although it does get busy sometimes so you should give them a call ahead of time. Its run by a small family, you can see that they work very hard. I’ve had a problem with an order in the past but they were able to help me with it when i gave them a call.
p.s. The homemade chili oil is the bomb😍
I have never been to a Thai place that charges you for extra spice. On top of that, I paid for extra spice and got no extra spice. The Thai is just kind of bland. Crab ragoons were doughy and expensive. Wish we had more places like My Thai that used to be downtown Waterloo.
Great atmosphere. Superb food!! I love their pad Thai with deep fried tofu and peanut sauce. I love I can specify my heat level. Soups are so tasty. Enjoy everything about this place.
Simple food, very spicy, loved it!
Only Thai food in the area, but good nonetheless. Their curries are all great. Love their Thai iced tea. Miss the roti bread!
This is a great small Thai restaurant. They have only 7 tables (2-4 top). There is plenty of parking nearby (metered so bring some change). There is a beautiful mural on the wall that gives the space character. The menu looks to be under editing. Items were scratched out by hand. The appetizer I had was great and a good portion to be shared by 2 people (fried tofu). My meal was also excellent and had robust flavor with a touch of heat (panang curry with chicken). The chicken meat is white breast meat. Be prepared for a wait as the kitchen makes each order as it comes in. Also pay attention to the hours since they are not open all day. I gave them 4 stars since they ran out of Thai iced coffee at 6pm on a Saturday night.
It is a very small place almost like a cafe, fits about 15 people max. The food quality is not impressive at all, the sweet and sour beef that I had was probably the worst that I have ever tried anywhere. There was only a few little strips of beef in there and they were deep fried. So not picture worthy. Maybe this is the best you can get in the area considering ...
Delicious and very well priced! Has a little something for everyone!
Excellent!
Amazing food and services
the food was great & the price is reasonable
I want to like this place, I really do. But jesus. Their hours are strange to begin with, and they often close early, sending customers away. That is, IF they are open at all. At least three times I've tried to go, they were randomly closed. The food is pretty good, but the last couple times, we've also had to wait an excessive amount of time to get our food.
I would give it less stars if I could. It's so small. We walk in and wander over to the counter to look for some assistance. The girl behind the counter looks at us blankly and says, what? We say, this is our first time, we'd like to eat here. She shoves some menus at us, I ask if we order here or at the table, she responds, yeah. So we look it over as another employee comes up and politely offers us a table and she'll come and take care of us. First girl comes to the table, I ask about a dish on the menu and she responds, I don't know, I don't eat eggs. Um, OK. Then I ask about another dish, she doesn't know what the flavor is but she can bring me a picture. Then she says they're out of rice, at 6pm, the beginning of dinner service. Finally, my dining companion asks about the fish, what kind? She's says, fish. Oh good, indiscriminate creature from the ocean is my favorite. We couldn't risk what would actually come out on our plates. We left. Restaurant management, shame on you for sending your staff so ill prepared to run your restaurant. Two thumbs down.
The food and service here is amazing, me and my fiancee only visit the cedar falls/waterloo area once a month and we always make sure to go at least once while it town, it is my favorite reataurant!!!
This place is really cute and fun. The food is tasty. We have always enjoyed what we’ve ordered. Our favorite is hands-down the Pad Panang. Yum! Love that someone is doing Thai food in the WL/CF area. Wish there were more places like this in the area!
Not as good as it used to be. Small portions for the price. Limited menu. One item not as described. Would rate it a 2.5.
Delicious!
My pad thai was delicious and service was kind. Seating is limited so may want to consider ordering ahead with a food app (they're on CV Food Runner) to avoid a wait if you have somewhere to be.
Yummy spring rolls
So many vegan options and definitely some of the best Thai food I've ever had. It's very small in there with limited seating so either go early or be prepared to wait.
Always great food in a tiny but cute place. Might be better for take out due to size but word is they are moving to a larger place soon
The last two times we ordered here, our order took so very long. We decided to give it another try because we liked it in the past. Today we ordered the Pad Thai and it was clumpy and had bad flavor. It look over an hour to get our food. We won’t be back.
Ordered a crab Rangoon appetizer and was disappointed to know I only got 2 Rangoons with the purchase. Food was subpar.
One of my 1st choices when I want to eat plant-based.
Food came out quick and hot and tasted so good! Friendly staff and cute environment. Decent prices, too!
Fantastic curry and great prices
First time here, had the drunken noodles with shrimp. It was so good, so much! All for $10. Perfect for a quiet date lunch. Service was fantastic!
I rarely leave reviews but this was by far the worst Thai food we've ever had. I'm sorry to say but the pad thai was extremely greasy and clumped together and the chicken chewy and sparse. Maybe this was a fluke and usually they have better food since the reviews are good. This was the opposite of fresh. picked up our food 8 minutes after it was ordered, so it the poor quality cannot be attributed to picking it up late.
Love the food! VERY SMALL, so plan accordingly while out. Food is great, though.
Small place but the food is amazing.
I saw it had 4.6 & thought sweet. Some good Thai for dinner! Wrong! I ordered the drunken noodles & tom yum soup. I thought the portions were small for the price compared to other Thai restaurants I’ve eaten at. Well the shrimp tom yum soup is missing the 3 main ingredients (lemongrass, galangal, & kaffir lime leaves). It barely taste anything like tom yum. As far as the drunken noodles they were nothing like I’ve ever had. I’ve never had it with the smaller noodles. They are usually the wider noodles & these were not very good tasting. They were not fresh that’s for sure. The actual contents were probably 1/4 of shredded carrots & between the 2 dishes it was just over $19 & I got a total of 8 smaller sized shrimp. Service was fast even though every seat was full. Very disappointed in lack of authenticity, quantity & overall taste of both dishes. Service was the only good thing about this experience.
Cheap, fast, and very tasty
Even excepting the tiny tiny dining room - seats for 16 (22 counting sidewalk tables) - the dining experience itself is sublime...cuisine unsurpassed anywhere, Ginger Thai truly has it going on... if you rated this less than 5 stars...WTH!!???
Great little place! Awesome atmosphere! The food was very good.
Awesome service, really good food! The ginger flavour popped! And the Thai coffee was some of the better I've had
Favorite place ever. Chicken padpanang
So good! Loved the curry fried rice they made for me.
Curry was spot on. Fried rice was tasteless and they were out of shrimp but didn’t tell me till I️ came in for take out. They could have called me back but didn’t.
Ginger Thai should be on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. Small place but their food is excellent! Love the coconut curry with fish, can not go wrong!
Great food! Been looking for an Asian restaurant in the area for a while, and nowhere served anything spicy! They helped me find a spice level above anything at other bland Asian restaurants, without being so hot it wasn't palatable! Delicious food, just the right price, helpful servers, LOCAL!
If you put an order in online plan to wait well beyond the specified time its supposed to be ready. Put an order in to be ready at 720. Its 745 and I am still waiting.
At 7:53 my order was finally ready when I expressed to the staff that I was unhappy about the wait because I specified the time I would be picking it up on my online order not only was I not even apologized to I wasn't even acknowledged that I said anything
Very nice place, service, made me an off menu dish that I wanted. Can't beat that!😘
